Princess Cruises Adds New Ports to Cruises in the Mediterranean

Princess Cruises has added new ports of call to cruises on Sun Princess in the Mediterranean that set sail in 2026 and 2027.

Sun Princess at Port Everglades

The new ports have been added to 16 seven-night cruises on the ship between April 4, 2026 and October 17, 2026.

These cruises immerse travelers in the region’s most captivating cities, villages, and coastlines.

With thoughtfully curated shore excursions and even select overnight stays, guests can experience the Mediterranean with more depth and authenticity than ever before.

The newly added ports on voyages on Sun Princess are:

  • Corsica (Ajaccio)
  • Genoa (for Cinque Terre)
  • Marseille (for Provence)
  • Mallorca, Spain
  • Ibiza, Spain
  • Santa Margherita/Portofino, Italy

Port visits to La Spezia, Italy (for Pisa and Florence) on select cruises will be an overnight stop and the ship will spend two days in the port.

Princess Cruises has removed a stop to Gibraltar to allow for these enhanced experiences.

Sun Princess is the currently the newest cruise ship in Princess’ fleet. It’s the first in a new Sphere class from the cruise line and also the largest Princess ship at 175,000 gross tons.

What’s the Most Beautiful Cruise Ship at Sea? Cruisers Debate in Viral Post

When cruisers debate the most beautiful cruise ships ever built, very particular tastes and perspectives get thrown around. After all, so much about cruising is subjective.

Just ask a group of cruise lovers which cruise line is best, and you will see that.

A recent thread on Reddit’s community showed exactly how diverse these opinions can be, with certain ships coming up as clear favorites.

The simple question “What is the most beautiful cruise ship/ocean liner?” was the title of this post that quickly shot up the ranks.

Most beautiful cruise ships

Earlier this week, another Reddit post about the ugliest ships at sea was also making the rounds when this post about the most beautiful ships began resonating and picking up over 150 comments.

Classic Elegance: Disney Cruise Line

Few cruise brands have as loyal a fanbase as Disney Cruise Line. Many comments in the post praised ships like Disney Wish and Disney Fantasy for their art-deco-inspired lines, dark hulls, and signature gold detailing.

Unlike most modern cruise ships that some say look more like floating resorts, Disney vessels deliberately remind travelers of the classic era of cruise travel.

As one commenter put it, Disney ships “exude old luxury with a Disney twist,” and fans mentioned how the cruise line does a good job of maintaining their ships.

The Ocean Liner: Queen Mary 2

Perhaps no ship received more praise than Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 (QM2). Unlike standard cruise ships, QM2 was purpose-built as an ocean liner, designed with a sleek hull and that classic look.

Passengers consider it “the last true ocean liner,” admired for lines that set it apart from today’s balcony-filled ships.

Others placed Queen Victoria in a similar category for having that ship-like balance of form and function.

Historic Ships

For traditionalists, modern cruise ships just don’t compare to historic vessels. Ships like the SS Normandie, SS United States, MV Kungsholm, and MS Oslofjord were mentioned in the comments for their timeless elegance.

Though many have been scrapped or retired, their nostalgia factor is strong.  Several comments mentioned sailing on classics like Aurora or Marco Polo, saying that this kind of style is nowhere to be found on today’s ships.

Modern Cruise Ship Mentions

Celebrity Cruises Edge

Still, many of today’s modern ships were mentioned for their beauty and elegance.  The following ships were repeatedly mentioned in the post.

  • Celebrity Edge and Solstice Class were praised for modern architecture that still manages to look sleek.
  • Royal Caribbean’s older Radiance and Voyager classes were still loved for their balanced design, while some said newer giant ships were “blocky apartment complexes.”
  • Norwegian’s Viva and Prima classes earned some love for bold hull artwork and futuristic lines.
  • Princess Cruises drew attention for interior elegance and a great exterior design.
  • Virgin Voyages divided the crowd: some loved their sleek gray-and-red hulls, while others thought they were too militaristic or unconventional.

Smaller Ships

Ships don’t have to be giants to be beautiful. Many argued that vessels with sails—like Windstar ships or Star Clipper—offer beauty and elegance on the water.

“Anything with sails is more beautiful than anything without,” one commenter said.

