Norovirus Outbreak Confirmed Aboard Holland America Cruise Ship With Over 70 Passengers Impacted

Passengers aboard Holland America Line’s Zuiderdam have been struck by a norovirus outbreak during a 10-night Caribbean sailing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed.

HAL MS Zuiderdam

The outbreak was first reported to the CDC on 11th December 2024, while the ship was docked in Aruba.

As of the latest reports, the CDC has recorded 74 passengers of the 1,923 onboard as being ill, as well as four of the ship’s 757 crew members, experiencing symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, abdominal cramping, headache, and fever.

This accounts for less than 4% of the vessel’s guests.

The 82,305-gross-ton ship departed from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale on 4th December and returned to Florida on 14th December after completing its itinerary, which included stops at Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, Bonaire, Curaçao, and Aruba.

Norovirus, described by the CDC as “the leading cause of vomiting and diarrhoea, and foodborne illness in the United States,” is highly contagious.

In response to the outbreak, the cruise line implemented its outbreak prevention and response plan, which includes isolating affected individuals and increasing cleaning and disinfection measures.

“We initiated enhanced sanitation protocols in conjunction with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to minimize further transmission.”

Holland America spokesperson

The outbreak also delayed the Zuiderdam’s next sailing, a 7-day Eastern Caribbean cruise scheduled to depart on 14th December.

Passengers were informed of the delay, as additional sanitisation measures were performed between voyages to prevent further spread of the virus.

How norovirus spreads and prevention tips

Although highly contagious, the CDC reports only 12 norovirus outbreaks on US-based cruise ships in 2024, indicating that most voyages remain unaffected by the illness.

This, however, is not the first such incident for Holland America Line in 2024. Earlier in the year, Koningsdam experienced a similar outbreak affecting 98 passengers and 12 crew members on a Hawaiian and French Polynesian sailing.

Cruise ships are particularly susceptible to norovirus due to close living quarters and shared dining spaces.

The CDC advises passengers to wash their hands thoroughly and frequently, clean and disinfect surfaces, ensure proper food preparation, and wash laundry with hot water to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Norovirus can continue to be contagious for up to two weeks after symptoms subside, which is why thorough cleaning measures between cruises are critical.

Other cruise lines have also dealt with recurring outbreaks this year, including P&O Cruises’ Ventura, which saw several instances of illness affecting hundreds of passengers across multiple voyages.

Passengers embarking on future sailings are encouraged to take precautions to protect themselves and others while onboard.

Medical Emergency Causes Significant Delays for Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas in Galveston

Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas experienced an eight-hour delay returning to her homeport in Galveston, Texas, on Sunday, 15th December 2024, due to a medical emergency requiring an unscheduled evacuation.

Aerial shot of the world's largest cruise ship, Harmony of the Seas.

The delay impacted both the debarkation of the prior sailing and the embarkation of the ship’s next voyage.

The delay stemmed from a medical emergency involving an elderly passenger on Friday, 13th December, two days before the scheduled return to Galveston.

The passenger, an elderly woman on her first cruise, showed symptoms of what might have been a stroke or aneurysm, prompting the ship’s medical team to order an emergency evacuation.

At the time, Harmony of the Seas had already left Cozumel, the final port of call on its itinerary, and was sailing back to Texas. Due to high winds, a helicopter evacuation was deemed unsafe, forcing the ship to reverse course back to Cozumel.

Harmony of the Seas could not divert to Cancun, which was closer, because the massive Oasis-class ship could not be accommodated at Cancun’s facilities.

The woman was successfully evacuated in Cozumel for medical care, but the time needed to complete the process caused a significant delay in the ship’s return to Galveston.

There are no further updates on her condition as of now, though her family has set up a GoFundMe account to assist with the expected costs of stabilizing her condition and transporting her back to the U.S.

Guests scheduled to board Harmony of the Seas for her next 7-night Western Caribbean sailing were notified of the delay and updated check-in times.

Originally, embarkation was planned to begin at 11 am, but the new schedule asked guests to arrive nine hours later than their originally selected check-in time.

  • Earliest check-in: Guests who originally had an 11 am check-in time were asked to arrive at 8 pm
  • Latest check-in: Guests with a 2 pm check-in time were asked to arrive at 11 pm

The cruise terminal remained closed until 8 pm to allow time for debarking passengers to leave the ship and avoid congestion at the terminal and parking facilities.

Compensation for guests

Royal Caribbean is compensating passengers affected by the delay with the following:

  • Onboard credits (amount varies by stateroom category)
  • Prorated refunds for pre-cruise purchases of Wi-Fi packages and drink packages impacted by the late embarkation

To accommodate late arrivals, dining venues onboard Harmony of the Seas, including the main dining rooms and Windjammer buffet, remained open longer than usual to ensure all guests could enjoy a meal after boarding.

Despite the delay, no changes are being made to the ship’s itinerary, which will visit Roatan, Costa Maya, and Cozumel as originally planned.

While shorter delays are not uncommon in cruise operations, extended delays like this are rare.

Recently, Carnival Liberty experienced a similarly long delay in New Orleans due to a combination of events, including a medical emergency, an equipment issue, and a weather delay.

The delay of Harmony of the Seas highlights the complexities of managing medical emergencies at sea, especially for large ships like those in the Oasis class.

While the inconvenience is significant for incoming passengers, Royal Caribbean’s proactive communication, onboard credits, and the decision to keep the ship’s itinerary unchanged have been well-received by most travellers.

And of course, the most important thing is the welfare of the passenger who required emergency evacuation – hopefully they are able to make a full recovery.

Cruise Passenger Shares Warning After Appendix Rupture on Honeymoon Cruise

A recent Reddit post shared a heartbreaking story of a passenger whose appendix ruptured on just the second day of the honeymoon getaway.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest news and deals: Sign Up

After seeing the medical bill, the couple realized a valuable lesson that was shared on the social media platform.

Medical emergency on cruise travel insurance

No one plans to have a medical emergency while on a cruise.  After all, it’s a time of rest and relaxation.  The medical facility on a cruise ship is the last place a person expects to be.

But a Reddit user found themselves in this exact situation after severe stomach pain flared up just two days into the sailing.

“Currently sailing to the Bahamas when I got severe and sudden stomach pain. The medical center was closed and they had an “emergencies only” line. I waited 4 hours before calling it because I couldn’t tell if it was an emergency,” Redditor jellocore posted.

“Not only did I have appendicitis, my appendix ruptured. This is very serious and I will be in the hospital for at least a week. The ship doctors and nurses are phenomenal, and I feel very cared for.”

The couple ended up having to get off the ship in order to get the care that was needed, and the cruise passenger had surgery right away.

“I learned a very valuable lesson this trip: always buy travel insurance,” the user stated.  “Not only are we out our entire honeymoon budget, our savings have been wiped clean as the doctors bill was over $10k.”

Comments flooded into the post as well wishes were sent to the couple.

