Royal Caribbean Unveils Summer 2027 European Cruise Line-Up With Six Ships and New Santorini Experience

Royal Caribbean International has announced its summer 2027 Europe season, featuring six ships sailing from ports across the continent – including an Icon-class vessel and several new itineraries.

Mariner of the Seas

Highlights include Mariner of the Seas’ first-ever deployment from Southampton, new ports such as Tangier, Morocco, and the debut of the Royal Beach Club Santorini, a new exclusive shoreside experience for select Mediterranean itineraries.

The season will also mark the first time guests can combine sightseeing across Santorini’s famous whitewashed villages and blue-domed churches with time at the Royal Beach Club Santorini, part of Royal Caribbean Group’s growing collection of land-based destinations.

Sales opened early to Crown & Anchor Society members on 29th October, and then opened to the general public on 30th October 2025.

New Shoreside Experiences and European Expansion

The Santorini beach club is part of the company’s “Ultimate Santorini Day,” blending guided tours of the island’s landmarks with a luxury beach retreat.

Royal Beach Club Santorini

Details, including the exact location and entry costs, have not yet been disclosed, but the concept follows the model of Royal Beach Club Paradise Island, opening in The Bahamas in December 2025.

Three ships – Rhapsody of the Seas, Brilliance of the Seas, and Odyssey of the Seas – will visit the new Santorini club.

Royal Caribbean’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Group, confirmed earlier this month that the Santorini beach club will be open to guests sailing with both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises.

Where Each Ship Will Sail in Summer 2027

Legend of the Seas (Icon Class)

Legend of the Seas

The 5,610-guest Legend of the Seas, entering service in July 2026, will spend her second summer in the Mediterranean, sailing Western Mediterranean itineraries from both Barcelona and Rome.

Rhapsody of the Seas (Vision Class)

The Rhapsody of the Seas cruising the ocean

Carrying 2,040 passengers, Rhapsody of the Seas will operate from Athens, sailing 7-night Eastern Mediterranean cruises visiting Greece, Turkey, and Egypt – including calls to Royal Beach Club Santorini.

Mariner of the Seas (Voyager Class)

Mariner of the Seas slides

Making her Southampton debut, the 4,000-guest Mariner of the Seas will offer a variety of cruises ranging from two-night short getaways to nine-night voyages. Destinations include Porto, Seville, and the Norwegian fjords, as well as stops in Denmark.

Explorer of the Seas (Voyager Class)

The Explorer of the Seas fun filled deck shown on a bird's eye view

Based in Barcelona, Rome, Ravenna, and Athens, Explorer of the Seas will offer Eastern and Western Mediterranean itineraries, visiting Italy, France, Spain, and the Adriatic ports of Croatia, Montenegro, and Greece.

Odyssey of the Seas (Quantum Class)

Odyssey of the Seas

Operating from Rome, the 4,284-guest Odyssey of the Seas will sail 7-night Greek Island cruises, with calls in Mykonos and Santorini, where guests can experience the new Royal Beach Club.

Brilliance of the Seas (Radiance Class)

Brilliance of the Seas pool deck

The 2,145-guest Brilliance of the Seas will homeport in Ravenna, sailing 7-night Greek Island and Croatia cruises, also featuring the Santorini beach club as a key highlight.

Reduced European Capacity

While the line-up of ships coming to Europe has been given the typical fanfare of a new season launch, it is worth noting that 2027 actually sees a reduction in capacity for Europe, in terms of ship size at least, when compared with 2026.

Brilliance, Explorer, Legend and Odyssey will all be returning to Europe in 2027 after a 2026 season sailing the continent, but two of the ships are changes. Harmony of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas are sailing in Europe in 2026, replaced by Rhapsody of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas.

That’s a drop in passenger capacity of around 5,500 berths – mainly due to the departing Harmony of the Seas, an Oasis-class ship that can host over 6,700 guests at maximum capacity.