Small luxury ships like Regent Splendor, and Explora Journeys vessels (starting with Explora I) also were mentioned for their balance, symmetry, and perfect size.

Mega-Ships: The Key Debate

One of the strongest themes from the many comments was criticism of modern mega-ships. Many users called these new ships “floating cities”, with some referring to them as “horizontal skyscrapers” or “apartment blocks on water.” While a few admired the look of ships like MSC World Europa, most agreed that sheer size doesn’t necessarily equal beauty.

The Subjective Answer

In the end, one simple comment put it perfectly in my opinion: “The most beautiful ship is the one you’re on.” Whether you prefer the regal Queen Mary 2, the nostalgic fantasy of a Disney ship, or the intimate elegance of a smaller luxury vessel, beauty is in the eye of the cruiser.

Harmony-of-the-Seas-Royal-Caribbean.jpg

Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas to Add Over 90 Cabins, According to One Estimate

Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas is set to get “Royal Amplified” this spring.

While the 6,780 max capacity ship is set to receive all kinds of new amenities, a major highlight of the drydock will be the addition of at least 91 new staterooms, to add to its current 2,747 cabins.

Harmony of the Seas, Royal Caribbean

According to estimates by Cruise Industry News, the 2016-built vessel is expected to re-enter service next May with over 90 cabins that will replace some of the ship’s other areas. One of the goals of this dry dock is to give the ship a little face-lift while also adding some new public spaces and amenities.

The new staterooms will reportedly be placed across several decks, repurposing existing spaces:

  • Deck 3 will see 29 new inside cabins replace the ship’s current conference center.
  • Decks 14 and 15 will gain 29 new guest accommodations, including a mix of inside and balcony cabins, taking over the area previously used by the Wonderland specialty restaurant.
  • Deck 6 will feature five new cabins, created from a portion of the Vitality Café.
  • Deck 14 will also be home to nearly 30 additional staterooms, which will replace part of the Adventure Ocean kids’ club and a section of the adults-only Solarium deck. These additions will comprise a variety of inside staterooms, larger ocean-view rooms, suites, and balcony cabins.
  • Deck 17 will see a unique change, with two duplex suites being combined into a single, large stateroom.

Harmony of the Seas is scheduled to enter drydock in early April, after a repositioning sailing to Europe.  After the dry dock the ship will offer Western Mediterranean voyages for the summer of 2026.

Besides the estimated increase in cabin count, the refit will introduce a few other features:

Casino Royale will be expanded, which is set to become the largest on any Royal Caribbean ship. And dining options will include the introduction of Samba Grill, a Brazilian-style steakhouse.

The ship will also welcome the Pesky Parrot Bar, a tropical-themed venue that first debuted on Utopia of the Seas in 2024. This bar will replace the ship’s Bionic Bar on Deck 6.

The addition of 91 staterooms on Harmony of the Seas has not been officially stated in a report by Royal Caribbean but is an estimate based on Cruise Industry News findings and available deck plans provided by the cruise line.

Carnival-Loyalty-Perk-within-reach-after-offer.jpg

Why Some Carnival Fans Are Scrambling to Get Lifetime Loyalty Status After Surprise Offer

Following a recent policy change that offers lifetime Diamond status to its top-tier guests, some of Carnival Cruise Line’s most dedicated fans are scrambling to book cruises.  The reason? A targeted promotional offer a lot are talking about online.

Some are seeing this offer as their last and best chance to secure a permanent spot at the very top of the loyalty ladder.

Carnival Loyalty Perk within reach after offer

A screenshot going around on Reddit shows an email with the headline “LEVEL-UP YOUR FUN” and the subheading “PLAYERS CLUB BOOST YOUR VIFP GAME.” The offer promises:

  • 3X VIFP days earned on booked cruises using the promotion
  • Free balcony drinks for the guest and a companion
  • $200 FunPlay casino credit

The title of the post stated “I might actually be able to reach diamond for life”.

Strong Community Reaction

On the r/CarnivalCruiseFans subreddit, the comments quickly filled up with cruisers wanting to take advantage of this offer. Some users described racing to book with one comment stating, “Carnival website is down, probably people rushing to book lol.”

