The 8 Best Party Cruises For Fun & Nightlife

Cruises used to be seen as something more for the older crowd, but the last 20 years have really changed how it’s seen, and now there are some great cruises for families but also some amazing party cruises.

party cruise

Party cruises are generally shorter breaks that last two to four nights at most. They offer the perfect getaway when you just need to let your hair down and escape from everyday life. Party cruises are usually pretty cheap too, provided you live near the ports where they embark from.

So, let’s take a look at the best party cruises for adults including some themed cruises and some cruise lines that just offer a great party all year round, with some amazing bars and venues for you to check out.

1. Temptation Cruises

Temptation cruise

This special chartered cruise has been organised by Temptation Cruises – a company that specialises in cruises for adults. They’re some of the best party cruises for single people who really want to party and don’t mind things getting a little crazy after hours.

Taking place on Norwegian Pearl, expect the same high-quality accommodation and food that you’d normally get from an NCL cruise, as well as extras such as pool parties, topless-optional areas and a completely clothing-optional area of the ship.

There’s even a couples-only R-Rated Red Room, which is perfect for anyone who’s into the pineapple lifestyle to get it on.

Expect various themed nights on this 6-day cruise from Miami, with renowned DJs playing live sets too. There are 7 dining venues to choose from, and you’ll get an Unlimited Open Bar drinks package to enjoy too.

The ship will sail from Miami to Great Stirrup Cay, NCL’s private resort, and then onto Ocho Rios before returning back to Miami. There are two sea days on this itinerary.

You can see a little of what to expect from a Temptation Cruise in this video…

  • Date: 16th November 2025
  • Nights: 5
  • Prices from: $2,100

2. Electric Sunsets

While a lot of party cruises are designed for American passengers, sailing from one of the popular US ports, this themed cruise is very much a European classic. The latest Electric Sunsets cruise sailed in 2024 and the next is planned for 2025.

This is definitely not a cruise for the very young adults based on the acts chosen to perform – this is more aimed at your 30- to 40-year-olds who love a serious nostalgia kick. The latest Electric Sunsets cruise features classic acts such as Vengaboys, Go West, Phats & Small, A1, DJ Sash! (Encore Une Fois), Pat Sharp, and Sonia.

Taking place on Marella’s ship Marella Voyager, the cruise sails from Palma in Majorca to Barcelona and Alicante before returning to Palma. As well as dancing the night away to one of the amazing acts from the 90s and 00s, guests can enjoy optional excursions in the ports.

The ship is a little older, but if you’re looking for a party cruise closer to the UK and the Med then these itineraries are a great option for a short break. Plus, tickets include all-inclusive drinks, making them great value!

3. Music Cruises

Music cruise
Rock Legends Cruise

You may be surprised to learn just how many music-themed cruises are scheduled for 2025 and beyond. These feature some of your favourite artists as well as some fantastic tribute acts.

Whether you’re into rock, pop, electronic dance, blues, soul, reggae or even the sounds of the 60s and 70s, there’s sure to be a cruise that you’ll love. The age ranges of people who attend these cruises vary, and most of them are aimed at adults only. But if you book a music cruise, you can be sure to mingle with lots of others who are into the same thing.

See the full list of all music cruises here.

4. Virgin Voyages

Scarlet Lady party cruise

When you’re looking for a party cruise, the last thing you want is to risk accidentally booking one that’s packed with families with young children. This is what makes Virgin Voyages such a good choice – these party cruise ships are 100% adults-only.

And not only that – they are absolutely packed with amazing entertainment to keep you partying the whole night away. You’ll likely spend a lot of your time in The Manor – the two-story nightclub that begins the night with thrilling shows before making way to a full night of outstanding music.

But you also won’t want to miss Scarlet Night. Here the entire ship comes to life in new and exciting ways, with a host of different experiences that culminates in an epic pool party and runs late into the night in various venues. Don’t forget to pack something red to wear for the night.

Virgin Voyages doesn’t offer unlimited drink packages, but you can load up a pre-paid bar tab to cover your booze fund.

And when the partying is all done for the night, there are plenty of peaceful spots to recharge those batteries ahead of the next night, as well as some excellent dining venues so you can refuel.

5. Carnival

Carnival Cruise

While it’s true that a cruise with kids on board can sometimes kill the party vibe a touch, Carnival likes to prove itself to be the exception to that rule. Carnival is a really popular cruise line for all ages, and they do make for a fantastic cruise party option.

Part of the reason for that is their range of short, cheap weekend breaks (although you’ll need to live close to the port to really feel like you’re getting good value). If you’re looking for something that’s low-cost for Spring Break then they’re some of the best party cruises for college students since you don’t have to break the bank to afford them.

The ship hosts various different party nights depending on your itinerary, including the Mega Deck Party, 80s Night and the White Hot Night Party, all of which have an amazing atmosphere.

Carnival’s drink package is limited to 15 drinks per day, so if you start early enough in the day, you could run out of booze before the end of the night.

They’re also great for stag and hen (or bachelor and bachelorette) parties since you get all the fun of the partying at night, with some great daytime activities including mixology competitions, the at-sea roller coaster Bolt, loads of sports and dining options and more, depending on which ship you choose.

6. Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean music hall

Similar to Carnival, Royal Caribbean is a cruise line that sometimes gets painted as being only for families but in reality, it offers some fantastic party cruise options. If you’re looking for the best party cruises for young adults then these huge ships have a lot to offer.

Depending on your ship, there are countless different bars and lounges where you can party at night, along with different special events that last until the late hours. Deck parties are common, and are definitely tailored more at the adult crowd rather than the younger kids and families.

A lot of the 2-night cruises also head to Royal Caribbean’s own private island CocoCay in the Bahamas, so you can combine a party cruise with a tropical escape – dance late into the night, then soak up the sun as you recover on a quiet white-sand beach.

