Royal Caribbean to Give Away Electric SUV to Lucky Cruiser in Singapore

Royal Caribbean has announced a new giveaway campaign in Singapore in a first-of-its-kind partnership with electric vehicle company BYD Auto.   BYD, which adopted the slogan “Build Your Dreams”, is the largest electric vehicle maker in China.

The company is going to make someone’s dreams come true with a car giveaway. One lucky cruise guest with Royal Caribbean will win an all-electric BYD Sealion 7 SUV.

Ovation of the Seas offers sailings out of Singapore starting in October of 2025 and well into 2026. Pictured with BYD Sealion 7 SUV pictured top left (Credit BYD)

The promotion, which is open only to residents of Singapore, runs from August 1 to October 1, 2025.   One person per stateroom can enter the sweepstakes and the form is currently live on Royal Caribbean’s website.

A New Partnership

BYD’s reach in the electric vehicle market has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last few years.  The same can be said of Royal Caribbean in the cruise industry.

To kick off this new partnership, a special event was held at BYD’s flagship showroom in Singapore, where executives from both companies spoke about the shared spirit of innovation that led to the collaboration.

According to Seatrade Cruise News, Chad Grospe, Royal Caribbean’s Vice President of APAC, said that the partnership was a natural fit.

“When we thought about putting this partnership together, we thought about innovation. We thought about luxury, and we immediately thought about BYD. So we wanted to bring something unique from the world’s largest cruise line to the world’s largest EV car manufacturer,” Grospe

The campaign is part of a broader trend in the cruise industry to become more eco-friendly, a common point of focus during the last Seatrade Cruise Global event.

How to Participate

To enter the contest, Singapore residents must book a Royal Caribbean cruise during the campaign period. The entry process is straightforward:

  1. Book a Cruise: Make a Royal Caribbean cruise booking between August 1 and October 1, 2025.
  2. Full Payment: The booking must be paid in full to qualify.
  3. Submit Entry Form: Participants must complete and submit a digital entry form to be entered into the drawing.

Every booking made counts as one entry. According to the contest rules, only one person per stateroom/bookingID is permitted to enter the sweepstakes. The winner of the Grand Prize will be announced in October 2025.

Singapore has a growing cruise population that has seen an uptrend over recent years.

According to data from the Singapore Tourism Board, 2 million cruise passengers sailed out of Singapore in 2023, marking a new record for the city-state. This is an increase from the 1.8 million passengers who sailed in 2019, which was the previous record year before the pandemic.

Royal Caribbean offers more cruises out of Singapore than any other cruise line with 76 sailings currently available to book out of the local port.

Labadee-Haiti.jpg

Royal Caribbean Cancels Labadee Port Visits Through To November Over Safety Concerns

Guests booked on upcoming Royal Caribbean cruises will no longer be visiting the line’s private destination in Labadee, Haiti, as the company has extended its cancellation of all calls through 31st October 2025.

Aerial view of Labadee, Haiti

The decision comes amid ongoing gang violence and civil unrest in Haiti, with Royal Caribbean citing guest and crew safety as the top priority.

“We have been monitoring the evolving situation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and out of an abundance of caution, we’re cancelling our visits to Labadee through October 31st,”

Royal Caribbean statement

Though no incidents have occurred directly in Labadee, the move reflects broader concerns about national instability and the limitations of emergency services throughout the country.

23 Sailings Affected Across Five Ships

The cancellations apply to five Royal Caribbean ships and impact 23 sailings between August and October 2025. These include:

Adventure of the Seas

  • August 16, 30
  • September 13, 27
  • October 11, 25

Freedom of the Seas

  • August 22, 28
  • September 11, 25
  • October 4, 9, 18, 23

Icon of the Seas

Oasis of the Seas

  • August 17
  • September 7, 14
  • October 5, 12, 26

Radiance of the Seas

These cruises, mostly 4- to 7-night Caribbean itineraries, will see Labadee either replaced with alternate destinations or swapped for a day at sea depending on the sailing’s route, port availability, and ship logistics.

Labadee, Haiti

What Replaces Labadee?