The original poster who started the thread wrote:

“I’m currently 48 days away from getting over 200. With this offer that’s just two 7-day cruises and one 3-day. I had accepted that it wasn’t possible so seeing this email pop up got me so excited lol.”

One comment added, “We’re booked. Even our vacation planner’s system was crashing… ALSO, she confirmed everyone in the room gets double/triple points as long as the person booking has the offer.”

For cruisers just short of Diamond with the VIFP program, the triple-points opportunity suddenly makes reaching Diamond a possibility.

But it should be noted that they will have to reach Diamond status by May 31, 2026.

One user noted, “I don’t have this one. I have to 2xs. But everybody got that one.” And another expressed their frustration at not being closer to the goal, saying, “I’m just getting to Platinum… I really wish I had a little more time to get diamond. If I could get triple points I would book enough cruises between now and then to get diamond.”

Lifetime Diamond Status

Carnival just recently announced that passengers who get to Diamond level will now hold it permanently.  Previously, they would only receive Diamond status for six years.

When the cruise line first rolled out the loyalty program changes, members were concerned about losing status because Carnival shifted from days-at-sea to a spend-based model, similar to how airlines handle their loyalty programs.

Current Diamond perks include priority boarding and tendering, complimentary laundry, recognition gifts, a free cabin upgrade, exclusive events, and special booking assistance.

Getting those perks for life has become the ultimate goal for many loyal Carnival cruisers.

A Divided Reaction

Not everyone was thrilled. Some mentioned the short promotional window, requiring cruises by February in some email details.

Others were skeptical about the campaign’s timing given Carnival’s recent explanation that having “too many Platinum and Diamond members” was straining the program.

Still, for many passengers, getting a last-minute chance into Carnival’s top tier has created a real sense of urgency. As one member summed it up:

“I might need to rearrange my life to make this happen if it means I can lock in Diamond for life.”

Cruise Guest Dies in Fall From Hiking Trail in Juneau

A cruise passenger has sadly lost his life following a fall from the popular Mount Roberts trail overlooking Juneau, Alaska.

Juneau in Alaska

The accident happened on Tuesday, 16th September 2025.

Tragic Incident in Juneau

Authorities were alerted after 8 pm, when Alaska State Troopers received word that two hikers were in distress.

The men had been trekking along the steep Mount Roberts trail, a challenging route known for its sweeping views of the city and cruise port below.

Both men reportedly slipped from the trail and slid down the rugged mountainside.

Rescue crews from Juneau Mountain Rescue were able to reach one man, who sustained only minor injuries.

The second hiker, identified as 36-year-old Britain Pool of Texas, had fallen further.

Despite extensive efforts involving drones and specialist search equipment, he was found deceased from his injuries. His next of kin have been informed.

While both men were confirmed to be cruise passengers, the ship they were sailing on has not been identified.

Four vessels were in port that day – Viking Venus, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Encore, and Caribbean Princess.

Previous Hiking Fatality This Summer

This is the second fatal accident involving cruise guests hiking near Juneau this year.

In early July, 62-year-old Marites Buenafe from Kentucky fell while on a trail in the same area.

Port of Juneau in Alaska

A large search-and-rescue operation was launched, and her body was later located 1,700 feet below the route she had set out to hike.

The Mount Roberts trail, which climbs more than 3,800 feet in elevation over 4.5 miles, is considered demanding even for experienced hikers.

Conditions such as slick mud, uneven terrain, and steep drop-offs can make the route especially hazardous, particularly after heavy rainfall.

Hiking Safety in Alaska

Alaska’s scenic trails are a major draw for cruise visitors, offering once-in-a-lifetime views and encounters with local wildlife. However, safety should always be the top priority.

Experts recommend hikers bring essential safety gear even for short walks, including beacon lights or emergency signalling equipment, to aid rescuers in case of an accident.

Guests are also advised to assess their fitness and hiking experience before attempting challenging routes.

Royal Caribbean Brings Forward Debut of Legend of the Seas

Guests keen to experience Royal Caribbean’s forthcoming Legend of the Seas will now have the chance to step aboard earlier than expected.

Legend of the Seas

The cruise line has confirmed that construction is ahead of schedule, allowing three additional inaugural sailings to be added for July 2026.

