Carnival Cruise Line Opens New 2027 Sailings For Carnival Firenze

Carnival Cruise Line opened reservations for a lineup of new 2027 cruises aboard Carnival Firenze, including three distinct, unforgettable Carnival Journeys voyages across South America and 10 new Caribbean cruise options from Miami. The new sailings coincide with Carnival’s plans to reposition the popular “Carnival Fun Italian Style” ship to the east coast of the U.S. To see the new sailings on Carnival.com, click here.

“Carnival Firenze is a beautiful ship and our plan to bring her east creates a perfect opportunity to offer our guests sailings to culture-rich destinations. The South America journeys we’ve opened today truly stand out even among our already impressive lineup of Carnival Journeys cruises that combine our signature fun with spectacular longer itineraries,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Journeys Voyages Across South America

At the start of 2027, Carnival Firenze will sail three spectacular South America sailings. Each cruise will include visits to ports that are rare stops for Carnival ships.

· 15-Day South America from Long Beach to San Antonio (Santiago), Chile: Departing Jan. 4, 2027, guests will journey along the Pacific coast and visit four countries, with calls to Acapulco, Mexico; Manta, Ecuador; Callao (Lima), Peru, and San Antonio (Santiago), Chile, plus a memorable Equator crossing.

· 14-Day South America from Santiago, Chile to Buenos Aires, Argentina: Departing Jan. 19, 2027, this journey offers scenic cruising through the Darwin Channel, Chilean Fjords, and Cape Horn, plus port calls in Ushuaia and Puerto Madryn, Argentina; Montevideo, Uruguay and ending in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

· 16-Day South America from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Miami: Departing Feb. 2, 2027, this special voyage features stops in Brazil during the first day of the world-famous Brazilian Carnival, with a visit to the city of Rio de Janeiro as well as the Brazilian port Maceio. The sailing features a memorable crossing of the equator, a chance at viewing an annular solar eclipse at sea and visits to the beautiful Caribbean islands of Grenada, Martinique and St. Maarten before arriving in Miami.

Caribbean Sailings from Miami

Beginning Feb. 2027 through May 8, 2027, Carnival Firenze will homeport temporarily in Miami and offer a variety of itineraries that range from four to 13 days and explore The Bahamas, Eastern, Western, and Southern Caribbean. Highlights include a four-day Bahamas getaway visiting RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay and Celebration Key, six- and seven-day Caribbean cruises featuring Cozumel, Isla Tropical; Belize; Grand Cayman; Montego Bay; San Juan; St. Thomas, along with extended Carnival Journeys cruises (10 to 13 days) to the Southern Caribbean, visiting ports such as Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, St. Croix, Grenada, Barbados, Antigua, and Martinique.

Following her time in Miami, Carnival plans to reposition Carnival Firenze to New York for the summer of 2027. New cruises will be announced in the coming weeks for Carnival Firenze and the rest of the fleet as part of Carnival’s 2027/28 cruise schedule.

Hurtigruten Reports Strong Growth In UK Summer Trading And Global Financial Performance

Following a successful restructuring earlier this year – including its split from expedition cruise company HX – Hurtigruten, the leading operator of iconic Norwegian coastal voyages, is now charting its own course as a standalone company. With a fleet of 10 ships serving Norway’s coast and land-based tour operations in Svalbard, Hurtigruten is proud to report its first financial results since the separation.

In the UK, this year’s summer trading has been particularly strong, with booked revenue between 1 June and 28 August rising by 25% year-on-year. This revenue growth was fuelled by a surge in Signature bookings, which recorded a 75% increase over the same period. This summer, UK guest numbers across the Hurtigruten fleet rose by 10%, reflecting growing demand from British travellers for authentic experiences along the Norwegian coast.

“The UK remains one of Hurtigruten’s most important international markets, and we’re delighted to see such strong momentum this summer,” said Chief Commercial Officer, Iain Powell. “What’s especially encouraging is the way British travellers are embracing more premium experiences such as our Signature product, as well as showing a growing appetite for authentic journeys along Norway’s coast and to destinations like Svalbard. This shift reflects a broader trend towards meaningful, experience-led travel, and we believe the UK will continue to play a key role in driving our growth.”

Globally, Hurtigruten has released its first-half 2025 figures, reporting a 60% increase in EBITDA, up from EUR 27 million to EUR 43 million compared to the same period the previous year. Total revenue grew 14% to EUR 250 million, with occupancy rates improving from 66% in H1 2024 to 70% in H1 2025.

“This growth is a testament to the successful establishment of the ‘new’ Hurtigruten, which now solely serves the Norwegian coast and Svalbard. Our commitment to providing the iconic experience of Norway has resonated with our guests, and we are excited about the future as we continue to see strong demand,” said CEO Hedda Felin.