The poster replied to one of the comments stating they were glad to be alive and hoped to build the savings back up over time.

Other advice was given in the aftermath of the medical bills with one comment stating, “Did you check with your private insurance if they cover you while traveling? Some don’t and some do so it’s worth a look to see if you have coverage.”

One user recommended checking credit card coverage as well, stating “If you used a premium or travel credit card to pay for the cruise, check to see whether they offer complementary travel medical insurance or at least some related coverage.”

To this comment the OP replied that a debit card was used to pay for the cruise but that they would definitely pay with a credit for the next trip.

I always recommend getting cruise travel insurance.  Even if you can find a great deal online, it’s the medical emergency situations that can really break the bank.

Some don’t buy insurance if they buy a cruise for under $500, thinking that if they can’t make the cruise it’s not a huge loss.  But if a medical situation arises and you have to be airlifted from a cruise ship, you’re looking at a bill of $50,000 and up to $100,000 just for that service alone.

Since a vacation is all about getting some peace and quiet away from home, trip insurance makes sure the financial side can give you some peace of mind.

This travel insurance is the kind of thing you hope you never have to use, but if you do, you sure are glad you have it.

Here are some ideas…

There are lots of cruise gadgets and gizmos which are really practical to have. Even the most regular cruisers might not have seen some of these, but they’re all really useful gifts. Take a look at these cruise essential gifts.

SailPak Cruise Hamper

The ultimate cruise gift, I was thrilled to receive this bumper hamper of cruise accessories from SailPak. It has everything you need to enjoy your cruise including a tote bag, magnetic hooks, towel bands, seasickness patches and so much more!

Cruise Lanyards

These lanyards have a waterproof cruise card holder as well as a retractable reel for making it easy to swipe or scan your card as needed. They come with a nice gift box too, so they make an excellent gift.

Hanging Toiletry Bag

Space can be limited in a cruise ship cabin, so this wash bag is perfect to take on a cruise thanks to the hook and space-saving design. It has loads of compartments which are all easy to access with the bag hanging from the towel rail or coat hook in your cabin bathroom.

The Cruise Planner

This planner is jam-packed full of info to help you plan your cruise to a tee. It has space for you to add all your own details so that you can take it with you when you travel. I have a copy of this and I’d definitely recommend it to anyone going on a cruise.

Sunrise Alarm Clock

This sunrise alarm clock is a fantastic gift for anyone who likes to cruise in an interior stateroom. It’ll gradually fill the room with a gentle sunrise glow at the time you set, so you don’t end up waking up in the morning wondering if it’s 3 am or 8 am. A fantastic option if you want cruise ship gifts for someone going on their first cruise, too.

Gorilla Hooks

These magnetic hooks are super strong. They stick to your cabin walls (which are always metal) and hold your handbags, hats, coats, swimming goggles and everything else! Since I started parking these, I wouldn’t cruise without them.

Full-Face Snorkel Mask

If you’re buying a present for someone going on a Caribbean cruise then this is ideal. For the price of hiring a mask and snorkel, you can get them this full face snorkel mask which is not only more comfortable than a traditional snorkel set, it also gives 180-degree views. There’s even a mount to attach an underwater camera, should you desire.

Cruise Holiday Countdown Chalkboard

If you know someone who has a cruise booked, buy them this lovely hanger so that they can mark the days remaining. They’ll get more and more excited as the number gets smaller, and think fondly of you for reminding them of the exciting times ahead – one of the more simple gifts for cruisers and yet oh so effective.

Towel Clips

Sometimes, it can be really windy at sea so towel clips are a must for any cruiser. There are some really cool novelty ones available, which also makes finding your sunbed much easier when everyone has the same cruise ship towel.

But, before you go ahead and buy the pineapple ones, you might want to read this article: What do pineapples mean on a cruise?

And if you already know what they mean and you’re pranking a friend…this is definitely a good option for funny cruise gifts.

Waterproof Phone Pouch

This is a brilliant invention. Not only does this waterproof case protect your phone from water and sand, but you can also use your phone while it’s in the case. Safe for depths of up to 30 metres, you can turn your phone into an underwater camera. It comes with a handy lanyard so you can’t lose it in deep water.

Mini Binoculars

A pair of binoculars are great to take on a cruise so that you can admire the distant scenery from your balcony. Or, when you spot another ship in the distance and want to know which it is. These binoculars are small enough that you can take them everywhere easily and cheap enough that you won’t mind letting the kids have a go.

GoPro HERO9 Action Camera

I love my GoPro and take it on every cruise. It’s pocket-sized, tough and waterproof. The photo and video quality are both amazing. I use mine for filming cruise ship tours, as even if you have a shaky hand, the image looks smooth thanks to revolutionary self-stabilising technology. There are newer models available if you prefer, but the HERO9 is great value and does everything you need for a cruise.

Cruise Luggage Tag Holders

If you’ve ever faffed around trying to fold a cruise luggage tag into the right shape and staple it to your luggage with only two hands, you’ll know what a challenge it can be. These cruise luggage tags are a game-changer. Not only do they make affixing the labels so much easier; they’re also more secure and weatherproof.

Tip: Different cruise lines have different sized luggage labels, so be sure to get the right one for your cruise.

Travel Alarm Clock

Cruise cabins have no clocks in them, and the time zone can often change overnight as you sail into different time zones. Relying on your phone can be problematic as sometimes they update the time themselves and sometimes they don’t, so you can never be sure. That’s why I recommend taking a travel alarm clock.

This small travel alarm clock also tells you the temperature and what day it is, as that’s another thing that’s easy to forget on a cruise!

Packing Cubes

Anyone who’s tried packing cubes swears by them and would never go back to packing everything together. These cubes are thicker than most packing cubes that you’ll find and are waterproof. Say hello to being organised when you pack for your cruise.

Cruise gift cards

If you want to get a really special gift, you could gift someone a cruise. Cruise gift cards are available to buy, so that they can choose their own dates and itinerary for their trip.

Carnival Cruise Gift Cards

Carnival gift cards are available to buy. US residents can purchase physical gift cards, and international customers can purchase online gift cards with a value of $100 to $1000.

See Carnival gift cards

Princess Cruises Gift Cards

Princess Cruises gift cards come as traditional plastic gift cards or e-gift cards which are sent by email. You can choose any value between $25 and $2000.

See Princess Cruises gift cards

Celebrity Cruises Gift Cards

Celebrity cruises gift certificates are available only for on-board credit in multiples of $25, or a speciality restaurant credit which costs $45.

See Celebrity Cruises shipboard credit certificates

Whilst giving the gift of a cruise can seem like a nice idea, cruise gift cards and vouchers can have pitfalls that come with being tied to a particular cruise line and its terms and conditions.

If you want to gift a cruise, you could instead opt for a handmade card or gift certificate detailing your promise. Or instead of on-board credit, you could gift dollars or Euros in cash which could be used to pay a balance on board or be used to spend in ports of call.

