Carnival Cruise Line Crew Member Termination: A Crew Member Says He Was Forced To Leave With Just One Hour To Pack

Most employees try to make their exits as graceful as possible. But one former Fun Squad member aboard Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Valor says his departure was anything but orderly.

Crew member Trevor Johnson says he submitted his resignation to the cruise line on November 4, 2025, and that he provided the customary two-week notice so the company could arrange a replacement and he could say proper goodbyes.

“I submitted my resignation on November 4th with the intention of leaving on November 20th — giving a full two-week notice,” Johnson wrote in a Facebook post that has gone viral.

“I wanted to allow time for a smooth transition, to help find a replacement, and to say goodbye properly to everyone who had become like family aboard the Valor,” he continued.

According to Johnson, his planned final day was November 20th, 2025 — a turnaround day when the Conquest-class ship was due in her homeport of New Orleans, Louisiana, between Western Caribbean sailings. A November 20th departure would have made getting home to family much easier for the Louisiana resident.

Instead, Johnson says the goodbye came much sooner. On November 12, 2025, while the ship was in Cozumel, Mexico, he says he received a 5:00 a.m. “knock” on his cabin door and was told he needed to disembark that day.

He was reportedly given just one hour to pack his belongings and leave the ship — a sudden instruction that, if accurate, required him to pack up what he described as his entire life at sea.

“How embarrassing and devastating it was to pack up my entire life in just one hour — with no chance to say proper goodbyes to my onboard family, and no time to think,” he recounted.

Johnson thanked HR, the hotel director, and the entertainment director for allowing him a few extra minutes to say goodbye. Still, the early disembarkation left him feeling “humiliated, disrespected, and deeply embarrassed.”

Every Story Has Two Sides

There’s significant chatter on social media and cruise news sites about what led to Trevor Johnson’s early disembarkation. Still, at present, we have only Johnson’s account, and there has been no public response from Carnival.

Carnival Cruise Line has not publicly commented on the situation; the company typically does not discuss personnel matters involving individual crew members.

Why Disembarked In Cozumel?

Disembarking a crew member at the next suitable port of call is standard practice for cruise lines when customs, immigration, and transportation logistics permit repatriation. Ports like Cozumel often have the necessary facilities and flights that allow a crew member to travel home.

That said, a “no notice” or very short-notice disembarkation — such as the one-hour instruction Johnson describes — is more commonly associated with crew members who have been terminated for breach of rules or misconduct, according to industry reporting on crew procedures.

Johnson had planned to depart on November 20th during a turnaround in New Orleans, which would have been convenient for returning home. That makes his early removal in Cozumel seem unusual — unless there was an operational reason, such as a replacement crew member needing the cabin, or a disciplinary issue requiring immediate disembarkation.

Star Princess

Star Princess was officially named and christened by Camila and Matthew McConaughey at a ceremony that took place at Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The night was capped off with a drone show over the port.

Star Princess is the second Sphere class ship from Princess Cruises and will spend the winter season offering cruises to the Caribbean. In the spring of 2026, Star Princess will head to Seattle for the 2026 Alaska season.

Disney Destiny

Disney Destiny was named and christened during an epic ceremony that included a multi-tiered set, drone special effects and scenic projections, alongside a live band and a dozen vocal performers.

Susan Egan, the voice behind Megara in Walt Disney Animation Studios “Hercules”, served as the ship’s godmother and gave the traditional blessing on the ship and all those who sail on her.

Disney Destiny will sail short cruises from Port Everglades to The Bahamas and the Caribbean with the maiden voyage departing on November 20, 2025.

Disney Destiny is the third Wish class ship from Disney Cruise Line.

Oceania Allura’s inaugural season will see the ship visit than 92 destinations on an array of 7- to 34-day cruises, from iconic cities to lesser-known gems.

Sister ship to Oceania Vista, Oceania Allura is the cruise line’s eighth ship. Boasting the most spacious standard staterooms at sea, which measure more than 290 square feet, she is 791 feet (241 meters) long and is more than 67,000 gross tons in size.

With a capacity for 1,200 guests at double occupancy, Oceania Allura has two crew members for every three guests, with half dedicated to culinary operations.

