Woman Arrested at Cruise Port; Accused of Embezzling from Church

Many people take cruises to get away from it all and escape the pressures of life for a while. But one would-be cruise passenger was not able to find the “escape” she was looking for, as Karen Bryan, 64, was taken into custody before her cruise even began.

Woman arrested trying to board ship in Alaska

Bryan was wanted for the alleged embezzlement of thousands of dollars from a local church in Laramie County, Wyoming, and apprehended in Alaska while attempting to board a cruise ship.

The exact ship and cruise line have not been disclosed by the Sheriff’s Office, but the entire operation involved coordinated efforts between states.

The arrest was worked out between Alaska authorities and the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and news of the arrest made waves when Sheriff Brian Kozak posted a Facebook video explaining the incident.

While specific details regarding the church involved or the exact amount of money allegedly embezzled haven’t been released by the Sheriff’s Office, the update showed the cooperation that led to Bryan’s capture far from Wyoming.

“Our deputies are responsible for picking up wanted fugitives throughout the United States,” Sheriff Kozak said in the video.

He then specifically addressed Bryan’s case: “There was one person who was wanted here locally for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars from a church. She was contacted by law enforcement in Alaska as she was boarding a cruise ship, and has been arrested.”

“So, our deputies are currently fighting over who is going to get to go to Alaska to extradite her back here to Laramie County,” Sheriff Kozak said, adding that the task would likely fall to the department’s new warrants division.

The circumstances of Bryan’s arrest — attempting to leave the country on a cruise ship — don’t paint the full picture, though.  And the full details of her flight from Wyoming have not yet been disclosed.

Some local reports, often citing the same “Sheriff’s Update” video, indicate that the alleged embezzlement involved a significant sum, though an exact figure hasn’t been officially confirmed by the Sheriff’s Office.

It’s common for details in cases like this to be kept private until official charges are filed and the investigation is finished. Once Bryan is brought back to Laramie County, we expect more information about the specific charges she faces and how much money was allegedly embezzled will become public.

Karen Bryan will now go through the process of being extradited back to Wyoming to face these charges. Her arrest is a clear reminder that even if someone tries to escape by hopping on a cruise ship, law enforcement efforts can still bring them to justice.  And that’s no vacation.

Cruise Passenger Gives Warning After Mom Breaks Two Fingers in Cabin Door

Chrissy and her mom were enjoying their Carnival Mardi Gras cruise. The balcony door was open, letting in that wonderful ocean breeze. But a simple, innocent action quickly led to a couple broken bones, and she is warning other passengers not to let the same thing happen to them.

Balcony cabin door on cruise ship

She shared the details with Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, and Heald shared what happened in a recent Facebook video post.

Chrissy’s mom heard the room steward outside their cabin. Without thinking, she opened the main cabin door to ask him a question. That’s when it happened.

“As she opened the door, the pressure of having both the balcony and cabin door open at the same time pulled the cabin door shut on my mom’s fingers,” Chrissy explained. “She started screaming. She was bleeding profusely, and it was very traumatic.“

The powerful “wind tunnel” created by having both doors open slammed the heavy cabin door shut. Chrissy’s mom broke two fingers and needed seven stitches.

Carnival Cruise Line Cabins and balconies on Celebration

The “Wind Tunnel” Effect is No Joke

John Heald just recently talked about sleeping with balcony doors open, confirming that Carnival does allow it. He’s also cleared up a common myth and explained that opening your balcony door only turns off your cabin’s AC; it doesn’t affect your neighbors.

However, Heald has always stressed caution about strong drafts. Chrissy’s mom’s injury is a clear reminder of how powerful these “wind tunnels” can be.

The first time I experienced this on a cruise I felt like the wind was trying to rip the door out of my grip.

When both the balcony door and the main cabin door are open, the air pressure can cause the cabin door to swing violently and slam shut. This can lead to serious injury.

The golden rule, according to both Heald and Chrissy, is simple: Never open your cabin door when your balcony door is already open. Always close one before opening the other.

A rule for me is that if I know I have room service coming to my cabin, I will make sure the balcony door is closed ahead of time, so I don’t forget.

Great Medical Care at Sea

Despite the unfortunate accident, Chrissy also wanted to highlight the incredible medical care on board. She couldn’t praise the ship’s medical team enough.