To wrap up…

Once you’ve chosen your perfect cruise gift, continue with the theme with some nautical gift wrap or a cute cruise ship greetings card.

Nautical Gift Wrap

This cute ocean-themed gift wrapping paper has various designs including anchors, whales, ships, ships wheels, stars and waves. It’s of premium quality so it’s not easy to rip.

Pop-Up Cruise Ship Greeting Card

If you’re looking for a greeting card with the wow factor, then this one is guaranteed to cause a splash. Perfect for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries or any other special occasion, this handmade card has an intricate pop-up cruise ship.

What Is A French Balcony On A Cruise Ship?

When it comes to cruising, there’s something truly captivating about the allure of a French balcony. This unique feature on a cruise ship offers a luxurious experience that sets it apart from traditional balconies. But what exactly is a French balcony, and why is it so enticing?

A French balcony on a cruise ship is a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door that opens to a railing, mimicking the feel of a veranda. However, unlike a veranda, passengers cannot step outside onto the balcony itself. Instead, the French balcony provides an open-air space and breathtaking views without sacrificing valuable cabin space.

French balconies are commonly found on river cruise ships, where space is at a premium. They offer passengers the perfect blend of comfort and elegance, allowing them to enjoy the surrounding scenery while still enjoying the comforts of their cabin.

Key Takeaways:

  • A French balcony on a cruise ship is a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door that opens to a railing.
  • Passengers cannot step outside onto the balcony itself.
  • French balconies are commonly found on river cruise ships.
  • They provide breathtaking views and a luxurious experience without sacrificing cabin space.
  • French balconies offer the perfect blend of comfort and elegance.

What is the Difference Between a French Balcony and a Veranda?

When it comes to cruise ship balconies, there are two popular options: the French balcony and the veranda. While they may seem similar at first glance, there are some key differences between the two.

French Balcony

A French balcony on a cruise ship is a balcony that cannot be stepped out onto. It consists of a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door that opens to a railing, allowing for fresh air and the feel of a veranda. However, passengers cannot actually step outside onto the balcony itself. A French balcony is a space-saving design that provides passengers with breathtaking views and a luxurious experience.

Veranda

On the other hand, a veranda is a true balcony that can be stepped out onto. It typically features a small table and chairs, allowing passengers to sit outside and enjoy the view. Verandas offer a more traditional balcony experience, providing passengers with the option to step outside and fully immerse themselves in the surroundings.

French Balcony Veranda
Cannot be stepped out onto Can be stepped out onto
Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door Typically features a small table and chairs
No outside space Allows passengers to fully immerse themselves in the surroundings

Both the French balcony and the veranda have their own benefits and appeal. It ultimately comes down to personal preference and what type of experience passengers are looking for. Whether it’s the elegance and space-saving design of a French balcony or the ability to step outside and enjoy the view on a veranda, both options offer a unique and enjoyable cruise experience.

Cabin Types on River Cruise Ships

When it comes to river cruise ships, passengers have a variety of cabin types to choose from. Each cabin category offers a unique experience and level of comfort. Let’s take a closer look at the different cabin types available:

Riverview Cabins

Riverview cabins are located on the ship’s lowest deck and feature small windows below the waterline. While these cabins may not offer as much natural light or expansive views as other types, they provide a cozy and intimate setting.

French Balcony Cabins

French balcony cabins are the most common cabin on river cruise ships. They feature floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open to a railing, giving passengers the feeling of a veranda without stepping outside. French balcony cabins are perfect for those who want to enjoy the surrounding views while staying comfortably indoors.

Veranda Cabins

Veranda cabins are similar to traditional balconies on ocean cruise ships. Passengers can step outside onto a narrow balcony and enjoy the fresh air and scenic views. These cabins are ideal for those who prefer a more open-air experience and want to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of the river and surrounding landscapes.

Suites

If you’re looking for a more spacious and luxurious option, suites are the way to go. Suites on river cruise ships provide additional living space, separate sleeping areas, and sometimes multiple types of balconies. They offer the ultimate indulgence and are perfect for those who want extra comfort and relaxation during their cruise.

With these different cabin types available, passengers can choose the option that best suits their preferences and desires for their river cruise experience.

Cabin Type Description
Riverview Cabins Located on the lowest deck with small windows below the waterline
French Balcony Cabins Feature floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open to a railing
Veranda Cabins Similar to traditional balconies, allowing passengers to step outside
Suites Spacious and luxurious cabins with separate living and sleeping areas

Advantages of a French Balcony

A French balcony on a cruise ship offers several advantages to passengers. Firstly, it provides the opportunity to enjoy fresh air by opening the balcony door. The sliding glass door allows a refreshing breeze to enter the cabin, creating a pleasant and invigorating environment. Passengers can experience the feeling of being outdoors while still enjoying the comforts of their cabin.

Another advantage of a French balcony is the ability to enjoy the view from the comfort of the bed. By opening the curtains and leaning out of the balcony, passengers can admire the breathtaking scenery without having to leave their cozy sleeping area. This convenience allows for a truly immersive experience, perfect for relaxation and enjoying the beauty of the surroundings.

Furthermore, a French balcony is particularly beneficial during winter cruises. Passengers can appreciate the stunning views while staying warm inside their cabin. This is especially appealing for those who prefer to avoid the cold temperatures but still want to experience the mesmerizing landscapes and picturesque destinations river cruises offer.

Overall, a French balcony provides a comfortable and enjoyable way to experience the surrounding views on a cruise ship. It combines the benefits of fresh air, convenient viewing, and a cozy cabin atmosphere, making it a popular choice for passengers seeking a luxurious and immersive cruise experience.

Advantages of a French Balcony
Allows for fresh air and a refreshing breeze
Enables passengers to enjoy the view from the bed
Provides a cozy cabin experience during winter cruises

French Balconies on Viking River Cruises

When it comes to cruising with French balconies, Viking River Cruises is a top choice for many travelers. Known for their elegant ships and exceptional service, Viking offers French balcony cabins that provide passengers with a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

The size of the French balcony cabins on Viking River Cruises may vary depending on the ship, but they typically range from 122 to 150 square feet. While slightly smaller than their standard staterooms, which feature half-height picture windows, these cabins still offer ample space and all the necessary amenities.

The highlight of Viking’s French balcony cabins is the floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that provide access to the balcony railing. With a simple slide, passengers can open up their cabin to fresh air and stunning views, immersing themselves in the beauty of the surrounding landscapes. Whether it’s the picturesque vineyards along the Rhine or the charming towns along the Danube, guests can enjoy the scenery from the comfort of their cabin.

French balconies are a signature feature of Viking River Cruises. Designed to enhance the overall experience, these cabins offer a unique blend of luxury and convenience. Passengers can indulge in the allure of a veranda-style cabin, complete with fresh air and beautiful views, all while cruising in style with Viking.

So, if you’re looking for a river cruise experience that combines luxury, comfort, and breathtaking views, consider booking a French balcony cabin with Viking River Cruises. With their impeccable service and exceptional amenities, you’re sure to have a memorable and enjoyable journey along the world’s most picturesque waterways.

