The World’s Busiest Cruise Port Is Expanding! Expect Record-Breaking Numbers…

Port Canaveral, the world’s busiest cruise port, is excited to announce plans for an impressive new development.

Port Canaveral Cruise Port

By summer 2026, a cutting-edge cruise terminal will adorn the port’s north side, set to enhance the already outstanding facilities.

This new terminal, named Cruise Terminal 6, will be situated at the existing North 8 berth space, redeveloped to help bring additional capacity to the terminal.

Positioned next to Cruise Terminal 5, which mainly serves Royal Caribbean International vessels, the new terminal will provide increased versatility, accommodating a variety of the largest ships from several cruise lines.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to accommodate the increasing demand for cruise travel, ensuring that Port Canaveral remains a crucial gateway to the sea.

The location of Cruise Terminal 6 has been carefully chosen. Its placement on the north side allows for uninterrupted construction without affecting the port’s busy daily operations.

We have cruise partners with immediate needs to locate assets in Florida and Port Canaveral is where they want to be. Our ability to efficiently bring a new cruise terminal online was key to retaining and growing this important business segment that supports many jobs and delivers high value to our regional and state economy.

Captain John Murray, Port Canaveral CEO

Cruise Terminal 6 is not just about expanded berth space; it’s about creating a fully integrated travel hub. The terminal will extend the existing docking facilities to 1,344 feet to accommodate larger ships.

Additionally, a new car park with a capacity for 3,000 vehicles, significant road enhancements, and a dedicated flyover ramp connecting to State Road 401 are all part of the ambitious plan.

As construction progresses, the port anticipates a significant increase in activity. Notably, Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas is scheduled to make Port Canaveral its homeport soon, while both Princess Cruises and Celebrity Cruises are set to commence operations from the port.

While it’s an ambitious timeline, it’s anticipated that the new terminal will be ready for summer 2026.

Carnival Cruise Mom Praises Daring Air Force Rescue of Her 12-Year-Old Son

A Carnival Cruise Line ship was 350 miles off the coast of North Carolina when the Air Force was called into action to help a 12-year-old boy.

The boy was on Carnival Venezia with his family as the ship was heading back to New York City from a Caribbean cruise.

The Massachusetts mother of the boy spoke with ABC News in an exclusive interview, recounting the incredible Air Force rescue and the intensity of the situation.

After a visit to the ship’s medical facilities, it was determined that 12-year-old Aiden had a perforated bowel and needed immediate care the ship could not provide.

“The next thing that we need to do immediately is get him off the ship,” Bridges said the medical team on the ship explained to her.

In what is being described as a complicated operation, a rescue that required three air-to-air refuelings was carried out by the 920th Rescue Wing of the Air Force.

A pair of HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopters, two HC-130J Combat King II aircraft, and an additional pair teams of combat rescue officers and pararescuemen flew hundreds of miles to carry out the operation.

Recalling the sound of the helicopter as the rescue was taking place Bridges said,

“We were standing there watching the whole time, and I, just, you know, screaming and crying over the helicopter blades.  It was very scary.”

Other cruise passengers on board cheered as the boy was lifted into the helicopter.

“After that the whole ship like cheered and was screaming and yelling ‘yay’,” passenger Katie Reed told interviewers. “It was really cool to witness and see like you know that this kid got a better chance at life because of like that team was phenomenal.”

The 12-year-old boy is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in North Carolina.

A statement to ABC News from Carnival Cruise Line praised the efforts of the U.S. Air Force.

“Carnival Venezia’s team worked with United States Coast Guard and Air Force officials to adjust its course Saturday so a medical helicopter could rendezvous with the ship when a guest on board needed treatment ashore. The ship then resumed its route to New York, arriving as scheduled Monday morning,” the statement read.

The Airforce aircraft flew over 1,200 miles round trip, in a rescue that took 8 hours to carry out.

“This is what ready now looks like. These real-world missions are what our countless hours of training have prepared us for. Rescue was able to plan and execute this mission without hesitation. This combined arms team is highly trained in their field while understanding what role they play in the bigger picture and led to the successful completion of the mission,” said Lt. Col. John Lowe, 920th Operations Group commander.

Aiden’s mother conveyed her gratitude for everyone involved in the operation to rescue her son.

“I feel so much gratitude, gratefulness toward all the people who have been integral to my son’s recovery.  It’s not just the Coast Guard or the Air Force, or the doctors or the nurses. It’s all of those people,” Bridges said.

How Much Does A Cruise Cost? (2024)

A 7-day cruise can be a great family vacation option, but it can also be expensive. How much you’ll end up paying will depend on the cruise line and the specific cruise itinerary. Here is some information on what to expect cost-wise for a 7-day cruise. Many people are confused and asking how much is a 7 day cruise? Prices can vary greatly by many different factors.

How How Much Does a Cruise Cost? (Really)

I’m regularly asked to help people get a cruise deal, but most people don’t understand the different cruise fares and the overall cost of a cruise and cruise vacation.

Find The Right Cruise For You

I sold cruises at different times and one of the training scenarios was to pair the person with the type of car they drove. As funny as this may sound at first, it kind of still holds true in some respects. A modern-day cruise aboard a mega ship is like a floating resort at sea. A person who drives an economy car might be fine with a budget cruise line. However, A person driving a luxury car will surely have different expectations. Cruising, in general, is all very impressive, but it is often the small details that as a whole that often help differentiate each cruise product’s overall customer experience.

