12 Must-See Cruise TV Shows In The UK Right Now

The cruise blues are real. Whether you’ve just returned from a cruise, or you feel like one is just out of reach, it’s common to feel a bit sad that you’re not onboard a ship right now. But there’s a quick fix – cruise TV shows.

From behind-the-scenes documentaries to shipboard dramas and classic travel series, these shows let you sail away from your sofa, even if just for a little while. And yeah, it’s not quite the real thing, but it’s something – it can help. Plus if you love cruising, they’re just really interesting.

And the best part? There really is something for everyone – as this list shows.

1. The Cruise (BBC)

BBC The Cruise title screen

Where to watch it now: BBC iPlayer
Number of seasons: 1

First aired in 1998 and widely considered to be one of the original ‘docusoaps’ – a documentary filmed to be dramatic and episodic – The Cruise charted the maiden voyage of the Celebrity Cruises ship Galaxy, which has since been sold to Marella Cruises and sails as Marella Explorer.

The 12-episode series showed the ship sailing around the Caribbean and made stars out of some of the crew featured on board, especially Jane McDonald, the cruise ship singer who was enjoying her first headline booking.

There was a short follow-up series, called Return to…The Cruise that reflected on the original series from Jane’s perspective. There are 5 episodes of that show also available, but it consists of a lot of clips of the original.

2. The Cruise (Channel 5)

Casts of the TV show The Cruise

Where to watch it now: My5 Player
Number of seasons: 1

Another series entitled ‘The Cruise’, this one is more recent and focuses on Virgin Voyages, specifically The Scarlet Lady cruise ship. It has 8 episodes, all focusing on different parts of cruise life on this modern ship.

There’s a look at the no-kids policy of Virgin Voyages in one episode, and one that’s dedicated to how ships manage to turn around all of the supplies they need and get them to the right departments onboard during port days.

To confuse matters, there is a third TV series called The Cruise that was shown on ITV, which focused on Princess Cruises. That’s no longer available on the ITV Hub, unfortunately, which is a shame as it had six seasons.

3. Cruising with Jane McDonald

Cruising with Jane McDonald cover

Where to watch it now: My5 Player
Number of seasons: 7

The same Jane McDonald that starred as a slightly nervous cruise ship singer in BBC One’s The Cruise is now one of Britain’s most prominent cruise ship travel show hosts. She has 7 series of her own show under her belt, where she travels the whole world on various ships for different cruise lines.

There is more of a focus on the destination with these series – episodes are titled based on where the ships are sailing too, and it’s more of a traditional travel show that follows Jane visiting landmarks and destinations.

But you do still get to see some parts of the cruising experience as part of the show, as Jane shares her expert knowledge of the cruise industry and chats to various members of the crew.

4. Cruising with Susan Calman

Host of the TV show Cruising with Susan Calman onboard Regal Princess

Where to watch it now: My5 Player
Number of seasons: 3

There’s not a lot to say about this show, as it simply picks up the mantle of ‘Cruising with Jane McDonald’ and puts Susan Calman into the host position instead. Calman is an established stand-up comedian and panel show guest who boosted her popularity with an impressive run on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017.

Similar to the Jane McDonald series, there’s a closer focus on the destinations with this show, as you get to see Susan sailing around the Mediterranean on Regal Princess, with later shows focussing on ports around the Caribbean and into the Panama Canal with a cruise on the Holland America ship Eurodam.

5. Jane McDonald: Cruising…

Where to watch it now: My5 Player
Number of seasons: 1

A spin-off from Jane McDonald’s ‘Cruising With’ series, she also starred as the host of a series of one-off specials focussing on different destinations. These included a mix of clips from the earlier series, all packaged together with Jane’s reflections on the key destinations for cruising.

There are 8 specials, each one running for around 100-120 minutes, including Cruising the Med, Cruising Scandinavia, Cruising USA and also Christmas Cruising.

So if you have a particular destination that you love and you just want to focus on that, you can enjoy an in-depth special dedicated to that region.

6. Billion Pound Cruise

Symphony of the Seas sailing on the ocean

Where to watch it now: Channel 4 Online
Number of seasons: 1

The Billion Pound Cruise is a show that ran for three episodes, with a compilation episode released at the end, all based around the Symphony of the Seas. Each episode looks at a different aspect of life on the ship, with Episode 1 focusing on embarkation day and the logistics of preparing the ship for 6500+ new guests.