However, the overall 2027 capacity will likely be similar, as there are more itineraries available – 51 cruises are offered for 2026, with 57 offered for 2027.

Expanding the Royal Beach Club Portfolio

The Santorini development is part of Royal Caribbean Group’s wider plan to grow its land-based experiences from two to eight destinations by 2028, following the model of Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Upcoming projects include:

  • Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (The Bahamas) – Opening December 2025
  • Royal Beach Club Cozumel (Mexico) – 2026
  • Perfect Day Mexico – 2027
  • Royal Beach Club Lelepa (Vanuatu) – 2028

With the addition of Santorini, Royal Caribbean is expanding its presence in Europe while offering guests new ways to combine authentic local exploration with premium resort-style relaxation.

Two Cruise Ships Now Sailing from JAXPORT

Cruise passengers have been sailing out of JAXPORT since 2003 when the terminal first opened.  For much of the time since just one Carnival cruise ship has offered cruises to Florida residence.

But today, a second cruise ship has arrived from Boston, giving nearby residents some extra options.  After all, according to the port, more than 98 million people live withing driving distance to Jacksonville.

Norwegian Gem cruise ship

Norwegian Gem has arrived in Jacksonville, joining Carnival Elation in offering 4-, 5-, 6-, and even 12-night itineraries to The Bahamas and Caribbean.

New Itineraries from Jacksonville Port

Norwegian Gem will homeport seasonally in Jacksonville from November 2025 through April, offering a variety of cruise durations and destinations.

Short 3- to 5-day cruises to the Bahamas include stops at Great Stirrup Cay (Norwegian’s private island), Freeport, and Nassau.

For those wanting something a little bit longer, Norwegian Gem sails 11- to 12-day Eastern Caribbean cruises visiting ports like Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), St. Thomas and St. John’s, Antigua, St. Kitts, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Jacksonville cruise ship
Jacksonville cruise terminal

About the Ship

Norwegian Gem was built in 2007 as the fourth and final ship of Norwegian Cruise Line’s Jewel-class. It was most recently overhauled in 2022 to update its facilities.

The ship has a gross tonnage of 93,530 and can carry 2,394 passengers at double occupancy.   Carnival Elation, which also sails out of Jacksonville, has a double capacity of 2,190, so the addition of the NCL ship will more than double the ports capacity.

What This Means for Jacksonville

With two major cruise ships now homeported, Jacksonville gives cruisers more flexibility in booking trips and adds longer itineraries. This expansion supports the local economy too, and positions Jacksonville as a growing cruise hub in the Southeast.

It was back in February of 2024 that the Jacksonville Port Authority approved the addition of the cruise ship to the port, and now local residents can start taking advantage of the extra option.

JaxPort CEO, Eric Green, welcomed Norwegian Cruise Line to the port and mentioned the additional jobs the move would bring.

“Expanding our popular cruise program also provides passengers throughout the Southeast U.S. and beyond with even more reasons to choose Jacksonville for their next vacation,” Green stated.

What Cruise Lines Are Doing to Help Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

Over 1.4 million cruise passengers visit Jamaica every year.  After the destruction caused by Hurricane Melissa on October 28, multiple cruise lines have pledged their support to help rebuild and assist the popular Caribbean destination.

Harmony of the Seas Royal Caribbean in Falmouth Jamaica

When Hurricane Melissa made landfall in the Caribbean this week, it was a Category 5 storm, making it the strongest hurricane ever to strike Jamaica. The catastrophic winds and floods caused massive destruction.

In the worst-hit areas, up to 90% of homes were damaged, and over 70% of the island lost electricity at one point.

Leading up to the storm making landfall in Jamaica, all the major cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Carnival Cruise Line, had to change itineraries to steer clear of the storm.

Now, the cruise industry is quickly stepping up to help Jamaica recover.

Carnival Corporation Pledges $1 Million

One of the fastest and biggest responses came from Carnival Corporation, the parent company of lines like Carnival Cruise Line and Holland America Line.