The resort comparison is probably better for today’s comparison. So do you want a budget cruise line to keep your cruise costs lower where many luxury items are optional, or do you want to look at luxury cruise lines where most things are included?

The average cost of a 7-day cruise is $1,500 per person based on double occupancy. However, this price can range from $700 to $4,000 per person, depending on the cruise line and specific itinerary. For example, a 7-day Caribbean cruise on a luxury cruise line like Regent Seven Seas might cost around $4,000 per person, while a similar cruise on a more budget-friendly cruise line like Carnival could cost as little as $700 per person.

So, how much you’ll pay for a 7-day cruise depends on your preferences and budget. If you’re looking for a luxurious experience with all the bells and whistles, you can expect to pay on the high end of the spectrum. However, if you’re more interested in a budget-friendly option, there are plenty of great cruises available that won’t break the bank.

Cruising Solo

Unfortunately, cruises are often priced and sold based on double occupancy. They may have sales where they reduce the fare of the second person, and this is where working with a great travel agent who specializes in cruises can help. They can help solo cruises find these deals and also let you know about them when they happen.

The good news is cruise lines like Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Cunard now offer single occupancy or solo cabins. I think this offering will continue to grow with other cruise lines.

Norwegian Cruise Line has been a leader in this, offering single cabins called Studios and even a connected area called the Studio Lounge of many of their ships just for solo cruisers. These are a great way to get away on a trip by yourself and not have to pay extra or be penalized.

Getting to the Ship

If you’re flying to your cruise port, be sure to budget for airfare. The average cost of a round-trip domestic flight to a major cruise port is around $300-$400. If you’re flying internationally, the cost will be higher.

In addition, you may also need to budget for transportation to and from the airport. The average cost of a taxi from the airport to the cruise port is around $50-$60. If you’re looking to save money, you can also take public transportation or rent a car.

If you taking a Southern Caribbean cruise you may have to fly to Puerto Rico to cruise out of the Port of San Juan. This has always been a port that offers easy access to many exotic Caribbean cruise itineraries for cruise lines. This ofcourse has to be factored in the cruise price if visiting this part of the World is a must.

So, before booking your cruise, be sure to factor in all the associated costs of getting there. This will help you ensure that you’re not surprised by any unexpected expenses down the road.

Pre-Cruise Hotels

If you’re not traveling from close by, you may also need to budget for a pre-cruise hotel stay if you fly in the day before or stay overnight after your cruise is over. The average cost of a one-night stay in a hotel near a major cruise port is around $150-$200. So, if you’re traveling from far away, be sure to budget for at least one pre-cruise night in a hotel.

This way, you’ll be well-rested and ready to board your cruise ship!

Drinks Onboard

In addition to the cost of the cruise itself, you’ll also need to budget for drinks while onboard. Most cruise lines offer a la carte prices for alcoholic drinks, and the price can add up quickly.

For example, a cocktail might cost $10-$12, while a beer or glass of wine could cost around $6. So, if you plan on drinking a lot during your cruise, be sure to budget accordingly. Here is a sample drink menu from Carnival Cruise Line:

  • Beer: starting at $6.50 (mostly 16 ounces)
  • Wine by the glass: starting at $9.50
  • Mixed Drinks: $7.50 – $20.00
  • Specialty Cocktails: starting at $10.50 (excluding souvenir glassware and premium selections)
  • Soft Drinks: $2.75
  • Specialty Coffees: $2.50 – $4.25
  • Energy Drinks: $4.95
  • Water (San Benedetto bottled water and Coconut Water): $1.50 – $5.00

On the other hand, if you’re not a big drinker, you can probably get by with just a bit of spending money for tips and incidentals. In any case, it’s important to know what to expect before you set sail.

If you plan to drink often, consider your cruise line’s drink packages. Just be sure to consider the price and restrictions of the drink packages. The packages can be expensive so consider if it’s worth it. Most major cruise lines, such as Carnival cruise line, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian cruise line, offer several types of drink and soda packages. Some have them just for specialty coffees.

So, before booking your cruise, be sure to factor in all the associated drinking costs while onboard. This will help you ensure that you’re not surprised by any unexpected expenses down the road.

Shore Excursions

One of the best parts of a cruise is the opportunity to explore different ports of call. Most cruise lines offer a variety of shore excursions, from sightseeing tours to outdoor adventures. These excursions can be expensive, however, so it’s important to budget for them accordingly.

The average cost of a shore excursion is around $100 per person. However, this price can vary depending on the type of excursion and the port of call. For example, a snorkeling tour in the Caribbean might cost more than a city tour in Europe.

So, before booking your cruise, research the available shore excursions and budget accordingly. This will help you make the most of your vacation!

Specialty Dining

Another great thing about cruising is the opportunity to sample different cuisines worldwide. Most cruise ships offer a variety of specialty dining options, from sushi bars to Italian trattorias. These dining experiences can be expensive, however, so it’s important to budget for them accordingly.

The average cost of a specialty dining experience is around $30-$40 per person. However, this price can vary depending on the type of restaurant. For example, a steakhouse on a luxury cruise ship might cost more than a casual restaurant on a budget-friendly cruise line.

So, before booking your cruise, research the available specialty dining options and budget accordingly. This will help you make the most of your vacation!

Gratuities

The added expense of gratuities can often sneak up on people as tips for service staff. Tips are not mandatory, but they are customary and typically range from $10 to $12 per person daily. This fee is automatically added to your onboard expense account and can be paid upfront when you initially book your cruise.

