Beyond The Tracker: How To Plan The Perfect Pre- And Post-Cruise Land Extension

You’ve not lived until you’ve been on a cruise. If you think an all-inclusive resort vacation is good, wait until you’re on a floating hotel, cruising through the Mediterranean or Caribbean, making the most of an all-inclusive drinks package that gives you unlimited piña coladas as you make your way to the first port.

The vibes are immaculate. And we know that so many people get excited from the minute they’ve paid for the trip, tracking their cruise ship to see where it is now, but the real fun is planning what to do before and after the cruise.

Without hesitation, we recommend extending your vacation slightly so that you have a day or two before and after your embarkation date. Read on to find out why and how you can make a plan.

The Benefits of Arriving at the Cruise Port a Day or Two Before

Arriving at your departure city a day before the ship leaves eliminates the stress of missed flights and unpredictable travel delays. When looking for the ideal home base near the cruise terminal, checking a holistic search platform like cozycozy allows you to effortlessly compare local hotels, vacation rentals, and apartments side-by-side to secure the absolute best rate before you set sail.

Nobody likes to rush around, even a type B person who leaves everything until the last minute. You get the luxury of relaxing, exploring the port, going for a beautiful dinner, and waking up refreshed and ready for the day of the cruise.

The Perfect Pre- and Post-Cruise Land Extension

Ideally, you want to arrive two days before your cruise. The first day is a travel day, so that doesn’t count, and the second day is for taking it slow and getting yourself hyped up for the cruise.

If your embarkation port is somewhere like Miami, you’re not far from areas like Domino Park, the Bay of Pigs Monument, and Little Havana. Little Havana is such an incredible place to be the night before your cruise. Sala’o Cuban Restaurant & Bar in the Little Havana area is divine; the cocktails there will definitely get you in the mood for your cruise.

Miami Port is one of the biggest cruise ports in the US, but whichever port you’re departing from, use Cozycozy to find a place to stay, and then Google ‘things to do near X port’ and ‘best places to eat and drink near X port.’

You should return to the same cruise port, and we recommend staying an extra night just to relax and decompress. You don’t need to do anything special, but it just means you don’t have to rush and travel home on the same day.

The Top Mistakes People Make on Cruises

Have you seen the videos that people take when they’re already on the ship, standing on the deck waving goodbye to the port, and people are sprinting towards the boat, desperately shouting for the boat to wait, as if it will redock, open the doors, and let them on? It feels almost evil to watch those videos, but don’t say you don’t crack a smile when you do. You can literally find endless complications of ‘cruise runners’ on YouTube.

That’s mistake number one, and don’t let it be you. That’s why arriving a day or two before is an excellent idea. You don’t end up on TikTok for the world to see your trauma of missing the embarkation times.

The other top mistakes people make on cruises are:

  • Trying to save money by not booking a drinks package, then spending hundreds on drinks.
  • Not knowing what’s included in the cruise package.
  • Flying on the same day as departure and missing the cruise.
  • Overpacking for tiny cabins.
  • Forgetting travel insurance.
  • Not researching the ship before travel.

Don’t make cruise rookie errors and do your research before you go.

Ah, how jealous we are of anyone going on a cruise. You can live out your Jack and Rose Titanic moments, take in the incredible atmosphere of a cruise ship, and see some incredible destinations. Tracking your cruise is fun, but extending your trip is even better. Once you start cruising, you never go back.

Cruising In Japan – Is It The Optimal Way To Get A True Feel For The Land Of The Rising Sun?

There are few destinations in the world as revered as Japan, and as a tourist hotspot, it attracts tens of millions of visitors each year. As someone who has been to Japan several times, I find that much of the tourism is concentrated in the country’s capital.

In all fairness, this applies to many major countries. When people travel to the UK, they focus their trip on London; the same goes for Paris. Tokyo is certainly the nucleus and the beating heart of Japan, but it is by no means the only place to visit.

For those who solely focus on what was, until recently, the world’s largest city and don’t venture out of Tokyo, then there are plenty of gems that they are often unknowingly missing out on.

We have seen how podcasts have become a new media version of this. Unlike a few decades ago when there would be a select number of radio shows, or a specialist TV show on every couple of weeks that focuses on a niche interest, you can go headfirst into an ocean of content online.