Other Names for a French Balcony

A French balcony on a cruise ship is known by its original name and referred to by various other terms. These alternative names add a touch of linguistic variety and imagination to the concept of a French balcony, providing passengers with different ways to describe this unique feature.

One commonly used alternative name for a French balcony is a Juliet balcony. This term originates from the famous balcony scene in William Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet,” where Juliet appears on a balcony to speak to Romeo. The term “Juliet balcony” has been adopted to describe the type of balcony that cannot be stepped onto but allows passengers to lean out and enjoy the view, just as Juliet did in the play.

Other names for a French balcony include open-air, panorama, false, and balconette. These names are used interchangeably, and all refer to the same type of balcony that provides passengers with the experience of leaning out and admiring the surrounding scenery.

“A French balcony by any other name would still provide the same delightful view.”

French Balcony Names:

Name Description

French Balcony Vs Juliet Balcony

Regarding cruise ship balconies, two terms often come up French balcony and Juliet balcony. Although they refer to the same concept, the two have some subtle differences.

A French balcony on a cruise ship is a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door that opens to a railing. This design creates the feeling of a veranda, providing fresh air and breathtaking views. Passengers can lean out and admire the scenery but not step outside onto the balcony itself.

On the other hand, a Juliet balcony is also a floor-to-ceiling door that opens inwards to reveal a railing. This type of balcony is named after the famous balcony scene in Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet,” where Juliet is often depicted looking out of a balcony. While the term “Juliet” balcony is often used in theater performances, it has also caught on in the cruise ship industry to describe this type of balcony.

While French balcony and Juliet balcony are often used interchangeably on cruise ships, it’s essential to understand the slight differences in terminology. Ultimately, both types of balconies offer passengers a fantastic way to experience the views and create lasting memories during their cruise.

Final Thoughts

The French balcony on a cruise ship offers passengers a unique and immersive experience. Its floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open to a railing, providing fresh air and breathtaking views. While it may not offer an actual outdoor space, the French balcony still allows passengers to enjoy the feel of a veranda and take in the beauty of their surroundings.

With their space-saving design, French balconies are popular on river cruise ships. They offer a luxurious and comfortable experience, allowing passengers to admire the scenery and relax in their cabins. Whether opting for a French balcony or another cabin category, passengers will surely create cherished memories during their cruise.

So, if you’re seeking a cruise experience that combines elegance, comfort, and stunning vistas, consider choosing a French balcony cabin. Indulge in the allure of this unique feature and enjoy a truly memorable journey along the rivers.

What Is Clear Airport Security And Should You Get It?

Clear airport security is an expedited security program that aims to streamline the TSA screening process for frequent travelers. Using biometrics like fingerprint and iris scans, Clear automates identity verification and allows passengers to bypass the traditional ID check at security checkpoints.

Clear Airport Security

One of the main benefits of Clear airport security is the time saved. With this program, travelers can skip the long lines and proceed directly to the security screening area, potentially saving valuable time at the airport. Furthermore, Clear members are also eligible for random ID checks introduced by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration, further enhancing security measures.

Expedited Security Program

However, Clear does come with a cost. The annual membership fee for Clear is $189, which may only be appealing to some travelers. It is also important to note that Clear is only available at some airports, limiting its usefulness for those who frequently visit non-participating airports.

Regarding discounts, Clear offers potential benefits to loyalty program members, such as Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus. These members may be eligible for discounted or even free Clear membership as part of their loyalty rewards.

How Does Clear Work

Clear is an expedited security screening program that aims to streamline the airport experience for travelers. The process begins with identity verification, where members provide their personal information and biometric data, such as fingerprints and iris scans.

Once enrolled in Clear, members can bypass the regular security line and proceed directly to a designated Clear lane. At this point, their biometric information is quickly verified, granting them access to the security screening area. This efficient process eliminates waiting in long lines, saving valuable time at the airport.

Moreover, Clear members may also have the option to be enrolled in TSA PreCheck, a trusted traveler program offered by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. This additional benefit allows Clear users to enjoy expedited screening, where they can keep their shoes, light jackets, belts on, and their laptops and liquids in their bags.

In summary, Clear utilizes advanced biometric authentication to verify members’ identities and grant them expedited access to the security screening area. With the option to enroll in TSA PreCheck, Clear members can experience an even smoother and faster airport journey, ensuring a stress-free travel experience.

Random ID Checks

The TSA recently added the addition of Random ID Checks due to several security concerns. Clear members may be asked to present their identification for verification during these checks. While these ID checks are random, they offer an extra layer of security to bolster the overall effectiveness of the Clear airport security system.

While these random ID checks may slightly slow down the process for some Clear members, they ultimately contribute to a safer and more secure airport environment. The inclusion of such checks ensures that everyone who uses the Clear line is subject to thorough scrutiny, reducing the likelihood of security breaches.

Comparing Clear to TSA PreCheck

Clear and TSA PreCheck are two popular programs that offer expedited security screening to travelers, but they have some key differences and similarities.

The main difference is in the ID checking process. With Clear, you can skip the security line completely by verifying your ID and boarding pass through biometric technology. This means you can breeze through security without even having to show physical identification except during the new random checks. On the other hand, with TSA Precheck, you still need to present your physical ID, but you can enjoy a shorter security line and relaxed screening requirements.

Both Clear and TSA PreCheck memberships offer expedited security screening, resulting in shorter wait times and a smoother travel experience. However, it’s important to note that Clear and TSA PreCheck are complementary programs. While Clear allows you to skip the security line completely, it does not exempt you from the standard security screening by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). TSA PreCheck, on the other hand, provides a faster and more convenient security screening process, but you still have to go through a security line.

For frequent travelers, having both Clear and TSA PreCheck memberships can be highly beneficial. With Clear, you can bypass the long ID checking line process, while with TSA PreCheck, you can enjoy a shorter security line. This combination can significantly reduce the time and hassle associated with airport security, allowing you to reach your destination more efficiently.

Clear and Clear Sports offer expedited entry options, but they have distinct differences and cater to different settings. Clear is a trusted way to bypass the security lines at airports. By using biometric technology, Clear allows you to verify your ID and boarding pass seamlessly, skipping the need to physically present your identification. With Clear, you can breeze through security without any hassle.

On the other hand, Clear Sports is specifically designed for sports stadiums. It is a free membership offered at select stadiums, enabling fans to enjoy expedited entry into games. With Clear Sports, you can skip the regular entrance lines and access a dedicated Clear lane, making your stadium experience more efficient and enjoyable.

Enrolling in Clear Sports is a simple process. Download the Clear app, which serves as the Clear and Clear Sports memberships platform. Sign up for Clear Sports through the app and complete the necessary information. Once enrolled, when you visit a participating stadium, head to the Clear lane and verify your identity using biometric technology. This allows you to bypass the usual entry process and get to your seats faster.

