Royal Caribbean’s Legend Of The Seas Floats For The First Time

Legend of the Seas* officially touched water for the first time. The teams behind the construction celebrated the moment as the newest family vacation floated out at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, where Legend will continue to take shape ahead of its August 2026 debut.

As part of the milestone, the ship’s dry dock was filled with water overnight in a process that took nearly 12 hours. Once the dock was filled, the legend in the making then floated over to the outfitting dock, marking an engineering feat that brings the ship one step closer to welcoming its first vacationers.

The third in the revolutionary Icon Class lineup is set to make waves and deliver the boldest experiences yet across eight neighborhoods. Between the adrenaline-pumping thrills at Category 6 waterpark and Crown’s Edge — part skywalk, part ropes course and part thrill ride — to unrivaled ways to chill, unmatched ways to dine and drink, and more to be revealed soon, families of all ages can enjoy the family time of a lifetime together and in their own ways. Legend will deliver summer 2026 adventures in Europe on 7-night Western Mediterranean vacations before making a grand Caribbean debut in November 2026 with 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean vacations, including visits to Royal Caribbean’s top-rated destination in The Bahamas at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Legend will also be the vacation company’s fourth ship fueled by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and feature industry-leading environmental programs. With applications ranging from waste heat recovery systems to shore power connection, Legend will help advance Royal Caribbean Group’s journey toward introducing a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.

From Free Donut Claims to Door Magnet Thefts, Carnival’s Heald Answers Cruise Questions

Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald has one of the most unique jobs on the planet.  And as a representative of the family cruise line, he tackles some odd questions from time to time.

He also has to straighten out some false information on what seems like a regular basis.

Carnival Conquest sailing out to sea from port

After the long three-day weekend, Heald took to Facebook to respond to a “Free donut” hoax that had been spreading on a certain unnamed Facebook page.

The Free Donut Hoax

Heald addressed the unusual rumor spreading on social media: “Carnival announced all police officers serving and retired will be given the new donuts for free.”

The claim even suggested officers only needed to show their ID to get the free donuts.

“I don’t know where this comes from,” Heald said.

Heald had to step in and clarify that, while Carnival supports first responders, this particular offer was completely false.   While admitting it was just a rumor, he did admit that he could possibly bring it up with “the beards” in the future.

New Donuts Are Here, But They’re Not Free

For those who still have donuts on the brain, it’s worth noting that Carnival has introduced new mini donuts, beignets, and churros. However, these are a for-a-fee item and are not complimentary.

You can find them on 11 ships in the fleet right now as a new menu item and also at Celebration Key, Carnival’s new private destination. At Celebration Key, a food truck called “Mini Donut King” serves up these treats for a charge.

Stolen Cabin Door Magnets

Heald also shared a story that many social media users found shocking: a guest on Carnival Conquest saw another passenger steal a magnet decoration from another passenger’s cabin door.

As Heald explained, “Here’s an older lady walking down the corridor, doesn’t think anybody’s around, steals the magnet and puts it in a purse.”

While some might think, “it’s just a magnet,” Heald was quick to point out that “it’s still stealing.” He used the incident to discuss a “lack of concern for others.

Adults-Only Cruises vs. Family Fun

Heald also weighed in on the popular debate between adults-only cruises and family-friendly vacations. While he acknowledged that some people “may prefer adults-only cruises,” he made it clear that Carnival prides itself on being a family-focused line.

He called having a “whole mixed demographic of age on the ship” the “perfect scenario.”

He also pushed back against the idea that only children cause a disturbance, noting that while kids “run and they jump and they shout and they scream,” it’s often just a sign they are having fun. This point was an interesting contrast to the story of the adult caught stealing, showing that poor behavior isn’t limited to the youngest passengers.

Carnival Festivale Keel Laying Sets Tempo For New Music-Themed Ship

In keeping with maritime tradition, a keel laying ceremony took place recently at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany for Carnival Cruise Line’s newest Excel-class ship, Carnival Festivale, set for delivery in spring 2027.

Brett Vitols, associate vice president of new builds for Carnival Cruise Line and Petu Kummala, associate vice president of interior design and architecture, along with members of Carnival’s new build team, were joined by the Meyer Werft team, including Georg Schauen, project manager for Carnival Festivale, to celebrate the construction milestone by placing commemorative coins under a 598-ton keel block. The coins, inscribed with musical notes, signify good luck for the vessel.