While itinerary changes vary by sailing, Royal Caribbean is shifting port calls to destinations such as:

  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Grand Turk
  • Costa Maya, Mexico
  • Grand Cayman

In some cases, the days of port visits may also be adjusted to accommodate travel distances and berth slots.

Guests who pre-booked shore excursions in Labadee will receive automatic refunds. Similarly, tours in other ports will be rescheduled as needed, and new excursion options for replacement ports will be available online and onboard.

Future of Labadee Sailings Remains Uncertain

Royal Caribbean has not yet made a final decision on November 2025 and beyond, but future Labadee calls are still listed on upcoming itineraries.

The cruise line will continue to evaluate the situation in Haiti, and more cancellations could occur if conditions do not improve.

This isn’t the first time the cruise line has had to pause visits to Labadee. Earlier in May 2025, calls were suspended through the summer months due to similar safety concerns.

The US State Department currently maintains a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for Haiti, citing kidnapping, violent crime, civil unrest, and limited access to emergency services.

Safety First – Despite the Disappointment

Labadee has long been a popular stop for Royal Caribbean guests, offering exclusive beach access, water sports, zip-lining, and local cultural experiences.

However, guest and crew safety remains the top priority, and Royal Caribbean’s proactive approach ensures voyages continue smoothly and securely.

The cruise line has expressed its commitment to resuming operations in Labadee when safe to do so, but until the region stabilises, passengers can expect adjusted itineraries and updated alternatives.

Activists Block Celebrity Eclipse from Docking in Amsterdam, Disrupting Cruise Operations

Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Eclipse was met with disruption at the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam on 27th July 2025, as environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion staged a dawn blockade, preventing the vessel from docking on schedule and delaying thousands of passengers from disembarking.

Celebrity Eclipse Extinction Rebellion Protests
Credit: Extinction Rebellion NL

The protest marked a fresh escalation in tensions between the cruise industry and environmental campaigners, as more than 30 activists in small boats and inflatables created a human and physical barrier across the harbour – targeting what they describe as “floating environmental disasters.”

“We protest with this blockade against the harmful influence of cruise ships on humans, nature and the climate,”

Extinction Rebellion statement on social media

Pre-Dawn Blockade Delays Arrival

Activists began assembling around 4:30 am local time, anticipating the ship’s scheduled arrival closer to 6 am.

The Solstice-class Celebrity Eclipse, which carries 2,850 passengers and 1,200 crew, was concluding an 11-night sailing to Iceland and Ireland.

As the ship approached, the protestors – many in kayaks, inflatable animals, and canoes – formed a blockade near the bow of the ship in a high-risk manoeuvre that drew concern for safety, particularly given the vessel’s massive size and reduced manoeuvrability in port.

A two-hour stand-off ensued until Dutch law enforcement intervened, removing the blockade and making five arrests for assault, obstruction, and failing to identify themselves.

Celebrity Eclipse was eventually cleared to dock and later departed on schedule around 5 pm for her next itinerary – a 7-night Norwegian Fjords cruise.

Safety, Disruption, and Escalating Tensions

Extinction Rebellion NL stated its goal is the complete elimination of cruise tourism from Amsterdam and Dutch waters.

The group has staged similar demonstrations in Spain, France, and the UK, with past actions forcing delayed arrivals and even cancelled port calls for major cruise lines.

Extinction Rebellion protestors block Celebrity Eclipse
Credit: Extinction Rebellion NL

The group claims that cruise ships contribute significantly to marine pollution and carbon emissions, and argue that even newer ships – despite sustainable upgrades – are still unsustainable forms of tourism.

“Cruise ships are floating environmental disasters. They should not be allowed in Dutch waters,

“We will continue with actions like this until this harmful tourist industry is banned.”

Extinction Rebellion statement.

The protestors alleged that police boats collided with their inflatable vessels during the removal process, although no injuries have been reported.

Industry Efforts and Passenger Impact

While protestors are unwavering in their calls for a cruise ban, the cruise industry continues to invest heavily in sustainability efforts, including:

  • Equipping new ships with shore power capabilities
  • Introducing LNG-fuelled vessels
  • Committing to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, or sooner

Celebrity Cruises, like many others, has positioned itself as part of this greener shift – though this hasn’t shielded the brand from activist backlash.

