Cruise ships are one of the most popular ways to see the world. You can travel across the entire globe and see every country you’ve been wanting to see. It’s a convenient way to travel for those who might be scared of flying, and a much more enjoyable experience for everyone.
You have everything you could ever need on a cruise ship. There are pools, restaurants, bars and even shops and cinemas. Another added bonus is that there is typically a casino on board as well.
Anyone who is worried about leaving their gaming behind when they’re on board doesn’t need to worry – it’s coming along with you! But what are the differences you could expect to find when you’re on a cruise ship casino?
We’ve got all of the inside info so you know exactly what to expect when you visit a casino on a cruise ship.
Differences to expect at a cruise ship casino
Norwegian Cruise Line Casino
One massive benefit to visiting a cruise ship casino is that you don’t need to carry a wad of cash around with you in order to play. Most cruise ship casinos will let you charge any deposits to your room, so there’s no need to even have a card with you.
Of course, you do need to keep an eye on how much you’re spending, so it could be worth looking out for that. But as long as you’re sensible, it’s a really handy benefit. There’s no need to use the cash machines on board, which can charge a fee.
You can usually print off a slip at the end of your gaming to keep an eye on how much you’ve spent that day, so you know what to expect at the end of your trip.
Odds are not in your favour
One unfortunate difference between a casino on land and a casino on a cruise ship, is that the cruise ship casino will have worse odds. Obviously, the house holds most of the power in any casino, but this is even more prevalent on a cruise ship.
When you’re visiting a casino somewhere like Las Vegas, the payout is typically around 90%. However, when you’re on a cruise ship, this goes down to something like 80%. It’s still going to be fun, but don’t expect to be making your millions if you’re playing on board.
So although the payout might not be as good, the minimum you have to put down in order to play at a table is lower. This encourages people who might not usually play to have a go as they’re not going to lose out on too much.
It also makes you play a bit longer and enjoy yourself a bit more as you haven’t had to part with too much money in the first place. This is a great benefit and means you can game more than you usually would.
Most casinos you find on land will be open all hours, every day of the week. This is one of the biggest benefits to land based casinos as there’s always an opportunity to get a game in. However, this all changes when you’re on a cruise ship.
Cruise ship casinos will have much stricter rules when it comes to opening hours and therefore won’t be open all of the time. This is because when you’re travelling on international waters, the rules for any kind of gaming are different.
It also means that this could change during your trip, so make sure you keep an eye out for any changes in opening and closing times. It might be that only certain games are allowed to be played during certain hours, so make sure you check with staff on board.
More opportunities to socialise
When you’re at your local casino, there might be the regulars who are there just to play and relax by themselves. There might be people who solely want to hang out with the people they came there with. All of these are totally fine, but it does mean that there doesn’t tend to be much mixing of groups.
However, that all changes when you’re on a cruise ship. You’re all there together for typically a long period of time. Therefore, people are more up for getting to know one another. People also tend to be more relaxed when they’re on holiday so they might be more up for socialising.
This makes a cruise ship one of the best places to visit a casino as you know that the atmosphere is going to be great. It’s a great way to meet people you’re on board with and make new friends in the process.
Playing at a cruise ship casino is different to playing on land, but there are lots of benefits to be had. Will you be playing on your next cruise?
With UEFA Euro 2024 just around the corner, MSC Cruises is presenting a unique opportunity for football fans to enjoy the tournament like never before.
MSC Cruises has partnered with UEFA to bring the live broadcast of UEFA Euro 2024 matches to its guests.
The coverage will include all major matches, ensuring that fans don’t miss a moment of the action. But it will only be available on cruise ships operating out of Europe – not those in the US or elsewhere in the world.
Specially designated venues onboard will host the live broadcasts. These areas will feature large screens and comfortable seating, creating an immersive viewing experience.
With ample capacity, these venues will accommodate numerous guests, ensuring everyone can enjoy the matches in a vibrant and communal atmosphere.
Special events and themed activities related to the tournament will be organised, offering guests opportunities to socialise and celebrate with fellow football fans.
These will include penalty shoot-out challenges, trivia competitions, create-your-own-shirt competitions and more, perfect for guests of all ages.
Of course, this could put some people off cruising with MSC, if you aren’t a football fan. You might want to avoid the ships showing the games in the communal areas, especially if your priority is a relaxing cruise.
But for those who are excited for the Euros tournament, this could be the best way to experience them outside of attending the games in person.

