Carnival Cruise Line Makes First Port Call in Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa

Carnival Cruise Line officially returned to visiting Jamaica today when Carnival Sunrise stopped in Ocho Rios.

Carnival Sunrise Jamaica

Carnival Sunrise is the first Carnival cruise ship to make an official visit Jamaica in over two weeks.

Carnival Sunrise guests were welcomed to the island by local officials and community partners as cruise tourism begins its recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.

While in port, Carnival Sunrise team leaders participated in the ceremony recognizing the strength and resilience of the Ocho Rios community and the partnerships that make this destination a cherished part of Carnival’s itineraries.

Captain Martino Pellegrini presented a commemorative ship model to Mayor Michael Belnavis and Professor Gordon Shirley, President and CEO of the Port Authority of Jamaica, as a symbol of appreciation for their partnership and dedication to restoring operations.

Professor Shirley also shared remarks welcoming guests back to Jamaica and presented a piece of local artwork to Captain Pellegrini. The event underscores Carnival’s long-standing partnership with the people and ports of Jamaica.

Last week, Carnival Horizon stopped in Ocho Rios to deliver relief supplies. Carnival Corporation, in partnership with the Miami Heat and the Micky & Madeleine Arison Family, donated $1,000,000 to Direct Relief to support recovery efforts in Jamaica.

Cruise Worker Claims He Was Dismissed and Disembarked in Cozumel After Giving Notice

A Carnival Cruise Line entertainment staff member has shared a viral post alleging that he was abruptly removed from his ship in Cozumel, Mexico – just days before his planned resignation date.

Carnival employee left in Cozumel
Image: Trevor Johnson

Trevor Johnson, a (former) member of the Fun Squad aboard Carnival Valor, said he had intended to leave his position on 20th November after submitting his resignation earlier in the month.

In a statement posted to social media, Johnson described being woken by “a 6:00 a.m. knock” on his cabin door and told he had one hour to pack and disembark.

“How embarrassing and devastating it was to pack up my entire life in just one hour – with no chance to say proper goodbyes to my onboard family,

“I submitted my resignation on November 4th with the intention of leaving on November 20th… I wanted to allow time for a smooth transition.”

He said the decision to remove him from the ship came from Carnival’s shoreside management.

“It’s unfortunate that one person’s dislike or hate can dictate someone else’s growth,” he added, expressing both disappointment and gratitude toward his colleagues.

Online Reaction and Speculation

The post quickly spread across cruise discussion forums and Reddit, where users debated whether the situation amounted to a termination or a procedural sign-off.

One commenter noted:

“Sometimes cruise lines will change your sign-off date to coincide with a specific port that’s authorised to let crew leave.”

Others, however, suggested the incident sounded more like a disciplinary removal. “We call this the ‘6 o’clock knock’,” wrote one Reddit user, explaining that it usually indicates a termination rather than a voluntary departure.

Another commenter observed:

“If he gave two weeks’ notice, that means he broke his contract. Every crew member signs a fixed-term contract – when that contract ends, that’s when you can choose not to return.”

Several users also questioned Johnson’s account, suggesting his social media post may not tell the full story.

Still, others expressed sympathy for the suddenness of his departure, with one writing that it was “pretty harsh to have to leave in a foreign country like that.”

Cruise Contracts and Crew Rights

Cruise ship employment differs significantly from land-based work. Crew typically sign fixed-term contracts – often lasting several months – and are expected to serve them in full.

Unlike many shore-based roles, there is generally no “notice period” for early resignation, and cruise lines are under no obligation to allow a crew member to remain onboard after indicating an intent to leave.

If a crew member resigns mid-contract, the company may require them to disembark at the next available port where crew changes are permitted.

According to one former crew member commenting online, “It’s not uncommon for a company to ‘walk’ you off the ship once you resign – it’s business, not personal.”

