Could Catalina Sugar Beach Become The Caribbean’s Next Must-Visit Destination?

New details have emerged about Catalina Sugar Beach, the newly renamed beach destination on Catalina Island, just off the coast of La Romana in the Dominican Republic.

Developed in partnership with CTL Maritime and Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, the destination is undergoing a major transformation—but many of its most anticipated features have yet to be revealed. Set to open in November 2026, Catalina Sugar Beach aims to become one of the Caribbean’s most exciting new leisure escapes.

Catalina Sugar Beach

The destination can be enjoyed by cruise ship guests, including those sailings with MSC Cruises and Explora Journeys, as well as guests staying at Casa de Campo Resort & Villas. MSC Cruises commences weekly sailings from its new La Romana homeport in November, with MSC Opera calling at the new Sugar Beach destination on every itinerary.

The destination will offer an experience that showcases the island’s natural character and beauty as a protected natural monument in the Dominican Republic. Guests can expect to surrender to some of the finest while-sand beaches and crystal blue waters in the region, alongside new experiences and elevated amenities to make it the ultimate beach escape.

Shore excursions will offer the opportunity to get even closer to nature and include a relaxing catamaran exploration of the surrounding waters, snorkeling to see the flourishing marine life the island is famous for, boat trips to Isla Saona Island or visits to the nearby Cave of Wonders and Altos de Chavón. Guests wishing to stay and enjoy Catalina Sugar Beach’s beautiful surroundings can opt to elevate their experience with one of the new cabanas on offer.

Catalina Sugar Beach guest experience highlights include:

  • Dining Facilities – A signature open-air beach pavilion buffet will be the central dining hub of the island, offering international dishes and local specialties. An adjacent shaded dining area offers comfortable al-fresco table seating with panoramic sea views.
  • Beverage Facilities – Two bars will be on offer including a tropical open-air palapa bar that will welcome guests with refreshments and act as a shaded social pavilion with ocean views.
  • Water Sports Center – The center point for guests wishing to explore the surrounding clear waters, with equipment available to rent.
  • Cabanas – The island will be equipped with comfortable daybeds and cabanas available for rent, offering the most comfortable way to enjoy a day at Catalina Sugar Beach.
  • Upgraded Facilities – Functional facilities across the island will be upgraded, with comfortable, stylish changing, shower and WC services.
  • A picturesque pathway – wind through the island’s lush natural landscape to a dramatic viewpoint, with educational signage along the route inviting guests to discover and learn more about the island’s diverse tree species. Along the pathway, elevated clearings within the vegetation will offer scenic views overlooking the beach and surrounding island landscape.

MSC Cruises will begin sailing from La Romana with stops at Catalina Sugar Beach in November, marking the first time the cruise line has offered year-round sailings in the Southern Caribbean. MSC Opera will operate weekly departures with seven-night sailings or the option for guests to extend their cruise for a back-to-back 14-night ‘butterfly’ cruise.

Explora Journeys calls to Catalina Sugar Beach on select Caribbean Journeys.

Disney Reveals Plans to Reach 13 Cruise Ships by 2030 (3 Ships in 2029 Alone)

Tucked away in Disney’s earnings report this morning was a graphic that Disney Cruise Line fans should find particularly interesting.

The graphic revealed that the cruise line plans to speed up delivery dates for future ships, ushering in three new cruise ships in 2029 alone, and reaching thirteen ships in the fleet by 2030.

Disney Cruise Line currently operates eight ships. To get to thirteen ships is almost a 63% increase.

With three new ships introduced into the fleet in just the last three years (Treasure, Destiny, Adventure), Disney is already ramping up the cruise side of its business. And the company’s latest earnings report shows no plans of slowing down.

Sharing the initial results from their newest vessels, Disney noted in their quarterly update:

“Fiscal Q3 was the first full quarter with our two newest cruise ships, the Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure. Together, these ships increased stateroom capacity by approximately 50% compared to the prior-year quarter and we remain encouraged by current occupancy and forward bookings. We are looking forward to bringing additional cruise capacity online in the years ahead.”

A graphic in the PDF of the earnings report gives us a clear look at when we can expect the next five ships to arrive:

Disney has not yet announced official names for the OLC-operated ship or the three smaller vessels. But we’re hoping details will be coming soon, and Cruise Fever will be sure to let everyone know the new information.

Husband and Wife Sold Their Houses to Live on Cruise Ships Full Time

There are a few different ways to live on a cruise ship. While there are a handful of cruise lines that sell cabins you can buy and live in full time, other cruisers get more creative and ship-hop on different ships and cruise lines.

