Scenic Eclipse Undergoing Urgent Repair Work Following Cruise Cancellations

Luxury cruise ship Scenic Eclipse I is currently undergoing urgent repairs in Galveston, Texas.

Scenic Eclipse Antarctica

This vessel, which can accommodate 228 passengers and has a gross tonnage of 17,545, requires maintenance to replace one of its two Azipod propulsion units.

These units are crucial for the ship’s navigation through the icy waters of Antarctica, a region where the ship is set to return in November.

Repair work commenced on 28th October 2024 and is expected to last between two to six weeks.

The urgency of the situation is being addressed by coordinating with the Azipod manufacturers and utilising a chartered cargo plane so that the new Azipod can be delivered and fitted as quickly as possible.

Last month, the cruise line was forced to cancel three cruises between October and November that would’ve repositioned the ship, due to the propulsion issues.

The ship was initially set to reposition from the Caribbean to Argentina, starting with a 13-night cruise from Nassau, Bahamas, on 24 October 2024, and concluding in Bridgetown, Barbados, on 5 November. It was then scheduled for a 12-night journey from Bridgetown to Rio de Janeiro, followed by a repositioning leg from 16 November to 27 November.

Despite these challenges, Scenic Eclipse I is preparing for its upcoming Antarctic season and will hopefully be ready to serve the guests in time.

Cruise Halloween Party Sparks Sprinkler Mayhem

A Halloween party taking place on Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas quickly turned from treat to trick, as it set off the sprinkler system on the main promenade.

Symphony of the Seas Sprinklers

During the ship’s 7 night cruise from Cape Liberty, guests were treated to a lively Halloween night, including a party held in the Royal Promenade, the main atrium area of the ship.

Witnesses onboard the ship say that the party included either fog machines or dry ice machines to help set the mood, but that these set off the sprinkler system.

“They use dry ice for Halloween which set off the smoke detectors, slamming the watertight doors down, trapping cruisers near the rising tide bar, and cafe promenade, which turned into a pool, while ruining people’s clothes, cell phones and costumes“

Reddit post from a witness

Despite guests being locked in the Royal Promenade for a soaking, some at least were able to find the humour in the situation. Online, the ship’s earned a nickname of “Sprinkler of the Seas”.

The good news is that nobody was injured during the incident and, thanks to the hard work of the crew, the Royal Promenade was completely fine by the following morning.

It’s not the first water-based mishap to hit the Oasis-class ships in recent times.

In 2022 on Wonder of the Seas’ maiden voyage, the sprinklers also went off in the Royal Promenade due to a malfunction.

And in 2023, Harmony of the Seas caused flooding over the Central Park area after making an abrupt turn to avoid an empty refugee raft, emptying the pools over the balconies of the inward-facing cabins.

Carnival Cruise Line Reveals How Often Bed Sheets Are Changed

Whether it’s new towels or fresh bed sheets, cabin stewards on a cruise ship stay busy making sure cruisers are comfortable and happy with their accommodations.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest news and deals: Sign Up

Carnival bed sheets

When a passenger wants fresh towels, they simply need to leave them on the bathroom floor and they will be replaced the next time the cabin is serviced.

But what about bed sheets?  How often are these linens replaced?

This morning, John Heald, Brand Ambassador for Carnival Cruise Line answered that question and asked for comments on the topic.

“I explained to somebody that our brilliant state room attendants will change the bedding in the cabin at least once every seven days, more if somebody requests it,” Heald wrote on his Facebook post.

“This apparently “horrified “a few people who said that we should be changing it a minimum of 2 to 3 times a week.”

In the comments to the social media post, most cruisers were satisfied with having the sheets replaced every seven days.

Some emphasized the environmental impact of having the sheets changed too often, and others simply wanted to make sure the sheets were clean on embarkation day.

Read more: Cruise cabin hacks: 25 tips for making your cabin more livable

Still, as Heald mentioned, there were several that wanted clean sheets more often simply because it was a vacation and not just another day at home.