Carnival’s Response

As of publication, Carnival Cruise Line has not issued a public statement regarding Johnson’s claims, and it’s unlikely they will.

Carnival HQ

The company’s employment policies, however, typically stipulate that crew must fulfil their contracts unless otherwise agreed with management.

Whether Johnson’s early departure was a procedural disembarkation or a disciplinary termination remains unconfirmed.

A Difficult Goodbye

In his farewell message, Johnson reflected on his three years at sea and said he remained proud of his time with Carnival.

“From the Bridge all the way down to the Engine Room, I truly loved and appreciated every single crew member,” he wrote. “I came aboard once as a first-time guest, and I now leave as a former crew member.”

He concluded his post by hinting that he might share more details after returning home: “Stay tuned for what’s next… because I’m not done yet.”

MSC Cruises Orders Two More World Class Ships in €3.5 Billion Deal

MSC Cruises has confirmed a major shipbuilding agreement with Chantiers de l’Atlantique, placing orders for two additional World Class vessels worth €3.5 billion (£3 billion).

MSC World Europa America

The ships, set for delivery in 2030 and 2031, will become the seventh and eighth in the line’s futuristic World Class series.

Expanding the World Class Fleet

The announcement was made during a double ceremony at Chantiers de l’Atlantique’s shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, where MSC Cruises also marked the float out of MSC World Asia and the coin ceremony for MSC World Atlantic.

With this latest order, MSC Cruises’ total investment with the French shipbuilder in 2025 alone rises to nearly €7 billion, bringing the company’s total current commitment in France to around €10.5 billion.

“We mark a proud moment today as we celebrate the float out of MSC World Asia, the coin ceremony of MSC World Atlantic, and the order of two new ships,

“The World Class platform is a symbol of our vision to set new standards for the future of cruising. These are among the most energy-efficient ships in the world, and we continue our commitment to LNG while preparing for future renewable fuels.”

Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of MSC Group’s Cruise Division.

French Partnership Strengthened

Chantiers de l’Atlantique General Manager Laurent Castaing welcomed the order, noting that four new MSC ships have been commissioned this year alone – a remarkable achievement for both the shipyard and its longstanding partnership with the cruise line.

“The World Class series, now totalling eight vessels, exemplifies our shared commitment to elevating the passenger experience while advancing environmental performance,” said Castaing.

Construction of the newly ordered World Class 7 and 8 will begin in 2029.

MSC World Europa

The vessels will follow MSC World Europa (2022), MSC World America (2025), MSC World Asia (2026), and MSC World Atlantic (2027).

The next two unnamed ships – World Class 5 and 6 – are due before 2030.

Latest Ship Milestones

The float out of MSC World Asia marks a key stage in the ship’s construction, as she touches water for the first time before entering final outfitting.

Scheduled for delivery in November 2026, the ship will sail seven-night itineraries in the Western Mediterranean, visiting Barcelona, Marseille, Genoa, Rome (Civitavecchia), Messina, and Valletta.

MSC World Europa Yacht Club

Meanwhile, the coin ceremony for MSC World Atlantic took place the same day. The maritime tradition sees commemorative coins placed within the ship’s hull as a symbol of blessing and good fortune.

MSC Cruises’ godmother for the occasion was Lynn Torrent, President of MSC Cruises North America, while Agnès Sahores, Smart Yard Improvement Manager at Chantiers de l’Atlantique, represented the shipbuilder.

MSC World Atlantic will launch in 2027, homeporting in Port Canaveral, Florida, for her debut Caribbean season in winter 2027–28.

The Future of World Class

MSC’s World Class ships are designed as floating destinations, each featuring themed “districts” to suit different moods and experiences – from family zones to adults-only retreats.

The line describes them as “a blend of innovation, elegance and environmental efficiency.”

The two new ships are subject to financing approval, but their addition will solidify MSC Cruises’ position as Europe’s largest cruise brand and one of the fastest-growing operators worldwide.