Cruise Port Parking

If you’re driving to your cruise port, you’ll need to budget for parking fees. The average cost of parking at a cruise port is around $20-$25 per day. So, if you’re driving to your port, factor in this added expense. Some cruise terminals now offer Valet cruise parking which is a great option but, comes at an extra price for convenience.

Types of Cruises and Cruise lines

There are many cruises to choose from, depending on your budget and what you’re looking for in a vacation. Here are some of the most popular types:

Family cruises

These cruises are typically geared towards families with kids and offer various activities and entertainment options for all ages. Some of the favorites brands are Carnival Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line

Budget cruises

These cruises are a great option for those on a tight budget. They typically offer basic accommodations and amenities but can still be fun.

Luxury cruises

These cruises offer the best for accommodations, dining, and activities. They can be expensive, but many find them worth the price tag.

Theme cruises

If you’re looking for a themed vacation, there are theme cruises for every interest imaginable, from golf to country music to murder mysteries. Theme cruises are usually sold by a third party specializing in organizing these theme cruises. An example of the different companies is SixthMan (https://www.sixthman.net/) which partners with Norwegian which lists the different theme cruises on their website.

Royal Caribbean also has a special page that lists all their themed cruises. You can also go on a Star Trek The Cruise (www.startrekthecruise.com) aboard a Royal Caribbean ship. You can expect to pay a premium for a popular theme cruise. However, You should always inquire about any last-minute deals (within 30 days of sailing).

River cruises

These smaller cruises usually sail along inland waterways in the USA, Europe, or Asia and offer a more intimate experience with fewer crowds and more opportunities to explore the local culture. Some examples of the different river cruise lines are Viking, AmaWaterways, Emerald Cruises, and American Cruise Lines.

Cruise Tours

A cruise tour combines a cruise with a land tour, usually in destinations like Alaska or the Mediterranean. This is a great option if you want to see multiple places on one trip

Prices for different types of cruises

Prices for different types of cruises vary widely, depending on the type of cruise, the destination, and the level of luxury. But generally, you can expect to pay anywhere from $200 to $5,000 per person for a cruise.

One tip is to try to calculate the price of the cruise on a per-day basis. When doing this, try to come up with an average total cost of a cruise from each of the different cruise lines you are considering.

This will give you a realistic view of the cruise prices. For example, That budget cruise might not be such a good deal when you add up all the extra costs or add-ons. You may find a better value with a different brand with a higher upfront cost, but you save more overall when the extras are included in the price.

Cruise Ship Cabin Types

There are several different types of cabins you can choose from on a cruise ship, and the type you choose will affect the price. Here are some of the most popular cabin types:

Interior cabins

These cabins do not have any windows, but they are typically the most affordable option.

Oceanview Cabins

These cabins have a window that offers passengers a view of the ocean. They are a bit more expensive than interior cabins but still offer good value for the price.

Balcony Cabins

These cabins offer passengers a private balcony where they can relax and enjoy the view.

Suite Cabins

These luxurious cabins offer the best in accommodations and come with features like a private balcony, living area, and bedroom. They are the most expensive type of cabin on a cruise ship. A suite on an ultra-luxury cruise may even come with your own butler to handle many things for your personally.

How to save money on a cruise

There are a few ways to lower your overall cruise cost on cruises:

Book Early

Many cruise lines offer discounts for early bookings and often offer cruises a year or more in advance. You may see many promotions during the year as the cruise gets closer, but the best price was almost always when it was first available to be booked.

This can save you up to 50% off the regular cruise rates. For example, booking a Caribbean cruise at certain times of the season can save you a lot. That same cruise priced at it’s highest in July can be had for much less if you are flexible when it’s much cheaper in the months of September, October, and November.

Guaranteed Category Cabins

Cruise lines will often offer a “guaranteed” category cabin. This means you can get a certain category type, such as an Interior cabin, Oceanview, or Balcony cabin, and the cruise line guarantees it.

These room types are often $100 cheaper per person. However, In exchange, the cruise line will ultimately pick your cabin location and final category. I have booked these several times, and it’s a great way to cut cruise costs if you don’t need a specific location and are flexible. Please note these are NOT always available on every sailing or cruise line.

Package Deals

These can be a great way to lower the overall cruise cost. Some cruise lines offer package deals that include airfare, hotel stays, and other extras. This can be a great way to cruise on a budget during your trip and have everything taken care of in one go.

Group Rates

Travel agents often have access to exclusive discounts and group cruise rates. They can help you find the best deal for your needs. If you’re willing to take a last-minute cruise, you can often get a great deal. Being flexible with your travel plans can save you a lot of money.

What’s included in the price

The price of a cruise includes transportation, accommodations, and most meals in the cruise fare. It also often includes activities and entertainment, as well as access to the ship’s facilities. Some cruise lines also offer special deals that include extras like airfare, hotel stays, or wine tastings.

What’s not included in the price

The price of a cruise does not generally include airfare, ground transportation, or shore excursions. You will also need to budget for incidentals like tipping, souvenirs, and laundry. Some cruise lines offer all-inclusive packages that include these extras, but they tend to be more expensive. Cruise prices can vary so much in terms of what is an add-on and what is included.

Port Fees and Taxes

Each cruise will come with port fees which are the cost for the ship to dock in a certain port. The port normally charges each passenger a fee, and this charge is included in the price of the cruise. These port fees are a fixed cost and can not be reduced or waived. So when you are booking a cruise, a 7-day cruise with more port visits will often cost more.

