Royal Caribbean Renames Beach Club Neighborhoods

Royal Caribbean has renamed a couple of the neighborhoods at the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island.

Royal Beach Club Paradise Island

Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas is Royal Caribbean’s first beach club. It opened this past December and offers an all-inclusive beach club that’s just a short ferry ride away from the pier.

A few days ago, the cruise line changed the names of Chill Beach and Family Beach.

Chill Beach is now called Paradise Beach to celebrate the spirit of the beach club’s location.

Family Beach is now called Chill Beach to highlight its all-ages appeal and family-focused activities. Beach games and pool games will continue to take place here.

Lastly, the cruise line said that Party Cove has remained unchanged.

Why did Royal Caribbean made these changes just a few months after the beach club opened in Nassau? The cruise line said that they renamed the neighborhoods after listening to their guests and to enhance the Royal Caribbean vacation experience.

How to Avoid a “Daycare at Sea” on Your Next Cruise: 4 Rules to Follow

This is not a rant against kids on cruises or families taking a nice cruise vacation.   After all, every family needs a break, and a cruise ship can offer something for every age group.

But after reading about a cruiser’s complaint that their cruise was more like a “daycare at sea”, I thought this kind of guidance could be helpful.

“The kids. Everywhere. It felt like I was trapped in a daycare at sea.”

These were the words of a cruise passenger who had just returned from a cruise on Norwegian Getaway out of PortMiami this week.

Their post on the r/NCL subreddit received all kinds of helpful advice (and snarky comments) regarding the “chaos” that can occur on a ship, from a busy buffet to 45-minute lines for tender boats.

While the passenger swore they’d never sail with the cruise line again, the cruise community was quick to point out that it was really a matter of the time of year and specific itinerary that was the bigger issue.

Whether you’re a parent looking to find a ship your kids will love, or a traveler looking to avoid the “splash-zone” and screaming, here are some rules to follow when it comes to kids on ships.

Rule 1: The School Calendar is a Must-Check

If you want to guarantee a high kid-to-adult ratio, the school calendar is your guide.  As a rule of thumb, cruises are both cheaper and have fewer kids when the youngsters are in school.

  • For the Most Kids: Aim for Spring Break week. (late March through mid-April). As one person reacted to the OP: “You chose the absolute worst time to cruise” if you wanted quiet.
  • To Avoid the “Daycare”: Aim for the “shoulder season.” Late September, early November, or the first two weeks of December are the golden windows. Most kids are back in classrooms, leaving the pool deck much quieter.

The shoulder season is my favorite time of year to sail, personally.   It’s pretty much the cheapest time of year to cruise, and if you can deal with the fact that it’s also hurricane season in the Caribbean, you’re good to go.

Along with week-long breaks from school, you should also check major holidays like Labor Day, since some families will take their kids out of school to take advantage of the longer weekend.

Rule 2: Short Trips Equal More Noise

It’s not just about the month; it’s about the duration of the cruise. Currently, ships like the Norwegian Getaway are running constant 3- and 4-night cruises out of Miami, so a sailing like this is bound to have a good deal of younger ones running around.

Another rule of thumb I use is that the longer the cruise the quieter the sailing, and vice versa.

These short “weekend warrior” cruises to the Bahamas are the perfect duration for families and spring breakers.

They are affordable, require minimal time off school, and pack a lot into a few days.

If you want a ship that feels more like a “peaceful retreat” than a “high school cafeteria,” look for 10-night or longer itineraries.

Rule 3: Know the “Ship-Within-a-Ship” Escapes

Modern mega-ships are designed to be all things to all people.  You can have a yacht-like experience if you want, but you also have to be ready to pay for it.  That being said, there are always quiet areas of the ship where you can find some R&R.

The main pool deck and the buffet will always be the most crowded and lively areas of the ship when there are a lot of kids on board.  Anywhere soft-serve icecream is available is sure to have little feet running around as well.

But most cruise lines now offer “adults-only” retreats. In the r/NCL discussion, one cruiser noted their trip was saved by the Vibe Beach Club: “Quiet lagoon with nice beach chairs…”.

Vibe Beach Club with Norwegian Cruise Line is the 18+ outdoor retreat complete with a pool and hot tubs and it requires an extra fee and passes are available for the entire cruise.