Royal Caribbean’s 7,600-Passenger Mega Ship is Coming to Galveston

One of the world’s largest cruise ships is officially headed to the Lone Star State. Royal Caribbean announced that Icon of the Seas (technically tied with Star of the Seas in terms of size) will rotate from Miami to Galveston, Texas, starting in August 2027.

Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas
Icon of the Seas at CocoCay, Bahamas

Galveston, Texas is on a roll right now.  The cruise port is growing by leaps and bounds, signaling a strong demand for cruising out of the Texas port.  And with this news, local residents have even more options for cruising.

This deployment is a massive strategic move. Announced just days after a competitor (MSC Cruises) debuted its new vessel in Texas, Royal Caribbean is making the move as well.   Many had been anticipating or at least speculating this would happen, but now it’s official.

Royal Caribbean already has a couple Oasis-class vessels sailing out of the Texas port with Harmony of the Seas there now, and Symphony of the Seas coming in May 2026.   Allure of the Seas will also be coming to Galveston in the spring of 2026 for a handful of sailings.

Icon of the Seas will be the largest ship in port at 250,800 in gross tonnage and a maximum capacity of 7,600 passengers (5,610 at double capacity).

Itineraries and Price

Icon will sail from Galveston on cruises of either 6- or 8-nights in duration.

Itinerary stops will include popular Western Caribbean ports like Roatan and Cozumel. Itineraries will also feature a stop at Royal Caribbean’s private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas.

The cruises will also call at the future Royal Beach Club Cozumel in Mexico, scheduled to debut in 2026.  The location for this new private destination is a perfect fit for cruising out of Texas, so it looks like this has been in the works for a while.

Port of Galveston

The Port of Galveston has been preparing for this move for a while now. The zero-energy Royal Caribbean terminal at Pier 10, which opened in November 2022, was specifically designed with the wider berth and accommodations needed to handle Icon-class ships.  So, it’s not a huge surprise this move was announced.

When the new terminal partnership was announced, Royal Caribbean anticipated the facility would generate a $100 million economic impact and increase guest traffic by 50% within the first year of operation.

Given the premium price and size of Icon of the Seas, the actual economic benefit generated for the Galveston area could be even higher.

To handle the traffic from 6,000 to 7,000+ passengers per sailing, the city is updating its 20-Year Strategic Master Plan with things like adding more lanes at terminals and leveraging traffic data from Waze to manage congestion on cruise days.

Other Ships in Galveston

Just last week MSC Cruises held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their newly arrived ship at the brand new 165,000 square foot Terminal 16.  MSC Seascape is a ship built in 2022, and it is currently offering 7-night, year-round voyages out of the port.

Before this announcement from Royal Caribbean, the largest ship sailing from Texas was Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Jubilee, which is a183,521 gross ton vessel and accommodates a maximum capacity of 6,631 passengers.

By comparison, Icon of the Seas (nearly 250,000 gross tons and 7,600 max guests) is approximately 36% larger and can carry 41% more passengers than Carnival Jubilee.

Other ships currently sailing out of Galveston include Harmony of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Legend, Carnival Dream, Regal Princess, and Disney Magic.

Norwegian Viva is also coming to the port at Terminal 16 in December 2025.

MSC Cruises Is Growing Even Faster; Orders Two More World-Class Ships

MSC Cruises has officially confirmed an order for two new World Class ships with the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France.  The ships will temporarily be named World Class 7 and World Class 8 until their official names are announced.

MSC World America in PortMiami

The order was announced today, and it’s a pretty big deal.  MSC Cruises has been called the fastest growing cruise line, and it seems the company is not slowing down any time soon.

This new and popular series is the largest class in MSC Cruises’ fleet and will put the cruise line at 29 ships when the vessels are delivered.  This not only rivals but matches the total ship count for Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean currently.

