Cruise Couple Reveal Wi-Fi Cost of 17 Back-to-Back Sailings on World Cruise

Four months into the viral 9-month World Cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas, a couple has revealed an extra cost they didn’t originally plan on.

World Cruise Serenade of the Seas

During an interview with Yahoo News UK, Joshua Terry and his fiancée Ina Ar said they are paying $25.99 per day for Wi-Fi on the ship.  This equates to $181.93 per week and about $6,500 for the duration of the 9-month voyage (if there are no other discounts included and Wi-Fi is purchased for every day).

Joshua said he tried to get free Wi-Fi as a recourse for some difficulty the couple had early on, like the cabin phone not working properly, but the two were offered a bottle of wine instead.

While it’s not clear if the couple pays for Wi-Fi on a daily basis, Joshua did say he has used the internet connection to post TikToks of the cruise and has even gained over 15,000 followers on the platform.

This World Cruise has become famous for the number of regular TikTok updates and reality-TV-show-like stories that pop up on a weekly basis.

Social media posting and constant filming on board has become a slightly sensitive topic on the ship as well.

“There are people on the ship who are like, ‘I hate TikTokers and social media’. They’re here trying to enjoy the cruise, and there are people who are just filming. There was an announcement at one point where a staff member said: ‘We won’t have WiFi, so there’ll be no more TikToks for a bit’, and everyone cheered,” Joshua added.

The cruise originally sold for around $60,000 per person, but the couple said they found that buying each individual leg of the cruise ended up being cheaper.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest cruise news and deals: Sign Up

So instead of paying for one cruise, the couple bought 17 separate legs of the World Cruise.  These legs can be 2 to 4 weeks in length.

Booking these legs separately means that after each leg the couple has to pack up all their belongings and check back into a different cabin.

“They came out with a new one with 17 small legs and then it became the whole cruise, so then we noticed the price is much better than the chunky one booking,” Ina said.

Apparently, the hassle of calling a new cabin home every few weeks was worth the lower cost.

Joshua and Terry do not have to worry about a house payment or rent back home, however.

The couple sold their vehicle, investments, and even used some of their savings to go on this epic journey.  And as they are currently between houses and plan to move into a house once they get back, they have no extra expense of an unused home back on land.

Both quit their jobs, one as a comedy club manager and the other at an IT company.

“We already got rid of everything and just hopped on the world cruise, so we’re not paying rent anywhere,” Joshua stated.

The couple has stated they would like to get married on the ship during this cruise, but itinerary changes have made it difficult to make solid arrangements so far.

The 9-month World Cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas is a non-stop buzz generator it seems.

On a weekly basis new stories emerge from this epic voyage, making the cruise more like a reality TV show than a vacation.

The Ultimate World Cruise on Serenade of the Seas is labeled as “The most epic world cruise ever to set sail” by Royal Caribbean.  The trip will include 8 world wonders, 60+ countries with 274 nights on board.

Currently, Serenade of the Seas is sailing near the coast of Japan with an upcoming stop in Vietnam before the ship will sail to Singapore on April 24th.

Viking Announces New Mongolia Extension For China Voyages

Viking® has announced that for the first time it is offering guests destination-focused experiences in Mongolia with the new Spirit of Mongolia extension program. The five-night, fully guided Pre or Post extension will allow guests to further immerse themselves in the rich traditions of the region, from the ancient city of Ulaanbaatar to the Gobi Desert. The Spirit of Mongolia and a variety of other Pre and Post extensions, including Hong Kong and Beijing, are available for Viking’s new, first-of-their-kind China itineraries: Best of China, China Discovery, Classic China & the Coast and Wonders of China.

New Mongolia Extension for China Voyages

“We were proud to announce our new China ocean voyages recently, and we are now pleased to offer guests our first experiences in Mongolia,” said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking. “Our guests are curious travelers who are interested in experiences that broaden their minds. With its geographic diversity and incredible history, Mongolia is an extraordinary destination making it a natural extension to our new China itineraries.”

Guests booked on the five-night Spirit of Mongolia Pre or Post extension will begin their journey in the city of Ulaanbaatar, where they will meet their Viking Representative and explore the sites of the city – including the Chinggis Khaan National Museum, Mongolia’s largest and most contemporary cultural institution, then step behind the scenes for a look at fossil specimens and more in the paleontology lab.