“Carnival Festivale isn’t just joining our fleet, she’ll be setting the tone for how to have fun at sea by blending vibrant designs and guest experiences that you can’t find anywhere else. Music is a universal language that connects people from around the world, and this ship will bring that to life in true Carnival fashion. We’re grateful to work with the skilled team once again at Meyer Werft to bring Carnival Festivale into our fleet,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

The keel laying took place just one day after Carnival announced new details about the music-themed ship and opened its inaugural season of sailings for sale. Once complete, the ship will sail from Port Canaveral, Fla. as Carnival’s fourth Excel-class flagship, as well its fourth vessel powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

Carnival Festivale will introduce immersive, music-inspired zones offering unique experiences for all ages. These zones celebrate the creative process of music-making, the energy of enjoying live music through interactive technology, dynamic lighting and design elements, as well as curated food, beverage and experiences. Sunsation Point, spanning Decks 16–18, is the ultimate family adventure zone anchored by Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, the most family-friendly water park at sea. And with 1,000 interconnecting rooms, expanded youth spaces and new programming for its youngest guests, Carnival Festivale will be the ultimate getaway for families of all ages and interests.

5 More New Cruise Ships Debuting Before the End of the Year

A couple weeks ago, Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas has made its debut in Florida. Tied for the largest cruise ship ever built, the ship is now sailing week-long cruises to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral.

With four months left in the year, there’s another five ocean ships debuting from mainstream cruise lines. Here’s a look at these new cruise ships and where they will be sailing to and from.

Brilliant Lady

Virgin Voyages adults only cruise ship

Virgin Voyages 4th adults-only cruise ship, Brilliant Lady, will make its long awaited debut this week on September 5, 2025. The ship was originally scheduled to debut in 2024 but Virgin pushed it back until this week.

While its a sister ship to the other three Virgin ships, the cruise line has made a few changes to make it even better.

Brilliant Lady will start off by offering a handful of cruises from New York City to Bermuda and Canada/New England.

In October, the ship will reposition to Miami, Florida for six- and eight-night cruises to the Caribbean and The Bahamas.

In the spring of 2026, Brilliant Lady will head to the West Coast for cruises to the Alaska.

Star Princess

Star princess

Star Princess is the second Sphere class ship from Princess Cruises, the largest ships in their fleet.

The ship will sail its maiden voyage on October 4, 2025 from Barcelona, Spain. After its second cruise in Europe, the vessel will sail to Port Everglades for seven-night cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

Star Princess will be christened in Ft. Lauderdale on November 6, a day after arriving from Europe.

After a winter season of cruises to the Caribbean, the ship will also head to the West Coast for cruises to Alaska from Seattle.

Celebrity Xcel

Celebrity Xcel

Celebrity Xcel will be the fifth Edge class ship from Celebrity Cruises and will debut on November 9, 2025, a four-night cruise from Port Everglades to Mexico.

After the inaugural cruise, the ship will sail a few press cruises for media and travel agents and Celebrity Xcel will be christened on November 16 by Janaína Torres.

After a five-night cruise to the Western Caribbean, the ship will begin sailing week-long cruises to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

In the summer of 2026, the ship will sail in Europe offering a variety of cruises from Barcelona and Athens.

Disney Destiny

Disney Destiny float out

The first of two new Disney cruise ships this year, Disney Destiny will be the cruise line’s third Wish class ship.

The ship will debut on November 20, 2025 offering four- and five-night cruises to The Bahamas from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The ship will visit both of Disney’s private ports in The Bahamas, Castaway Cay and Lighthouse Point. Some cruises will substitute one of these port stops with Nassau.

Disney Destiny will have a ‘Heroes and Villains’ theme and offer one-of-a-kind venues and experiences.

The cruise ship will offer spectacular entertainment for the whole family, featuring the debut of brand-new experiences and the return of guest-favorite shows and activities that immerse families in legendary worlds, both real and imagined, through unparalleled Disney storytelling.

Disney Adventure

Disney Adventure will be Disney Cruise Line’s largest ship yet at over 200,000 gross tons in size. This is also the only ship on the list that will not sail from the U.S.

Disney Adventure will have the longest roller coaster at sea and have unique features found only on this ship.

Since the ship will be a destination in itself, it will sail three- to five-night cruises from Singapore with no port stops.

