Norwegian Cruise Line ship in Mexico

Norwegian’s Military Appreciation Program offers a 10% discount on all of the cruise line’s sailings. Beginning today, it has been expanded to include the Canadian armed forces.

It includes active Canadian service members, veterans and their dependents from the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and Canadian Coast Guard.

Norwegian first launched their Military Appreciation Program in 2022 for active U.S. service members, veterans and retired military and their spouses.

Services members are validated through ID.me, a secure digital identity network that allows active and retired U.S. military members and Canadian armed forces to verify their identity once.

In the two years since NCL launched the program, more than 150,000 members of the military have booked a cruise with Norwegian.

David J. Herrera, who served in the U.S. Army National Guard and is the President of Norwegian Cruise Line, gave the following statement:

“The NCL family is committed to supporting the military community, and it is an honor to expand the benefits of our Military Appreciation Program to our allies in Canada. It is a privilege to welcome men and women who have bravely served their countries, along with their families, on board our ships.”

P&O Cruises Announces Shirt Sleeve Sponsorship Deal With Southampton Football Club

P&O Cruises has partnered with Premier League football club Southampton FC to become the new official shirt sleeve sponsor, in a multi-year deal.

P&O Cruises and Southampton Football Club

This is the first time P&O Cruises has sponsored a sports team, and the partnership will feature benefits for both fans of the cruise line and the club.

These benefits will include special cruise offers, match tickets, coaching onboard ships, and meet-and-greet events.

The logo will first appear on the Southampton FC kit for the club’s home friendly against Lazio on 7th August, and then it will feature on the kit as the team travel to Newcastle United for the opening fixture of their Premier League campaign.

The logo will be featured on the men’s, women’s and academy kits and any fans who’ve already bought a replica kit can take it to the stadium store to have the branding applied to the shirt free of charge.

“P&O Cruises is Britain’s favourite cruise line, with a long history sailing from the port of Southampton. Southampton Football Club is one of the oldest and most forward-thinking clubs in English football, with a passionate and dedicated following of supporters in the city and beyond. It is a natural partnership for both of us.

“With the team promoted to the Premier League there has never been a better time to showcase our brand to the nation but whatever the results we will be supporting the teams wholeheartedly throughout the seasons.”

Paul Ludlow, Carnival UK & P&O Cruises President

The cruise line obviously has very strong ties to the city already, with all ex-UK cruises departing from Southampton.

While it’s the first sports sponsorship for P&O Cruises, it’s not the first time a cruise line has got involved with football.

MSC Cruises has a partnership with Chelsea FC, while Royal Caribbean is the sponsor of Wolverhampton Wanders’ training kit, and features on advertising boards at the Molineux stadium. Royal Caribbean is also the shirt sponsor and major partner of Inter Miami FC in the USA.

Passengers Avoid Jail Time After Stealing $100,000 Of Jewellery On A Cruise

Two men have been handed 15-month suspended sentences and 270 hours of community service after stealing jewellery from an MSC cruise ship.

MSC Virtuosa

Gary Cooper (30) and Benjamin Greenwood (33) stole £76,000 (around $100,000) of rings and necklaces from an Effy Jewelry store onboard MSC Virtuosa in March 2023.

The two men boarded the ship in Southampton and quickly hit the bars. They then found the jewellery store unattended, and decided to steal the items.

Once the theft was discovered, CCTV was used to track down the men, who were aggressive and had to be restrained.

Reportedly, despite a body search, the men had been able to hide the items down their pants, and several items were never returned – around $50,000 worth. Cooper admitted he sold most of the jewellery he stole, while Greenwood returned around $18,000 worth.

The men were removed from the ship but then released awaiting charge. They were only onboard for four hours.

Judge Rowland decided not to impose a jail sentence due to the men having no prior convictions and showing remorse, admitting that their actions were “stupid and foolish”.

The Port of Tampa is currently closed so Carnival Paradise was not able to return to the port this morning. Carnival Cruise Line is now planning on departing tomorrow on a five day cruise instead of the scheduled six day cruise to the Western Caribbean.