Carnival Corporation, along with the Arison Family Foundation and the Miami Heat, announced a large $1 million donation.

This money is going to Direct Relief, a humanitarian group that sends medical supplies and health aid to areas in need.

Holland America Line, a Carnival company, is also asking its guests to help by dedicating its onboard 5K walks, called “On Deck for a Cause,” to the Jamaica fund. This allows passengers to directly support the recovery.

Carnival’s CEO, Josh Weinstein stated, “Our connection to Jamaica runs deep, and we need to support its communities now more than ever.”

Royal Caribbean Pledges $1 Million and Crew Member Support

Royal Caribbean Group, which includes brands like Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises, has also pledged more than $1 million to support relief and recovery efforts in Jamaica.  The funds are being channeled through Global Empowerment Mission, which is an organization with a Caribbean recovery team based in Kingston, Jamaica.

Royal Caribbean is also helping to deliver necessary supplies and aid during the recovery process.  Things like bottled water, canned goods, and non-perishable foods will be coming to the island, and many Royal Caribbean ships will be bringing the aid directly.

In addition to all this, Royal Caribbean is also helping its crew members that are from the island, helping to reconnect crew members with family and loved ones.  The cruise company has stated that over 1,200 of their crew members are from Jamaica.

Other Cruise Lines

It’s safe to say that other cruise lines will most likely be announcing some kind of support and aid for the region as well in the days ahead.  This article will be updated as those details become available and are made public.

The 5 Carnival Cruises That Changed Course Due to Hurricane Melissa

Carnival Cruise Line made changes to itineraries on five of their cruise ships this week due to Hurricane Melissa.

Carnival Celebration

Carnival’s Fleet Operations Center in Miami, Florida has been monitoring the storm and forecasts. To keep their guests, crew, and ships safe, they altered five itineraries that are sailing to the Caribbean.

What changes did Carnival Cruise Line make?

Carnival Celebration did not stop in Grand Turk or Amber Cove, but they did add a stop in Cozumel, Mexico to help make up for it.

Carnival Dream’s visit to Montego Bay, Jamaica was canceled.

Carnival Liberty’s stops to Montego Bay yesterday and Grand Cayman today were canceled. They have been replaced with stops to Mahogany Bay and Belize.

Carnival Sunrise had their visit to Grand Turk today canceled and replaced with a stop in Nassau.

Carnival Vista will also visit Nassau today instead of a stop at Amber Cove.

Hurricane Melissa

Carnival Cruise Line posted the following message in regards to changes that they made this week.

“Safety is our priority, and we continue to track conditions carefully, factoring in guidance from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Coast Guard, and local port authorities to provide timely updates.

“Guests on upcoming sailings are encouraged to opt-in for sailing alerts via Cruise Manager on Carnival.com and monitor their emails for potential updates from Carnival.”

Family Demands Answers After 80-Year-Old Left Behind by Cruise Ship and Found Dead on Remote Island

An Australian family is demanding answers after 80-year-old Suzanne Rees was found dead on Lizard Island, part of the Great Barrier Reef, after being left behind by her cruise ship.

Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef

The tragedy occurred on Saturday, 25th October, when Ms Rees, from New South Wales, joined fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer on a guided hike to Cook’s Look, the island’s highest peak.

The vessel, which was on the first leg of a 60-day circumnavigation of Australia, departed the island at sunset before realising several hours later that one of its guests was missing.

When the ship returned, a large-scale search was launched involving the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), local police, and helicopters using spotlights to sweep the island through the night. Her body was discovered the following morning.

Queensland Police said a report into the “sudden and non-suspicious death” would be prepared for the coroner.

Daughter Accuses Operator of “Failure of Care and Common Sense”

Speaking publicly for the first time, Ms Rees’s daughter Katherine Rees said she was “shocked and saddened” that the Coral Adventurer had left “without my mum”, whom she described as healthy, active, a keen gardener and bushwalker.