“The medical staff were nothing short of amazing,” Chrissy said. “We received X-rays, wound care, and stitches all within half an hour. There is no way this injury would have been cared for this quickly on land in a typical emergency response room.”

Chrissy specifically thanked the doctor and medic on duty for their quick and expert help. John Heald stated that he immediately shared her appreciation with the ship’s captain and senior management, making sure the medical staff got the recognition they deserved.

A Few Cabin Reminders

There’s something really amazing about listening to the ocean and feeling the ocean breeze as you enjoy your balcony door being open.  And yes, Carnival is ok with you sleeping with the balcony door open.

Just remember a few things to stay safe in your cabin.

  • One door at a time: This is the most important rule. Never have both your balcony door and your cabin door open simultaneously. Close one before opening the other.
  • AC Impact: Opening your balcony door will temporarily turn off your cabin’s air conditioning.
  • Secure your balcony door: Even if you’re just sitting outside, make sure the door is secured so it doesn’t slide around. There’s usually a latch or stop to keep it in place.
  • No mattresses on balconies: Yup, it shouldn’t even have to be said, and yet… it has to be said.

Bottom Line

So, what’s the real takeaway here? Go ahead and enjoy that ocean breeze from your balcony — it’s truly one of the best parts of a cruise. Just remember Chrissy’s story and keep safety in mind. A little bit of awareness can make all the difference between a perfect vacation and an unexpected trip to the medical center (which, let’s be honest, isn’t exactly a souvenir anyone wants to bring home).

Comparing the 2 Main Adults Only Cruise Lines After 13 Cruises on Both

If you are looking into taking an adults only ocean cruise, there are two main cruise lines that you can choose from, Viking and Virgin Voyages.

Adults only cruise lines
Virgin and Viking are the two main adults only ocean cruise lines.

I have taken a total of 13 cruises on both cruise lines, nine on Viking and four on Virgin. (They are a combination of media invites and cruises I paid full price for) I have sailed in Europe and the Caribbean with both lines. Here is my firsthand experience after sailing on the two, how they compare and how they are different.

Even though the two cruise lines are adults only, they really don’t compete against each other because of the completely different styles of cruises that each offer. However, they do have a few similarities.

How are Viking and Virgin alike?

  • Must be 18 years and older to sail
  • WiFi is included
  • All dining is included
  • No formal nights

That is pretty much where the similarities end and they are more different than alike.

How are Viking and Virgin different?

  • Ship vibes are completely different
  • Geared towards different clientele
  • Viking costs more per night but includes more in cruise fares
  • Viking offers more longer cruises than Virgin
  • Virgin offers many shorter cruises, something Viking does not offer
  • Virgin offers a ton more cruises to the Caribbean

I will start off by saying that I really love cruising on both, so this is not an article about which is better or which is my preference. I just want to show you my firsthand account on both so you can make the right decision for your cruise.

pool Viking
Main pool on Viking

Vibes/Atmosphere

This is probably the biggest difference between the two cruise lines. Viking calls themselves the “thinking man’s cruise” while Virgin is more of a party cruise.

You go on Viking to experience culture, spend more time in port, and to see the world and you go on Virgin to let loose.

Viking has lectures to help you learn more about where you’re visiting while Virgin has Scarlet Night, the ultimate party at sea.

Scarlet Night on Virgin Voyages
Scarlet Night on Virgin Voyages is one of the most unique nights at sea. Photo: Cruise Fever

Virgin has a slightly younger crowd as Viking gears their cruises to those who are 50 and over. However, you do find adult guests of all ages on both cruise lines. My wife took her first Viking cruise when she was 25 and loved it.

Ships

Both cruise lines only have one class of ship and every vessel in their fleets is pretty much identical.

Viking’s ships are less than half the size of Virgins and offer more space per passenger when comparing the two.

Viking cabin
A Viking Penthouse Balcony. Photo: Cruise Fever

The cabins on both are completely different. Every Viking stateroom comes with a balcony and the bathroom has headed floors and no-fog mirrors. They have a far more premium feel than what you’ll find on Virgin.