After a day exploring the city, guests will continue their journey on to Dalanzadgad, where they will transfer to the award-winning Three Camel Lodge, an eco-lodge nestled in the foothills of the Altai Mountains in the Gobi Desert near the Gurvan Saikhan National Park. At the Three Camel Lodge, guests will enjoy comfortable accommodations in their own ger, an authentic yurt updated with modern amenities. For three days, guests may partake in lodge activities at their own pace including archery, a camel safari or an exploration of the famous Flaming Cliffs. Guests can also choose to join fellow early risers for a sunrise trek through the desert hills with a naturalist guide or take in panoramic views of the steppe from Bulagtai Mountain to examine ancient petroglyphs. Alternatively, guests can learn the secrets of making buuz (steamed dumplings) from the lodge’s Mongolian chef. Following their time in the Gobi Desert, guests will return to Ulaanbaatar for additional exploration for one night before continuing their journey home or embarking on their Viking voyage in China.

In addition to the new Spirit of Mongolia extension, Viking is offering four other immersive Pre and Post extensions for guests looking to explore more of China. The World’s Most Powerful Passports In 2024

Citizenship of certain countries is extremely popular because it allows one to enjoy greater freedom of movement and other privileges. Of course, not every passport offers these benefits.

Specialized platforms regularly publish ratings of such documents to help cosmopolitans navigate the ever-changing environment. They help determine the best investment citizenship programs to participate in to acquire the status of a full-fledged resident.

Powerful Passports in 2024

This year, after a lengthy analysis, the leading states whose citizenship is in exceptionally high demand among ordinary tourists and those seeking to expand their rights and freedoms have been identified this year. To become a legal resident as quickly as possible, applicants can participate in special programs that help them get the most powerful passport to hold in 2024.

According to Vladlena Baranova, a leading expert at Immigrant Invest, applicants must carefully analyze the priorities they receive, as laws vary from country to country. This article will tell you about the best passports in the 2024 ranking.

What Makes a Passport Powerful

If we talk about the value of a civil document, most of those who want to change their place of residence attach importance to such factors:

  • the possibility to visit as many countries as possible without a visa;
  • availability of medicine and other critical resources;
  • the applicant’s difficulty obtaining the proposed status, the program’s conditions, and the quality of service working within the framework of a particular project.

An applicant wishing to possess a strong passport and speed up the process must fulfill several requirements. Attention is predominantly paid to visa rules to assess the effectiveness of each document. Free visits to the most interesting corners of the planet are one of the main priorities for lovers of exotic tours and unforgettable adventures.

According to Vladlena Baranova, an expert of the Immigrant Invest agency, research on travel restrictions is very important, because we can use it to determine how significant the result will be for those who have taken part in their chosen national project. A passport is not only a document that confirms citizenship of a particular country, but also a way to get to many corners of the world.

Best Passports to Hold in 2024

The leading countries offering the most favorable citizenship have not changed over the past few years. According to the 2019 ranking, Japan and Singapore were attractive to wealthy investors looking to invest in their future. However, things have changed, and the latest Henley ranking list now includes France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. The main reason for this is the increase in the number of states where you can get in without a visa due to the loyal power policy and having a passport of these four countries.

The list below is a list of the most powerful passports that are available to wealthy investors today:

Country name Place in the ranking Number of states to which visa-free entry is granted
France 1 194
Germany 2 194
Italy  3 194
Japan 4 194
Singapore 5 194
Spain 6 194
Finland  7 193
South Korea 8 193
Sweden 9 193
Austria 10 192

Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq were among the countries that offered the least influential citizenship documents. With their document, you can visit only 28, 29, and 31 countries, respectively, without additional authorization.

Benefits to obtain second citizenship

More and more wealthy people are seeking to get a second citizenship of a developed, economically prosperous country. An additional identity document provides its new owner with many benefits and advantages. The main among them are:

  • visa-free access to other civilized countries;
  • more freedoms in education and employment;
  • the right to quality, qualified medical care;
  • favorable conditions regarding taxes and business activities.