The second episode takes a deep dive into the ports of call, and how the ship manages to stay on schedule. Finally, the third episode is dedicated to everything there is to do on board. With a run-time of just 47 mins and over 70 activities, 14 bars and lounges and many more restaurants, it doesn’t quite have the time to cover everything…

7. Building the Billion Pound Cruise Ship

MSC World Europa

Where to watch it now: Channel 4 Online
Number of seasons: 1

Similar to the earlier series, Building the Billion Pound Cruise Ship is a documentary that looks at the process of building one of the world’s biggest ships – this time the MSC World Europa.

There’s only one episode this time but it’s a fascinating watch to see this incredible ship coming together.

8. Mighty Ships

Mighty Ships tv show cover

Where to watch it now: Prime Video (Discovery+ Pass required)
Number of seasons: 10

Mighty Ships is a documentary series that has been running since 2008, which looks at some of the biggest and most impressive ships in the world, how they were built, their crew and how they operate day-to-day.

The series is not dedicated to cruise ships, so there are episodes on all manner of impressive vessels. But a handful of episodes do look at cruise ships.

In particular, look out for:

  • The original one-off special, looking at Queen Mary 2
  • Season 3 Episode 5, looking at Oasis of the Seas
  • Season 5 Episode 1, looking at Norwegian Epic
  • Season 5 Episode 3, looking at Le Boreal
  • Season 6 Episode 3, looking at Crystal Serenity
  • Season 7 Episodes 1 & 2 looking at Norwegian Breakaway
  • Season 8 Episode 1, looking at Quantum of the Seas
  • Season 9 Episode 6, looking at MS Fram
  • Season 10 Episode 4, looking at MSC Meraviglia

Episodes last for 45 minutes and go into great detail about the ships themselves, rather than the destinations they sail to. You’ll need to buy a Discovery+ pass on Prime Video in order to watch the series now.

9. Mighty Cruise Ships

Mighty Cruise Ships tv show cover

Where to watch it now: Prime Video (Discovery+ Pass required)
Number of seasons: 4

Following the success of Mighty Ships, a spin-off series called Mighty Cruise Ships was first shown in 2014 on the Discovery Channel. There were 26 episodes in total – 6 in each of the first three seasons, and 8 in the final season.

Every episode followed a similar structure to the normal Mighty Ships series, looking at one ship in great detail. Many of the most famous cruise lines in the world were featured, with in-depth looks at Symphony of the Seas for Royal Caribbean, Sky Princess for Princess Cruises, and Carnival Vista for Carnival, among others.

But some smaller ships were also included too, including Royal Clipper for Star Clippers, the MS Roald Amundsen for Hurtigruten, and Kristina Cruises’ MS Ocean Endeavour, so it’s a fantastic series for seeing a full breadth of cruise ships.

10. The Love Boat

Casts of The Love Boat tv show

Where to watch it now: Paramount+
Number of seasons: 9

No list of cruise TV shows can be put together without mentioning the most famous fictional show set on a cruise ship. The Love Boat ran from 1977 until 1986 with 9 seasons and 5 specials, and it was a comedy-drama that followed various crew members on the ship.

Filmed on the Princess Cruises ship Pacific Princess, the fun show offers a lot of twists and turns but also gives you a view of what life is like on a cruise ship – even if it is heavily dramatised. You get to see a lot of the ship (and her sister, Island Princess, which was sometimes used).

The Love Boat characters are so loveable, and you get to enjoy the theme tune, which is a classic.

11. The Good Ship Murder

The Good Ship Murder is a TV show first introduced in 2023. A crime drama series, it’s set on a luxury Mediterranean cruise ship – specifically the MSC Virtuosa.

Each week, a detective-turned-cabaret singer solves a new murder onboard with the help of the First Officer.

There are two seasons to enjoy so far – it’s pretty good!

Number of seasons: 2

12. Cruise 1st TV

Cruise 1st TV show cover

Where to watch it now: Sky Channel 675 / Virgin Media 758
Number of seasons: n/a

Not really a TV show per say, this is instead a TV channel available on Sky that is dedicated to cruising and, in particular, cruise deals.

Whether you want to book with Cruise 1st or just watch the channel to get an idea of the deals available, and then go to your preferred travel agent, that’s up to you. But it is good for getting inspired for your next cruise.