How you can enroll in Clear

Enrolling in Clear is a straightforward process that allows travelers to bypass long security lines and enjoy a hassle-free airport experience. There are two options for enrollment: online or in-person at a Clear airport location.

To sign up online, visit the Clear website and follow the instructions to create an account. You must provide personal information, such as your name, email address, and contact details. Once your account is created, you can proceed with the enrollment process.

For in-person enrollment, you can visit a Clear airport location. You don’t need to make an appointment, but it is best to allocate extra time to complete the enrollment process at the airport. During in-person enrollment, you must validate your identity by presenting a valid ID, such as a driver’s license or passport. Additionally, biometric data, such as fingerprints and iris scans, will be collected to ensure a secure identity verification process.

Whichever method you choose, completing the enrollment process will grant you access to Clear lanes, allowing you to skip the regular security lines and proceed directly to the screening checkpoint. This saves you valuable time and enables a smoother start to your journey.

Summary of Events

Scientific research on the Titanic wreckage has shed light on the events leading up to the ship’s demise. The ship’s hull was discovered to contain weak rivets and slits, compromising its structural integrity. These findings have been corroborated by news reports from the time, revealing the significance of these factors in the ship’s sinking.

The weak rivets and slits in the Titanic’s hull were instrumental in allowing the frigid seawater to infiltrate the ship’s compartments rapidly. As the Titanic began to take on water, the hull became increasingly compromised, ultimately causing the ship to sink. This realization has prompted further investigation into the ship’s construction and maintenance, serving as a cautionary tale for future maritime endeavors.

In conclusion, the sinking of the Titanic serves as a poignant reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from structural flaws and the immense power of nature. As highlighted by scientific research and historical news reports, the weak rivets and slits in the hull played a significant role in the ship’s demise. This tragic event continues to capture the imagination of people worldwide and remains a pivotal moment in maritime history.

Timeline of the Sinking

The sinking of the Titanic took place on the evening of April 14, 1912. As the ship sailed through the North Atlantic Ocean, it collided with an iceberg, triggering a series of events leading to its tragic demise. The impact of the iceberg caused significant damage to the Titanic’s hull, compromising its structural integrity.

The ship began to take on water rapidly over several hours, starting in the late evening. Despite efforts to evacuate and save as many passengers as possible, the Titanic sank in the early morning of April 15, 1912. The loss of over 1,500 lives marked a devastating chapter in maritime history. The sinking of the Titanic continues to serve as a reminder of the need for safety and precautionary measures in oceanic travel.

Preparations for Departure

The preparations for the departure of the Titanic were meticulous and extensive. On April 10, 1912, the luxurious passenger ship set sail on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England. The port of departure was bustling with activity as the crew made final arrangements before departure.

Before embarking on the historic journey, the Titanic underwent numerous checks to ensure its seaworthiness. The ship’s hull compartments were sealed to make it virtually unsinkable, a claim that would tragically be proven false. The crew also conducted safety drills and lifeboat exercises to prepare for emergencies.

The departure preparations included loading essential supplies such as food, water, and coal for propulsion. The stowing of cargo and luggage was meticulously organized, ensuring the comfort of both first-class and third-class passengers.

As the departure date approached, last-minute checks were carried out on the ship’s systems, including the radio operator maintaining a 24-hour watch for incoming messages. Despite several warnings of icebergs along the route, the Titanic’s crew remained confident in the ship’s ability to navigate through any danger.

Little did they know the Titanic’s departure marked the beginning of one of the most tragic sinkings in maritime history. The ship’s collision with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 14, 1912, shattered the confidence in its supposedly unsinkable nature and claimed the lives of more than 1,500 passengers and crew.

It wasn’t until 1985 that the wreckage of the Titanic was discovered on the ocean floor, over 70 years after its sinking. The sinking’s massive scale and tragic nature have made it a significant event in modern history, attracting the attention of maritime historians, conspiracy theorists, and the general public alike.

As the sister ship of the Olympic-class ships and the shining symbol of luxury and opulence, the Titanic’s preparations for departure marked the beginning of a journey that would forever be etched in our collective memory.

Titanic on its Maiden Voyage

The Titanic’s maiden voyage commenced on April 10, 1912, from the port of Southampton, England. This grand and historic journey was destined for New York City, with planned stops in Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown (now known as Cobh), Ireland. The ship’s departure marked the beginning of what would tragically become one of the most infamous events in maritime history.

The Titanic, often called the “Millionaire’s Special,” was a luxurious passenger ship designed to cater to the wealthy elite. On board were notable passengers such as John Jacob Astor, Benjamin Guggenheim, and Molly Brown, all adding to the ship’s glamorous reputation.

The first stop on the voyage was Cherbourg, where passengers embarked and disembarked amidst much fanfare. After a brief stay, the Titanic continued its journey to Queenstown, where additional passengers joined the ship before venturing into the vast Atlantic Ocean.

High expectations and excitement surrounded the maiden voyage of the Titanic, as this brand-new ship was hailed as a marvel of engineering and opulence. Unfortunately, the tragic events that unfolded on April 14, 1912, forever changed the course of maritime history, leaving a profound and lasting impact on the world’s collective memory.

Disaster Strikes: The Tragic Sinking of the Titanic

As the Titanic made its way through the Atlantic Ocean, iceberg warnings were received throughout April 14, 1912. These warnings, primarily from nearby ships, alerted the crew to icebergs in the “Iceberg Alley.”

Despite these warnings, the Titanic continued to sail at full speed, confident in its reputation as an unsinkable ship. However, tragedy struck later that evening. At 11:40 PM, the ship collided with a massive iceberg, tearing open several of its hull compartments.

Immediately upon impact, the ship’s crew sounded the alarm and started to take immediate action. Captain Edward Smith ordered the ship’s wireless telegraph operator to send distress signals to nearby vessels. However, some of these signals were not received due to various factors, such as radio operator workload and super refraction.

As the seriousness of the situation became apparent, lifeboats were prepared for evacuation. However, there were not enough lifeboats to accommodate all the passengers and crew on board. This, along with a lack of proper emergency drills, contributed to a chaotic and tragic sinking.

Ultimately, the Titanic sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912, taking the lives of over 1,500 people. The disaster has since become one of the most infamous and tragic sinkings in maritime history, prompting significant changes in maritime regulations for the safety of all future ocean liners.

Final Minutes and Impact of the Sinking

In the final minutes of April 14, 1912, the Titanic’s fate was sealed. After receiving several iceberg warnings, the luxury passenger ship sailed at full speed through the treacherous waters of Iceberg Alley. At 11:40 PM, disaster struck as the Titanic collided with a massive iceberg.

The impact immediately tore open multiple hull compartments, rapidly causing the ship to take in water. Panic and chaos ensued as the crew sounded the alarm and initiated evacuation protocols. However, the shortage of lifeboats became painfully evident.