Three New Showcase Cruises Announced

“The ship is progressing ahead of schedule,” Royal Caribbean said. “As a result of this early completion, we’ve added three new sailings to our inaugural season showcase departing on 11th, 18th & 25th July 2026.”

The vessel will begin her inaugural season in the Mediterranean, with the first official sailing now departing on 11th July 2026 from Civitavecchia (Rome).

This 7-night cruise will visit Naples, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, and Marseille.

Guests already booked on the previously planned inaugural voyage of 2nd August 2026 have been given first choice of whether to transfer to one of the earlier sailings, add an extra sailing, or remain on their current booking.

Royal Caribbean noted that inaugural sailings are often special occasions featuring commemorative events and souvenirs, so this flexibility ensures loyal guests are not disadvantaged.

Price Protection for Suite Guests

For suite passengers who wish to move to the 11th July sailing, full price protection is being offered if they make the change before 24th September 2025.

Transfers to the 18th or 25th July departures will be at the prevailing rate and subject to availability.

Guests in other cabin categories – interior, oceanview, or balcony – may also transfer, though again at the prevailing fare.

Shipyard Progress

Legend of the Seas is currently under construction at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland, the same yard responsible for Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas.

Legend of the Seas float out

The vessel was floated out on 29th August 2025, a key milestone marking the completion of the hull and the start of interior outfitting.

The 248,000-gross-ton ship will be the third in the Icon class and will introduce fresh features alongside Royal Caribbean favourites.

Earlier Debuts Not Unusual

While cruise lines aim to set accurate timelines for new ships, schedules are not fixed in stone.

When Star of the Seas was completed more quickly than anticipated, Royal Caribbean added four earlier showcase sailings, with her first official cruise departing on 16th August 2025.

It is possible further preview sailings could still be added for Legend of the Seas before her full debut.

Guests are encouraged to keep an eye on updates, as new sailings are expected to sell out quickly given the excitement surrounding the ship’s launch.

Pool-and-hot-tub-in-the-Nordic-Spa-Judi-Cohen-scaled.jpeg

A Nordic Oasis At Sea

If you’re searching for a cruise that goes beyond sightseeing and helps you feel relaxed, renewed, and reconnected, look no further than the Viking spa experience aboard Viking’s Ocean ships—particularly the stunning Viking Jupiter that I have cruised aboard in the Baltic and in Europe. Unlike many luxury cruise lines where spa access comes at a premium, Viking invites you into its Scandinavian-style LivNordic Spa and Fitness Center for free.

Yes, free!

A Unique Wellness Retreat at Sea

Step aboard any Viking Ocean cruise and you’ll immediately notice a sense of calm. That tranquil atmosphere carries through on Deck 1, where the ship’s full-service Nordic spa sits quietly at the forward end of the ship. With soothing earthy tones, warm lighting, and soft ambient music, it’s easy to forget you’re aboard a moving vessel.

The spa’s design reflects Viking’s Scandinavian roots, clean lines, natural materials, and a deep focus on wellness. It’s a space that feels more like a luxury retreat than a typical cruise ship amenity. And the best part? Access to the core spa features is completely complimentary for all guests.

What’s Included in the free Viking Spa

Viking makes wellness accessible by offering full access to its thermal suite without charging extra, a rarity in the world of cruising. Here’s what you can enjoy as often as you like, without spending a dime:

  • Hydrotherapy Pool: This mineral-rich warm pool includes underwater benches and a faux fireplace on the deck, offering a tranquil yet elegant space to unwind.
  • Eucalyptus Steam Room: Detoxifying, deeply warming, and great for easing travel tension.
  • Finnish Sauna: A traditional dry sauna to help soothe muscles and clear the mind.
  • Cold Plunge Pool: Dip into the icy waters to stimulate circulation and invigorate your body.
  • Snow Grotto: Exclusive to Viking ships, this surreal sub-zero room filled with softly falling snowflakes delivers the cold phase of the traditional Nordic spa cycle.
  • Heated Tile Loungers: Recline on ergonomically designed ceramic loungers and let gentle warmth soothe you.
  • Relaxation Lounges: Inside the spa and in the changing areas, guests can enjoy quiet spaces with sea views, showers, and lockers.