It has provided opportunities for those with a passion that spans across many niches. Broadcaster Selema Masekela has made a career of dipping his toe into many exciting industries, but as an X-Games host and captivating storyteller, he has found an international audience by leveraging bespoke, niche media that caters solely to listeners’ needs.

The way tourists use new media to plan their travel has played a significant role in Japan becoming a global hub for 21st-century travel. The music, style, aesthetic, and cultural history of Japan are easy to bottle up and sell on social media, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that is what reality will be like.

Tour and travel companies in the late 20th and early 21st centuries would handle the entire trip for you. You could find information in travel guides and books, but you had to set time and money aside to plan your trip. It was also far more expensive than it is today.

You couldn’t access translation apps, local tour guides, and, in the case of Japan, if you were going to rural areas, you would struggle a lot unless you had a bilingual tour guide. It discouraged many Western tourists from seeking out the rural gems that Japan has offered and still offers.

The hidden secrets of Japan are no longer a secret in the world of tourism. But having this free form of media can also saturate the market. It can be much harder to find tourist ideas that give a true, authentic, niche sense of what a place is like.

Rather than being dazzled by pictures of Fuji and centuries-old pagodas on Instagram, online engagement, fused with entertainment and viral content, is what drives much of tourism in the modern market, where niche appeal, excitement, and landscape form a trifecta, as you can see in the link below.

There are certainly pros and cons to a cruise, and it all depends on the type of traveler you are. For some people, the goal of visiting Japan, particularly rural Japan, is to flex their language skills, speak with locals, try the cuisine, and experience an undiluted and authentic version of the country.

A cruise gives you this in a controlled format. It is perfect for those who want to experience places around Japan without spending days or weeks in the countryside. It also gives you a condensed trip where you can tick off six or seven cities and go from the stimulating brightness of Tokyo to the serenity and reflection of Hiroshima.

My cruise itinerary consisted of Yokohama, Kochi, Osaka, Hiroshima, Kagoshima and Fukuoka. It would be a challenge to skip between these cities without incurring hotel, train and travel costs, and if you want to get back to a broader range of cuisine that you’re more familiar with, you can return to the ship.

While these lesser-known cities see less tourism, they lack the range, vibe, or electricity that Tokyo has. It’s important to get a balance. The Japanese countryside towns and smaller cities provide a fascinating window into a slower, conventionally Japanese lifestyle, but beyond a few days, they lack the depth of the major cities.

This is the same for any cruise; it is often the cities which act as a perfect base for a longer stay. However, if you have weeks to spend in Japan, then spending the entire time in Tokyo will not give you a collective idea of what Japan offers. In Hokkaido, the bleak winters and globally revered skiing resorts are a far cry from the culture and volcanic terrain of Kyushu.

Ultimately, though, you can use the internet to your advantage, and by ensuring you do the appropriate level of research and that you are venturing to Japan for reasons that captivate you, it’s very difficult to come away from the trip disappointed, regardless of whether you are going on a cruise or opting for a solo, bespoke itinerary that you compile yourself.

Emerald Unveils Two Exclusive Seychelles Yacht Sailings You’ll Want To See

If you’ve been dreaming of cruising somewhere few travelers ever experience, Emerald Cruises & Tours has just unveiled an itinerary worth adding to your bucket list. For a limited time in November 2026, the line will offer two exclusive 13-day Seychelles & Indian Ocean Adventure voyages aboard Emerald Kaia, its newest luxury yacht, taking guests deep into one of the world’s last truly untouched island paradises.

According to Ken Muskat, President of Scenic Group USA & LATAM, today’s luxury travelers are looking beyond the familiar. They want destinations that remain authentic, remote and genuinely transformative. “The Seychelles represents one of the last truly untouched frontiers in luxury travel,” said Muskat. “These new voyages aboard Emerald Kaia offer guests the opportunity to discover extraordinary islands, remarkable wildlife and vibrant East African cultures while enjoying the intimacy, comfort and personalized service that define our luxury yacht experience.”

This is not simply another tropical cruise. This type of voyage is an extraordinary journey into a region where powder-white beaches meet dramatic granite peaks, where UNESCO World Heritage Sites remain virtually untouched, where giant Aldabra tortoises roam freely and where travelers discover islands that few luxury yachts and even fewer travelers ever reach.

