Celebrity Cruises Swaps Concierge Class Canapés for Free Room Service

Celebrity Cruises has quietly changed one of the perks included in its Concierge Class stateroom category, dropping the daily afternoon canapés in favor of complimentary room service and a small embarkation-day gift. For sailings departing after September 21, 2026, guests booked into Concierge Class will notice the change reflected in the line’s updated list of benefits.

Concierge Class is Celebrity’s mid-tier stateroom upgrade, designed to give guests a few extra touches beyond a standard cabin without stepping all the way up to a suite. Until now, one of its signature perks was a daily delivery of afternoon “delectable delights” — small bites such as fruit, cheese, shrimp, sushi, hummus, charcuterie, and desserts, tailored where possible to guest preferences.

What’s Changing

Going forward, that daily snack delivery is being replaced by two benefits: complimentary room service, with the standard delivery fee waived, and two bottles of water delivered to the stateroom on embarkation day. Celebrity currently charges a flat fee per room service order plus a 20% gratuity charge, a policy that has applied fleetwide since late 2022. Concierge Class guests will still owe the gratuity, but the per-order fee itself will no longer apply to them.

Other Concierge Class perks, including the Welcome Aboard lunch, personalized concierge service, and upgraded stateroom features, remain unchanged. Celebrity has not made a formal public announcement about the canapé change, and as with most cruise line amenities, these benefits remain subject to availability and can be adjusted at any time.

Why Guests Are Happy About It

Unlike many benefit cuts, this one appears to be landing well with passengers. On a widely shared Reddit thread, reaction to the news was largely celebratory rather than critical, with commenters recalling the canapés as inconsistent at best. Descriptions ranged from unflattering to downright unappetizing, with one guest calling the offerings “always delightfully horrific” and joking about looking forward to whatever “jiggly lukewarm concoction awaited” them each day.

Beyond taste, there were practical concerns. Because canapés were often delivered whether or not guests were in their stateroom, some items meant to be chilled could sit out for hours before being eaten — raising food safety questions and, in many cases, leading to waste when the snacks went untouched altogether.

What It Means for Passengers

For travelers booking Concierge Class, the swap effectively trades a hit-or-miss snack tray for more flexibility. Rather than receiving a preset selection at a set time, guests can now order items they actually want from room service, whenever they want them, without paying the usual delivery fee. That should mean less wasted food and a perk that’s easier to actually enjoy.

It’s a reminder that cruise line benefits are rarely fixed for good — lines routinely fine-tune what’s included based on guest feedback, costs, and operational realities. For anyone with an upcoming Concierge Class booking on Celebrity, it’s worth checking the current list of included perks before sailing, since amenities can shift between the time of booking and departure.