Carnival Cruise Line sent the following message to those booked on the August 5, 2024 cruise on Carnival Paradise:

“Dear Carnival Paradise Guests,

We hope those of you in areas impacted by Debby are safe.

This advisory requires your prompt review as we work to keep you informed about your cruise. As we communicated earlier, our plan is to operate your cruise as a 5-day voyage, departing tomorrow, Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Please check your email for all the details.

Thank you for your understanding and the crew will be standing by to make sure that you have the very very best of times and all the fun you deserve.”

You can sign up for free text alerts by texting CCL4 to 278473 (CRUISE).

Carnival Elation had its previous sailing cut short by a day and the current cruise left one day ahead of schedule.

Carnival wanted to get in and out of Jacksonville before the tropical storm impacted the port.

You can watch a short two minute video below from Meteorologist Amy Sweezey about how the tropical storm is impacting Carnival cruises.

Carnival Cruise Line is also watching for any potential impacts to Charleston. Carnival Sunshine is due to return back to Charleston on August 8.

Carnivals’ Fleet Operation’s Center in Miami is closely monitoring the storm as it moves closer to South Carolina.

Carnival is asking guests who are booked on the upcoming cruise on Carnival Sunshine to watch their emails for any announcements with changes.

Carnival Cruise Line said that their number one priority is the safety of their passengers and crew members.

Disney Treasure Floated Out In Germany After External Build Completed

Disney Cruise Line’s next cruise ship, Disney Treasure, has been floated out at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany.

Disney Treasure

The float out is a major step in any ship’s construction, as it shows that the external structure is completely ready to float and the ship can now just move onto the interior fittings and furnishings, along with a few other external features that aren’t linked to the ship being able to float.

Disney Treasure was floated out aft-first at the shipyard with Captain Minnie Mouse standing by to greet her.

The celebratory event included several Disney songs played, and fireworks from the construction hall as the ship moved into the harbour.

The float-out process took around an hour, as every care is taken to make sure there are no bumps on the way. Once the ship was in position in the harbour, she played ‘When You Wish Upon A Star’ on her horn, a tradition for the cruise line.

Once the next steps are complete, the ship will be sailed down the River Ems to begin her sea trials, though there’s several weeks of work to do before then.

Once she is verified as seaworthy, the cruise line will take full ownership and Disney Treasure will cross the Atlantic Ocean to reach Port Canaveral.

Her maiden voyage is set for 21st December 2024.

Carnival Elation Makes Significant Itinerary Adjustment As More Storm Changes Likely

Carnival Cruise Line has announced big changes to cruises on Carnival Elation this week due to the arrival of Tropical Storm Debby.

Carnival Elation

The four-night cruise that departed on 1st August has now been shortened to three nights, ending on Sunday 4th August.

And the following cruise that was originally due to depart on Monday 5th August has been brought forward a day, extending it.

This is to make sure that the ship is clear of the port before Monday when the storm is expected to reach land, and gale-force winds will make it impossible to carry out normal port operations.

Carnival has emailed all guests to inform them of the changes. The ship is due to depart from Jacksonville and many guests onboard will likely be driving to the port, so hopes are that many of those due on the next cruise will be able to adjust their plans and still make it to the ship.

The guests being asked to leave the ship a day early will be given a pro-rated refund for the day of the cruise that they miss. No other compensation has been announced yet, but typically some form of future cruise credit will be offered in these situations as well.

The guests now boarding the ship a day early won’t be asked to pay any extra, essentially getting a free cruise day.

Carnival hasn’t announced any other reimbursements for guests’ other travel plans yet, including anyone who has to change flights.

But this is why travel insurance is so important, as it would cover these costs. Guests who are cruising the Caribbean during these summer months absolutely need insurance, as storms such as this can occur at any time.

More disruption is expected because of Debby, and anyone departing a cruise over the next couple of days from a Caribbean port is advised to look out for any communication from their cruise line.

The 5 Future Ships Coming to Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival Cruise Line is currently the second largest cruise line in the world with 27 ships in service. However, they do offer cruises from more ports in the U.S. than any other line.