With only enough lifeboats to accommodate a fraction of the passengers and crew onboard, a devastating loss of life was inevitable. The lack of proper emergency drills further compounded the tragic situation. Amid the chaos, acts of heroism and selflessness were witnessed, but ultimately, the sinking of the Titanic claimed the lives of more than 1,500 people.

The immediate aftermath of the sinking brought shock and grief to the world. News of the tragic event spread rapidly, captivating public attention and prompting an outpouring of sympathy. The sinking of the Titanic forever altered maritime history, a stark reminder of the consequences of complacency and the importance of safety measures at sea.

Design Flaws in the Ship

The sinking of the RMS Titanic, the luxurious passenger ship famously known as the “unsinkable ship,” was a tragedy that shocked the world. This disaster was primarily caused by several design flaws that significantly impacted the ship’s ability to withstand the collision with the iceberg.

One of the main design flaws was the inadequate hull compartments. The Titanic was divided into 16 compartments, each separated by walls that were supposed to prevent flooding. However, these compartments were partially sealed at the top, allowing water to spill over from one compartment to another. When the iceberg punctured multiple compartments, the water quickly overwhelmed the ship’s ability to stay afloat.

Furthermore, the materials used in the construction of the Titanic needed to be better. Despite being a massive ship, the hull was made of relatively thin 2.5cm double-plank steel. This was not enough to withstand the impact of the collision, leading to extensive damage and flooding.

Additionally, the ship was equipped with insufficient lifeboats, only enough to accommodate about half of the passengers and crew. This lack of adequate lifeboats significantly compromised the chances of survival for those on board.

Lastly, the safety features on the Titanic were different from the standards required for a ship of its size. The 24-hour radio watch needed to be adequately enforced, and iceberg warnings from nearby ships were not heeded. These shortcomings further contributed to the chaotic sinking.

In conclusion, the tragic sinking of the Titanic resulted from design flaws that manifested in the inadequate hull compartments, the use of subpar materials, the lack of sufficient lifeboats, and the inadequate safety features. These flaws ultimately hampered the ship’s ability to withstand the collision with the iceberg, leading to one of the most notorious sinkings in modern history.

Inadequate Lookout and Safety Procedures

The inadequate lookout and safety procedures on the Titanic played a significant role in the ship’s tragic sinking. This safety feature needed to be adequately enforced despite being equipped with a 24-hour radio watch. As a result, iceberg warnings from nearby ships were not heeded, depriving the crew of crucial information that could have prevented the collision.

Additionally, the lookouts on the Titanic needed to be more vigilant in maintaining a proper watch. On the fateful night of the sinking, the crew failed to spot the iceberg until it was too late. This lack of attention and awareness significantly contributed to the disaster.

Furthermore, safety protocols should have been addressed throughout the voyage. For instance, the Titanic was designed to conduct regular iceberg patrols, but this practice should have been addressed. Had these patrols been carried out diligently, the crew may have been able to identify the iceberg field known as “Iceberg Alley” and take preventive measures.

Overall, the inadequate lookout and failure to implement proper safety procedures on board the Titanic resulted in one of the most tragic sinkings in modern history. The consequences of these shortcomings were profound, leading to the loss of numerous lives and forever shaping the way maritime safety is approached.

Poor Weather Conditions

Poor weather conditions greatly influenced the sinking of the Titanic during its ill-fated journey. The ship encountered rough seas, making navigation more challenging and increasing the risk of accidents. Additionally, icebergs in the Atlantic Ocean posed a significant threat to the massive ship.

Despite receiving iceberg warnings from nearby ships, the Titanic maintained a high speed. This decision worsened the situation by reducing the time for the ship to change course or take necessary precautions. The crew may have underestimated the danger posed by the icebergs, leading to a lack of urgency in responding to the warnings.

These poor weather conditions, combined with the decision to maintain high speed despite iceberg warnings, ultimately contributed to the tragic sinking of the Titanic. The collision with an iceberg caused irreparable damage to the ship’s hull compartments, leading to its eventual demise on the ocean floor. The sinking of the Titanic remains one of the most tragic and significant events in maritime history.

The Devastating Aftermath

The sinking of the Titanic on the fateful night of April 15, 1912, profoundly impacted the world. The tragedy captured global attention and resulted in a devastating loss of life. The luxurious passenger ship, deemed unsinkable, struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean, leading to its untimely demise. Despite its massive size and advanced technology, the Titanic ultimately succumbed to the forces of nature, sinking to the ocean floor and becoming one of history’s most tragic sinkings. The aftermath of this disaster raised numerous questions and controversies, fueling conspiracy theories and maritime investigations. The loss of the Titanic continues to serve as a reminder of the fragility of human endeavors and the importance of learning from past mistakes.

Loss of Life

The sinking of the Titanic on April 15, 1912, resulted in a devastating loss of life. The casualty count was tragically high, with approximately 1,500 passengers and crew members perishing in the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Among the victims were individuals from various demographics. Most casualties were third-class passengers, comprising around 75% of the total deaths. This group consisted of immigrants seeking a new life in America. The first-class passengers included a smaller portion of the casualties, roughly 40% losing their lives aboard the luxurious passenger ship.

Notable victims included prominent individuals such as American multimillionaire John Jacob Astor IV, British journalist William Thomas Stead, and American entrepreneur Benjamin Guggenheim. Their deaths, along with the numerous others, added to the tragic scale of the sinking.

The loss of life due to the Titanic sinking remains one of maritime history’s most mourned and remembered events. To this day, the sinking serves as a reminder of the risks and dangers associated with ocean travel, and a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of those on board the ill-fated ship.

Investigation into the Tragedy

Immediately after the tragic sinking of the Titanic, two large-scale official inquiries were conducted to investigate the events leading up to the disaster. These inquiries aimed to shed light on the causes of the sinking, address any potential accountability, and provide recommendations for future maritime safety.

The British Board of Trade led the first official inquiry, led by Lord Mersey. This inquiry focused on gathering testimonies from survivors, crew members, and other witnesses to organize the sequence of events. It also examined the ship’s construction, equipment, and safety procedures. The second official inquiry was conducted by the United States Senate, led by Senator William Alden Smith. This inquiry aimed to determine whether any legal action needed to be taken and examined the activities of the White Star Line, the company that owned the Titanic.

While these inquiries provided some public disclosure of information, they also concealed specific details. Both investigations revealed that the Titanic had received multiple iceberg warnings. Still, crucial information regarding the ship’s limited number of lifeboats and the failure to conduct sufficient lifeboat drills was not fully disclosed. Additionally, the inquiries did not delve deeply into the potential responsibility of wealthy individuals and influential figures, such as J.P. Morgan, who had financial and political ties to the Titanic’s owners.

Overall, these official inquiries provided some insight into the tragedy of the Titanic sinking. However, they also served to protect specific interests and concealed vital information. Through subsequent investigations and the tireless efforts of maritime historians, the full extent of the tragedy and its causes has been brought to light.

