How To See All Your Cruises in One Place – For Free!

In a digital world where everything is trackable, live cruise ship tracking has finally caught up.

The Cruise Globe – a completely free, ad-free, fully 3D-enabled platform that’s redefining how cruise fans follow ships around the world.

Not only can you track ships in real time, but you can use this data to track your own cruise history in unprecendented detail.

Cruise Globe and Cruise Maps

Unlike older tracking tools, The Cruise Globe offers real-time positions and route mapping of every cruise ship globally, with a personalised and interactive experience never seen before.

And it’s all from the fantastic team behind Cruise Maps – which I want to tell you more about too.

A Leap Forward in Cruise Tracking

Over 4 million people use live cruise tracking apps each month. That number is only expected to grow, with 37 million passengers projected to cruise in 2025.

But until now, live ship tracking was functional at best – often clunky, ad-heavy, and imprecise. The Cruise Globe changes that.

Cruise Globe Screenshot

Powered by AIS satellite data, users can now track cruise ships in real time with pinpoint accuracy.

Every vessel is visible on a 3D satellite-view map, complete with detailed stats like speed, number of passengers, current position, and anticipated routes.

Whether you’re watching a loved one’s journey or reminiscing about a past trip, The Cruise Globe brings cruising into the digital age.

But it’s not just about watching.

Users can catalogue their cruise history, log upcoming sailings, and even relive past journeys with detailed route replay on an interactive map. I love the idea of having a library of everywhere I’ve sailed!

And yes – it’s all free to use.

Already there are 45,000 people using The Cruise Globe and it’s continuing to grow rapidly, so make sure you check it out.

The Cruise Globe App Is Coming Soon

The Cruise Globe is already mobile-optimised, but the team is going one step further.

The team are aiming to launch a mobile app later this year, allowing users to carry their entire cruise history, live tracking, and future bookings in their pocket.

“Our aim is to make The Cruise Globe the single digital app for everyone’s cruising needs. The next logical step towards this was to show the live positions of every cruise ship.

“This is still entirely free-to-use and will also be part of our mobile app that we’re releasing later this summer. The whole cruise mapping experience including users’ upcoming cruise bookings will soon be available in their pocket, all in one place.”

Matthew Jones, co-founder of The Cruise Globe

From Print Maps to a Global Cruise Community

If The Cruise Globe sounds familiar, it might be because it’s the latest project from the creators of Cruise Maps – the world’s first personalised cruise mapping product.

Cruise Maps

Cruise Maps allows passengers to create bespoke prints of their journeys, featuring accurate port stops, ship routes, and travel statistics.

The idea was born from the minds of Matthew Jones and Will Ellison, two long-time friends with backgrounds in start-ups and naval architecture, respectively.

Together with cruise content creator Emma Le Teace (better known as Emma Cruises), they’ve turned their passion for ships and travel into a full-blown tech platform.

Cruise Globe and Cruise Maps Team

From beautifully printed keepsakes to a powerful digital platform with over 45,000 users in 100+ countries, the trio has built a fast-growing community of cruise enthusiasts.

The Cruise Globe has already logged over 235,000 sailings – and it’s just getting started.

Cruise Smarter, Share More

Whether you’re a seasoned cruiser, a data nerd, or someone who just wants a better way to track and share their travels, The Cruise Globe offers a new kind of cruise companion.

The platform even lets users compare cruise histories, track how many ports and ships they’ve visited, and share stats with friends or fellow passengers.

With ambitious plans to hit 100,000 users by year-end, the team is tapping into the competitive – and proudly nostalgic – spirit of cruise fans around the world.

Definitely make sure you check out The Cruise Globe, and take a look at Cruise Maps too to get some beautiful printed keepsakes of your sailings.

Radical Storage’s Luggage Storage In Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a city best explored on foot, by bike, or even from the deck of a slow-moving boat. With its charming canals, historical architecture, and world-renowned museums, it’s a destination that invites spontaneity and freedom. But there’s one thing that can turn an otherwise magical day into a logistical nightmare—luggage.

Whether travelers have just checked out of a hotel or have hours to kill before an Airbnb check-in, dragging heavy bags around the city can seriously cramp the experience. That’s where Radical Storage comes in, offering a seamless solution for luggage storage in Amsterdam.