And one of the best things about Royal Caribbean for party cruises is the sheer choice of embarkation ports for short cruises. A lot of cruise lines limit your 2-night and 3-night cruises to departures from Florida, but with Royal Caribbean, you can sail from Texas or California, or even enjoy a Cyprus cruise departing from Israel if you live in Europe and want something a little closer.

If you choose Royal Caribbean, be sure to buy the unlimited drinks package, otherwise, you’ll be paying over $10 for each drink.

7. Norwegian Cruise Line

Silent disco on NCL Encor

One of the best reasons to choose a cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line is the sheer variety of bars that you can enjoy late into the night.

It’s not that they have more than other cruise lines – although they are definitely in the conversation – but nowhere else can you hop from an actual ice bar, to a Margaritaville at Sea lounge, before hitting a dedicated whiskey bar, and then onto a light-stick fueled adults-only nightclub.

The signature night is the White Hot Party, where guests are encouraged to wear white as they enjoy the latest music from popular DJs. Other themed nights include 70s Night, 80s Night and a Latin Night too, if you want to try something a little different.

Norwegian Cruise Line is another that offers greater variety for its 2-night and 3-night cruises, including departures from New York, Boston, Miami, Tampa and Orlando in the US, along with Lisbon, Barcelona and Granada in Europe if you want a short break party cruise on the east side of the Atlantic.

Many NCL cruises come with a drink package included in the deal, which is good, because the drinks are pretty expensive otherwise.

And NCL is another cruise line that offers plenty for you to enjoy during the day as well while you recover, including a huge choice of dining options and pools to help you rest up before your next late-night bash.

8. Celebrity Cruises

The Club on Celebrity Edge

Celebrity Cruises’ ships are considered to be slightly more premium and, during the day, tend to have an air of tranquillity about them. There are still plenty of interesting things to see and do, but the day on a Celebrity cruise is more about a luxury cocktail sat on the real grass lawn than it is about waterslides and ziplines.

But by night, Celebrity ships really come to life with a huge selection of themed nights and party events. These range from classic dance parties, to extravagant specialities including Wonder at Eden, the ever-changing experience that goes from a deep chill vibe one night to a full-blown gala the next.

Rock nights, 60s nights, Latin nights and Motown events ensure that there’s always something new and exciting to try, or hit the dancefloor and vibe to the ultimate extrasensory playlist in an epic silent disco.

And every June, Celebrity ships host the largest Pride party at sea, making them a great option for party cruises for LGBTQ+ guests. The cruise line can even perform same-sex weddings, so if you want a party cruise to celebrate your nuptials then why not do it all on a Celebrity sailing?

My recommendation

When you’re ready to blow off some steam, booking a short break party cruise is ideal. Sometimes they’re quite low priced, and you get all your food included, with drinks packages available.

Depending on the type of party cruise you want, you’ll be able to choose the best option from this list, whether that’s something just for the adults or a ship where you can have just as much fun in the daytime as in the evening.

And if you’re looking for a party cruise in the hopes of having a little bit of naughty fun, definitely check out my guide to the best cruises for singles looking to hook up.

Tragic Incident Leaves Cruise Passengers Injured Including Four Critical

A sightseeing excursion in Barcelona turned tragic on Monday, 3rd March, when a tour bus carrying cruise passengers was struck by another bus transporting Italian students.

Barcelona Bus Crash

The collision, which occurred on Avinguda Diagonal near the Sagrada Familia, left at least 53 people injured, including four – among them a child – who remain in critical condition.

The accident took place around 3 pm local time, as the Autocares Julià-operated tour bus was parked in a designated passenger drop-off zone.

The second bus, carrying students from Messina, Sicily, reportedly swerved to avoid a pedestrian who was illegally crossing the street, colliding with the stationary tour bus with enough force to push it onto the sidewalk, where it hit a tree and a lamppost.

A 60-year-old pedestrian was also struck in the incident, though it remains unclear whether they were the one who initially caused the crash or an unfortunate bystander caught in the chaos.

Emergency services quickly responded, with 19 ambulances, 10 firefighter units, and multiple police officers deployed to assist the injured.

Deputy Mayor Albert Batlle, speaking from the scene, confirmed the injuries:

“There are four critically injured, including a minor, and three less seriously injured. The rest have suffered less serious injuries for which they are being treated in various hospitals in Barcelona.”

The injured were transported to local hospitals, and the buses were removed from the site by 7.30 pm.

Impact on cruise passengers

The cruise passengers onboard the bus were of various nationalities, with most being British, German, or Italian, according to Autocares Julià.

“They were on a cruise liner which had arrived in Barcelona earlier today and was due to leave in the next few hours,” a company spokesperson told The Mirror.

Two cruise ships were docked in Barcelona Cruise Port on the day of the crash: Costa Toscana (Costa Cruises) and Star Legend (Windstar Cruises).

With some passengers requiring medical attention or unable to return to the pier in time, they may now face the difficult task of catching up with their ship at the next port or arranging alternative transport home.

Given the extraordinary circumstances, both cruise lines are likely working to assist affected guests with logistics, medical support, and repatriation efforts.

Catalonian regional president Salvador Illa addressed the accident on social media:

“Very concerned and awaiting the situation of the accident between two buses in Barcelona. I am in permanent contact with Mayor Jaume Collboni and the emergency services, whom I thank for their quick action. All my support to those affected.”

Barcelona has already imposed restrictions on cruise ships since October 2023, limiting where vessels can dock to combat pollution and overcrowding.

Mayor Jaume Collboni has since pushed for further restrictions, citing concerns over mass tourism.

With this tourist bus accident being one of several in recent months, some believe it could strengthen the movement to curb visitor numbers – and potentially tighten cruise ship regulations even further.