Also recommended: YouTube

I’ve not included this on the list as it is definitely not a TV show, but it’s worth mentioning that YouTube has thousands of videos all about life on a cruise ship. You can see official videos from cruise lines that showcase different ships, or travel vlogs from experts, or just keep up with your favourite cruise lovers on their own cruise adventures.

Cruise Line Selling Oldest Ship & Remodeling Others

A cruise line has announced that they are selling their oldest cruise ship and wrapping a massive transformation of their other vessels.

Costa fortuna cruise ship

Costa Cruises, one of eight cruise lines from Carnival Corporation, is selling Costa Fortuna, the oldest ship in their fleet. The vessel will remain in the Costa fleet for another 16 months and then get transferred over to a new owner in September 2026.

In addition to the selling of Costa Fortuna, the cruise line announced that they are wrapping up $225 million project that added significant improvements to their ships.

The last ship scheduled to receive improvements is Costa Serena. The ship will go into an extensive dry dock in November 2025 and will emerge as a completely different vessel.

It will feature a vibrant new food court with innovative restaurants and bars, such as the Archipelago starred-chef restaurant, Pizzeria Pummid’Oro and Sushino@Costa.

The suites will be completely renovated and the ship’s pools will be designed.

Between October and December 2026, Costa Serena will embark on extraordinary itineraries, including a World Cruise from Tokyo, Japan, to Buenos Aires, Argentina, before positioning to South America for regular rotations in winter 2027.

Starting in spring 2027, Costa Serena will offer Mediterranean-focused cruises.

Mario Zanetti, president of Costa Cruises, gave the following statement:

“Our goal is to provide unmatched experiences for our guests while embracing innovation, sustainability, and exceptional value for money. We continuously focus on product innovation, such as the Sea and Land itineraries, an exclusive by Costa, that combines new Sea Destinations and Land Destinations.

We are also investing in our fleet to enhance onboard experience and introducing new itineraries, including Costa Serena new deployment for 2026-2027. The strategy path that we started a few years ago is strengthening our offer in our key markets with a portfolio of unique vacations.”

Viking’s Newest Ship Moves to Final Stage of Construction

Less than a month after Viking floated-out a new ship for the Nile River, the cruise line celebrated another construction milestone with yet another new ship float-out.

The float-out of Viking Thoth took place at the Massara shipyard in Cairo. The ship will now move to the final stage of construction, the interior build-out.

Viking Thoth will enter service this fall with Viking Amun, two new Viking ships that will sail on the Nile River. The vessels will sail Viking’s extremely popular 12-day Pharaohs & Pyramids itinerary.

Viking Thoth will be an identical ship to Viking Osiris, Viking Aton, Viking Sobek, Viking Hathor and Viking Amun. The ships carry 82 guests in 41 staterooms and feature the cruise line’s signature Scandinavian design.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, said the following:

“Egypt is a country of profound historical and cultural significance, which makes it a destination of great interest to our guests. With two new ships, the Viking Thoth and the Viking Amun, debuting in 2025, we are very proud to continue expanding our elegant fleet and introducing more curious travelers to this phenomenal region.”

The ship will give Viking eight river ships sailing on the Nile River. The cruise line has plans to add an additional four ships for a total of 12 vessels in Egypt by 2027.

Oceania-Vista-docked-in-port.jpg

Unique Cruise from Miami Visits Everything from the Antarctic to Bali

Ever looked at a map and thought, “I want to go there, and there, and there“?  Well, Oceania Cruises is offering a very unique sailing that pretty much covers the map. Everything from the icy Antarctic to Balinese temples will be seen on this voyage, and it all starts in PortMiami.

Oceania Vista docked in port in Roseau, Dominica

Departing from Miami on January 6, 2026, the “Around the World in 180 Days” cruise isn’t just a vacation; it’s a global expedition. And on the elegant Oceania Vista, carrying a comfortable 1,200 guests on the 2023 Allura-class ship, passengers will experience it all with Oceania’s signature focus on great food and immersive destinations.

This particular itinerary stands out as very unique.

From the Icy South to Tropical Paradise

It really is a voyage of extremes.  The itinerary will take passengers from the stark landscapes of the Antarctic region (with a call in Punta Arenas, Chile, explicitly linked to Antarctica in the schedule) to the lush beauty of Bali, Indonesia, known for its vibrant culture and temples.

