There’s plenty to see and do on board this fine ship, and some thrilling itineraries that you can book. If you want to know more about the stateroom options, destinations and deals available then read on!

About Azamara Quest

The Azamara Quest was first built in 2000 for the cruise line Renaissance Cruises, where she was given the inventive name of R Seven, being the seventh ship in that fleet.

When that cruise line collapsed, she was chartered to a German cruise line as the Delphin Renaissance, before being sold to Pullmantur Cruises and being renamed Blue Moon in 2006.

A year later, she was transferred to the new Azamara Cruises brand, also owned by the Royal Caribbean Group at the time, and she was rebranded Azamara Quest. Along with her sister ship Azamara Journey (the former R Six), she was one of the mainstays of this brand until 2018 when a third ship finally joined the fleet.

In 2021, the Azamara brand was sold by Royal Caribbean Group to a private equity firm Sycamore Partners. The cruise line continues to operate to the same standards despite the change in owner.

The ship has undergone multiple refurbishments, the main ones in 2012 and in 2018. She is registered in Malta, and has a passenger capacity of 686.

Club Balcony Stateroom

Club Interior Stateroom

The Club Interior Staterooms on Azamara Quest are really comfortable and well-appointed. You’ll have two twin beds that can be converted to a Queen size bed if you prefer, as well as a mini bar, a 40” TV (wall-mounted to save space) and there’s still room for a small sofa and a writing desk.

Guests in this level of stateroom also enjoy luxurious bed linens, bathrobes and slippers, and fresh flowers in their room. There’s 24-hour room service available, along with a shoe-shine service when you want to look your best for any formal nights on-board.

Club Oceanview Stateroom

Club Oceanview Staterooms on Azamara Quest are actually the smallest on the ship, but they’re still big enough to be comfortable, and you get a good-sized picture window that allows for plenty of natural light to fill the room.

You get every amenity that’s included in an Interior Stateroom too, and some Oceanview Staterooms also have a sofa bed, making them a good choice for families sailing on the ship.

Category 08 staterooms have an obstructed view. They aren’t given a separate classification by the cruise line, but they are priced differently and so if you are more concerned with natural light than the actual view, these are a good value choice.

Club Balcony Stateroom

The Club Balcony Staterooms are a great choice if you want to enjoy a relaxing view. The actual staterooms are bigger than the Inside and Oceanview staterooms too, so you’ve more space to relax – meaning there’s now a dedicated sitting area with the TV. You also get a refrigerator with your mini bar, so you can cool your own snacks and drinks too.

The balcony is a decent size, with enough room for two chairs and a table. Overall these are a great choice if you want to be able to soak up the view of your destination, but will still spend much of your time exploring the ship.

Club Balcony Plus Stateroom

Choosing a Club Balcony Plus Stateroom unlocks a lot of extra features. The rooms are identical in size and layout to the Club Balcony Staterooms, but you get a lot of extra perks that you can enjoy during your cruise, including:

  • Either 120 minutes of complimentary internet, or $130 towards a full voyage unlimited internet package
  • A free bag of laundry every 7 days
  • One complimentary speciality dining restaurant every 7 days
  • Priority embarkation and debarkation
  • Complimentary spirits in your room
  • Complimentary AzAmazing Evenings on most voyages
  • Various spirits, beers and wines included across the ship
  • All gratuities paid for
  • Bottled water, soft drinks, coffees and teas
  • Transfers to and from port communities
  • Concierge service for help making reservations

Club Continent Suite

The smallest of the suites on the Azamara Quest, the Club Continent is still a spacious room with plenty of space to relax and unwind and a 50% larger balcony (compared to Club Balcony staterooms) for a touch of added luxury.

You don’t get all of the benefits of a Club Balcony Plus stateroom with the Club Continent Suite, but you do get:

  • A bigger TV (55”)
  • 240 minutes of complimentary internet, or 50% off an unlimited internet package
  • One free bag of laundry every 7 days
  • Complimentary speciality dining

Club Spa Suite

The Club Spa Suite is a significant upgrade over the Club Continent Suite both in terms of size and amenities. As well as easy access to the ship’s spa, you also get spa music played in your room (if you want it – you can turn it off). You also get your own glass-enclosed bathtub and a separate rain shower.