Cyclone Causes Cancelled Cruises With Passengers Stranded At Sea

Tropical Cyclone Alfred is wreaking havoc on cruise itineraries along the Queensland coast, forcing multiple cruise ships – including Carnival Luminosa, Pacific Encounter, and Quantum of the Seas – to remain at sea for several extra days due to the closure of Brisbane Port.

Brisbane Cyclone

With sustained winds reaching 102 miles per hour and the potential for dangerous flooding, the storm has prompted Australian authorities to shut down ports, airports, and public facilities, leaving thousands of cruise passengers unexpectedly stranded at sea.

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Luminosa, which was originally set to return to Brisbane on 6th March, has now been delayed until at least 9th March 2025, according to the ship’s captain, Captain Marchi – and it could be delayed beyond that.

The 2,260-guest ship had already cancelled its scheduled 3-night cruise that was due to depart on 6th March, with Carnival Cruise Line closely monitoring the storm’s progress before making further decisions.

The Carnival Luminosa cruise ship is captured cruising on a clear day with its red and black funnel standing out against the ship's white structure with yellow lifeboats. The name 'CARNIVAL LUMINOSA' is prominently displayed on the hull, highlighting the ship's identity as it makes its way across the serene blue waters.

Captain Marchi reassured guests that the ship remains safely positioned away from the cyclone’s strongest winds and rough seas, though there is still uncertainty regarding when the ship will be able to return.

Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, shared updates on Facebook, stating:

“I am thinking of the guests and crew on the Carnival Luminosa as she has another extra day at sea sheltering from the cyclone.”

The cruise line has yet to confirm compensation or alternative plans for affected passengers.

Heald did give a short update on the morning of 7th March, thanking the passengers for their patience and the crew for acting to keep everyone safe.

He did offer some trademark jokes about the situation too:

“I had people asking me yesterday if there was enough food on board? The best way I can answer that is tomorrow every guest will be provided with a fishing rod.

“Seriously, please don’t worry. The beards plan for this on every ship with extra food and provisions although this being a ship full of Australians and knowing how much they love to have Fun in any situation, there may be one or two ummmm, beverage items that may be running low.”

Pacific Encounter also stranded at sea

Passengers aboard P&O Cruises Australia’s Pacific Encounter were also caught in the storm’s disruption.

The 108,865-gross-ton ship, carrying up to 2,600 guests, was due back in Brisbane on 8th March but has now been forced to remain at sea indefinitely.

In a statement to passengers, P&O Cruises Australia said:

“The cyclone has slowed and is now expected to make landfall some time on Saturday morning and the port will be closed, preventing us from sailing as scheduled.”

Pacific Encounter was supposed to embark on a 7-night Pacific Island Hopper voyage, visiting Noumea and Lifou, New Caledonia, and Champagne Bay, Espiritu Santo, but these calls have now been cancelled due to the storm.

Passengers on the delayed cruise will remain on board until Brisbane Port reopens, while those scheduled for the now-cancelled Pacific Islands itinerary are waiting for further updates on whether an alternative sailing will be offered.

Quantum of the Seas’ return pushed back by three days

Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas, which left Brisbane on 28th February for a 7-night South Pacific sailing, is also caught in the cyclone’s aftermath.

The 4,180-passenger ship was originally scheduled to return on 7th March, but its arrival has been pushed back three days to 10th March.

Quantum of the Seas

As a result, the cruise line has cancelled its next 3-night mini-cruise, leaving thousands of would-be guests scrambling to make alternative travel plans.

Beyond these three vessels, several other cruise ships in the region have had to adjust their routes due to Cyclone Alfred’s intensifying conditions.

Norwegian Sun (Norwegian Cruise Line) and Queen Anne (Cunard) are also delayed in returning to Australian ports, and the Brisbane shipping channel remains closed, with officials awaiting a full post-storm damage assessment before reopening.

Authorities have issued flood warnings and advisories for much of Queensland and northern New South Wales, with rainfall expected to reach 30 inches in some areas.

With Brisbane Port closed and no clear timeline for reopening, thousands of cruise passengers face uncertain travel plans.

While the affected ships remain in safe waters, their extended time at sea is causing significant disruptions to upcoming itineraries.

Cruise lines are expected to offer compensation or alternative routes for affected guests, though details remain unclear. Passengers booked on upcoming cruises should check for updates as the situation develops.

For now, Carnival Luminosa, Pacific Encounter, and Quantum of the Seas will continue to shelter at sea, waiting for Cyclone Alfred to pass and for port authorities to give the all-clear.

Cruise Worker Censored? Behind-The-Scenes Footage Taken Down

One of the biggest cruise ships in the world is getting a long-overdue refurbishment – and thanks to one TikToker, cruise fans have been able to enjoy a sneak peek at what’s going on.

Allure of the Seas dry dock refurbishment

But the TikTok account eVASion_20s has been taken down, which begs the question on whether the cruise line is censoring the content to avoid guests seeing things they aren’t supposed to.

Before the account was removed, it had shared several videos of the dry dock renovation, highlighting different areas of the ship being worked on.

This included highlighting changes to the atrium and Royal Promenade area of the ship, updates for the spa, and a huge renovation to the pool deck.

Allure of the Seas renovations

It’s rare to see a cruise ship in this state – a sort of organised chaos, as protective wrappings and barriers are in place to look after features that are being preserved, and pallets of materials are stored throughout many open spaces.

Unfortunately just as the TikTok account was going viral, the videos have now disappeared, although some screenshots were taken before the videos were removed.

One other account has also posted a short walkthrough video of the ship during the renovation, and this remains live for now.

@starclasscruises Kondisi kapal pesiar yang sedang dry dock #sekolahkapalpesiar #sekolahperhotelan #sekolahpariwisata #sekolahkapalpesiar #starclasscruises #hospitality #cruises #royalcaribbean #wonderoftheseas #allureoftheseas ♬ original sound – SCC

It raises the question of whether the original TikTok account for eVASion_20s got too much attention and they were asked to remove the content by Royal Caribbean, who may not have wanted to show off the behind-the-scenes work.