The high economic level and stable political life are no less important pluses of top countries with strong passport. Such attractive conditions allow their citizens to look forward to the future.

Final Thoughts

Linking your life with the countries offering the strongest passports in the world is a great idea, even with serious running costs. Today, specialists and ordinary participants in investment projects in exchange for citizenship think this way. All those who have participated in such initiatives have already experienced numerous advantages of the obtained document.

For the happy holders of second citizenship, the list of available territories has significantly expanded. They can now visit, avoiding all sorts of prohibitions. They no longer need a visa to enter the EU, the UK, and some other popular tourist countries.

In addition, the second passport opens up numerous other opportunities for enterprising people. An applicant should contact a reliable agency that will help him complete all the necessary procedures to become a full-fledged resident of the best country quickly. Cooperation with professionals will save not only time, but also your own money. Agency employees are familiar with many subtleties, which will allow you to resolve the issue without unnecessary questions. High-quality support is a guarantee of successful results in a short time.

13 Biggest Mistakes Made by Carnival Cruise Passengers [Carnival Tips]

Our goal at Cruise Fever is simple, to help you have the best cruise vacation possible. With that being said, here are the biggest mistakes people make when taking a cruise on Carnival Cruise Line.

Use these Carnival cruise tips wisely and feel free to add your own advice in the comment section below.

Carnival Cruise Line Breeze

Not Purchasing FTTF – What’s FTTF? Faster to the Fun lets you skip lines during your cruise for a small fee.  You receive priority boarding, priority tender tickets, priority disembarkation, a priority line at guest services, and your cabin is ready as soon as you board the ship.

After all, life is too short to wait in lines while on vacation.

Thinking All Ships Are the Same – Carnival Cruise Line has 27 cruise ships in service and each class varies in amenities offered on board.  Just because your last ship had an incredible new restaurant, doesn’t mean that the next ship that you book will have it.  The same is true for water parks and other features found on Carnival’s Fun Ships.

Each class of Carnival cruise ship is unique and only the Excel class have a roller coaster on the top deck.

Not Purchasing Drink Packages –  Drink packages offered on Carnival cruise ships can add to up real savings throughout your cruise.   An extra benefit is not having to worry about how much you are spending since every drink you order is already paid for.

Carnival offers CHEERS! and a package that includes unlimited soda.

Hitting the 15 Drink Limit –  Just because you are allowed up to 15 alcoholic drinks a day with CHEERS!, doesn’t mean you have drink that many.  As many cruisers point out, the break even point is around 5-6 drinks a day.

Not Checking For Price Drops – If you book an Early Saver Rate, you are eligible for price drops up to two days before your cruise.  This can add to up significant savings and onboard credit that you could be leaving on the table.  How to Check For Price Drops on Cruises

Thinking All Inside Cabins Are the Same – Carnival’s cheapest inside staterooms are Category 1A.  While the beds in most cruise ship cabins can be made into a queen size bed, the 1A staterooms have upper and lower bunk beds.  This is great for friends who are cruising, not so much for couples.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest cruise news and deals: Sign Up

Think Port Stops Are Guaranteed –  Carnival does everything in their power to stick to the scheduled itinerary.  However, the cruise line does not control the weather and ports that require tendering (Grand Cayman, Belize, Half Moon Cay etc) can be bypassed due to rough seas and high wind.

Failing to Choose a Check-in Time – A few years ago, Carnival began testing staggered boarding and it has now been rolled out across the country. By not choosing a boarding time or waiting until the last minute to check in, you will likely be one of the last to board the ship and start your vacation.

Waiting to Purchase Shore Excursions – The most popular shore excursions can sell out quickly. If there is one that your heart is set on doing, don’t wait to purchase it.

View Cruise Deals on Carnival Cruise Line

Waiting to Purchase the ‘Behind the Fun’ Tour – Interested in going behind the scenes and seeing parts of the cruise ship that are off limits to passengers? The Behind the Fun tour is extremely limited it sells out quickly so book as soon as you can.

Bypassing Specialty Restaurants – Yes, the main dining room and buffet are included in your cruise fare. However, dining in specialty restaurants like the steakhouse or Bonsai Sushi can greatly enhance your cruise experience.  Especially when you are cruising for a special occasion.