Carnival cruise ship

Over the past six months, Carnival has placed orders for five more new cruise ships that will all be in service by 2033.

  • 2027 – 4th Excel class ship
  • 2028 – 5th Excel class ship
  • 2029 – 1st 230,000 gross ton ship
  • 2031 – 2nd 230,000 gross ton ship
  • 2033 – 3rd 230,000 gross ton ship

Two More Excel Class Ships

In February, Carnival Cruise Line announced an order for a fourth Excel class ship that will be a sister ship to Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee.

The ship is currently scheduled to debut in the spring of 2027.

A month later, a fifth Excel class ship was ordered and is expected to enter service in 2028.

The ships will be in the ballpark of 180,000 gross tons in size.

They will both be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard.

Excel class ships offer something that no other cruise ships in the world have, a roller coaster on the top deck. BOLT travels up to 35 mph around the Lido Deck.

The first three ships in this class have have names from previous Carnival cruise ships. It will be interesting to see if Carnival continues that trend.

Three New 230,000 Gross Ton Ships

Carnival Cruise Line was the first cruise line to ever have a ship over 100,000 gross tons in size when Carnival Destiny (now Carnival Sunshine) debuted in 1996.

Last week, the cruise line announced their first ships that will be over 200,000 gross tons in size.

This new class will usher in the era of mega cruise ships for Carnival. At 230,000 gross tons in size, they will be the third largest class in the world and the largest outside of Royal Caribbean. They will also be in the top 10 largest cruise ships ever built.

The ships are currently scheduled to debut in 2029, 2031 and 2033.

The cruise ships will have 3,000 cabins and carry up to 8,000 passengers at maximum capacity.

The ships will be built by Fincantieri and will be the largest ever constructed in Italy.

Carnival Cruise Line has not given any other details on this new class of ships. It will be interesting to see what Carnival does with these massive ships and the new features that they will have.

This will not be the first class of ships over 200,000 gross tons that Carnival has worked on.  20 years ago, Carnival was developing a futurist ship prototype that was truly ahead of its time.  Many of the features on Project Pinnacle have been incorporated into new ships.

One thing I would love to see on this new class from Carnival are some of the features that were planned for the Pinnacle class.

Project Pinnacle had everything from a lazy river to a people mover system.

Project Pinnacle was a cruise ship prototype from Carnival Cruise Line that was never built.

Cruise Fever will have all details about these five new ships from Carnival Cruise Line when they are announced.

All five of the ships that Carnival Cruise Line has on order through 2033 are currently unnamed.

Princess Cruises Launches Loyalty Accelerator Program With Double Cruise Credits

Princess Cruises has launched a new Loyalty Accelerator Program promotion running until December 2024, letting guests fast-track their way further up the Captain’s Circle rankings.

Sapphire Princess sailing on the water with a sunset behind the ship.

The Captain’s Circle is Princess Cruises’ loyalty programme which rewards guests who sail with Princess Cruises multiple times.

Each tier adds more benefits, up to the top-level tier Elite which offers discounts in onboard shops and on shore excursions, priority tender, complimentary laundry services and more.

As part of the new Loyalty Accelerator Program, any guest sailing on a cruise between 1st August 2024 and 1st December 2024 will gain double points for their cruise, provided they upgrade to either a Princess Plus or Princess Premier fare.

Any guests who already had a booking during this time and who had already paid for Princess Plus or Princess Premier will be given the bonus automatically, but guests who are booked on a standard fare will need to upgrade their fare to qualify.

They also have to do so no later than two days before setting sail. Otherwise, they won’t get the double points.

Guests can move up the tiers either through the number of cruises, or the number of cruise days:

  • Gold – After one cruise, any length
  • Ruby – After 3 cruises, or 30 cruise days
  • Platinum – After 5 cruises, or 50 cruise days
  • Elite – After 15 cruises, or 150 cruise days

The promotion counts double on both cruises and cruise days – so one 7-night cruise would be counted as two cruises, and as 14 cruise days.
