Celebrity Cruises Classic Beverage Package Vs Premium

It used to be that a cruise with Celebrity always included a drinks package – and it was just up to you whether you chose the Classic one that was included, or you upgraded to Premium.

But that’s changed now – you’ve got the option of a cruise-only fare as well, which may be better suited to you if you don’t drink a lot during your holiday.

celebrity cruises couple with drinks

To help you decide whether you want to pick the cruise-only fare, the Celebrity Classic Beverage package or the Premium one, I’ve put together this guide and worked out what’s included, so you can see which fits you best.

There is also a specialist non-alcoholic drinks package too, so I’ll cover that in case it’s more suitable.

The good news is that, while there are technically nine (!) different drinks package options, it’s still pretty easy to understand the options available.

Drinks aren’t always included with Celebrity anymore

Celebrity Cruises offers a cruise-only fare, so if you choose this, then your drinks aren’t included – except for the small number of non-alcoholic drinks that are always free in the buffet restaurant.

With Celebrity, it used to be the case that drinks were always included for a while – so if you still see anything that says that every cruise includes a drinks package, that’s just slightly out of date.

Read more: Are Celebrity Cruises All Inclusive?

There are some drinks that are always free, though

If you don’t choose a drinks package for your Celebrity cruise, then you can still enjoy water, tea, coffee, lemonade, juice, fruit punch and still water in the buffet restaurant, main dining room and speciality restaurants.

All other drinks have a charge – unless you choose one of the drinks packages.

Classic Vs Premium – the differences explained

Now that you can choose whether or not you want a drinks package, it’s even more important that you compare the two. And the difference comes down to the value of drinks included – if you choose the Premium package, you enjoy a wider selection of drinks that cost more.

Classic Drink Package

The Celebrity Cruises Classic Drinks Package includes all drinks valued at up to $10 each ($12 for sailings from the UK and Australia). If you order a drink that costs more than that, you’ll pay the difference in price. The Classic Drinks Package also entitles guests to a 15% discount on all wines by the bottle.

Premium Drink Package

If you upgrade to Celebrity Cruises’ Premium Drinks Package, you’ll be able to enjoy all drinks up to the value of $17 each. You’ll also get a 20% discount on bottles of wine.

Unless you’re a serious wine connoisseur, the wine discount is neither here nor there as you’ll likely be ordering wine by the glass rather than the bottle so you won’t have to pay anything at all.

Examples of what you get with each package…

The Classic Drinks Package includes all kinds of branded drinks, but the choice of brands is smaller than the Premium package.

For example, if you like gin, the Classic package gives you the option of Beefeater, Gordon’s and Bombay Dry. However, the Premium package includes seven more gin brands, such as Hendrick’s and Tanqueray.

With most Premium drinks, there’s a Classic package equivalent. So, if you usually order a Peroni, you could save money by switching to Moretti on the Classic package. However, there are some unique drinks, like Guinness, which are only available on the Celebrity Premium Beverage package.

Here’s a full list!

If you like to enjoy a particular drink most days, then take a look at this full list to find out which package you need…

You don’t get many cocktails with this package

There are a small selection of cocktails included in the Classic Drinks Package, although most cost more than $10 so would need you to pay a little extra. All of the zero-alcohol cocktails cost less than $10 so are included.

Bar prices can change, but as a guide, a Bloody Mary costs $10 and a Screwdriver costs $11.

Premium price

The Premium Drinks Package with Celebrity Cruises starts from $109 per person, per day.

Different cruise fares explained

Things can get a little confusing if you’re not familiar with Celebrity Cruises’ fares, but it’s simple enough once you understand the various options.

If you choose a cruise-only fare, you don’t get a drinks package included. If you then want one, that’s when you’d pay either from $89 per day for a Classic package, or from $109 per day for a Premium one.

You have to pay for the entire cruise – you can’t pick and choose which days you pay for!

If you book an All Included fare (which also includes WiFi), you get the Classic package included. You can upgrade to Premium if you want – you just need to pay the extra to upgrade. You can do this once you’re on the ship.

If you book a suite in The Retreat, then you get the Premium package included already. Easy.

Martini

So, is the Premium upgrade worth it?

Remember, if you have a Classic Package, you can still order Premium drinks, you’ll just have to pay the difference in cost.

  • The Classic Package includes drinks worth up to $10
  • The Premium Package includes drinks worth up to $17

So, if you order a drink that costs $11, the first $10 will be included, and you will only be charged $1.

The most you could pay for a Premium drink if you have the Classic Package is $7.

For the majority of people, an upgrade from Celebrity Cruises’ Classic Package to the Premium Package isn’t worth it because there are so many drinks included in the Classic Package.

I would suggest only upgrading the Premium Package if you are very particular about which brands of drinks you will have, you insist on only drinking cocktails, or if you need something special like gluten-free beer.

The Non-Alcoholic Drink Package

Not someone who likes an alcoholic drink? Then don’t worry, you don’t have to pay the higher prices for an all-inclusive drinks package when it won’t be good value for you.

There used to be five (!) non-alcoholic drinks packages you could choose from, but things have been simplified and there is just one non-alcoholic option.

This drinks package includes a wide range of drinks such as selected bottled water, premium coffees and teas, soda, frozen smoothies, zero-proof cocktails and fresh-squeezed juices. It starts from $30 per person, per day.

Wine By The Bottle packages

If you are someone who prefers to drink wine by the bottle rather than the glass, then there are technically six packages available that may suit you – but in two main variants. Choose one of these and you’ll be able to get a bottle of wine delivered to you by the sommelier anywhere on the ship, including your stateroom.

Premium Wines By The Bottle package

The Premium Wines By The Bottle package includes a mix of three-, five-, or seven-bottle selections. The package starts from $169 and includes some exciting new flavours which your sommelier will be able to talk you through.

Classic Wines By The Bottle package

This package starts from $109 and also includes a mix of three-, five- and seven-bottle selections. It tends to offer more classic wines, such as Australian Chardonnay and US West Coast Cabernet Sauvignon.

Drink prices

Before you go ahead and decide on a package, it would be wise to know how much the drinks cost. This can help you to figure out whether or not the cost of a drinks package is worth it.

The drink prices on a Celebrity cruise will vary, but expect to pay around $7 for most bottled beers ($10 for premium ones), $9 for glasses of wine ($14 for premium wines), up to $20 for premium cocktails, and $16 for drinks from the Martini bar.

Soft drink prices vary, but expect to pay up to $5 for a soft drink in most bars, as a rough guide.

To make things easy, I can do all of the maths for you. Just leave your email and I’ll send you my drink package calculator that will show you exactly how much you can expect to spend on drinks if you don’t buy a drink package…

No 15-drink limits to worry about here…

There are no limits on the number of drinks you can order if you have a drinks package, provided you either stick to those included in your package or pay the difference. Obviously, you may be refused service if the bar staff think you have had too many, and you’re acting inappropriately!

couple at Deck 5 Eden Bar

To conclude

Let’s quickly recap your package options:

  • Classic Drinks Package
  • Premium Drinks Package
  • Non-Alcoholic Drinks Package
  • Premium Wines By The Bottle – 7 Bottles
  • Premium Wines By The Bottle – 5 Bottles
  • Premium Wines By The Bottle – 3 Bottles
  • Classic Wines By The Bottle – 7 Bottles
  • Classic Wines By The Bottle – 5 Bottles
  • Classic Wines By The Bottle – 3 Bottles

The Classic Drinks package used to be included as standard with all new Celebrity Cruises bookings. It includes many different drinks, worth up to $10 each.

But now that it isn’t, you need to think a little more about which of the Celebrity Cruise drink packages is the right one for you, and offers you the best value.

For most people, the Classic Drinks Package is sufficient, and then it’s worth considering an all-included fare. Check the price, since it might not be much different from booking the drinks package separately.

But you may decide that a Celebrity drink package isn’t worth it either – so think about how much you plan to order. Going cruise-only might be better.

Everything You Need To Know

Most cruise lines have some form of loyalty program, designed to encourage you to rebook with the same cruise line again and again.

Celebrity Cruises also has a second loyalty scheme, specifically for the casino – the Blue Chip Club.

A vibrant casino floor filled with a variety of colorful slot machines, all unoccupied, in a well-lit gaming area. The scene captures the essence of modern gambling with bright displays and the allure of potential jackpots.

The Blue Chip Club works differently from Celebrity’s Captain’s Club, with different ways of earning points and a lot of (potentially confusing) terms you need to be aware of.

So in this guide, I’ll explain everything you need to know about the Blue Chip Club and what you get in each tier.

Celebrity Blue Chip Club explained

The Celebrity Cruises Blue Chip Club is a rewards program for guests who play in the casino. It is designed to encourage guests to play, offering them several rewards as they progress through the tiers, including benefits for the casino and for the cruise in general.

The only way to earn points for the Blue Chip Club is to spend at the casino onboard your ship, and the more you spend, the higher up the rankings you can climb.

How to join Celebrity Cruises’ Blue Chip Club

An upscale casino on a Celebrity Cruises ship featuring gaming tables and slot machines, with a contemporary design that includes stylish overhead lighting and luxurious decor. The environment conveys a high-end gaming experience with attention to design and comfort.

All guests who scan their SeaPass when playing games at the casino are automatically signed up for the Blue Chip Club. You don’t need to actively sign up to be enrolled. Any time you use your SeaPass you will accumulate points to your Blue Chip Club account.

Once you’ve completed a cruise and earned at least one point in the Blue Chip Club, your SeaPass on future cruises will display your tier level, immediately after your Captain’s Club membership tier.

To be absolutely clear, the Captain’s Club and Blue Chip Club are not linked. They’re completely separate and you’ll have different membership numbers for each.

The only time you’ll see your tiers together is when printed on your SeaPass.

Blue Chip Club Levels

There are six membership tiers in the Celebrity Cruises Blue Chip Club. The most basic is Pearl, followed by Onyx, Amethyst, Sapphire, Sapphire Plus, and then Ruby.

Each tier comes with different benefits to use on the cruise and in the casino.

Important – Celebrity updated their benefits in July 2024. This means that, from August 2025, there’ll be new benefits. Also the way you earn points was changed, along with the tier point brackets. While it may look great that you now only need 150,000 points to reach Ruby instead of 1 million, it now costs more to earn 1 point).

These are the benefits for anyone who’s already earned points, that they can enjoy through to July 2025:

Blue Chip Club Levels Table

And here’s a summary of the main benefits from August 2025 onwards:

Pearl

Points required – 1

Pearl is the basic membership tier for the Blue Chip Club. When you are a Pearl member, you’ll get:

  • The chance to use Redeemable Points for free casino play
  • Invitations to casino-only events
  • Complimentary drinks in the casino

Onyx

Points required 500 (was 2,500 previously)

Onyx is the second tier for the Blue Chip Club. As an Onyx member, you get the same perks as a Pearl member, along with:

  • Waived credit card cash advance fees – withdraw cash using your credit card for use in the casino without the additional fees

Amethyst

Points Required – 5,000 (was 25,000 previously)

Once you reach Amethyst level in the Blue Chip Club, you start to unlock a much longer list of perks. You’ll get everything in the Onyx level, along with:

  • $200 credit for Effy Boutique
  • 10% off at the spa
  • 30% off Premium WiFi
  • 1 digital photo download
  • The chance to enjoy an Annual Cruise Benefit (free cruise in an Inside cabin)

The tier’s rewards package has been downgraded – you used to get:

  • Priority embarkation for your cruise
  • 60 minutes of free internet access per cruise
  • An unlimited digital photo package for your cruise
A family enjoying a relaxed time on a Celebrity Cruises ship, with a smiling woman showing a tablet to a young boy while a teenager uses a tablet on the side. They are surrounded by a luxurious setting with snacks and drinks on the table, indicating a leisurely day on the water.