Also, waiting to book specialty restaurants until later in the cruise could cause you to miss out.  Specialty restaurants tend to fill up near the end of the cruise so book early.

Bonsai Carnival
Bonsai on Carnival Celebration

Not Dining in the Steakhouse On the First Night – When you dine in the steakhouse on the first night, you get a free bottle of wine.  And for those who do not drink (like myself), they brought us over a bottle of non-alcoholic.  Kudos to the Carnival staff for that.

Also, if you dine in the steakhouse on the second night of the cruise, you will receive a 50% discount on a premium bottle that is under $100 in value.

Not Booking Your Next Cruise On Board – By not booking your next Carnival cruise while onboard, you’ll lose out on extra perks that can include 50% deposits, $50 in onboard credit, and a two category upgrade.

Look Inside A Cruise Ship Morgue

While nobody wants to think about dying on vacation, it is the unfortunate truth that sometimes it happens. There are millions of cruise passengers every year, so it’s sadly inevitable that a small number will pass away while on their voyage.

And, of course, this isn’t like a land holiday where the body can be taken to a local morgue. Sometimes, passengers will die in the middle of the ocean, far away from any funeral home.

cruise ship at twilight

In those situations, what happens to a dead body on a cruise ship? Let’s take a look…

People die on cruise ships all the time…

When a cruise ship passenger dies, the staff places the body in the onboard morgue until the ship reaches a suitable port to disembark it, where it will be flown home. The cruise line will inform the next of kin if they’re not already sailing with the passenger.

The key point here is a ‘suitable’ port, as it needs to be somewhere that is willing and able to inspect the body, provide a death certificate and then process the task of flying the body back to the passenger’s home country.

A lot of ports aren’t suitable and would refuse to accept a body, so often a passenger who has passed away will remain on the ship for up to a week until the ship returns to a suitable location.

Once an appropriate port is found, the body will usually be disembarked from the ship in the early hours of the morning, one of the first things to happen once the ship has docked. This is to minimise the number of guests that see the body and potentially be upset.

It’s worth noting that while the cruise line will work with the port to arrange for the transfer of the dead body, including repatriation to the passenger’s home country, it won’t pay for it. That responsibility falls on the family of the passenger.

A lot of travel insurance plans will cover repatriation costs, but not all. But this is another example of why insurance is a must on a cruise holiday.

Cruise lines will also often employ dedicated staff to assist the on-board family of someone who has passed away. They are not usually trained counsellors, but they are available for support of administrative matters such as arranging the repatriation of the body and contacting a funeral home.

Some cruise lines will also take this a little bit further, by offering free phone and internet access to those families to help them make arrangements, and escorting them to a local hotel when they disembark.

If the cruise has a religious leader such as a priest on board, they may also be involved to offer support.

All cruise ships have morgues

All cruise ships are required to have morgue facilities where a body can be stored for up to a week. Staff are required to be trained in how to handle a passenger passing away, including the appropriate storage methods for a dead body to ensure it is kept secure.

Cruise ship morgues are located on a lower deck in an area inaccessible to passengers. This is usually next to the medical centre.

Morgues must be separate from any food storage locations for obvious hygiene reasons. But sometimes, food freezers may be nearby, as you can see from the photo below…

Cruise ship morgues have space for several bodies

A typical cruise morgue is able to hold at least three bodies, with an average capacity of three to six.

Larger ships will have a larger morgue to potentially hold multiple passengers or crew members, especially on longer sailings such as Transatlantic cruises or to destinations where repatriation isn’t possible.

There’s an urban legend mentioned on a few cruise websites that if cruise ships are doling out extra-large servings of ice cream, potentially for free, is a sign that the crew are trying to clear out a freezer space to store a body.

That is just a legend, though. Cruise ships have morgues, and body bags, and it would be a very exceptional case where more people passed away than the ship could accommodate. They would have backup plans in place that likely wouldn’t involve using food storage spaces.

Here’s what the morgue looks like on a cruise ship…

A cruise ship morgue is usually a simple room with one or two refrigeration units, with multiple compartments to hold a body. They don’t usually look like morgues you see on TV, with individual units for each body. The priority is simply storage until a suitable port is reached.

