Up really early, on this Monday morning as I had some recurring tasks I needed to do before I could resume my regular scheduled vacation. Emily was off to the gym as usual.
I decided to shake things up this morning and try Cove Cafe for coffee instead of Megara, and I still arrived prior to opening. These ships need an on-demand espresso kiosk for after-hours caffeination needs. Depending on the price, I’d consider adding on a drink package of sorts that just gives you concierge lounge access to the coffee machine and the open beverage fridge. I am pretty sure I could beat the house on a drink package for espresso and sparkling waters alone. Probably not, but I do consume a lot of espresso and sparkling water during the day at home.
Pro tip, if you get a new travel laptop or something and plan to do certain things, test the workflow before you leave home in case you need to download nearly 1 GB of additional software not already installed… I also forgot my external HDD at home on my desk so yeah, I’m O for 2 right now. I did remember to bring the microSD card reader for the GoPro that I left on my desk during our cruise in May. You’d think this is my first rodeo, but the reality is, I’ve always traveled with my daily driver laptop that has everything in place. Live and learn and thankfully the onboard Internet+Streaming allowed me to download 892 MB in about 15 minutes.
On the subject of the internet… it appears the Destiny’s ISP is currently SES, not Starlink. Anyone know when and why they changed internet service providers? The latency is up with SES compared to Starlink, and we’ve had some issues streaming, specifically with the Peloton app.
Cove Café proved to be a good choice this morning with just a handful of guests making for mostly a quiet and productive morning as we made our approach into Cozumel.
Due to my technical delay (my previously mentioned softward issue, not the internet), I had to rush back to the stateroom to turn and burn to make our group’s meeting time for our adventure ashore and I forgot the one thing I was was supposed to do…get towels. The reality is, the meeting time was not strict, but any delay would delay our arrival at our primary destination in Cozumel. Thankfully, Disney has towels available to grab near the gangway.
Even with my tardiness, we were among some of the first guests to go ashore, beating the first round of Disney port adventure groups. The weather forecast for today set up perfectly for our plans, with a high of 90ºF.
We led the group to our first stop of the morning, the MEGA, a short walk from the Punta Langosta Cruise Terminal. On the way, we spotted a billboard for the Cozumel Cat Café, which mentioned a new downtown location coming soon!
Hello MEGA!!! Now this is hands down the best shopping you can find in Cozumel based solely our love of visiting grocery stores when traveling. The MEGA is best described as a hybrid grocery/department store with some additional stores on the ground level.
Longtime trip report readers already know we love to visit grocery stores when traveling, even when we do not need anything. For me, it is part of the adventure, and in some cases, we discover some special finds.
The MEGA more than likely has whatever you need, plus major kitchen appliances and various modes of transportation! During previous stops, we’ve purchased puzzles and shoe glue to fix a broken shoe ahead of semi-formal night.
After browsing the store, we grabbed a few things and I ended up buying a bag of fresh fuego tortilla chips (for under $3 USD) and met back up with the group.
I did stop in the Office Max on the ground floor to see if they had any external hard drives. I was a bit surprised I could only find cheap flash drives in the MEGA electronic section and not at Office Max.
If you have some time and are looking for something to pass the time, go check out the MEGA, or don’t; it’s really not a destination, but it could be a fun side trip.
The MEGA parking lot is also a great place to get a taxi compared to waiting in lines at the port. There were plenty available and we were off to our next stop, Nachi Cocom Beach Club.
According the their website, Nachi Cocom claims to be Cozumel’s most exclusive all-inclusive beach club, welcoming no more than 130 guests per day offering a peaceful beach day, freshly prepared food, personalized service, and a relaxed atmosphere. Since there is a daily guest limit, reservations are required and the cost $79 (age 16 and over) with two lower tiers: $29 (ages 4-11) and $49 (ages 12-15).
The all inclusive offering at Nachi Cocom include an open bar for the duration of your visit, a four-course lunch, and full use of the beach, pool, jacuzzi, hammocks, and shaded loungers.
Three were clean restroom facilities and fresh water outdoor shower to rinse off sea water.
Water activities such as snorkeling, paddle boarding, boat tours, and massage are available for an additional cost. At no point during our day were these pushed on us after our initial welcoming introduction to the beach club offerings.
There was also complimentary WiFi offered and easily connectable via a QR code that was located on the bar near the pool.
Just past the restaurant seating and bar pictured above is the pool and hot tub, with which you have direct bar access.
Our group was ushered to a section of loungers with palapas (thatched umbrellas) at the far end of the beach. Looking back, the location was great for beach tranquility, but I think I’d ask to sit closer to the pool and hot tub.
Emily and I pre-booked 1-hour massages, as you saved #10pp by scheduling in advance. There were also 30-minute massages available. It was so relaxing that I fell asleep!
The menu is initially confusing because there are prices listed, but when you book the day pass, a four course lunch is included.
You can also choose order from your beach server, or dine at a table in the covered pavilion near the pool.
Overall, the lunch was great. Everything was flavorful and fresh. The cheesecake was the best dessert we had all cruise.
We enjoyed our day, and would absolutely consider returning in the future. Below is just a short timelapse of the beach view at Nachi Cocom.
One nice thing in Cozumel is that the taxi rates are published, so there are no surprises upon arrival. However, and this is good advice in any port of call, verify the price before getting into the vehicle. I would also recommend paying in cash to expedite the process, and USD is accepted without any issue; it is even listed on the taxi fare signage.
Our time ashore was coming to an end, but we did make two final stops on the Punta Langosta Pier to donate to the Humane Society and the Cozumel Fire Department.
There is something about the pier that offers great views of your cruise ship, especially if there is only one ship berthed.
Back onboard, we stopped at Café Merida for some caffeine. Isabelle had an illy Crema which is a cold, creamy coffee slush. I am a hot, black coffee, espresso drinker, but this surprising hits to spot.
I somehow “needed” the new plastic Disney Cruise Line beer mug in my collection after seeing it available on the pool deck. I’ve gone back and forth on my personal preference of the change in mug styles, and I do like how this is more stable (lower center of gravity) than the original style.
Tonight’s dinner is in Worlds of Marvel, where we were served the Celebration of Heroes menu. After two excellent nights of speedy service, it ground to a halt tonight while other tables were in and out in a reasonable amount of time. After holding out for weeks, and after having lettuce at lunch, I broke down and ordered a salad. Thankfully, the lettuce sourced in Cozumel and onboard were both unrelated to lettuce-gate.
Our evening plans brought us to Triton Lounge starting with a well attended 2000s music trivia.
This was followed up by Brainteaser trivia, which Isabelle was part of the winning team. Brainteaser trivia is one of my favorites, but also my most hated of trivia offerings. I love how it makes you think, but at the same time I feel really dumb once I hear the answer.
Tonight was Pirate Night and the deck party is well past my bedtime. Luckily, the camera doesn’t get tired.
Plus, we were losing an hour tonight and if I don’t get my beauty sleep, I am going to look no different, but at least I’ll be rested in the morning.
