For the first time ever, an entire cruise ship is being dedicated to a gluten-free experience, where every restaurant, buffet area, and snack is safe to eat for those with celiac disease and gluten allergies.
Traveling with celiac disease is no picnic. Not only do you have to figure out which restaurants actually treat the gluten-free policy seriously, but just finding which eateries offer these choices can be a chore.
To be fair, the cruise industry has done a lot more in this area in recent years. Most major cruise lines now have designated galley spaces, clearly labeled menus, and staff trained to prevent cross-contamination.
We have even seen incredibly successful “Celiac Cruises” where groups of gluten-free travelers set sail together. But even on those sailings, you are still sharing the ship with thousands of passengers who very much want gluten in their food.
While you might have a dedicated dining room, you still have to keep your guard up at the pool-deck grill, the buffet areas, or even at the soft-serve ice cream machines.
Instead of reserving a small corner on a ship, they are taking over the entire vessel, so everything on board is safe to eat for those who can’t eat gluten.
Zero Gluten Allowed On Board
For this 12-night sailing on the ship Oceania Vista, gluten is completely banned from the vessel. Every single one of the 11 onboard restaurants, cafes, bars, and 24-hour room service will operate 100% gluten-free.
The cruise line is entirely overhauling its supply chain for this voyage. Standard flour, traditional soy sauce, and regular beer won’t even be allowed past the security checkpoints at the pier.
Every ingredient is being individually vetted by celiac experts before it ever reaches the ship’s kitchens.
For guests, that means total freedom. You can walk into any venue at any hour of the day, order absolutely anything on the menu, and never have to ask a single question about shared fryers or cross-contamination.
And for those with celiac disease, that’s a big deal, and one less thing to worry about while enjoying a vacation at sea.
The Itinerary and Dining Experience
Oceania Cruises is highly regarded in the cruise world for having some of the best culinary programs at sea. Because the entire ship is a safe zone, cruisers won’t have to settle for limited menu options.
Instead, they will get full, unrestricted access to safe versions of upscale Italian, classic steakhouse favorites, Asian-inspired dishes, and French cuisine.
Scheduled to sail from May 31 to June 12, 2028, the cruise features the following itinerary:
The Route: A round-trip voyage departing from Southampton, England, traveling through the British Isles and Ireland.
The Ports: Stops include Dublin, Belfast, Liverpool, Glasgow, and the Scottish Highlands.
On Shore Safety Too: Celiac Cruise is currently coordinating with local operators in each port to arrange pre-vetted, gluten-free shore excursions.
It’s a 12-day cruise where the entire ship is designed exclusively around the safety for gluten-free eaters. And while it’s the world’s first ship to do this for everyone on board, its success will mean more sailings like this to come in the future.
You can check out this cruise yourself at the Celiac Cruise website here. Prices start around $7,299 per person with the luxury cruise line.

A violent brawl involving at least a dozen cruise passengers has been captured on video at Royal Caribbean’s newly opened Royal Beach Club Paradise Island facility in the Bahamas.
The altercation, which took place at the venue’s Floating Flamingo Pool & Swim Up Bar, required intervention from multiple security personnel and club employees to bring the situation under control. The incident represents the second major physical confrontation involving cruise passengers in Nassau within days, raising questions about guest conduct at popular cruise destinations.
Fight Erupts at Central Pool Area
The altercation unfolded at the south side of the Floating Flamingo Pool & Swim Up Bar, one of the central gathering spots at the Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island.
Video footage posted to Facebook on 9th June shows the fight in full swing, though the exact date of the incident remains unclear. The pool area, known for its colourful arching architecture and brightly coloured chairs and loungers, became the scene of a chaotic physical exchange that lasted over a minute.
The video captures a disturbing scene of physical violence including slaps, pushes, hair pulling, and punches among the participants. Even after some guests fell to the ground during the melee, the fighting continued with those involved showing little sign of stopping voluntarily. Music from a nearby DJ covered most of the verbal exchanges, though guests could clearly be seen yelling at one another throughout the confrontation.
Multiple Guests Involved in Physical Exchange
At least a dozen guests appear in the video footage participating in the physical altercation to varying degrees. Whilst the majority of those actively fighting appear to be women, several men can be seen nearby and involved at the edges of the confrontation.
It remains unclear whether all participants were involved from the initial spark of the incident or if some joined in as tensions escalated and the situation spiralled out of control.