In the video below, you can see what the morgue looks like on Carnival Fantasy. This video was made after the ship was taken out of service. It is quite an eerie video, so I advise caution if you choose to watch it.

Understandably, there aren’t many videos of cruise ship morgues available online. They’re hardly something that cruise lines want to show off as part of a behind-the-scenes tour, and it would be unusual for cruise ship workers to film them.

However, this video does provide a quick glimpse at what a cruise ship morgue looks like. It’s a little shaky as a video, but you can see the unit with the slide-out shelves to store bodies.

You won’t be buried at sea

Whether you die on a ship or on land, cruise lines don’t offer a burial at sea. However, many do offer services that allow ashes to be scattered at sea. It varies by cruise line, but some offer dedicated ceremonies for this type of service.

When a passenger dies on a cruise ship, the family can’t request that the body is immediately buried at sea. Cruise ships don’t have the facilities to carry out the formalities of processing a body and providing a death certificate, which lists the cause of death. A body must always be stored until it can be disembarked at a suitable port for this service to be carried out.

But if you have a family member that you’ve already had cremated, and they were a fan of cruising or the sea in general, then it’s worth speaking to cruise lines to arrange a scattering of ashes, if that’s your wish.

Carnival Cruise Lines’ John Heald, a senior cruise director, has been quoted as saying that the trend for burials at sea is a fairly recent one (source), while the cruise line has confirmed that it now averages 200 complimentary ceremonies to scatter ashes every year.

While the service is free, travelling with the cruise line is not, so you would need to book a cruise as normal. You’d also need to make sure that the ashes were brought on board in a biodegradable urn that is completely sealed.

You would then pass the urn to the Guest Services team on board who would carry out the service for you – you don’t just get to pick and choose a location on the ship to do it. You would likely be able to attend, but expect the service to happen at a discreet time and place, away from other guests.

Once the ceremony has been carried out, you would normally receive a signed letter from the captain with the coordinates of where the ceremony took place.

The Bottom Line

Cruise ships are well prepared for any eventually during a voyage, including the untimely passing away of passengers. They have the storage facilities to hold a body safely and respectfully and will support the family of a lost loved one as much as possible.

It’s something you hope to never have to deal with during your cruise holiday, but at least you can have peace of mind that there is help and support available if someone in your party did pass away, so you wouldn’t be left wondering what you were supposed to do.

Top 6 Buzziest Ports In The World To Start Your Next Cruise From

Life at sea is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that everyone should try at some point. The calmness of the ocean is both relaxing and scary since you never know if it’s quiet before the storm or not. Well, if you’ve seen the Titanic but are afraid to go on a cruise, know that many people are choosing to stay at sea for months in some of the most famous voyages.

For instance, the Viking Ocean Cruise takes you from Fort Lauderdale to London through the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific. The trip takes about 138 days and allows you to explore numerous countries and ports from Asia or the Middle East.

While cruises should be the star of the show, we can’t overlook ports and port cities, from Thailand’s Phuket to Greece’s Santorini, one of the most beautiful places in the world to start your cruise.

Got you hooked? Let’s see what are some of the busiest and most dynamic ports in the world.

Port Canaveral in Florida

Port Canaveral is one of the biggest, busiest and best ports in the world, as it has recorded millions of passengers throughout the years. The port has been continuously improved and is considered one of the most innovative in the world. It is the starting point of famous cruises to places like the Bahamas, the Caribbeans and Bermuda.

Since it can get quite crowded at times, it’s best to take some time in advance for your arrival to be on schedule. The closest airport is 45 miles away, Orlando International Airport, from which you can take a taxi or rent a car to arrive on time. Try to plan the trip long before it’s scheduled, especially for corporate travel, because the area is highly touristic. You can check out some tips for finding unsold business class flight tickets.

Nassau Port in The Bahamas

The Nassau Cruise Port is similar to Miami and Everglades in terms of size and importance, especially since it’s located in one of the most popular tourist attractions. It’s also part of some of the most important cruises in the world, such as the Azamara Cruises or the Virgin Voyages.

However, since it’s located on an independent island, Nassau, amenities might not be that plenty, and public transport is limited to a local bus and a taxi.