Sapphire

Points Required – 15,000 (was 100,000 previously)

As you get to the Sapphire level, your benefits improve significantly once again. You’ll get everything in Amethyst, as well as:

  • Upgraded Effy Boutique credit of $250 (total)
  • One free internet package for your cruise (instead of the 30% off – you don’t get both)
  • 15% off spa treatments
  • 2 digital photo downloads
  • Upgrade to Veranda for your Annual Cruise Benefit
  • Exclusive cruise rates for friends and family (in additional staterooms)

Sapphire Plus

Points Required – 75,000 (was 500,000 previously)

Sapphire Plus doesn’t introduce any new perks upon reaching this tier, but a couple do get upgraded:

  • $350 Effy Boutique credit
  • Upgrade to Concierge Class for your Annual Cruise Benefit

Ruby

Points Required – 150,000 (was 1,000,000 previously)

Ruby is the top tier of the Blue Chip Club. It includes everything in the earlier tiers, but with a large number of additional perks, boosted significantly since July 2024’s update to the programme.

  • $550 Effy Boutique credit
  • 20% off spa treatments
  • 3 digital photo downloads
  • Free Premium WiFi for 4 devices
  • Onboard credit to spend – $50 (3-4 night cruises), $75 (5-6 night cruises), $100 (7+ night cruises)
  • Unlimited complimentary room service
  • Welcome lunch in the Main Dining Room
  • Reserved theatre seating
  • Priority embarkation
  • Priority luggage delivery
  • Priority tender
  • Express luggage service on debarkation day
  • Upgrade to Aqua Class for your Annual Cruise Benefit

How Tier Points work

To climb the rankings of the Blue Chip Club, you need to earn Tier Points.

However, you have to do so within an earnings period – once you reach the end of a period, your points are wiped out. Though, you’ll remain at the tier you were at previously, provided you have at least gambled in the casino once.

You earn Tier Points in the following ways:

  • $5 wagered on slots = 1 Tier Point
  • $10 wagered on video poker = 1 Tier Points

Table game rewards vary by game and format, and by how long you play.

It’s all about how much you wager, not how much you lose. If you were the luckiest person in the casino, you could wager the same $5 on slot machines, constantly winning it back, and you’d be racking up the Tier Points without losing any money.

In reality, cruise ship casino slots tend to have a fixed payout somewhere around 90%, though it can vary. So you’re pretty much guaranteed to lose out if you continue playing.

With video poker it’s similar, and with table games, it all comes down to your luck and knowledge of the game.

Here’s a guide to how much you must wager to reach each tier for slots or video poker. You can’t predict it with table games anymore, unfortunately. You have to wager this within an earning period, so you usually have a maximum of 12-18 months.

Tier Slots Video poker
Pearl $5 $10
Onyx $2,500 $5,000
Amethyst $25,000 $50,000
Sapphire $75,000 $150,000
Sapphire Plus $375,000 $750,000
Ruby $750,000 $1,500,000
A Celebrity casino floor elegantly designed with red and white gaming tables in the foreground and a selection of slot machines in the background. The ambient lighting and vibrant carpet pattern create an inviting atmosphere for gaming enthusiasts.

Moving between tiers

It’s a little confusing if you’re used to the way the Captain’s Club works, so I’ll work through an example.

Earnings periods typically last for 12-18 months but can be extended. The most recently announced period was for 1st August 2024 until 31st July 2025.

If you have never cruised with Celebrity before, you will become a member at the Pearl level after you earn your first point.

If you then earn 2,500 points before July 2025, you’ll move up to Onyx immediately, and earn those benefits.

However, if you earn only 2,499 points, then you will remain at Pearl, and from August 2025 you’ll have to earn another 2,500 points to reach Onyx.

Now, let’s say you’re in Onyx already before the earning period begins.

If you earn between 1 point and 24,999 points within that earning period, you’re still classed as an active player, and you’ll remain at Onyx level once the earnings period ends.

However, if you don’t gamble on a Celebrity cruise at all in that 12-month window, you’ll be demoted to Pearl.

You can only be demoted by one tier at a time. So if you were Ruby and you took an 12-month break from cruising, you wouldn’t fall all the way to Pearl – just back to Sapphire Plus.

A Celebrity cruises casino's elegant gaming floor with poker tables ready for players, luxurious chairs awaiting guests, and slot machines in the distance, all under soft and sophisticated lighting. The opulent design elements create a welcoming atmosphere for patrons.

How Redeemable Points work

Redeemable Points are separate from Tier Points in the Blue Chip Club, but they are earned in a similar way. Redeemable Points are points that you can earn and then ‘spend’ on a cruise to claim rewards.

You earn Redeemable Points slower than you would Tier Points, and you don’t earn them for playing table games. Also these aren’t transferable across cruises.

The values are:

  • $5 wagered on slots = 1 Redeemable Point
  • $10 wagered on video poker = 2 Redeemable Points

You can trade Redeemable Points for various goods and services mainly in the casino, including free slot plays or promotional chips for table play. You can redeem 50 points for $1 of free play, though there’s a minimum redemption of $5.

So once you’ve wagered $1,250 on slots, you’ll have earned 250 Redeemable Points, which you can then trade in for a free $5 slot machine credit.

It might not sound like much – a free $5 in exchange for having wagered $1,250 – but it’s free.

Celebrity Millenium cruise ship

How to get a free cruise with Casino Points

While you can earn free cruises with the Blue Chip Club, it’s not something you can redeem with a set number of points.

Instead, once you reach Amtheyst level, you be eligible for an Annual Cruise Benefit, which can include either discounted fares or the offer of free cruises.

Celebrity Cruises will contact you, typically via mail or email, and offer you a selection of options. Bear in mind that you’ll still have to pay port fees and taxes even on a free cruise.

The offers you’re given will be based on how much you play in the casino, so they’re loosely tied to your points, but basically, the more you play, the more likely Celebrity Cruises will be to offer you a free cruise.

A refined casino interior with a bar in the background, gaming tables in the center, and comfortable blue chairs around, illuminated by a grand chandelier. The scene is set for an evening of sophisticated gaming and socializing.

How To Contact the Blue Chip Club on Celebrity Cruises

If you need to contact the Blue Chip Club on Celebrity Cruises, you can email [email protected].

If you live in the US or you don’t mind dialling internationally, you can also call +1 866-461-7170 from Monday to Friday, 9 am to 7 pm EST.

The cruise line’s website does say that they are in the process of developing a web portal to let guests check their tier, but they expect it to be live “by the end of 2018”. So it’s a little overdue to say the least…

Can you use Blue Chip Club benefits in Royal Caribbean’s Casino Royale?

Currently, you can’t use any Blue Chip Club benefits in the casino on Royal Caribbean ships, though the cruise lines have said that they are open to exploring this in future. Currently, the benefits in Royal Caribbean’s casinos and Celebrity Cruises’ casinos remain separate.

Final word

I’ll be honest, Celebrity’s information around the Blue Chip Club is a little sparse, and the information they do have can be a little dated.

I even spoke to the cruise line to clarify a couple of points in this post and their response included phrases like “I believe” and “it seems”, so I’m not sure the customer service team were 100% confident in the answers!

Still, this guide should clear it up for you, and so if you do want to use the casino when you’re on a Celebrity cruise, you now know that extra perks and benefits you can earn, and how to do so.

Celebrity Cruises Announces Sale Of Two Ships With Rebooking Options For Existing Bookings

Celebrity Cruises has announced the sale of two of its ships, leading to the cancellation of all 2025 voyages scheduled on these vessels.

Celebrity Xploration

The cruise line is to sell two of its Galapagos Expedition Series ships, Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration. Lindblad Expeditions has agreed to buy them, with the transaction due to complete in January 2025.

The cruise line is not closing down its Expedition arm, with Celebrity Flora still continuing to sale for the cruise line.

On the heels of this news, Celebrity Cruises has announced options for guests who are booked on either of the sold ships for a 2025 sailing.

The first option is for guests to rebook a cruise on the ships for a sailing departing before the end of 2024. Guests will have their booking transferred to an equivalent or better stateroom category, with their fare protected.

If the new fare is lower, the guest will be asked to pay the lower rate. Any guests who’ve also booked airfare through the cruise line will have their flight bookings automatically moved, and guests can receive up to $400 towards non-refundable charges for rental cars, trains or parking.

The second option allows guests to move their booking onto a 2025 cruise onboard Celebrity Flora. Again, their fare will be protected, but holiday sailings are excluded from this option – guests wishing to move to a holiday cruise will have to pay the higher fare.

Again, flights booked through Celebrity will automatically be transferred and guests can request up to $400 towards non-refundable travel arrangements.

While the cruise line has not detailed any specific alternatives to these two options, standard cancellation options will apply for any guests who just prefer to cancel their cruise.

Once Celebrity Xploration and Celebrity Xpedition are transferred to Lindblad, they’ll be renovated and renamed. Bookings are expected to open for the two ships during summer 2024.

Celebrity Cruise Ships Ranked From Best To Worst

Celebrity Cruises is well known for offering a premium cruising experience – ships are stylish and luxurious, and beautifully modern, while the dining venues and entertainment are top-notch.

Celebrity Summit

But there is also the Celebrity Expedition Series – ships which are specifically designed to explore the less accessible regions of the world, primarily the Galapagos Islands, with more of a focus on the destination.

So – when planning a Celebrity cruise, which ship is the best depending on which type of holiday you want? In this guide, I’ve ranked them all to make deciding on your ship easier.

How I gathered the data

While I wish I could say that I’ve sailed on every Celebrity ship, I haven’t (yet!). So for me to rank all of the Celebrity Cruises ships in the fleet based on my own opinion would be a little bit unfair, wouldn’t it?

And I could just do it based on expert reviews, but that’s also subjective. Other cruise experts might have had an outlier experience where a ship was better or worse than normal.

So to make this guide as fair as possible, I’ve based it on thousands of reviews from past guests, and the average scores of those reviews. I’ve used three of the biggest cruise review sites in the world – Cruise Critic, Cruiseline.com and TripAdvisor.

Cruise mummy with Celebrity APEX cruise

Something that is important to clarify – “worst” doesn’t necessarily mean bad, just that the ship has scored less than the others in the fleet.

And that’s especially true with Celebrity Cruises. The worst ships in the fleet have an average review score of 3.87 out of 5, which is pretty darn high!

I’d also like to point out that this Celebrity Cruises guide has the ship with the best average score of any ship I’ve written about in a “best to worst” guide. So you know it’s a goodun…

The best Celebrity cruise ship is…

According to past guest reviews, the best Celebrity Cruises ship is Celebrity Xploration, one of the Celebrity Expedition ships. She first launched in 2017 and has a guest capacity of just 16, which may skew results. The best non-Exploration ship is Celebrity Equinox.

All Celebrity ships ranked by reviews

Here’s a look at all of the Celebrity Cruises ships in order.