Ship Delivery Schedule

World Class 7 and 8 are scheduled to launch in 2030 and 2031. Construction of these ships is scheduled to begin in 2029. This addition of two more ships builds upon recent orders of World Class 5 and 6, which will enter service in 2029 and 2030.

MSC Cruises currently operates two World Class vessels, which are MSC World Europa (launched in 2022) and MSC World America (launched in 2025).

MSC World Asia (coming in 2026) and MSC World Atlantic (coming in 2027) are currently under construction.

About the Ships

These World Class ships are some of the largest cruise ships in the industry.  In fact, Royal Caribbean’s Icon class and Oasis class are the only ships larger in terms of volume with gross tonnage numbers of 248,000 and about 236,000 gross tons respectively.

MSC World Europa and MSC World America have a gross tonnage of around 216,000 and can accommodate up to 6,700 passengers along with about 2,100 crew members on each vessel.

When all eight World Class ships are operating, they will be able to carry over 54,000 passengers at maximum capacity.  Of course, most ships operate closer to double-capacity which is around 5,231 passengers on this class.

A key feature of all MSC World Class ships is their LNG propulsion system, which is designed to reduce CO2 emissions and minimize environmental impact.

Recent Milestones

The announcement was made during major construction milestones for MSC World Asia, which had her float out today, and MSC World Atlantic, which celebrated a traditional maritime coin ceremony as part of its hull construction.

Executive Chairman of MSC Group, Pierfrancesco Vago, stated that the World Class ships are to set the future standards for the company.

“We mark a proud moment today for MSC Cruises and Chantiers de l’Atlantique as we celebrate important milestones for our future – the float out of MSC World Asia, the coin ceremony of MSC World Atlantic and the order of two new ships. The World Class platform is a symbol of our vision to set new standards for the future of cruising. These are some of the most energy efficient ships in the world and we continue our commitment to LNG, ensuring we are ready for future renewable fuels. We look forward to continuing with our innovative and successful collaboration with Chantiers de L’Atlantique – our long-term partner for more than 20 years,”  Vago said.

Investments

With these two new ship orders, MSC Cruises has invested a total of €10.5 billion (about $12 billion USD) in the World Class series.  This shows a lot of confidence in the company’s flagship series, based on positive feedback from cruisers worldwide.

Lynn Torrent, President of MSC Cruises North America, said it was an “honor to bring MSC World Atlantic to life.”

“This ship will build on everything our guests and travel partners love about MSC World America, which has been sailing from Miami since April. We are already planning new spaces and experiences on board that are designed to elevate our blend of European style and American comfort, and we can’t wait to reveal them,” she stated.

Live From Disney Destiny, First Impressions of Disney’s Newest Cruise Ship

Disney Destiny is the newest cruise ship in Disney Cruise Line’s fleet. The ship was christened two days ago at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Disney Destiny
Disney Destiny at Port Everglades. Photo Credit: Cruise Fever

Disney Cruise Line invited Cruise Fever to attend the christening and the first three-day preview cruise on the ship. After spending a day and a half on board the vessel, here are my first impressions of Disney Destiny.

I’ve taken around 90 cruises and this is the best cruise ship for families I’ve ever sailed on.

Ship

This is the first Disney cruise I’ve taken in nine years. I forgot how well Disney does everything, down to the smallest little details on the ship.

From The Haunted Mansion to the Sanctum to the Oceaneer Club, I am loving the themed spaces all around the vessel. But more on those places later.

I love how they play Disney music all around the ship, from the stateroom hallways to the Grand Hall where I am sitting right now.

You can take a photo tour of the ship that we posted on our Facebook page below.

Cabin

We are staying in a Family Balcony Cabin on Deck 11. Since this is my first Disney cruise in nine years, I forgot how nice it is to have a split bathroom when traveling with my family.

The room is extremely spacious and love how it has a curtain to separate the bed from where the kids sleep. The extra privacy is much appreciated.