As well as all the benefits of the Club Continent Suite, you get a free unlimited internet package, fresh healthy snacks delivered each day, and $300 onboard credit to spend as you see fit. These rooms really are luxurious, and the extra perks just make for a special voyage.

Club Ocean Suite

In terms of in-suite amenities, the Club Ocean Suites on Azamara Quest are very similar to those of the Club Spa Suites. The upgrade is more in the size and layout of the room. The actual stateroom area is larger and has fully separate bedroom and sitting areas.

Meanwhile, the balcony is huge – with enough space for a four-seater table and loungers. If you want a room where you can really unwind, or even have guests over for a cocktail evening, then this is a fantastic choice.

Club World Owner’s Suite

The Club World Owner’s Suite is the largest suite on the Azamara Quest, and the perfect location to host friends for a drink before a meal or a theatre show. The stateroom itself is huge, with separate living and sitting areas and a beautiful marble bathroom.

Meanwhile, the balcony is larger than many of the actual staterooms on the rest of the ship, giving you ample space to unwind on a warm summer evening. You get all the same perks as the other suite categories too, including the $300 credit to spend on board.

Azamara Quest Itineraries

In the winter 2024/25 season, Azamara Quest is offering a range of cruises around southern Africa.

She’ll then offer cruises around all of Europe for the summer 2025 season before she crosses the Atlantic for a selection of Canada & New England sailings, before several cruises around the Caribbean.

She’ll offer some South America sailings at the start of 2026 before she sails back to Europe.

This shows you how an Azamara ship like Azamara Quest doesn’t just spend its time repeating the same itineraries. Booking an Azamara cruise allows you to explore amazing parts of the world at different times, perfect if you love the thrill of new cultures and experiences.

Azamara Quest Deals

Despite being a premium cruise line, Azamara Quest cruises aren’t anywhere near as expensive as some of the other luxury options, and there are some great deals to be had, especially if you’re flexible on destination and dates.

I’d recommend booking with Panache Cruises – they can tailor your Azamara Quest cruise so that it’s perfect for you, and they’ll get you the best Azamara cruise deals too.

I’ve worked with the team behind Panache for many years and I know how much they care about every passenger and itinerary, so they’ll definitely be able to help make your Azamara Quest cruise something special.

There are some amazing experiences waiting for you with Azamara Quest, with plenty of choices when it comes to your stateroom and itinerary too. Shaping The Next Generation Of Players

The youth football academies that FIFA has sponsored have always been instrumental in the development of youth players around the world. These academies are not simply centers where youngsters kick football, but they are the building blocks for the future of international football. In this article, we will explain how FIFA academies train and prepare the future football stars of the world.

What Are FIFA Youth Academies?

It is important to clarify that FIFA youth academies are global organizations that aim primarily at discovering and nurturing young soccer players. Their goal includes providing world-class coaching, modern training facilities, and a clearly defined pathway to professional football careers. Such academies exist in a number of countries and serve players of various origins with the desire to build a rich and varied young sports world.

FIFA youth academies also focus on the educational aspect and life among the other non-football technical areas of a player. The players are molded even as people, not only athletes. These academies teach children how to be disciplined, team players, and not buckle easily, which in turn prepares them to compete with the best in the game. But, by the way, if you want to enjoy the best world players right now, try to place bets on the upcoming matches. Well, to make it more profitable, use the MelBet promo code. With it, your winnings can increase many times, and the risk does not increase by a drop! In general, there is no reason why you should refuse such a tempting promo code.

Key Skills Taught at FIFA Academies

At FIFA academies, players learn a huge variety of crucial skills that are very vital. Let’s elaborate on some of the most important ones:

  1. Ball Control: Next to dribbling, controlling the ball is the vital skill any professional footballer would have to acquire for his or her career to be successful.
  2. Passing and Movement: Volitional and rhythmic passing and moving in congested areas are fundamental.
  3. Tactical Understanding: The knowledge of different strategies of the game and dealing with them.
  4. Physical Conditioning: Enhancing the level of performance through fitness programs.
  5. Mental Toughness: Developing the ability to withstand and perform in unfavorable situations in the game.

