A passenger aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas was confined to her cabin for the remainder of her cruise after a dispute in a theatre escalated into a physical altercation, with the incident now drawing widespread attention online.

The guest, Claudette, shared her experience on TikTok, where a video describing the situation has been viewed more than 1.7 million times since it was posted on 22nd March 2026.
She claims she acted in self-defence after being struck by another passenger during a disagreement over seating following a “Battle of the Sexes” game show.
According to Claudette, the confrontation began after she and members of her group briefly left their seats, only to find them taken upon returning. While she initially accepted the situation, tensions rose when she attempted to move past another guest to find alternative seating.
She alleged that the other woman became confrontational and then smacked her hand, prompting her to retaliate with a punch. In a follow-up video, Claudette said the strike was not forceful, but intended as a reaction to being touched.

A second confrontation reportedly followed involving members of both parties, further escalating the situation before security intervened.
Cabin Confinement Measures Detailed
Following the incident, Claudette said she was placed under stateroom confinement rather than being taken to the ship’s brig. She described a series of measures implemented during this period, including the removal of certain items from her cabin such as cables, a desk chair, shower curtains and the showerhead.
She also stated that a security officer was stationed outside her cabin at all times, with checks carried out every 30 minutes throughout the day and night. During confinement, she was restricted to ordering food and drinks via room service and required to keep at least one light on in the room.
“All this because someone smacked me and I defended myself,” she said in one of the videos.

Claudette added that she was allowed to keep her phone due to her cooperation with onboard security.
Cruise Line Policy On Guest Conduct
Royal Caribbean’s guest conduct policy prohibits all forms of inappropriate or abusive behaviour, including physical altercations. The rules state that uninvited physical contact, harassment and violence are not permitted under any circumstances.
Violations can result in a range of consequences, from confinement to disembarkation at the next port and even a lifetime ban from the cruise line. The company also reserves the right to separate individuals it believes may pose a risk to others.

Claudette claimed that security focused primarily on the fact that she had thrown a punch, which is classified as assault, while the initial contact from the other party was treated differently.
It remains unclear whether the other individuals involved faced disciplinary action. Royal Caribbean has not publicly commented on the incident.
The 154,407 gross ton Liberty of the Seas recently completed its Bahamas sailings from Fort Lauderdale and is currently repositioning to Southampton, where it is due to arrive on 19th April 2026. The ship will then undergo a dry dock refurbishment before beginning its European season on 29th May.
While Claudette confirmed she has not been banned from sailing with the cruise line, she indicated she has no plans to return to the ship in the near future.