This past week, Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador John Heald took a cruise on Carnival Vista. While he was on the ship, he sat down to talk with a husband and wife, Malcom and Robyn, who sold their homes to live on ships full-time.

Malcolm and Robyn had a home in England and one in Florida that they sold. They briefly moved to the Dominican Republic before becoming permanent cruisers in October 2024.

While they mainly sail on Carnival cruise ships, as this was their 75th cruise with them, they do sail on other cruise lines as well.

When one cruise ends, they get off one ship and go board another. Coming up, they will fly to Europe to cruise in the Mediterranean before taking a Transatlantic cruise back to the U.S.

Malcolm said they have a sailing on Carnival Legend booked out of Dover that ends in Rome. They will spend 30 days on the ship sailing back-to-back-to-back cruises. They will then sail on Carnival’s sister cruise line, Princess Cruises, over to Barcelona.

A Transatlantic cruise on Carnival Freedom will bring them back to Florida, where they will do several more cruises on Carnival Vista before sailing from Miami.

Carnival Miami

In early 2027, the couple will head to L.A. for Carnival Firenze’s South America cruises where they will spend 45 straight days on the ship.

The couple said that they keep a spreadsheet of all of their upcoming cruises.

Malcolm and Robyn do take short breaks here and there from cruising. The couple plans on taking two weeks off coming up to see Robyn’s children; this will be their longest time on land since October 2024.

The couple told Heald that the thing they miss most about not living on land is their children. They do get to FaceTime them while at sea, but they will get to see them next month.

Heald asked them what they enjoy the most about permanently living on cruise ships. She said it’s the ability to travel all over the world. They have cruised to Australia, Iceland, New Zealand, Japan, and Alaska.

“It’s the best way to travel, you see everything.”

Malcolm chimed in and said it’s meeting fellow passengers and the crew; they are fantastic. He added that they love seeing the same crew over and over, and a few times they changed ships and a few crew members just happened to move with them.

Heald joked with the couple that they should start a travel blog since they cruise and see so many interesting places around the world.

The interview ended when he asked the couple how long they think they will continue to live on cruise ships.

They were supposed to be done in June, but they kept adding on more cruises. The couple is currently booked through February 26, 2027, but will likely add on a few more sailings.

Malcolm said that they will likely cruise for another year before moving back on land.

This has us wondering, could you, or would you want to live on a cruise ship full time?

Beloved Captain Steps Away From Command To Care For Father

Captain Kate McCue, one of the world’s most recognisable cruise ship captains, has resigned from her position at Four Seasons Yachts to spend more time with family following the unexpected death of her mother and her father’s ongoing health needs.

The announcement, made via social media on 5th August 2026, marks a significant pause in a 30-year maritime career that has made her an icon in the cruise industry.

Captain Kate McCue

McCue’s decision to step away from active command comes after a period of profound personal loss and reflection. When she began her leave in April 2026, she had planned to care for her father following major back surgery.

However, the unexpected passing of her mother in June changed everything.

“That’s honestly when I realised that I’d spent the majority of the last year away from home because I was working,” McCue explained in her announcement video.

The loss prompted her to reassess her priorities after three decades spent predominantly at sea, away from loved ones during critical moments.

The captain framed her decision with characteristic positivity, captioning her video announcement with the words: “Sometimes life changes the course. After 30 years at sea, I’m making more room for family, joy and new adventures, including experiencing cruising from the other side for a change.”

Breaking Barriers In A Male-Dominated Industry

Captain Kate McCue’s maritime career has been nothing short of groundbreaking. Over the past 30 years, she has risen through the ranks in an industry that has historically been dominated by men, spending the last 11 years serving in the prestigious role of captain.

Her accomplishments extend beyond simply commanding vessels – she has delivered two new ships and collaborated on prototype vessel development, contributing to innovation in modern cruise ship design and operations.

Captain Kate McCue

McCue first gained widespread recognition during her tenure with Celebrity Cruises, where she became the first American woman to captain a major cruise line’s mega-ship.

Her appointment was met with both celebration and scrutiny, but she quickly proved her capabilities and became a beloved figure amongst passengers and crew alike.

Her transition to Four Seasons Yachts in 2025 represented another milestone, as the luxury yacht brand sought to leverage her expertise and public profile for their expansion into the cruise market.

Cruise Hive reported on her resignation from Celebrity Cruises in February 2025, at which time she expressed her intention to continue sailing in some capacity.