It’s not on every ship though. And that brings up a big point. Even within the same cruise line each ship can feel very different.  I recommend checking those deck plans and making sure the adult-only retreats are actually available on the ship you’re looking at.

Rule 4: Know Your Cruise Line

If you want 100% certainty that there won’t be a child on your ship, you can always book an adult-only sailing with Viking or Virgin Voyages.  These cruise lines have become very popular as adult retreats.

Even Carnival Cruise Line has offered a handful of adult-only cruises (“Sailings Exclusively for Adults”) due to casino and gaming requirements.

But even cruise lines that still allow kids can be very low-key and laid back.   You can read more about the 6 best cruise lines for a relaxing vacation here.

A cruise line like Holland America Line will typically not have a lot of kids.  But it also means you won’t have some of those high-octane activities available.

If you still want the waterparks, rollercoasters, rock-climbing walls, mini golf etc. you can choose a cruise line like Royal Caribbean or Carnival, but choosing a longer duration sailing will minimize the number of kids onboard.

Note on Dining

If you’re worried about dining room drama, here’s a tip: Eat late. Most families with young kids go for the early seating.  After all, they have bedtimes to worry about.

If you book your table for 8:30 PM, the atmosphere is usually more adult-focused.

Bottom Line

At the end of the day, a cruise is what you make of it. If you love a ship that feels alive, bustling, and full of families, book that short Spring Break voyage.

Just remember: if you’re going to book a family-friendly ship during the busiest week of the year, take the advice of one of the comments I read in the Reddit thread and leave your “complainy-pants” at home.

Carnival Cruise Line Tests New “Chicken & Waffles” Lunch Menu on Several Ships

Carnival Cruise Line is trying out a fresh lunch option on a few ships.  While some are saying it sounds like a combination of Guy’s Burger Joint, Pig & Anchor BBQ, and Big Chicken all in one, so far it looks like a winner.

Carnival updated menu

Carnival’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, recently shared a new menu from the deck 10 lunch spot on Carnival Liberty.   This is one deck above the lido deck and main buffet area.

The concept is called “Chicken & Waffles & Waves”, and it combines Southern-style fried chicken with classic BBQ favorites.

What’s on the Menu?

The menu is split into two main sections: Chicken and BBQ Delight.

Chicken

  • Classic Fried Chicken – juicy inside, crispy outside, served with gravy
  • Spicy Fried Chicken – for those who like bold, fiery flavors
  • Crispy Chicken Burger – crunchy chicken with pickles, tangy mayo, and lettuce on soft buns
  • Saucy Chicken Tenders – served with your choice of buffalo, sticky Korean sauce, or plain
  • Hot Honey Glazed Fried Chicken – crispy chicken drizzled with sweet and spicy hot honey
  • Fluffy Waffles – perfect as a side with any chicken dish

BBQ Delight

  • Slow Cooked Pork Butt (gluten-free, contains pork) – tender BBQ pork bursting with flavor
  • BBQ Beef Brisket (gluten-free) – slow-cooked and melt-in-your-mouth good

Sides (& More)

  • Creamy Coleslaw (gluten-free, vegetarian)
  • Mac and Cheese (vegetarian)
  • Potato Bacon Salad (contains pork)

The menu offers a nice mix of crispy, saucy, and smoky flavors.

Chicken and Waffles menu with carnival
Carnival’s new menu on select ships.

What Cruisers Are Saying

The response from Carnival fans has been mostly positive so far. Many people commented to Heald’s Facebook post that the menu “sounds delicious” and said they would gladly try it all.

Several cruisers who have already tried the new offerings on Carnival Liberty called it one of their favorite lunch spots onboard.

This ship, and others that are currently making this menu available, don’t have a Big Chicken or Guy’s Pig & Anchor BBQ on board, so some are guessing these offerings make some of those popular dishes available to older ships.

After eating at Shaq’s Big Chicken on Carnival Celebration I can see why it’s so popular. I could have eaten lunch there every night on my cruise that juicy chicken was so good.  So, it’s good to see the cruise line making some of these similar offerings available on other ships, at least in a limited capacity.