Wheelchair assistance, restroom facilities and Wi-Fi are available for all visitors, but you can also walk around Nassau’s downtown to try the local dishes, from fried plantains to conch salad. There are also several places to visit, such as the Queen’s Staircase, the Cloisters, and Paradise Island.

Port of Barcelona in Spain

Barcelona’s port is one of the most important places for maritime trade in the country and is divided into three separate areas for logistical considerations. It’s the ninth largest port in Europe and has an impressive number of attractions nearby, such as the Picasso Museum or the Santa Maria Del Mar church.

Montjuïc Hill is a famous spot for those who want to see the port entirely or take the aerial cable car to the Ferry Station. Numerous cruises start from Barcelona, especially to European countries like Italy, Greece and Portugal. However, world cruises are also popular, taking you to destinations like Barbados, Miami or Copenhagen.

Port of Southampton in England

Another lively port is Southampton, where at least two million passengers travel yearly. The port is known for its international boat show held annually, a massive event in Europe where numerous ships are exhibited for visitors to explore.

Naturally, you can get around Europe starting from the port of Southampton, so cruises to Amsterdam, Sweden and Portugal are typical. Still, transatlantic trips are always in demand, as you can go to New York or Miami in about eight days at sea. Sometimes, your destination will be another port in the US, such as Everglades and Canaveral. If you’re interested in the surroundings, make sure to visit the Ocean Village complex, a modern marina complex that has world-class restaurants and great hotels.

Civitavecchia Port in Italy

The port of Civitavecchia is an important point in Mediterranean ports. It directly links the Italian mainland and Sardinian, being second to Barcelona in terms of busyness. It’s got an impressive history and has remained important for maritime transport until now.

Starting your cruise from here is the easiest way to explore Italy in short trips, but you can easily reach Morocco, Tunis and Barcelona from Civitavecchia. In addition to cruises, you can also take some time to explore the surroundings, such as its famous beaches and must-see attractions.

Cozumel Cruise Port in Mexico

The port is part of the Mexican Island Cozumel in the Caribbean Sea, with three terminals that can get you literally anywhere. The Punta Langosta terminal usually handles more extensive cruises, such as the Disney Cruise Line, Silversea and the Viking Ocean Cruises. Some of these trips also start from the International Cruise terminal. Still, if you’re looking for more exciting cruises, Punta Maya is the starting point for the Holland America Line and the Carnival Cruise Line.

The port is surrounded by massive shopping centers and restaurants, which you can stroll around for some fun. For example, the Royal Village Shopping Center offers one of the most luxurious venues for shopping and dining, while the Mayan Plaza has the famous Cozumel Instagrammable spot for tourists.

What’s your next destination?

Cruises around the world are some of the best things to put on your to-do list for the next trip because living at sea for a few days or even weeks is a unique experience. Getting to watch the sea closely while visiting different countries is truly amazing, especially when your starting point is one of the biggest ports in the world. So, we recommended traveling from some of the biggest ports in the world because they immerse you in enthusiastic communities and lively neighborhoods.

Coast Guard Medevacs Pregnant Woman from Disney Cruise Ship [VIDEO]

Pregnant woman medevacs pregant woman on Disney Ship

Video has emerged of a 35-year-old woman being airlifted from the Disney Fantasy after she experienced health complications.

On April 15, 2024, the U.S. Coast Guard received a call from the Disney Fantasy cruise ship, requesting a medevac.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard News, an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter was flown to the cruise ship which was 180 miles northwest of Puerto Rico.

After the rescue team was deployed onto the ship a rescue basket was used to lift the woman onto the helicopter, along with the cruise ship doctor.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest cruise news and deals: Sign Up

“Our crew was able to quickly, safely, and efficiently execute a long-range MEDEVAC for the patient to receive the higher level of care she required,” said Lt. Cmdr. Todd Stephens. “This case demonstrates the value of good crew resource management and the capabilities of our Jayhawk helicopter.”

“We are glad everything came together to help this passenger,” said Ensign Michael Riccio, Coast Guard Sector San Juan operations unit leader for the case. “The competency displayed by the Disney Fantasy crew and the Coast Guard personnel and units involved made all the difference.”