One commenter stated, “Twice a week. Wasn’t so long ago that hotels would change your sheets everyday. I’m on vacation. I want new sheets more often than when I’m home. Sorry that’s how I feel about it.”

Since cruising is all about having a customized experience, those who want their sheets changed more often simply need to request it.

Carnival Cruise Line Snoozin sign on cabin door

Heald asked how often people change their bed sheets at home, and most of the replies stated that once a week was the norm.

Most cruise lines have cut back on cleaning staterooms twice a day as they did years ago.   This was to cut back on cost and also to better manage the time of the crew.

Cruise cabin stewards work incredibly hard to make sure passengers are happy.  Any extra work given to one of the crew should be accompanied by extra gratuity.

“If you are one of those people making your stateroom attendant change your sheets throughout your cruise, you should be tipping them [accordingly]! They already have so much to do in cleaning and making the beds,” one Facebook comment stated.

Carnival Adds New Mascot To Cruises, Themed Around Popular Onboard Hobby

Carnival Cruise Line, via Brand Ambassador John Heald, has announced that a new mascot will soon be joining the fleet – Ducky.

Carnival Ducky Mascot

Ducky is a duck mascot that is based on the popular hobby of hiding rubber/plastic ducks on cruise ships, an activity that many guests enjoy.

John Heald posted the news along with the photo of Ducky (above) alongside Pierre, the Carnival Jubilee Hotel Director, and Greg who is the Director of Guest Operations.

He announced that Ducky would be coming soon to all Carnival ships as a “continuation of the duck phenomenon”.

Most Carnival fans responded very positively to the news, posting comments about how they were excited to meet Ducky onboard their next Carnival cruise and get a photo with him.

However the feedback was not unanimously positive, and one comment had to be deleted by John Heald due to being “hateful”. It appears that the commenter had threatened to remove gratuities on their next cruise because of Ducky.

A very hateful comment, Amy. I understand not everybody is going to like this, but to say those words and to chastise the crew in such a way, sorry that’s why I deleted your commentThis duck is not going to be chasing you around the ship, it’s not going to be in your cabin. It’s not going to affect your cruise at all. So to threaten removal of gratuities because of this is quite honestly nonsense. My advice is enjoy your cruise and if you don’t want to have anything to do with the duck, don’t and instead going to do something that brings you fun and happiness.Cheers

It’s not clear when Ducky will join the Carnival fleet, but it’s a feature that can obviously be rolled out very quickly.

Jumping on the duck bandwagon

The fact that Carnival has decided to create a duck-themed mascot for their cruise fleet shows their position on the popular duck-hiding hobby onboard.

Many guests like to hide small ducks on their cruises for other guests to find, often with a tag attached encouraging photos to be shared on different social media groups.

Some people have even, in the past, added their Venmo or other payment details asking for tips – don’t worry, this is rare and most people just take part for fun!

There has often been misinformation spread about ducks on Carnival cruises, with some guests hearing that ducks would be removed by crew.

Some cruise lines do remove ducks, but Carnival allows guests to take part.

How To Cancel Your Wyndham Timeshare And Embrace New Travel Adventures

A Wyndham timeshare may have seemed like the perfect solution to your vacation needs when you bought it, but over time, things change. Perhaps we crave more freedom or want to see something other than the same resort walls. The uncertainty can make canceling a timeshare seem even more daunting.

Fortunately, that process doesn’t have to be scary. The proper information can move us from a timeshare burden to experiencing a new world of adventures. We are here to help you get the essential information on contracts and how to proceed legally from where one finds conflicts in this liberating way of travel. So let’s dive in here and learn what it takes to free yourself from timeshare bindings & cruise into new, more exciting places. When you’re ready for your next adventure, peruse this week’s top travel deals to see more offers on trips in the future.

Reading a Wyndham Timeshare Contract

Exiting Wyndham Timeshare Contracts can seem overwhelming, but the contract essentially lists essential ground rules that set expectations.