For example, a Western Caribbean cruise may have fewer ports and lower port fees overall compared to an Eastern Caribbean cruise. Some popular ports may also charge a higher fee than a less popular port. Each of these things may come into consideration when comparing cruise vacation prices.

Onboard Spending

What you spend onboard can add up quickly, so it’s important to plan and know what to expect. Here are some of the most common expenses:

Drinks

Alcoholic drinks and soft drinks can be expensive on a cruise ship, and many mainstream cruise lines charge a premium for drinks served in certain venues or specialty restaurants. Many passengers don’t look at the prices before ordering so having a drink package can be helpful.

Another great cruise tip is to limit your drinking while onboard and drink while visiting a port. What’s better than having a nice drink while overlooking the beach in Grand Cayman or

Cruise Line Specialty Items and Dining

Most cruises come with breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, coffee, and even snacks included in the basic cost of the cruise. However, They now offer specialty restaurants and even items ranging from coffee, desserts, and even pizzas. If you want room service this may be included at some times of the day but, many cruise lines now offer items for a fee or have a service fee. On more inclusive cruise room service and many items are included in the price of the cruise.

Onboard Cruise Activities

There are usually a lot of activities available on a cruise ship, and many of them come with a price tag. Some examples include spa treatments, escape rooms, bowling, and arcade games. Historically, the average price of a cruise has remained low for a very long time but, the optional extras and add-ons have continued to grow.

This often leads to guests being surprised at the total cost of the cruise when they get the final bill. This is why it’s nice to receive an onboard credit when booking the cruise to help offset some of these unforeseen extras once onboard.

Shore Excursions

If you want to explore the ports of call on your cruise, you’ll need to pay for tours. These can range from a simple bus tour to an all-day adventure zip-lining through the jungle. Shore excursion prices and the types of availability may differ from port to port. This can be a big consideration when booking a cruise.

For example, when taking a Caribbean cruise, an island tour and other options will be more affordable than most excursions offered on an Alaskan or European cruise, where the tours are often more expensive and enriching. Most port cities have taxis readily available to offer you a tour of the major sites to drive you from place to place. Be sure only to use the government licenses taxis and take precautions.

The nice thing about cruising is it allows you to experience the new places you visit and even do activities like hot air ballooning, snorkeling, diving in a submarine, boat rides and more.

Which cruise line is right for you

The type of cruise you choose should be based on your budget and what you’re looking for in a vacation. If you’re looking for a family-friendly vacation with plenty of activities, a standard cruise is the best option.

If you’re interested in a themed vacation or want to explore a new destination, there are specialty cruises available for just about every interest.

River cruises are a great option if you want to experience a more intimate setting, while cruise tours are perfect for those who want to see multiple destinations in one trip. If money is no object, luxury cruises offer the ultimate in extravagance.

How To Book A Cruise

The best way to book a cruise is through a professional travel agent specializing in cruise travel. Travel agents are familiar with the different cruise lines and can help you choose the one that’s right for you. They can also often get you discounts and perks you wouldn’t be able to get on your own.

If you’re booking a cruise on your own, the best way to start is by researching online. Read reviews of different cruise lines and compare prices to find the best deal. Once you’ve found a cruise you’re interested in, call the cruise line or book online.

When To Book A Cruise

It’s generally best to book a cruise 6-12 months in advance. This will give you the widest selection of dates and itineraries. If you’re booking a last-minute cruise, you may be able to find some great deals, but you won’t have as many options to choose from.

What You Need To Know Before Booking A Cruise

Before booking a cruise, there are a few things you should keep in mind:

Your Budget

Cruises can be expensive, so it’s important to set a budget and stick to it. The advertised fare is not really what the cruise cost. Most advertisements do not include port fees and taxes, which are mandatory and can add hundreds per person to the overall cruise fare. Many people new to cruising often want to take a shorter cruise. However, the shorter cruises are often in higher demand and can cost more per day than a longer cruise.

Newer cruise ships may do a few short cruises occasionally, but, they normally do seven days or more. So I recommend a longer cruise if you want a better value on your cruise fare.

Your Travel Dates

Be flexible with your travel dates to get the best price. The time of year and when you cruise can be a significant factor in the cruise price. One rule of thumb to follow is this.

If the kids are out of school, the cruise fare can be two to three times higher. So people may choose to take their kids out of school for a special vacation, or retired couples may choose to go on a cruise when kids are in school.

Sometimes being flexible can help earn extra onboard credit or help you lower your overall cruise costs.

Your Destination

Choose a destination, and port stops that interest you and are within your budget. Where you choose to cruise can also be a major factor in your overall cruise fare. For example, You may be able to drive to Port Canaveral in FL or for Caribbean cruises.

You are already saving money compared to your fellow cruise passengers who may have to fly to the port. Carnival Cruises has focused on offering cruises closer to home for US cruisers.

They now have cruise ships home porting in ports all around the United States in locations like Port Canaveral, Port Galveston, Long Beach Cruise Terminal, and more.

Your Ship

Do some research on different cruise ships to find one that has the amenities and activities that you’re looking for. I try to get one of the cruise line’s newest ships. Cruise lines put the best of everything on their new flagship vessels.

This can often include interior design, cabin amenities, specialty restaurants, food options, entertainment, and more. Another thing to think about is the crew. Most new ships also have the best of the crew and officers onboard to deliver a prized experience.