1. Celebrity Xploration

Celebrity Xploration

I have to admit I was pretty surprised to see Celebrity Xploration top the scores, especially with an incredible average review score of 4.93 out of 5 (5 out of 5 on Cruise Critic and TripAdvisor, a perfect score).

But really that is probably helped by the low capacity of the ship – she takes just 16 guests onboard, so there are much fewer chances for random things to go wrong and cause the occasional bad review.

However, I’m not taking anything away – for all those guests to consistently give her perfect marks means that she is clearly an incredible ship. She has a buffet and dining room, a comfortable lounge and a spacious sun deck with a large Jacuzzi, so you can really enjoy the sumptuous experience of Celebrity even on this tiny vessel.

Celebrity Xploration - Sun deck with jacuzzi

Add in the excitement of exploring the Galapagos Islands and getting so close to nature and it’s no wonder Celebrity Xploration is so popular.

The second most popular ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet is also the newest of the Expedition-class ships. The Expedition Class aren’t really sisters as the three ships are distinct, with Celebrity Flora being the largest of the three, although her maximum capacity is still just 100 guests.

Considered a super-yacht, she has some stunning accommodation options including six types of suite, a beautiful Discovery Lounge, and an Observatory where you can enjoy incredible views and an expansive library. She also has a choice of two restaurants, and glamping pods where you can relax on cosy beds and soak up the sunrise and sunset.

Discovery Lounge - Flora

Celebrity Flora is a better choice if you want more of an atmosphere on the ship. With 100 guests there are more people to meet, and at the same time fewer guarantees that you’re spending all your time with the same faces. She’s also stunning – one of the best examples of an expedition ship that offers an amazing onboard experience.

3. Celebrity Xpedition

Celebrity Xpedition - Galapagos

Rounding out the top 3 is Celebrity Xpedition, the original Expedition ship for the Celebrity Cruises fleet. First launching in 2001, she originally had a capacity of 100 guests but in 2019 this was reduced to 48, making her another small ship that’s perfect for the Galapagos Islands.

She’s a little older, first launching in 2001, although her tasteful decor means that she still offers an upmarket cruising experience, just with a look that balances classic wood panelling and patterned carpets with more contemporary touches.

She’s popular as a good balance between Celebrity Xploration and Celebrity Flora – small and peaceful, but with enough people onboard to keep meal times and excursions interesting. And similar to the other ships, her Galapagos itineraries are extremely popular with wildlife-loving guests.

4. Celebrity Ascent

The first of the main ocean-sailing fleet in this list is Celebrity Ascent, also the newest ship in the Celebrity fleet.

It’s a little surprising that she’s the only Edge-class ship this high up in the list. Her decor is absolutely stunning, she has loads of great dining options, and there are some fantastic itineraries to choose from.

5. Celebrity Equinox

Celebrity Equinox

For a cruise line that prides itself on offering incredible modern design, it’s a little surprising to see Celebrity Equinox – a ship which launched in 2009 – at the top of the pile when it comes to the main ocean cruise ship side of the fleet.

She’s popular because of her relaxing atmosphere, and the careful attention paid to updating the ship – her last refurbishment was in 2019.

She’s popular with a wide range of travellers too, including families – although because the kids’ clubs are tucked away on Deck 15, it’s never a ship that feels too hectic for couples or solo passengers.

Celebrity Equinox deck

Unfortunately some of the guest reviews that are negative focus on bad experiences with food quality, and some uninspiring entertainment. Overall though she is a very popular ship and most people report having an amazing time on-board.

6. Celebrity Reflection

celebrity Reflection

Celebrity Reflection was the last of the Solstice-class ships to launch in 2012, taking the existing design and enhancing it slightly to become, at the time, the largest ship in the fleet, and she remains only one of two ships sailing for Celebrity with a passenger capacity exceeding 3,000 (only just).

Positive reviews comment mostly on the spacious nature of the ship and the many places she has where guests can just unwind and soak in the atmosphere. Guests generally love the service onboard too, praising the crew for doing anything in their power to make each cruise feel special.

Celebrity Reflection - dining service

However, there are some themes with criticisms, including again the food – it seems that some guests don’t get the best experience.

I think, reading reviews, Celebrity sets such high standards that when they miss them it can disappoint guests even if the food is ‘fine’, which is a shame in how it reflects (pun intended) on the ship overall.

7. Celebrity Apex

Cruise mummy with celebrity APEX

Celebrity Apex is the second of the Edge-class ships to appear on this list, and for it to be as low as sixth is a little surprising – visually she is absolutely breathtaking, she’s very spacious and she’s equipped with a host of interesting places to unwind or things to do during your cruise.

She hosts a number of innovative features, with the Magic Carpet being one of the most popular. This is a platform that moves up and down the side of the ship, serving as a ramp to shore, a bar and a restaurant. It’s a fun place to relax while you’re at sea!

Celebrity APEX - Magic carpet

Part of the reason the Edge-class ships seem to be a little lower is down to their size and their ‘newness’. There are a lot of guests onboard so the occasional bad score is to be expected, and some reviews talk about service or food quality being inconsistent, which can happen as a new crew gets used to serving more guests.

8. Celebrity Eclipse

Celebrity Eclipse launched in 2010 as the third of five Solstice-class ships. However, she seems to be the ship in most need of some TLC. A number of guests say there are elements that are tired and that look a little older, belying the contemporary atmosphere that Celebrity likes to create on its ships.

 Celebrity Eclipse

Despite this, the ship remains very popular with an average review score of 4.2 out of 5. Even though elements are showing their age, she still has an elegant atmosphere and a lot of space where guests feel they can relax.

No Solstice-class ships are packed with daytime entertainment, but there’s a great pool area and several quiet indoor spaces to unwind.

Celebrity Eclipse - Pool deck

Unlike Celebrity Reflection and Celebrity Equinox, there aren’t many bad things to say about the food either – most guests say it is excellent.

9. Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice

Celebrity Solstice is the original of the Solstice-class, having first set sail in 2008 for the cruise line. And she epitomises what makes a Celebrity cruise feel special – her public areas are wonderfully spacious and inviting and the crew are excellent – I’ve really struggled to find any review that remarks badly on how diligent and hardworking the team are onboard.

There are some criticisms of the food – similar to some of her sister ships – but more on the most recent reviews. It may be down to the price point of a Celebrity cruise and the raised expectations.

Celebrity Solstice is another where some reviews mention the tired elements of the ship – she is overdue for a renovation. If the cruise line decides to refurbish the ship she may climb higher in the list.

10. Celebrity Silhouette

Celebrity Silhouette

Rounding out the Solstice-class – before we’ve even got to the second of the flagship Edge-class ships – is Celebrity Silhouette. First launched in 2011, she did have her scheduled refurbishment in 2020 which has helped to give her a much-needed freshen up, keeping staterooms, suites and public areas looking great.

Celebrity Silhouette - stateroom

The entertainment on the ship is broadly praised, as is the service of the crew – becoming standard now for the Solstice-class ships.

Unfortunately, the recurring criticisms of the food also reappear for this ship, although with specific mention of a reduction in choice and premium options. It seems that most negative reviews are down to overall menu changes rather than the service of a specific ship.

11. Celebrity Beyond

Celebrity Beyond

Just missing out on the top 10, Celebrity Beyond does score well though, with a 4.1 out of 5 average meaning most guests still have a very positive experience.

Guests love the look of the ship and the variety of places to relax and dine onboard. She continues to offer innovative experiences, including the enhanced Retreat spaces and the fantastic evening entertainment infused with modern tech.

Celebrity Beyond sunset bar

Sadly it seems the service of the crew is currently letting down its score. This often happens with new ships as they adjust, and hopefully, the problems with long lines or slow service are resolved as the crew becomes more experienced.

12. Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Edge was the first of the Edge-class ships, seen as the next generation for the Celebrity fleet. She launched in 2018 and helped to really reinvigorate the fleet with a stunning design. She is extremely modern but tasteful, with expansive public areas where guests can unwind.

Celebrity edge - pool deck

She has a wealth of dining options too and reviews are relatively good for the service, although the change in Celebrity’s menu overall does impact some comments.

Celebrity edge - dining service

While most people say great things about Celebrity Edge, I’ve seen some reviews that say the Solstice Class just feels more ‘Celebrity’, and that Celebrity Edge is a bit more style over substance, including less spacious rooms and entertainment that’s a little more repetitive, if technically impressive.

13. Celebrity Summit

Celebrity Summit

Unsurprisingly, the oldest class of ship in the Celebrity fleet that is still sailing – the Millennium Class – takes up the final places on this list. Celebrity Summit was the penultimate ship for that class, launching in 2001, and while she is showing her age in places she is still a popular choice.

A considerable – and considerate – renovation in 2019 helped, ensuring the modern feel of Celebrity as a whole was maintained. Guests love the quieter experience onboard and the good quality food, as well as the service.

Celebrity Summit - dining

One area which could be improved is the onboard entertainment – some reviews describe it as a bit bland compared to other ships in the fleet.

14. Celebrity Millennium

Celebrity Millennium in Alaska

Celebrity Millennium is the oldest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet, having launched in (you guessed it) the year 2000. She was refurbished at the same time as Celebrity Summit though, benefiting from a refit which brought her bang up to date.

Celebrity Millennium - Stateroom

She’s more of a ship for those who enjoy destination cruising, instead of spending a lot of time being entertained onboard. Reviews speak positively about the public spaces and the service of the crew, but negative points focus more on the lack of daytime entertainment, and the repetitive nature of the evening shows.

15. Celebrity Constellation

Celebrity Constellation

Celebrity Constellation was the last of the Millennium-class ships to launch for the fleet, back in 2002, and for a good few years, she was considered the flagship of the fleet alongside Celebrity Infinity.

She remains popular with those who enjoy relaxation, with a quieter atmosphere onboard. If you like lively cruising with lots to do during sea days then this isn’t the ship for you, but if being sat by the pool before enjoying premium dining sounds perfect, Celebrity Constellation could be ideal.

Celebrity Constellation - pool deck

Unfortunately, her scheduled renovation for 2020 was cancelled, meaning her last refurb was in 2013, and it shows – there are some areas where she needs an update soon, if she is to remain with the fleet.

16. Celebrity Infinity

Celebrity Infinity

Celebrity Infinity rounds off the Millennium Class and was first launched in 2001. Like sister ship Celebrity Constellation, her planned refurb in 2020 was cancelled and so her last update was in 2013, which has led to some reviewers saying she is in serious need of some attention in places.

Despite that, the ship is popular, with a calm atmosphere and some pleasant places to unwind during the day. She is frequently described as “comfortable”, for better or worse.

If you don’t need the glitz and sleek style of the latest Celebrity ships and just want a quiet cruise with great food and service, she still has plenty to offer.

Tips on choosing the best Celebrity ship for you

It’s important to do some research when choosing a Celebrity cruise, because everyone’s different, and so certain ships will be a better fit for you.

Looking for the nicest Celebrity Cruises ship? That’ll depend on your definition of “nice”, but Celebrity Apex is one of the most popular ships in the fleet and one that is equipped with stunning facilities that have a really premium feel, including gorgeous spaces to unwind and relax during your cruise.

Celebrity Equinox is often regarded as one of the best Celebrity Cruises ships for families. Newer ships focus more on the adult crowd, despite welcoming families, while Equinox strikes a balance for the whole family and is one of the most popular ships in the entire fleet.