Key Terms and Conditions

Rescission periods can range from 3 to 10 days, with a few states allowing up to just under two weeks. Payments for the program, including fees and mortgages, must be current.

Common Cancellation Policies

Most policies offer a short window during which you can cancel without penalty. However, it becomes increasingly difficult to cancel over time, making expert advice or alternative solutions essential.

Reasons to Cancel a Wyndham Timeshare

Several reasons can lead to canceling a Wyndham timeshare. Understanding these reasons helps current or prospective timeshare owners understand what cancellation might entail. For those looking for detailed guidance on the cancellation process, it’s important to explore options such as how to cancel timeshare. This knowledge can empower owners to make informed decisions regarding their timeshare commitments.

Financial Considerations

Annual maintenance fees can become burdensome as financial situations change over the years. Individuals often find themselves concerned about mortgages or rental loans. Deficiency judgments can affect financial health long after foreclosure, tipping the scales in favor of cancellation.

Personal Lifestyle Changes

Life events can lead to rethinking timeshare ownership. Changes such as family dynamics, career pivots, or shifting travel priorities contribute to canceling a timeshare.

Looking for New Vacation Ideas

It makes traveling to new destinations on one’s terms more appealing. The need to be more flexible and enjoy other life experiences might prompt one to cancel his or her timeshare.

The Most Effective Way to Cancel Your Wyndham Timeshare

Canceling your Wyndham timeshare is not something you can do without being very careful about what you set up and agreed to in the first place. However, if done slowly and methodically, it can smoothly transition into other new travel experiences.

Call Wyndham to Cancel

Make sure to contact Wyndham directly to discuss your options and the process for canceling. Their customer service may help you with the process.

Key Documentation in Place

Be prepared to provide all supporting documentation: contracts, agreements, and any correspondence you have had with Wyndham.

What is the Rescission Period

Know how much time you have to exercise your right of rescission. Depending on your agreement, this period could be anywhere from 3 to 10 days, which means you are not locked in and can cancel without any fuss.

Seeking Professional Help

Canceling a Wyndham timeshare can be tricky, which is why it could be advisable to get some professional help. Lawyers and accountants can help sort out the legal and financial ramifications for a much smoother exit.

Joining a Timeshare Exit Company

Unlike laypeople, timeshare exit companies have particular expertise in dealing with Wyndham contracts. They work as middlemen to broker exits, representing some of the better-known and proven firms in our experience.

Timeshare Cancellation Legal Assistance

Alternatively, you may also consider seeking help from seasoned timeshare attorneys. When negotiating, they can help you with the semantics of your contract and identify loopholes or protect your interests.

Other Types of Vacations

Once you are free from the bonds of a timeshare, worlds open up for more vacation experiences. In the Airbnb marketplace, thousands of homestays are available for your consideration, just as many international hotel chains offer multiple travel destinations.

The Pros of Traveling With Loose Plans

Travel flexibility opens up so many opportunities. There isn’t much sharper than on-demand travel nailing your plan and often enjoying last-minute offers at a money-saving rate.

Conclusion

Wyndham timeshare elimination may sound impossible, but there is a way out. Understanding your contract and seeking help when necessary will enable you to navigate this process confidently. This newly unburdened you will make all your maddening trips on your terms and at the time desired by only you. Relax and embark on a fresh travel journey!

We’re Doubling Your Future Cruise Credit

Princess Cruises has decided to double the Future Cruise Credit amount that guests will receive who were booked on the two canceled cruises on Regal Princess.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest news and deals: Sign Up

Regal Princess cruise ship

Regal Princess has been stuck in Galveston due to repairs that need to be made to the ship. The October 27 and November 3 cruises have been canceled.

The cruise line said that “essential technical repairs” are needed to the ship and the cancelations of the cruises were necessary.

Initially, Princess Cruises was giving all guests who were booked on these two cruises a full refund and a 25% credit towards a future cruise.