Sailing with just 128 guests, Emerald Kaia combines intimate yacht cruising with immersive destination experiences, allowing guests to explore hidden lagoons, remote coral atolls, historic Swahili settlements and spectacular marine ecosystems throughout the Indian Ocean, all while enjoying the comfort, personalized service and all-inclusive experience that defines Emerald Cruises &Tours.

Unlike larger ocean vessels, Emerald Kaia can access secluded anchorages and smaller ports throughout the Seychelles archipelago, bringing guests closer to the destination rather than simply sailing past it.

“One of the greatest advantages of traveling aboard Emerald Kaia is access,” Robert Castro, VP of Marketing for Scenic Group USA & LATAM added. “Our luxury yachts can reach secluded islands and intimate ports that simply aren’t accessible to larger ships, allowing guests to experience these remarkable destinations in a far more meaningful and immersive way.”

A Brand-New Itinerary You Won’t Want to Miss

Guests will journey between Mahé, Seychelles, and Mombasa, Kenya, discovering an exceptional collection of destinations including Mahé, La Digue, Praslin, Farquhar Atoll, Aldabra Atoll, Kilwa Kisiwani, Mafia Island, Zanzibar, and Mombasa.

Throughout the voyage, travelers experience remote tropical islands, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, East African history and culture, vibrant coral reefs, rare wildlife, crystal-clear lagoons, world-renowned beaches, rich Swahili heritage, and remarkable Indian Ocean biodiversity.

From snorkeling vibrant reefs and encountering giant tortoises to wandering ancient island settlements and exploring spice-filled markets, every day reveals another unforgettable corner of one of the world’s most captivating regions.

This Remote Island Is One of the World’s Last Great Discoveries

Made up of 115 islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is celebrated for its striking granite islands, crystal-clear waters, protected marine reserves, and extraordinary biodiversity. Many of its islands remain completely uninhabited, preserving authenticity and natural beauty rarely found elsewhere.

These new voyages extend beyond the Seychelles, introducing guests to the fascinating coastlines of Tanzania and Kenya, regions rich in history, wildlife, and cultural significance that remain largely undiscovered by traditional cruise itineraries.

“Luxury today is as much about discovery as it is about comfort,” Muskat said. “These voyages deliver both. Guests can experience incredible wildlife, fascinating cultures, and some of the most pristine islands on Earth before returning each evening to the elegance and contemporary luxury of Emerald Kaia. It’s an experience unlike anything else we offer.”

2026 SAILINGS

Seychelles & Indian Ocean Adventure

As luxury travelers increasingly seek meaningful experiences over crowded destinations, the Seychelles has emerged as one of the world’s most desirable and least-explored regions. Emerald Cruises’ newest deployment aboard Emerald Kaia answers that demand by combining intimate luxury yacht cruising with extraordinary wildlife, rich cultural heritage and access to destinations few travelers will ever experience.

Emerald Cruises’ Newest River Ship Just Hit The Water—Here’s Where It Will Sail

Emerald Cruises & Tours has celebrated a major milestone for its newest river ship, Emerald Lumi, as the highly anticipated Emerald Star-Ship touched water for the first time at a shipyard in Romania. The ceremonial launch brings Emerald Lumi one step closer to welcoming guests aboard for her inaugural 2027 season, when she will sail the Seine River on cruises from Paris.

Relaxed luxury along the Seine

Emerald Lumi has been designed specifically for the Seine River, measuring 110 meters in length, allowing her to cruise right into the heart of Paris and into Honfleur, where few other river ships can reach. With no more than 130 guests on board, the Emerald Star-Ship will feature an intimate, contemporary design with spacious staterooms

and suites with innovative all-weather balconies. Welcoming social spaces include Reflections Restaurant, Horizon Bar & Lounge, and a heated indoor pool that transforms into an evening cinema. Emerald Lumi will also include a self-service laundry, a popular addition to the new Emerald Star-Ships.

“Emerald Lumi’s water launch is an exciting step in bringing a fresh style of river cruising to the Seine. By combining extended overnight stays in key ports with curated local history and culinary experiences, plus a choice of active EmeraldACTIVE excursions, this new itinerary offers a more immersive, unhurried way to explore northern France than many traditional river itineraries,” said Elisabeth Sadler, Vice President Product, River Cruises, Scenic Group.

Sensations of the Seine & Normandy highlights

From March 2027, Emerald Lumi will cruise the new eight-day Sensations of the Seine & Normandy itinerary, round-trip from Paris to Honfleur. Guests will spend extended time in port with overnight stays and later departures in destinations including Honfleur and La Roche-Guyon.

