A Carnival Cruise passenger has claimed they were charged $500 following an altercation involving two children at the cruise line’s Camp Ocean youth programme, according to a social media post that has generated hundreds of reactions and comments online.
The allegation was shared in a Facebook group by a parent who said the incident occurred during a recent Carnival sailing.
According to the post, the passenger’s seven-year-old son had been checked into Camp Ocean for less than two hours before they went to pick the child up, which is when staff informed the parent that an incident had taken place involving another child in a video game area.
The parent claimed Camp Ocean staff reported that their son had shoved another child, who then allegedly punched him in the face, leaving a bruise on his cheek. The passenger said they spoke with their son about the incident and considered it a lesson about keeping his hands to himself.
The parent further alleged that they were not informed that the other child had suffered any injury during the confrontation.
Family Claims Child Was Allowed To Return To Camp
According to the Facebook post, the family returned to Camp Ocean later the same day and their son was permitted to rejoin the programme.
The passenger said they were asked to meet with Camp Ocean management and ship security, during which they were allegedly advised that future incidents could result in fines ranging from $50 to $500.
The parent also claimed security asked whether they wished to “press charges” against the other child involved in the altercation, an option they said they declined.
The passenger wrote that they requested their son be restricted from the video game area where the disagreement allegedly began, but claimed staff told them that was not possible. The child then reportedly returned to Camp Ocean without any further issues for the remainder of the cruise.
The situation escalated, according to the parent, on the morning of disembarkation when they discovered a $500 charge had been added to their onboard account.
The passenger claimed they immediately approached Guest Services and later spoke with security personnel but were unable to have the charge removed.
“This was our 9th Carnival cruise, and my son has attended Camp Ocean on every single sailing. Never once have we had an issue like this!” the parent wrote.
Social Media Users Question Circumstances Of Charge
The post quickly attracted significant attention, with many commenters questioning how the charge was determined and whether additional information may exist that has not been made public.
Some users expressed support for the parent and suggested disputing the charge through their credit card provider.
“I’d be asking for an incident report in writing and details on how they came to that dollar as a fine amount,” one commenter wrote.
Another added: “That sounds ridiculous to me.”
Others questioned whether there was more to the story than had been disclosed.
“Me thinks there is more to this story…” one commenter wrote, while another commented: “Seems like there is three sides to this story. 1. Her side. 2. Their side. 3. The truth.”
Several commenters also questioned whether the family of the second child involved in the alleged altercation had faced any disciplinary action or financial penalty.
It remains unclear from the Facebook post what specific policy the alleged charge was linked to, whether Carnival provided written documentation explaining the fee, or whether the passenger intends to formally challenge the charge.
Carnival has not publicly commented on the allegations, and no official incident report or supporting evidence has been released at the time of publication.