The Social Media Captain With Over One Million Followers

What truly sets McCue apart from other maritime professionals is her unprecedented engagement with the public through social media platforms. With more than one million followers across various channels, she has demystified life at sea and brought the cruise experience to audiences who might never step foot on a ship.

Her Instagram announcement video garnered more than 32,000 likes within just a few hours, along with over 2,400 comments from well-wishers and former passengers who fondly remembered sailing under her command.

This level of engagement demonstrates the personal connection she has fostered with cruise enthusiasts worldwide.

Throughout her social media presence, McCue has consistently shared inspirational insights aimed at empowering women pursuing maritime careers.

Her posts blend professional accomplishments with personal moments, creating an authentic narrative that resonates with followers from all walks of life.

She has used her platform to advocate for diversity in the maritime industry and to encourage young women to pursue their dreams regardless of traditional gender barriers.

Academic Recognition And Industry Honours

McCue’s influence extends beyond the deck of a ship and into academic circles. In May 2026, California State University Maritime Academy honoured her with a Doctorate of Science degree, recognising her leadership and innovation within the maritime industry.

This honorary degree acknowledges not only her technical expertise but also her role as a trailblazer who has fundamentally changed perceptions about women in maritime command positions.

The recognition from such a prestigious maritime institution underscores the significance of her contributions to the industry.

Maritime academies have traditionally been male-dominated environments, and the decision to honour McCue reflects the changing landscape she has helped to create.

Her career serves as a case study for aspiring maritime professionals, demonstrating that excellence and determination can overcome longstanding industry biases.

Bug Naked And Willie: The Feline Companions At Sea

For many of McCue’s followers, her adventures have been inseparable from those of her distinctive feline companions. Bug Naked, her elf-eared sphynx cat, became nearly as famous as the captain herself during their time together on Celebrity Cruises.

Bug Naked, Captain Kate McCue's cat, passes away

The unusual cat accompanied McCue throughout her tenure, appearing in countless social media posts and becoming a beloved mascot for passengers who sailed on her ships.

Tragically, Bug Naked passed away suddenly in December 2024 from health complications following a routine dental procedure.

The loss deeply affected McCue and her followers, many of whom had grown attached to the quirky cat through regular updates and photos.

In April 2026, McCue was united with Willie, another elf-eared sphynx cat who happens to be a littermate to Bug Naked.

Willie was rehomed to McCue from another owner who wanted to ensure the cat received the best possible life when her own circumstances changed.

The reunion with Bug Naked’s sibling provided a meaningful connection to her beloved former companion whilst opening a new chapter in her life.

Willie is expected to accompany McCue on her upcoming adventures, both at sea and on land, continuing the tradition of feline companionship that has characterised her social media presence.

Cruising From The Guest Perspective

Whilst McCue is stepping away from active command, she has made it clear that her relationship with the sea is far from over.

She plans to help her father fulfil items on his bucket list, which includes cruise vacations.

Four Seasons I

However, this time she will experience cruising from an entirely different vantage point – as a passenger rather than the person in charge.

“I’ve got too much salt in my veins to leave the sea behind,” she said when announcing her departure from Celebrity Cruises in February 2025, a sentiment that clearly still holds true.

McCue has indicated that she and her father will be trying different types of vessels during their travels, though she has not confirmed specific plans regarding particular cruise lines or destinations.

This transition from captain to guest will likely provide McCue with unique insights into the passenger experience, potentially informing any future role she might take within the maritime industry.

Many industry observers believe her perspective as both commander and cruiser could prove invaluable should she choose to pursue consulting, speaking engagements, or other maritime-related opportunities.

Maintaining Maritime Credentials For Future Opportunities

Despite stepping away from active duty, McCue has confirmed that she is keeping her captain’s licence active, leaving the door open for a potential return to command.

“Sailing again is absolutely not off the table but for now there are so many new adventures ahead,” she explained in her announcement.

Maintaining an active maritime licence requires ongoing education, medical certifications, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

McCue’s decision to keep her credentials current suggests that whilst family is her priority now, she envisions a future where she might return to professional sailing in some capacity.

The cruise industry has evolved significantly in recent years, with new opportunities emerging for experienced maritime professionals beyond traditional captain roles.

McCue’s unique combination of technical expertise, public profile, and industry connections position her well for various potential paths, whether in ship design consultation, safety protocol development, industry advocacy, or executive leadership positions.

Industry Impact And Legacy

Captain Kate McCue’s decision to prioritise family over career at this juncture in her life sends a powerful message about work-life balance in an industry known for demanding schedules and extended periods away from home.