Each day includes a guided tour that showcases the character of each stop and EmeraldACTIVE options, such as guided e-bike rides, hikes, or kayaking, giving guests the choice between relaxed sightseeing and more energetic exploration. History lovers will relish included experiences “in the footsteps of Claude Monet” in Giverny and a full-day guided tour of the Normandy D-Day landing sites, visiting beaches, memorials, and museums that bring this pivotal chapter of World War II to life. Food and wine enthusiasts will enjoy included experiences such as a walking tour of Honfleur with fresh oyster tasting, showcasing the town’s maritime heritage and renowned seafood.

EmeraldPLUS experiences on this itinerary highlight the region’s rich culture and flavors, from an engaging World War II lecture on board to an exclusive visit to a traditional Normandy cider farm, complete with tastings of locally crafted ciders and regional delicacies.

Guests will also enjoy Emerald Cruises’ exceptional inclusions, with airport transfers, daily breakfast, lunch and dinner on board, complimentary drinks with meals, guided excursions, EmeraldPLUS and EmeraldACTIVE experiences, gratuities and Wi-Fi all taken care of, for a journey feel effortless from start to finish.

Scenic Group’s growing fleet

The construction of Emerald Lumi is being led by Scenic Group’s expert team at MKM Yachts and forms part of Scenic Group’s ongoing investment in its river and yacht fleets. Alongside Emerald Lumi on the Seine, the Emerald Cruises fleet continues to grow with Emerald Kaia and Emerald Astra recently commencing their inaugural seasons,

and new superyachts Emerald Raiya and Emerald Xara set to follow in 2027 and 2028. Sister brand Scenic is also expanding its ultra-luxury Scenic Discovery Yachts

fleet with Scenic Ikon in 2028 and new river ships in Asia on the Mekong in 2028 and India’s Hooghly river in 2027.

President’s Cruise 2027

The 2027 President’s Cruise, which will take place on Emerald Lumi, will continue the traditions of hosted dinners and excursions with the President of the US & LATAM, Ken Muskat.

Modeled after its cousin ship, Scenic Gem, Emerald Lumi will host new guests and guests loyal to the brand.  Departing August 14, 2027, this unforgettable voyage explores the charming cities and historic landscapes of the Seine, round-trip from Paris.

The President’s Cruise is one of Scenic Group’s most anticipated annual experiences, bringing together a select group of guests for a highly curated journey defined by elevated programming, exclusive onboard moments and direct access to company leadership. This voyage reinforces the brand’s focus on rewarding loyalty and creating deeper, more personal connections with its global guest community.

“The President’s Cruise is one of the most meaningful ways we connect with our guests,” said Ken Muskat. “It’s not just about the destination, it’s about creating a shared experience where our guests feel a true sense of access, connection, and belonging within the Scenic Group family. Fun Online Entertainment Ideas For Your Next Cruise

Online entertainment is a fun way to spend your downtime at sea, offering you many ways to keep the excitement going during your next cruise holiday. You can host or join online trivia or bingo, attend virtual cooking classes, or play at online casinos. Online entertainment has become a popular pastime on cruise ships for many passengers, allowing them to break the routine of lounging by the pool.

Even the most ardent cruise addict knows that downtime can become tedious, especially when you’ve already run through almost every activity available on board in your over-enthusiasm. If you’re looking for a fresh, exciting way to pass the time, you might consider joining the growing number of cruise passengers who have discovered the joy of online entertainment.

Thanks to Wi-Fi, the world of digital entertainment is just a click away, giving you instant access to a wide range of online content that keeps the excitement going when the rest of your cruise ship mates have run out of steam. Now you can attend virtual cooking classes, stream your favorite shows, or play live casino games on your mobile phone, even if you’re in the middle of the ocean.

Experience The Excitement of Live Casino Lobbies

Many travelers look forward to playing at the physical casinos on board once the ship reaches international waters. However, sometimes these casinos can get pretty crowded, noisy, and smoky during peak days.

Should you prefer a more private, comfortable, and personalized gaming experience, then online casinos might just be exactly what you’re looking for. These premium sites allow you to take the action right to your stateroom balcony or a quiet lounge chair on the observation deck.