The Burden of Bags in a Free-Spirited City

Amsterdam’s cobblestone streets, narrow stairs, and public transit were not thought out with large luggage in mind. At the canal bridges travelers drag suitcases around and at the Van Gogh Museum they’ll have hands full watching over backpacks which is not very pleasant, in fact it is tiring. Also at main train stations like Amsterdam Centraal, it is seen that there is limited storage or very long queues—far from what travelers expect at the beginning or end of a trip.

That is why luggage storage services are on the rise in top tourist destinations, and in Amsterdam they are very much in use.

Radical Storage: A Network Built for Travelers

Radical Storage is known to be the most convenient and guest-oriented storage in the city. Instead of having lockers in a few central locations, what the company has done is develop a wide network of partner locations—cafes, hotels, shops, and offices—which are spread all over Amsterdam. Also, with this go-ahead approach, travelers can rest assured that no matter where in the city they are, there is a secure drop-off point nearby.

Unlike traditional lockers that have size and time-based restrictions, Radical Storage provides:

  • No size limits for bags
  • Flat out daily rates which also do not base charges on the weight or dimensions of luggage
  • Coverage up to €3000 per item
  • Easy online booking through the website or app

This degree of security allows guests to go where they will, knowing their things are just a short block away.

Luggage Storage in Amsterdam: Locations That Matter

In Amsterdam, what makes Radical Storage stand out is the location of their storage facilities. As travelers explore the Jordaan district, ride through Vondelpark, visit the Rijksmuseum, or board a canal cruise near Dam Square, a storage option is very easy to find.

At Amsterdam Centraal station, which is the point of arrival or departure, there are storage options nearby which make the transition between travel and sightseeing easy. Also, for passengers going to or from Schiphol Airport, Radical Storage has luggage storage at key transfer points—which is great for dropping off bags before a flight or once landed.

By choosing Radical Storage, travelers eliminate the restrictions of regular check-in and check-out times, allowing them to make full use of their stay in the city.

A Travel Lifestyle Upgrade

In the age of digital nomads and short stay getaways, what travelers want is flexibility. Radical Storage is designed for that lifestyle which is all about being on the go and making the most of every city. Would someone like to check into a different neighborhood with all the boutique shops they could wish for? It’s entirely possible to check out of accommodation and head straight to a local brewery or canal-side cafe. Radical Storage helps travelers do it with ease.

Radical Storage is a service that promotes slower, more deliberate travel. Free from the burden of luggage—literally in this case—travelers are able to act spontaneously: renting a bike, joining a guided walk, or simply wandering off the beaten path.

How It Works: Booking in Minutes

Radical Storage’s check-in for luggage in Amsterdam is easy and intuitive.

  • Visit https://radicalstorage.com/luggage-storage/amsterdam
  • Enter the current location in Amsterdam
  • Check out nearby storage options based on convenience and opening times
  • Book online for a reservation that includes directions
  • Leave the bag at the chosen partner location
  • Explore at your own pace and return when ready to collect items

No printout required, and Radical Storage has support staff available should any questions arise during booking.

Security You Can Trust

One major concern travelers have is the security of their possessions. Radical Storage addresses this by carefully selecting each partner location and providing insurance for stored items. Each bag is tagged at the gate and stored in a secure, off-limits area—meaning items aren’t just left out in a shop somewhere.

This is especially valuable for storing expensive items like cameras or electronics, providing peace of mind while out and about in the city.

What About Competitors?

While there are other luggage storage options in Amsterdam—such as Bounce, Stasher, and LuggageHero—many of these impose size restrictions or offer variable pricing based on location and duration. Radical Storage, by contrast, offers a flat rate model and a wide range of vetted local partners, making it a great choice for travelers who value easy and straightforward service.

Final Thoughts: Travel Light, Travel Smart

Amsterdam’s beauty is in its simplicity—canals that wind like works of art, neighborhoods rich in history, and an atmosphere that encourages exploration. Don’t let luggage stop anyone from seeing it all.

Radical Storage offers travelers the flexibility, security, and affordability they need for their luggage in Amsterdam, helping them get the most out of every moment in the city. Whether during layovers, between hotel stays, or any time bags are in the way, Radical Storage is the modern choice for a better travel experience.