If you’re looking to lower your overall cruise costs, you can often book an older ship with the same amenities that are in less demand compared to the newest ship and save money on the overall cruise cost.

Your Travel Agent

If you’re using a travel agent, choose one specializing in booking cruises. The cruise lines now offer special training and certifications to agents who become experts in that specific cruise line. Look for these certifications as well as CLIA certifications.

Working with a good cruise-based agent can come with so many benefits. You normally don’t have to pay extra to worth with a personal travel agent. The cruise line pays them a commission after the sale, and you pay no more than you would if you booked directly with the cruise line.

An expert travel agent can offer your cruise tips, offer special cruise deals. These experts can advise you on the benefits of possibly spending just a few hundred dollars more. Many cruises ask questions like, is a balcony cabin worth it?

Are alcoholic beverages included? How good is the food in the main dining room? They can also help you have a seamless vacation and explain any extra transfer costs or fine print you need to know. They will also be waiting to help you book your next cruise.

Just know the different cruise lines may visit the same ports, but, your overall cruise experience can be very different based on the cruise line your choose to sail with. This can be who your fellow passengers are, the average price of the cruise, overall ambiance and décor, type of entertainment, and food quality and availability. Cruise lines like Disney cruise line, Holland America line, princess cruises

Now that you know how to book a cruise, it’s time to start planning your trip! Use these tips to find the best deal on a cruise that fits your budget and needs. Bon voyage!

Everyday Things To Bring On A Cruise (2024)

Cruising has become a popular vacation, allowing travelers to explore multiple destinations while enjoying luxurious amenities and entertainment.

If you have booked your first cruise or are considering going on one, you may wonder what to expect. From the diverse range of activities and dining options to the welcoming crew and stunning ocean views, a cruise offers a unique and unforgettable experience.

Things To Bring On A Cruise

This article will guide you through what to expect on a cruise and the essential things you should bring to make the most of your voyage. Whether you’re embarking on a Caribbean cruise or exploring the beautiful landscapes of Europe, you’ll want to be prepared for the adventures that await. So, let’s delve into the exciting world of cruising and discover how to make the most of your time on board.

Preparing for Your Cruise Vacation

When preparing for your cruise vacation, there are some crucial steps to consider to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Firstly, it’s essential to research and choose the suitable cruise activities and destinations for you and your travel companions. Whether you prefer lounging on the beach, exploring historical sites, or trying out adventurous water activities, selecting the correct itinerary will make all the difference.

Regarding packing, it’s wise to focus on versatile outfits that mix and match easily. This will help you make the most of limited cabin space while still looking stylish. Additionally, it’s a good idea to pack essentials in your carry-on bag, such as travel documents, medications, bathing suits, and any other personal items you may need immediately upon boarding.

It’s also crucial to research your chosen cruise line’s dress codes and weather conditions before packing. This will ensure you have the appropriate attire for formal nights and other events requiring specific dress codes.

Moreover, knowing the potential weather conditions will help you pack suitable clothing and accessories. I often look at the weather forecast before packing and then again before and during my cruise. Depending on where I am traveling, I can understand the temperate ranges during my sailing. I can find out if it will be very rainy, super cold, or hot during my cruise.

Lastly, be sure to visit the cruise line’s website or FAQ section to familiarize yourself with any specific guidelines regarding cabin space and what items are allowed on board. This will help you maximize your cabin space and avoid unnecessary surprises during embarkation day.

By following these steps and researching, you can effectively prepare for your cruise vacation and make the most of your time at sea.

Travel Documents

When preparing for a cruise vacation, travel documents should be at the top of your packing list. The most important document to have is a valid passport. However, bringing a photocopy of the front page is also a good idea.

Sometimes, sailing with just a birth certificate may be an option. However, checking with your cruise line and destination is always recommended to ensure that a birth certificate is sufficient. The birth certificate must be an original or certified copy from the Office of vital statistics or that initially issued it.

You cannot use a photocopy or a notarized copy; it will not be accepted. A passport is always recommended, especially in an emergency where you may have to be flown home via an international flight or another issue requiring a passport. Having a passport makes things much easier and gives you some peace of mind if needed.

Having the necessary travel documents with you ensures a smooth embarkation process and fully allows you to enjoy your time onboard without any unnecessary worries. So include your passport or photocopy and any other required identification documents on your cruise packing list.

Credit Cards and Cash

It essential to consider your financial needs while exploring different international locations. Credit cards are widely accepted on cruise ships and tourist destinations. However, having multiple credit cards with different issuing banks is a good idea, as some merchants may have preferences or restrictions.

Cash becomes essential in specific ports of call, especially in more remote or less touristy areas. Local markets, small shops, and street vendors may only accept cash payments. It’s always advisable to carry some local currency to fully immerse yourself in the local culture and make transactions hassle-free. However, You can often use nearby ATMs to retrieve local currency for your day’s visit. We did this when visiting different cities during our European river cruise during the Christmas Markets. We had to try a fresh Chimney Cake while in Budapest!

To ensure the safety of your finances, a wallet or money belt is an essential item to bring on a cruise. These accessories provide a secure way to carry cash, credit cards, and essential travel documents onboard or during onshore excursions. It’s always wise to divide your money and cards between different compartments of your wallet or money belt, reducing the risk of losing everything in case of theft or misplacement.