Cruise Fever will be on Star Princess, Disney Destiny and Celebrity Xcel in November. Stay tuned as we bring you all the great features of these brand new cruise ships.

Carnival Festivale Will Feature the Most Family-Friendly Water Park at Sea, And Sail Six- and Eight-Day Caribbean Cruises from Port Canaveral in 2027/28

Carnival Cruise Line’s exciting new Carnival Festivale, is open for booking and launches in 2027, and the line recently revealed further details of the ship’s features set to transform the cruise experience into a non-stop celebration of music and family fun. The ship’s newly available sailings can be found here.

Carnival Festivale will make its way home to Port Canaveral with a spectacular 15-day transatlantic voyage from Southampton, England on May 2, 2027. This maiden voyage features calls to some of Europe’s most captivating destinations including La Coruña and Vigo, Spain; Funchal on Madeira Island, Portugal, as well as Tenerife in the Canary Islands, before crossing the Atlantic Ocean, visiting Grand Turk and arriving to its Port Canaveral homeport on May 16, 2027.

On May 19, 2027, Carnival Festivale will begin cruising from Port Canaveral with its first sailing – a four-day Bahamas cruise featuring visits to Carnival’s exclusive private destinations, Celebration Key and RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. The ship’s primary cruise schedule will offer a comprehensive selection of six- and eight-day Eastern and Southern Caribbean cruises. Itineraries feature destinations such as Amber Cove; San Juan; St. Thomas; St. Maarten; as well as the award-winning RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. All Carnival Festivale sailings will offer a visit to Celebration Key, Carnival’s newest exclusive destination on Grand Bahama. Southern Caribbean sailings will also include the islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao. A special seven-day New Year’s cruise departing December 27, 2027, is also among the more than 50 voyages opened for sale today aboard the new ship.

Transformative Zones Create Perfect Soundtrack of Family Vacation

Continuing the Excel-class tradition of sharing its name with a classic Carnival ship, the all-new Carnival Festivale will further innovate on the popular Excel platform and represents a new chapter for the award-winning class.

“Music is the universal language that brings families and friends together, and Carnival Festivale will amplify that unique connection. The experiences we’ll deliver will appeal to every generation,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “Everyone – no matter their age or interest – will find their rhythm on this ship.”

Duffy said the ship will deliver truly immersive environments, where the love of music inspires a variety of unique experiences across three transformative zones:

Studio 724: Where Music Comes to Life

Just beyond the ship’s Grand Central atrium, which serves as the main hub, as well as a three-deck-high live entertainment venue, is Studio 724: a first-of-its-kind celebration of the creative music-making process. Through interactive experiences powered by technology, the vibrant zone reacts in real time to sound with synchronized lights and animations to capture the creative energy of mixing, recording, and listening to music, inviting guests to become part of the musical journey rather than simply observe it.

One of the zone’s highlights is The Spark on Deck 6, where guests will enjoy a vibrant setting designed to embody the art of songwriting, as well as cocktails inspired by iconic songs and nightly live music performances. The zone also features Carnival’s signature Alchemy Bar on Deck 6, famous fleetwide for its craft cocktails and molecular mixology. On Carnival Festivale, Alchemy Bar will offer an enhanced experience, with its own dedicated space adjacent to the atrium, and features an expanded lounge with a stage for live music performances. Already a celebration of music fleetwide, Carnival Festivale’s Piano Bar 88 will be right at home on Deck 6 as well.

At Mix Bar on Deck 7, guests can enjoy creatively named cocktails like the Synth and Hi-Fi, or craft their own unique drink by layering flavor “tracks” beneath a turntable-themed bar. Also on Deck 7 is Limelight Lounge, another venue where guests are brought together by music across the fleet. Carnival Festivale’s iteration of the lounge will bring a completely redesigned look and feel to match the music-inspired theme of Studio 724.

The Festival: Outdoor Music Festival Energy at Sea

The Festival on Deck 8 captures the authentic social atmosphere and energy of outdoor music festivals in a cruise ship setting. An inviting, brightly colored promenade connects guests to several food and beverage venues through an atmosphere that transforms from day to night with evolving lights and sounds.