What’s Next for Celebration Key? Phase 2 and More

One week ago today, Carnival Cruise Line opened up their new private port on Grand Bahama Island, Celebration Key.

celebration Key phase 2
Red arrow shows where Phase 2 will be built out at Celebration Key.

Even though the port is now open, Carnival has far bigger plans for this port than what they’ve already built. Now that Phase 1 is complete and cruisers are now enjoining this slice of paradise, what’s next?

Carnival Cruise Line has only developed 68 out of 379 acres. Since 110 acres are set aside for a wetlands preserve, that leaves another 154 acres for future expansion.

Phase 2

When I was at Celebration Key for the grand opening, a Carnival executive told me that Phase 2 will be built east of Phase 1.  In the photo above, you can see the red arrow pointing to the area where Phase 2 will be built.

The land has already been cleared but where will Carnival build here?

While exact details and a timeline for Phase 2 are unknown at this time, Carnival has previously said they have plans to build a waterpark at the port. It would be one of the phases after the first one is complete.

Expanded Pier

pier extension at Celebration Key

Right now, the pier at Celebration Key can accommodate up to two ships at the same time. An extension, as you can see above, is currently under construction and being added to the main pier.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said that once it is complete, it will be able to accommodate four ships a day. This includes the new 230,000 gross ton ships Carnival has on order. No Carnival ship will be too big to dock at Celebration Key.

Although Carnival has not given a timeline for the opening of the pier extension, September 12, 2025 is the first day where three Carnival cruise ships are scheduled to visit Celebration Key on the same day.

Carnival only has a handful of days from September 2025 through February 2026 where three ships will be in port on the same time.

Pearl Cove Beach Club

beach club expansion

As more ships and passengers visit Celebration Key, the adults-only Pearl Cove Beach Club may need to be expanded.

Carnival told me that they can expand the beach club if necessary. As you can see in the photo above, area to the west of the beach club is clear and will allow the cruise line to expand it as the port grows.

The above photos came from a photo that Carnival Cruise Line sent out this week when the first Excel class ship, Mardi Gras, visited Celebration Key. You can see the entire photo taken from a drone below.

excel class ship at Celebration Key

In the first year that Celebration Key is open, Carnival expects two million guests to visit the port. That number is expected to grow to four million by 2028 when future phases of the port are open.

Cruise Fever will have all information on future phases and expansion of Celebration Key when they are announced by Carnival.

Princess Cruises Makes Changes To New Packages Based On Guest Backlash

Princess Cruises has responded to guest criticism by updating its recently revised Plus add-on package – a move that came just days after the original changes were introduced.

Princess cruise ship in Alaska

The cruise line, part of the Carnival Corporation family, initially sparked backlash by adjusting its beverage policy so that non-alcoholic drinks would count toward the 15-drink daily limit under the Plus package.

Previously, only alcoholic beverages were included in that cap.

But the cruise line has now issued a press release with updates to that limit.

“We wanted to share an update following the Premier and Plus Packages changes earlier this week. In listening to our Princess community, we have made a change – specialty coffee and teas are now unlimited in our Plus package and will not count towards the 15-drink daily limit.”

Mixed Reactions as Soft Drinks Remain Limited

Despite the adjustment, many guests remain unhappy.

Soft drinks such as Coca-Cola or Diet Coke will still count toward the 15-drink daily maximum, even though alcoholic beverages and soft drinks are both unlimited under the Premier package, which costs more.

“Been on 11 Princess Cruises and already booked numbers 12 and 13… very, very disappointed with Princess’ decision to have [soft drinks] count towards 15 a day,” one long-time cruiser wrote. “Princess seems to be pushing everyone towards the Premium package.”

Others pointed out how the update favours coffee and tea drinkers over those who prefer fizzy drinks or water.

“That’s lovely for coffee and tea drinkers, but you are disadvantaging those of us who drink neither and prefer Diet Coke or water,” said another guest. “Wish you could identify as a non-coffee drinker and get cans of soda not counting towards the day’s total.”

Price Increases and Added Perks in 2026 Sailings

The revised Premier and Plus packages went on sale on 22nd July 2025 and will apply to voyages sailing in 2026 and beyond.