There’s no guarantee that Royal Caribbean was behind the removal of the videos and TikTok account, but it would be odd for someone to start going viral on the platform and then decide they didn’t want the views.

Allure’s $100 million renovation

The renovations to Allure of the Seas are far from ordinary. With a staggering $100 million investment, Royal Caribbean is set to amplify the ship in ways that will undoubtedly excite both new and returning guests.

As part of its 2025 refurbishments, Allure will receive a variety of major updates, from thrilling new attractions to revamped dining and entertainment spaces.

One of the biggest changes coming to the ship is the complete redesign of its pool deck. Royal Caribbean has decided to elevate the vibe with a more vibrant, resort-inspired look.

Guests can expect new Caribbean-themed décor, upgraded seating areas, modern hot tubs, and the addition of The Lime & Coconut pool bar, which has become a popular feature on other ships.

This revamped area will be perfect for guests looking to lounge by the pool or enjoy a refreshing drink while soaking up the sun.

For those in search of adrenaline, Allure will add the Ultimate Abyss, the longest dry slide at sea. This heart-racing slide will stretch 150 feet above the ocean, offering riders a thrilling drop down to the lower decks.

Designed to look like the mouth of an anglerfish, the slide’s entrance features a glass floor, giving guests a jaw-dropping view of the ship’s aft.

In addition to the Ultimate Abyss, Allure will also feature the Perfect Storm water slides, a fan favorite on other Oasis Class ships.

These slides include two racer slides and a thrilling champagne bowl slide, all included in the cruise fare. For younger guests, Splashaway Bay will get a makeover, offering fountains, slides, and other fun features designed especially for kids.

The area will even include a special zone for toddlers, making it a perfect family-friendly destination.

Looking for a new place to unwind? The ship will also see the addition of the Pesky Parrot bar.

A fun twist on the traditional tiki bar, it will feature a variety of fruit-based cocktails and frozen drinks, giving guests a taste of the Caribbean right on the Royal Promenade. It promises to be a lively spot to relax and socialise while enjoying some delicious beverages.

As with any major renovation, Allure is set to get some exciting new dining options.

Among them is the Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade, where guests can enjoy food while playing classic arcade games. Mason Jar will bring southern American comfort food to the high seas, and El Loco Fresh will offer delicious Mexican cuisine.

Luxury will take on a new meaning with the addition of the Ultimate Panoramic Suite, offering sweeping 200-degree views and over 900 square feet of space.

Families, too, will have more options to enjoy their cruise with updated Adventure Ocean spaces for kids, including new interactive zones for art, science, and tech.

Teenagers will also have their own dedicated space with Social298, a modern hangout designed just for them.

The renovations are set to be complete in April 2025.

Cruise Fares Unpaid As Travel Agent On Brink?

Thousands of holidaymakers have been left scrambling for answers after UK-based travel firm Jetline Holidays lost its ATOL (Air Travel Organiser’s Licence) protection and ceased trading as an ATOL holder on 6th March 2025.

Jetline Holidays

The collapse has impacted nearly 5,000 customers, with many discovering their cruise bookings have been cancelled due to an alleged breach of contract with Carnival Corporation and other cruise operators.

Jetline Holidays, which has operated for over 20 years and worked with major cruise lines such as Princess Cruises, Cunard, Holland America Line, and P&O Cruises, has been hit hardest by Carnival Corporation’s decision to terminate all bookings made through Jetline.

While ceasing to trade as an ATOL member does not guarantee that the company will cease to exist altogether, it does mean that it can’t sell protected package holidays, and it signifies financial problems that could result in the company going into liquidation.

In a statement, Carnival Corporation addressed the situation, saying:

“We recognize how disappointing this news will be for affected guests and express our sincere apologies for the disruption caused.”

While no further details of the breach have been disclosed, Carnival Corporation has instructed customers to contact Jetline Holidays directly – but many have reported being unable to reach the company.

Norwegian Cruise Line also warns customers

Beyond Carnival Corporation, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has also begun reaching out to Jetline customers.

One customer shared on social media that her mother had paid her full cruise balance six weeks ago, only to receive a call from NCL informing her that Jetline had gone into administration.

“NCL only received £100 from the booking company and told my mother that she needed to pay the remaining £965.38 within 48 hours to keep her booking.”

Similar stories have emerged from Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, and MSC Cruises passengers, with many now uncertain whether their cruise bookings remain valid.

Attempts to contact Jetline Holidays have been largely unsuccessful.

  • Their websites remain online, but sections such as “About Us” and “Contact Us” return error messages.
  • Calls to the company go unanswered.
  • Comments have been turned off on their social media pages.

Jetline’s director, Steven Roberts, has acknowledged the crisis, stating:

“We are trying to deal with various issues. Hopefully, we will have an update on what is going on very shortly.”

However, no further communication has been provided to affected customers.

What does this mean for customers?

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed that Jetline is no longer ATOL protected, which significantly limits customers’ options for refunds and rebookings.

  • Customers with P&O Cruises bookings are being transferred directly to the cruise line, ensuring their trips remain intact.
  • Bookings sold as “accommodation only,” non-flight packages, and cruise-only bookings are NOT protected under ATOL, meaning passengers may have to pay again for services not yet settled by Jetline.
  • The CAA is working to confirm the status of ATOL-protected bookings and will provide updates as soon as possible.

Customers should check their ATOL Certificate under the “Who is protecting your trip?” section to determine if their booking is covered. If the listed ATOL holder is still trading, they should contact that company directly for further assistance.