At least three security personnel and several Royal Beach Club employees can be seen in the video attempting to intervene and break up the altercation.
The staff members worked to separate fighting guests and calm the increasingly volatile situation, though their efforts took considerable time to achieve any success. Some other guests also appeared to step in, attempting to restrain their friends or companions from continuing to participate in the scuffle.
The response highlighted the challenges staff face when dealing with violent guest behaviour at resort-style facilities. Despite the presence of security and the intervention of multiple employees, the fight continued for a significant period before order could be restored to the area.
Other Guests Forced to Clear Area
Throughout the disturbing incident, other guests visiting the Royal Beach Club were forced to stay clear of the fighting area for their own safety. The video shows one woman quickly moving her young children away from the altercation.
As the video concludes, the fight appears to have finally calmed, though one voice can be heard saying “Get out of here,” which may have been the person filming or another nearby guest choosing to distance themselves from the spectacle rather than continue observing.
The incident undoubtedly disrupted the experience for numerous other guests at the facility, turning what should have been a relaxing day at a premium beach club into an uncomfortable and potentially frightening situation. The Royal Beach Club Paradise Island opened in late December 2025 as Royal Caribbean’s newest private destination offering, designed to provide guests with an upscale beach experience during calls to Nassau.
Part of Troubling Week in Nassau
This brawl represents the second major violent incident involving cruise passengers in Nassau within a matter of days. Earlier in the week, five cruise guests were arrested after fighting in the cruise port area on Monday, 8th June, with their altercation continuing even after they arrived at the police station.
That earlier fight resulted in property damage and injuries to police officers, demonstrating a troubling pattern of guest misbehaviour in the Bahamian capital.
The timing of these incidents raises concerns about passenger conduct and the challenges faced by both cruise lines and local authorities in maintaining order. Nassau remains one of the most popular cruise destinations in the Caribbean, welcoming hundreds of thousands of passengers annually across multiple cruise lines.
Potential Ship and Guest Identification
Because the exact date of the Royal Beach Club fight remains unknown, it is unclear which Royal Caribbean vessel the involved guests may have been visiting from.
On Tuesday, 9th June, the day the video was posted to social media, Utopia of the Seas was the only Royal Caribbean ship calling at Nassau. However, if the incident occurred on a different date, guests from other Royal Caribbean vessels could have been involved.
Royal Caribbean has not issued any public statement regarding the altercation or identified the specific guests involved. The cruise line typically does not comment publicly on individual guest conduct matters, though internal investigations and disciplinary actions may be underway behind the scenes.
The guests involved in the brawl are clearly in violation of Royal Caribbean’s Guest Health, Safety, and Conduct Policy, which explicitly outlines expectations for passenger behaviour and the consequences for failing to meet those standards.
The policy covers all Royal Caribbean venues, including private destinations such as the Royal Beach Club properties, and all guests agree to abide by these rules when booking a cruise. The fighting captured on video violates multiple provisions of the conduct policy, potentially exposing participants to severe penalties.
Specifically, any “verbally abusive or offensive language directed toward anyone” is prohibited under the policy, whether slurs or profanity are directed at other guests or crew members. Likewise, “inappropriate or abusive behaviour” is explicitly banned, which includes “uninvited physical contact” – legal terminology that encompasses physical fighting. The policy also prohibits “disruptive and discourteous” behaviour, and the brawl certainly qualifies as both disruptive and discourteous to other guests attempting to enjoy their day at the pool facility.
Potential Consequences for Involved Guests
Violations of Royal Caribbean’s conduct policy can lead to a range of serious consequences depending on the severity of the infraction.
Guests found to have breached the policy may face removal of onboard privileges, suspension of loyalty programme benefits, being removed from the ship at the next port of call, or even permanent bans from future Royal Caribbean cruises. Given the severity and public nature of this incident, it is likely that those involved may face the harshest penalties available under the policy.
Additionally, the incident may have been reported to local Bahamian authorities for processing and possible criminal charges.
Physical assault and disorderly conduct can carry legal consequences beyond those imposed by the cruise line, potentially including fines, criminal records, or even jail time depending on local laws and the specific circumstances of the altercation. The combination of cruise line sanctions and potential legal action means that a few minutes of poor judgement could have lasting consequences for those involved in the fight.

