Itinerary Changes Continue After Engine Repairs

Despite returning to service after emergency repairs in Freeport, Bahamas, Celebrity Beyond is still not sailing at full speed – and the effects are rippling through its upcoming cruise schedule.

Celebrity Beyond

Multiple sailings through October 2025 have already been adjusted, as Celebrity Cruises informs guests of altered port times and route changes due to the ship’s “reduced sailing speed.”

Delays Persist After Repairs

Celebrity Beyond first experienced a technical issue affecting its propulsion system during its 13th July sailing, which delayed its return to Miami.

As a result, the 20th July departure was cancelled entirely just hours before it was due to begin, and the ship was taken for emergency repair work in Freeport, Bahamas.

She returned to service on 27th July, but sailed her Eastern Caribbean itinerary at lowered speed – something initially assumed to be part of a cautious post-repair restart.

That now appears to be a longer-term operational adjustment.

According to notification emails sent to guests, the line confirmed:

“Due to a reduced sailing speed, we’ve made a few adjustments to ensure our voyage remains smooth, comfortable, and above all, safe.”

Confirmed Sailings Affected So Far

So far there are confirmed itinerary changes on at least eight sailings, all 7-night voyages departing from Miami:

  • August 3, 24, 31
  • September 14, 28
  • October 5, 12, 19

More affected dates may emerge, and guests booked on future cruises are advised to monitor communications from Celebrity Cruises.

Adjustments vary depending on the sailing’s Eastern or Western Caribbean route, but common changes include earlier departures, altered port times, and port swaps.

Sample Itinerary Change: August 24 Sailing

One example is the 24th August Western Caribbean sailing, originally visiting Bimini, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. The revised itinerary now includes:

  • Sunday 24th August – Depart Miami
  • Monday 25th August – Bimini, 7 am to 4 pm (previously 8 am to 5 pm)
  • Wednesday 27th August – Falmouth, Jamaica (replacing Cozumel)
  • Thursday 28th August – George Town, Grand Cayman, 7 am to 4 pm
  • Friday 29th August – Cozumel, 11 am to 7:30 pm (replacing Falmouth)
  • Other days – Sea days remain unchanged

Celebrity Cruises is adjusting shore excursions accordingly, and the total number of port visits is largely being preserved.

Should Guests Be Concerned?

Although the engine repairs were completed in late July, the ship is still operating at reduced speed, likely as a precaution to prevent further strain on the propulsion systems.

There are no reported issues with safety systems, hotel operations, dining, or entertainment onboard.

The ship remains fully seaworthy, and there is no indication that guests’ onboard experience will be affected beyond itinerary timing.

However, a full return to maximum cruising speed may not be possible until a future dry dock.

Currently, Celebrity Beyond is scheduled for dry dock maintenance in November 2026, though an earlier session may be added if necessary.

The Bigger Picture

Celebrity Beyond, the third and largest of Celebrity’s Edge-class ships, debuted in 2022 and is among the newest and most advanced vessels in the fleet.

At 141,420 gross tons, she typically sails 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with stops in destinations like St. Thomas, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and the Bahamas.

While reduced sailing speed may be a temporary technical limitation, Celebrity Cruises has taken steps to communicate transparently and preserve the overall experience for booked guests.

For now, a bit more patience – and perhaps a slightly longer journey between ports – will be required for those sailing aboard this modern luxury ship.
