Royal Princess Drops Two Alaska Ports After Engine Issue

Royal Princess is skipping Juneau and Ketchikan on its September 12 Alaska sailing after Princess Cruises told guests that a technical issue with the ship’s engines was limiting the speed needed to maintain the original itinerary.

A guest letter reproduced by Cruise Fever says the issue does not affect the safety of guests or crew and that technical teams are working to resolve it. The ship is continuing north, with Skagway still scheduled for September 15 and Victoria later in the voyage. Princess is offering affected guests a refund equal to 50% of their cruise fare, and is also refunding Princess-booked shore excursions for the canceled ports. Independent passenger posts from the sailing are consistent with the reported itinerary changes.