“We would like to thank our guests for choosing Hurtigruten, our partners for their collaboration, and our dedicated employees for their commitment. Together, we are setting new standards in the travel industry and creating unforgettable journeys through Norway’s breathtaking landscapes in a time where more sustainable destinations become increasingly popular,” Felin added.

Well positioned to meet strong demand

Looking ahead, Hurtigruten expects continued growth in EBITDA and occupancy rates, reflecting strong demand and positive booking trends. As of August 26, Hurtigruten’s booked ticket sales for the full current year are up by 11% compared to the same time in 2024. Similarly, Hurtigruten’s booked ticket sales for 2026 are up by 12% compared to the year ahead bookings at the same time last year.

During the first half of 2025 Hurtigruten restructured and significantly strengthened its balance sheet. The book equity now stands at EUR 85 million and the Company’s EUR 411 million term loans matures in 2030. The Group’s total cash position was EUR 112 million at the end of the first half of 2025.

Reducing environmental impact

As a part of Hurtigruten’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint, the company is continuously looking at ways to modernize the fleet. During the first half of 2025, MS Nordlys completed a significant upgrade to battery-hybrid propulsion, making it the fourth Hurtigruten ship to run on hybrid power. In addition, Hurtigruten reduced its Scope 1 emissions per guest by 9%, and significantly reduced SOx emissions by 45% (2024 figures compared to 2023).

Royal Caribbean Expands Perks For VIP Programme ‘The Key’

Royal Caribbean is rolling out new benefits for guests who purchase The Key, its exclusive VIP add-on programme.

Promotional image for Royal Caribbean's 'The Key' program, set against the interior of a cruise ship stateroom. The image features an overlaid text 'UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE BENEFITS' with a graphic of a key, suggesting enhanced experiences for guests. In the background, the room is modern and elegant with ocean views, a couch with blue pillows, and a wood-finished vanity, highlighting the comfort and perks that 'The Key' offers.

The package already included popular extras such as priority boarding, carry-on luggage drop-off, and reserved seating for shows.

Now, one new perk has been added, and another boosted, to make the programme more appealing.

One of the enhancements is a bigger discount on sports activities.

Instead of the 25% savings previously offered, Key guests will now enjoy 50% off select onboard activities.

A person in a blue flight suit and helmet joyfully experiences simulated skydiving in the RipCord by iFLY, a vertical wind tunnel aboard the Quantum of the Seas cruise ship, set against a backdrop of clear blue skies.

Depending on the ship, this could mean reduced pricing for Crown’s Edge on Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas, Ripcord by iFly on Quantum-class ships, or even extra FlowRider sessions.

The second addition is a new spa discount.

Guests can save $60 when they purchase a spa treatment priced at $250 or higher.

Options may include massages, detox wraps, IV therapy, or cosmetic services such as teeth whitening. This offer is one-time use per guest.

Everything Included in The Key

Here’s a list of everything you get included when you purchase The Key:

  • Priority access into the terminal on embarkation day
  • Carry-on bag drop-off with stateroom delivery
  • Exclusive welcome lunch
  • Priority departure at tender ports
  • VIP access to live shows
  • VOOM Surf & Stream internet
  • Exclusive breakfast on departure day
  • $60 discount on a spa treatment priced $250+
  • 50% off select sporting activities onboard

The price of The Key remains steep at $25-40 (or more) per person, per day, with all passengers over age six in the same stateroom required to purchase it.

For families, this can add up quickly – often over $1,000 for a weeklong cruise.

Independence of the Seas Spa

Still, many travellers find the value worthwhile for the convenience, discounts, and priority access it offers.

if you were planning on paying for a WiFi package anyway then it’s definitely worth considering The Key.

The Key will always be more expensive, so I’m not saying you should always get The Key instead of separate WiFi packages.

But you might find that the value is worth it to you if you intend to make the most of the other perks included.

Royal Caribbean regularly adjusts The Key’s offerings based on guest feedback.

Earlier in 2025, FlowRider access was removed in favour of the original 25% sports activity discount, and now the package has been further enhanced.

For anyone interested, it’s worth watching the cruise line’s app or website, as The Key is sometimes available at up to 40% off. Packages are limited for each sailing and do sell out.

Carnival’s Towel Animal Magic Exposed?

For many guests, one of the most delightful parts of a Carnival cruise is returning to the stateroom to find a towel animal waiting.

But one recent cruiser may have uncovered the secret behind the magic.

TikToker Matt Kortelainen, sailing on Carnival Adventure from Sydney to Moreton Island, found a bag of pre-made towel animals hidden under his bed.In a now-viral video, he compared the discovery to finding out Santa isn’t real.

The revelation sparked laughs, mock disappointment, and plenty of comments from other cruisers online.

Some admitted they’d also stumbled across hidden towel animals during past sailings.

@mynamesmattt Oh my goodness Carnival! 😂 #carnival #carnivalcruise #towelanimals #cruise ♬ original sound – Matt

While the discovery might spoil the illusion for some, it also makes sense.