Royal Caribbean has found itself in an unusual predicament after overselling a popular Alaska cruise. The cruise line is now urgently seeking volunteers willing to change their travel plans in exchange for generous compensation packages.
Voyager of the Seas’ 7-night Alaska sailing embarking on 19th June 2026 from Seattle has been booked beyond capacity, prompting the line to contact affected guests just one week before departure.
The cruise line dispatched its letter to guests on 12th June 2026, giving passengers exactly seven days’ notice of the overbooking situation.
The communication asked whether guests and their travel parties have flexible arrangements that would allow them to consider alternative sailings. Perhaps most challenging for passengers attempting to make decisions is the timeline – volunteers may not learn whether their offer to switch has been accepted until as late as 18th June, merely one day before the scheduled departure.
This compressed timeframe leaves little room for travellers to adjust flights, accommodation, or other pre-cruise arrangements should they ultimately remain on the original sailing.
Generous Compensation Package Offered To Volunteers
Royal Caribbean is offering substantial incentives to passengers willing to accommodate the scheduling change. Volunteers who are selected to move to a different sailing will receive a complete refund of their cruise fare plus an additional 50% future cruise credit applicable to any Royal Caribbean voyage.
The cruise line has also pledged to book these passengers in the same or a comparable stateroom category on their rescheduled cruise. Furthermore, any non-refundable, pre-purchased travel expenses – such as flights or hotels – will be reimbursed by Royal Caribbean, removing much of the financial risk associated with making last-minute changes.
Original Itinerary Features Classic Alaska Highlights
The oversold 19th June sailing showcases many of Alaska’s most sought-after destinations, which likely contributed to its popularity. The 7-night itinerary aboard the 3,602-guest Voyager of the Seas includes calls at Juneau, Skagway, and scenic cruising through Endicott Arm Fjord.
The voyage also features a stop in Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to Seattle, offering passengers a comprehensive Alaska experience. The inclusion of both popular ports and dramatic fjord scenery makes this particular sailing especially attractive to cruisers.
Passengers specifically interested in sailing aboard Voyager of the Seas have options later in the season. The ship will operate additional 7-night Alaska cruises departing from Seattle on 18th September and 25th September 2026.
These late-season sailings offer similar itineraries and would allow guests to experience the same vessel they originally booked, though the September timeframe means different weather conditions and potentially altered wildlife viewing opportunities. Alaska’s cruise season typically extends through September, though temperatures are generally cooler and daylight hours shorter than in June.
Anthem Of The Seas August Sailing Offered As Alternative
Another option presented to displaced passengers is a 7-night cruise aboard Anthem of the Seas departing 24th August 2026 from Seattle. This itinerary visits Ketchikan, Sitka, Endicott Arm Fjord and Dawes Glacier, Juneau, and Victoria before returning to the Emerald City.
Anthem of the Seas is a larger Quantum-class vessel offering different amenities and entertainment options compared to the Voyager-class ship.
The August timing splits the difference between the original June departure and the September alternatives, potentially offering favourable weather whilst still providing opportunities to witness Alaska’s natural beauty.
Royal Caribbean is additionally offering passengers the opportunity to switch to a one-way 7-night Alaska cruise sailing from Seward to Vancouver.
This itinerary features calls at Hubbard Glacier, Juneau, Skagway, and Icy Strait Point along the route. One-way cruises, often called “repositioning” or “open-jaw” itineraries, require different flight arrangements as passengers embark in one city and disembark in another.
However, these sailings often provide access to ports and glaciers that roundtrip cruises from Seattle cannot reach, potentially offering a more diverse Alaska experience.
Full Cancellation With 100% Future Cruise Credit Available
For passengers whose schedules cannot accommodate any of the alternative Alaska sailings, Royal Caribbean is offering another option. Guests can choose to cancel their booking entirely in exchange for a full refund plus a 100% future cruise credit.
This generous cancellation policy allows passengers to apply the entire value of their cruise fare toward any Royal Caribbean sailing worldwide, not limited to Alaska itineraries.
No obligation exists for passengers to accept any offer – those unable or unwilling to change plans can simply ignore the request and proceed with their original booking if space ultimately becomes available.
Overbooking Practice Standard Across Cruise Industry
The situation facing Voyager of the Seas reflects standard revenue management practices throughout the cruise industry. Cruise lines routinely sell slightly beyond 100% capacity to account for inevitable last-minute cancellations and passenger no-shows.