Carnival Liberty just sailed her first voyage out of the Louisiana cruise port and will be homeporting at the new location through April of 2026.
The 2,974-passenger vessel recently came to New Orleans, offering the first cruise on May 6. The ship replaces Carnival Glory which is now homeporting in Port Canaveral.
This move brings new and exciting cruise options for travelers departing from the Big Easy.
New Cruise Offerings for New Orleans
Carnival Liberty is offering a variety of week-long cruise itineraries from New Orleans:
Western Caribbean Cruises: These cruises will include stops at popular destinations such as Cozumel and Costa Maya in Mexico, Belize City in Belize, Montego Bay in Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mahogany Bay in Honduras.
Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean Cruises: Another seven-night itinerary will take passengers to Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas, providing a mix of relaxation and adventure in these beautiful islands.
Additionally, in December 2024, Carnival Liberty will sail on a unique 14-night Carnival Journey, which will include visits to Grand Cayman, Aruba, Curaçao, Cartagena, Colón, Puerto Limón, and Cozumel while sailing to the Panama Canal and the Southern Caribbean.
In 2025, Carnival Liberty is expected to offer itinerary visits to Carnival’s new private island, Celebration Key
Impact on New Orleans Cruise Industry
The arrival of Carnival Liberty is a significant boost for the New Orleans cruise industry. This repositioning is expected to attract more visitors to the city, benefiting the local economy.
Both Carnival Liberty and Carnival Glory are Conquest-class ships, and therefore the newly arrived ship has the same basic passenger capacity that local residents had with the previous Carnival ship.
Port officials and cruise industry experts are optimistic about this development. “We are thrilled to welcome Carnival Liberty to New Orleans,” said a spokesperson for the Port of New Orleans. “This addition not only provides more cruising options for travelers but also supports local businesses and contributes to the overall economic growth of the region.”
Carnival Liberty’s arrival is part of a broader trend of increasing cruise activity in New Orleans. Another Carnival ship is helping to expand the cruise line’s presence in the city:
Carnival Valor: This ship will continue to sail from New Orleans, offering four- and five-night cruises to Mexico and the Western Caribbean, with itineraries visiting Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Puerto Progreso.

SeaDream Yacht Club has announced exciting news for the 2024 summer season, including new upgrades, expanded menus and an incredible slide making its debut in the Mediterranean.
Firstly, the cruise line has unveiled an expanded plant-based menu. SeaDream was the first cruise line to introduce a plant menu all the way back in 2011, and now it has the best options at sea, with 2024 seeing more options than ever before.
Guests who want to enjoy a plant-based menu can enjoy five-course dinners each night, with new items every day and no repeated menu on a seven-day cruise.
And of course, like all SeaDream guests, they can enjoy outdoor dining at any time – there’s capacity for all guests to enjoy al fresco dining together if they wish, something you won’t find on any other cruise ship.
Guests will also be able to enjoy the first and only water slide that takes you directly from the ship to the sea.
The 23.5-foot-long inflatable slide takes guests on a 19-foot plunge from the pool deck into the waters of the Caribbean or, for the first time in 2024, the Mediterranean.
SeaDream I underwent a dry dock renovation in May 2024, with SeaDream II soon to get the same treatment.
As part of these upgrades, SeaDream I has seen all suites and staterooms refreshed, along with public areas and open deck spaces.
The SeaClub lounging space now has new couples’ hot tubs with unobstructed views, along with plush sun loungers, a golf simulator and hammocks for unwinding.
The panoramic gym, sauna and SeaDream Spa were also renovated during the drydock.
There were ‘behind-the-scenes’ upgrades too, with the ship now enabled to connect to shore power, eliminating emissions in ports where shore power is available.
SeaDream II already has this upgrade, meaning that SeaDream is the first cruise line to have an entire fleet enabled for shore power.
There are a host of new ports that guests can enjoy in both the Mediterranean and Caribbean too. New ports on Europe cruises include Taranto (Italy), Vlore (Albania), Krk (Croatia) and two African ports – Tangier (Morroco) and Tunis (Tunisia).
The Caribbean season will start in November and will include first-time visits to Boqueron (Puerto Rico), which is exclusive to SeaDream Yacht Club and has one of the country’s most beautiful beaches.
Guests can also visit Salinas in Puerto Rico, and Deshaies in Guadeloupe, for the first time on a SeaDream ship.
The cruise line has also committed to improving Transatlantic cruises, for guests who want to sail on a ship as it transitions between the Mediterranean and Caribbean seasons.
While the sailings have already featured a number of guest lecturers across a range of subjects, and a host of enrichment activities, there will now also be professional instructors for art and bridge on select voyages.
Other Transatlantic cruises offer guests the chance to sleep under the stars on a Balinese Dream Bed or, weather permitting, swim in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
2024 certainly looks like a very exciting time to book a SeaDream Yacht cruise!

