Royal Caribbean has updated its list of prohibited items, now banning multi-plug outlets.
Multi-plug outlets are now classified as “Flammable Items,” similar to extension cords and power strips, due to their potential to overheat and cause fires, particularly in confined cabin spaces.
This update may pose challenges for travellers, especially on older ships where power outlets are limited. It could be difficult to charge all your devices simultaneously.
To circumvent this, passengers should consider bringing USB charging hubs or portable chargers to keep their devices powered without violating the rules.
Many other cruise lines do permit extension cords, provided they aren’t surge-protected – despite surge-protected extensions being safer to use at home, they’re actually more dangerous on a cruise ship due to the electrical system design.
Before embarking on a cruise, it’s crucial to review the list of prohibited items. This way, you won’t have any items confiscated at the terminal, allowing you to begin your holiday without any hitches.
If you plan on bringing multiple electrical devices on a Royal Caribbean cruise, you might need to work out the best charging strategy – making sure your must-haves for the day are charged overnight using the limited outlets available.