You can play live casino games at one of the many online casinos that authentically replicate the feel of Vegas, from anywhere on the ship, effectively bypassing the crowds and claustrophobia in favor of fresh air and vast game libraries.

Using the ship’s upgraded Wi-Fi network, you can instantly access interactive digital lobbies featuring real human dealers who handle real cards and wheels. The live casinos offer various forms of:

  • Live blackjack lobbies
  • Immersive roulette
  • Live interactive gameshows

The advanced technology powering these online experiences can transport you from your cabin right onto the casino floor through high-definition streaming and interactive features.

Low-Bandwidth and Offline Digital Games

If you’ve chosen a basic wifi package or the ship is passing through a temporary satellite blind spot in a remote geographical location, you don’t need to give up mobile gaming. There are a few low-data and offline mobile games that are the perfect solution for casual, stress-free entertainment.

Even without an internet connection, you can still participate in:

  • Pass-and-play mobile games by downloading titles like Spaceteam, Heads Up! or Ticket to Ride before you leave the port. These games allow you to play locally with your travel companions on a single device without needing an internet connection.
  • Asynchronous multiplayer games allow you to participate in turn-based matches, such as chess. These games only require small, intermittent bursts of data, so they work perfectly even on a slow baseline ship connection.
  • Single-player games like Monument Valley or Starvew Valley are incredibly immersive and can keep you enraptured for hours through their captivating storylines, and the best part is that these games don’t require any internet once they’ve been downloaded.

The internet slowing down doesn’t mean your gaming fun needs to slow down, too. Instead, you can switch to low-data or offline games to keep the entertainment going while you’re waiting for the next fun activity on your cruise.

Interactive Port Preparations and Creativity

Those sea days when your ship is moving between destinations are the perfect opportunity for you to look ahead and prepare for your next adventure or reflect on the amazing memories you’ve already made.

Virtual Port Exploration

Get onto Google Earth and research your upcoming destinations, or download localized travel guides to:

  • Map out independent walking tracks
  • Identify historical landmarks
  • Find hidden gems like local restaurants

Language Learning

Spend your downtime familiarizing yourself with the local language on apps like Duolingo or Babbel. These apps offer bite-sized, interactive lessons where you can learn basic phrases in the local language.

Photo and Video Editing

Use offline creative tools like Adobe Lightroom Mobile or CapCut to curate, color-select and edit your holiday video to perfection. Now you can turn your vacation footage into high-quality clips ready to be uploaded to social media when you hit the docks.

Never a Dull Moment

Thanks to the many exciting online entertainment options, there will never be a dull moment on your next cruise. Instead of getting bored with the mundane routine of sitting by the pool, you play live casino games of Roulette, get lost in a captivating mobile game or learn a few key phrases to impress the locals at your next stop.

Skip The Drake Passage: Atlas Expands Antarctica Fly-Cruise Expeditions For 2027–2028

Atlas Ocean Voyages is expanding its Fly the Drake Expeditions, giving travelers more opportunities to experience Antarctica while spending less time crossing the Drake Passage and more time exploring one of the world’s last great wildernesses. Responding to strong demand, the luxury expedition cruise line is expanding its 2027-2028 Antarctica season with six departures across two expedition styles designed to maximize time ashore and on the water in the Antarctic Peninsula. The Drake Express Expedition features a seven-night round-trip voyage from King George Island with private charter flights between Punta Arenas, Chile, and Antarctica, allowing guests to bypass the traditional two-day Drake Passage crossing in both directions.

2027-2028 Drake Express departures include:

The Drake Fly & Sail Expedition offers travelers the opportunity to experience the legendary Drake Passage by sea before returning by private charter flight from King George Island to Punta Arenas—combining the classic Antarctic voyage with the convenience of flying home.

2027-2028 Drake Fly & Sail departures include:

Every itinerary includes private charter flights, one-night hotel accommodations in Punta Arenas before and after the expedition, and six full days exploring Antarctica through Zodiac safaris, guided landings, and daily discoveries led by Atlas Ocean Voyages’ 17-member Expedition Team.

“When most people think about Antarctica, they envision penguins, whales, glaciers, and the thrill of stepping foot on the White Continent,” said James A. Rodriguez, President and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages. “The Drake Passage is a rite of passage for many travelers, offering an unforgettable journey between two worlds. However, for those with more limited vacation time, our Fly the Drake expeditions provide the luxury of maximizing your experience with options like our Drake Express or Drake Fly and Sail, allowing you to reach your Antarctic adventure faster while still enjoying the comfort of our purpose-built yachts and traveling with a small community of curious, like-minded explorers. It’s an ideal choice for anyone eager to embrace the wonders of this far-flung destination without sacrificing the essence of the expedition.”