Revenue from an empty cabin cannot be recovered once the ship departs, making these “perishable” spaces a significant concern for cruise operators.
Industry analysts examine historical booking patterns and cancellation data to determine safe overbooking levels for each voyage, though these calculations occasionally miss the mark when fewer passengers than anticipated cancel their reservations.

Travellers living with coeliac disease will soon be able to enjoy a cruise holiday without worrying about menus, cross-contamination or special meal requests, thanks to what is being billed as the world’s first fully gluten-free ocean voyage.
Specialist operator Celiac Cruise has partnered with Oceania Cruises to charter the 1,200-guest Oceania Vista for a dedicated 12-night sailing around the British Isles in May and June 2028.
During the voyage, every restaurant, café and dining venue onboard will operate entirely gluten-free, creating a unique experience for guests who normally have to carefully manage every meal while travelling.
The cruise departs Southampton on 31st May 2028 and returns on 12th June after visiting destinations across England, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
According to organisers, no gluten-containing products will be carried onboard during the sailing, allowing guests to dine freely at any venue without concerns about accidental exposure or cross-contamination.
“With coeliac disease impacting two immediate family members, it brings me great joy on both a personal and professional level that we are able to host the largest-ever completely gluten-free cruise aboard the Oceania Vista, and first-of-its-kind to the British Isles.
“Giving the coeliac and broader gluten-free communities a means to travel completely worry-free and let vacation feel exactly how it’s supposed to – easy – is our entire purpose at Celiac Cruise.”
Maureen Basye, co-founder of Celiac Cruise
The concept aims to eliminate many of the challenges gluten-free travellers regularly face. On most cruises, guests with coeliac disease are required to notify the cruise line in advance, discuss requirements with restaurant staff and often pre-order meals a day ahead.
“On a lot of cruises, you have to pre-order your food the night before,” Basye said. “You have to make a big fuss and talk to the server and maître d’. We want people to be able to go on vacation and not have to constantly be thinking or worrying about their food.”
Cruise line executives say the project highlights growing demand for dedicated travel experiences tailored to specific dietary needs.
“Culinary excellence has been at the heart of Oceania Cruises from day one, and ensuring every guest can experience it fully, regardless of dietary need, is essential to that promise.
“While Oceania Cruises has long offered gluten-free options across our fleet, working with the Celiac Cruise team deepened our understanding of the celiac community and the unmet need for a truly seamless travel experience.”
Nathan Hickman, Chief Sales Officer for Oceania Cruises
A Fully Gluten-Free Culinary Experience
Unlike previous gluten-free charter sailings, which typically featured dedicated dining areas alongside standard cruise dining operations, the 2028 voyage will transform the entire ship into a gluten-free environment.
Guests will have unrestricted access to all 11 dining venues aboard Oceania Vista, including The Grand Dining Room, Italian restaurant Toscana, French venue Jacques, Asian-inspired Red Ginger, steakhouse Polo Grill, Aquamar Kitchen, Terrace Café and Waves Grill.
The cruise operator said every galley will undergo inspection and all food products and labels will be individually reviewed to ensure compliance.
Crew members will also receive specialised training focused on coeliac disease awareness and gluten-free food safety. The programme is delivered in collaboration with the Celiac Disease Foundation, a long-standing partner of Celiac Cruise.
According to organisers, previous guests have often described the experience as emotional, with some becoming overwhelmed at the prospect of walking into a buffet and knowing every item available is safe to eat.
British Isles Itinerary And Pricing
The roundtrip sailing from Southampton includes calls at Cobh and Dublin in Ireland, Liverpool in England, Greenock near Glasgow, Belfast, Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands, Invergordon in the Scottish Highlands and Newhaven, the gateway to Edinburgh.
Celiac Cruise is also arranging curated shore excursions with gluten-free options, while selected food-focused experiences ashore will be reviewed by the company’s team.
Fares begin at $7,299 per person for a French Veranda stateroom. The fare includes either Oceania’s House Select Beverage Package or a $600 per cabin shore excursion credit, along with unlimited Starlink WiFi, gratuities, laundry services, speciality coffees, smoothies, gourmet ice cream, fitness classes and in-suite dining.
A range of higher-category accommodation is available, including Concierge Veranda cabins, Penthouse Suites, Oceania Suites, Vista Suites and the ship’s top-tier Owner’s Suites. Solo travellers can also book dedicated Solo Concierge Veranda accommodation.