Celebrity Xcel

Celebrity Xcel

Celebrity Cruises’ fifth Edge class ship, Celebrity Xcel, was officially named and christened yesterday by Brazilian chef Janaína Torres at Port Everglades.

The ship debuted on November 9, a four-night cruise to the Caribbean. After a series of media sailings, Celebrity Xcel will spend the 2025-2026 winter season offering seven-night cruises to the Caribbean.

In the summer of 2026, the cruise ship will sail her inaugural season in Europe and sail seven- to 11-night cruises around the Mediterranean.

Cruise Vloggers Banned From Filming After Complaint

Two young cruise YouTubers sailing on P&O Cruises’ Ventura say they were ordered to stop filming their ship-tour content after a fellow guest complained to reception.

Young at Sea cruisers banned from filming on Ventura

Josh and Alfie, the duo behind the Young at Sea YouTube channel, were part-way through a four-night sailing from Southampton to Rotterdam when they were told that further filming could lead to “further action” – something they feared might even result in being banned by Carnival UK.

The pair, who routinely film ship tours in the early hours specifically to avoid capturing other guests, said the complaint left them too nervous to record anything at all.

However, after speaking to customer services again a few hours after their initial warning, they were eventually told they were free to film around the ship as long as they avoided zooming in on passengers – advice they say they already follow as standard practice.

Passenger Reaction: Support, Suspicion and a Call For Privacy

Feedback on the pair’s Facebook post was largely supportive, with many commenters suggesting the complaint may have come from someone who didn’t want to be recognised – possibly, they joked, because they were “on the ship with someone they shouldn’t be”.

Others questioned why P&O Cruises would restrict filming when the line typically embraces social-media coverage.

Ventura-cruise

Several people urged the duo to speak directly to senior management or guest services, arguing that one complaint shouldn’t dictate policy.

A few highlighted that other vloggers had experienced similar issues on different lines, and that cruise companies usually apologised once misunderstandings were cleared up.

Not all comments were in favour: some passengers stressed that being filmed on holiday feels intrusive, with one saying: “Accept that not everyone wants to be filmed by complete strangers and show a bit of respect to your fellow passengers.” Another advised the pair simply to “forget the filming and enjoy the cruise”.

Privacy was a recurring theme. One commenter said: “Film, but don’t show other passengers. I wouldn’t want you filming me… it’s an invasion of my privacy.”

Others, however, questioned where the line is drawn, noting that almost everyone takes photos and videos on board and that a blanket ban would be impossible to enforce.

My Take

Running my own cruise YouTube channel, I’ve personally never been asked to stop filming on a ship – though I do know of a couple of creators who’ve faced similar issues.

To me, the balance between privacy and content creation is clear: people’s right not to be filmed comes first, which is why responsible vloggers head out at the crack of dawn (or earlier…!) to film their ship tours while the decks and venues are empty.

As long as you avoid filming anyone, or edit them out if they happen to appear fleetingly, it’s perfectly possible to create useful, respectful content.

Ship tours are incredibly helpful for travellers researching their next cruise, and they offer cruise lines free, authentic promotion.

Hopefully incidents like this don’t lead to a clampdown on creators altogether – because when handled responsibly, filming on board benefits both passengers and the industry.

First Impressions From Inaugural Sailing Out of Port Everglades

I am currently cruising on a media inaugural sailing for Celebrity Xcel, the newest ship in the Celebrity Cruises fleet.  Even after less than 24 hours on the ship, it’s already my favorite Edge-class vessel. This article will highlight some of my first impressions with more to come in the future.

Having sailed on Edge-class ships before, I was already familiar with the layout of Xcel, but with seven new spaces and places on this 5th Edge vessel, some areas have a totally different vibe.

I’m an invited guest on this inaugural sailing, and as it’s just a 2-day trip, I’m getting a very condensed experience.  Still, I’ve been running around the ship to get as many pictures and videos as possible for all of our Cruise Fever fans to check out.

If you haven’t already done so, be sure to check out our photo tour of the ship in the Facebook post below:

The Bazaar

I’ll start with the more transformative part of the ship that was completely redefined.  The Bazaar experience begins before you ever walk into the reimagined space.