“From the little we have been told, it seems that there was a failure of care and common sense,” she said.

She added that police had told the family it was a hot day when her mother began to feel unwell on the climb.

“She was asked to head down, unescorted. Then the ship left, apparently without doing a passenger count. At some stage in that sequence, or shortly after, Mum died, alone,” Ms Rees said.

She now hopes a coronial inquiry will “find out what the company should have done that might have saved Mum’s life”.

Search Effort and Investigation

A spokesperson for AMSA confirmed it was first alerted to the missing woman around 9 pm on Saturday by the ship’s captain. Search crews returned to the island but called off operations in the early hours before resuming at first light on Sunday, when Ms Rees’s body was found.

Coral Adventurer

Witness Traci Ayris, who was sailing nearby, told the ABC that she saw search helicopters circling the island during the night.

“We knew she was dead because they called everyone back from the search immediately,” she said. “And no-one went to the spot that the chopper was hovering over until later that day when the police arrived.”

Ms Ayris described the mood among those nearby as “very sad in this paradise to have this tragedy occur. It should have been a happy time for that lovely lady.”

AMSA said it takes the safety of passengers and crew on commercial vessels “very seriously” and is working with Queensland Police and other agencies to investigate.

The Coral Adventurer’s operator, Coral Expeditions, confirmed that staff had contacted the family and were offering support.

“While investigations into the incident are continuing, we are deeply sorry that this has occurred and are offering our full support to the woman’s family,” said Mark Fifield, the company’s chief executive. “We are working closely with Queensland Police and other authorities to support their investigation.”

Questions Over Cruise Procedures

The Coral Adventurer carries up to 120 passengers with 46 crew and operates small-boat tenders to transport guests to remote shore excursions.

The ship has since continued its voyage to Darwin, though an investigation will take place once it docks.

Every cruise I have sailed on has systems in place to help track guests who have gone ashore, to make sure nothing like this happens.

If someone doesn’t return to the ship, the ship may leave if it assumes they have gone exploring on their own, or via a third party tour, and not made it back to the ship.

But they would definitely make contact with the missing guest, or alert the authorities if they noticed an elderly guest hadn’t returned and was likely alone.

As the investigation continues, Ms Rees’s family says they hope her death will prompt a review of how expedition cruise operators monitor guests ashore.

Woman Stranded By Cruise Ship Dies On Faraway Tropical Island

An elderly woman, aged 80, lost her life on a secluded island after being abandoned by a luxury cruise ship during its lavish journey around Australia, prompting an inquiry.

The individual, whose identity remains undisclosed, was first reported missing to officials on Saturday evening, following a search that confirmed she was not aboard the Coral Adventurer cruise ship, according to BBC News.

Earlier that day, the ship docked at Lizard Island, a vacation spot featuring a nature reserve located approximately 20 miles from the Queensland coastline. Authorities stated that the woman was hiking on Cook’s Look peak with fellow passengers, but she eventually left the group to rest. Ultimately, she “failed to board” the vessel, and the cruise departed promptly at sunset as planned, reported the Australian Broadcasting Company.

Queensland Police confirmed that the woman’s remains were discovered early Sunday morning during a follow-up search of the island. They characterized her death as “sudden and non-suspicious,” yet noted that an investigation into the incident is still underway.

No official explanation has been released, but news.com.au suggested that she may have tumbled down a cliff on the island. It remains unclear why the crew took several hours to notice the woman’s absence.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority stated that its investigation will encompass “the factors surrounding why the passenger may not have been accounted for” during the boarding procedure.

“The Coral team has been in contact with the woman’s family, and we will continue to provide assistance to them throughout this challenging time,” said CEO Mark Fifield of Coral Expeditions, according to news.com.au. “We are collaborating closely with Queensland Police and other agencies to aid their investigation.”

According to records cited by CNN, the Coral Adventurer, which accommodates 120 passengers and 46 crew members, departed Cairns port just a day earlier, on October 24.