Founded in 2018 by Basye and travel executive Connie Saunders, Celiac Cruise has steadily expanded its portfolio of dedicated sailings. The company has previously partnered with Royal Caribbean International, AmaWaterways and Oceania Cruises, operating more than 30 cruises designed specifically for the gluten-free community.
The 2028 British Isles voyage represents its most ambitious project to date and could mark a significant milestone for both the cruise industry and travellers living with coeliac disease.

Misinformation in the cruise industry is all too commonplace. And headlines like “cruise ship hits sandbar” might get clicks, but they just don’t pass the reality test.
A post on Reddit was getting a lot of eyeballs and comments as it claimed that Carnival Legend had run aground on a sandbar in the Baltic Sea, leaving passengers “stuck” and waiting for answers on their way from Estonia to Finland.
Cruise ship tracking map of Carnival Legend. Image credit: VesselFinder
But Reddit wasn’t the only place this claim is being made. A few accounts on Facebook and X are also “reporting” that the Carnival ship struck a sandbar and it’s a “dire” situation. The main Reddit post making this claim has over 60 comments and 80+ upvotes as users chime in.
While a headline like this will get a lot of attention, let’s take a closer look at what actually happened on the 2,124-passenger ship.
First, let’s just clear the air: The ship is fine, nobody is stuck, and there isn’t a sandbar in sight.
Here is what actually went down.
How the Rumor Got Started
The worry started when a passenger’s family member posted on the r/CarnivalCruiseFans community online, stating that the ship had suddenly ground to a halt in the middle of the night.
Cruise ship tracking sites showed that Carnival Legend’s speed had dropped to about 1 knot before displaying as “N/A.”
And of course, the internet did what the internet does, and the “sandbar” rumor was born.
The online post worded it like this:
“My family is currently on the ship and stated that they just ran a ground on a sandbar and are currently stuck. As of right now, passengers have not been notified as to what the plan of action is for moving forward and getting the ship unstuck.”
Why a Sandbar is Very Unlikely
While hitting a sandbar is something every vessel would want to avoid in places like the Bahamas or the Mississippi River, a pesky little thing called “geography” breaks this myth into pieces.
Carnival Legend was traveling through the Gulf of Finland, navigating the waters between Tallinn and Helsinki. According to standard maritime charts, the average depth of the water in this channel is roughly 230 feet.
So yes, rather impossible to run aground here.
What Actually Happened?
So, why did the ship stop? Passengers currently on board eventually cleared up the mystery, confirming that the “grounding” was actually a routine, planned operational event.
“We did not hit a sand bar,” one passenger posted directly from the ship. “We did however complete an annual compass calibration that took several hours as we spun in a very, very slow circle.“
Another cruiser on board confirmed that the cruise director made an announcement over the PA system explaining the annual drill, noting that it was a complete “non-event” that simply required the ship to safely idle and pivot in the calm waters to calibrate its navigation systems.
“I’m currently on the ship also. It was just an annual drill. The cruise director announced it over the PA. It was a non-event for all the passengers as it changed nothing. The area is incredibly calm and as other people mentioned we are just wasting time anyway before going to Helsinki. We are in port this morning on time with no issues,” one commenter on the Reddit thread stated.
Current Status: Smooth Sailing
The ship is sailing at a smooth 12 knots right now, according to Cruise Mapper, and the ship’s itinerary is still on schedule.
The ship arrived in Helsinki, Finland with no issues and is headed to Nynashamn, Sweden with an expected arrival time of 8:00 AM on Sunday.

A river cruise captain carrying more than 100 passengers has been removed from duty after failing an alcohol test during a joint enforcement operation on one of Belgium’s busiest waterways.
Authorities confirmed the captain was operating a river cruise vessel with 106 passengers on board when he tested above the legal alcohol limit during an inspection near the Albert Canal. The operation was carried out by Belgian and Dutch enforcement agencies and involved checks on multiple commercial vessels travelling through the region.
According to a statement issued by Belgian police, inspectors examined nine commercial ships and one river cruise vessel as part of the coordinated action.
“In total, 9 vessels and 1 river cruise ship were inspected. All active crew members took a breathalyzer test,” Belgian police said in a statement translated into English.
“The skipper of a river cruise ship carrying 106 passengers tested positive for alcohol. His boating license was immediately revoked.”