The best Celebrity Cruises ship for exploring the Galapagos Islands, according to past guests, is Celebrity Xploration, although both Celebrity Flora and Celebrity Xpedition are also extremely popular. Choose Celebrity Flora if you want more of a crowd – she hosts 100 guests, compared to just 16 on Celebrity Xploration.

The bottom line

So there you have it – there are some interesting conclusions we can draw from this ranking – namely that the Expedition ships are extremely popular and definitely worth trying, and that the older ships in the fleet are the least popular.

That’s not always the case with other cruise lines – sometimes newer ships lose some of the popularity that a cruise line may have held. I think with Celebrity Cruises, since their ships are purposefully built to be super-modern, that means the more contemporary ships will always score higher.

But ultimately it depends on what you want from a cruise. At least we know that all Celebrity ships are well-liked with high average scores, so you can’t really go wrong.

Celebrity Ascent

Before Celebrity Ascent, Celebrity Beyond (2022), Celebrity Apex (2021) and Celebrity Edge (2018) were the newest mainstream cruise ships in the Celebrity Cruises fleet. Two small Galapagos expedition ships, Celebrity Flora (2019) and Celebrity Xploration (2017) are also relatively new.

There’s then a five-year gap in the construction of new ships, with Celebrity Reflection being built in 2012.

Ships that have sailed on

There are several ships that Celebrity Cruises used to operate that have been sold on. Meridian was the oldest, which also sailed as Sun Cruises once sold. She sank in 1999.

Horizon was sold in 2005, and Zenith in 2007. Both ships have since been scrapped.

But there are three older ships that are still sailing on. Celebrity Galaxy, Celebrity Mercury and Celebrity Century have all have several names since leaving the Celebrity fleet, and now operate for Marella Cruises as Marella Explorer, Marella Voyager, and Marella Explorer 2 respectively.

From big to small – Celebrity ships in order of size

When it comes to comparing the size of cruise ships, the best way is to consider the Gross Tonnage. This is a measurement of the internal volume of a ship. Length, guest capacity and the number of decks that are accessible to passengers may also be considered.

The following table shows the Celebrity Cruises ships ordered from largest to smallest…

Ship Tonnage Length Guest Decks Guests Crew
Celebrity Ascent 140,600 327m 16 3,937 1,416
Celebrity Beyond 140,600 327m 16 3,937 1,416
Celebrity Edge 129,500 306m 16 2,918 1,320
Celebrity Apex 129,500 306m 16 2,910 1,319
Celebrity Reflection 126,000 319m 13 3,030 1,293
Celebrity Silhouette 122,000 319m 13 2,902 1,285
Celebrity Equinox 122,000 317m 13 2,852 1,290
Celebrity Eclipse 122,000 317m 13 2,850 1,286
Celebrity Solstice 122,000 315m 13 2,850 1,284
Celebrity Constellation 91,000 294m 11 2,184 1,022
Celebrity Millennium 90,940 294m 11 2,218 1,024
Celebrity Infinity 90,940 294m 11 2,170 1,024
Celebrity Summit 90,940 294m 11 2,158 1,027
Celebrity Flora 5,739 102m 6 100 80
Celebrity Xpedition 2,842 90m 4 48 58
Celebrity Xploration 316 30m 3 16 12

The occupancy refers to how many passengers each ship can accommodate based on having two guests in each room. As some staterooms have extra beds for third and fourth passengers, the maximum occupancy will be higher.

Celebrity Ascent and Celebrity Beyond are the biggest in the fleet

The largest Celebrity Cruises ship is Celebrity Ascent, along with her twin sister Celebrity Beyond. These cruise ships have a volume of 140,600 GT and a length of 327 m, making the ships 12% larger than the next biggest ships in the Celebrity Cruises fleet.

The biggest Celebrity Cruises ships at sea previously were sister ships Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Apex which have a volume of 129,500 GT and 16 passenger decks. However, Celebrity Reflection is 13 meters longer at 319m in length and can accommodate around 100 more guests despite having three fewer decks.

Me with Celebrity Apex

Why are some ships so small?

Celebrity Xploration, Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Flora are small ships, accommodating 16, 48 and 100 guests, respectively. In fact, Celebrity Xploration is the smallest cruise ship in the world!

These ships cruise to the remote Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador and so they need to be small to access the ports, sometimes via Zodiac boat.

The four Celebrity classes explained

Don’t confuse ship classes with stateroom classes

Celebrity Cruises also has two classes of accommodation that offer special services and amenities: the Aqua Class and the Concierge Class.

Aqua Class staterooms – In premium locations close to the spa, these come with unlimited access to spa areas and a range of perks, including welcome drinks, daily canapes, a pillow menu, bathrobes, yoga mats and priority check-in.

Concierge Class staterooms – Located on upper decks in midship locations, these come with perks such as an exclusive lunch on embarkation day, daily canapes, a pillow menu, priority check-in and access to a personalised concierge service.

The best Celebrity ships for families

All of the Celebrity Cruises ships are good for kids, so it wouldn’t be possible to say that one particular ship is the best. While you won’t find waterslides and ziplines, Celebrity Cruises kids’ clubs are great, with soft play and lots of organised activities.

They also have special resources available to help autistic guests, including children. Families can get priority boarding, and there are sensory toys to hire. Some film screenings are also low-volume and low-lighting, and autistic children can attend a kids club outside of their age range if it means they are more comfortable with a sibling.

When choosing a Celebrity cruise with children, the itinerary is probably more important than the ship. Older kids will love the Galapagos expeditions, warm weather cruises are loved by all, while parents with pre-school kids may like to look out for no-fly cruises from their nearest port.

The older ships have all been modernised as part of a $500-million makeover. So it’s fair to say that there are no bad ships when it comes to Celebrity Cruises.

Actually Worth It Or Not? (2024)

Celebrity Cruises offers a number of different options when it comes to picking your stateroom – it’s not just as simple as deciding on whether you want an ocean view or a balcony.

As well as the different room types, there are various sub-classes with additional benefits. One of these is the AquaClass, a variant of the Balcony Staterooms.

AquaClass Sky Suites

So, what do you get if you upgrade to the Celebrity Cruise Aqua Class rooms, and is it worth it?

AquaClass – a luxury upgrade on a Veranda Stateroom

AquaClass is an accommodation option on Celebrity Cruises that consists of a Veranda Stateroom and a number of extra perks. The size of the staterooms are similar to regular balcony room, but they’re usually furnished in lighter colours to accentuate that refreshing spa feel.

AquaClass is considered to be two steps up from a regular Veranda Stateroom, and one step up from Concierge Class. They’re essentially a premium sub-class of Veranda, rather than being considered a completely different type of cabin.

If you did want more space than a regular Veranda Stateroom, then you’ll instead need to look at the Suites that are available. These are much roomier and come with a lot of additional benefits. But they’re also more expensive again.

If you’re happy with the space offered by a Veranda Stateroom but want something a little more special, that’s where Aqua Class could be ideal.

AquaClass stateroom

The perks of choosing AquaClass

AquaClass guests on a Celebrity Cruise enjoy an overall wellness experience, including extra perks in the stateroom, access to the onboard spa areas, a complimentary wellness consultation, and exclusive access to the Blu restaurant, among other perks.

There’s a lot that you get, so let’s take a closer look at all of the Aqua Class Celebrity benefits…

1. Spa access

One of the main reasons to choose an AquaClass stateroom is to enjoy the benefits of the onboard spa areas. Each of the AquaClass staterooms is situated closer to the spa because, while they’re all about healthy living, that doesn’t mean the inconvenience of walking a long distance to get there!

If you’re on an Edge-Class ship, you’ll enjoy access to the SEA Thermal Suite. On Millennium and Solstice Class ships, you can instead get into the Persian Garden, with Solstice Class ships also having the Relaxation Room.

To be clear, your treatments aren’t included – just access to the spas and relaxation areas in these areas of the ship.

But you will also get a wellness consultation with a spa concierge who can recommend treatments for you. You also get priority reservations at the spa, so you can secure your favourite treatments before those slots book up.

Spa on Celebrity cruises

2. Blu Restaurant

The Blu restaurant on a Celebrity ship is for the exclusive use of AquaClass guests. Suite guests can use the restaurant, but only if there is space available – AquaClass guests get priority. Suite guests do have their own restaurant anyway.

The restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner. It offers a more intimate setting with ‘cleaner’ cuisine.

Blu restaurant

You don’t have to make reservations to dine at Blu, but you can arrange them if you’re planning on dining with a group of six or more people, just to ensure there’s a suitable table available for you.

Here’s a look at an example menu that you can enjoy at Blu when you’re an AquaClass guest:

Aqua Class Blu Menu Example
Aqua Class Blu Restaurant Menu Example

3. Stateroom extras

There are a few extra touches that help to differentiate the AquaClass staterooms and make them feel like they are designed for cleaner, healthier living.

For a start, your shower has an extra panel with massaging water jets. And the entire stateroom comes with an enhanced air filtration system so that you’re breathing the freshest, cleanest air on the ship!

It’s not like unclean air is a problem anywhere else on the ship, but it sounds good, at least.

But if you want to make that air a little less pure, you also get an aromatherapy diffuser included in your room. Fancy!

AquaClass bathroom

4. Canapes and sparkling wine on request

A perk that is available for Concierge Class guests and above – therefore including AquaClass guests – is the option to request canapes in your stateroom every afternoon. They’re a great luxury snack if you can’t quite wait until dinner.

Need a drink to wash them down? Sparkling wine is also available as a complimentary option on request.

5. Pillow menu

As part of getting the healthiest, best night’s sleep possible, all guests in AquaClass staterooms are able to choose from a menu of pillows.

If you have a particular need, or you just want to try out other pillow choices to find the one that feels most comfortable, it may be worth consulting the menu to see which one fits you best.

The options include:

  • Goose down pillow
  • Body pillow (feather and down blend)
  • Conformance pillow (designed to be firmer and offer additional support)
  • Isotonic pillow (made using synthetic down)
  • Hypoallergenic pillows (suitable for those sensitive to allergies – no feather or down used)

Tried a pillow and found that it wasn’t that comfortable? Just ask for it to be swapped. It’s no problem.

Pillows on bed on Celebrity Cruises ship

6. Fitness amenities

While you’re staying in an AquaClass stateroom, you’re able to make use of a number of extra fitness amenities in your stateroom. You get two yoga mats as standard, but then you can also ask for any of the following to be provided:

  • Inflatable boxing bag and gloves
  • Meditation kit with a weighted blanket
  • Yoga kit with blocks and bolster
  • Strength and conditioning kit, including medicine ball, dumbbells, resistance bands and more
  • Recovery kit, including acupressure mat, deep tissue roller and other massage tools

8. Small added extras

There are a host of small extras that you also get when booking an AquaClass stateroom that don’t justify an entire solo entry on this list, so I’ve grouped them together here;

  • Complimentary pair of slippers to use in your stateroom
  • Use of an umbrella and binoculars during the cruise (but the binoculars must remain on the ship at all times, they can’t be used for excursions)
  • Complimentary shoe-shining service
  • Extra hairdryer in the stateroom (two instead of the usual one)
  • Upgraded Hansgrohe rainfall showerhead
  • Embossed keyholder and tote bag

Is it really worth paying extra for AquaClass?

Deciding on whether AquaClass is worth paying for on a Celebrity cruise is very much a personal decision, based on how much you’ll benefit from the extra perks. For people who care deeply about fitness and wellness, these rooms offer a special and unique experience.