Modern cruise ships do have medical facilities, but they are only useful for rudimentary procedures.  More complicated health issues require transportation to other more capable facilities, as in this case.

These Are The Newest NCL Ships You Can Book Right Now

With 18 ships in the fleet and another eight on order, Norwegian Cruise Line is one of the biggest cruise lines in the world – behind only Carnival and Royal Caribbean in terms of ship count.

NCL cruise ships

And like those cruise lines, the company has helped to reinvent the idea of what cruising can be. Long gone are the days of formal cruising with limited entertainment. Over the years NCL has helped to debut exciting features such as bowling alleys, 4D cinemas and more recently even go-karts at sea!

With every new ship, there is always something to be excited about with NCL, and the ships just keep on coming.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at the newest ships in the NCL fleet – including those that only recently joined the line-up, and some that are yet to make their debut…

The Newest NCL Cruise Ships:

  1. Norwegian Viva
  2. Norwegian Prima
  3. Norwegian Encore

1. Norwegian Viva – 2023

Norwegian Viva

Launched in the summer of 2023, Norwegian Viva is the second Prima-class ship to arrive for Norwegian Cruise Line as part of a rapid expansion of the fleet.

And in true NCL style, she is packing some incredible entertainment options, with the three-storey go-karting track returning from Norwegian Prima along with plenty of other exciting options.

Most thrilling is The Drop – the first free-fall dry slide at sea that travels 10 decks down the side of the ship. Or race a friend in the twin dry slides, The Rush.

The ship has a Game Gallery, where guests can try high-tech mini golf or play a round of pub darts. And then there’s the Galaxy Pavilion, which hosts virtual reality games, golf simulators, flight simulators and a whole lot more.

Everything is high-tech, and everything is super-exciting. I know that guests are going to love just how much fun they can have on this ship – many already are.

The Norwegian Viva sails the Mediterranean in the summer months, before crossing the Atlantic and calling Miami her homeport for winter cruises around the Caribbean.

In terms of size, Norwegian Viva is a similar volume to sister ship Norwegian Prima, but she holds an increased number of passengers – around 3,200, compared to 3,100 on the earlier ship.

2. Norwegian Prima – 2022

Norwegian Prima

Norwegian Prima is the second-most recent addition to the NCL fleet, having been first laid down in 2019 and then launched in 2022.

Often when mainstream cruise lines announce a new ship, they aim for something bigger and better than they’ve had before. With Norwegian Prima, the focus was very much on ‘better’ and less on ‘bigger’.

In terms of volume, the Norwegian Prima was the smallest ship the cruise line had built since 2007’s Norwegian Gem.

And yet that is with purpose – the idea of the Prima-class ships is to provide more open spaces, more room for guests to relax, and a less ‘busy’ feel overall whilst still keeping that exciting and vibrant atmosphere that makes an NCL cruise special.

They’ve achieved that by reducing the guest capacity to just 3,099 but refining and introducing the amazing dining and leisure facilities onboard. There are plenty of excellent speciality dining restaurants to sample (and enough complimentary venues too), while during the day you can enjoy dry slides, various interactive games, a tidal wave waterslide and of course the three-storey go-kart course.

Norwegian Prima is of particular interest to UK cruisers, as during the summer months she offers some itineraries around Northern Europe from Southampton.

She also has departures from Barcelona, Rome and Reykjavik, before crossing the Atlantic to offer sailings from New York, Galveston, Miami and Port Canaveral.

3. Norwegian Encore – 2019

Norwegian Encore

The biggest ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet, Norwegian Encore is the pinnacle of the Breakaway Plus class.

First announced in 2014 at the same time as her sister ship Norwegian Bliss, she was originally intended to be designed for the Chinese market, although the decision was later reversed and she was fitted for a Western market.

Since her maiden voyage in late 2019, Norwegian Encore has demonstrated the very best of the Breakaway and Breakaway-Plus class of ships. She is packed with exciting things to see and do, including her own version of the Galaxy Pavilion and the Encore Speedway.

Evening entertainment is also outstanding, with epic live theatre shows and cool bars, including a replica of the Cavern Club from Liverpool. Norwegian Encore also has the widest selection of bars and restaurants of any of the ships in the NCL fleet, so you always have somewhere new to try.