Please remember to let your credit card company or bank know about your travel plans before leaving to avoid any issues with foreign transactions. Many places may cause a hold on your account and this can be difficult to fix while your one a cruise or in a foreign port, potentially without any cell phone service.

Clothing & Accessories

When it comes to what to pack for a cruise, clothing and accessories are important items to consider. The right clothing can make all the difference in your comfort and enjoyment while onboard and during onshore excursions. From swimwear to formal wear, it’s essential to pack a variety of options to suit different activities and occasions.

Along with clothing, accessories such as hats, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes are also important for protecting yourself from the sun and exploring new destinations. Additionally, items like waterproof phone cases, packing cubes, and travel alarm clocks can enhance your cruise experience. Let’s explore some key clothing and accessories to bring on a cruise.

Formal Events and Attire

Formal events and attire play a significant role in the cruise experience, adding a touch of elegance and glamour to the journey. Different cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean and Carnival, have varying dress codes and expectations regarding formal nights.

For men, options range from dress shirts paired with dress pants or khakis to blazers, suits, or even tuxedos for those seeking a more sophisticated look. Women often opt for cocktail dresses or gowns, but dressy pantsuits can also be stylish.

It’s important to note that the dress code for formal events can vary depending on the cruise line and even the specific voyage itinerary. It is always recommended to check the cruise line’s website or documentation for specific dress code requirements for each night.

Royal Caribbean, for instance, has formal nights where guests are encouraged to dress up, while Carnival offers more flexible options, including elegant nights where dress code expectations are more relaxed.

When packing for a cruise, including attire for formal events is crucial to enjoying the experience fully. Being well-prepared can help make formal nights unforgettable, adding that extra touch of luxury to an already incredible vacation. So remember to pack those cocktail dresses and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Beachwear & Water Activities Gear

Packing the right beachwear and water activities gear is essential for a fun and comfortable trip. Here are a few essential items to consider including in your suitcase:

1. Swimsuits: Pack a few swimsuits to ensure you have options for different activities and days by the pool or beach.

2. Cover-ups: Lightweight and easy to pack, cover-ups are perfect for transitioning from the beach to the ship’s common areas.

3. Workout clothes/activewear: If you plan to stay active during your cruise, pack workout clothes and activewear to take advantage of the onboard fitness facilities or participate in activities like yoga or dance classes.

4. Water shoes: Water shoes are a must-have for excursions to rocky beaches or water-related activities such as snorkeling or kayaking. They offer protection and grip on slippery surfaces.

Water shoes are especially important if you plan on exploring coral reefs or hiking to waterfalls, where rocky terrain can be encountered. They provide comfort, prevent injuries, and allow you to fully enjoy your adventure without worrying about sharp rocks or getting your regular shoes wet.

Cruise Ship Pool Deck – Footwear And Safety

You may wish to also find a pair that can be used around the ship’s pool as it can become very hot and extremely slippery at times. I bring a pair of Croc’s that are both comfortable and waterproof. Their are many options but, be sure to have something that is best for your and will keep you safe from a fall.

Including these items in your packing list will prepare you for beachside relaxation and exciting water activities during your cruise vacation.

Everyday Clothes and Shoes

When going on a cruise vacation, it’s essential to pack the right everyday clothes and shoes to ensure comfort and practicality throughout your trip. Whether lounging on the ship or exploring ports of call, proper attire is essential.

For casual days on the ship or during port stops, opt for comfortable and relaxed clothing such as shorts, jeans or khakis, sundresses or skirts, T-shirts (both long and short-sleeved), and tank tops. These everyday clothes will keep you cool and allow for easy movement as you do your activities.

It’s also vital to consider dressing appropriately when visiting religious sites or participating in certain cultural excursions ashore. In some destinations, modest attire may be required, which means covering your shoulders, knees and avoiding revealing clothing. Having a lightweight wrap or shawl handy is always a good idea.

When it comes to footwear, comfortable and practical shoes are a must. Pack a pair of sneakers or walking shoes for exploring the ship and participating in onboard activities. Bring a pair of sandals or flip-flops for beach days or water-related excursions. And remember to include a pair of versatile and comfortable shoes for evenings or formal nights, such as flats or loafers. If your cruise is going to Alaska, you may wish to pack some hiking shoes or boots to make you more comfortable if you walk trails during an excursion.

Hair Care Products and Accessories

When packing for a cruise, remember to include the essential hair care products and accessories to keep your locks looking fabulous throughout your vacation. First and foremost, bring a brush or comb to keep your hair tangle-free and looking its best.

Pack your preferred hairstyling tools if you have specific hairstyling needs, like straightening or curling. This could include a flat iron, curling iron, or a hot air brush.

To maintain your desired hairstyle, remember the necessary hairstyling products. Bring along your favorite hairspray, mousse, or gel to keep your hair in place, no matter the activities you partake in onboard or during your shore excursions.

Hair accessories are also worth packing. Whether it’s hair ties, hair clips, or headbands, these can keep your hair out of your face during active days or dress it up for formal nights.

While some cruise ships provide complimentary shampoo and conditioner, the quality and choice might not suit your liking. To ensure you have the products that suit your hair type, it’s advisable to bring your own. If space allows, packing your preferred body wash can also enhance your overall shower experience.

By including these hair care products and accessories in your cruise packing list, you can maintain your desired hairstyle and keep your hair healthy and beautiful throughout your vacation. Note, a hair dryer is normally provided in most cruise ship staterooms.