Princess Cruises' Coffee

The updates include price increases for US guests, although UK passengers will only see increases on select ships:

  • Premier Package: Now $100/£75 per person per day (US price up $10), with unlimited drinks (alcoholic and soft), shore excursion credits from $100 to $300 depending on cruise length, and other perks.
  • Plus Package: Now $65/£50 per person per day (US price up $5), offering 15 drinks per day (including now unlimited specialty coffees/teas), four casual dining meals per cruise (up from two), and basic WiFi.

On the new Sphere Class ships – Sun Princess and the upcoming Star Princess – both packages will cost an additional $5/£5 per day.

Guest Feedback Still Influencing Policy

While not all passengers are satisfied, many applauded the cruise line for listening to feedback and responding quickly.

Princess Plus sign

Princess Cruises has positioned these changes as part of a wider effort to enhance onboard flexibility and value, especially for travellers looking to personalise their cruise experience.

Expanding casual dining access and increasing shore excursion benefits were aimed at making the packages more attractive without making them compulsory.

Still, with soft drinks remaining limited under the Plus plan, the debate continues – and the cruise line may need to make further tweaks to strike the right balance.

Cruiser Shares Details Of Their $10k Medical Bill Onboard

A recent Norwegian Cruise Line passenger has caused a stir online after sharing a medical bill from the ship’s onboard clinic totalling close to $10,000 – significantly more than many cruise fares themselves.

Norwegian Escape Medical Bill

The charges were incurred during Norwegian Escape’s Western Caribbean voyage that departed Miami on 13th July 2025.

The passenger, who remains anonymous, posted the bill on Reddit with the caption: “Don’t get sick on a cruise ship”, sparking over 1,300 comments in a matter of hours.

While no details were provided regarding the medical emergency or the treatment received, the bill was clearly marked “EMERGENCY CARE” and dated 19th July 2025, indicating the treatment occurred during the voyage and was charged to the guest’s onboard folio.

Eye-Watering Breakdown of Charges

Though only the first page of the four-page document was shared, it reveals a striking list of expenses:

  • $199 – New patient consultation
  • $43 – Blood draw
  • $274 – SARS-CoV-2, flu, and RSV testing
  • $109 – Pulse oximetry
  • $131 (×8) – IV infusions
  • $380.27 – Medical supplies
  • $618.59 – Medications

Among the most frequently questioned costs were eight separate charges for IV infusions, each at $131, suggesting a potentially duplicated or excessive billing for routine treatment.

One commenter, self-identified as a physician, pointed out that multiple entries like these, along with identical $219 charges for both “admission doctor consult” and “admission to medical centre,” may indicate duplicate billing.

NCL Medical Bill

If challenged successfully, such disputes could reduce the total owed significantly – though not eliminate it entirely.

Insurance, Accountability, and a Cautionary Tale

The post has reignited debate about the need for comprehensive travel insurance, particularly on cruises where access to medical care is limited to onboard facilities – often operated by third-party providers and not included in the standard cruise fare.

Many seasoned cruisers in the Reddit thread strongly advocated for securing adequate insurance before any voyage.

However, experts caution that policies vary, and not all cover emergency care or medical repatriation.

Reimbursement may depend on policy terms, what procedures were authorised, and whether duplicates can be clarified or removed.

The incident also serves as a reminder for travellers to carefully review their onboard account before disembarking.

Mistaken charges for drinks, spa services, or excursions are not uncommon and are difficult to dispute once the cruise has ended.

Guests can verify charges through their stateroom televisions, onboard kiosks, or directly at Guest Services.

Large Medical Bills Not Uncommon

Other guests in the past have shared their own stories of unexpectedly high medical bills on a cruise.

Doctor and patient talking on a cruise

One US couple’s dream cruise turned into a financial nightmare when a flu diagnosis resulted in a $47,000 medical bill aboard Norwegian Encore.

Mike Cameron and his partner Tamra Masterman had won the Caribbean cruise, but after Cameron fell ill and needed treatment over several days, the cruise line charged two credit cards on file – maxing both out – and left them with a remaining balance of $21,000.

Despite having purchased travel insurance through Norwegian Cruise Line, the couple struggled to get any reimbursement.