On a full sailing, Carnival’s crew may need to deliver thousands of towel animals every day.

Preparing them ahead of time would help with efficiency, especially alongside all their other duties.

Kortelainen himself took the situation in good humour.

Rather than being upset, he unpacked the animals and displayed them around his cabin as a tongue-in-cheek surprise for his steward.

Towel Animal Rumours Denied by Carnival

Carnival Cruise Line has previously had to address speculation that its towel animals might be retired altogether.

In late 2023, an online rumour spread across cruise forums and social media, claiming that room stewards would no longer create the animals due to workload pressures.

The claim was quickly dismissed by the cruise line’s brand ambassador John Heald, who called the story “100% false” and confirmed that towel animals will always remain part of Carnival’s onboard tradition.

The rumour suggested that discontinuing the practice would give cabin attendants more time for other duties, but as stewards are highly skilled in making the animals, the time saved would have been minimal.

Many cruise lines offer towel-folding workshops onboard, for guests who wish to learn how to create their own versions of the animals at home.

Small Fire Causes Restaurant Closures On P&O Cruises’ Iona

Guests sailing aboard P&O Cruises’ flagship, Iona, experienced a brief scare on 29th August 2025, when a small galley fire disrupted dining services and prompted a swift crew response.

P&O Cruises Iona With A Mobility Scooter Header Image

The incident occurred while the ship was at sea returning to Southampton at the end of her 7-night Norwegian Fjords itinerary.

Passengers reported hearing an announcement calling for a first aid team to respond to a “fat fryer oil fire” on Deck 5.

Within minutes, more crew were summoned and team members were ordered to muster stations as a precaution.

Guests, however, were never instructed to leave their cabins or public areas.

The all-clear came after about 15 minutes, though several restaurants were closed, including the Pearl and Coral dining rooms on Deck 6.

Passengers near the affected area described corridors filled with the smell of burning oil and fire crews rushing through the hallways.

While the scene was unsettling, no injuries were reported and the crew earned praise for their quick and professional response.

Clean-up teams moved in immediately, limiting the impact to dining operations only.

Fire at sea is one of the most serious emergencies a cruise ship can face.

Iona Cruise

Well-trained onboard fire teams respond rapidly, while other crew prepare for possible evacuations.

Temporary restaurant closures are a standard safety measure to secure and ventilate the area.

Iona, which carries more than 5,200 guests and 1,800 crew, is expected to arrive in Southampton on schedule, ready to embark her next round of passengers.

Cruise Fires Are Rare

Fires onboard cruise ships are rare, and are typically dealt with by crew quickly.

A similar incident did occur earlier in the summer on the MSC Cruises ship MSC Orchestra, when an electrical switchboard caught fire.

The ship did lose power for a few hours as a result, but due to the quick action of crew members there was never any risk to the safety of the passengers onboard.

Another small fire broke out onboard the Princess Cruises ship Island Princess in July 2025.

Island Princess

Again this was quickly contained, although it didn’t stop several fake stories spreading on social media about an explosion onboard as passengers “feared for their lives”.

Always be careful what you read on social media when it comes to cruise emergencies, and check across several reputable cruise sources if you have any concerns that a story could be fake!

Carnival Changes Age Requirement for Calypso Lagoon at Celebration Key

Carnival Cruise Line has made an age change for the adults-only Calypso Lagoon at their new private port in The Bahamas, Celebration Key.

Calypso lagoon Celebration key

Staring on September 6, 2025, Calypso Lagoon will be for any guests who are 13 years and older.

This is a change from being truly adults-only (18+) when the area opened in July.

Calypso Lagoon celebration key

For guests who had an excursion or experience booked at Calypso Lagoon, they should have received the following email from Carnival explaining the change.

“Dear Carnival Guest,

“Thank you for purchasing (NAME OF GUEST EXCURSION) as part of your upcoming visit to Celebration Key. We have an important update regarding the age requirement for this experience.

“At the time of your purchase, this area within Calypso Lagoon was designated for guests 18 years and older. However, effective September 6, 2025, we are updating the age requirement to 13 years and older, allowing a broader range of guests to enjoy the space.

“We recognize that, with this change, you may wish to modify your plans. Alternatively, we invite you to explore Pearl Cove Beach Club, which continues to offer an exclusive experience for guests 18 years and older. Please note that Pearl Cove Beach Club passes are subject to limited availability. Modifications must be completed by midnight the night before embarkation. If you wish to keep your current plans, no action is required on your part.

“We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming you aboard for a fun and memorable cruise vacation.”

Celebration Key is Carnival Cruise Line’s new private port on Grand Bahama Island. Phase 1 of the port opened on July 19, 2025.

Calypso Lagoon is a 6.25 acre pool on the left side of the port. There’s an equally large 6.25 acre Starfish Lagoon on the other side that does not have any age requirements.