Cabins on Virgin have mood lighting and every balcony has a hammock (great feature). The entire room is controlled by a tablet, this includes the TV, lights, thermostat, and even the curtain. This is one feature I really wish all cruise lines would copy.

Virgin Voyages hammock

What’s Included

Viking offers more in cruise fares than Virgin, but also at a higher price point.  Here is a look at what’s included in both cruise line’s fares. Since they both include WiFi and all dining, I will not put them in the list of what each offer.

Viking:

  • One shore excursion in every port
  • All specialty coffees
  • Thermal Suite
  • Drinks during meals (soft drinks, wine etc.)

Virgin Voyages:

The food on Virgin is my favorite out of all cruise lines. However, Viking has by far the best Italian restuarant at sea, Manfredi’s, and also has the best steak (Traditional Bistecca alla Fiorentina). Room service on Viking is nothing short of amazing.

Other Differences

Viking offers more overnight port stays that include embarkation and disembarkation ports. This allows you to see those cities without having to extend your trip.

Virgin also offers some overnight ports, but not nearly as many as Viking. I had an overnight stay at Ibiza during my cruise in the Mediterranean.

Viking sends out a pre-cruise packet in the mail that includes red luggage tags. They last for years and I still use them on every trip I take.

Viking offers a Silver Spirits beverage package that costs just $27 a day. Virgin does not offer beverage packages but you can get extra credit by pre-purchasing bar credit before your cruise.

Viking does not have a casino while Virgin has a non-smoking casino.

Virgin has far more activities going on around the ship than Viking and also a wider variety of shows and entertainment.

Viking’s ships are better for cold weather cruises since the main pool has a retractable roof and the ships have a two-story Observation Lounge.

For the Caribbean I would lean toward Virgin while in Europe, I would choose Viking.

Conclusion

Both cruise lines offer a great kid free cruise, it all depends on what type of cruise you’re looking for. I personally really enjoy both and will likely sail on both again when I want an adults only cruise.

Cruise Ship Evacuates 1,500 Young Adults, Mostly US Citizens, from Israel

About 1,500 young adults participating in heritage trips to Israel have been evacuated to Cyprus by the Crown Iris, a cruise ship operated by Israeli-based Mano Maritime.

This move comes as ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran intensifies following recent strikes between the two nations.

According to news reports, Crown Iris, built in 1992 with a gross tonnage of 40,876, arrived in Larnaca, Cyprus, today carrying approximately 1,500 participants of Birthright Israel.

Originally known as the MS Royal Majesty, the ship underwent a refit in 2019 after being acquired by Mano Maritime, and now offers a capacity of 1,790 to 1,970 passengers.

The 13-hour journey from Ashdod Port, south of Tel Aviv, was escorted across the Mediterranean by the Israeli navy.

Birthright Israel, an organization partially funded by the Israeli government, offers free 10-day “heritage trips” to Israel for Jewish young adults aged 18 to 26.

About 2,800 international participants in the program, mostly from the United States, had found themselves stranded in Israel since Friday morning when the conflict began.

On June 13, Birthright Israel provided an update, assuring the public that “All participants are safe, currently located near secure zones and shelters, and are being closely cared for by the operational teams and staff on the ground.”

Birthright Israel is covering all transportation costs for these evacuations.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis chartered four wide-body planes to fly all evacuated U.S. participants from the Cyprus port directly to Tampa, Florida.

Gidi Mark, CEO of Birthright Israel, commented on the complex operation, stating, “This was a complex and emotional operation, carried out under immense pressure, and we are proud to have brought 1,500 young adults safely to Cyprus. Our team continues to work around the clock to secure solutions for the remaining participants still in Israel.”

According to Birthright Israel, evacuation efforts, both by air and sea, are ongoing for the remaining international participants in the country. The organization has prioritized participants who were nearing the end of their 10-day experience.

While cruise ships are usually used for vacation and leisure, they are often used in humanitarian efforts because of their ability to carry large masses of people all at once.

Cruise Passenger Arrested As They Attempted To Board

For one would-be cruiser, a dream Alaskan getaway came to a screeching halt in Ketchikan, Alaska, when law enforcement arrested her just as she was preparing to board her ship.

NCL ship in Ketchikan, Alaska

On 12th June 2025, 64-year-old Karen Bryan was taken into custody at the popular cruise port after authorities in Laramie County, Wyoming, flagged her as a fugitive.

