Norwegian Prima Hot Tubs Closed Amid Legionnaires’ Disease Investigation

Norwegian Cruise Line has temporarily closed public hot tubs and private balcony heated whirlpools aboard Norwegian Prima while it investigates three reported cases of Legionnaires’ disease involving passengers who sailed on the ship in May and July 2026. In a passenger notification dated August 29, NCL said it is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and that testing conducted so far on faucets, showers, hot tubs, and other water-related equipment has been negative for Legionella bacteria.

The cruise line has not established that the infections originated aboard Norwegian Prima, and the specific sailings involved have not been publicly identified. The hot tubs and heated whirlpools are being kept closed as a precaution until additional sampling is completed and any necessary remediation is carried out in accordance with CDC guidance.