The captain was immediately relieved of his duties and replaced by another qualified officer so the voyage could continue safely. Authorities have not released the captain’s identity, and the vessel involved has not been officially named.
Under Belgian law, the alcohol limit for recreational operators is 0.5 g/l of blood or 0.22 mg/l of exhaled breath. For professional operators, including those responsible for commercial vessels, the permitted limit is significantly lower at 0.2 g/l of blood or 0.09 mg/l of exhaled breath.
In addition to losing his licence, the captain could also face financial penalties from Flemish waterway authorities.
Questions Remain Over Ship Identity
Officials have revealed only limited details about the vessel involved, confirming that it was sailing between Antwerp in Belgium and Maastricht in the Netherlands at the time of the inspection. The ship is also understood to be Swiss-owned.
Based on vessel movements in the region during early June, several river cruise operators had ships travelling along similar routes. Industry tracking data indicates that vessels operated by Swiss-based river cruise companies, including ships from the VIVA Cruises fleet, were active in the area during the same period.
Other major European river cruise operators also had vessels sailing between Antwerp and Maastricht around the time of the inspection. One vessel that followed a broadly similar itinerary was a Viking-operated ship sailing as part of a longer journey through the Netherlands and Belgium, although authorities have not linked any specific vessel or cruise line to the incident.
As a result, the identity of the ship involved remains unconfirmed.
Cruise Industry Maintains Strict Alcohol Rules
The incident is highly unusual within the cruise industry, where alcohol policies for officers and crew are generally among the strictest in the wider travel sector.
Captains hold ultimate responsibility for the safe navigation of their vessels and are expected to maintain the highest professional standards. Most cruise operators enforce strict limits on alcohol consumption while on duty, with crew members often prohibited from drinking within several hours of reporting for work.
On ocean-going cruise ships, alcohol limits for crew are typically set well below those permitted for passengers, and violations can result in immediate dismissal. Safety procedures require crew members to be capable of responding instantly to emergencies, making impairment a serious concern for operators.
While no injuries, collisions or other safety incidents were reported during this case, authorities acted quickly to remove the captain from command before the voyage continued.
The Albert Canal, one of Belgium’s most important inland waterways, handles significant commercial and passenger traffic each year and is regularly subject to safety and compliance inspections by regional authorities.

Five cruise passengers have been arrested after a fight at Nassau Cruise Port spiralled into a violent confrontation with police officers, leaving four members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force injured and causing damage at a local police station.
The incident unfolded shortly after 4:45 p.m. on Monday, 8th June, when officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving several cruise visitors in the busy port area.
Authorities confirmed that three women and two men, all citizens of the United States, were taken into custody following the altercation.
Video footage captured at the scene and widely shared on social media shows a chaotic confrontation between passengers, with individuals exchanging punches and pushing one another as port personnel attempted to intervene and separate those involved.
While police have not disclosed what led to the dispute, footage circulating online appears to show the confrontation involving a younger group of passengers and an elderly couple. The circumstances surrounding the initial argument remain under investigation.
Situation Escalated At Police Station
The disturbance did not end when the passengers were removed from the port.
According to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, officers transported the five suspects to the Tourism Police Station for processing. However, police allege that while preparations were being made to search the individuals, the group began “violently struggling” with officers.
Investigators said one female suspect threw a chair through a glass door, shattering it. During the same incident, a male suspect allegedly kicked out the remaining glass in what police believe was an attempt to escape custody.
Additional police units were dispatched to the station to assist in bringing the situation under control, and officers were able to restrain the individuals involved.
The five passengers could now face multiple charges, including assaulting police officers, resisting arrest, fighting in a public place, malicious damage and disorderly behaviour.
Four Officers Injured
The confrontation resulted in injuries to four police officers.
According to authorities, two officers suffered blows to their bodies during the struggle, while another sustained a cut to the mouth. A fourth officer suffered a serious shoulder injury and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Police have not released an update on the condition of the injured officer.
The passengers involved in the original fight also received minor injuries and were treated by Emergency Medical Services personnel at the scene.
A witness who recorded part of the altercation, Facebook user Joshua H. Mott, claimed the passengers were travelling aboard one of the Royal Caribbean ships visiting Nassau that day. Officials have not publicly confirmed which vessel the group sailed on.