Their insurer required them to claim through their domestic health provider first, which refused to cover the treatment because it was received abroad.

This left the couple in limbo, dealing with mounting interest and concerns about long-term financial consequences.

Norwegian Cruise Line defended its pricing, stating the charges were in line with industry norms, though later acknowledged it was reviewing whether the fees were typical for flu care.

The case highlights both the high cost of onboard medical services and the potential gaps in cruise insurance coverage – particularly when it comes to coordination with national health systems.

Onboard Medical Costs at Sea

Cruise ship medical facilities are usually well-equipped for emergencies, but they are private operations and function outside national healthcare systems.

Treatment costs can be high, often comparable to private emergency care rates on land – particularly in US dollars.

Norwegian Escape, one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Breakaway-Plus class ships, can carry over 4,200 guests and sails varied Caribbean itineraries from Miami.

The onboard medical team is trained to handle a wide range of issues, but passengers are ultimately responsible for all associated costs unless covered by insurance.

This case underscores the financial risks of needing care at sea and adds to ongoing discussions about transparency and oversight in cruise ship healthcare pricing.

Princess Cruises Makes Change Due to Feedback from Cruisers

Earlier this week, Princess Cruises announced changes to their Premier and Plus packages that included higher prices and different perks.

princess cruise ship

The price for the Premier Package went up $10 a day with the Plus Package rising by $5. While a few seldomly used perks were taken away, others were added like a shore excursion credit for Premier and more casual meals per cruise for Plus.

However, the biggest change that upset cruisers was that soda, specialty coffees and teas would now count toward the allowance of 15 drinks a day for those who purchased the Plus Package. Previously, only alcoholic drinks counted toward the limit of 15 drinks each day.

Princess Cruises sent an email to Cruise Fever this afternoon letting us know about a change they made after receiving feedback from cruisers.

From now on, specialty coffees and teas will be unlimited and not count towards the 15 drink daily limit for guests who purchase the Plus Package. However, fountain soda and Zero Alcohol cocktails will count towards the 15 drinks.

Statement from Princess Cruises:

“We wanted to share an update following the Premier and Plus Packages changes announced earlier this week. In listening to our Princess community, we have made a change – specialty coffee and teas are now unlimited in our Plus package and will not count towards the 15-drink daily limit.”

The Premier Package, which costs $35 more per day, does not have a daily limit on drinks.

To see exactly what’s included in each package, you can view that here on Princess.com.

Explora-Journeys-2.jpg

9 Things Explora Journeys Does Better Than Other Cruise Lines

After more than 40 cruises, I’ve finally found my favourite cruise line!

Explora Journeys is a new ultra-luxury cruise brand from MSC, but don’t let that fool you. It’s nothing like MSC Cruises!

First setting sail in 2023, Explora Journeys was created to redefine ocean travel by blending the relaxed elegance of a superyacht with the thoughtful detail of a five-star resort. I was invited onboard the cruise line’s second ship, Explora II. And after sailing with them, I can confidently say: mission accomplished.

Here’s what makes Explora Journeys stand out – and why I’m already planning my next cruise with them.

1. Every Room Is A Suite

Explora Journeys’ ships have no inside cabins – every guest stays in a spacious suite with a large balcony.

The entry-level Ocean Terrace Suite is 35 m² (that’s about twice the size of an average cruise ship balcony cabin). It comes with:

  1. A private sun terrace with a daybed and dining table
  2. Walk-in wardrobe omplete with fluffy white robes and slippers
  3. Dyson hair dryer and luxury toiletries
  4. Binoculars and a seleciton of books
  5. Minibar stocked based on your preferences and welcome Champagne
  6. Refillable water bottles to keep

Even the entry-level suite felt more luxurious than many mini-suites I’ve had on other lines. Take a look at this video for a closer look at the room…

💡 Tip: You can choose your preferred wine before boarding. I asked for rosé and it was waiting, chilled, in my fridge.

2. Pretty Much Everything Is Included

At first glance, Explora’s fares might seem high. But what you get is serious value.

Your cruise fare includes:

  • Premium drinks (cocktails, wine, champagne, fancy coffees)
  • All restaurants (except one)
  • Gratuities
  • High-speed Wi-Fi
  • Thermal spa access
  • Fitness classes and use of Technogym
  • In-port shuttle transfers
  • Mini bar and welcome Champagne

As James Cole, founder of Panache Cruises, once told me, “It’s not what you pay to get on the ship — it’s what you pay to get off.”