One cruiser who just sailed on Liberty said this:

“I was on the Liberty last month on a b2b eek 1 we ate at the bbq- week 2 it had changed to chicken and waffles. Was a nice surprise. I think I had the saucy tenders, and the brisket.”

Will It Expand?

John Heald posted the menu on Facebook to get some feedback, as he typically will do with polls and questions on his social media page.

At the moment, the concept is only open for a limited time each day (roughly 2–3 hours at lunchtime) and is complimentary with your cruise fare.

And it’s only on a handful of ships, including Carnival Liberty, Carnival Conquest, and Carnival Glory.

Some are already asking if the menu will be added to ships that have upcoming dry docks or on ships like Magic, Breeze, or Pride.

Overall, the early reaction seems to indicate that Chicken & Waffles & Waves could become a popular new lunch spot for Carnival cruisers

Norwegian-Cruise-Line-ship-in-Alaska.jpg

“My Cruise Price Dropped $4,700 After Final Payment”: NCL’s One-Time Rule

A huge price drop after you’ve already paid in full is the worry for many cruisers.  It almost feels like penalty for booking early.  For one traveler, a May 2026 sailing with Norwegian Cruise Line saw the price drop from $11,500 down to $6,800.

Norwegian Cruise Line ship in Alaska

That $4,700 price difference feels like enough to book a separate cruise itself, but NCL has a “one-time” courtesy rule that can act as a safety net, and all you have to do is ask.

You know that sinking feeling when you book a cruise early, pat yourself on the back for locking in a great rate and a sweet cabin… then watch the price keep tumbling for months afterward?

Well, this Norwegian Cruise Line guest just lived it in real time, and their Reddit post received immediate reaction with other cruisers because other cruise vets know exactly how this feels.

Price Kept Dropping “Every Week”

The cruiser had a May 2026 sailing booked and paid up at around $11,500. After final payment, the fare started “dropping pretty much every week”.

But here’s the issue.  They already scored one Future Cruise Credit (FCC) for a $3,300 difference earlier after noticing a price drop, and this was after final payment, a key distinction.

By the way, that credit (FCC) can only be used for other cruises in the future, and not for the cruise in question.

Now, that same cruise is sitting at roughly $6,800, a $4,700 swing from what they originally paid.

In the social media post they asked, “Is there anything else I can do at this point? Has anyone had success getting additional FCC, upgrades, or anything else after already receiving one adjustment?”

Sound familiar? If you’ve ever booked 12–18 months out on any major cruise line, you’ve probably been there too.

Here’s What the NCL Community Is Saying

The replies were pretty consistent with what Norwegian states in their own policy. Most experienced NCL cruisers chimed in with the same takeaway:

  • NCL’s Best Price Guarantee lets you reprice before final payment.
  • After final payment (as long as you’re fully paid and more than 14 days from sailing), you get one shot at a price-drop adjustment.
  • That adjustment is usually a Future Cruise Credit for 100% of the difference or a complimentary upgrade to a higher category (if available and the value matches).

Several people shared success stories: One got an upgraded balcony room on a second drop.

Another said their personal cruise consultant (PCC) was “amazing” and worked out a nice room change for a $1,400 drop.

But here’s the main takeaway: it’s one and done per cruise. No second Future Cruise Credit for that extra $1,400 drop.  And this makes timing those price drops even more difficult.

A few cruisers even said to keep just a tiny balance on the booking until the absolute last minute if you want maximum flexibility.

And always call your personal cruise consultant or NCL directly.

Unlike some other cruise lines that will offer credit to spend on your current ship, NCL lets you turn a price drop into a credit for an entirely separate future cruise.

The Official NCL Policy (Straight From the Source)

According to Norwegian’s 2026 Best Price Guarantee terms, the rules change once that final payment window closes.

If you find yourself in the same boat as our $4,700-drop cruiser, here is some info you should know about:

Timing is Everything

The most important thing is when you ask for the adjustment. NCL divides your booking into two specific periods:

  • Before Final Payment: You have all kinds of flexibility. If the price drops, NCL will lower your balance or refund the difference.
  • After Final Payment: This is where the “one-time courtesy” rule starts. As long as you are more than 14 days from sailing, you can request one adjustment per reservation.