The entrance to the Bazaar really sets the tone for one of four festivals: Carnival, Aqua, Viva, and Flora. The walkway is filled with offset LED archways that display the festival for the day as the light bounces off the reflective walls.

But besides the optical immersion that almost forces you to meander through the entrance, it was the actual smell that grabbed my attention the most. Celebrity Cruises crafted a unique scent for each festival, and it fills the air as you walk through the colorful arches.

I found the smells so amazing I’m tempted to ask if I can purchase them in a bottle to bring back home (which I’m sure is not even a thing by the way).

After walking through a deep and vibrant red area with a more neutral scent, affectionally known as the pallet cleanse, the colors of the Bazaar begin to emerge.

The Bazaar on Celebrity Xcel

Huge LED screen archways, walls, and curved structures reflect the festival and illuminate the entire area. There is plenty of comfortable seating, and I’m actually sitting at the top part of the Bazaar right now, overlooking the gigantic, multi-deck, triangular windows that provide that iconic aft view.

The all-new Spice Café, on the port side of the ship in the Bazaar, has been a huge hit for me already. Amazing selections of culinary treats, coffees, and specialty drinks are available. But my favorite part is the enclosed seating area. It’s like a little solarium where you can sit and enjoy some good eats. On other Edge-class ships this area was outside and not as easily accessible.

This whole area has always been a favorite spot of mine. I love the design of the sloped walkway along the glass, the multi-level platforms and the comfy seating areas. “Pop-up” entertainment takes places in the Bazaar all throughout the day, so you never know what will happen next if you just want to hang out and enjoy the ocean views for a while.

Market at the Bazaar is a really cool concept as well. Celebrity has partnered with local artisans to sell their products and goods, helping local communities based on the theme for the festival and the destination of the ship. You will see these products on the way to the Bazaar (outside of Blu), and Celebrity even stated allowing local artisans onto the ship to sell their crafted goods when the ship is in port.

The Club

The Club on Celebrity Xcel

Another area I really enjoyed, the Club is kind of a multi-purpose space that always has something going on. Whether it’s virtual projection games on the main floor of the two-deck lounge, some escape room type activities, or even some complementary throwback arcade games, it’s just a fun space.

Playing darts was really cool too. Cameras around the dart board can see where your darts hit and add the points automatically. There are several types of games you can play, and you can add several players for a game. There are even memes that pop up depending on how good or terrible your dart throw went.

Other games included NBA Jam, Golden Tee, Shuffleboard, Pac-man, and some game stations that had multiple arcade games on them. This space is open 24/7 and dedicated to adults with no extra charge for any of the games.

The Annex is now accessible from the top level of the Club (instead of the entrance being near the back stairwell), and this allows cruisers to rent the space for golf simulation, and a ton of other simulation games on the big screen. Parties can even reserve the space to watch a big game and have all the food they want brought right to them.

The Club is always very busy at night with live music, shows, and all kinds of other activities, so cruisers will want to watch the daily schedule for events.

The Food

Spice Cafe seating area on Celebrity Xcel
Spice Cafe seating area on Celebrity Xcel

Food is so subjective on a cruise ship I always hesitate to even bring it up. But I’ve always been impressed with the quality and variety Celebrity offers.

As I already mentioned, the treats at Spice Café were delicious, but it’s Oceanview Café that blows me away. This isn’t your normal cruise ship buffet.

Whether it’s freshly baked bread (that you can see being made), specialty coffee that is ready almost as fast as you order it, or just a huge variety of not-your-run-of-the-mill foods, Oceanview Café is always a great option. And those floor to ceiling views on the starboard side are a feast for the eyes as your body enjoys another kind of feast.

I ate at the all-new BORA restaurant last night as well and really enjoyed the Mediterranean cuisine. The al fresco restaurant is adjacent to Rooftop Garden and has always been one of my favorite areas on Edge class. By the way, the flatbread that comes before the meal at BORA… wow!

BORA has a boozy brunch as well that sounds so perfect too. We’re talking French toast with ice cream and all kinds of other options.

I will be eating at Le Petit Chef tonight, so I’m really excited to see how that little animated chef will prepare my meal right in front of me.