As such, these skills are instilled in players through set practice sessions and real-game experience, which enables them to develop confidence and become well-rounded athletes. By emphasizing technical skills as well as psychological aspects, FIFA academies produce players who are ready to face any kind of situation. And if you want to immerse yourself in the world of sports and follow every such situation, try betting online. By betting, you are much more immersed in every moment of the game and do not miss a second because you understand that not only the team’s victory depends on it but also yours!

The Journey From School to Professional Level

FIFA academies are more than just skill schools – they represent a step towards professional football. When they become a member of an academy, players get a chance to exhibit what they can do in competitive settings. Most of the time, these academies have links to professional clubs, which form an ideal ground for young players to be hunted down.

In certain cases, players enter directly into professional teams, while some take the ladder to greater competitions, such as national teams and reserve teams. With this structured pathway, players are assured of being able to reach the top-tier level for at least one day. FIFA academies serve as links between young talent and professional football and, in turn, help them to reach their goals faster.

Coaching in Relation to the Growth of the Player

Every FIFA academy owes its achievements to effective coaching. These coaches, who have played professional football themselves early, offer tailored training that ensures the players reach their maximum potential. Besides the technical aspects, the essence of mental toughness, discipline, and teamwork is also stressed.

Such coaches aim to strengthen the players’ positive aspects of their game while minimizing the negative. Furthermore, these coaches also give constant feedback so that every aspect of the player’s development is thoroughly monitored. Thus, the coaches in this order of things become more important as they convert potential into performance.

How Academies Shape the Development of Mental Toughness

Mental toughness development is one of the core values in the growth of a player in any of FIFA’s academies. Players are stimulated physically as well as mentally. Here is how mental toughness is bred:

  • Impact Exposure: A high level of stress is placed on players in order to achieve balance.
  • Resilience Strategies: Successful integration of failures by means of a supportive framework.
  • Concentration and Commitment: Centering focus and strong will in training sessions and matches.

Throughout the entire process of development, such systems ensure that players’ growth is not limited in terms of technical skills but also in terms of mentality, which is necessary because professional football is both highly competitive and demanding. It is this mental strength that ‘saves’ a player and allows him to be elevated to the global level.

Fostering Talent: Significance of Training Setups

Modern training facilities are one of the fundamental components that enable FIFA youth academies to flourish. Such features include beautiful pitches, high-standard gymnasiums, and, to a greater extent, more facilities that are aimed at creating the best atmosphere for the young players to train and be their best.

FIFA academies have also incorporated the sports science revolution with medical systems inclusive of fitness and rehabilitation devices. It makes it possible to customize training programs for all players in order to enhance their performances and at the same time mitigate injury risks. What is more, these unique facilities allow the players to always be in the best state throughout the time when there are no competitions.

Success Stories: From Academy to International Stars

The number of players getting into professional football after joining FIFA youth academies speaks volumes, as every single player joined with the hope of making it big one day. Great players have emerged in this sport, such as Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappé, who played at the best youth academies before taking the world stage as great players. Their narratives demonstrate the awe-inspiring accomplishments that can be attained through sheer grit, effort, and the right circumstances.

These achievement narratives motivate a multitude of young players across the globe that dreams do come true, given the adequate amount of effort and backing. The road to international stardom from the academy level, in fact, is hard but one that is plausible. With the right attitude, commitment, and culture, these players have bagged the ultimate prize. The world of football will continue to provide such great success stories where courage and valor have surpassed every limitation.

23 Signs You’re Addicted To Cruises

Are you addicted to cruises? Do you always want a cruise vacation? If so, you’re not alone. Millions of people around the world are cruise addicts. But just because something is popular doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

So what are the signs that you’re a cruise addict? And more importantly, how do you know if cruising is right for you? Keep reading to find out.

The First Signs of a problem

The first sign that you might be suffering from cruise addiction is if you’re always talking about them. If you can’t go a day without mentioning cruising or thinking about it, then it’s become an obsession.

Another sign is if you start planning your next cruise as soon as you get home from your current one. If you’re constantly looking at cruise deals and trying to find ways to save money so you can go on more cruises, then it’s safe to say that cruising has taken over your life.

What are the signs that you’re addicted to cruises?