Jewelry and Other Accessories

When it comes to jewelry and accessories, packing the essentials for your cruise vacation is key. Here are a few must-haves to consider:

1. Versatile Jewelry: Bring pieces that can easily complement different outfits. A pair of stud earrings, a simple necklace, and a few bracelets can go a long way in accessorizing your looks.

2. Travel Jewelry Organizer: Invest in a travel jewelry organizer to keep your jewelry tangle-free and protected. These organizers have separate compartments and pockets to store your earrings, rings, necklaces, and bracelets. Choose one with a secure zipper closure to prevent any travel mishaps.

3. Jewelry Organizer Bag: Travel jewelry organizers come in different sizes, so choose one that suits your needs. Consider a jewelry organizer bag if you have a more extensive jewelry collection. These bags often have multiple compartments and removable pouches, allowing you to customize the organization based on your individual pieces.

4. Accessories: Remember other accessories that can enhance your cruise experience! Pack a stylish hat to shield you from the sun, a pair of sunglasses for the bright days, and a lightweight scarf for breezy evenings.

Using a travel jewelry organizer can avoid the frustration of tangled necklaces or misplaced earrings. It not only keeps your jewelry organized but also prevents damage during transit. Find the right size and consider buying a jewelry organizer bag for convenience. With your essentials adequately packed, you’ll be ready to enjoy your cruise with style and ease.

Toiletries & Personal Care Items

Taking care of your personal hygiene is essential while on a cruise vacation. Pack all the necessary toiletries and personal care items to keep yourself fresh and clean throughout your trip. Start with the basics like toothpaste, toothbrush, and dental floss.

Remember to bring your preferred shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in travel-sized bottles to save space in your luggage.

Moisturizers and sunscreen are also essential to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. For women, pack your makeup essentials and feminine hygiene products. Remember to bring any necessary medications and first aid items in emergencies. While most cruise ships provide towels, bringing your travel towel and washcloth is always a good idea.

Sunscreen and Bug Spray

When packing for a cruise, sunscreen, and bug spray are two essential items to bring along. The Caribbean sun can be extremely strong, and protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is crucial. Sunscreen helps in preventing sunburns, premature aging, and even skin cancer. Therefore, choosing a sunscreen that suits your skin type and provides adequate protection is essential.

One excellent option is Solimo Sunscreen, available on Amazon. This sunscreen is Octinoxate and Oxybenzone free, which is safe for your skin and the coral reefs. It is also water-resistant, perfect for those water activities during your cruise. And the best part? Solimo Sunscreen is affordable, making it a budget-friendly choice for your vacation.

After a day in the sun, it’s important to soothe and moisturize your skin with some Aloe Very sunburn relief gel or other options. COOLA after-sun lotion is also a great product in your cruise bag. It helps to cool and hydrate your skin, reducing any redness or irritation caused by the sun.

Bug spray is another must-have item, especially when exploring tropical destinations and even during an Alaskan Cruise. Did you know some like to joke that the mosquito is Alaska’s state bird? So be prepared during your cruise. Mosquitoes and other insects can be a nuisance and can potentially transmit diseases.

Lip Balm, Moisturizer, and Other Skin Care Products

Taking care of your skin is essential when going on a cruise, as the combination of ocean breeze and sun can lead to chapped lips and dry skin. That’s why lip balm, moisturizers, and other skincare products are essential for maintaining hydration and protection throughout your trip.

Lip balm is a must-have item to moisturize your lips and prevent them from becoming chapped. Choosing a lip balm with SPF is even more crucial, as this will provide an extra layer of protection against the sun’s harmful rays. Sun Bum Lip balm with SPF is an excellent option as it offers moisturization and sun protection, keeping your lips soft, smooth, and shielded from sunburn.

Aside from lip balm, remember to pack moisturizers for your face and body. The ocean breeze and sun exposure can quickly dry out your skin, leaving it feeling tight and uncomfortable. Using a moisturizer will hydrate your skin and create a barrier against moisture loss. Consider bringing a lightweight moisturizer for daytime use and a richer, nourishing one for nighttime.

In addition to lip balm and moisturizer, it’s a good idea to include hand/body lotion in your cruise packing list. Regularly applying lotion will help keep your skin soft, supple, and protected from dryness. Additionally, remember any other skin care products you usually use, such as day and night treatment creams or serums, to maintain your skin’s health and appearance.

By packing lip balm, moisturizers, and other skincare products, you can ensure your skin stays hydrated and protected during your cruise, allowing you to enjoy your vacation without any discomfort or irritation fully.

Makeup, Nail Polish, Hair Styling Products

Regarding makeup, packing only the bare necessities is vital for a cruise vacation. Opt for travel-sized versions of your favorite products to save space in your luggage. Essentials include mascara, eyeliner, foundation, blusher, makeup brushes, and an eyebrow pencil.

To keep your makeup organized and easily accessible, consider using clear plastic zip-top freezer bags. They allow you to see what’s inside and can prevent any spills or leaks from ruining your other belongings.

As for nail polish, choose a few versatile colors that can match multiple outfits. Choose mini bottles or nail polish strips for convenience and to save space in your suitcase.

Cell Phone Chargers and Cords

You will undoubtedly want to keep your cell phone charged during your cruise. Many modern ships now have USB plugs near the beds, desks, or both locations to help you keep your cell phone and other electronics charged. Most cruise lines also have a cell phone App that can be a must to use before, during, and sometimes even after your cruise ends.