In this zone, guests will find Festival Grounds Coffee & Bar, which anchors the space with specialty coffee creations and festival-inspired cocktails. Dynamic lighting and music shift the venue from an energetic daytime vibe to a mellow nighttime ambiance. Pizza Palooza delivers fresh pizzas, which Carnival guests know and love fleetwide as a quick bite that’s perfect for sharing among friends. Rhythm & Rolls Deli rounds out the casual dining options with gourmet sandwiches. The pizza and deli venue designs are inspired by festival food trucks and complement the energetic atmosphere with specialty cocktails that capture the spirit of summer music festivals.

Sunsation Point: The Ultimate Family Adventure Zone

Spanning three decks 16-18, Sunsation Point represents the crown jewel of family fun and entertainment at sea. This area is anchored by Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, the most family-friendly water park at sea – and biggest in Carnival history.

Deck 16 is the place to relax as well as a hub of family-friendly activities and dining options designed to cater to all ages. At Sunsation Sips, everything from craft cocktails to slushies will be served up to cater to all ages and cravings. The vibrant Vista Pool is also perfect for any age group and features a baby splash pad for the littlest cruisers in swim diapers. Guests can enjoy familiar favorites like Big Chicken and Swirls ice cream, signature offerings across the Excel class.

Decks 17 and 18 take entertainment and adventure to the next level. Deck 17 is a place to rewind with nostalgic elements, including the Vault Retrocade, which combines retro charm with modern arcade games. The Scenic Overlook, a bar with breathtaking aft sunset views, TVs for sports, and outdoor games like pool and giant Jenga complements the adjacent new mini golf course that will be illuminated at night. This deck will also be home to the Treehouse, an all-new concept that features an adventure trail with netted bridges high above the deck filled with fun obstacles and a dry slide. Nearby, a toddler playground provides climbing fun for little ones.

Deck 18 is also home to Carnival WaterWorks Ultra, where families can enjoy thrilling slides, splash pads, and shaded play areas for all ages. This expansive aquatic playground features six thrilling water slides designed for different age groups and adventure levels, including two innovative family raft rides, SunSoaker and Turning Tides. Guests can also enjoy thrills and some friendly competition on the dueling Racing Currents slides. The Mini Racers double-slide and Mini Twister are perfect for kids.

Sunsation Point, as Carnival previously announced, will introduce the first nighttime WaterWorks operations. Activating the multi-deck zone with vibrant illumination and a live DJ, water park hours will be extended on special evenings for guests of all ages to enjoy more fun together.

Carnival Festivale will feature 1,000 interconnecting rooms, nearly 70 percent more than on the first three Excel-class vessels. The ship will also introduce a dedicated space for Carnival’s Turtles program which is for children six months to two years, and more experiences for its youngest cruisers on the open decks, in addition to the enhancement of all youth spaces to support additional programming.

Carnival Festivale will sail year-round from Port Canaveral, where it joins Excel-class sister ship Mardi Gras, adding more variety and more capacity to the popular homeport. Additional deployment plans for the 2027/28 cruise schedule will be announced for Port Canaveral soon.

Royal Caribbean’s Legend Of The Seas Floats Out In Finland

Royal Caribbean has celebrated a major construction milestone with the float-out of its newest Icon Class ship, Legend of the Seas, at Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.

Legend of the Seas Float Out

The ceremony took place on Friday 29th August 2025, marking the moment the 248,000-tonne vessel touched water for the first time.

The float-out signifies that the exterior is largely complete and attention now turns to the interiors, technical systems and final outfitting.

Work will soon focus on the ship’s 2,805 staterooms, as well as its wide array of restaurants, entertainment venues and guest amenities.

Legend of the Seas float out

Sea trials will follow once the fitting-out process is complete, before the ship is formally handed over to Royal Caribbean in 2026.

Next Steps in Construction

At the same time as Legend of the Seas moves into her outfitting phase, Meyer Turku is laying the keel for the fourth Icon Class ship, which is expected to enter service in 2027.

Legend of the Seas is the third ship in the record-breaking Icon Class.

Legend of the Seas AquaDome fitting

Sister ship Icon of the Seas made history in 2024 as the world’s largest cruise ship, a title shared with Star of the Seas, which entered service earlier in 2025.

The float-out of Legend of the Seas follows the installation of her AquaDome in July, a striking glass-topped structure that is one of the Icon Class’ signature features.

Inaugural Itineraries

Legend of the Seas is scheduled to debut on 2nd August 2026 with a 7-night Western Mediterranean cruise from Barcelona.