There is also an abundance of storage space and the best stateroom for families we’ve ever stayed in.

Oceaneer Club

Since I am traveling with my wife and five-year old son, I will focus both on what the ship offers for adults and the amazing activities and spaces for kids.

I have never seen such a large space dedicated for children on a cruise ship. During the open house, I was able to tour the kids club and was blown away. I love the Star Wars Cargo Hold and the Avengers rooms.

Since my son is five, he has yet to watch Star Wars, but I can’t wait to watch my favorite movies with him when he gets a bit older. He LOVES the Star Wars room in the Oceaneer Club.

We went to pick him up from the club one day and the workers told us that they were trying to pry him away from the Star Wars room, he loved it that much.

Also, the slide kids can use to enter the club straight from the Grand Hall is absolutely genius. It’s the only way my son wants to enter it.

You can see 15 photos of this incredible space in the embed below.

Before I wrap up this quick first impressions of the ship, I wanted to briefly mention a few other things about this ship.

Last night, we had dinner at Pride Lands, Feast of the Lion King. This new dinner concept from Disney was incredible and really made dinner go by so fast. They sang all of the songs we love from Lion King and everyone enjoyed it. Tonight we dine at Worlds of Marvel and we can’t wait!

We also attended Disney’s new show Hercules and it’s a must see when sailing on the ship. Tonight is Frozen and we are so excited to see it after Hercules last night.

For those who know me and have been following Cruise Fever for the past 14 years, you probably know I’m not the biggest fan of cruise shows. They generally just don’t interest me much.

However, I love the shows on Disney cruise ships. They are so well done with great storylines that we all know and love.

Also, the crew members have been absolutely incredible so far and have gone above and beyond everyone on the ship.

I am going to go and explore more of this amazing new ship from Disney Cruise Line. We have 24 hours left and I want to make sure I see everything this ship has to offer.

I will have more on Disney Destiny when I get home from this inaugural cruise on Disney Destiny so stay tuned for that.

You can follow along on my cruise on all of Cruise Fever’s social media accounts, we are @CruiseFever on Facebook, Instagram, X and TikTok.

Regent Seven Seas Orders Third Prestige-Class Ship for 2033 Delivery

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd has announced a new ship order with Fincantieri for its ultra-luxury brand Regent Seven Seas Cruises, confirming that a third Prestige-Class vessel will join the fleet in 2033.

Seven Seas Prestige Class Ship

The agreement reinforces the company’s commitment to expanding within the luxury cruise sector and extends its long-standing partnership with the Italian shipbuilder.

Continuing Regent’s Prestige-Class Expansion

The new vessel will follow the debut of Seven Seas Prestige in 2026, and a second ship of the same class in 2030. The Prestige-Class series marks Regent’s first new ship class in a decade, building upon the success of its acclaimed Explorer-Class ships.

“This newbuild order continues our measured, strategic expansion within the luxury space, providing guests with yet another way to experience the unrivalled aboard The World’s Most Luxurious Fleet,”

“It reflects our confidence in the growing demand for Regent’s best-in-class offering and reaffirms our long-standing partnership with Fincantieri, one rooted in craftsmanship and a shared pursuit of perfection.”

Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.

Larger, More Spacious, and Ultra-Luxurious

When Seven Seas Prestige debuts in 2026, it will mark a new era for Regent. The 77,000-gross-ton ship will be 40% larger than the line’s existing vessels but will carry only 10% more guests, maintaining one of the highest space-to-guest and crew-to-guest ratios at sea.

Seven Seas Prestige Atrium

With capacity for 822 guests and 630 crew members, the ship promises even greater personal service and a heightened sense of exclusivity.

Innovative Suites and Refined Design

All accommodation aboard the Prestige-Class ships will feature private balconies, with 12 suite categories, including four entirely new designs.

Seven Seas Prestige suite

These range from the Skyview Regent Suite – the largest all-inclusive, ultra-luxury cruise suite ever built – to the two-level Skyview and Grand Loft Suites.