Typically, you should expect to pay in the region of $400 to $800 more per person for an AquaClass stateroom over the cruise-only fare for a Veranda Stateroom.

You get a host of additional benefits, so think about how important those are to you. Are you going to make use of them, or would you be better served saving the extra money to put towards something you would be more interested in?

However, no other stateroom at sea offers the same kind of health and wellness experience – from your own consultation to having so much fitness equipment available to use in your stateroom.

Anyone passionate about this sort of lifestyle will struggle to find a cruise accommodation option that is better suited to them.

drinks on Celebrity cruise

Aqua Class Vs Concierge Class

Concierge Class is considered to be one step below AquaClass. They share many of the same perks, but AquaClass is tailored more to people who enjoy the spa.

Despite being considered a step below, there are a couple of perks that Concierge Class guests enjoy that AquaClass guests don’t, including:

  • An exclusive welcome aboard lunch
  • Concierge service for help booking dining reservations and entertainment
  • Priority dining times

Of course, Concierge Class guests don’t get access to Blu, or the spas on the ships. Nor do they have access to a spa concierge.

Shared perks that guests of both categories enjoy include:

  • Pillow menu
  • Complimentary canapes and sparkling wine
  • Little extras in the room*

*To be clear, you don’t get the slippers in your room if you’re a Concierge Class guest – hopefully, that’s not a major issue!

Read more: Celebrity Cruises Concierge Class Benefits

Aqua Class Vs Retreat

The Retreat is Celebrity’s Suite class, and it’s a ship-within-a-ship concept – the chance for guests to enjoy a number of areas of the ship that are exclusive to them.

The Retreat

Retreat guests enjoy a number of extra perks above and beyond what AquaClass guests can benefit from, including:

  • Access to the Luminae Restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Exclusive lounge access on-board
  • Exclusive sundeck areas
  • Dedicated butler service
  • Shore excursion credit
  • Full in-suite dining options
  • Premium Drinks Package
  • Premium WiFi Package
  • Welcome bottle of Champagne or sparkling wine
Luminae at The Retreat

And because this is the suite class, the rooms are much more spacious too. But the fare difference is substantial – on a typical 7-night cruise, you may pay an extra $1,500 to $2,000 more per person for a Retreat suite than you would for an AquaClass stateroom.

Celebrity Retreat Deals

I recommend booking with luxury specialists Panache Cruises for the best service.

The bottom line

If you’re someone who intends to spend most of your time poolside or exploring the ports on your cruise, then an AquaClass Stateroom might not be worth the upgrade cost.

Sure, there are a couple of extra perks that you may enjoy, but if you want to enjoy all that the ship has to offer, then the added cost may not be worthwhile.

But if you like the sound of dining in Blu, or especially if you’re someone who cares about fitness and wellness and would love to relax in the SEA Thermal Suite, or workout in the comfort of your own stateroom, then the AquaClass is brilliant.

It’s not going to be for everyone, but I’d definitely recommend you consider it as an upgrade – especially on those sailings where it’s only a couple of hundred dollars more than a Veranda Stateroom.

Celebrity Cruises Wi-Fi Cost (& How To Get It Free)

While a lot of people like to switch off from the world when on a cruise and use the time to enjoy something of a digital detox, for others, that’s either uncomfortable or simply not an option.

There could be all kinds of reasons you need an internet connection on your cruise – checking in with family/pet-sitters, managing your banking accounts, an occasional check of those work emails…

So, if you’re sailing on Celebrity Cruises, how do you avoid those astronomical roaming prices while at sea? What are the WiFi options on your ship, and is there a way to get online free?

Celebrity Cruises Internet Packages

Celebrity Cruises has two internet packages, although you can’t actually book them in the same way anymore. There’s the Basic package, and the faster Premium one.

A family enjoying a relaxed time on a yacht, with a smiling woman showing a tablet to a young boy while a teenager uses a tablet on the side. They are surrounded by a luxurious setting with snacks and drinks on the table, indicating a leisurely day on the water.

Basic Vs Premium Wi-Fi

Basic Wi-Fi with Celebrity Cruises is designed for simple, low demand tasks such as checking emails and sending messages – provided you’re not attaching photos or video clips. If you want full internet functionality, you’ll need the Premium Wi-Fi package.

Here’s what each package can be used for:

Task Basic Wi-Fi Premium Wi-Fi
Access Emails YES YES
Browsing the Web YES YES
Texting/Messaging YES YES
Sharing Photos No YES
Sharing Videos No YES
Sending Files/Attachments No YES
Posting Photos/Videos to Social Media No YES
Video Chats No YES
Streaming Media No YES
Casting Streamed Media to Stateroom TVs No YES – Edge-class ships only

The package you need depends on what you plan on using the WiFi network for.

If you want to just check in with emails or keep tabs on the news and sports headlines, the Basic Wi-Fi will be sufficient. Otherwise, upgrading to Premium might be the best plan.

Celebrity Cruises Wi-Fi Is Pricey

You can’t buy the Basic Wi-Fi Package as a standalone package anymore, only Premium Wi-Fi. (If you booked it before 1st June 2023 then you’ll still get it, even if your cruise departs in 2024 or 2025.)

You can still get Basic Wi-Fi through the all-inclusive cruise fare.

Premium Wi-Fi – From $26.99 per day

Premium Wi-Fi packages with Celebrity cruises start at $26.99 per device, per day, although the price will vary depending on your ship and the popularity of the itinerary.

The newer the ship, the more you will likely pay, with prices starting at $32.99 on the newest ships.

You do get a discount if you purchase a second device, which is typically 20%. So you can expect to pay just under $50 per day for two devices on most cruises on the older ships in the fleet, and just under $60 per day for two devices on the Edge-class ships.

You can also get discounts by booking your Wi-Fi package in advance. Often, there will be special offers saving you at least 10% on the price, but it may be more during sale periods. You should always make sure you’re checking My Celebrity Cruise, the online account section of the Celebrity website where you can book packages and excursions, to get the best deal.

Celebrity Cruises Wifi Packages

Basic Wi-Fi – Free with ‘All-Included’ Rate

Since June 2023 you can no longer buy the Basic Wi-Fi package as a standalone internet package, but that doesn’t mean it’s no longer available.

If you booked your cruise before 1st June 2023 and chose the Basic Wi-Fi package, then that’s still what you’ll get. Otherwise, the Basic Wi-Fi is included when you choose Celebrity’s All Included cruise fare.

Celebrity Cruises used to be an all-inclusive cruise line, but that changed in 2022 and the cruise line began to offer the option of choosing a Cruise-Only fare, or opting for the All-Included package.

This package originally included the Basic Wi-Fi package, a Classic Drinks Package, and your daily gratuities. In late 2023, the gratuities were removed from the package and must now be paid separately.

This is the only way guests can enjoy Basic Wi-Fi now, by choosing the All-Included fare.

The cost of All Included can vary, but it should cost less per day than the combined cost of a Classic Drinks Package ($89 per person, per day) and the added cost of WiFi. On average, it costs around $80 per day for All Included.

It’s important to note that, if you choose a suite in The Retreat, you’ll get a more premium version of the All Included fare automatically, which includes the Premium Wi-Fi package and a Premium Drinks Package.

Upgrading From Basic Wi-Fi to Premium Wi-Fi

It is possible to book a Basic Wi-Fi package by choosing an All Included cruise fare, and then paying an upgrade fee to enjoy Premium Wi-Fi. This costs $9.99 per person, per day.

You can do this before you sail, or once you’re onboard, though if you upgrade while onboard you’ll have to pay for the full length of the cruise and the upgrade cost will be higher.

This makes sense if you want a Classic Drinks Package but faster WiFi, since you will likely pay a total of around $90 per day extra compared to your regular cruise fare (average of $80 per day for All Included, and $10 extra for the Premium Wi-Fi upgrade), which is the same price as buying the Classic Drinks Package on its own.

You Can Use The Celebrity App Without Wifi

You don’t need to purchase a WiFi package to use the Celebrity app. It’s designed to work on the free guest WiFi network that’s on the ship, so you can still use it to manage your excursions, your dining reservations and more.

However, you should download it before you travel. It’s possible to download it on the ship but the connection will be slow and it’ll take time, and depending on your app store it might fail a few times.

If you aren’t interested in using the internet for any other purpose, you can just use the app via the guest WiFi network to manage your cruise, and skip paying for an internet package.

How To Get Free Wi-Fi On Celebrity Cruises

There are a few ways you can enjoy Wi-Fi internet access without having to pay for it separately on a Celebrity cruise.

Before diving into these, a quick note – there are typically a couple of computers that guests can use in the internet cafe or library onboard their Celebrity ship, but the internet on here isn’t free. You can usually access the Celebrity Cruises website on them, and maybe a couple of other unblocked sites for downloading travel documents, but you can’t use them freely.

1. Book the All Included Cruise Fare

Booking the All Included cruise fare is one way to get ‘free’ Wi-Fi. Of course, it’s not really free, since you’re paying the extra for that fare. But it does mean that you don’t have to worry about paying extra for your internet access or your tips when you’re onboard the ship, and can use them as much as you want.

Remember that this only gets you the Basic Wi-Fi package though. You will still need to pay the upgrade fee if you want to share photos, stream movies or video call your family.

2. Book a Suite in The Retreat

Guests who stay in The Retreat, the exclusive suite area found on all of the main Celebrity Cruises fleet (excluding the Expedition ships that are much smaller) will automatically get Premium WiFi and Premium Drinks included.

Bird's-eye view of a cruise ship's exclusive retreat area, featuring a modern design with luxurious lounging spaces, a private pool, cabanas, and a distinctive geometric glass dome. The ship's deck blends sleek architecture and tropical elements against the backdrop of the ocean.

Again, it isn’t truly ‘free’ because you’re paying a much higher price to enjoy suite accommodations, compared to a regular stateroom. However unlike choosing between the Cruise Only and All Included packages, this isn’t a different fare. The Retreat doesn’t give you the option, so it is automatically included.

You also get a lot more benefits than just the Premium Wi-Fi and Premium Drinks when booking a suite in The Retreat.

Celebrity Retreat Deals

I recommend booking with luxury specialists Panache Cruises for the best service.

3. Be a Zenith Member of the Captain’s Club

The Captain’s Club is the loyalty programme for Celebrity Cruises. The more that you cruise with Celebrity, the more points you accrue and the higher up the tiers you progress, with each unlocking additional perks.

The top tier is the Zenith tier, and once you reach this you’ll have free Premium Wi-Fi on every subsequent cruise you take with Celebrity.

Zenith Member of the Captain’s Club flashing a vibrant smile all together during a photo op

It’s no small feat though – you need 3,000 Club Points or more to be in the Zenith tier, which is the equivalent of cruising for 1,500 nights in a regular Inside or Ocean View stateroom.

The better a class of stateroom you book, the more points you gain – you ‘only’ need 125 nights if you book the very best Iconic Suites for your cruises to reach that milestone.

Some of the other tiers in the Captain’s Club do offer WiFi perks as well:

  • Preview (0 to 1 points) – No WiFi perk
  • Classic (2 to 149 points) – 10% off Premium Wi-Fi packages
  • Select (150 to 299 points) – 25% off Premium Wi-Fi packages
  • Elite (300 to 749 points) – 30% off Premium Wi-Fi packages plus 90 minutes of free Wi-Fi access
  • Elite Plus (750 to 2999 points) – 35% off Premium Wi-Fi packages plus 240 minutes of free Wi-Fi access

So you don’t quite need to get to Zenith – as long as you reach Elite, you will get some free internet, just not much.