The roundtrip sailing will visit Palma de Mallorca, La Spezia, Civitavecchia and Naples before returning to Spain.

The ship will continue to operate Mediterranean voyages until late October. This is particularly exciting for Brits and European cruise guests who wish to experience the Icon Class for themselves, but are unwilling or unable to fly to the US to sail on the other ships in the class.

Following her European late summer season, Legend of the Seas will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for her first US season.

Winter itineraries will include a mix of Caribbean and Bahamas sailings, with highlights such as a short preview cruise to Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at CocoCay.

Sister’s Launch Troubles

Royal Caribbean will be hoping that, when August 2026 rolls around, the Legend of the Seas debut goes smoother than that of sister ship Star of the Seas.

Star of the Seas suffered an eventful first couple of weeks, with planned godmother Diana Ross pulling out just a few days before the naming ceremony, followed by a man overboard alert on one of the trial sailings before the official inaugural.

Thankfully that incident ended well, as a guest had fallen from the pier next to the ship while photographing it on their phone, and they were able to be rescued.

Star of the Seas did have one water slide closed for her debut, though, as the Frightening Bolt slide on sister ship Icon of the Seas had broken and injured a guest, again just a couple of weeks before Star of the Seas’ launch.

The cruise line will be hoping that the debut of Legend of the Seas is eventful, but for better reasons than that of Star.

Cruise Expert Warns Holidaymakers Of Crime Risks In Top European Ports

British travellers heading to some of Europe’s most famous cruise destinations are being urged to remain on high alert, as concerns about theft and pickpocketing continue to shadow popular ports.

Barcelona with La Sagrada Familia during christmas season

Gary Bembridge, a London-based cruise expert, said that even in well-loved regions such as the Mediterranean, some of the busiest cities carry significant risks for tourists stepping ashore.

Speaking after a series of recent trips, he reminded passengers that “not every port is safe,” despite the steady flow of cruise ships docking in these areas.

In one of his widely watched travel videos, he warned: “Even in the most popular cruising regions – the Caribbean and the Mediterranean – many of the most visited ports are among the riskiest anywhere in the world.”

Five Ports to Watch Out For

Bembridge highlighted several European cities where cruise passengers should be extra cautious:

  • Barcelona, Spain – Despite an 8.8% drop in recorded crimes in the first half of 2025, the bustling Las Ramblas district remains a hotspot for pickpocketing. “It’s an absolute pickpocketer’s dream,” Bembridge said.
  • Rome, Italy – The Italian capital ranks second nationally for reported crime, with theft accounting for more than half of cases. Tourists around landmarks such as the Colosseum are frequent targets.
  • Venice, Italy – Crowds around St Mark’s Square and the city’s narrow alleyways create prime conditions for opportunistic thieves.
People boating at Venice
Venice
  • Athens, Greece – Incidents on public transport, including the theft of passports, have left some travellers unable to rejoin their cruise. Greek police logged more than 62,000 thefts nationwide in 2023.
  • Livorno, Italy – A gateway to Pisa and Florence, the Tuscan port connects visitors to two cities known for high levels of pickpocketing. Florence is the country’s third most crime-affected city, according to Italy’s Interior Ministry.

Staying Safe Ashore

Bembridge advises travellers to check the latest government travel guidance before leaving their ship, and to remain vigilant when visiting busy tourist areas.

He also suggested taking contact details for the port representative in case of emergencies.

His safety tips include:

  • Avoid wearing or carrying valuables.
  • Stay in busy, tourist-populated areas.
  • Keep passports and important documents stored safely, with copies kept separately.
  • Be cautious of distraction techniques often used by thieves.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office echoes these warnings, particularly around theft in city centres and on public transport in Spain, Italy, and Greece.

For some, Bembridge suggests the safest option may be to stay close to the port or even remain onboard. “Even in ports considered safer, there are still risks,” he concluded.

More Port Warnings

I’ve also conducted my own survey on the ports that cruisers regret visiting, although these were less due to crime.

Naples was the port most commonly mentioned, described as being extremely dangerous from a traffic perspective, and very dirty. One person did mention being robbed in the city, too.

Naples

Martinique in the Caribbean was another that was described as being less than idyllic, with one person even saying it was “the pits” around the harbour area.

Jamaica, Belize and Alexandria were the other ports that guests said they felt were dangerous, dirty or just downright disappointing.