Cruise schedules show Nassau welcomed six ships on 8th June. The visiting vessels included Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, Princess Cruises’ Caribbean Princess, and Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Fantasy.
Nassau remains one of the busiest cruise destinations in the Caribbean, regularly handling multiple large vessels on the same day and welcoming thousands of passengers ashore. While incidents involving cruise visitors are relatively uncommon, authorities maintain a strong police presence around the port area due to the high volume of tourist traffic.

Carnival Cruise Line has announced an extensive new dining programme that will introduce a range of restaurants, bars and upgraded food experiences across its fleet, while also debuting several brand-new venues aboard its next generation of ships.
The initiative, called The Next Course, will see new culinary concepts launch on the upcoming Carnival Festivale in 2027 and Carnival Tropicale in 2028, alongside a series of dining enhancements that are already being rolled out across the wider fleet.
The cruise line says the new offerings have been developed using insights gained from serving more than six million guests annually and preparing over 100 million meals each year, giving it a unique perspective on changing dining preferences and emerging food trends.
Carnival formally unveiled the programme during a special event in New Orleans hosted by Chief Culinary Officer Emeril Lagasse, offering guests and industry attendees a preview of the cruise line’s future food and beverage strategy.
“Our approach to dining combined with our team’s amazing service is a driving force behind Carnival’s success,
“Our latest culinary adventure marks a bold step forward to give guests an unforgettable experience with a variety of new vibrant flavors fleetwide.”
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.
New Restaurants And Bars Planned For Future Ships
Among the headline additions are several new specialty dining venues that will debut on Carnival Festivale and Carnival Tropicale.
Emeril’s Coastal Seafood will bring a menu focused on coastal-inspired dishes created by Emeril Lagasse, while Uku Lei Lei will blend Hawaiian-inspired cuisine with a selection of Asian favourites.
Another new concept, Fetaccine, will offer Mediterranean flavours, combining traditional Italian dishes with Greek specialities.
Carnival Festivale will also be home to Le Bistro Musicale, an exclusive restaurant featuring classic French cuisine served in a Paris-inspired setting enhanced by live music and entertainment.
The ship will additionally introduce several new bar concepts designed to create more immersive onboard experiences.
The Spark is planned as an energetic lounge venue featuring live performances alongside cocktails inspired by famous songs. Mix will allow guests to customise drinks by combining flavours and ingredients to create personalised cocktails, while Festival Grounds Coffee & Bar will serve speciality coffees during the day and cocktails in a lively social atmosphere later in the evening.
Dining Upgrades Expanding Across The Fleet
In addition to the new restaurants and bars, Carnival is introducing a number of enhancements that will reach ships across the fleet.
The cruise line is refreshing menus in several key dining venues, including the Main Dining Room, where guests will see new breakfast, brunch and dinner options. Updates are also planned for Lido Marketplace, including the introduction of a new Lido Family Menu featuring daily favourites aimed at younger cruisers.
BlueIguana Cantina will receive rotating daily specials as part of the overhaul.
Carnival is also introducing Bagels @ Sea, offering freshly baked bagels with a variety of toppings, while the Chef’s Table experience is being updated with new multi-course menus inspired by regional flavours.
Additional casual options are being added through a series of pop-up concepts. These include Fruity & Frosted Breakfast Bars and Ice Cream and Milkshake Bars on Excel-class ships, alongside other rotating food experiences across the fleet.
Technology and convenience are also a key part of the programme. Carnival plans to expand mobile ordering and collection options for its coffee venues, making it easier for guests to grab drinks on the go.
Meanwhile, a new Express Dining service in the Main Dining Room is intended to provide a quicker dining experience for passengers who prefer a faster meal without sacrificing the traditional restaurant setting.
The announcement represents one of Carnival’s most significant food and beverage investments in recent years, as the line continues to evolve its onboard dining offerings ahead of the arrivals of Carnival Festivale and Carnival Tropicale later this decade.

Royal Caribbean has celebrated a landmark week for its fleet expansion, reaching two significant milestones in the construction of future cruise ships. The cruise line has officially taken delivery of Legend of the Seas, the third vessel in its groundbreaking Icon Class, while also marking the start of physical assembly for its next Oasis-class ship, currently known as Oasis 7.
The developments underline Royal Caribbean’s ambitious growth plans, with multiple new ships already under construction and several more scheduled to join the fleet through the end of the decade.