Some people love cruises so much that they wonder if they’re addicted. Here are some signs that you may be suffering from cruise addiction:

  1. Start planning your next cruise while you’re still on the current one and try to have a cruise booked at all times, even on the same ship or cruise line.
  2. You get withdrawal symptoms when you’re not on a cruise and have even suffered post-cruise depression after sailing.
  3. You’ve been on more than two cruises in the past year.
  4. You only want to travel if it’s on a cruise ship.
  5. You have photos of cruise ships as your screensaver and wallpaper.
  6. Everyone you know is sick of hearing you talk about cruises, and you seek out other cruise addicts on internet forums and groups.
  7. You’ve started using cruise ship terms in everyday conversation (e.g., referring to your bedroom as your “stateroom”).
  8. You have a collection of cruise-related memorabilia (e.g., ship models, keychains, mugs, t-shirts) from past vacations and cherish items from your first cruise.
  9. You can recite the schedule of activities for multiple cruise lines from memory.
  10. You visit the cruise ship tracker maps and dream you are currently on a cruise.
  11. You follow cruise line and cruise industry news closely and have invested in cruise stocks for the onboard credit benefits.
  12. You get to know crew members by first name and book cruises to cruise with them like “family members.”
  13. You feel euphoric the week of your upcoming cruise and dream about getting up the morning of your cruise. You also keep your cruise line boarding pass in a very safe place so you won’t lose or forget it.
  14. You feel an affinity to a single cruise line and have taken steps to rank up in the past passenger club or society.
  15. You judge other cruisers or “passengers” on how many nights they have spent at sea and cruised.
  16. You offer unsolicited expert advice and insider tips when you meet cruisers on their first cruise.
  17. You often will show your neighborhood kids or family members your collection of boarding passes or “cruise cards” unsolicited.
  18. You can’t help but judge other cruisers on which cruise line and cruise ships they have sailed or have booked.
  19. You watch Mighty Cruise Ships on TV and recognize crew members, where you have eaten dinner, a cabin you stayed in, and more.
  20. You follow cruise line and cruise industry news on social media and YouTube.
  21. Fellow passengers and crew members have openly called you a “cruise addict”.
  22. You have a pre-cruise ritual and packing-list filled with “must have” items you use just for cruising.
  23. You only associate with friends who also like to cruise.

If you can relate to any of the above signs, then there’s a good chance you’re a cruise addict!

What are the dangers of being addicted to cruises?

Whether it’s the allure of the open seas, the chance to explore new lands, or the seemingly endless supply of buffet food, people might become cruise addicts. Cruise addiction is a natural and dangerous phenomenon.

While being a cruise addict can be dangerous, cruise addiction can be especially harmful due to the cost of cruises, the potential for financial ruin, and the health risks associated with cruise travel.

Money Concerns, Because your are hooked

Cruise addicts often spend large amounts of money on cruise bookings, sometimes going into debt to pay for their fix.

In addition, cruise addicts often neglect their other responsibilities to plan and go on cruises. This can lead to job loss, ruined relationships, and other serious problems.

World Cruise

A significant indicator one trying to save for a World Cruise only after sailing a few times because you enjoy cruising so much and want to mark this off your bucket list.

Health Concerns

Health-wise, cruise addicts are at increased risk for motion sickness, dehydration, and sunburn. The lengthy exposure to the sun could cause harsh sun or worse.

The cruiser may also develop anxiety or depression due to the isolation of being on a cruise ship for extended periods or even at home when you only want to associate with your “cruise friends.”

In advanced stages, cruise addicts often don’t disembark the cruise ship when visiting a port destination or join group activities such as the “belly flop contest.” If you or someone you know may be suffering from cruise addiction, get help before it’s too late.

Are you constantly checking online cruise reviews and booking websites for updates on the latest deals and promotions?

Is your computer screen constantly filled with images of tropical beaches and luxury cruise ships? Do you find yourself daydreaming about white sand beaches and blue waters? Don’t worry; you’re not alone. There are millions of people out there who share your passion for cruising.

How to overcome an addiction to cruises

It’s official: I’m addicted to cruising. I’ve been on four in the last two years, and each has been better than the previous. I love waking up in a new place each day and never having to unpack or worry about laundry.