Cruise ship officers and crew members often spend six to nine months at sea, with limited time off between contracts.

This lifestyle, whilst rewarding professionally, can take a significant toll on personal relationships and family connections.

Her transparency about the reasons for her resignation – the realisation that she had spent the majority of the past year away from home during a critical time for her family – highlights the very real sacrifices that maritime professionals make.

By speaking openly about these challenges, McCue continues her tradition of breaking down barriers and addressing issues that many in the industry face but few discuss publicly.

The cruise industry will undoubtedly feel the absence of such a prominent and capable leader.

However, the path she has carved and the example she has set will continue to inspire future generations of maritime professionals, particularly women who aspire to command positions.

Her legacy extends beyond her time at the helm to encompass a fundamental shift in how the industry views diversity, leadership, and the importance of authentic communication with passengers.

As McCue embarks on this new chapter focused on family, joy, and experiencing the seas from a different perspective, her influence on the maritime world remains secure.

Whether she returns to active command in the future or pursues other opportunities within the industry, her contributions have permanently altered the landscape of modern cruising, making it more inclusive, more accessible, and more human.

Carnival Suspends Platinum Benefits For Eclipse Voyage

Carnival Cruise Line has suspended several key Platinum-tier benefits for passengers booked on Carnival Legend’s groundbreaking solar eclipse sailing departing 9th August 2026 from Dover.

The 11-night voyage, timed to coincide with a total solar eclipse on 12th August, marks the first time the cruise line has eliminated priority embarkation, debarkation, early stateroom access, and early luggage drop-off services for its loyalty programme members on a single sailing.

The decision affects what is expected to be one of the most heavily-booked voyages in Carnival’s European deployment, with hundreds of Platinum-level VIFP (Very Important Fun Person) members anticipated on board.

Unprecedented Demand Drives Operational Changes

The removal of standard Platinum benefits represents an unusual step for Carnival Cruise Line, which has built customer loyalty partly on the promise of priority services for frequent cruisers.

Industry observers note that such widespread suspension of loyalty perks is rare across the cruise sector, typically reserved only for extraordinary circumstances involving capacity constraints.

Carnival’s decision to curtail these services stems from operational realities.

With hundreds of Platinum guests expected aboard Carnival Legend for the eclipse sailing, the cruise line determined that offering priority embarkation and debarkation to such a large segment of passengers would effectively negate the “priority” element entirely.

The situation creates a logistical challenge where too many guests holding the same priority status undermines the system’s functionality.

The operational adjustments extend beyond just this single sailing, according to the announcement, with Carnival making similar modifications to other popular voyages where Platinum membership saturation threatens to overwhelm port operations and embarkation procedures.

Total Solar Eclipse At Sea Proves Major Draw

The 12th August 2026 total solar eclipse represents a celestial event of significant magnitude, with the moon’s shadow creating a path of totality across the North Atlantic.

Carnival Legend’s itinerary has been carefully crafted to position the vessel within the optimal viewing zone during the eclipse window, weather conditions permitting.

Total solar eclipses occur when the moon passes directly between Earth and the sun, completely blocking the sun’s disk and revealing the solar corona in a dramatic display visible only along a narrow path.

The 2026 eclipse will traverse the Atlantic Ocean, making shipboard viewing an attractive option for eclipse enthusiasts who might otherwise need to travel to remote coastal locations in Iceland, Greenland, or northern Spain.

For astronomy enthusiasts and casual observers alike, experiencing totality from a cruise ship offers distinct advantages.

The vessel’s mobility allows for potential repositioning should weather forecasts indicate better viewing conditions along a different point of the eclipse path.

Additionally, the open ocean environment typically provides unobstructed horizon-to-horizon views without the light pollution or geographical obstacles that can compromise land-based observations.

Enhanced Programming Expected Around Astronomical Event

Enhanced Programming Expected Around Astronomical Event

Whilst Carnival has not released comprehensive details about onboard programming for the eclipse sailing, industry patterns suggest the cruise line will develop specialized activities and educational content around the celestial phenomenon.

Previous eclipse cruises offered by various cruise lines have featured astronomer guest speakers, telescope viewing sessions, and interactive presentations about solar science.

The unique nature of this sailing positions it as both a standard cruise holiday and a specialized astronomical event.

Passengers can anticipate themed activities, potentially including eclipse countdown events, protective viewing glasses distribution, and dedicated deck spaces for optimal observation during totality.