Bryan was reportedly wanted on suspicion of embezzling thousands of dollars from a church in her local community.

Despite the more than 1,500-mile distance between Laramie and Ketchikan, law enforcement agencies across the U.S. routinely share warrants digitally.

When Bryan arrived at the cruise terminal, a routine check triggered a watchlist alert, allowing local police in Ketchikan to act swiftly.

Arrest Confirmed by Local Sheriff

The arrest went viral after Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak posted about it on Facebook, praising the inter-agency coordination that led to Bryan’s arrest.

“Our deputies are responsible for picking up wanted fugitives throughout the United States,

“She was contacted by law enforcement in Alaska as she was boarding a cruise ship, and has been arrested.”

He added that extradition procedures are already underway and joked, “Our deputies are currently fighting over who is going to get to go to Alaska to extradite her back here to Laramie County.”

Which Ship Was She Trying to Board?

Authorities have not confirmed which cruise line or ship Bryan was attempting to board. However, Ketchikan saw an exceptionally busy day on 12th June, welcoming five large cruise ships carrying more than 16,000 passengers combined:

  • Norwegian Bliss (Norwegian Cruise Line) – 4,004 guests
  • Royal Princess (Princess Cruises) – 3,560 guests
  • Sapphire Princess (Princess Cruises) – 2,670 guests
  • Eurodam (Holland America Line) – 2,104 guests
  • Koningsdam (Holland America Line) – 2,560 guests

All vessels were in port during overlapping times, and the exact ship Bryan intended to sail on has not been publicly confirmed.

A Growing Trend: Cruise Terminals as Arrest Points

While it may surprise some, cruise terminals in the U.S. function as ports of entry, even for domestic cruises. This allows local and federal authorities to scan passenger IDs against active warrants or security databases.

From PortMiami to Galveston to Baltimore, arrests of cruise passengers with outstanding warrants have become increasingly common.

In fact, FBI agents in Texas are specifically assigned to cruise port operations, and authorities regularly use facial recognition technology to scan for wanted individuals.

A recent example includes a Kentucky man arrested in PortMiami in December 2024 for owing over $100,000 in back child support.

Other arrests have occurred in Jacksonville, Los Angeles, and New York, often just minutes before embarkation.

Despite their relaxing atmosphere, cruise ships are not a safe haven for fugitives. With cruise lines implementing strict ID checks and working closely with law enforcement, attempting to board a ship with an active warrant is a high-risk gamble.

As for Bryan, what was likely meant to be a scenic Alaskan cruise has now turned into a legal journey back to Wyoming – in custody.

Thousands Of Cruise Guests Stranded Thanks To Port Chaos

For passengers aboard Regal Princess this week, a call to Invergordon, Scotland turned into a logistical headache when shuttle delays of up to four hours caused hundreds to miss out on planned tours to the Scottish Highlands.

Coach

The incident occurred on 10th June 2025, during a 12-night British Isles itinerary.

With the port of Invergordon requiring cruise passengers to be transported via shuttle to reach tour coaches due to local regulations, the system quickly buckled under the pressure of the ship’s more than 4,000 passengers.

For some, the delay was so long that they gave up entirely. “People were waiting hours,” said one frustrated passenger. “We missed our slot on the Loch Ness boat cruise and never got to see the castle.”

Tour operators also expressed concern over the scale of the issue. Gordon Pearson of Wow Tours Inverness told the Press and Journal:

“Some people didn’t make it off today and missed their tours entirely. It was just chaos and is an absolute embarrassment.”

Despite being a deep water port popular with cruise lines, Invergordon’s small population of fewer than 4,000 and limited local infrastructure clearly struggled to cope with a ship the size of Regal Princess – which can carry up to 4,250 guests.

Port Authority Responds

The Port of Cromarty Firth, which arranges the shuttle buses, acknowledged the problem and blamed a combination of “specific circumstances” for the breakdown.

“We held a very positive and constructive meeting with the cruise line… We are now both working through what we can change and improve for the next visit.”

The port also pledged to look into mobility access concerns, as several guests reported difficulty boarding the step-up buses provided.

Why Regal Princess in Particular?

