Nor Cruises Signs MOU For Up To Five New Cruise Ships

Nor Cruises, a little-known Norwegian maritime company, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding for two new cruise ships plus options for three more, potentially opening the door to the first large cruise ships built in China for a foreign operator.

Cruise Industry News reports the vessels at roughly 82,000 gross tons, while the South China Morning Post, citing Waigaoqiao, reports 84,000 tons. The agreement was signed at SMM Hamburg and remains an MOU rather than a final construction contract. Few details have been disclosed about delivery dates, onboard product, deployment or how Nor Cruises plans to operate the proposed fleet.