Educational programming aboard such voyages typically begins several days before the eclipse, with experts providing background on solar physics, eclipse mechanics, and photography techniques for capturing the event.

Special eclipse-themed entertainment, decorations, and even menu items have become standard features on previous astronomical cruises across the industry.

Dover Departure Marks Strategic UK Positioning

Dover Departure Marks Strategic UK Positioning

Carnival Legend’s departure from Dover positions the vessel strategically for both the eclipse viewing and an exploration of Western European destinations.

The port of Dover has served as an increasingly important homeport for cruise lines targeting the UK market and offering convenient embarkation for British passengers seeking European itineraries without requiring flights.

The 11-night sailing incorporates calls at culturally rich destinations including France, Guernsey, Spain, and Portugal.

This combination of astronomical wonder and traditional European port experiences creates a multifaceted appeal for potential passengers, blending natural phenomenon observation with destination exploration.

Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands, offers visitors charming harbour towns, World War II history, and distinctive island culture.

The French ports on the itinerary provide access to everything from medieval architecture to culinary experiences and wine regions.

Spanish and Portuguese calls round out the journey with Iberian Peninsula highlights, potentially including cities like Bilbao, Vigo, or Lisbon, depending on the specific itinerary configuration.

VIFP Programme Sunset Adds Urgency To Booking

The August 2026 eclipse sailing carries additional significance as it represents one of the final opportunities for passengers to utilize benefits under Carnival’s existing VIFP loyalty programme.

The cruise line announced previously that the VIFP programme will conclude in August, with a transition to a new loyalty structure expected to follow.

For long-time Carnival cruisers who have accumulated Platinum or higher status through years of sailing, the eclipse voyage offers a symbolic final journey under the familiar loyalty framework.

The programme’s sunset has created a sense of urgency among dedicated Carnival passengers seeking to maximize their accumulated benefits before the transition.

Carnival’s VIFP programme has operated on a tiered structure rewarding passengers based on cruise points earned through completed sailings.

Benefits have escalated through colour-coded levels from Blue (entry level) through Red, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond, with each tier offering progressively enhanced perks including priority boarding, behind-the-scenes tours, exclusive party invitations, and complimentary items.

The programme’s impending conclusion represents the end of an era for Carnival’s loyalty approach, though the cruise line has indicated a replacement programme will launch to continue rewarding repeat passengers.

Details of the new structure remain limited, creating speculation about how benefits and qualification thresholds might change.

Carnival Legend Profile And Fleet Position

Carnival Legend Profile And Fleet Position

Carnival Legend represents one of the smaller vessels in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet, part of the Spirit-class configuration that includes three other ships.

Delivered in 2002, the vessel measures approximately 88,500 gross tonnes and accommodates around 2,100 passengers at double occupancy, with capacity expanding to approximately 2,680 when fully booked.

The Spirit-class vessels were designed with a focus on slightly more intimate cruising compared to Carnival’s mega-ships, whilst maintaining the cruise line’s signature Fun Ship philosophy.

Legend features a range of dining venues, entertainment options, and recreational facilities including pools, a waterslide, mini-golf, and the line’s signature RedFrog Pub.

The ship underwent refurbishment as part of Carnival’s ongoing fleet enhancement programme, receiving updates to public spaces, staterooms, and dining venues.

These renovations help maintain the vessel’s competitive position despite its age relative to newer fleet additions.

Carnival Legend’s European deployment for summer 2026 represents a seasonal positioning common among cruise lines, with vessels relocated from Caribbean or other winter markets to capitalize on Mediterranean and Northern European demand during warmer months.

The eclipse sailing represents a highlight of this European season, offering a voyage unlike standard port-to-port itineraries.

Industry Context For Eclipse Cruise Demand

Industry Context For Eclipse Cruise Demand

The cruise industry has recognized astronomical events as powerful booking drivers, with eclipse cruises consistently selling at premium rates with strong advance demand.

The 2024 total solar eclipse across North America saw cruise lines positioning vessels in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean to capture the path of totality, with those sailings achieving near-complete bookings months in advance.

Eclipse cruises appeal to a diverse passenger demographic, attracting both astronomy enthusiasts willing to travel specifically for the celestial event and traditional cruisers who appreciate the added value of experiencing something extraordinary during their holiday.

This dual appeal creates broader market penetration than specialized theme cruises targeting narrower interest groups.

The rarity of total solar eclipses contributes significantly to demand.

Whilst partial eclipses occur relatively frequently, total eclipses visible from any given location happen only once every several centuries on average.