Regal Princess is the largest cruise ship scheduled to visit Invergordon this month, significantly bigger than other upcoming vessels such as Celebrity Eclipse (2,850 passengers), P&O Britannia (3,647), and MSC Preziosa (3,959).

The 142,700-gross-ton ship is due to return to the port on 22nd June, 16th July, and multiple dates throughout August, September, and her final call on 5th October, during a 31-night repositioning voyage to Galveston.

With additional calls expected this season, pressure is mounting on local authorities and Princess Cruises to ensure smoother disembarkation and tour processes in future.

At the time of writing, Princess Cruises has not released a public statement on the incident. It is also unclear whether affected guests – particularly those who missed paid excursions – will receive any form of compensation or partial refund.

Compensation typically depends on whether the tour was booked through the cruise line or independently.

Some passengers have already voiced their dissatisfaction on social media, urging the cruise line to review its shore excursion planning and port logistics for future British Isles sailings.

As more megaships make their way to smaller ports around the world, incidents like this highlight the delicate balance between growing passenger demand and the limits of local infrastructure – especially in rural or historically smaller cruise destinations.

Yet Another Ship Adrift Following Equipment Failures

A routine call at Juneau, Alaska, turned into a tense afternoon for passengers and crew on Celebrity Edge after the cruise ship broke free from its mooring lines during severe weather on 16th June 2025.

Celebrity Edge adrift off Juneau

The incident occurred amid heavy rain, strong winds, and even hail, while five ships were docked at capacity in the busy Alaskan cruise port.

Eye-witness videos captured the moment as the 130,818-gross-ton vessel drifted away from the pier, leaving some guests stranded ashore and sparking concern for the safety of nearby ships.

“The ship broke away from the mooring and supposedly slammed back into the dock. No communication from Celebrity whatsoever,”

A passenger on the ship

Rapid Response in a Crowded Port

Celebrity Edge, which can carry up to 2,908 passengers, was not alone in Juneau that day. She was joined by Carnival Luminosa, Royal Princess, Eurodam, and Koningsdam, as well as the National Geographic Sea Lion, a small expedition vessel with just 62 guests.

One video appeared to show Carnival Luminosa reversing unexpectedly, possibly to avoid a collision. Another passenger, watching from a nearby ship, described seeing Edge drifting toward them as winds howled through the port.

Despite the chaos, crew onboard acted swiftly, and by 4:20 pm local time, announcements informed passengers that the ship would re-dock on the port side once broken mooring lines were cleared from the water.

“They are going to redock on the port side. First, they need to remove the snapped ropes from the water,” confirmed a guest who remained on board during the incident.

By evening, Celebrity Edge was securely back at the pier, and guests were able to re-board with time to spare before the ship’s scheduled 10 pm departure.

The Role of Extreme Weather

While the exact wind speeds haven’t been officially confirmed, witness reports and on-site video clearly show hail and high winds – the same conditions blamed for similar incidents across Alaska and beyond in recent weeks.

On 30th May 2025, Holland America Line’s Westerdam suffered a gangway collapse in Ketchikan after strong gusts caused her mooring lines to snap.

Around the same time, MSC Seascape and Norwegian Epic were affected by mooring failures elsewhere in the world, all due to extreme weather conditions.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the Celebrity Edge incident, and no major damage has been confirmed to either the ship or the pier. The cruise line has not yet released an official statement regarding the event.

Celebrity Edge is currently sailing a 7-night roundtrip Alaska itinerary from Seattle, which began on 13th June 2025. The voyage is expected to continue as scheduled, with upcoming stops in Skagway and Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

Despite the dramatic moment in Juneau, cruise experts note that mooring line failures are extremely rare, and ships undergo stringent safety procedures and protocols in these events.

Cruisers booked on future sailings aboard Celebrity Edge can take comfort in knowing that these incidents are one-off weather-related anomalies – not reflective of routine ship safety or operation standards.

With Alaska’s cruise season now in full swing, port authorities and cruise lines alike will be watching forecasts closely and reinforcing safety measures to prevent a repeat performance in this otherwise breath-taking destination.

8 People Who Were Kicked Off Cruise Ships (And What They Did Wrong)

Not everyone who boards a cruise ship will get to enjoy the full itinerary. Some people will end up getting kicked off the ship, and typically with good reason.