That’s some geographical variety that few single trips ever cover. But this sailing is about far more than just these two very different destinations.

Route of the 180-day Sailing on Oceania Vista

180-Day Voyage on Oceania Vista2

Overnight Stays

One of the most rewarding aspects of this World Cruise is the amount of time spent in port. This isn’t a “drive-by” tour of the globe. The itinerary features a number of overnight stays, allowing passengers to actually experience a destination.

Based on the itinerary, Oceania Vista will spend extra time in the following places with overnight stays:

  • Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: 2 nights
  • Buenos Aires, Argentina: 1 night
  • Papeete, Tahiti Island, French Polynesia: 1 night
  • Benoa, Bali, Indonesia: 1 night
  • Singapore: 1 night
  • Mumbai, India: 1 night
  • Dubai, UAE: 1 night
  • Safaga (for Luxor), Egypt: 1 night
  • Bordeaux, France: 1 night

These extended stays provide opportunities for more relaxed sightseeing, experiencing local nightlife, and taking longer excursions inland, like exploring the temples near Safaga or the vineyards near Bordeaux.

Major Phases of 180-Day Cruise

Here is the 180-day world cruise itinerary in a nutshell, breaking it down into major phases:

South America and Caribbean: (Early January – Late February) Following departure from Miami, the cruise visits the Caribbean before sailing along the coasts of South America, with calls including French Guiana, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, the Falklands, and Chile.

Pacific Crossing and Islands: (Mid-March – Early April) After visiting California, the voyage crosses the Pacific, including stops in Hawaii and exploring islands and archipelagos across the South Pacific, from the Marquesas to Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, and French Polynesia.

Australia and Asia: (Early April – Early May) The itinerary includes coastal Australia, followed by visits to Indonesia (Komodo Island is included), Singapore, Phuket, and cities in Sri Lanka and India.

Middle East: (Mid – Late May) Ports of call include Oman, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, featuring an overnight stay near Luxor and a transit of the Suez Canal.

Mediterranean and Europe: (Late May – Early June) Following the Suez Canal portion, the cruise visits ports in Greece, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Portugal, and France in the Mediterranean and Western Europe.

Northern Europe and Atlantic: (June) The journey proceeds north to the British Isles, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland before crossing the Atlantic.

North America: (Late June – Early July) Calls are scheduled in Canada and the US East Coast before the voyage concludes back in Miami.

This 180-day voyage on Oceania Vista from Miami starts at $58,099 per person as part of the promotional fare, but most of the cabins have filled up and require a wait list for those still interested.

The following is included in the cruise fare:

  • Free laundry services
  • Free visa package
  • Free WiFi
  • Free pre-paid gratuities
  • Free luggage delivery

Oceania Cruises is well known for its epic world cruises, and they often sell out very quickly.  Last year we reported of another 180-day world cruise with the company that sold out in 30 minutes.

Mexico Cruise Tax of $42 Slashed 88%, But Future Increases Are Coming

Cruise passengers traveling to Mexico will have to pay a new fee this summer, but it’s much lower than it could have been, thanks to pressure from cruise industry leaders.

In 2024, over 9 million cruise passengers visited Mexico.  In 2025, that number is expected to jump to more than 10 million.

But a $42 passenger fee from Mexico was threatening to lower the number of visits as the cruise industry warned of the threat to the country’s tourism sector.

This fee was intended to start early in 2025 and would be passed on to cruise passengers who had previously been exempt because they were considered “in transit”.

The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), voiced strong opposition and led the charge against the high fees. They warned that the $42 fee added to existing costs and could lead to ships bypassing Mexican ports altogether.

Fortunately, the cruise industry didn’t just accept this. Through active discussions with Mexican officials, they worked to find a better solution

And the good news for anyone planning a Mexican cruise is that these efforts paid off dramatically.

what to do in cozumel

Mexico has agreed to a significantly lower starting rate for the new fee. Beginning July 1, 2025, the Non-Resident Duty for cruise passengers will be just $5 USD per person, an 88% decrease from the original $42 fee.

This fee will typically be added to your cruise fare by the cruise line, and it’s important to note it is charged just once per itinerary, regardless of how many stops you make in Mexico on that sailing.

But this fee is not going to remain at $5, at least as things are setup right now.

The $5 rate is the starting point, and the fee is scheduled to increase gradually in the coming years as part of the agreement reached.