By Elite Plus you have four hours, which you can spread across the cruise as you need it. You just need to remember to disconnect to avoid letting the minutes run out.

4. Find Free Wi-Fi access in Port

While not technically ‘on’ your Celebrity cruise, the best way to get truly free WiFi access without booking loads of cruises is to find it in port.

There are often lots of bars and restaurants in ports that offer free WiFi, so if you can limit your access to when you’re ashore then you can enjoy it without paying.

Free Wi-Fi access sticker on port to signify cruise goers that wifi is available on the establishment

It’s a good idea to ask the crew for advice – they don’t get free internet on the ship either, so they tend to know the best places in port to get free WiFi access.

Depending on where you’re sailing, look for chains such as Starbucks or McDonalds as you’ll typically get free WiFi here.

About The Wi-Fi On Celebrity Cruises

Since Celebrity Cruises upgraded to using Starlink satellite internet access, the general consensus is that the Premium Wi-Fi package is pretty good. Cruise ship internet has traditionally been quite slow, but the Premium Wi-Fi can deliver on its promises of video calls and streaming services.

The Basic Wi-Fi package is less reliable – this is less likely to be a limitation of Starlink, but instead due to the speeds being throttled by Celebrity Cruises to make sure the Premium upgrade is worth paying for.

However, Starlink is not available on the Expedition ships – Celebrity Flora, Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Xploration. There’s some conflicting information on this online, but I’ve checked with the cruise line directly. So the WiFi on those ships will be slower.

Celebrity Flora expedition ship
Celebrity Flora

Of course, those cruises aren’t really aimed at those who want to spend most of their time online anyway – it’s more about exploration and adventure. It just means waiting until you get home if you want to upload all the amazing photos you take with any speed.

Final Word

The Wi-Fi package on Celebrity Cruises is very fast and reliable – provided you choose the Premium package. If you decide to book on an All Included fare, then it might be worthwhile upgrading to Premium for the extra daily fee, particularly if you plan on using the internet a lot.

If you only need to occasionally check in with emails, you can save money by making use of the free WiFi you’ll find in your ports of call. And if you continue cruising with Celebrity, you’ll eventually climb the tiers of the Captain’s Circle enough to enjoy some free minutes on each sailing, and a pretty good discount on buying the package too.

Celebrity Retreat Package: Worth It Or Not?

Many cruise lines have a separate area of the ship reserved exclusively for suite guests…

Often called a “ship-within-a-ship”, it’s an area that typically has not just the accommodation but also a restaurant, a lounge and a sun deck. VIP guests can happily spend the whole day in this area without getting caught up in the crowds around the rest of the ship.

Celebrity Cruises has this – it’s called The Retreat.

Exclusive celebrity retreat aerial shot showing its premium look onboard

The Retreat proved so popular when it was added to the newer Edge-class ships that it has been retroactively added to the rest of the ocean-sailing fleet for the cruise line.

But, is it worth paying extra to stay in a Retreat suite, or should you look at booking something cheaper? Let’s take a look at the Celebrity Retreat benefits…

Here’s what you get when you book The Retreat…

1. Suite Accommodations

White interior of the iconic suite onboard showing its elegant looking sheets and room design

One of the obvious perks of choosing to stay in The Retreat is the suite accommodations that you can choose from.

Each ship has a range of suites available, including the entry-level Sky Suites and the more spacious and opulent Penthouse Suites, Signature Suites, Iconic Suites and more.

You’ll enjoy much more spacious rooms and balconies, including separate living and dining areas in the biggest suites onboard.

2. Private Restaurant – Luminae

The sophisticated interior of Luminae at The Retreat on Celebrity Beyond, featuring an elegant monochromatic color scheme with bold red accents, modern spherical chandeliers, and expansive windows offering ocean views.

Luminae is an exclusive restaurant for guests of The Retreat, offering a more premium dining experience than in the Main Dining Room.

Expect elegant and modern design and beautiful dining options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Retreat guests are still welcome to enjoy the Main Dining Room and other speciality restaurants onboard too, of course.

3. The Retreat Lounge

An empty retreat lounge with its elegant looking design exclusive for passengers who avail celebrity retreat

The Retreat Lounge is a modern and inviting space that’s exclusive to suite guests.

Here, you can just soak up the view and enjoy a quiet spot to read a book, or you can sample some of the complimentary drinks and light bites served throughout the day. This is also where you’ll find the Concierge service.

4. The Retreat Sundeck

The exclusive Retreat Sundeck on Celebrity Beyond, featuring a serene pool area with luxurious red and white loungers, matching pillows, and side tables, all set against a backdrop of modern design elements and open skies.

The Retreat has its own sundeck, a peaceful haven of tranquillity when you want to relax on a lounger without the busy crowds.

The Edge-class ships all have a pool on the deck here, while older ships will have either a hot tub or water feature. There’s an attendant here too, who can provide drinks, snacks and towels for you to use.

5. Retreat Butler

A well-dressed butler helping to serve a meal on a cruise ship terrace with a beautiful sea view

Retreat guests will be able to enjoy the services of a butler team, who go above and beyond to make your stay more comfortable.

Whether it’s sorting out a laundry request or changing your pillows to something else from the menu to help you sleep better, nothing is too much trouble.

6. Retreat Concierge

The Concierge Desk and Shore Excursion area on Celebrity Edge, designed with a contemporary aesthetic, featuring interactive screens, elegant furniture, and a calming neutral color palette complemented by the soft, wave-patterned carpet.

There’s also a dedicated Retreat Concierge that guests can use to help organise their cruise.

The Concierge is available pre-cruise via telephone or in-person on the ship in the Retreat Lounge. They can handle all kinds of tasks including booking spa treatments, speciality dining and more.

7. Premium Drink Package

A cool bartender showing off his skills, serving customers onboard their drinks

Guests staying in The Retreat will enjoy a Premium Drink Package included in their fare, allowing them to enjoy almost any drink on the ship without paying extra. This also entitles you to 20% off any bottle of wine you buy onboard too.

8. Premium WiFi

People enjoying the wifi on a Celebrity cruise

Premium WiFi is also included for guests in The Retreat, meaning everyone in the suite can stay connected with friends and family back home or even stream their favourite movies and TV shows.

9. Priority Check-in and Departure

Guests in The Retreat are granted priority for boarding the ship on embarkation day, and for leaving the ship on the last day of the cruise.

This helps you maximise your first cruise day, whilst also beating the crowds and the rush to leave the port when your cruise is over.

10. Priority Tender

The inside of a tender boat

If your cruise visits any tender ports (where the ship is too big to dock and must ferry guests ashore using tender boats), The Retreat guests will get priority to board those boats.

You won’t get priority for the return journey back to the ship though, so you’ll need to queue with everyone else.

11. Complimentary In-Suite Dining

Celebrity suite with dining table

One of the best perks of The Retreat is the complimentary in-suite dining.

This is more than just room service – this is a full-service meal brought to your suite whenever you like, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner.

If you want to skip the busier atmosphere of the restaurants and just enjoy your food in the comfort of your own room, the butler team will be happy to serve it for you. It does include lighter room service meals and snacks too, if you prefer.

12. Reserved Theatre Seating on Evening Chic Nights

The modern interior of a theater on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring plush purple seating, a spacious circular stage, and ambient lighting. The design is complemented by a large, abstract forest mural, creating an immersive entertainment environment.

Celebrity’s formal nights are called ‘Evening Chic’ and they’re some of the busier nights on the ship, as everyone likes to get dressed up and enjoy the atmosphere.

If you’re staying in The Retreat, you can request reserved seating in the theatre on these nights, so that you don’t miss a show and you get a great view.

13. Welcome Drinks

A welcoming setting on Celebrity Apex featuring a chilled bottle of champagne in an ice bucket, two empty glasses ready for a toast, and a 'Welcome to the Apex' card on a table with a vibrant orange sofa and warm lighting in the background.

A nice little touch is that you’ll be given a welcome bottle of Champagne or sparkling wine in your suite when you arrive onboard.

You’ll also be given a selection of speciality coffees that you can enjoy in your suite throughout your cruise.

14. In-Suite Amenities

The interior of a premium-looking suite along with its amenities, one of which is the eXhale bedding.

There are various other smaller touches that Retreat guests will enjoy in their suite, such as the cruise line’s premium eXhale bedding, a pillow menu, and luxury bathroom toiletries.

Guests can also request fresh fruit to be delivered to the suite, and there are slippers and a bathrobe provided for each guest to use during the cruise.

Important note:

One important note on all of these benefits – you only get them if you book a suite in The Retreat outright.

If you apply for a MoveUp upgrade – where you bid for an upgrade once you already have a stateroom booked – and you’re successfully moved into The Retreat, you won’t get all of the perks.

The Premium WiFi and Premium Drink Package won’t be included, and some others will vary.

The Cost Vs Regular Staterooms

Staying in The Retreat is a significant price jump from staying in other accommodations on the ship.

All suites in the main Celebrity Cruises fleet are now part of The Retreat, so you can’t enjoy the suite perks without paying Retreat prices.

Remember that The Retreat is not just one suite type either, so there isn’t one fixed price. Staying in the entry-level suites in The Retreat can often cost just 20% of staying in the very best suites on the ship!

Here are a couple of example cruise fares, to show you the difference in price.

Celebrity Equinox 6-night Caribbean cruise

Inside Veranda Concierge Class AquaClass The Retreat – Sky Suite The Retreat – Penthouse Suite
$599pp $699pp $749pp $1,049pp $2,030pp $9,430pp

Celebrity Ascent 7-night Mediterranean Cruise

Inside Veranda Concierge Class AquaClass The Retreat – Magic Carpet Sky Suite The Retreat – Iconic Suite
$1,599pp $2,049pp $2,249pp $2,799pp $4,693pp $28,062pp

As you can see, prices for The Retreat jump up considerably. Remember you do get the Premium WiFi and Premium Drinks included, along with all the other perks – but they aren’t cheap if you’re on a tighter budget.

Celebrity Retreat Deals

I recommend booking with luxury specialists Panache Cruises for the best service.

Is It Worth It?

There’s no simple answer on whether The Retreat is worth it. You get a lot of perks for booking a suite, but a lot of them you can’t really put a price on – things like the exclusive sundeck and lounge area, or having a more premium restaurant, don’t have a price tag.

The best way to work out whether it’s worth it is to look at all of the perks and work out whether you would find most of them useful and enjoyable. If you would, then booking a suite in The Retreat will likely be worth it for you, provided you are looking for a cruise in that price bracket.

But if only half of the perks appeal, and you’re someone who doesn’t tend to stay in their room much and spends more time exploring the ship or the destinations you’re cruising to, consider whether booking a smaller room and paying for things like your drinks package and WiFi separately would make more sense.

Maybe you should consider the Aqua Class instead…?

Celebrity Retreat vs Aqua Class

AquaClass Sky Suite on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring a serene and stylish decor with a plush bed, accented with red and beige, a comfortable sofa, and a framed picture of an elegant vintage dress, enhancing the luxurious cabin experience.

Aqua Class on a Celebrity Cruises ship is not quite suite level – instead, it’s a class designed for guests who value the spa and relaxation and who want to make the most of that part of the cruise ship.