All-Inclusive Food, Drink, Entertainment

I love the all-inclusive food and drink, the nightly entertainment, and the opportunities to explore new destinations.

But I know that my addiction is getting out of control. I now plan my holidays around cruises, spending more money on them than I can afford. I’ve even started booking multiple cruises back-to-back to extend the feeling of being on vacation and help prevent the feared post cruise depression due to being addicted to cruising.

So how do I overcome my addiction to cruises?

First, I need to accept that I have a problem. Just like any other addiction, admitting that there’s a problem is the first step to recovery. Being addicted to cruising is not easy but, things could be worse. It’s not like it’s a life sentence from some dreaded disease or other awful life altering event. You need to focus on the positive and learn to manage in a healthy and productive way.

Other Vacation Types?

Second, I need to start making other plans for my vacations. Instead of automatically booking a cruise, I’m going to research other holiday options and give myself time to decide what sounds best.

Start Budgeting

Finally, I need to be honest about how much money I’m spending on cruises. If I want to continue cruising, I will have to start budgeting and make some sacrifices. Maybe I can move less often or find cheaper cruises. Whatever it takes, I need to get my addiction under control.

Your Happy Place

So, if you’re questioning whether or not you may have a cruise addiction, ask yourself these questions. Do you find yourself constantly checking cruise prices and availability? Are cruising forums one of your favorite places to hang out online?

Cruise Lines and Cruise Ships

When people mention cruises, do you start to feel excited and antsy? If the answer is yes to any of these, cruises have likely taken over your life in an unhealthy way. But don’t worry, there is hope.

Understanding The Dangers

By understanding the dangers of being addicted to cruises and taking some simple steps to overcome your addiction, you can get back on track and enjoy healthier hobbies and activities.

Editors Note: Addiction is not a joking matter, but we took the liberty in this article to poke fun at ourselves (Cruise Addicts) and bring up some serious issues in extreme cases. Addiction affects people of all ages and incomes and can take many forms. Cruise travel could also become an addiction and does offer a sense of joy and excitement that could lead to overindulgence or abuse.

Regal Princess cruise ship

Regal Princess will enter dry dock in late April and return to service on May 9, 2025. The April 18, 2025 sailing is being shortened from 10 to six days. Guests booked on the cruise will receive a pro-rated refund, future cruise credit, onboard credit to spend on the ship, and compensation for airline change fees.

In addition, the April 28, 2025 sailing has been canceled. Guests booked on this cruise will receive a full refund, a future cruise credit, and reimbursement for airline change fees.

The cruise ship will enter dry dock in Rotterdam where repairs will be made to the vessel.

Princess Cruises sent a statement to Cruise Fever saying that the technical issue does not affect the ship’s safety, systems, comfort, dining, entertainment, or any other guest-facing features.

Regal Princess remains fully certified for service by authorities and remains fully operational.  The cruise line went on to say that all scheduled cruises through early April will proceed as planned.

Princess Cruises ended the statement by saying the following about the canceled and shortened cruises:

“We understand how disappointing these changes are and we remain committed to making it right for our guests. We look forward to welcoming them back aboard for an unforgettable Princess vacation.

“We sincerely apologize for the disruption to our guests’ vacation plans and appreciate their understanding.”

This past fall, Princess Cruises canceled several sailings on Regal Princess due to issues with the ship’s power generators.

Regal Princess is currently homeporting in Galveston, Texas and sailing six- to 11-night cruises to the Western Caribbean. In early April, the ship will sail a Transatlantic cruise to Southampton before entering dry dock.

Disney Cruise Line Reveals More Details On Upcoming Fleet Additions

Disney Cruise Line has revealed more details on some of its new ships that had previously been announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.

Disney Cruise Line 13 ships

We now know that the cruise line’s expansion will include a fourth Wish-class ship and three smaller, environmentally focused vessels, promising to bring new experiences and destinations to Disney fans worldwide.

The fourth Wish-class ship, joining the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny, is set to debut in 2027.

Like its predecessors, it will be powered by liquified natural gas (LNG) and accommodate 4,000 passengers, with a gross tonnage of 144,000. The ship will continue Disney’s tradition of blending immersive storytelling with state-of-the-art technology.