And that’s so true! With Explora Journeys, there are no surprises on your final bill.

Even items that are typically upsells elsewhere — like sauna access, still and sparkling water in your room, barista coffee or room service breakfasts — are included. I loved being able to just enjoy everything without worrying about my onboard spend.

cocktails on Explora Journeys

And if you choose to stay in a Penthouse or Residence, you get even more included! I’ll have a full guide to exactly what you get coming soon, so look out for that.

3. There Are So Many Included Dining Options

Explora offers five restaurants that are included in the cruise fare:

  • Emporium Marketplace: A refined buffet alternative with plated service, 18 counters, sushi, pasta, carvery, and more
  • Fil Rouge: Upscale French cuisine
  • Sakura: Pan-Asian flavours and sushi
  • Med Yacht Club: Mediterranean classics
  • Marble & Co. Grill: Contemporary European steakhouse

There’s also Anthology, a tasting-menu restaurant curated by guest chefs (extra cost).

Room service is more than just snacks — you can have full breakfast delivered and served on your balcony. The crew member didn’t jsut deliver the tray, he set the whole table! It’s one of the best cruise breakfasts I’ve ever had.

balcony breakfast

The buffet doesn’t feel like a buffet as the tables are already set with cutlery and glassware and the drinks are always flowing. The moment you’ve finished, your plate is cleared away.

Special dietary needs? No problem. Menus are clearly labelled for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options, and staff are well-trained to accommodate any special requests.

Explora Journeys fil rouge fruit salad

In my opinion, Explora Journeys is one of the best cruise lines for vegans thanks to the wide choice of options, the clear labelling and the helpfullness of the crew members.

4. You’ll Find No Crowds

Explora I and Explora II each carry just 900 guests across 14 decks, giving them the space of a large ship with the vibe of a boutique hotel. There’s no need to queue for anything and you’ll always find a choice of places to sit, whether you want a daybed in the sun or a shady cabana.

Explora Journeys cabanas

Even on sea days, it never felt busy. You could always find a quiet nook or an empty hot tub.

The ship had the tranquil feel of a port day, even when everyone was on board. If you love the serenity of an uncrowded cruise, this is the gold standard.

5. The Service Is Intuitive, Not Overbearing

Explora Journeys offers 1 crew member for every 1.25 guests – that’s exceptional. Yet the service strikes a perfect balance. It’s personal, but never intrusive.

The crew members are friendly, relaxed, and happy to chat, which is lovely. But there’s no forced small talk or memorised names. They’ll help when you need it, and disappear when you don’t.

Compared to other luxury lines, it felt less formal but just as attentive. I much prefer the understated excellence over silver service theatre.

Explora Journeys buffet

6. The Ships Are Beautifully Modern

From the moment you board, you notice how calming the ship feels.

The ship features an elegant navy and gold exterior, setting the tone for the understated luxury within. Inside, the décor leans towards pale greys, soft beige tones, and modern art, creating a calm and sophisticated atmosphere. Oversized elevators and wide, quiet corridors add to the sense of space and serenity, with no bold patterns or jazzy carpets in sight.

It feels like a chic boutique hotel at sea. Even small touches – like plush loungers, ambient lighting, fresh flowers – all add to the sense of calm and comfort.

7. There’s A Focus on Wellness

Health and wellbeing are core to the Explora Jouneys ethos. Guests can enjoy:

  • A top-tier Technogym-equipped fitness centre
  • An outdoor gym with sea views
  • Guided meditation, yoga, and sound baths
  • Free thermal suite access (sauna, steam, salt room, hydrotherapy pool)
  • A spa offering facials, massages and wellness treatments (extra charge)

Menus also feature healthy options throughout, with fresh fruit, grains, plant-based meals, and lighter desserts available daily.

If you want to rest, recharge and feel good – this is the ship.

8. It’s Surprisingly Great for Families

Explora Journeys might be ultra-luxury, but it’s not adults-only. In fact, it’s ideal for multigenerational trips.