The Pesky Details

Not every cruise qualifies. To get the adjustment, your booking must meet these specific requirements:

  • Sailing Length: Your cruise must be 6 days or longer. Short weekend getaways don’t qualify.
  • Matched Perks: The new, lower fare must include the same “More at Sea” or promotional perks as your original booking.
  • Full Payment: Your reservation must be paid in full to trigger the post-payment options.

The Two Options

If you meet the criteria, NCL gives you a choice. Since you only get one shot at this after final payment, you should choose the one that adds the most value to your vacation.

The first option is a Future Cruise Credit (FCC). You receive that credit for 100% of the price difference. This credit is for a future trip and is valid for two years after your current cruise ends.

The second option is a Complimentary Upgrade. If a better room is now cheaper than what you paid, you can ask for a move. Keep in mind you cannot jump into The Haven or Suites unless you were already booked in one.

The only issue with the upgrade is that the closer you get to the cruise, the more those highly sought after cabins fill up.  In my experience, last minute cruises usually only have those less desirable cabins like obstructed view staterooms or on lower decks of the ship.

But hey, you never know when an amazing aft balcony could still be available.

Since this NCL cruiser already accepted an FCC for that first $3,300 drop after their final payment, they have technically used their one-time courtesy, BUT a persistent travel agent can sometimes still push for a cabin upgrade if the price continues to drop.

new Norwegian Cruise Line ships

My Take

I’ve been chasing cruise deals since 2009. These massive drops are exactly why I tell people to book early if they can and then watch prices like a hawk.  Early booking secures the cabin, but the cheapest fare is determined by demand.  Prices only drop when demand isn’t as high as expected.

While a $4,700 drop in price feels like a gut-punch, the cruiser in this story actually has a convenient advantage. By booking early, they chose their exact mid-ship balcony and didn’t have to settle for a “guarantee” cabin assigned by the ship.

I know too many cruisers that waited too long for that perfect price and ended up missing the sailing altogether.

The real secret is timing your one-and-done credit or upgrade. If you use that courtesy shot on a small $200 drop, you can’t go back for seconds when the price dives by $1,000 or more later, if that even happens.

3 Best Ways to Track Cruise Fares and Catch Drops Early

I put together a whole guide on this a while back because so many were asking about it. Here are the three easiest tools I’ve used for tracking cruise price drops:

  1. CruiseWatch.com: One of my favorites. Super detailed alerts. You can filter by ship, dates, cabin type, and even specific perks. It notifies you the second your exact sailing drops.
  2. CruiseLine.com price alerts: Dead simple. Enter your cruise details, drop in your email, and alerts hit your inbox whenever the fare moves up or down.
  3. Manual checks + your travel agent: Set a calendar reminder every couple weeks and let your TA do the heavy lifting. Good agents monitor for you and reprice automatically before final payment.  For those that want a hands-off approach, just let the travel agent do what they do.

There are also tools like VisualPing that allow you to monitor any changes to any webpage online which can be used for price tracking as well, but it’s a bit more technical.

Bottom Line

Don’t sweat it too much.  When the cruiser in this story booked the cruise they thought they were getting a good deal at the time. Any price drops offer a bonus opportunity, but it’s not worth agonizing over ever extra dollar the price may fall.

Cruising offers the best value and experience of any vacation available in my opinion. Book what you want when the price is at your level and plan on having an incredible cruise.

Was a Remote Worker Really Fired for Living on a Carnival Cruise Ship? The Truth Behind the Viral Hoax

While most of us go on a cruise to get away from work, the idea of making a cruise ship a permanent office does sound tempting.  After all, trading a cubicle for a balcony is the ultimate upgrade.

But a recent story about a man being fired from his job after they found out he was working from a cruise ship isn’t quite as it seems.

Man on cruise ship balcony relaxing

The Viral Post

Over the last two days hours, social media has been flooded with a story that many people think actually happened.

You’ve probably seen the posts: A guy (sometimes named Derek Callum from Austin, sometimes Ryan Hollister from Portland, or even Kevin Omoregie) supposedly lived on a Carnival cruise ship for 9 to 14 months, treating it like his full-time “home office.”

According to the social media posts, his employer eventually caught on through VPN logs showing connections from international waters, a suspicious Carnival logo on a travel mug during a video call, or a laptop return address listed as “Deck 9, Lido Level.”