Jetline Holidays operated under multiple brand names, including:

  • Jetline Cruise
  • Bargain Late Holidays
  • Best Priced Holidays
  • Elegant Getaways
  • Cruise & More
  • Our Best Holidays
  • Save on Sun

With a reported turnover of £28 million in 2023, Jetline’s sudden downfall raises questions on whether stricter regulations are needed to protect customers from sudden cancellations.

If you booked a holiday or cruise through Jetline Holidays, here’s what you should do immediately:

  • Contact your cruise line to check if your booking is still valid.
  • If your cruise is cancelled, ask about rebooking directly with the cruise line.
  • Check your ATOL certificate – if your booking was flight-inclusive and the ATOL provider is still trading, contact them for a refund.
  • If you paid via credit card, contact your bank about potential chargeback options.
  • Monitor the CAA website for further updates regarding refunds and assistance.

With thousands of passengers affected, it remains to be seen whether Jetline Holidays will issue refunds or officially enter administration. For now, many travellers remain in limbo, uncertain if their dream holidays will go ahead.

The Largest And Most Impressive Cruise Ship Casinos

The Allure of the Seas holds the record for the largest cruise ship casino, boasting 18,000 square feet of gaming space. With a guest capacity of 5,400, this Royal Caribbean ship offers two dozen restaurants, 15 bars, and activities like rock climbing, mini-golf, and outdoor movie screenings.

Casino Royale, located in the heart of the ship, hosts 27 table games, covering blackjack, craps, roulette, and baccarat. Three Card Poker, Mississippi Stud, and other novelty games fill out the selection. The 456-slot lineup includes popular titles like Buffalo, Buffalo Stampede, and 88 Fortunes.

A designated non-smoking casino on Deck 4 has a few tables and dozens of slots for those looking for a different environment.

Oasis of the Seas: A Close Second

Oasis of the Seas, the sister ship to Allure, launched in 2009. A 2019 renovation brought new dining concepts, an eleven-story slide, and a water park, though some casino space was reduced.

The 15,000-square-foot casino includes 24 tables and 464 slots. A no-smoking section offers three tables and 46 machines. Despite downsizing, it remains one of the largest cruise ship casinos.

Casinos at Sea: More Than Slots and Blackjack

A cruise ship casino is more than a collection of slot machines and table games. Poker tables attract those looking to compete in something beyond luck-based wagers. Playing poker on a cruise ship can feel different from a traditional cardroom, with smaller player pools and a more relaxed atmosphere. The games range from casual no-limit hold’em to structured tournaments, often drawing a mix of regulars and vacationers testing their skills.

While poker is available, cruise casinos focus on high-action games like blackjack and craps. Slot tournaments and progressive jackpots are common, keeping the energy on the casino floor high.

Norwegian Epic: A Unique Standalone

Launched in 2010, Norwegian Epic was meant to have sister ships, but plans changed, making it the only vessel of its class. Holding about 5,300 guests over 19 decks, this ship features 15 restaurants, multiple bars, and entertainment designed for theater lovers.

The casino spans 13,000 square feet, supporting 348 slots and 28 table games, including blackjack, craps, roulette, and poker variations. A large layout helps alleviate ventilation concerns common in some cruise casinos.

Symphony of the Seas: Cutting Down Without Compromising

Symphony of the Seas, introduced in 2018, follows the Oasis design while updating staterooms and amenities. The 12,000-square-foot casino hosts nearly the same number of tables (24) and slots (452) as Oasis and maintains a strong game selection.

Sun Princess: A Modern Approach

Princess Cruises introduced Sun Princess in February 2024 with 4,300-passenger capacity. Named after the original ship featured on The Love Boat, this vessel includes a three-story dining hall and an open-glass atrium named The Piazza.

The 9,000-square-foot casino houses 17 table games and 227 slot machines, making it the largest casino Princess Cruises has designed. Progressive jackpots are linked across blackjack and poker games, and a dedicated Buffalo Zone features multiple Buffalo-themed slot machines. A high-limit slot area offers upgraded seating for extended play sessions.

Norwegian Escape: Tightly Packed Action

Norwegian Escape, a Breakaway Plus class ship, carries 4,000 guests and focuses on entertainment, featuring Broadway-style performances and a relaxed dining policy with no formal requirements.

The 8,000-square-foot casino maximizes space with 23 tables and 318 slots. Table games include Pai Gow, Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, blackjack, craps, and roulette. Machines are updated regularly with popular titles from land-based casinos.

Carnival Celebration: Packed With Variety

Carnival Celebration, an Excel Class ship launched in 2022, carries over 5,300 guests. The 24 onboard restaurants include Guy’s Burger Joint and Smokehouse, both tied to TV personality Guy Fieri.

An 800-foot-long roller coaster named Bolt makes this ship unique, offering a high-speed attraction on the top deck.

The casino sits at 5,000 square feet, containing 15 tables and over 200 slots. A reader poll in Newsweek named it the best cruise ship casino in 2023.

Common Cruise Casino Questions

Casinos on cruise ships operate outside the jurisdiction of traditional gaming commissions, meaning regulations vary by the country the ship is registered under. While slots on U.S. soil typically return around 90% to players, some reports suggest cruise slot payout percentages may be closer to 80%, though data confirming this is limited.

U.S. citizens must report any gambling winnings to the IRS, regardless of where the money is won. A jackpot over $1,200 triggers a W-2G form, and major cruise lines enforce 24% tax withholding for large payouts.

Not every cruise ship includes a casino. Some, like Norwegian’s Pride of America, stay within Hawaiian waters and cannot legally operate one. Checking casino availability before booking is advised.

Many ships register under countries such as the Bahamas, and some agreements exist with the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which offers industry guidelines. However, passenger spending is the strongest factor influencing casino operations.

Carnival Cruise Ship Struck by Small Sailboat in Galveston

Carnival Jubilee will need some touch-up paint along the bow after an incident in Galveston over the weekend.