Searching for the Wreckage

Searching for the Wreckage of the Titanic has been a lengthy and challenging process, marked by multiple search expeditions and the utilization of advanced underwater technologies. The quest to locate the famous ship began in the years following its tragic sinking on April 15, 1912, in the North Atlantic Ocean.

One of the earliest attempts to find the Titanic wreck occurred in 1912, just months after the disaster. However, this initial effort proved unsuccessful due to limited technology and knowledge about the ocean floor. It wasn’t until 1985 that the wreckage was eventually discovered by a joint US-French expedition led by Dr. Robert Ballard.

The subsequent search expeditions, including those in 1996 and 2000, further explored and documented the site using advanced submersibles, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), and high-resolution sonar systems. These underwater technologies allowed researchers to capture detailed images and video footage of the sunken ship.

Locating and exploring the Titanic wreck presented numerous challenges, from the extreme depth of approximately 12,500 feet to the harsh environmental conditions of the North Atlantic. The hull compartments of the ship have also deteriorated significantly over the years, making it challenging to map the wreckage accurately.

Despite these obstacles, the search efforts have yielded important discoveries and findings. The expeditions have revealed the severe damage to the Titanic’s bow and stern, providing insights into the ship’s chaotic sinking. They have also uncovered artifacts and personal belongings, shedding light on the lives and experiences of those aboard the luxurious passenger ship.

Searching for the wreckage of the Titanic has not only brought closure to the historical mystery but also deepened our understanding of the tragic event. As advancements in underwater technologies continue, there may be even more significant findings to uncover.

A tribute to Ida and Isidor Straus, victims of the Titanic.

Check How Many Bags Are Allowed On Board

You can easily check the carry-on bag policies for different airlines when using Google Flights. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Begin by searching for your desired flight on Google Flights, entering your departure and destination airports and travel dates.

2. Select the specific flight you want once the search results appear.

3. On the flight details page, scroll down to the “Baggage” section. Here, you will find information about the carry-on bag policies for the airline operating the flight.

4. It is important to note that low-cost carriers often charge extra for bags, including carry-ons larger than a backpack or purse. These additional fees can vary between airlines. Cheap fares are not always the best value.

5. Google Flights aims to help users by displaying basic economy flights with a “no luggage” icon. This icon indicates that the fare class does not include any bags. Before booking, Google Flights also reminds users about any baggage limitations or additional fees that may apply.

Here is an example of clicking on the flight showing that one free carry-on is included and options can be purchased. The first checked baggage is $60./

By checking the carry-on bag policies on Google Flights, you can ensure that you are aware of any limitations or extra costs associated with your chosen airline. This helps you make an informed decision and plan accordingly for your trip.

Would You Prefer a Nonstop, One-Stop, or Any Flight?

When searching for flights on Google Flights, you can choose between nonstop, one-stop, or any flight. Each option has advantages and factors to consider at the most convenient or cheapest time.

Nonstop flights are the most convenient option, as they take you directly from your departure airport to your destination without any layovers. This saves you time and eliminates the hassle of navigating through different airports. However, nonstop flights can sometimes be more expensive than flights with layovers.

One-stop flights offer a balance between price and comfort. While you will have a layover at a connecting airport, you can often find cheaper fares than nonstop flights. One-stop flights also give you the opportunity to stretch your legs, grab a meal, or explore the connecting airport during the layover.

Flights with layovers can provide significant cost savings. Although they may require longer travel times, layovers can be a chance to experience a new city or break up a long journey. I think it’s essential to consider the duration of the layover and whether you are comfortable with the potential delays or additional travel time.

Choosing between nonstop, one-stop, or any flight depends on your priorities. If time is of the essence, nonstop flights are the way to go. If you want to save money or are okay with a layover, one-stop or flights with layovers may be more suitable. Google Flights lets you easily compare and select the flight option that fits your needs.

Find Flights From Your Favorite Airline Or Alliance

Google Flights offers a convenient way for users to search for flights from their preferred airline or alliance. By using the “airlines” filter, users can easily find and compare flight options from different airlines on their searched routes.

To search for flights from your preferred airline or alliance, enter your travel details and destination on Google Flights. Once the search results are displayed, navigate to the left-hand side of the page and locate the “airlines” filter. Click on it to expand the options.

You can select your preferred airline or airline alliance in the airline’s filter. This will narrow the search results to only show flights operated by those airlines or alliance members. For example, you can select “Star Alliance” in the airline’s filter if you prefer Star Alliance Airlines.

Using this feature has several benefits. Firstly, it allows users to easily find flights from their preferred airline, ensuring a seamless travel experience with an airline they trust. Also, for frequent flyers, booking flights with their preferred airline or alliance can help them accumulate miles towards travel vouchers or even earn elite status, unlocking exclusive perks and benefits.

Connecting Flights

When booking a flight, sometimes it’s necessary to take a connecting flight to reach your final destination. Connecting flights can offer various options and experiences depending on the airports involved.

One option for connecting flights is to have a layover at a major hub airport. These airports typically have extensive flight networks, making it easier to find connecting flights to various destinations. Helsinki Airport (HEL) is recommended for connecting flights, as it offers smooth connections and a modern, efficient layout.

On the other hand, some airports can pose more challenges for connecting flights. Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) are two examples. These large airports can have complex layouts, requiring travelers to navigate different terminals and potentially undergo stringent security checks.

When choosing a connecting flight, it’s essential to consider factors such as travel time between flights, airport amenities, and ease of navigation. Some airports excel in providing seamless connections with shorter layover times, while others may require more time to navigate.

Get The Best Legroom And Other Seat Perks

When looking to book a flight, it’s not just the price or airline that matters. Other factors can significantly enhance your travel experience, such as legroom, Wi-Fi availability, in-seat charging options, and entertainment offerings. With Google Flights, users can easily score the best legroom and other seat amenities before purchasing a flight.

Google Flights provides comprehensive search results that include essential information about seat amenities. When searching for flights, users can see the legroom, Wi-Fi availability, in-seat charging options, and entertainment offerings for each flight option. This allows travelers to compare and choose flights that meet their preferences and needs.

In the example domestic flight below, the passenger would gain 3 inches of legroom, free Wi-Fi, USB and Power outlets, and Live TV by choosing a different airline. These added flight insights will allow you to know upfront and will help you be an informed flyer.

While price and carrier are essential considerations when choosing a flight, it’s equally important to consider these seat amenities. A long-haul flight can be much more enjoyable with extra legroom, Wi-Fi to stay connected, and in-seat charging options to keep your devices powered up. Entertainment options, such as personal screens or access to streaming services, can also significantly affect your overall comfort and enjoyment during the flight.

So the next time you search for flights, consider not only the price or airline but also the legroom, Wi-Fi availability, in-seat charging options, and entertainment offerings indicated in the search results.

I have learned from flying more frequently that there can be a big difference between one airline and another. Your choice will be felt from start to finish. I have learned this firsthand by flying various budget airlines and others. The differences can be significant. This impacts your customer service quality, gate quality, airplane and seat quality, and more.

