Passengers boarding Norwegian Getaway today, August 24, will have an unusual embarkation night in Miami: the ship is scheduled to remain at PortMiami overnight and depart at 3 a.m. on August 25 instead of leaving at 4 p.m. as originally planned.
Norwegian Cruise Line told booked guests the adjustment is tied to the commissioning of PortMiami’s shore-power system, according to Cruise Industry News. Shore power allows ships to connect to the local electrical grid while docked, reducing the need to run ship engines in port. The four-night Bahamas itinerary is still scheduled to continue after the delayed departure.