The LivNordic Spa Ritual: A Signature Viking Experience

At the heart of the Viking spa is a traditional Nordic thermal ritual that alternates between hot and cold environments, a practice designed to rejuvenate the body and improve circulation. If you’ve never tried this method before, it may sound intense, but it’s incredibly rewarding. Full step by step instructions are available at the spa reception desk.

Judi Cohen chilling in the Snow GrottoJudi Cohen chilling in the Snow Grotto

Start in the steam room or sauna, followed by a plunge into cold water or a few moments in the Snow Grotto. Then, relax on a heated lounger and repeat. It’s a deeply refreshing cycle that leaves you feeling energized and balanced.

I was hesitant at first, especially when faced with the cold splash bucket and the snow-covered grotto. But after a few rounds, I felt more awake, alert, and surprisingly serene.

Optional Spa Services: Treatments and Salon

While the main spa areas are free to use, Viking also offers a full menu of premium spa services that can be booked for an additional fee. These include:

  • Massages vary from Swedish to deep tissue and signature therapies like the Nordic Restart (an 80-minute ritual featuring a cranberry body scrub, massage, and warm oil scalp treatment).
  • I tried the HydraFacial, a gentle but powerful treatment that left my skin smooth and glowing, and there are multiple options for facials.
  • Body Wraps, Scrubs, and Rituals are influenced by Scandinavian traditions.
  • Salon Services including haircuts, color, blowouts, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and more, are available in the onboard salon just next to the spa.

Pro tip: Book spa treatments early, either online before your trip or as soon as you board. Appointments can fill up quickly, especially on sea days.

Fitness at Sea: More Than Just a gym

Wellness aboard Viking Jupiter extends beyond the spa. The ship also features a modern fitness center with ocean views, equipped with:

  • Treadmills and elliptical machines
  • Free weights and resistance machines
  • Yoga mats and stretch areas

Complimentary group fitness classes such as yoga, stretching, or light cardio are offered regularly. Private training sessions are available for an extra fee if you’re looking for personalized guidance.

I joined a morning stretch class with a view of the open sea—it was the perfect way to wake up and start the day feeling aligned and refreshed.

Outdoor Relaxation Spaces: Aquavit Terrace and Main Pool

When you need a little fresh air, Viking offers serene outdoor spots ideal for unwinding. On the Aquavit Terrace, you’ll find an infinity pool and hot tub with panoramic views of the ship’s wake—an especially magical place at sunrise.

The Main Pool Area, located midship under a retractable roof, offers a larger pool and hot tub, making it a cozy retreat no matter the weather. Whether you’re sunbathing, reading, or enjoying a cocktail, these spaces add to the ship’s overall feeling of relaxed luxury.

Final Thoughts: Wellness as a Way of Life on Viking Cruises

Whether you’re a spa enthusiast or someone just looking to unwind on vacation, Viking offers a uniquely inclusive approach to onboard wellness.

All Viking Ocean ships are built identically, so you can expect the same spa experience whether you’re sailing the Baltic, the Mediterranean, or even through the Panama Canal.

The Life of a Cruise Director

Most people step on board a cruise ship ready to relax with cocktails and sunsets.

Riviera Travel Cruise Director

For the crew, though, it’s a very different story. Life at sea is a mix of long hours, new adventures, and the occasional surreal moment that you simply couldn’t make up.

Few people know this better than Anette Taylor, Cruise Director at Riviera Travel, who has spent decades helping guests see the world while calling a ship her workplace.

NEW DEALS JUST RELEASED!

Don’t miss the latest Riviera Travel offers…

A Career That Started by Chance

Anette didn’t set out to work on cruise ships. In fact, the whole thing began by accident.

“After my husband and I married, he suggested we try working together,

“Within a week, we were offered roles as Cruise Director and Social Director on a Mediterranean ship.”

That one decision turned into 13 years sailing together on ocean liners.

Eventually, the couple returned to England, but for Anette the pull of life on the water was too strong to ignore.

Anette Taylor, Riviera Travel Cruise Director with husband

She joined Riviera Travel and, 26 years later, is still leading river and ocean cruises with the same enthusiasm.

What a Cruise Director Really Does

To guests, the Cruise Director might look like the friendly face who introduces entertainment or joins the odd excursion. In reality, the role is a constant juggling act.