Jenni Fielding is the founder of Cruise Mummy. She has worked in the cruise industry since 2015 and has taken over 30 cruises. Now, she helps over 1 million people per month to plan their perfect cruise holidays.
Mike Ashton was about to go on a cruise out of Southampton, a cruise port city in England, when he was told he would have to leave his much-needed wheelchair behind.
Ashton, along with his wife, daughter and mother-in-law had planned the P&O Cruises sailing on Ventura for weeks.
The family was about to board the vessel when Ashton was apparently told he had not filled out the proper form for wheelchair use on the ship and would not be able to bring it with him.
Ashton had booked his entire trip over the telephone and told the port agent that he had never received the required form.
According to Portsmouth.co.uk, Ashton was told that the email had been sent to him.
“P&O said they had sent me emails twice – but I’ve checked it online 30 times. I said I have done everything right,” Ashton claimed.
Ashton had booked a wheelchair accessible room, and he had done the same on prior cruises without any issues. But he stated that P&O claimed they didn’t know he would be bringing a wheelchair.
It should be noted that even when booking a wheelchair accessible room, a person on board has to be allocated for that chair, and the cruise line must be made aware.
The family had to make a very difficult decision after spending thousands of dollars on the cruise.
Ultimately, Ashton was left at the port and in tears as he said goodbye to his family before they boarded the ship.
“They made me feel more disabled and I felt discriminated against. I felt hopeless and very lonely,” the cancer survivor stated, adding that he would have been stranded if he couldn’t drive.
A P&O Cruises spokesperson said:
“We are so sorry this happened to Mr. Ashton and he was not able to board. The on board needs questionnaire is on My P&O Cruises (our online portal) to be completed – it is not sent out by email. It is also very clear on the front page of My P&O Cruises that this is to be completed if needed. If Mr Ashton was booked in an accessible cabin, he or his agent will have been sent emails prompting him to login to My P&O Cruises to complete the questionnaire.”
According to the P&O Cruise website, all wheelchairs and mobility scooters must be declared at the time of booking or as soon as the need for one of them is known.
The closed dimensions of the wheelchair must also be disclosed to the cruise line.
According to Ashton, “P&O said just because we booked an accessible cabin doesn’t mean we have a wheelchair. They have to allocate a person for the chair whether there is an emergency or not. They were willing to let me on board but without the wheelchair.”
P&O states on their website this message for disabled guests:
“Please note: if you do not advise us in advance of your holiday that you will be bringing a mobility scooter, you won’t be able to bring your mobility scooter on board. There are no storage facilities available for devices that are denied boarding, so this could also result in a you being denied boarding.”

Even with fewer flights, DAB sees about 1,500 passengers daily. There’s an average of 60 flights each day. This means it’s a quieter option for those flying to cruise from Port Canaveral, offering a more relaxed start.

Can you rent a car without a credit card? Yes, you can, but it’s a bit tricky. While most big car rental companies take debit cards, there are extra things you need to know. So, which places let you rent a car without credit, and what should you check before booking?
Many think a credit card is necessary to rent a car, but this is only sometimes true. Companies like Enterprise, Hertz, and Avis let you use a debit card for a rental. However, some rules come with this. For instance, you might have to be 25 or over and pass a credit look before renting with a debit card.
Companies might also limit the kind of cars you can get or ask for a bigger security deposit. I think it’s important to look at the specific rules and policies of the rental place beforehand. This can prevent surprises or problems when you get your rental car.
Understanding Car Rental Without a Credit Card
You can rent a car without a credit card, but be ready for extra paperwork. You might need two government IDs. This can be hard if you don’t usually carry extra IDs. Also, renting without a credit card means you’ll pay more upfront.
If your rental is pricey, the full payment and a deposit will be taken from your checking account, leaving you short on cash. With a credit card, you can possibly avoid rental insurance and the chance to dispute charges.
Rental Company

Alamo
Accepts debit cards at airport locations with proof of return travel and a $200 refundable deposit
Avis
Requires renters to be at least 25 years old, credit check, and vehicle restrictions based on location
Budget

Dollar

Enterprise
Permits renting with a debit card at airport locations with proof of return travel, covering the entire cost plus a $200 deposit; additional requirements may apply at non-airport locations
The rules for renting a car without a credit card differ from company to company. Some, like Alamo and Enterprise, make it easier. Yet, Avis and others have more rules. Always compare these policies when planning car rentals without a credit card.
Renting a car without a credit card can be done with some effort and knowledge of the rules. With the proper documents and enough money, you can rent without a credit card without too much stress.
How to Rent a Car Without a Credit Card
When you get the rental, you must show a credit or debit card. Budget will hold an amount on your debit card. This amount equals the rental’s estimated cost. It can change depending on the car type and location. For Budget, the lowest hold amount is $100, often for insurance or prepaid.
Remember, this hold affects your account balance during the rental. Ensure you have funds for the rental and any other uses. Once the rental ends and all payments are settled, Budget removes the hold.
For renting without a credit card, know your options with top rental brands:
At airport sites, Enterprise rents with debit cards on proof of return travel, full rental cost, a $200 deposit, and a credit check.
Hertz accepts debit cards for rentals saved in your profile, with a credit check, and need for 2 IDs and travel proof.
Alamo, Dollar, and Thrifty allow debit card rentals with 24 hours notice and a refundable deposit of $200 to $500.
Picking a car rental without a credit card has its challenges. Expect a big security deposit. You might face a credit check and get less protection than a credit card offers. Yet, with careful policy checks and readiness for the extra demands, you can still get a car.