The cruise line is doubling that amount and guests will now receive a 50% credit of their cruise fare to use for a future cruise. This is in addition to the full refund.

The FCC (Future Cruise Credit) is good on all Princess sailings through May 31, 2026 as long as it’s booked by May 31, 2025.

Also, guests who booked one of the cruise line’s all-inclusive packages, Princess Plus and Premier Package, will still receive double cruise credits as part of the Captain’s Circle Loyalty Accelerator promotion. Guests staying in full suites will receive loyalty points x4.

Princess Cruises sent the following statement to Cruise Fever about the Future Cruise Credit guests on the canceled cruises will be receiving:

“Repairs on Regal Princess are progressing as planned in preparation for her scheduled November 10 departure from Galveston. We are actively communicating with guests booked on this voyage to keep them informed.

“Our team remains focused on ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience, and we look forward to welcoming guests aboard. Any further updates will be provided promptly.

“In addition, as a gesture of goodwill, guests who were affected by the cancellations of the October 27 and November 3 sailings will receive an increased Future Cruise Credit (FCC), raised from 25% to 50% of their original cruise fare.

“This enhanced FCC will be automatically applied to guest accounts and can be used for bookings made by May 31, 2025, and sailing by May 31, 2026.

“Guests who booked a Princess Plus or Premier Package for either of the cancelled voyages during the Captain’s Circle Loyalty Accelerator promotion will still receive double the cruise credits, with full suite guests receiving four times the loyalty points.”

The majority of the ship’s cruises from Texas are six- to eight-nights in length and visit the Western Caribbean. Port stops include Cozumel, Costa Maya, Belize and Roatan.

In the spring of 2025, the ship will reposition to Europe and offer cruises from Southampton.

Leading Cruise Brands Engage in Global Beach Clean-Up Efforts

P&O Cruises and Cunard, two prominent UK-based cruise brands, have embarked on beach clean-up projects across ten global locations since March 2024.

P&O Cunard Beach Clean Up

In October 2024, crew members from P&O Cruises’ Britannia and Cunard’s Queen Anne participated in clean-up activities in Lisbon, Portugal, a frequent stop on their itineraries.

Two areas of the Alges city beach in the city were cleared of around 42kg of waste.

In the UK, clean-up efforts have been notably effective, with 170 kg of debris, including plastics and even a refrigerator, removed from beaches near Southampton.

“We’ve taken great pride in orchestrating the beach cleans along our UK coastlines close to our Southampton home, with so many of our passionate colleagues contributing their time to this important cause,

“This initiative is a reflection of our commitment to more sustainable tourism and our responsibility to help protect and preserve our vital marine ecosystems for future generations,“

Paul Ludlow, president of Carnival UK and P&O Cruises

Carnival Corporation, the parent company of P&O Cruises and Cunard, has outlined a comprehensive environmental strategy in its 2023 Sustainability Report. This includes beach clean-ups across all nine cruise brands under the Carnival umbrella.

The report highlights a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by over 10% since 2011, despite a 30% increase in fleet capacity. This achievement underscores the corporation’s commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.

The corporation’s environmental initiatives extend beyond the UK and Portugal, with beach clean-ups conducted in countries such as Australia, Costa Rica, and the US. These efforts are part of a global strategy to enhance the environmental sustainability of cruise operations.

These clean-up projects serve a dual purpose: maintaining clean beaches for cruise guests and local communities while reinforcing the cruise lines’ commitment to environmental sustainability.

Looking ahead, P&O Cruises and Cunard plan to expand their environmental initiatives, further solidifying their roles as leaders in sustainable tourism.

Princess Cruises Cancels Second Cruise On Popular Ship, But Confirms Third Cancellation Won’t Be Necessary

Princess Cruises has been forced to cancel a second cruise on Regal Princess due to technical issues, but has offered reassurances that repairs are now on track.

Princess Cruises from Southampton

Having already cancelled the cruise set to depart on 27th October with just two days’ notice, the cruise line then informed guests that the cruise scheduled for 3rd November also would be cancelled.