What happens in this viral meme? He gets fired for “unauthorized international operations,” along with steel drum music in the background during meetings and a travel mug labeled “declining to comment.”

It’s the kind of story that makes you laugh and think, “Wouldn’t that be the life..” until it wasn’t.”

Spoiler: It’s Not Real.

This is a classic viral hoax/meme that’s been spreading like crazy on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads in the past couple days, mostly from humor accounts and meme pages.

The details change slightly with every repost.  Different names are used, different ships (Carnival Sunrise, Horizon, etc.), and slightly tweaked “gotcha” moments.

And because these social media posts have done so well, what do other accounts do? They copy it.

But here’s why it’s clearly fake:

  • No legitimate news outlet has reported it. Not a single story from CNN, Fox,  Reuters, or legitimate cruise sites.
  • Carnival Cruise Line has made no statements about any such incident.
  • There are no verifiable people behind these names in connection with the story.  They only appear in these meme posts.
  • The tone is clearly satire.  Exaggerated jokes about remote work policies, corporate IT sleuthing, and the extra little details that reach into fantasy land make it clear it’s not real.

But the reason the meme has resonated with so many cruisers is that it’s very possible to work full time from a cruise ship, even with all the caveats that go with it.

I’ve spent many hours working while on a cruise, making reliable cruise ship Wi-Fi even more important.

The hardest part is always the location though. Cruise cabins don’t always have the best internet signal (depending on their proximity to the router), and working on a laptop in a lounge or buffet area can just be awkward.

Of course, for video meetings, you need a private space.  So, the type of job would really determine how practical it would be to turn a cruise ship into your personal office.

Why People Are Soaking It In

Even though it’s not a real story, it’s tapping into something very relatable. The idea of living the life on a cruise ship while keeping that full-time remote job is something many cruisers have dreamed about.

Similar hoaxes pop up all the time because they’re fun to share and spark comments like “I’d do the same!” or “My boss would lose it.”

In reality, living full-time on a cruise ship is something some digital nomads (or cruise influencers) actually do, but it comes with real challenges like cost, internet reliability at sea, and other boring fine print that we’d all rather just ignore.

Online Comments

The meme has really sparked a ton of debate and discussion, especially in cruising communities. On Reddit’s r/Cruise, a post on the “story” has already racked up over 100 comments.

But readers were quick to call out the obvious AI-generated image, joking about the awkward balcony setup:

“The fumes you’d have in your face all day long if the exhaust funnel were at the front like this.”

Others poked fun at the photo’s impossible angles, with one asking, “You’ve never been in Carnival’s slightly inwardly angled balcony rooms that’s somewhat over the middle of the ship and at the same height as the exhaust funnel?”

However, many cruisers shared that working remotely from a ship is actually possible these days thanks to Starlink upgrades. One person said, “I’ve spent way longer working remote for my employer than this guy and have never had a problem with bandwidth and speed. The issue is your internet bill is like $1000 a month.”

Another added, “Literally sitting on a cruise ship right now with faster internet than I do at home.”

But commenters also pointed out real legal and tax issues: “After the pandemic it was discovered someone at the company I work for had quietly moved to a different state and that created real tax and compliance issues. They fired him as a result.”

Others explained, “There are tax, legal, compliance and security issues. Some of the data we worked with wasn’t allowed to be accessed outside of the U.S.”

One HR perspective said that working from international waters or foreign ports creates “huge liability issues where the company and the person will have to owe taxes and the person risks violating their visa.”

So, while dreaming of this kind of life is fun, reality eventually pops that balloon.

Bottom Line

The next time you see this one pop up in your feed, feel free to share the truth, or just enjoy the laugh before scrolling on.

The real remote work upgrade might still be a standing desk and a good coffee maker, but hey, we can still dream right?

Passenger Files Lawsuit Against Celebrity Cruises After Dance Floor Fall On Celebrity Reflection

A passenger has launched legal action against Celebrity Cruises after allegedly sustaining a fractured foot during a fall on the dance floor of Celebrity Reflection.

Jeannette Beres, a Florida resident, claims she was injured while attending an evening event in the ship’s grand foyer on 14th January 2025. The incident is said to have occurred on Deck 3, a central atrium space frequently used for live music and dancing.