The Cabin

Cabin on Celebrity Xcel

My cabin is on deck 12, which I find to be the perfect deck for me. It’s one deck below the Resort Deck where you will find both the pool and Oceanview Café.

This cabin has an infinite veranda that just makes the room feel much more spacious. I love how it feels like a personal solarium when the window is closed and how private it feels compared to a standard balcony. Every cruiser has had that moment when a neighbor’s private conversation was not so private. The design of an infinite veranda insulates sound a lot better.

The blinds shut out the light very well, but if you want to peek out to see if the sun is up or not it’s not as easy as peeling back a curtain. Still, I prefer this style of balcony, knowing not every cruiser has this taste.

The shower area is nice and spacious as well, and the water pressure has been fantastic.  The nice solid glass shower door is much appreciated, and the Celebrity shower gel and shampoo is wonderful in my opinion.

Only one side of the bed has some power outlets, and I do wish both sides had this, but it’s not a huge deal.

Overall, the cabin has been a welcome place to call home for 2 days, and my cabin steward has been attentive and friendly.

The Spa

Thermal suite spa on Celebrity Xcel

Edge-class ships have some of the best spas and thermal suites in the cruise industry. Celebrity Xcel has made a few improvements on an already great space.

More comfortable seating has been added to that forward outside space at the spa (Vitamin D Deck), and an all-new Hydro Soak room has been added for some lounging in relaxing hot water.

Celebrity cruisers love the heated tile loungers that face the forward windows and soak in sunlight, and this ship has not disappointed. There are also several saunas with different aromas and therapies, a salt room, a dry sauna that has a great forward view, and an incredible rainfall water therapy room, where you can walk through the different scents.

Overall

Rooftop Garden on Celebrity Xcel
Rooftop Garden on Celebrity Xcel

Even after just one day it’s impossible to squeeze in every perspective I have on this ship.  But the premium feel of this vessel is palpable. Celebrity has taken the input from guests on other Edge-class ships and adapted Xcel to meet these desires. It’s all about attention to detail, and this ship seems to have hit the sweet spot for cruisers who want a more elevated experience.

There’s a lot more I can say, but I only have the rest of today to enjoy this ship.  So, if you excuse me, I think I will grab a pistachio cannoli and enjoy some ocean views.

Oceania Cruises Christens Newest Ship, Oceania Allura™

Oceania Cruises®, the world’s leading culinary- and destination-focused luxury cruise line, last night christened its newest ship, Oceania Allura™, with a dazzling Miami pierside ceremony, culminating in a first-of-its-kind godparent christening.

Acclaimed chefs Tavel Bristol-Joseph, Katie Button, Calvin Eng, Aisha Ibrahim, George Mendes and Lawrence “LT” Smith had the honor of representing the prestigious Food & Wine Best New Chefs franchise as godparents during the christening ceremony with the time-honored tradition of breaking a Champagne bottle across the ship’s bow, bestowing good fortune on Oceania Allura and all who sail aboard her.

The fanfare commenced with a ship-wide cocktail reception and an exquisite dinner before moving to the pier for the ceremony and heartfelt remarks from dignitaries, including the line’s Chief Luxury Officer, Jason Montague, and Chief Commercial Officer, Nathan Hickman, as well as Food & Wine publisher Tom Bair. Guests then rejoined the ship for a three-day celebratory round-trip Miami voyage.

The event brimmed with esteemed guests, including past godmothers Giada De Laurentiis (godmother of Oceania Vista®), Cat Cora (godmother of Oceania Riviera™), and Claudine Pépin (godmother of Oceania Sirena™ and daughter of the luxury cruise line’s first Executive Culinary Director, the renowned Chef Jacques Pépin).

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to officially welcome Oceania Allura to our fleet,” said Jason Montague, Chief Luxury Officer of Oceania Cruises. “It is only fitting that she be christened in our hometown of Miami – a city that embodies vibrancy and sophistication. We are deeply honored to celebrate this momentous occasion alongside her distinguished godparents, marking a new chapter in our historic collaboration with Food & Wine.”