Here is the planned schedule for the phased increases:

  • $10 per passenger from August 1, 2026, to June 2027
  • $15 per passenger from July 1, 2027, to July 2028
  • $21 per passenger starting August 1, 2028

While the fee will rise over time, the key takeaway is that even the final scheduled rate of $21 is still half of the original $42 proposal.  And perhaps during this time there will be more negotiations to keep the fees lower than the current scheduled rates.

Pier Runner’s Positive Outlook With Missed-Ship Selfie

Missing your cruise ship can be a traveller’s worst nightmare, but one Royal Caribbean guest turned his misfortune into a photo opportunity after being left behind by Odyssey of the Seas in Cartagena, Spain, on 7th May 2025.

Odyssey of the Seas missed ship selfie
Selfie image credits: Martijn Bosschaart

Instead of panicking or pleading for the ship to return, the man calmly pulled out a selfie stick and took a photo of himself standing on the pier as the massive ship sailed away.

The unusual reaction was captured by other passengers onboard the ship, who posted the incident on social media.

“Pier runners missing the Odyssey departure in Cartagena just yet. (40 mins past all aboard time). But….let’s first take a selfie,” one passenger shared.

According to the passengers, the ship’s captain, Marek, later announced that four guests – identified as “Ricardo and his 3 guests” – were left behind because they failed to return on time.

The ship had a strict all-aboard time of 4:30 pm, and by 5 pm, Odyssey of the Seas had departed without them.

What Happens Next for the Left-Behind Guests?

The four stranded guests will now need to arrange their own transport to catch up with Odyssey of the Seas at one of the final two ports of call on the 14-night itinerary: Barcelona, Spain, and La Spezia, Italy.

If they cannot rejoin the cruise, they will have to make their own way home.

Royal Caribbean, like most cruise lines, does not wait for guests who do not return on time, except in the case of guests on cruise line-organized excursions that are delayed.

Several others on social media were impressed by the man’s calm reaction, compared to the typical viral videos of those who miss their ship who are often emotional.

“May as well see the funny side and take a selfie of the ship disappearing,” one commenter joked.

“No need to freak out, that won’t change the situation. It is what it is. Take a pic of yourself and laugh at yourself later with a reminder to never do it again,” another agreed.

While it may seem harsh, cruise lines maintain strict departure schedules for several reasons:

  • Fairness to On-Time Guests: Thousands of passengers who returned on time should not be delayed.
  • Port Fees: Extending the port time can result in additional fees for the cruise line.
  • Safety and Navigation: Ships must adhere to a strict schedule, including timed arrivals at other ports.

Cruise guests are always reminded of the ship’s all-aboard time multiple times before they go ashore, and it is each passenger’s responsibility to return on time.

Cruise Line’s Major Strategy Change As 301-Day World Cruise Revealed

Villa Vie Residences, known for its concept of long-term residential cruising, has announced a major change in its sailing strategy with the launch of a 301-day world cruise called “World Uncharted.”

The new voyage will depart from Barcelona on 2nd November 2027 and conclude in London on 29th August 2028.

Villa Vie Odyssey

This ambitious journey will take guests to 100 destinations across five continents, offering an immersive exploration of the world in just under a year.

The cruise is divided into eight segments, each visiting unique destinations, including Panama City, Elephant Island, Manaus, Cozumel, Miami, St. John, Honningsvag, and finally London.

A Shift in Strategy for Villa Vie Residences

The introduction of World Uncharted is a significant departure from Villa Vie’s initial concept of continuous 3.5-year world cruises.

Instead of an ongoing voyage, the company is now focusing on a more traditional long-duration world cruise model, though still much longer than most world cruises offered in the industry.

Villa Vie Odyssey, the line’s sole vessel, is currently on its first world cruise, which began in October 2024 after multiple delays due to mechanical issues during its renovation.

Despite a capacity of 600 guests, the current voyage launched with only 125 passengers.

Founder Mikael Petterson emphasized the lifestyle aspect of the voyage, stating: “This is not a cruise. It’s a lifestyle.” Guests will have extended port calls of up to five days, allowing for deeper cultural experiences.

Designed for long-term living, Villa Vie Odyssey offers a business centre with high-speed Starlink internet, along with laundry, housekeeping, and all-inclusive dining with beer and wine included at meals.