“Port time is crucial…I use it to plan programmes, confirm excursions, check flight delays, and coordinate with the Captain and Hotel Manager on special celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries.

“It’s also my time to catch up on emails and research the next destination.”

In other words, while many passengers are out exploring, Anette is working behind the scenes to make sure every detail is in place.

She also accompanies travellers on trickier tours, ensuring they’re safe, smooth, and fun.

A Floating Community

One of the biggest differences between river and ocean cruises is what life is like for the crew. On smaller river ships, there’s less space, and staff often share cabins.

Riviera Travel Drinks

Ocean liners, on the other hand, usually offer gyms, bars, and even crew-only restaurants.

“Crew life is about more than work…

“People pursue passions, from studying for degrees to training for marathons, and socialising is a big part of life on board. Many friendships last a lifetime; I’m still in touch with colleagues from 35 years ago.”

Those bonds are forged partly because the crew live in such close quarters. I

t’s an environment that can be intense, but it also means there’s always someone around to share a coffee, celebrate a birthday, or swap stories from the day.

Packing for the Job

Contracts typically last between one and three weeks, with breaks in between. While uniforms are provided, crew still need to pack carefully.

“Crew members need to pack for varying climates and destinations, bringing essentials like medications, toiletries, and seasonal clothing,”

With the constant change in weather and locations, it’s about being ready for anything, whether that’s rain in Amsterdam or blazing sunshine in Budapest.

Budapest

And while technology makes it easier to keep in touch with loved ones back home, life on board has its own social scene.

“Staying connected with family and friends is easier than ever, but life at sea can also spark romances, some that last, some that end when contracts do.”

Tales You Wouldn’t Believe

If there is one thing that defines a life at sea, it is unpredictability. No matter how carefully a cruise is planned, surprises can and do happen.

Jane Austen Riviera Travel

Over the years, Anette has collected a catalogue of memories that prove working on a ship is anything but ordinary.

“Once, 300 school students on a short cruise got completely out of hand… Nothing worked until the captain disengaged the stabilisers. Calm returned almost instantly.”

For anyone who has worked with large groups, the image is instantly relatable: teenagers full of energy, excitement and little interest in rules. But on a ship, normal crowd-control tactics don’t always apply.

The solution in this case was as unusual as it was effective. Switching off the stabilisers would cause the ship to rock more noticeably, immediately distracting the students and cutting through the chaos.

It is a reminder that at sea, even the ship itself can be used as a tool to restore calm.

On another occasion, the drama was less about disruption and perhaps a little funnier.

“A gust of wind blew a passenger’s toupee into the Danube, and we all watched it float gently downstream,”

It’s the kind of moment that no amount of training can prepare a crew member for. While the passenger may not have seen the funny side at the time, it became one of those stories that lives on in crew folklore.

For Anette, it illustrates how the smallest, most unexpected events often stick in the memory long after the grand destinations fade into the background.

Together, these tales capture the variety of life on board. One moment you’re finding creative ways to calm 300 teenagers, the next you’re watching a toupee sail off into Europe’s second-longest river.

They are the kind of memories that make a cruise career so unique, and the kind of stories that keep crew members swapping anecdotes years later.

Advice for Newcomers

For anyone tempted to trade an office desk for the open sea, Anette doesn’t sugarcoat it. The job is rewarding, but it’s demanding too.

Riviera Excursion

“Gratuities are welcome year-round, and while downtime is limited, the rewards are plenty; new destinations, lifelong friendships, and the thrill of seeing the world from a truly unique perspective.”

A Life Less Ordinary

Anette’s journey shows that working on a cruise ship is about far more than ticking off ports on a map. It’s about being part of a community, creating special moments for guests, and collecting a few unforgettable stories of your own along the way.

From toupees floating down the Danube to lifelong friendships forged at sea, it’s a career that proves work can sometimes feel a lot like adventure.

Today, Anette continues to share her expertise and passion for travel as a Cruise Director with Riviera Travel, the UK’s leading river cruise and tour operator.

For 40 years Riviera has been curating holidays with care, bringing to life the world’s most fascinating destinations.

Their focus is on quality rather than quantity, ensuring every itinerary is thoughtfully balanced so travellers can explore at a relaxed pace while enjoying the best each destination has to offer.