These cruises would’ve been the inaugural cruises for the ship from Galveston, after she crossed the Atlantic following a season in Europe.

The exact nature of the technical problems has not been disclosed, but they are believed to be related to an engine room fire during a recent Transatlantic crossing, followed by power outages.

Despite these setbacks, the crew is working diligently to ensure the safety and functionality of the vessel.

In response to the cancellations, Princess Cruises has offered affected passengers a full refund of their cruise fare and shore excursions, along with a 25% credit for future bookings.

While guests scheduled to board on the 3rd November cruise were given slightly more notice, it’s still extremely late to hear that your travel plans have been cancelled.

Often, when cruise lines are forced to cancel cruises at such short notice, they are much more generous with compensation and may offer up to a 100% Future Cruise Credit alongside the refund.

The cruise line has announced that repairs are on track and that the 10th November cruise should go ahead as scheduled, barring any further setbacks.

7 Things Cruise Lines Have Cut Since I Started Cruising

I took my first cruise a little over 15 years ago, a four night cruise to The Bahamas on Norwegian Sky from PortMiami. I couldn’t say no to a four night cruise for $199 so I decided to take my first ever cruise and see what they were all about.

Our free cruise newsletter offers the latest news and deals: Sign Up

cruise ships

Fast forward to today and there are a number of things that the mainstream cruise lines have cut. Call them cheap, call it cost cutting or whatever you want, but many things that were included in cruises a few years ago are no longer offered.

Here are things that most mainstream cruise lines have cut over the past 15 years. Note, this doesn’t apply to premium or luxury lines as they haven’t made cuts like mainstream lines have.

Pre-Cruise Packet

Cruise lines used to mail you a packet before your cruise with an information booklet, your luggage tags, and other things you needed for your vacation.

I loved receiving it in the mail because it meant my cruise was just around the corner. I was so excited, I think I read the information book three times before my first cruise. It had a lot of good info for first time cruisers like me.

Now if you want things like your luggage tags, you have to print them yourself.

Welcome Aboard Drink

It didn’t matter how cheap of a cruise you booked or how short it was. When you boarded your ship, someone was standing there to hand you a free welcome aboard drink, a glass of champagne or orange juice for those who don’t drink.

The first few cruises I booked were insanely cheap, but this was offered on them.  Now, it’s a relic of the past.

Twice-a-Day Cabin Service

This is one thing that I really miss when sailing on the big lines now. Your room steward would clean your room in the morning and then again while you were at dinner for turndown service. It gave a feel of luxury and something special when taking a cruise.

Then one day, cruise lines figured out that if stewards only cleaned rooms once a day, they would only need half the staff.

Now, they ask you to choose between morning or evening service as you only get it once a day.

Lobster on Short Cruises

It didn’t matter if it was a three night cruise or a four night cruise, lobster was always on the menu in the main dining room at least one night of the voyage. It was usually the formal night.

“You want lobster? That will be $44.99!”

Technically you can still get lobster in the main dining room on short cruises, but you have to pay for it under the “steakhouse selections”.

Free Room Service

This is one of the things on my first cruise that really impressed me. There was no charge for room service. They had a room service menu and you could order anything off it that you liked and it was all complimentary.

Now, cruise lines either charge a delivery free or have a smaller complimentary menu and a menu where you pay for items you order.

Towel Animals

While not all the big cruise lines have cut this out, towel animals are slowly disappearing from cruise ships.

towel animals

You used to have a towel animal waiting for you in your cabin every night when you came back from dinner. Norwegian was the first cruise line to cut this practice.

Chocolates on Pillows

Along with your towel animal, room stewards always put chocolate on your pillows. This has also disappeared from most of the big cruise lines.

But I have to say, even though cruise lines have made many cuts over the past few years, cruises still offer the best value for the buck when taking a vacation.

And while I miss many of these things, it doesn’t stop me from taking cruises.