Flying between Punta Arenas and King George Island takes approximately two hours, compared with the traditional two-day Drake Passage crossing each way. Whether guests choose the fully air-supported Drake Express Expedition or the Drake Fly & Sail Expedition, every itinerary is designed to maximize time spent exploring Antarctica.

Departures throughout the season offer distinct wildlife experiences. November and December voyages feature pristine snow-covered landscapes, dramatic ice formations, penguin courtship and nesting colonies, and elephant seals arriving on shore. February expeditions showcase active penguin chicks, playful seal pups, and exceptional whale sightings as humpback, minke and orca whales feed in Antarctic waters.

Each expedition is led by Atlas Ocean Voyages’ experienced 17-member Expedition Team of polar experts, naturalists, marine biologists, historians, photographers and kayak guides, providing expert insight through lectures, Zodiac excursions and shore landings. Guests may also reserve optional Antarctic kayaking or the rare opportunity to camp overnight on the Antarctic continent, while every voyage includes the complimentary Polar Plunge.

Before embarking, guests enjoy a complimentary Atlas Immersion in Punta Arenas, featuring an evening of Patagonian cuisine, regional wines, Chilean folklore and local history at Magellan’s Strait Park and historic Fort Bulnes.

Guests sail aboard Atlas Ocean Voyages’ intimate Polar Category C Ice Class expedition yachts, accommodating fewer than 200 guests. Spacious suites, inviting social spaces, globally inspired cuisine with daily changing menus and extensive plant-based selections, premium beverages, 24-hour room service, gratuities and enriching onboard programming are all included through the brand’s Always Included experience.

Limited space remains aboard select December 2026 Drake Express departures:

Travelers planning ahead will find the greatest availability across the expanded 2027-2028 Fly the Drake Expeditions, with six departures offering more choices than ever to experience Antarctica.

AmaWaterways Unveils First Look At AmaRudi, Europe’s Largest River Cruise Ship

AmaWaterways has revealed the first details and official renderings of AmaRudi, its highly anticipated second double-width river cruise ship. Set to debut on the Danube River in spring 2027, the new vessel will build on the innovative design introduced with its sister ship, offering guests an even more spacious and luxurious way to explore Europe’s iconic waterways.

Europe’s Largest River Cruise Ship

Building on the groundbreaking design of AmaMagna, which redefined expectations for river cruising when it launched in 2019, AmaRudi will stand alongside its sister ship as the largest river cruise ship in Europe. Designed to accommodate just 196 guests in 98 staterooms and suites, the new vessel will offer an extraordinary amount of personal space, multiple dining venues, expansive wellness amenities and thoughtfully designed public spaces inspired by the destinations along the Danube River.

AmaRudi is the first vessel in the company’s history named after a man, honoring co-founder Rudi Schreiner, whose pioneering vision helped shape the modern river cruise industry. Born and raised near Austria’s Danube River, Schreiner spent his childhood exploring the very river that will become AmaRudi’s home.

“AmaMagna changed what travelers believed was possible on a river cruise ship,” said Rudi Schreiner, co-founder and Chairman of AmaWaterways. “We knew there would be a right time to revisit that concept, and with river cruising continuing to grow, that time is now. More travelers are making the transition from ocean cruising to rivers, and many are looking for a sense of space and choice. AmaMagna was one of the most rewarding projects of my career, so having this new ship carry my name makes it especially meaningful. I see it as part of the legacy we have built together over more than two decades of river cruising.”

The design concept for AmaRudi blends contemporary elegance, exceptional comfort and subtle historical references inspired by the cities and cultures found along the Danube River. While building on the spacious double-width design first introduced with AmaMagna, the ship will debut several new features and guest experiences.

Culinary Delights

Dining will be at the heart of the AmaRudi experience, with multiple venues ranging from the Journey’s Restaurant and The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant to al fresco dining experiences and the intimate Rudi’s Wine Bar, a welcoming gathering place inspired by Schreiner’s passion for wine and European culture. Complementing these venues is AmaWaterways’ enhanced dining experience, including complimentary beer, soft drinks and a curated selection of more than 30 wines available during lunch and dinner, as well as new Italian lunch menus served in The Chef’s Table. A built-in Deck Club barbecue on the Sun Deck will further expand the ship’s dining options.