The newest ship in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet was still docked in port when a small sailboat reportedly collided with the 183,521 gross ton ship.

While there is still no word as to how this happened, people near the dock witnessed the entire ordeal in disbelief as the collision unfolded.

An eyewitness to the collision stated, “He went straight into it,” when asked, “How do you hit that?” referring to the size of the massive ship docked in port and it’s bright blue hull.

As the sailboat moved away from the cruise ship’s bow, a crowd cheered in the background, even after an onlooker remarked that the mast of the small boat was scratching the paint on Carnival Jubilee.

Pictures and video of the incident show a pilot boat coming along to help the sailboat move out from under the bow of the cruise ship.

One commenter on the Facebook post revealed a possible reason for the collision:

“I believe that the strong current, the inexperience of the sailboat captain, and, safe bet, alcohol had a great deal to do with this collision,” the comment stated.

While the weather appeared to be relatively calm and there is no evidence of alcohol being involved, the commenter also warned of possible trouble for the pilot boat that helped the sailboat in its predicament.

“It should be noted that the captain of the Texas went far beyond his duty when he put a line on the sailboat. When any vessel takes another in tow, for any reason, the captain of that vessel immediately becomes liable for any damages that occur subsequently. That poor guy will probably end up in court as a thanks for his doing the right thing,” the comment went on to say, also adding they they were glad no one was hurt.

Close-up images from the incident reveal a minor scratch on the ship’s hull, caused by the sailboat’s scraping.  This appeared to be the only damage and should not impact the current sailing.

The 5,228 double-capacity Carnival Jubilee is currently sailing toward Honduras and is on schedule to arrive in Roatan on March 4.  The ship will arrive back in Galveston on March 8.

First Impressions of a Cruise Line I’ve Never Sailed on Before, Celestyal Cruises

I have cruised all around on the world on close to 20 different cruise lines. I’ve heard a lot about Celestyal Cruises but have never cruised on them.  My dentist loves their smaller ships and port intensive itineraries, and he always tells me about them.

When Celestyal Cruises invited me to cruise on their new popular itinerary Desert Days, I was excited to say yes and finally check them out.

I am currently on board Celestyal Journey for a seven-night cruise in the Persian Gulf. I am sailing with a group of international journalists, and after spending a few days on board, here are my first impressions of Celestyal Cruises.

Cruise Ship

This is the “newest” ship in the cruise line’s fleet. I actually prefer smaller ships like this on port intensive itineraries. The vessel is 55,000 gross tons in size so it’s easy to move from one place on the ship to another.

Celestyal Journey had previously been in service with Holland America Line and P&O Cruises, so it has some miles under its belt. The public spaces on the ship are modern and in good shape, yet it offers a nostalgic feel from a ship built over 30 years ago.

The ship recently completed a dry dock, so most of the furniture and carpet is all brand new.

One of the things that has impressed me is the number of public spaces and lounges for a ship this size. This creates lots of opportunities for different types of live music at night and there’s no issue trying to find a place to sit and relax.

Even though there are 1,202 passengers on board (96% capacity), the ship does not feel crowded at all. I was shocked when I saw the total number of passengers on board because it feels like the ship is sailing at 50% capacity. And it’s not just me. Other people I am traveling with said the same thing.

If you’ve been following Cruise Fever for any amount of time, you know that I love it when the ship’s main pool has a retractable roof on it. It helps create so much more useable space at night or when the weather isn’t cooperating.

Celestyal Journey pool deck

This is not the only pool, there is also one in the aft.

This cruise isn’t about the ship, it’s about the destinations that you will visit.

Itinerary

This is a seven-day roundtrip cruise from Doha, Qatar that visits a port every day of the trip. We will visit Bahrain, Dubai (overnight), Sir Bani Yas, Oman, and Abu Dhabi on this port intensive itinerary.

This is my first time cruising in the Middle East and I’m loving the itinerary. Celestyal Cruises recently extended their season here due to popular demand and I now understand why.

I’ve felt completely safe in every place we’ve visited so far. All of the port stops are in extremely modern cities that are loaded with cultural experiences and history, with an exception for the island, Sir Bani Yas.

Cruise fares start at a little over a $100 per person, per day. This includes drinks during meals. You can choose between a three-, four-, or seven-night option as several of the ports are embarkation/disembarkation cities.

Crew

The crew has been fantastic during the first few days of my cruise. It’s one of the friendliest group of crew members I’ve ever sailed with. I can’t say enough good things about them.

One of the bartenders started doing some card tricks with us one night, I’ve never had that happen on a cruise before. He told us that on one night of the cruise, they do a magic show in the bar for guests.  I can’t wait to check that out!

Coffee shop on Celestyal Journey

Other First Thoughts

There is a small casino on board, 24 slot machines and three table games. Even though there are only 24 slots, you can choose anywhere from 10-25 different games on each one.

All of the inside spaces on the ship are no smoking, thank you Celestyal Cruises!

Since Celestyal has yet to roll out their app (It’s in progress I’m told), they still deliver paper daily programs to your cabin.  I forgot how much easier it is to have a paper than endless scrolling in an app.

The busiest part of the ship has been the buffet. With a port intensive itinerary, more guests tend to prefer casual meals.

There are several specialty restaurants on board that I can’t wait to check out.  One morning we had breakfast in the main dining room. It’s all buffet options but I thought it was really good.

I was able to check out a couple of the shows in the main theater. So far, they have been the standard song and dance shows. But that makes sense since there’s guests from so many different countries on here. However, English is the main language spoken board.

I’ve found a couple “Easter Eggs” on board from the ship’s time with Holland America Line. I’m glad they left a few things on the ship as a nod to the ship’s storied heritage.

I want to give a special shoutout to Qatar Airways for flying me to Doha in one of their signature Qsuites. I will have more on that and a lot more on this cruise and cruise line when I get home from the trip.

