Carnival Adds New Mascot To Cruises, Themed Around Popular Onboard Hobby

Carnival Cruise Line, via Brand Ambassador John Heald, has announced that a new mascot will soon be joining the fleet – Ducky.

Carnival Ducky Mascot

Ducky is a duck mascot that is based on the popular hobby of hiding rubber/plastic ducks on cruise ships, an activity that many guests enjoy.

John Heald posted the news along with the photo of Ducky (above) alongside Pierre, the Carnival Jubilee Hotel Director, and Greg who is the Director of Guest Operations.

He announced that Ducky would be coming soon to all Carnival ships as a “continuation of the duck phenomenon”.

Most Carnival fans responded very positively to the news, posting comments about how they were excited to meet Ducky onboard their next Carnival cruise and get a photo with him.

However the feedback was not unanimously positive, and one comment had to be deleted by John Heald due to being “hateful”. It appears that the commenter had threatened to remove gratuities on their next cruise because of Ducky.

A very hateful comment, Amy. I understand not everybody is going to like this, but to say those words and to chastise the crew in such a way, sorry that’s why I deleted your commentThis duck is not going to be chasing you around the ship, it’s not going to be in your cabin. It’s not going to affect your cruise at all. So to threaten removal of gratuities because of this is quite honestly nonsense. My advice is enjoy your cruise and if you don’t want to have anything to do with the duck, don’t and instead going to do something that brings you fun and happiness.Cheers

It’s not clear when Ducky will join the Carnival fleet, but it’s a feature that can obviously be rolled out very quickly.

Jumping on the duck bandwagon

The fact that Carnival has decided to create a duck-themed mascot for their cruise fleet shows their position on the popular duck-hiding hobby onboard.

Many guests like to hide small ducks on their cruises for other guests to find, often with a tag attached encouraging photos to be shared on different social media groups.

Some people have even, in the past, added their Venmo or other payment details asking for tips – don’t worry, this is rare and most people just take part for fun!

There has often been misinformation spread about ducks on Carnival cruises, with some guests hearing that ducks would be removed by crew.

Some cruise lines do remove ducks, but Carnival allows guests to take part.