Nautilus Club

The Nautilus Club welcomes children and teens aged 6 to 17. It’s a small but well-equipped space offering video games, a pool table, table football and arts and crafts.

There are organised and supervised activities at certain times, but at other times the room is just open for kids to come in and have fun. I love this because it means that siblings of all ages can spend time together, rather than being confined to age groupings.

Just outside, the swimming pools, hot tubs and sport courts are also family-friendly, making it easy for everyone to enjoy time together.

Explora II Pool Deck

There are no waterslides, climbing walls or splash parks, but in my experience, most children don’t need al that to have a great holiday. In the evenings there are family-friendly activities like quizzes, karaoke, silent disco and movies on the big screen.

Explora Journeys movies under the stars

Even when sailing during term time, the handful of children on board seemed to be having a fantastic time.

9. The Itineraries Are Extra Special

Explora Journeys doesn’t just follow the crowds. Their itineraries include:

  • Smaller, lesser-visited ports
  • Longer port stays and overnight calls
  • Minimal port overlaps with other ships
Explora Journeys destinations

You can cruise the Mediterranean in the summer and the Caribbean in the winter, of course. But you’ll also have opportunities to explore Alaska, Iceland and Greenland, the Middle East, South America and more.

Avoiding the conventional port arrival and departure times means that you can enjoy evenings ashore, or even visit two ports in one day when it makes sense to do so.

Final Thoughts

From the stunning suites and serene atmosphere to the wellness focus and exceptional inclusions, Explora Journeys has completely won me over.

If you want luxury without stuffiness, space without crowds, and service without showiness — you’ll absolutely love it here.

Tragedy As Crew Member Goes Overboard From World’s Largest Cruise Ship & Passes Away

Guests and crew aboard Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas experienced a distressing emergency on Thursday evening, 24th July 2025, when a crew member was reported overboard while the ship was at sea near the Bahamas.

The 'Icon of the Seas' cruise ship by Royal Caribbean sails on calm seas during a vibrant sunset, with a coastal landscape in the background. This massive white ship features an array of amenities visible on the top decks, including colorful water slides and outdoor pools.

Despite an immediate and coordinated rescue operation which saw the crew member recovered from the water, it was later confirmed that they had died.

The overboard alert was issued around 7 pm with the sounding of the “Oscar” code – the maritime emergency signal for a man overboard – broadcast over the ship’s public address system.

The vessel, the world’s largest cruise ship at 248,663 gross tons, responded immediately by slowing and reversing course to the last known location.

Some videos were circulated on social media showing the moments that the crew member had gone overboard and their recovery.

Social media videos showed guests and crew trying to locate the overboard crew member

In a statement, Royal Caribbean confirmed:

“Our crew immediately initiated a search and rescue operation, but unfortunately the crew member passed away. We extend our condolences to the crew member’s family and loved ones. To respect their privacy, we have no additional details to share.”

Satellite tracking confirms the ship altered course northeast of San Salvador Island, approximately 200 miles from Nassau, as part of the rescue operation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the individual had gone overboard from the port side and that life preservers were quickly deployed to mark the area.

Guests also noted that portions of the outer decks were closed off as the crew launched a rescue craft.

The crew member, reportedly wearing a uniform, was located and recovered, but sadly could not be saved. This was later confirmed by the cruise line.

Itinerary Unimpacted

Despite the seriousness of the incident, Icon of the Seas resumed its course within the hour.

The ship is currently on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean sailing that departed Miami on Saturday, 19th July.

So far, the itinerary has included stops in St. Maarten and St. Thomas, with a final call at Perfect Day at CocoCay on Friday 25th July.

No itinerary delays are expected at this time.

An Emotional Moment Onboard

Guests described the incident as harrowing, noting the quick and calm professionalism of the crew during the emergency.

A follow-up announcement was made by the ship’s captain confirming the individual had been recovered, though no additional information was shared with guests onboard.

While overboard incidents remain rare, they are almost always met with an immediate and well-drilled response from cruise ship crews. In this case, despite every effort, the outcome was a tragic one.

This marks another sombre reminder of the risks at sea, following a similar incident in March 2025 when a guest went overboard from Explorer of the Seas and was never recovered.

Royal Caribbean and the broader cruise community are now mourning the loss of one of their own.