The Retreat has a lot more perks than AquaClass, but there are some features of AquaClass that suite guests won’t benefit from.

These include:

  • Yoga mats in the stateroom
  • Exclusive discounts on spa treatments
  • Unlimited access to the Spa Thermal Suite or Persian Garden (depending on the ship)
  • Complimentary fitness classes
  • Access to the Blu restaurant*
  • An enhanced air filtration system in the room

On the Blu restaurant – guests staying in The Retreat are permitted to use it, but only when space is available. Priority is always given to those in an Aqua Class Stateroom, since Retreat guests can use Luminae as their own exclusive venue.

AquaClass Sky Suites

The Aqua Sky Suites on the Edge-class ships offer the best of both worlds – they are the only suites considered part of both Aqua Class and The Retreat, and guests will get all the perks of each.

Celebrity Retreat vs NCL Haven

NCL Haven sun deck

The Haven is Norwegian Cruise Line’s own exclusive suite area for guests. It’s very popular with NCL guests and offers many of the same services and perks you’d find in The Retreat, including a lounge, a private Haven restaurant and a sun deck.

Guests will also benefit from concierge services, luxury amenities, and a Premium Drinks Package included too – the packages are very similar.

The perks you get with The Haven on NCL that aren’t included with The Retreat on Celebrity:

  • A personal escort on and off the ship
  • Use of a mobile phone on the ship (weird, right?)
  • A cocktail party with the ship’s officers

And the perks you get with The Retreat that aren’t included with The Haven are:

  • Complimentary in-suite dining (The Haven does have free room service)
  • Reserved theatre seating

Celebrity Infinity
Celebrity Millennium

Can Celebrity Retreat Guests Eat at Blu?

Guests staying in The Retreat on a Celebrity cruise are permitted to eat at Blu, provided space is available. Priority is given to AquaClass guests for the Blu restaurant. Guests staying in an Aqua Sky Suite are considered part of both The Retreat and AquaClass, so they enjoy priority dining in Blu.

Are Drinks Included Celebrity Retreat?

All guests staying in The Retreat are automatically given a Premium Drink Package as part of their cruise fare, and they can enjoy further complimentary drinks at The Retreat Lounge. Of course, any children staying in The Retreat will get a Non-Alcoholic Drink Package instead.

Is the Celebrity Retreat Adults Only?

The Celebrity Retreat is not an adults-only part of the ship. Children are permitted to stay in The Retreat Suites with their parents or guardians, and have access to The Retreat Lounge, The Retreat Sun Deck and the Luminae restaurant.

Do Celebrity Sky Suites Have Access to the Retreat?

Sky Suites are part of The Retreat, and so guests staying in one of these suites will have full access to all of the Retreat facilities including the concierge, the exclusive restaurant, the lounge and the sun deck.

What Is the Phone Number for the Retreat Concierge on Celebrity Cruises?

The phone number to speak to the Retreat Concierge on Celebrity Cruises is +1-877-RETREAT, or +1-877-7387327. Guests staying in The Retreat can call the concierge at any point leading up to the cruise to discuss any details needed, and then onboard they can help with reservations for spa treatments, restaurants and more.

Celebrity Suite Deals

I recommend booking with luxury specialists Panache Cruises for the best service.

Final Word

Celebrity’s ships are already beautiful and modern, but choosing a suite in The Retreat really does take things to another level.

Not only do you get some of the best-looking and most spacious accommodations at sea, but you have the whole exclusive area of The Retreat to enjoy, as well as a host of additional perks and benefits.

Whether or not it’s worth it depends entirely on your budget – if you don’t often spend much on a cruise, you might prefer to book a room that’s half the price (or less) on the same ship, and be able to book a second cruise with the same money.

But for guests who want the finest experiences, and who love the idea of a peaceful and exclusive area of the ship away from the bigger crowds, then The Retreat is certainly worth considering.

Celebrity Cruises Suite Perks Explained

If you want the very best accommodation and service on a cruise, you’ll want to book a suite. That’s true across all cruise lines, and Celebrity Cruises is no different.

Celebrity Cruises’ suites are beautiful, and the Celebrity suite benefits are excellent too. Of course, they don’t come cheap, but if you’re looking for a truly upmarket cruise experience then they certainly are worthy of your attention.

Expansive and modern Iconic Suite living area on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring contemporary furnishings in a soothing color palette, a chic dining area, and floor-to-ceiling glass windows providing panoramic views of the sea.

In this guide, I’ll explain everything you need to know about the different options for a suite on Celebrity Cruises, and what you get with each.

Celebrity Cruises Suite Types

There are a lot of different options for suites on a Celebrity cruise, but not all feature on every ship.

In total, there are 10 different suite types in the main Celebrity Cruises fleet. Here’s a look at what they are, and which ships they feature on:

Suite Found on
Iconic Suites Edge-class ships only
Edge Villas Edge-class ships only
Penthouse Suites All ships
Reflection Suites Celebrity Reflection only
Signature Suites Celebrity Reflection only
Royal Suites All ships
Horizon Suites Celebrity Silhouette only
Celebrity Suites All ships
Aqua Sky Suites All ships
Sky Suites All ships

All of the suites in the main Celebrity Cruises fleet are part of the Retreat, and with that comes a number of perks and benefits.

These are the Celebrity Suite Perks that you’ll enjoy across all of the suites:

1. Dine at Luminae

The Celebrity ships have some fantastic restaurants onboard, but one of the most revered is Luminae, a luxury fine dining venue open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with menus crafted by renowned chef Daniel Boulud.

The sophisticated interior of Luminae at The Retreat on Celebrity Beyond, featuring an elegant monochromatic color scheme with bold red accents, modern spherical chandeliers, and expansive windows offering ocean views.

The restaurant is exclusively for the use of suite guests, and many feel that it is worth the upgrade alone. The menu options here won’t be found in any other restaurants on the ship.

Suite guests can still choose to dine in the Main Dining Room if they prefer, and they’re also permitted to book at Blu, a restaurant normally reserved for Aqua Class guests, provided space is available.

2. Access to The Retreat Lounge & Retreat Sundeck

Suite guests get to enjoy the quieter exclusive areas of the ship, including the Retreat Lounge and Retreat Sundeck.

The warm and inviting Kelly Hoppen designed Retreat Lounge is a newly stylish space to unwind. Boasting dramatic floor-to-ceiling views, guests can take in the ever-changing scenery whenever they stop by this 24/7 lounge for complimentary beverages and gourmet bites.

The Retreat Lounge is a modern space that services snacks and complimentary drinks, and is perfect for reading a book, having a pre-dinner get-together with other suite guests, or just winding down in peace.

It’s also where you’ll find the Concierge Desk for suite guests.

The exclusive Retreat Sundeck on Celebrity Beyond, featuring a serene pool area with luxurious red and white loungers, matching pillows, and side tables, all set against a backdrop of modern design elements and open skies.

The Retreat Sundeck is a private sundeck area with upgraded sun loungers and a towel attendant who will provide towels and other amenities. Snacks and drinks are available here too.

The Retreat Sundeck on the Edge-class ships has a pool, while other ships have a water feature or hot tub.

3. Premium Drinks Package

All suite guests automatically get the Premium Drinks Package, normally worth over $100 per person, per day.

Guests aboard a Celebrity Cruises ship enjoying a toast with refreshing drinks, featuring a man and a woman laughing and smiling while they receive their beverages, with the calm ocean and clear skies in the background.

This entitles you to enjoy drinks up to the value of $17, as often as you would like, as well as a 20% discount on bottles of wine.

Of course, you can enjoy wine by the glass for free, so that discount perk is only for the serious connoisseurs who have their eye on a specific bottle.

4. Premium Wi-Fi Package

All guests in The Retreat get a Premium Wi-Fi package included with their fare too, normally worth at least $26.99 per day, depending on your ship and itinerary.

The Premium Wi-Fi is the best internet package available on the ship, and offers pretty impressive speeds, as all ships have Starlink satellite internet.

You’ll be able to video call, share photos and videos, and stream content as much as you want. If you’re on an Edge-class ship you can also stream content from your device to your suite TV.

5. Butler and Concierge Services

Guests staying in a suite get to enjoy the services of a butler team along with concierge services.

Your butler handles all requests to do with your suite. They’ll be able to serve you dinner from the restaurants onboard, shine your shoes, or arrange for your laundry to be collected and cleaned, as well as restock your minibar when needed.

The concierge team handles any requests for the rest of the ship, such as booking you a table at a speciality restaurant or arranging your shore excursions.

Suite guests can also use the concierge before they cruise – there’s a dedicated phone number to call to make bookings in advance or make other special requests.

6. Priority Check-in, Departure & Tenders

Suite guests can enjoy priority perks on the first and last day of their cruise, as well as at any tender ports.

On embarkation day, suite guests get priority check-in, meaning you aren’t queuing for long in the terminal and will be on the ship quickly.

When the cruise is over, you can disembark as a priority too, which can be highly advantageous if you’re trying to beat the rush to drive out of the terminal or find a cab to take you to the airport.

If your cruise has any tender ports – where the ship anchors out at sea and uses tender boats to ferry guests back and forth to shore – suite guests can get priority for boarding a tender to the port.

You won’t get priority for the return journey, though.

7. Reserved Theatre Seating

Celebrity Cruises’ formal nights are called Evening Chic Nights, and it’s when guests like to put on their best outfits and enjoy all the features of the ship. It’s a fun atmosphere, and very elegant.

It’s also where many of the facilities on the ship tend to get busier, as everyone onboard likes to join in.

So on these Evening Chic nights, suite guests can enjoy reserved theatre seating, so that they don’t miss out on a great view for the night’s entertainment.

8. Complimentary In-Suite Dining

Suite guests can enjoy complimentary dining in their suite 24 hours a day.

This isn’t just a snack-based room service menu though – they can enjoy a full dining service, with meals delivered from their favourite restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If you don’t feel like joining the rest of your shipmates, you can choose whatever meals you like and they’ll be served to you in the relaxing surroundings of your suite.

9. Welcome Champagne or Sparkling Wine

Suite guests will enjoy a welcome bottle of either Champagne or sparkling wine when they board their cruise.

A welcoming setting on Celebrity Apex featuring a chilled bottle of champagne in an ice bucket, two empty glasses ready for a toast, and a 'Welcome to the Apex' card on a table with a vibrant orange sofa and warm lighting in the background.

10. Complimentary In-Suite Coffees

Coffee-lovers can rejoice, as suite guests will have a range of coffee options available to make in their suite, including some speciality drinks.

You can have coffee delivered if you prefer, but if you want a disturbance-free morning, then you aren’t limited to standard coffee sachets.

11. Fresh Fruit Deliveries On Request

Any time you’re in the mood for some fresh fruit, just let your butler team know and they will bring it to your suite to enjoy.

12. Luxury Suite Amenities

Each suite is home to a host of luxurious amenities, elevating your experience to new heights. Some of these are grander than others, and will depend on the specific suite you book. You might enjoy full marble bathrooms, or whirlpool baths.

Luxurious Penthouse Suite bathroom on Celebrity Flora, with dual vessel sinks, a spacious glass-enclosed shower, and a Jacuzzi tub overlooking the ocean through floor-to-ceiling windows, combining modern design with breathtaking views.

You’ll definitely get to enjoy Celebrity’s most premium eXhale bedding, including luxurious plush duvets, fine cotton sheets and a pillow menu to help you get the best night’s sleep. Good luck getting out of bed to enjoy all the other suite perks!