Tom Bair, publisher of Food & Wine, added: “This is the beginning of an inspiring partnership between Food & Wine and Oceania Cruises. We both share a simple but powerful belief: that excellence never goes out of style. For decades, we’ve each stood for craftsmanship, for creativity and for a deep respect for the culinary world – past, present and future. By naming Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs franchise as godparent of this beautiful ship, Oceania Cruises celebrates the future of dining. These chefs are innovators – redefining how we experience food – and now they’ll bring that creativity to the sea.”

Oceania Allura’s Inaugural Season sailings span more than 92 destinations on an array of 7- to 34-day voyages, from iconic cities to lesser-known gems. With a capacity for 1,200 guests at double occupancy, Oceania Allura has two crew members for every three guests, with half dedicated to culinary operations.

Among the 12 onboard dining experiences is the glamorous Grand Dining Room, featuring 270 new recipes across all three meal services, and the Crêperie, a completely new concept for the line, offering a selection of tempting French crêpes, Bruxelles waffles, and bubble waffles, alongside gelato sundaes.

In addition, the cruise line reprises its original French restaurant, Jacques, named for Chef Pépin. The menu for the new iteration of this much-loved dining venue is a collaboration between Chef Pépin himself and the line’s current Executive Culinary Directors and Master Chefs of France, Alexis Quaretti and Eric Barale, blending new flavors with well-loved dishes that have been guest favorites since Jacques was first introduced aboard Oceania Marina™ when the ship launched.

Cruiser Kicked Off Royal Caribbean Ship Following Altercation

A holiday at sea ended abruptly for one Australian traveller after he was ordered off a cruise ship in New Zealand following an onboard altercation.

Royal Caribbean internet packages

The man’s family remained on the vessel as he was told to leave and arrange his own way home.

Passenger Removed After Mid-Voyage Assault

The incident occurred on Wednesday night when a 44-year-old Australian passenger became involved in a confrontation with another man onboard.

According to local authorities, the situation escalated and the Australian guest allegedly struck the other passenger at around 9.30pm.

Police were notified and were waiting at Port Chalmers, near Dunedin, when the ship arrived the following morning.

Anthem of the Seas

Officers boarded, spoke to those involved and issued the man with a formal warning for assault.

The police confirmed that, following their intervention, the cruise line exercised its right to exclude the passenger from the remainder of the voyage.

This meant that while the man’s travelling companions continued their holiday as planned, he was forced to disembark immediately and make his own arrangements to return to Australia.

The other man involved in the altercation received treatment onboard for a minor injury to his nose.

The incident reportedly occurred on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas.

Follows String of Cruise Removals

There have been several cruise ship removals in the past couple of weeks that have caught the attention of the cruising world.

In another case earlier this month, two guests were removed from Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas after a late-night brawl broke out in the ship’s smoking area.

Footage shared to social media appeared to show the passengers – part of a group cruise for streamers – fighting after a heated dispute.

The fight reportedly began over a mutual friend of the guests and escalated quickly, prompting Royal Caribbean security to detain those involved until the ship reached its next port.

The guests were removed from the ship at the next port, although further footage seems to show the two acting friendly and embracing their unusual position, waving the ship off.

Carnival Crew Member Removed in Port

Even more recently, a Carnival Cruise Line entertainment crew member was unexpectedly removed from Carnival Valor in Cozumel, Mexico, after submitting his resignation ahead of the end of his contract.

Trevor Johnson, a member of the Fun Squad, claimed in a now-viral social media post that he had handed in his resignation on 4th November, intending to finish work on 20th November to allow for a smooth handover.

Instead, he said he was woken by “a 6:00 a.m. knock” and told he had one hour to pack before being escorted off the ship.

Johnson described the abrupt departure as “embarrassing and devastating”, saying he had no chance to say goodbye to colleagues and was left to navigate onward travel alone in a foreign port.

His account triggered widespread debate among former and current crew online. Many noted that cruise ship contracts operate differently from land-based jobs: resigning mid-contract often triggers immediate removal, with companies permitted to sign off crew at the next approved port.

Cruise Lines Tighten Conduct Enforcement

Cruise lines have become increasingly strict about onboard behaviour, especially as passenger volumes have surged in recent years.

While most cruises remain peaceful, isolated cases of misconduct are promptly dealt with by ship security and, when necessary, local authorities.