During the winter months, the Norwegian Encore is based in the Caribbean but then in summer, she crosses the Panama Canal and offers some thrilling Alaska itineraries, with the chance to soak up the view from the expansive decks as you sail past impressive glaciers and wildlife.

4. Norwegian Bliss – 2018

Norwegian Bliss

The Norwegian Bliss was the fifth Breakaway-class ship to launch for the cruise line, and the third in the larger Breakaway Plus subclass.

Announced alongside her sister ship the Norwegian Encore, she is only marginally smaller – around 1,000 gross tonnes less. Despite that, she has a very slightly higher guest capacity of 4,002 – four more than her sister.

The ship was handed over to NCL in April 2018 and took her maiden voyage at the start of June that year. She actually took her name from her earlier sister – the Norwegian Joy was originally intended to be the Bliss, but was renamed when it was decided she was headed to a base in China.

She has a very similar layout to the other ships in the Breakaway Plus subclass, with an incredible range of dining options, evening entertainment venues and daytime activities. She also has fantastic accommodation choices. The Haven is a stunning area on any NCL ship but on the Breakaway Plus class it really is something special, and worthy of the upgrade cost if you have the budget.

In reviews, Norwegian Bliss is the most popular ship in the fleet, just ahead of Norwegian Encore and, surprisingly, the older ship Norwegian Jewel. The newest ship in the fleet, Norwegian Prima, is fourth in the list.

Norwegian Bliss mirrors the typical season of her newer sister Norwegian Encore – during the winter months she sails the Caribbean, and then as summer arrives she traverses the Panama Canal, sets up a base in Seattle and offers breathtaking cruises to Alaska.

More NCL ships arriving soon…

Norwegian Aqua – 2025

Norwegian Aqua

The next ship to launch for Norwegian Cruise Line will be Norwegian Aqua – the first of a new sub-class of ship named Prima Plus.

She’ll share a lot of similarities with Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, but she’ll be bigger, and able to hold just over 3,500 guests.

There’s still a lot to be announced for the ship, but the plan is for more open spaces and an overall more relaxing feel. It won’t be dull, though – we do know that she’ll feature the first-ever combination waterslide roller coaster with the Aqua Slidecoaster. Not just the first one at sea – the first attraction of its kind anywhere in the world.

I’m sure there will be many more exciting announcements to come about the ship as we near her launch date.

Three More Prima Plus Class Ships – 2026 to 2028

Norwegian Cruise Line is not messing around. The cruise line has announced that, as well as the impending launch of Norwegian Aqua, there will be three more Prima Plus-class ships joining the fleet.

This is one of the fastest expansions of a cruise line that I’ve ever seen, with a ship due to launch every year until 2028.

No information has been released on the other Prima-class ships yet, but we do know from interviews with the bigwigs at NCL that they are looking at basing the ships in different locations around the world, so don’t expect them all to move back and forth between Europe and the Caribbean.

3. Four New Ships (Unnamed Class) – 2030 to 2036

As if the new Prima Plus ships weren’t enough, it was announced in April 2024 that another four ships would be joining the fleet from 2030, part of a brand new class that would be the biggest yet for NCL.

They’re expected to host 5,000 passengers each and have a gross tonnage of around 200,000, which would put them some way ahead of the largest ships currently sailing in the fleet.

With all these new ships, NCL will definitely strengthen its position as one of the leading cruise lines in the world.

NEW DEALS JUST RELEASED!

Don’t miss the latest NCL offers…

It’s interesting to note that Norwegian has stepped away from the supersize of the Breakaway Plus ships with their next class. Not that they’ve been ditched at all – the Norwegian Encore remains, for now, one of the flagships of the fleet and is an amazing cruise ship, as are her sisters.

Anyone booking a cruise on those ships could hardly complain of boredom during their voyage, but then the Prima-class ships take the innovations even further and also add in the space for guests to relax and not feel overcrowded.

The early success of Norwegian Prima shows just how well they have done, and no doubt the recently-launched and newest Norwegian ship Norwegian Viva, and the Prima Plus Class to follow, will be just as exciting.

And then you have the new class to follow from 2030, which will put the NCL fleet at 27 ships – could it potentially become the biggest fleet of cruise ships in the world?