Wellness & Recreation

Guests will have access to an expansive wellness area featuring massage treatment rooms, hair and nail services, a state-of-the-art fitness center and dedicated spaces for relaxation. Guided by AmaWaterways’ dedicated Wellness Hosts, guests can enjoy a variety of fitness classes and wellness programming both onboard and ashore. The Sun Deck will also feature a full-sized pickleball court, providing even more opportunities to stay active while enjoying the scenery along the Danube.

Entertainment

AmaRudi will introduce an entirely new entertainment concept created exclusively for the ship. Designed as a vibrant social hub, the versatile venue will feature a cinema, karaoke, billiards and a jukebox, while thoughtful soundproofing ensures guest comfort throughout the vessel.

As with all new AmaWaterways vessels, sustainability will play an important role in AmaRudi’s design and operation. The ship will feature advanced Stage V engines, solar panels, shore power connectivity, spud poles and lightweight construction materials designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact while navigating Europe’s waterways.

“AmaRudi reflects our confidence in the future of river cruising and our continued commitment to innovation,” said Catherine Powell, CEO of AmaWaterways. “From the moment AmaMagna launched, travelers and travel advisors have been asking if we would ever build another ship like her. With AmaRudi, we’re taking that concept even further. There is tremendous opportunity to continue pushing the boundaries of what a river cruise ship can be while preserving the exceptional service and intimate experience that have defined our company for more than two decades.”

Since its debut, AmaMagna has remained one of the most talked-about ships in the industry, earning praise for its spacious accommodations, expanded dining options and innovative design.

AmaRudi is scheduled to begin sailing the Danube River in spring 2027. The ship will operate some of AmaWaterways’ most popular Danube itineraries. Additional details regarding accommodations, onboard experiences and booking information will be announced in the coming months.

American Maverick Joins Fleet As American Cruise Lines’ Second New Ship Of 2026

American Cruise Lines celebrated the christening of its newest vessel, the American Maverick, during the ship’s inaugural 9-day New England Islands cruise. The ceremony took place in Newport, Rhode Island, as the ship sailed a round-trip itinerary from Providence, bringing together guests, crew members, local community partners, and employees from the company’s Connecticut headquarters.

The onboard celebration marked an important milestone for American Cruise Lines as the newest addition to its growing fleet officially entered service. Set against the backdrop of New England’s historic coastline, the event highlighted the line’s continued investment in small-ship cruising throughout the United States.

American Cruise Lines’ Second New Ship of 2026

American Maverick is the newest small cruise ship in the country and the latest in the company’s growing fleet of ships exclusively designed for cruising the U.S.A., featuring amenities that surpass those of the finest riverboats in the world. American Maverick will be followed by the deliveries of American Ranger, American Mariner, and American Navigator over the next year. American Cruise Lines also launched the country’s newest riverboat, American Encore, in May.

American Maverick’s christening festivities took place on a glorious sunny day overlooking Newport Harbor with many people close to the company, including more than 50 employees from the Line’s home office in Guilford, CT. American’s President & CEO, Charles B. Robertson, gave remarks as did American Maverick’s Godmother, Susan Renner, American’s Board Chair and Treasurer. All christening attendees gathered on American Maverick’s top deck for the official blessing and ceremonial bottle smash, followed by a traditional New England lobsterbake at Fort Adams State Park just steps from where the ship was docked.

“We set the bar high for ourselves with American Maverick and were surprised to see that we set the bar for the rest of the river cruise industry in the process,” said Charles B. Robertson, President & CEO of American Cruise Lines. “The American Maverick is the new standard by which others should follow and with 8 more ships under construction, shows that the U.S. river cruise market will lead the way.”

Brand new American Maverick accommodates 130 guests. The small ship features 4 decks, all-private balcony staterooms, including singles and suites, plus, numerous spacious lounges (including a top deck lounge with a walking track), a chart room, a main restaurant and a casual café, as well as a fitness center, among other onboard amenities unusual for cruise ships of this size.

American Maverick now takes the mantle as the newest cruise ship built in the U.S.A., but it is also the latest in a long line of innovative new small ships introduced by American Cruise Lines.