The ship will also feature 11 distinct dining experiences, offering an extensive global culinary journey curated to reflect Regent’s signature commitment to excellence. A new dining venue concept will be revealed closer to launch.

Strengthening the Luxury Market

The order highlights Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings’ growing investment in the luxury and upper-premium market segments, an area the company has steadily developed through Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises.

The collaboration with Fincantieri also continues a relationship spanning decades, during which the shipyard has delivered several of the group’s most acclaimed vessels.

With all three Prestige-Class ships now on order or under construction, Regent Seven Seas Cruises is positioning itself to strengthen its reputation as “The World’s Most Luxurious Fleet” well into the next decade.

Cruise Excursion Turns to Chaos as Catamaran Sinks in the Dominican Republic

A sightseeing excursion for cruise passengers in the Dominican Republic turned into a terrifying ordeal on Sunday, 9th November 2025, when a tour catamaran suddenly sank off the coast of Samaná Bay, leaving more than 50 guests in the water.

Cruise Guests Rescued After Catamaran Sinks

The 40-foot vessel, Boca de Yuma, began taking on water just minutes after leaving Embat Pier, reportedly following an “internal failure”.

Passengers and crew were forced to abandon ship as the catamaran quickly submerged.

Guests were wearing life jackets as part of standard safety procedures, and nearby vessels responded within minutes.

The Dominican Republic Navy coordinated the rescue, maintaining communication with the sinking boat and dispatching naval craft to assist.

“An excursion catamaran operated by an external provider sank on 9 November 2025 during a shore excursion,” confirmed TUI Cruises in a statement. “All guests are safe and were returned to Mein Schiff 1 immediately after the rescue.”

Videos posted to social media show a chaotic scene, with life rings scattered across the water and passengers spread over a wide area, as only one corner of the catamaran remained visible above the waves.

Calm Seas, Sudden Sinking

According to the navy, the weather was generally calm at the time, though minor choppy conditions were observed.

Authorities said the cause was initially reported as a collision with an unidentified object in the water, which caused the vessel to flood rapidly.

“The captain of the excursion boat immediately contacted other boats in the vicinity and requested assistance,” TUI Cruises said.

All guests and crew were rescued without major injuries, although many were shaken by the experience.

Most passengers were not dressed for swimming, as the tour was intended to be a relaxed coastal sightseeing trip rather than a water-based activity.

Investigation Underway

Officials from the Port of Samaná and the Dominican Republic Navy are now investigating the cause of the sinking and assessing whether the tour operator met all safety and maintenance requirements.

“The Dominican Republic Navy collaborates with local authorities to determine responsibilities and take preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future,” a spokesperson said.

The Mein Schiff 1 had been sailing a 14-night Caribbean itinerary that departed La Romana on 7th November.

The ship’s original route, which included Ocho Rios and Montego Bay in Jamaica, was altered after Hurricane Melissa devastated the island. The unexpected stop in Samaná was part of the revised itinerary.

Guests Continue Cruise After Scare

Following the incident, all passengers involved received medical checks and counselling support onboard.

According to TUI Cruises, every affected guest chose to continue their cruise.

The 111,500-gross-ton Mein Schiff 1 has since resumed its journey towards Cozumel and Costa Maya, with further stops planned in Belize, Roatán, Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia, before returning to La Romana on 21st November.

Previous Excursion Accidents

While rare, shore excursion accidents involving small vessels have occurred before.

In March 2025, a sightseeing boat overturned in Cartagena, Colombia, with 38 cruise guests onboard. All passengers were safely rescued.

In contrast, a far more tragic event unfolded in November 2023, when a double-decked tour boat sank en route to Blue Lagoon Island in the Bahamas, leading to the death of one cruise passenger.

That disaster prompted several cruise lines to temporarily suspend excursions to the island until safety standards were reviewed.