CPAP Users / Other Devices

If you are a CPAP user, you must bring an extension cord that will reach from the desk area of the cabin and across the room to your bedside. Most cruise ships don’t have electrical outlets on the side of the bed near the nightstand.

They may have a USB outlet, but that is about it. Most hotels have an outlet on the bedside lamp or the wall. You may have to unplug the clock using the only outlet. If needed and use your phone as an alarm clock, etc.

The CPAP machine often has a nice-sized cord to lay on the floor to reach your extension cord quickly that you can plug in the outlet in the desk area and use at night. Unplug the extension cord from the desk outlet in the morning and stow it under the bed until bedtime.

Cruise Lanyards

If you are like me and my wife, we don’t collect cruise cards, but we do collect lanyards we have gathered from some special events.

So before we cruise, we look at our collection and try to pick one that will serve us best. You can, of course, buy some onboard, but why not pack one you have purchased in the past. The good ones can get expensive, especially if you buy new ones for the whole family.

If you are like me and my wife, we don’t collect cruise cards, but we do collect lanyards we have gathered from some special events.

So before we cruise, we look at our collection and try to pick one that will serve us best. You can, of course, buy some onboard, but why not pack one you have purchased in the past.

Fanny Pack, Day Pack, Cross Body Purse, or Backpack

My wife likes to bring a small bag, a fanny pack, or even a backpack while we go on a shore excursion. We can often put all our beach towels, cameras, phones, sun tan lotion, or spray.

The bag size and type will depend on what type of excursion you have planned. A small fanny pack or bag would be fine for most shore excursions or tours.

At the same time, a backpack would be a better choice for a beach trip or tour that might require more items or space to hold items you may purchase while away from the ship visiting distant cruise ports.

Reusable Water Bottle and Coffee Mugs

You don’t have to pay for expensive water while on a cruise. They have plenty of free-flowing water. If you want something other than just water, you can often find iced tea, juices, and other flavors in the buffet and other locations onboard.

The cruise line cups are often small, so packing a large reusable water bottle can help you stay cool and hydrated without paying extra for bottled water or a drink package.

You can also do the same thing with the free-flowing coffee. Some cruise lines have some great complimentary coffee and teas available at the same stations you find the cold drinks. Why not bring your insulated mug from home and keep your coffee fresh.

Eye Glass Repair Kit

Finding a proper eyeglass repair kit on a cruise takes work and effort. Some ships sell a small kit in the gift ship. However, The small kit may not have enough screws to fix your type of glasses. So this is now a tiny addition to my list of items to bring on board. It has happened to me and my wife at least three times while cruising.

Medication / First-Aid – Be Prepared If You Get Sick

You should pack all your medication and have enough if your cruise or trip is extended. So we bring the whole bottle and not just a certain amount days.

A medical list is also helpful if you need medical attention while away from home and not in the United States. While on a river cruise in Europe, I suddenly became very sick. I was miserable, and we had to wait to visit a small town and try to find a pharmacy. No stores or pharmacies had Tylenol Cold or Flu-like we have at home.

In brief, we had to talk to a pharmacist in a small French village through the only person who could translate English. Luckily, he prescribed some cough medicine and could give it to me simultaneously. I am still trying to figure out what it was, but it worked. So I pack the following.

1. Pain Relievers – We use ibuprofen or Tylenol. Both can be alternated to help break a fever.

2. Dayquil and Nyquil Severe Cold & Flu – This is an essential part of our travel bag after getting sick while cruising.

3. Prescription Medications – Bring all prescription medications and extra days or the whole bottle if your trip gets extended for any reason.

4. Daily Allergy Relief tablets – We pack generic Zyrtec, a non-drowsy Allergy relief medication.

5. Benadryl Tablets – This is an excellent medication for an unexpected allergic reaction or an allergy flare-up you might experience while traveling. It can help clear up a list of allergic reactions you might come across related to foods, colds, or the environment you are traveling in or through.

6. ZzzQuil Sleep-Aid – Ever have a problem trying to sleep while on an international flight? Pack some of these tablets. You’ll sleep like a baby and be better rested when you land overseas. Far more effective than other remedies like Melatonin. This works!

7. Pepto Bismol – Don’t be surprised if your stomach get’s upset during your cruise. When we travel we often are eating and drinking things we normally don’t. We pack some Pepto Bismol to help soothe an upset stomach. My wife was recently miserable during a cruise in Alaska. Luckily, we had some Pepto Bismol tablets packed and it quickly helped.

8. Pepcid AC – Heartburn Relief medicine is another good thing to have on hand that can often be very concerning but, relieved with OTC medicine.

I hope this list of things to bring on your cruise is helpful to you and saves you any heartache or even a expensive visit to the Medical Center during your cruise.

Here is the Cruise Addicts guide to parking at Florida cruise ports.  Most of these options allow you to pre-plan and often make a reservation so you know the price of parking and you have a reserved parking space. You can also choose to pay via debit or credit card in advance.

PortMiami Parking

Miami is the busiest cruise port in the world, with dozens of cruises departing and arriving each week. The port, accordingly, offers plenty of secure parking at its on-site parking garages and open parking lots. The parking facility also offers a complimentary shuttle service to your cruise terminal. But these spaces come at a hefty price: $22 a night as of 2019. All PortMiami garages and Lot E accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or any major U.S. Traveler’s Check. However, No debit cards are accepted but, credit cards are welcomed.

You can find better prices at the several parking lot facilities in proximity to the port to help you save money.