Minimum Age Criteria
Your age is significant when trying to rent a car with a debit card. For example, Avis and Budget say you must be 25 or older. But in New York, the limit drops to 18. Hertz also has its own age rules, especially for fancier cars. Before you try to rent with a debit card, make sure you know the proper age rules.
Credit Check Procedures
A credit check may be part of renting with a debit card. Dollar won’t check your credit, but Avis and Payless might. The check is to see if you’re likely to pay your bills. Always be ready for this check when using a debit card to rent.
ID and Additional Documentation
Being of the right age and having good credit is just the start. You also need extra papers when renting with a debit card. You might need two IDs, a flight ticket for airport rentals, and proof you have enough money in your bank to pay. Know what your rental company needs so you can get your car smoothly.

The key to renting a car without a credit card is to read up on rental companies’ policies. While many now take debit cards, the details can differ. A little homework lets you hit the road with ease, even if you don’t have a credit card.
Navigating Security Deposits and Holds on Your Account
If you choose a debit card for a rental car, you must know about security deposits and account holds. These steps help the rental company cover any damages or extra costs. Here’s a closer look at how these work.
The Typical Hold Amounts
When you hand over your debit card for a rental, the company may place a hold. This hold is usually the same as the total expected rental cost. Yet, this amount might sometimes be $100 or more, especially for certain types of rentals or if you paid ahead. If you rent a car in Florida without a credit card, the hold might change slightly.
Duration of the Account Holds
The hold on your account can last for your whole rental period. It might even stay a few more days after you return the car. This extra time covers any additional charges or if you’re late returning the car.
Renting without a credit card in places like Ontario, Canada, or the UK might mean the hold lasts longer. This is because of different banking rules and possible currency changes.
Implications for Account Fund Availability
The debit card holds mean your money is locked up, and you can’t use it. This can be tough if you need the money for other travel costs or emergencies.
Here’s how to deal with holds:
Make sure your account has enough money for the rental and the hold.
Ask about hold policies before you rent to avoid surprises.
Use a separate account for travel expenses if you can.
Expect the hold to last a few days after you return the car.
Strategies for Avoiding Credit Checks
Some companies, like Dollar and Thrifty, let you use a debit card without checking your credit. However, you must meet certain conditions.
To rent with a debit card and skip the credit check, you usually must be 20 or 25, depending on the company. Also, could you make sure you book at least 24 hours ahead? You’ll need to show extra papers when you pick the car up, like proof of your return travel when renting from airports.
Additionally, you need to bring two types of ID. You also need enough money in your account for the rental fee and a security deposit, which can be between $200 and $500.
Final Thoughts
To rent with a debit card, a bit of research is key. Each rental company might have different rules. Choosing a debit card to rent gives some peace of mind. It also helps control your spending. By knowing what’s required, more places are within reach. And more and more rental companies are welcoming debit cards.

In a social media post on X, the Port of Baltimore announced that Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas will sail out of the terminal on May 25.
The announcement read,

The post included a link to a schedule for ships that included Vision of the Seas, Carnival Legend, Carnival Pride, Norwegian Sun, and Norwegian Sky.
It is not clear that these dates for cruise itineraries will happen as they are listed on the schedule however, as it appears the schedule was made before the tragic events unfolded in Baltimore on March 26.
Vision of the Seas will sail to Bermuda on May 25, 2024, on a 5-night cruise that will spend two days in port before returning to Baltimore on May 30.
This announcement comes just days after a salvage crew used explosives to remove a section of the bridge. A channel was reoponed from 8pm to 6pm that had a depth of 48ft and 350 feet of horizontal clearance, according to news reports.
GCaptain.com reported the clearance that was given to Maryland Pilots who navigated the channel saying,
“The Maryland Pilots have set a 3-foot under keel clearance (UKC) requirement for all vessels and have limited transits to winds less than 15 knots. While there are no beam restrictions for RO-ROs, Con-ROs, and cruise ships, other transits will be restricted to vessels with a beam of 106 feet or less, such as container ships, freight ships, tankers, and bulk carriers.”