Villa Vie Residences offers several flexible booking options for guests:

  • Full Ownership: Guests can purchase a stateroom outright, starting at $129,000.
  • Seasonal Ownership: Offers credits for flexible use, with a $24,999 one-time fee and a $7,999 annual fee.
  • Rent a Villa: Short-term rentals at prevailing rates.
  • Endless Horizons: Lifetime access to guaranteed cabins, starting at $349,999 per person.
  • Endless Horizons Unleashed: A retirement-focused plan, starting at $399,999 for single occupancy.

5 Caribbean Cruise Ports That Some Say Are Overrated (And Why)

The same cruise port can have both adoring fans and disgruntled passengers.  After all, many aspects of cruising are subjective, and the topic of cruise ports is no exception.   So, what cruise ports in the Caribbean are getting the least amount of love online?

A social media post with over 200 comments opened up a can of worms to reveal some destinations that were not well received by a group of cruisers.  The question in the title asked, “What is the most overrated cruise ship port in the Caribbean?”

When people on a Reddit post started talking about the most overrated or disappointing ports in the Caribbean, a few places kept coming up. While everyone’s trip is different, many felt these ports fell short, often due to pushy salespeople, feeling fake, or just not having much excitement right near the ship.

Based on their comments and the ports most often mentioned, here are 5 Caribbean cruise ports that some cruisers believe are overrated:

1. Nassau, Bahamas

Nassau was the port mentioned most often as a disappointment in the comments. Many cruisers found it hard to relax near the port, with several complaining that “locals harass and haggle way too much.”

Others were unhappy with excursions, including pricey resort day passes or animal encounters that didn’t meet expectations, feeling like “$500 down the tubes” for their family. For a lot of people, the feeling was clear: “Any stop in Nassau is a quiet day on the ship for us.”

Nassau recently underwent a $300 million renovation project and has greatly improved since then.  Some cruisers may not have been there recently, but even for the ones that were there recently, apparently the port still has some work to do.

2. Cozumel, Mexico

Cruisers had mixed feelings about Cozumel. While many agreed that the underwater world is fantastic – with one saying, “Get underwater in Cozumel, the reef and sea life are incredible” – the land experience didn’t impress everyone. Some found the area near the port “pretty boring” compared to what they expected and felt that “The port is great to avoid,” meaning you often need to travel away from the ship to find the best experiences.

Personally, Cozumel is one of my favorite ports in the Caribbean and I love to snorkel there and often visit Chankanaab Park when I’m there.  There’s a ton to do in Cozumel, but perhaps it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

3. Jamaica (Ocho Rios / Falmouth)

Jamaican ports like Ocho Rios and Falmouth made some cruisers feel uncomfortable. They mentioned feeling unsafe or overwhelmed by constant pressure from vendors.

One commenter simply stated they avoid “Any in Jamaica,” while another shared the intensity of their negative gut feeling by saying, “That place scared…me, we got off, the ship and got right back on.”

4. Freeport, Bahamas

Freeport was often called a “throw away port” in the comment section of the post. Cruisers widely felt there wasn’t much interesting or easy to get to near the ship. The port area itself was seen as unappealing, leading one user to jokingly compare the view upon arrival to having “rolled into town to get an oil change!”

Admittedly, the port does have a strong industrial feel, and it takes a good bit of driving to find the hot spots to enjoy when in port.

5. Costa Maya, Mexico / Belize City, Belize

Though located in different countries, Costa Maya and Belize City were often mentioned together in the Reddit thread. This is because many cruisers felt they shared a similar issue: the immediate port or city area is often disappointing or feels a bit fake, like it lacks authenticity.

As one cruiser warned about visiting them, it “It’ll ruin your day!” The common feeling was that the port area itself, or the city center in Belize City (which some found “awful”), wasn’t the main draw. Instead, cruisers felt “the thing to do is get out to the cays [or take other excursions],” meaning the best experiences – like visiting ancient ruins or natural sites – require traveling a distance away from the port area.

Bottom Line

This list is really all based on opinion, and you might have a completely different point of view of these ports.

What one cruiser finds disappointing, another might absolutely love. It really just goes to show that your experience at any cruise port can be very different depending on what you’re looking for and what you choose to do.

Don’t let this list completely decide your plans but maybe use it as a heads-up to do a little extra research on these ports if they’re on your itinerary.