For the Australian passenger now stranded in New Zealand, that means an abrupt end to his family holiday – and an expensive, solitary flight home.

Princess Cruises Unveils Largest-Ever Caribbean Season With New Celebration Key Calls

Princess Cruises is preparing for a record-breaking Caribbean deployment for winter 2027–28, revealing an extensive line-up of sailings, new ports, and expanded Panama Canal options.

Carnival Celebration Key

The programme, which is now open for bookings, will run from October 2027 to April 2028.

An Expanded Caribbean Programme Across Five Homeports

The 2027–28 season marks the most ambitious Caribbean schedule ever released by Princess, both in size and variety. Highlights include:

  • 187 departures across the seven-month period
  • Five US homeports: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, New York, and San Juan
  • Nine ships sailing the region, including the latest Sphere-class vessels Star Princess and Sun Princess
  • 43 different itineraries, ranging from short four-night escapes to 15-night voyages
  • 31 ports of call, covering 22 distinct Caribbean islands

“We’re incredibly excited to bring our guests an expanded Caribbean season filled with more of what they love – sun-soaked destinations, immersive experiences, and the elegance of our two newest Sphere-class ships,”

Jim Berra, Princess Cruises’ Chief Commercial Officer.

Princess Strengthens Its Panama Canal Leadership

Princess Cruises, already the industry leader for Panama Canal transits, is further ramping up its canal schedule between 2026 and 2028.

Princess Panama Canal

Five ships will sail a collection of partial and full-transit itineraries:

  • Star Princess
  • Caribbean Princess
  • Island Princess
  • Coral Princess
  • Emerald Princess

One of the most notable voyages is Star Princess’ first Panama Canal transit, departing 13th April 2026.

The 20-night repositioning cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Seattle includes a full passage through the canal and visits to Aruba, Mazatlán, Cabo San Lucas, and Los Angeles. The sailing leads directly into the ship’s maiden Alaska season.

Other canal cruises will depart from Port Canaveral, Los Angeles, and Vancouver, giving travellers a broad choice of departure points and voyage lengths.

Princess Ships to Call at Celebration Key

A major addition to the 2026–27 and 2027–28 programmes is Princess Cruises’ debut at Celebration Key, Carnival Corporation’s new private destination in the Bahamas.

Starfish Lagoon Beach Celebration Key

Originally designed for exclusive use by Carnival Cruise Line, the destination’s popularity has led to a wider rollout across the corporation’s brands.

“Celebration Key is an extraordinary destination oasis and adding it to our itineraries gives guests even more ways to savour the Caribbean,” Berra said.

Attractions at Celebration Key include:

  • Paradise Plaza, the island’s lively welcome hub
  • Starfish Lagoon, designed for families
  • Pearl Cove Beach Club, an adults-only retreat
  • Over 30 dining and bar venues
  • Live music, beach lounges, Bahamian art, and a broad mix of activities

Princess ships scheduled to call at Celebration Key include Sky Princess, Sun Princess, Regal Princess, Caribbean Princess, Enchanted Princess, and Star Princess.

Sailings Across the Caribbean’s Best-Loved Destinations

Depending on the itinerary, guests will also visit ports such as Grand Turk, Belize, Cozumel, St Thomas, St Maarten, and many more.

Cruises range from four to sixteen nights, with options to combine sailings for extended back-to-back holidays.

With a greater choice of ships, itineraries, and destinations than ever before, Princess Cruises’ 2027–28 Caribbean season offers a wide range of holidays for first-time cruisers and loyal guests alike.

Princess Cruises announced new cruises to the Caribbean that include the cruise line visiting Celebration Key in The Bahamas for the first time.

Celebration Key with 2 Carnival cruise ships
Up until now, only Carnival cruise ships have been scheduled to visit Celebration Key, a new port built by Carnival Corporation on Grand Bahama Island.

Currently, only Carnival cruise ships visit the new port in The Bahamas that opened this past July. That will all change next year when Regal Princess visits the port on November 9, 2026.

Four other Princess ships, Caribbean Princess, Enchanted Princess, Sky Princess and Sun Princess, will also visit Celebration Key on sailings in 2026-2028.
