Carnival Conquest Diverts To Rescue Stranded Sailor

Carnival Conquest diverted from its route in the Caribbean on August 26 to rescue the sole occupant of a disabled sailboat while the ship was sailing toward Grenada. Carnival Cruise Line told USA TODAY that the ship received a distress relay from rescue authorities, altered course and safely brought the mariner aboard. The rescued sailor remained in the care of the ship’s team as Carnival Conquest continued toward St. George’s, Grenada, on schedule. Passenger accounts and video helped the rescue gain traction on social media, giving the story unusually strong visual and Facebook potential. No significant itinerary delay was reported.