Suite guests will also enjoy plush slippers, bathrobes to use during the cruise, and a range of premium bathroom toiletries.

13. Use of Umbrella & Binoculars

Guests in all suites are able to request a golf umbrella and a set of binoculars to use during the cruise.

Hopefully, the umbrella isn’t needed, but the binoculars are a quality set that you can use to really enjoy the view – great for Alaska cruises.

You can’t keep them, though you can purchase them (or a set like them) if you really can’t part with them.

There are a selection of suite benefits that only apply to the top suites across the fleet:

  • Iconic Suites
  • Edge Villas
  • Penthouse Suites
  • Reflection Suites
  • Signature Suites
  • Royal Suites

1. Unlimited Speciality Dining with Preferred Seating

Speciality dining restaurants on a Celebrity cruise ship normally have an additional fee – a cover charge that guests have to pay to dine there.

But in these suites, you can enjoy these restaurants at no extra cost, as many times as you want. You can even have the food delivered to your suite, if you prefer.

A chef artfully presents a gourmet dish at Eden Restaurant on a Celebrity Cruise, pouring a vibrant orange sauce over a beautifully plated scallop with accompanying garnishes, symbolizing the fine dining experience at sea.

However, if you do dine in the restaurants, you’ll also get to take advantage of preferred seating, getting not just the best food on the ship but also the best seats in each venue.

The only restaurant where you won’t get priority seating is Blu, since Aqua Class guests always get first priority here.

2. VIP Canapes

On request, you’ll be able to enjoy a selection of delectable canapes delivered to your suite by your butler.

The range of canapes will vary by ship and sailing, but they are all premium options to suit a range of tastes – perfect whether you are just relaxing in your own suite before heading out to dinner, or if you want to host a little in-suite party for the evening.

3. Complimentary Drinks In-Suite

You’ll already enjoy the complimentary Premium Drinks package as part of your cruise, but you don’t even need to leave your suite to enjoy free drinks when you’re a guest in one of these top-tier suites.

Your in-suite fridge will be stocked up with complimentary bottles of water, sodas and beers, and will be topped up daily to make sure you never run out. Not only that, but at the start of your cruise you’ll be given two bottles of premium spirits that you can enjoy during the cruise as well.

With the spirit bottles and the in-fridge sodas acting as mixers, along with those VIP canapes, you have everything you need for your party – or just for you to enjoy as you soak up the view each night.

4. Complimentary Laundry Service

Guests staying in these top-tier suites can enjoy free laundry services twice per cruise.

If you want to pack light, you can just ask your butler to arrange your laundry to be completed, and you won’t need to pay the usual fee. It’ll be delivered back to your room the following day, cleaned and pressed for you.

5. Priority Luggage Delivery

Guests staying in a suite get the benefit of priority luggage delivery, so you won’t be waiting long for your cases to arrive on embarkation day.

You can even ask your butler to unpack for you when the cases do arrive, if you don’t mind them handling your delicates.

The Aqua Sky Suites have a couple of unique benefits that you won’t get with any other suite. That’s because they are part of both The Retreat and the Aqua Class.

As well as the regular suite perks you’d already get, you can also enjoy:

  • Unlimited access to the SEA Thermal Suite (Edge-class ships) or Persian Garden (Millennium and Solstice-class ships)
  • In-room fitness amenities including yoga mats
  • Discounts on spa treatments and exercise classes
  • Priority booking for Blu, the Aqua Class restaurant
Interior of the SEA Thermal Suite on Celebrity Edge, featuring a sleek design with modern black and white decor, a wall of living plants, crystal sculptures, and reflective surfaces creating a tranquil and luxurious spa atmosphere.

Anyone who books a suite via the Celebrity Cruises Move Up upgrade programme will get most of the in-suite benefits, but extra perks will remain as they were with the original booking.

Celebrity’s Move Up programme lets you bid for an upgrade once you’ve booked a cruise. You can often secure a suite for much less than you would’ve otherwise paid, if they have availability.

But while you’ll enjoy all the perks tied to the room, you won’t get things like Premium Drinks Packages or Premium Wi-Fi for free. You’ll need to pay for those separately, or you won’t get them.

You don’t have to pay for them – if you don’t plan on drinking much and don’t care about the WiFi then you can just enjoy all the other suite benefits as normal.

The perks you get are a little different on the Expedition ships, though they bear a lot of similarities with the main fleet.

On Celebrity Xploration, suite guests enjoy:

  • A stocked mini bar
  • Use of wet suits and snorkeling equipment
  • Fine Egyptian linens
A Celebrity Cruises guest snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters of Bimini, surrounded by vibrant yellow and black striped fish and healthy coral reefs, with sunlight filtering through the surface, highlighting the underwater serenity.

The perks on Celebrity Xpedition and Celebrity Flora include:

  • A free refillable water bottle
  • Stocked minibar
  • Daily treats delivered to your suite including locally sourced chocolates
  • Champagne or sparkling wine on arrival
  • Complimentary backpack and poncho
  • Laundry services twice per sailing
  • Full in-suite dinner service

While these lists of perks aren’t as extensive as those in the main fleet, remember that these ships are designed more for the adventurous, and you’ll be spending more time ashore exploring.

They still bring that premium Celebrity Cruises feel to the suites, but the priority is very much on enjoying the destination rather than the suite accommodations.

Which Suite to Choose?

The best suite depends on so many factors, including what kind of budget you’re working with and how often you plan on cruising. The better suites do have some amazing features and are truly stunning, but if booking one of them would limit your ability to cruise again for a long time, it might be better to choose an entry-level suite and cruise twice instead.

The Iconic Suites and Penthouse Suites are particularly pricey. If you want the premium suite experience, but don’t have an uncapped budget, then it may be better to look at the Edge Villas or Royal Suites (or the Reflection or Signature Suites, if cruising on Celebrity Reflection).

Then you’ll get all the best perks, but at a lower cost. Royal Suites are often less than half the price of Iconic Suites, and around 60% the price of a Penthouse Suite.

Iconic Suites

The luxurious Iconic Suite on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring a king-sized bed with plush pillows, a sleek design with neutral tones, and an array of panoramic windows offering breathtaking, uninterrupted ocean views.

The best suites in the fleet, Iconic Suites sit above the ship’s bridge and offer amazing panoramic views. With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a huge amount of space, you’ll love the luxury feel that they offer.

Highlights of Iconic Suites include an expansive terrace with hot tub and a double daybed, a second whirlpool inside the main bathroom, and even a private butler’s pantry for any treats you wish to enjoy during the cruise.

Edge Villas

Stunning two-level Edge Villa on a Celebrity cruise ship, displaying a luxurious, open-concept design with a private plunge pool, chic lounge areas, a bedroom upstairs, sleek modern furniture, and expansive windows flooding the space with natural light.

Edge Villas are two-storey suites with a private tiered terrace that includes its own three-foot-deep plunge pool, along with a marble bathroom that has a whirlpool tub and a separate walk-in shower. The villas offer direct access to The Retreat Sundeck too, making them a great choice for relaxing either in-suite or on the more spacious deck.

Penthouse Suites

A luxurious Penthouse Suite bedroom on the Celebrity Ascent, elegantly appointed with a large comfortable bed, sophisticated neutral tones, artful decor, and ambient lighting, creating a relaxing and high-end atmosphere for guests.

The Penthouse Suites are stunning suite options, offering a huge amount of space including multiple bathrooms and an expansive terrace area. Penthouse Suites are the best suites you can book on Millennium-class and Solstice-class ships. They have a dining area that seats 8, and a separate lounge – ample space for hosting a small party.

Reflection Suites

The Reflection Suites are all about light and space – situated in the corner of the ship, they have higher ceilings than regular suites and full-height glass doors and windows, making for a beautifully bright space. The bathroom even has a cantilevered glass shower that juts out over the sea, making for quite the wake-up.

Signature Suites

The Signature Suites don’t offer a particular theme, but offer some fantastic amenities for guests including high ceilings and a spacious veranda, which includes lounge seating along with an outdoor tub with a rain shower over.

Royal Suites

The Royal Suite on a Celebrity cruise ship, with a modern and inviting design featuring a comfortable bed with a white and teal color scheme, elegant wall lamps, a decorative lattice headboard, and an art piece that adds a touch of sophistication to the room.

The Royal Suites are bright, modern and beautifully appointed. They have one bedroom and one bathroom, along with a separate living space. While not as expansive as some of the bigger suites on the ships, they do come with a host of perks, including a whirlpool bath and dual sinks on select ships.

Horizon Suites

Available exclusively on Celebrity Silhouette, the Horizon Suites are spacious and comfortable, including a veranda with lounge seating. You’ll get a separate living space and an impressive king-size bed in the bedroom, as well as a huge TV to enjoy.

Celebrity Suites

Elegant Celebrity Suite on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring a sophisticated living area with a gray sofa accented with red pillows, a contemporary coffee table, stylish artwork, and a glimpse into the cozy bedroom area.

Larger than the Sky Suites, the Celebrity Suites offer floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows and a cosy, contemporary living space separated from the bedroom by sliding doors. The sleek bathrooms feature marble-style accents, while plants help to add a bright and colourful touch to the room.

Aqua Sky Suites

AquaClass Sky Suite on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring a serene and stylish decor with a plush bed, accented with red and beige, a comfortable sofa, and a framed picture of an elegant vintage dress, enhancing the luxurious cabin experience.

The Aqua Sky Suites are quite unique in that they combine the suite experience with Aqua Class perks. These suites are aimed at those who enjoy the spa or fitness facilities onboard, with appropriate theming and extra little touches for the health-conscious.

Sky Suites

Modern Sky Suite on a Celebrity cruise ship, featuring a cozy bedroom with plush bedding, a stylish sofa, a work desk with a porthole view, and elegant, contemporary decor creating a tranquil retreat for passengers.

The entry-level suite options, Sky Suites are still a fantastic upgrade on a regular stateroom. You get a lot more space including room for a king-size bed, a comfortable sitting area with sofa, and a well-appointed bathroom with bathtub and some luxury touches.

The expedition ships for Celebrity are more individual. While some types of suite are shared with the main fleet, they aren’t as spacious, and they don’t come with the same perks.

Celebrity Xpedition has the following suites:

  • Penthouse Suites
  • Royal Suites
  • Xpedition Suites
  • Junior Suites

Celebrity Xploration has only one suite option:

Celebrity Flora has:

  • Penthouse Suites
  • Royal Suites
  • Ultimate Sky Suites with Infinite Veranda
  • Premium Sky Suites with Infinite Veranda
  • Sky Suites with Infinite Veranda
  • Sky Suites
Cozy Sky Suite with Infinite Veranda on the Celebrity Flora, featuring a plush bed, a comfortable seating area with chic furnishings, a widescreen TV, and floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open up to uninterrupted views of the ocean.

Final Word

No matter which Celebrity suite you settle on, you’re going to enjoy an incredible time with some fantastic benefits. But not all suites are equal – the Celebrity Sky Suite perks are not the same as the Celebrity Royal Suite benefits, and you’ll get more if you choose a higher class of suite.

Also, many of the perks are something you could pay for anyway. Only a handful are truly exclusive to suite guests, so bear that in mind if you’re torn between booking a regular stateroom or upgrading to a suite.

But then also remember that the suites are more spacious and have luxury amenities. Nobody said it was an easy choice!