Kicked off cruise ships

Those reasons can vary though – but the result is always the same. Guests are escorted from the ship at the first opportunity, no matter where they are, and are then banned for life.

Don’t worry. You aren’t going to be booted off the ship in the middle of nowhere without good reason. It’ll always be justified, and some of the behaviour of these people is pretty shocking…

1. The Dangerous Selfie

In October 2019, a passenger on Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas was kicked off the ship and banned for life after pulling a reckless stunt (source).

Dangerous selfie on Allure of the Seas
Credit: Peter Blosic

She was spotted climbing over the railing of her balcony to pose for a selfie while the ship was en route to Labadee, Haiti.

Another guest, Peter Blosic, saw what was happening and took a photo before alerting the crew, worried she might fall or even jump.

The woman and a man she was travelling with – who’d apparently helped her with the stunt – were identified and promptly removed from the ship at the next stop in Falmouth, Jamaica.

2. Assault on the Elderly

In October 2024, a mother and son from Alabama found themselves in hot water during a cruise aboard MSC’s Seascape (source).

The pair, 49-year-old Kelli Lyn Ryan and her 23-year-old son, Dylan, were caught on the ship’s CCTV assaulting a 65-year-old passenger during a dispute in the ship’s theatre.

Kelli Lyn Ryan kicked off MSC Seascape
Kelli Lyn Ryan, Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation

Dylan was promptly removed from the ship at its first port of call in Falmouth, Jamaica, due to what was described as “excessive behaviour”.

Kelli, however, was allowed to remain onboard as the cruise continued to Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and MSC’s private island in the Bahamas.

Upon returning to Miami on 12th October, she was arrested by local police and charged with battery on a person aged 65 or older. The exact cause of the altercation hasn’t been disclosed.

3. Public Urination

This one’s an interesting one.

A German passenger was booted off an unnamed cruise ship after allegedly urinating into a beer glass in a public space on the ship.

Urination in a beer glass

Three days after the incident, the man (and two others that he was travelling with) were removed from the ship and told they needed to make their own plans to get home.

But here’s where it gets interesting – the man took the cruise line to court, because technically the cruise line’s guest conduct policy could be argued that it didn’t exclude the man’s behaviour.

And he won. The Dusseldorf courts decided that he shouldn’t have been removed from the cruise, and he should be paid €9,000 in compensation.

It’s pretty shocking – but hopefully cruise lines move quickly to make sure their policies are updated so that this doesn’t become behaviour that must be tolerated onboard!

4. The Unruly Family

In February 2018, a 10-day South Pacific cruise aboard Carnival Legend turned chaotic when a series of violent incidents involving an extended family led to their removal from the ship.

The trouble began early in the voyage, with reports of the family engaging in aggressive behaviour towards other passengers, including physical altercations and verbal threats.

The situation escalated over several days, culminating in a large-scale brawl in the ship’s nightclub during the early hours of 16th February. Footage captured by passengers showed security personnel attempting to break up the fight, which left at least 30 people injured.

In response to the violence, the ship made an unscheduled stop at Eden, New South Wales, where six men and three teenage boys from the family were removed by police. An additional 14 family members, including women and children, also disembarked.

The remaining passengers continued to Melbourne, the cruise’s original destination.

5. The Entitled Brit

I’ve got to give credit to Sail Away Magazine for this one as they’ve done an excellent job covering this on their YouTube podcast:

Harry King was removed from Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas for repeated disruptive behaviour during a cruise.

The trouble began when he lit a cigarette inside a ship nightclub – a clear violation of the no-smoking policy outside designated areas. Although he claimed it was a misunderstanding, he admitted he’d been drinking and didn’t fully register the rules.

Security issued a final warning and confined him to his cabin for the night. However, additional behaviour came to light through his own TikTok posts, including:

  • Playing loud music from a portable speaker near the pool, claiming it was no different to the ship’s own music.
  • Allegedly urinating in a plant pot while drunk, though he later suggested it may have been a rumour.
  • Throwing a lit cigarette overboard, an act cruise lines consider extremely dangerous due to fire risk.

In his videos and the podcast appearance, King showed no remorse. He insisted cruises were “for boring people” and “coffin dodgers,” declared he’d do it all again, and blamed security staff for spoiling his fun.