The company’s 100% U.S.-flagged fleet and total dedication to the development of the domestic cruise market honors the true spirit of American ingenuity and innovation. This 4th of July, as the country celebrates its 250th birthday, American will have more domestic itineraries and more new small ships exploring along U.S. waterways than at any other time in the company’s 50-year history.

Quark Expeditions Unveils New Arctic 2028 And Antarctic 2028/2029 Adventures

Quark Expeditions has unveiled its Arctic 2028 and Antarctic 2028/2029 seasons—its earliest-ever itinerary launch in the company’s 35-year history. The new lineup features more than 70 voyages across the Arctic and Antarctica, giving travelers even more opportunities to experience some of the world’s most remote destinations. Highlights include the debut of a Guided Photography Program, Quark’s first-ever Expedition Extensions, a new Canadian Arctic sailing through the legendary Northwest Passage, and the return of the popular Tundra to Table culinary experience, created in partnership with Greenland’s acclaimed Igapall chef collective.

“What makes the polar regions so powerful is that no two experiences are ever the same,” said Sam Seward, President of Quark Expeditions. “This season gives travelers even more opportunities to engage with these destinations through exploration, learning, wildlife encounters, and cultural experiences, while staying true to the spirit of adventure that has defined Quark Expeditions for more than 35 years.”

All-New: Guided Photography Program

Launching across both Antarctic 2028/2029 and Arctic 2028, the Guided Photography Program builds on Quark’s long-standing commitment to photography and field-based learning in the polar regions. Developed with support from Quark’s experienced expedition team, the program offers dedicated instruction and small-group access designed around the unique conditions of polar photography. Each excursion is capped at 16 participants, led by a dedicated Lead Photo Guide, and structured around four key elements:

  • Priority Zodiac positioning for optimal field angles
  • Slower-paced field time designed around shooting conditions
  • Daily workshops and image reviews with the Lead Photo Guide
  • A learn-shoot-share cadence throughout the expedition

All-New: Expedition Extensions

As part of its commitment to offering travelers more ways to explore, Quark is introducing its first-ever Expedition Extensions. Available before and after select voyages, the curated experiences showcase the landscapes, cultures, and communities that serve as gateways to the polar regions. Highlights include guided exploration of Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, visits to Iguazu Falls, wellness experiences in Finland, and journeys through Iceland’s volcanic landscapes.

Antarctic 2028/2029: Science, Wildlife, and the Sub-Antarctic

Quark’s Antarctic 2028/2029 season explores five remarkable regions, including the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia, the Falkland Islands, Patagonia, and the rarely visited Emperor Penguin colony at Snow Hill Island. Accessible by helicopter from Ultramarine and subject to ice conditions, Snow Hill Island remains one of the most exclusive wildlife experiences in Antarctica.

Research and conservation remain central to the season. Ari Friedlaender of the Friedlaender Lab at the University of California, San Diego, returns for the Antarctic Marine Mammals voyage aboard World Voyager, where guests can engage directly with marine mammal research, contribute to citizen science initiatives focused on whale identification, and listen to whale vocalizations through portable hydrophones.

Across both seasons, Quark will provide 470 cruise nights to research partners and scientists conducting fieldwork in the polar regions, supporting ongoing wildlife, conservation, and climate research initiatives. Confirmed partners include Seabird Watch, SmartICE, Penguin Watch, and Saving Marion Island’s Seabirds.

Arctic 2028: Five Regions, New Itineraries, and the Return of Tundra to Table

New for 2028, a Canadian Arctic voyage explores the remote Northwest Passage, continuing Quark’s tradition of bringing travelers to some of the most remote and least-visited regions on Earth. The itinerary features visits to Arctic Bay and Lancaster Sound and expands access to one of the Arctic’s most legendary expedition routes.

Beyond the new voyage, Arctic 2028 spans five regions: Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, the Canadian Arctic, and Atlantic Canada, showcasing extraordinary wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and diverse cultures.

Returning for four Arctic 2028 voyages aboard Ultramarine, Tundra to Table explores Indigenous food traditions and culinary storytelling. Co-developed with Quark’s partners at Igapall, the program highlights regional ingredients, local perspectives, and the cultural traditions that shape life in the North.

Past guests received exclusive early access beginning June 16, 2026, before public bookings open on June 23, 2026. An Early Booking Bonus will be available for travelers who reserve while inventory lasts.