The three smaller ships, scheduled for delivery in 2029, 2030, and 2031, will introduce a new class of vessels to Disney’s fleet.

These ships will be 100,000 gross tons with the capacity for 3,000 guests, offering a more intimate cruising experience compared to Disney’s larger vessels.

Despite their smaller size, these ships will be approximately 20% larger than Disney’s original ships, Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, and will feature advanced designs to align with Disney’s sustainability goals.

Innovation and sustainability as a focus

The smaller ships will be equipped to use alternative fuels such as hydrotreated vegetable oil and renewable methanol, with adaptability for future energy innovations.

In addition, the ships will utilize next-generation power and propulsion systems to optimize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

Shore power capabilities will also enable the vessels to run their onboard systems without engines while docked.

“Our team of Disney Imagineers is dreaming up this new class of ships to be as fuel and energy-efficient as possible,”

Philip Gennotte, Portfolio Project Management Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering.

This initiative aligns with Disney’s broader environmental goals for 2030, which include achieving zero waste to landfills and eliminating single-use plastics on wholly owned cruise ships by 2025.

The fleet expansion will allow Disney Cruise Line to broaden its global footprint.

Starting in late 2025, the Disney Adventure will homeport in Singapore, marking Disney’s first presence in Southeast Asia.

Additionally, a new ship, created in partnership with Tokyo Disneyland’s operator Oriental Land Co. Ltd., will homeport in Japan, offering voyages tailored to the Japanese market.

With the addition of smaller ships, Disney can explore destinations suited to mid-size vessels, enabling guests to experience unique locales inaccessible to larger ships.

Disney Cruise Line’s rapid growth is driven by its loyal fan base and commitment to family-focused cruising.

According to Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro, Disney pioneered the family cruise segment when it launched in 1998.

Today, 40% of Disney Cruise Line guests cite the company’s presence as their primary reason for choosing to cruise.

Despite its popularity, Disney remains a relatively small player in the global cruise industry, representing just 2.5% of the market as of late 2024.

With seven new ships planned, Disney is poised to significantly increase its market share and attract a wider range of travellers.

As Disney Cruise Line prepares to nearly double its fleet, the company is setting new standards for family-friendly cruising and sustainable travel.

From expanded itineraries to cutting-edge ship designs, the future looks bright for Disney’s loyal fans and newcomers alike.

Two Cruise Lines Offer No-Fee Cancellations for LA Residents Due to Fires

Due to the impact of the ongoing fires in and around Los Angeles, California, several cruise lines have decided to eliminate all cancellation fees for local residents.

Most cruise lines have a tiered cancellation fee schedule, with higher fees the closer you get to the sailing date.  With cancellations over 90 days out, guests typically will only lose their deposit and pay a small fee on top of it.

But Norwegian Cruise Line and Princess Cruises are cutting the red tape associated with cruise cancellations, as the fires in LA continue to impact the entire region.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Even though Norwegian Cruise Line does not currently operate any ships that sail out of the LA area, the company said it would waive any cancellation fees and offer 100% of future cruise credit for sailings in January and February.

This is offered to any Norwegian guest that calls Los Angeles home.  So, even if an LA resident had a Norwegian cruise sailing out of Seattle or Miami during this time period, they would be allowed to take advantage of this offer.

“Our hearts and thoughts are with all of those impacted by the wildfires affecting the greater Los Angeles region. While we currently do not have any ships sailing from the region, it is affecting many of our guests that call the area home,” Norwegian said in a statement.

“During this time, we will be waiving any cancelation fees for guests who have been impacted by this devastation and are currently booked to sail with us during the months of January and February. They will receive a 100% future cruise credit of the fare paid, so they can reschedule their voyage to a later date when they are ready.”

Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises is also offering to help LA residents with 100% future cruise credit to any guests who live in evacuated areas or whose homes have been damaged by the fires.

This is offered to cruise guests who have a scheduled cruise with Princess through January 30, 2025.

In addition to future cruise credit, the company is also refunding shore excursions booked through the cruise line.

Princess Cruises is still able to operate at full capacity in the region and made a statement regarding the situation in California:

“While the Los Angeles World Cruise Center and Los Angeles International Airport remain fully operational and unaffected by the fires, we are keenly aware of the hardships faced by many in our community,” the cruise line said in an email.