In fact, Royal Caribbean Group brands, including Celebrity Cruises, Regent Seven Seas, and Silversea, have all been previously impacted by similar protests.

The fallout from such demonstrations can be widespread:

  • Passengers may miss flights, shore tours, or other pre-arranged transport
  • Tour operators ashore may lose revenue if schedules collapse
  • Cruise lines may face financial losses due to refunded excursions or compensation
  • Safety risks for both activists and ship operations increase

A Growing Challenge in European Ports

Amsterdam welcomed over 1.1 million cruise passengers in 2024, but with public pressure mounting and climate activism growing louder, the future of cruise tourism in the city remains in question.

While Seaports of Amsterdam and cruise lines continue to highlight eco-investments, activist groups are determined to push for stricter regulation or an outright ban.

Celebrity Eclipse’s temporary delay serves as a reminder that the debate over cruise tourism’s environmental footprint is intensifying, and with more protests anticipated, cruise operators may need to further adapt – both operationally and diplomatically – in European waters.

Viking’s first ocean cruise ship, Viking Star, debuted in 2015. 10 years later, they have 12 ships in service with another, Viking Mira, scheduled to debut in 2026.

The ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The float marks a significant construction milestone as the vessel is floated out of dry dock for the first time and moves to the final stage of construction.

Viking Mira will spend the next few months at an outfitting dock where the interior of the ship will be built out.

The 54,300 gross ton ship will carry a maximum of 998 guests in 449 staterooms.

Viking Mira will debut in the spring of 2025 offering cruises in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

Torstein Hagen, Chairman and CEO of Viking, said the following about this new ship:

“In our view, together with Fincantieri we have created the world’s most elegant fleet of small ocean ships—and the float out of the Viking Mira marks yet another important milestone as we continue to grow our fleet.

“As we prepare to welcome her in 2026, we are proud to offer even more opportunities for curious travelers to explore the world in Viking comfort.”

Viking has another seven ocean ships on order after Viking Mira.  Viking Libra will debut in late 2026 with Viking Astrea in the summer of 2027. The cruise line has another five unnamed ships scheduled to enter service by 2030.

Itinerary Changes Continue After Engine Repairs

Despite returning to service after emergency repairs in Freeport, Bahamas, Celebrity Beyond is still not sailing at full speed – and the effects are rippling through its upcoming cruise schedule.

Celebrity Beyond

Multiple sailings through October 2025 have already been adjusted, as Celebrity Cruises informs guests of altered port times and route changes due to the ship’s “reduced sailing speed.”

Delays Persist After Repairs

Celebrity Beyond first experienced a technical issue affecting its propulsion system during its 13th July sailing, which delayed its return to Miami.

As a result, the 20th July departure was cancelled entirely just hours before it was due to begin, and the ship was taken for emergency repair work in Freeport, Bahamas.

She returned to service on 27th July, but sailed her Eastern Caribbean itinerary at lowered speed – something initially assumed to be part of a cautious post-repair restart.

That now appears to be a longer-term operational adjustment.

According to notification emails sent to guests, the line confirmed:

“Due to a reduced sailing speed, we’ve made a few adjustments to ensure our voyage remains smooth, comfortable, and above all, safe.”

Confirmed Sailings Affected So Far

So far there are confirmed itinerary changes on at least eight sailings, all 7-night voyages departing from Miami:

  • August 3, 24, 31
  • September 14, 28
  • October 5, 12, 19

More affected dates may emerge, and guests booked on future cruises are advised to monitor communications from Celebrity Cruises.

Adjustments vary depending on the sailing’s Eastern or Western Caribbean route, but common changes include earlier departures, altered port times, and port swaps.