His behaviour ultimately led to his removal from the ship at a port in Mexico and an effective ban from Royal Caribbean.

6. The Jumper

One man decided that, in his drunken state, it would be a good idea to jump off the cruise ship.

In 2019, 27-year-old Nick Naydev made headlines after jumping from the 11th deck of Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas while it was docked in Nassau, Bahamas.

The 100-foot plunge into shark-infested waters was filmed by his friends in a misguided attempt to go viral on social media.

Naydev later admitted he was still under the influence of alcohol from the night before and didn’t think the stunt through.

Though he survived with only minor injuries to his tailbone and neck, Royal Caribbean swiftly banned him and his group for life, labelling the act “stupid and reckless” and reportedly considering legal action.

Honestly, it’s a miracle he didn’t suffer worse injuries.

7. The Casino Fight

A couple were permanently banned from Royal Caribbean after a violent altercation over a slot machine on Radiance of the Seas. The ship had just departed Tampa, Florida, on a 15-day repositioning cruise to Los Angeles when the incident occurred on the first night.

According to eyewitnesses, a guest had briefly stepped away from their slot machine to use the bathroom, leaving a note and asking nearby passengers to watch it.

The casino was not busy, and other machines were available. Nevertheless, a couple ignored the note and verbal warnings, sat down, and began playing – reportedly using the remaining credits left by the original player.

When the guest returned and confronted them, the couple responded aggressively, allegedly pushing the passenger to the ground and shouting.

Cruise security reviewed surveillance footage and confined the couple to their cabin until the next port, Grand Cayman, where they were disembarked and banned from sailing with Royal Caribbean and its associated brands for life.

8. The Influencer

One of the more famous incidents of someone getting kicked off a cruise ship wasn’t so much because of what they were doing – more because of who they were.

Jack Doherty is a YouTuber who claims he was kicked off a cruise ship in September 2024.

It’s not even clear what he did when you look at it online – the video sees his group in a meeting with security officers where they are questioned over filming minors onboard, smoking on their balconies, and questions about the kind of content they normally post on social media.

But despite the video being titled “I got kicked off a cruise”, it doesn’t show it happening.

And then there’s a separate video of Jack shouting at guests who serenade him with the “Na na na, Goodbye” song, but it’s a completely different ship.

Language warning:

So what really happened? Tough to say but I wonder if it’s all just fake and he was never actually kicked off a cruise – but made it look that way for content.

Just a warning to be careful over what you believe online!

Reasons You Might Get Kicked Off a Cruise

Cruise lines don’t hesitate to put passengers ashore for bad behaviour – and it’s not just the obvious stuff like violence or drug smuggling.

Whether you’re acting recklessly, skipping safety procedures, or just being plain rude, here are 11 ways to get kicked off a cruise:

  1. Getting Seriously Ill
If your medical needs exceed what the ship’s facilities can handle, you’ll be offloaded at the next port for treatment – often with no say in the matter.
  2. Skipping the Muster Drill
Miss the mandatory safety briefing, even once, and you risk being removed from the ship before it even sails.
  3. Bringing Drugs or Illegal Items
Whether it’s weed, weapons or something worse, bringing contraband onboard can end your holiday – and potentially land you in jail.
  4. Refusing Security or Health Screenings
Don’t want to go through checks or follow health protocols? Don’t expect to cruise.
  5. Making a Bomb Threat
Even joking about explosives or threats will see you swiftly removed – and possibly reported to authorities.
  6. Lacking the Right Documents
Forgot your passport or faked a vaccine card? No cruise for you.
  7. Buying a Minor Alcohol
Helping someone underage drink onboard is a one-way ticket off the ship – for both of you.
  8. Disorderly or Reckless Behaviour
Fights, drunken antics, climbing railings, or breaking rules can get you confined to your cabin – or escorted off entirely.
  9. Breaking Quarantine
If you’re required to isolate for illness and don’t comply, expect to be removed for endangering others.
  10. Stealing from the Ship
From souvenir shoplifting to high-value theft, stealing means serious consequences – including being debarked and possibly prosecuted.
  11. Abusing Crew or Officers
Cruise lines enforce a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment or abuse. Be respectful – or be removed.