As of this morning, the Palisades Fire in LA is 14% contained, the Eaton Fire is at 33%, and the Hurst Fire has reached 97% containment. A new fire, the Auto Fire in Ventura County, is at 0% containment, with firefighters having stopped its forward progress so far.

Los Angeles is facing heightened fire risks due to strong Santa Ana winds expected through Wednesday, with gusts up to 70 mph, potentially worsening current fires.

Does WhatsApp Work On Cruise Ships?

While you’re on a cruise ship, you’re likely going to want to stay in touch with people – either your friends and family back home or, more importantly, the group that you’re travelling with.

Me using whatsapp on a cruise

Cruise ships are large, and if you’re separated from your group for an activity, then you want to easily be able to update each other and make plans on when and where to meet up again.

A lot of people rely on WhatsApp at home for their messaging services – but how does it work on a cruise ship?

Can You Use Whatsapp on a Cruise?

You can use WhatsApp on a cruise ship, but only when you are online – so either when you’re connected to a WiFi package, or when you’re close enough to land to have a mobile data signal.

WhatsApp may appear to work without an internet connection – it will open and let you type and ‘send’ messages, but the messages will only actually be sent to the recipient when you’re online.

If your message has a single tick next to it, that means it’s pending. Only when it has two grey ticks has it been sent to the recipient. Two blue ticks means they’ve seen it.

Is Whatsapp Free on a Cruise Ship?

By default, WhatsApp is not free on a cruise ship. You need to be online, and most cruise lines charge for internet access, unless you have a special fare that includes WiFi access.

If you’re close enough to land then, in theory, you can use your mobile data, but beware of roaming charges – most providers will charge you extra to use your mobile abroad, including internet data. I recommend that you always have your phone on Airplane Mode while at sea to prevent any accidental roaming charges.

You don’t need a lot of data for using WhatsApp on cruise ship holidays, so for cruise lines that offer tiered internet packages, you can use the lowest one and you should be fine sending messages back and forth. As an example, the Royal Caribbean Voom Surf package is ideal, while the Voom Surf + Stream package is overkill – providing you stick to written messages only.

If your cruise line offers internet that charges you by the data used or by the minute, you could switch on the internet, send your message, and then switch it off again – reconnecting again in a little while to check for replies. However most cruise lines don’t charge in this way, and instead, just charge an all-inclusive per-day rate.

What You Need To Know About Using WhatsApp on a Cruise

Here are some things you need to know about using WhatsApp on a cruise.

1. Some Internet Packages Will Block Video/Audio Calls

Depending on which cruise line you’re sailing with, and which internet package you choose, you might be blocked from making video calls or audio calls through WhatsApp. Some are designed with limited bandwidth to only let you use text messaging.

Even if you were able to make video calls, the speed of the internet might make it impossible. So, the best thing to do is stick to using Whatsapp text messages only.

2. Cruise Lines Often Have A Free Alternative

You might not need to use WhatsApp if you’re only planning on chatting with people you’re sailing with. Some cruise lines have a mobile app that you can use without paying for WiFi, which usually includes a messaging service.

It’s not the best – many of them don’t give you notifications, so you have to go into the app to check if someone has messaged you. But if you’ve no plans to use the internet for anything else, you can save money by using one of these apps.

3. Not All Mobile Networks Charge For Roaming

Depending on your mobile provider and, more importantly, your destination, you might not have roaming charges – which means that as long as you’re near enough to port, you can use WhatsApp with your included data.

UK cruisers can use it on sailings around the UK, while some providers still don’t charge roaming fees in Europe. Cruise passengers from the US don’t tend to get free roaming but can pay a low flat fee per day with some providers.

The Bottom Line

If you’re dead-set on using WhatsApp throughout your cruise, you’re going to need an internet package. It might be worth checking whether there are fares for your cruise line that include your WiFi, as sometimes that can be cheaper.

Bear in mind that you normally have to pay for WiFi for the whole cruise – you can’t always buy a single-day pass.

It’s worth considering the free alternatives on cruise lines that have a messaging service built into their app. Or if you just want to find out where your other cabinmates are, Princess Cruises does offer the Medallion service, which even lets you track them around the ship!