What You Should Do on the Last Day of Your Cruise

what to do no last day of cruise
Harmony of the Seas. Copyright: Cruise Fever

The first day of the cruise is my favorite.  There’s no better feeling than to finally be onboard, exploring the ship, or lounging with that first drink on board.

There’s an entire fun-filled vacation ahead of you and it feels like it’s going to last forever.  But sadly, that feeling gradually fades as the week progresses and the days tick by.

Before you know it, it’s now the last day of the cruise and your vacation is almost over.  It’s as sad and depressing as that first day was exciting.

Whether your cruise’s final day is a relaxing day at sea or a visit to a cruise line private island, there are a few extra things that you’ll need to take care of in preparation for the following morning’s debarkation.

1. Debarking Information

cruise balcony in port

The room steward should leave debarkation instructions in your room the evening before.  If you haven’t already taken a look at it, read the instructions in the morning so that you won’t be surprised at the last minute by any details.

Even if you are frequent cruiser with the line, it’s still a good idea to take a look at the instructions as cruise lines periodically update their procedures to help make the entire process go more smoothly.

2. Luggage Tags

Many cruise lines are increasingly moving towards digital debarkation processes. Apps or digital notifications will inform passengers of their debarkation times and procedures, eliminating the need for physical tags.

Traditionally, room stewards have left luggage tags in staterooms along with debarking information. The luggage tags use a color and/or number identification system. The color/number tags correspond to a time frame when it is anticipated that passengers with those tags will be able to debark the ship.

The debarking paperwork should contain a schedule; letting you know what time your group is scheduled for.

If the time does not work with your travel plans, you will need to visit Guest Services and request different luggage tags.

Do this in the morning if at all possible.  The lines at Guest Services are generally extremely long on the evening of the last day.

Some cruise lines have changed the process for luggage tag distribution.  Instead of tags being left in your stateroom, there will be a central distribution point.  You will be responsible for going to the distribution point and picking up the tags you need.

The debarkation paperwork will let you know where to go to pick them up.

The earliest times go first and go quickly, so if you have an early flight out the next morning, make sure you know where and when you can pick up tags.

3. Future Cruise Booking

royal caribbean and holland america

If you’re eyeing those onboard future cruise booking promotions, don’t wait until the last minute—these deals are popular, and the future cruise desk often gets swamped, especially on the final day.

Check the cruise line’s mobile app or daily newsletter for desk hours and booking details; many cruise lines now let you start the process digitally, sometimes with app-exclusive bonuses like extra onboard credit. To snag the best perks—think reduced deposits or bonus loyalty points—aim to book early in your cruise.

Most cruise lines today offer the option to put down a deposit on an open booking, so you can lock in savings without committing to a specific ship or sail date right away. This flexibility is perfect for planning ahead, with some lines letting you decide on your cruise as far out as 2027.

You can typically make the deposit onboard and apply it to a specific sailing later—just check if it’s as simple as submitting a form through the app or dropping it off at the desk. If you’re sailing with Carnival, you’ve got even more leeway: their future cruise program lets you book after you’re back home, often with similar perks.

4. Check Onboard Accounts

Keeping an eye on the charges being made to your onboard account is something you really should be doing throughout the cruise.  Mistakes do happen and Guest Services is happy to investigate any issues and make corrections.

More often than not, the charges are legitimate.  After a few days, it’s easy to forget a purchase or it’s simply not displayed in a way you think it would be.

For instance, charges made at a bar you never visited.  It could be that it is the bar location used for drinks ordered in the dining room or from main theater.

If you have any questions about the charges, it’s best not to wait until the last night of the cruise or the morning of debarkation.  Guest Services has huge lines, and standing in lines on the last day of your vacation isn’t any fun.

5. Shopping

shopping on a cruise

The final day of the cruise is a little like Christmas Eve.  It’s their last chance to entice you to spend in the gift shops so it’s possible to find deals that weren’t happening earlier on in the week.

You’ll also want to take advantage of any duty-free prices on popular items you may regularly buy at home like alcohol and cigarettes.

6. Photo Purchases

If you haven’t looked at or made your photo purchases, try and get to it early in the day.  By evening, the photo area is swarmed with passengers trying to find their photos and make those last minute purchases.

Today’s ships use facial recognition technology to help you find your photos a lot faster than the “old days”.

If your ship has moved to digital photos or is placing them in “books”, it makes finding and purchasing much easier.  However, if the ship is still displaying photos on shelves, it’s a good idea to gather all of your photos and group them together each day.

The photography staff will still move them around as they make room to display new photos, but you’ll have a better chance of finding all of your photos on the final day so that you can pick and choose which ones to purchase.

You may able to make photo purchases the final morning of the cruise, but you could be searching through several huge bins of photos to find yours.

7. Casino

Onboard casinos generally don’t have a specific time when they close in the evening; instead, the newsletters often just state that they will be open “until late”.  Regardless, they won’t be open the morning of debarkation, since they are closed when docked in U.S. ports.

Those who have been enjoying gambling in the casino will need to cash in their chips before going to bed.

Anyone playing electronic games, like slot machines, and has casino money tied to their cruise card, will also need to visit the casino cashier to cash out at some point during the last day of the cruise.

8. Packing

At some point on the last day, you’ll need to pack. Packing is my least favorite part of the cruise.   Everything except the things you’ll need on the last night and next morning needs to be packed up and placed outside your cabin door by the time noted in your debarkation paperwork.

Many passengers pack right before or after dinner.  That feels hectic and ruins the last evening of the cruise for me.    I much prefer to get this unpleasant chore over with earlier in the day.  I may still have to throw a few things in that I used or wore during the last day, but then my evening is free to enjoy.