Legend Of The Seas Delivered Ahead Of Summer Debut
Hundreds gathered at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland on 10th June 2026 as Royal Caribbean formally took ownership of Legend of the Seas during a delivery ceremony attended by more than 1,200 guests, crew members, executives and shipbuilding partners.
The handover took place inside the ship’s AquaDome, one of the defining features of the Icon Class, and was led by Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm.
“We’re incredibly proud to introduce Legend of the Seas to vacationers and continue the legacy of the revolutionary Icon Class,
“This wouldn’t be possible without the many talented individuals that came together to deliver what is truly the ultimate family vacation, and we look forward to making Legend’s debut this summer a legendary one.”
Michael Bayley
The ceremony brings to a close a construction process that began with the ship’s steel-cutting ceremony in January 2024. While the vessel has now officially entered Royal Caribbean’s fleet, work is not yet complete. The ship will sail to Cadiz, Spain, where final finishing touches will be completed before entering service.
At 248,663 gross tons and measuring 1,196 feet in length, Legend of the Seas is the third ship in the Icon Class, following Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas.
The ship will feature 28 dining venues, including the Hollywoodland Supper Club, seven pools and water experiences, a production of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Crown’s Edge skywalk and zipline attraction, and the three-storey Ultimate Family Townhouse accommodation.
Legend also becomes the fourth Royal Caribbean ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the third Icon-class vessel built by Meyer Turku.
Her inaugural voyage is scheduled for 4th July 2026, several weeks earlier than the originally announced debut date of 2nd August. The seven-night Western Mediterranean sailing will depart from Civitavecchia near Rome and call at Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca and La Spezia.
The ship will spend the summer and autumn operating Mediterranean itineraries before repositioning to Fort Lauderdale on 25th October 2026 for her first Caribbean season. Winter cruises will range from six to eight nights and include calls to destinations such as Willemstad, Curaçao, Falmouth and Labadee, with every itinerary also visiting Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Oasis 7 Begins Taking Shape In France
Just one day after taking delivery of Legend of the Seas, Royal Caribbean celebrated another important construction milestone as assembly officially began on the seventh Oasis-class ship at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France.
The keel-laying ceremony, held on 11th June 2026, brought together Royal Caribbean executives, shipyard officials and construction teams as the first steel block was lowered into the dry dock.
As part of a long-standing maritime tradition, newly minted euro and dollar coins were sealed beneath the first block to bring good fortune to the ship, its future crew and passengers.
“The first block of Oasis 7 has been set in the dry dock by the TGP, in the presence of Royal Caribbean Group and Chantiers de l’Atlantique teams – as Oasis 7’s assembly officially begins,” the shipyard shared on Facebook. “A milestone moment. Congratulations to all teams involved!”
The vessel, currently known by its project designation B35 and commonly referred to as Oasis 7, is expected to enter service in 2028. At approximately 236,900 gross tons, the ship will become the seventh member of the hugely successful Oasis Class.
Construction first began in October 2025 with a steel-cutting ceremony. With the keel now laid, assembly work will accelerate as the ship’s blocks are joined together to create the vessel’s more than 15 decks, signature neighbourhoods, AquaTheater and extensive dining and entertainment venues.
Royal Caribbean has not yet revealed the ship’s official name or specific onboard features. However, it is expected to build upon the design of sister ships Oasis of the Seas, Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Symphony of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas and Utopia of the Seas.
The decision to build a seventh Oasis-class vessel surprised many industry observers when it was announced in 2024, particularly as Royal Caribbean was already investing heavily in its newer Icon Class. The move highlighted the continuing popularity of Oasis-class ships, which remain among the largest and most successful cruise vessels ever built.
Oasis 7 is expected to closely follow Utopia of the Seas, the newest ship in the class and the first specifically designed for short three- and four-night cruise holidays.
More Ships Still To Come
Royal Caribbean’s newbuild pipeline remains one of the most ambitious in the cruise industry. Meyer Turku is already constructing Hero of the Seas, scheduled to debut in 2027 as the fourth Icon-class ship.
Beyond that, three additional Icon-class vessels are planned for delivery in 2028, 2029 and 2030, ensuring Royal Caribbean’s rapid fleet expansion continues well into the next decade. And there’s also the upcoming Discovery Class, too…
With one new flagship now delivered and another major vessel beginning to take shape, the cruise line’s future fleet is becoming increasingly clear as it prepares for another wave of growth.