A quick example: a budget airline gate often has little to no power or USB outlets to charge your phone. A mainstream airline has one in every gate seat. This often carries over to the seat onboard the plane. These little things quickly add up during a travel day. With Google Flights, you can ensure that you score the best seat amenities for a more comfortable and enjoyable journey.

Searching for flights by cheapest dates on Google Flights is a simple process that can help travelers find the best deals. To do this, start by entering your departure city and destination in the search bar on the Google Flights homepage.

Once the search results appear, you can click the calendar icon on the page’s left. Doing so will create a calendar with prices listed for each day. Prices displayed in green are the lowest available for that specific day. This allows you to quickly identify which dates have the cheapest flights.

Additionally, you can view the cheapest dates by clicking on the date grid option. This will display a monthly view with the lowest prices highlighted in green. It’s a convenient way to see which days offer the best deals.

Visitors can quickly identify and select the cheapest flight dates by utilizing the calendar icon and the date grid. This feature is handy for those with flexible travel plans or those looking to save money on their airfare. Take advantage of these tools on Google Flights to find the best flight deals and save on your travel expenses. Airfare prices can change dramatically by the date. If the date is on or near a major holiday period or during a peak travel time, rates will be higher. Google Flights makes finding deals on a wide variety of flights so much easier.

How To Set A Pricing Alert For Yourself

You can follow these simple steps to set a pricing alert in Google Flights.

First, start by searching for your desired flights on Google Flights. Once the search results appear, browse the options and select the flights that suit your travel plans.

Next, above the search results, you’ll find a toggle button that says “Track prices.” Click on this button to set a pricing alert for the selected flights.

You may be prompted to do so if you need to log in to your Google account. Logging in lets Google Flights send updated pricing alerts directly to your inbox.

Once the pricing alert is set, Google Flights will monitor your flight prices. If there are any changes, such as a drop in fee or an increase, you will receive an email notification alerting you to the new pricing.

Setting a pricing alert in Google Flights is a convenient way to stay updated on any changes in flight prices for your desired itinerary. It helps you to take advantage of the best deals and make more informed decisions about your travel plans, especially during a busy holiday season when expensive flights can be normal. So, next time you search for flights on Google Flights, please set a pricing alert and let the tool work magic for you.

How To Search Multiple Airports At Once

2. Type in the name of the city where you would like to leave or arrive.

3. As you start typing, Google Flights will automatically show suggestions for significant airports in or near that city. Click on one of the suggested airports to select it.

6. Once you have entered all the desired airports, Google Flights will display the available flight options, allowing you to compare prices, flight times, and airlines.

Searching multiple airports at once on Google Flights is an efficient way to find the best flight options for your travel plans. It can be beneficial if you are flexible with your departure or arrival at the airport. You may have yet to realize flights from other major airports nearby would be a good option. Many consumers often don’t think of alternative airports as an option and may be losing money. A little bit of research might make you a more savvy air traveler.

What Airlines Are Not Available?

Unfortunately, a few airlines are not available on Google Flights. One such airline is Southwest Airlines. Its absence is because Southwest Airlines has chosen to refrain from partnering with Google Flights to display their flight information. Therefore, if you are specifically looking for flights with Southwest Airlines, you must visit their official website or use other online travel agencies that include Southwest Airlines in their search results.

Air China, China Eastern, and Thai Airways are also unavailable on Google Flights. Like Southwest Airlines, these airlines have not partnered with Google Flights to showcase their flight options. To find and book flights with these airlines, they should visit their official websites directly or use other third-party travel platforms that include them in their search results.

While Google Flights offers a wide range of flight options from numerous significant airlines, it is essential to remember that not all airlines are accessible through this platform. Checking with official airline websites or other online travel agencies will provide a more comprehensive search for your desired flights.

This feature was officially launched in April 2023 and is available for flights departing from the U.S. on select airlines such as Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian, and Spirit.

To be eligible for a refund, customers must make flight bookings through the “Book on Google” checkout platform and select Google Pay as their payment method. If the flight price decreases after the purchase, customers can request a refund through Google Flights. After your claim is approved, you will receive a refund for the price difference.

This feature provides a sense of security and allows you to take advantage of any price drops after booking your flight. So, if you’re looking to save money and get a refund if prices drop, Google Flights’ Price guarantee is a valuable tool to consider.

How do I cancel a ticket booked through Google Flights?

1. Reach out to the airline or online travel agency: Since Google Flights is a search tool, you must contact the airline or online travel agency directly to cancel your ticket.

2. Familiarize yourself with their cancellation policy: Different airlines and online travel agencies have different cancellation policies. Please read and understand their cancellations, fees, and refund eligibility policies.

3. Follow their cancellation guidelines: Once you have identified the appropriate channel to cancel your ticket, follow their guidelines for cancellation. This may include providing your booking reference number, personal information, and reason for cancellation.

You can cancel your ticket successfully by following these steps and adhering to the policies and guidelines set by the airline or online travel agency. Please remember that Google Flights is a valuable tool for finding flights, but it is important to directly communicate with the relevant parties for any changes or cancellations.

7 Changes Being Made by Virgin Voyages in 2025

Virgin Voyages, an adults only cruise line, is making seven new changes in 2025 to make their cruises even better.

Virgin Voyages adults only cruise ship

Virgin Voyages’ CEO, Nirmal Saverimuttu, sent a letter to First Mates (travel agents) about different ways the cruise line will make their cruises even better in 2025.

Here are the seven changes being made by Virgin going into next year.

Pricing

Virgin Voyages is ditching dynamic pricing on cruises so prices will be more steady and stable. Core pricing will be set to match similar sailings so you can trust that booking early is the best price.

New App

The cruise line is also rolling out a new onboard app. This Phase 1 Beta version will soon be available and will make booking dining easier than ever before.

As Saverimuttu said in the email, booking dining will no longer be like the “Hunger Games”.

Longer Open Windows for Bookings

Virgin is opening new cruises for bookings earlier than ever. The cruise line will open sailings in the spring of 2027 before the end of the year.

Cruises will be available to book at least two years or more in advance.

More Itineraries

Virgin is also adding new itineraries that range from four- to 16-nights in length. They added more than 30 new itineraries that visit 25 new ports.

The cruise line will sail from New York, through the Panama Canal, along the West Coast and in Alaska for the first time.

New Dining Options

Virgin is giving menus in the restaurants and Galley on their cruise ships an update.

This includes a new concept that will debut in Razzle Dazzle on Scarlet Lady called Lucky Lotus.

More Entertainment Variety

Virgin said that they are adding more comedy shows, more live music, and updated shows across their fleet.

Groups

This last change is just for First Mates. Virgin is giving a 10% discount on all Groups and Circles with no minimum number of cabins to lock in the savings.

10 booked cabins in a group will earn a travel conductor cabin or agents can choose a 2% bonus commission starting in early 2025.