Nothing ever fits as well or as neatly as it did on my way to the cruise.  I’ve tried a variety of ways to make it a little quicker and easier.  Packing cubes can be helpful.  If I know I’m not going to use or wear something again during the cruise, it goes into a packing cube that stays in the closet or on a shelf.  It’s much easier to throw filled packing cubes into a suitcase than gather and fold each item of clothing.

Just as your luggage arrived to your stateroom, it will be taken the evening before debarkation and you won’t see it again until you are off the ship.  You’ll want to hang on to things like medications and leave room in a small bag or two for things you’ll need that last evening and morning.  Those bags you’ll carry off the ship yourself.

Most ships also offer the option of self-debarkation.  If you opt to take part in this, you won’t place any bags outside your door the night before.  Instead, you’ll be responsible for carrying all of your luggage off the ship yourself.  The advantage is that you are generally some of the first passengers off the ship.  It is particularly useful for those with early morning flights home.

9. Recognizing Crew Members

crew members

Most cruise lines have moved to automatic or pre-paid gratuities, doing away with the handing out of gratuities on the final evening of the cruise.  However, it is still a good time to reward the crew members with a little something extra.

Working 7 days a week is difficult and draining, yet many crew members manage to exceed expectations and do it with a smile.  It’s nice to say thank you and hand a little extra cash to anyone who has helped make your cruise more enjoyable or memorable.

Certain positions do not share in automatic gratuities, for instance, the staff in the kids’ clubs.  If your child has been participating in and enjoying the youth programs, cash gratuities are appropriate and appreciated.

The only exception is with Disney Cruise Line.  The youth program staff on Disney is not allowed to accept tips.

If you choose not to hand out any additional gratuities, you can still recognize them in end-of cruise surveys.  If you mention crew members by name and position in your comments on cruise surveys, it helps them earn bonuses and promotions.

10. Airline Check-In

If you have a Wi-Fi package or are in port will cellular service, you should check in for any flights the next day.  This is especially true if flying Southwest where boarding position is determined by when you check in.

It is also advised for any early morning flights when timing for getting off the ship and to the airport might be tight.

If neither of those options is available, go the ship’s Internet center and find out if you can pay for a short block of Internet access.  You may even be able to print off boarding passes.

11. Set an Alarm

It may have been a fantastic week of sleeping in, but you won’t be able to enjoy it the morning of debarkation.  Room stewards need a lot of time to properly clean staterooms and get them turned over for the next group of passengers.

It’s not uncommon for passengers to oversleep the last morning.  Set an alarm or schedule a wake-up call to avoid accidentally oversleeping. The time you’ll need to vacate the room will be mentioned in the debarkation information.

12. Start a Final Night Tradition

My family is always a little sad on the last night. We’ve said goodbye to our favorite staff members and the kids have made friends that they’ll likely never see again.  It’s kind of bummer picking them up from the kids club and seeing them sad after a great cruise.  Starting a tradition gave us something to look forward to.

Instead of heading back to our stateroom and going to bed, we started doing “last night” fun activities.  Fortunately, kids are easy to please and doing anything out of ordinary puts smiles on their faces.  We frequently end up getting some late night pizza and ice cream followed by a little hot tubbing under the stars.  Our swimsuits tend to still be a little damp when packing the last of our things up the next morning, but it’s been fun and memorable.

13. Debarkation Morning Tip

If you aren’t trying to be one of the first ones off the ship the morning of debarkation, the best place to kill some time may be the dining room.

Breakfast up in the buffet can be chaotic as passengers are trying to get breakfast and store the bags they are carrying off.  Meanwhile, the dining room is delightfully dead. There is plenty of room for bags and you can sit in a relaxed atmosphere.

The options are more limited than what the buffet has to offer, but it’s nice to order from a menu for your final onboard dining experience.

14. Have fun!

The last day of a cruise is still a day on a cruise!  Although there are things you’ll need to take care of that can be a bit of a chore, you should make the most of it.

Celestyal Modifying 3- and 4-Day Cruises Due to Guest Feedback

Celestyal Cruises, a boutique cruise line with two ships in service, is modifying their three- and four-night cruises in 2025-2026 based on feedback they’ve received from guests and travel agents.

Celestyal Cruises

The cruise line is adding additional port visits to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha. They are also adding in a new port stop in Ras Al Klaimah.

Celestyal renamed the two itineraries and they are now as follows.

  • Iconic Arabia – This three-night itinerary visits Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sir Bani Yas Island. These weekend cruises depart on Friday and return on Monday and starts at $359 per person.
  • Iconic Arabia – This four-night itinerary that sails during the week stops at Abu Dhabi, Doha and Oman. This cruise leaves on Monday and returns on Friday and starts at $459 per person.

The prices above are part of the cruise line’s current “Live Your Vacation Dream” promotion available on new bookings made until March 16, 2025.  It includes up to €100 (approximately $105 USD) of complimentary specialty drinks and dining per person pre-loaded on each guest’s CelestyalPay tab (note: prices are in Euros as that is the currency used onboard).

Lee Haslett, Chief Commercial Officer at Celestyal, gave the following statement about the these new changes:

“We strive to deliver unmissable experiences, and in doing so, constantly listen to our guests and travel agent community. Following a hugely successful first season in the Arabian Gulf we learned more about what our guests and partners would like to see and are excited to announce these changes based on their feedback.

“Since launching our winter season of Arabian Gulf itineraries, we’ve been thrilled by the positive response and the growing interest from both repeat and new-to-cruise customers in exploring this spectacular region.

“Our guests have told us they love iconic destinations like Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi, as well as discovering more off-the-beaten-track ports that are synonymous with a Celestyal voyage, such as Sir Bani Yas Island and the coastal resort of Khasab.

“We’re known for our destination immersive and port intensive cruises, so we have refined our 2025 itineraries to offer more time in our guests’ favorite ports, while adding an additional port in the stunning Ras Al Khaimah.”