The combination of scarcity and spectacle creates urgency among those interested in witnessing totality, particularly when a cruise offers the flexibility to optimize viewing conditions through repositioning.

Previous eclipse cruises have commanded pricing premiums of 20 to 40 percent above comparable non-eclipse sailings on similar itineraries.

The specialized nature and limited availability justify higher fares whilst simultaneously attracting passengers who might not otherwise book that particular sailing or cruise line.

Passenger Considerations And Booking Implications

For prospective passengers evaluating whether to book Carnival Legend’s eclipse sailing despite the suspended Platinum benefits, several factors merit consideration.

The celestial event itself represents the primary draw, offering an experience that transcends typical cruise amenities and loyalty programme perks.

Weather remains the significant variable in eclipse viewing, with cloud cover potentially obscuring the phenomenon despite optimal positioning.

Historical meteorological data for the North Atlantic in mid-August shows variable conditions, with no guarantee of clear skies.

This inherent uncertainty forms part of eclipse chasing, whether on land or at sea.

The suspended benefits primarily affect embarkation and debarkation convenience rather than onboard experiences.

Platinum members will still likely receive their cabin-level benefits, milestone recognition, and other perks not related to port operations.

For many loyalty programme members, the opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse may outweigh the temporary loss of priority boarding privileges.

Passengers should also weigh the cultural and scenic value of the European itinerary itself.

France, Guernsey, Spain, and Portugal offer rich experiences independent of the eclipse, providing destination diversity that justifies the voyage even if astronomical viewing proves disappointing due to weather.

The timing in August positions the cruise during peak European summer season, with generally favourable weather conditions for exploring ports, albeit with larger tourist crowds at major attractions.

The 11-night duration provides ample time for meaningful port exploration whilst building anticipation for the eclipse viewing day.

EXPLORA III Sets Sail From Barcelona Following Official Naming Ceremony

Explora Journeys is celebrating a major fleet milestone as EXPLORA III departs Barcelona following her official naming ceremony. The new luxury ship now begins her inaugural season, continuing the brand’s mission to redefine ultra-elegant ocean travel.

Following an elegant Naming Ceremony held alongside the new MSC Cruise Division Terminal in Barcelona, EXPLORA III departed on her Maiden Journey to Lisbon in a memorable moment for the brand. As she left the city, she was accompanied by sister ship EXPLORA I, with the two ships sailing together before setting course on their respective Journeys—an inspiring tribute to the continued growth of the Explora Journeys fleet.

The departure marks another important chapter for Explora Journeys, with three ships now sailing across the world’s oceans. EXPLORA III is the brand’s first LNG-powered ship and introduces an even greater expression of space and thoughtful design, further elevating the experience for guests.

Her inaugural season has been carefully designed to reveal some of the world’s most remarkable destinations through the lens of slower, more immersive ocean travel. Following her Maiden Journey from Barcelona to Lisbon, EXPLORA III will sail through Northern Europe, exploring the Baltic Sea, the Norwegian fjords, Iceland and Greenland before crossing the Atlantic to Canada and New England. Along the way, guests will enjoy longer stays, enriching destination experiences and thoughtfully curated itineraries that invite a deeper connection with every place visited.

“Watching EXPLORA III set sail on her inaugural season is an incredibly proud and emotional moment for everyone at Explora Journeys,” said Anna Nash, President of Explora Journeys. “From the very beginning, our vision has been to create an entirely new category of ocean travel—one centred on space, elegance, intuitive hospitality and meaningful experiences. EXPLORA III beautifully embodies that vision. Seeing her depart Barcelona, accompanied by EXPLORA I, is a powerful reminder of how far we have come and of the exciting journey that still lies ahead.”

Delivered by Fincantieri in Genoa on July 23, EXPLORA III has already celebrated a remarkable series of firsts. The ship welcomed World No. 1 tennis player and Explora Journeys Global Brand Ambassador Jannik Sinner as her first guest during an exclusive Prelude Journey, before being officially named in Barcelona. Now, as she begins welcoming guests on her inaugural season, EXPLORA III introduces new culinary concepts, enhanced Ocean Wellness experiences, expanded public spaces and a second Owner’s Residence designed by renowned architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.

The launch of EXPLORA III represents another significant step in the brand’s long-term vision, with a fleet of six ships scheduled to be in service by 2028. Every new ship builds on the experience of those before it, continually refining the Explora Journeys promise of exceptional space, intuitive hospitality and transformative ocean travel.