Sample Itinerary Change: August 24 Sailing

One example is the 24th August Western Caribbean sailing, originally visiting Bimini, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. The revised itinerary now includes:

  • Sunday 24th August – Depart Miami
  • Monday 25th August – Bimini, 7 am to 4 pm (previously 8 am to 5 pm)
  • Wednesday 27th August – Falmouth, Jamaica (replacing Cozumel)
  • Thursday 28th August – George Town, Grand Cayman, 7 am to 4 pm
  • Friday 29th August – Cozumel, 11 am to 7:30 pm (replacing Falmouth)
  • Other days – Sea days remain unchanged

Celebrity Cruises is adjusting shore excursions accordingly, and the total number of port visits is largely being preserved.

Should Guests Be Concerned?

Although the engine repairs were completed in late July, the ship is still operating at reduced speed, likely as a precaution to prevent further strain on the propulsion systems.

There are no reported issues with safety systems, hotel operations, dining, or entertainment onboard.

The ship remains fully seaworthy, and there is no indication that guests’ onboard experience will be affected beyond itinerary timing.

However, a full return to maximum cruising speed may not be possible until a future dry dock.

Currently, Celebrity Beyond is scheduled for dry dock maintenance in November 2026, though an earlier session may be added if necessary.

The Bigger Picture

Celebrity Beyond, the third and largest of Celebrity’s Edge-class ships, debuted in 2022 and is among the newest and most advanced vessels in the fleet.

At 141,420 gross tons, she typically sails 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami, with stops in destinations like St. Thomas, Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and the Bahamas.

While reduced sailing speed may be a temporary technical limitation, Celebrity Cruises has taken steps to communicate transparently and preserve the overall experience for booked guests.

For now, a bit more patience – and perhaps a slightly longer journey between ports – will be required for those sailing aboard this modern luxury ship.

SH Minerva is Back in the Swan Hellenic Fleet! – CruiseMiss.com

SH Minerva is Back in the Swan Hellenic Fleet!

SH Minerva is now back in the Swan Hellenic fleet. Following routine maintenance and preparations to Swan Hellenic’s usual high standards, she will set sail in November to join her sister ships SH Vega and SH Diana in Ushuaia, where she will begin the 2025–2026 Antarctic winter season.

Then, in March 2026, she will launch Swan Hellenic’s first ever Asia-Pacific Season, taking its award-winning cultural expedition cruises to new horizons that expand its adventurous guests’ discovery opportunities worldwide.

The new in-depth explorations of the Asia-Pacific region include the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Raja Ampat, Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan, offering unforgettable experiences that range from primitive art, ancient rituals and anthropology to historical WWII sites, wildlife, snorkeling and watersports adventures.

“We’re delighted to welcome back our flagship SH Minerva,” says Swan Hellenic CEO Andrea Zito “A symbol of Swan Hellenic’s rebirth, her inaugural Asia-Pacific Season will take us to fly our flag across the globe, reaching every ocean and continent. It’s a moment of immense pride for us.”

The cutting-edge expedition ship SH Minerva was built in Helsinki Shipyard OY at the end of 2021 and chartered to Swan Hellenic by the Irish owner, STLC Europe Nine Leasing Ltd.

The parent company of STLC Europe Nine Leasing Ltd, GTLK Europe DAC, was sanctioned by the EU, US and UK back in April-August 2022 due to the designation of the giant Russian leasing company PAO GTLK, which was a parent company of GTLK Europe DAC. SH Minerva has consequently been idle at Fray Bentos, Uruguay, since April 2022. In May 2023, GTLK Europe DAC went into liquidation. Joint Liquidators were appointed by the High Court of Ireland and PAO GTLK subsequently lost control of GTLK Europe DAC and all its subsidiaries, including STLC Europe Nine Leasing Ltd. The Joint Liquidators who now have control of GTLK Europe DAC and its subsidiaries obtained compliance of the sale of GTLK Europe DAC’s assets (including SH Minerva) with all the applicable sanctions.

After lengthy negotiations with the Joint Liquidators, Swan Hellenic finally reacquired SH Minerva from STLC Europe Nine Leasing Ltd in accordance with all applicable sanctions on 25 July 2025 using shareholders’ funds.

SH Minerva’s return marks an exciting new chapter for Swan Hellenic, with a three-ship fleet that takes its guests to live uniquely immersive discovery experiences in the heart of remote destinations all around the world, cruising in refined elegance to “See what others don’t”.