Celebrity Reflection

According to the complaint, Beres tripped over a speaker that had been positioned in the middle of the dance floor, an area where guests were expected to move freely. The fall reportedly resulted in a fractured foot along with additional injuries affecting other parts of her body.

The lawsuit was filed on 26th March 2026, with Beres seeking damages for pain, suffering and financial losses linked to the incident.

Celebrity Cruises Accused Of Safety Failings

In the filing, Beres accuses Celebrity Cruises of multiple forms of negligence. These include claims of negligent maintenance, failure to inspect the area properly, and failure to warn passengers of potential hazards.

Her legal representatives argue that the cruise line did not maintain the dance floor in a safe condition and failed to identify or remove what they describe as a dangerous obstruction. They also allege that no signage, markings or verbal warnings were provided to alert guests to the presence of the speaker.

Celebrity Cruises has not publicly responded to the allegations. As with all such cases, the claims remain unproven until examined in court.

Establishing liability may depend on whether it can be demonstrated that the cruise line failed in its duty of care. Evidence such as security footage or photographs of the area has not been released publicly.

Cruise operators typically adhere to international maritime safety standards, including those set out under the Safety of Life at Sea convention, which cover hazard prevention and passenger safety. Legal proceedings will likely examine whether those standards were met in this instance.

There is also the question of assumed risk, as passengers may be considered to accept certain inherent risks when engaging in activities such as dancing on a moving vessel, particularly in crowded environments.

Despite the lawsuit, Celebrity Reflection continues to operate short cruises to the Bahamas from Fort Lauderdale, offering 3- and 4-night itineraries for up to 3,046 guests.

Similar Cases Highlight Ongoing Legal Trend

Fall-related incidents are among the most common types of lawsuits faced by cruise lines, with several cases emerging across the industry in recent months.

Royal Caribbean, a sister brand to Celebrity Cruises, was recently named in multiple lawsuits involving passengers who reported injuries from falls during their voyages.

Elsewhere, a separate claim was filed against Princess Cruises earlier this year, involving a passenger who allegedly slipped on decorative ribbons in a dining area aboard Ruby Princess.

Such cases often hinge on whether cruise lines can be shown to have been aware of hazards and failed to act, or whether passengers are deemed to have contributed to their own injuries.

Virgin Voyages’ Valiant Lady left New York on April 6, 2026, on a 5-night sailing that was supposed to call on Bermuda’s King’s Wharf on April 8.

Before the voyage even began, they knew the forecast would be trouble.  So, they changed itinerary plans and sent guests this notification ahead of time:

“Due to forecasted weather, it’s become necessary to adjust our itinerary to keep things smooth, safe and comfortable. Instead of Bermuda, we’ll now be heading to Saint John, New Brunswick.”

The official cruise season for Saint John doesn’t usually kick off until May or June, so this unscheduled stop is very early for the cruise port.

Passengers will have cooler temperatures than they might be used to when visiting the port as the high on Wednesday is forecast to be 37 degrees Fahrenheit with a low of 26 degrees.

Why Saint John?

In a letter sent to guests, the cruise line explained why the port was chosen as the Bermuda replacement:

“Maritime regulations require a foreign port of call for voyages. Given the length of this voyage, our routing and what we’re navigating around, it was the only viable option. That said, Saint John in New Brunswick, Canada will be ready for us. The port is opening ahead of their season to welcome Valiant Lady, and this will be our first time sailing into the Bay of Fundy. That preparation matters to make sure it is a place you will be glad you got to visit even if not planned.”

$100 Credit to Impacted Sailors

To help make up for the change in plans, Virgin Voyages has issued a $100 “Sailor Loot” credit per cabin to every guest on board.  This is on top of any refunds for excursions originally planned in Bermuda.

After all, the new itinerary means many passengers are now traveling without the gear or clothing they might need for the northern destination.  The credit is intended to help them pick up whatever they need before they arrive in Saint John on Wednesday.

According to VV Insider the ship should arrive around 8:00 AM on April 8 and depart April 9 at 4:00 AM.

Cruise tracking data from CruiseMapper shows Valiant Lady about 250 nautical miles from Saint John as the vessel travels at 19 knots.

The ship is scheduled to arrive back in New York on April 11, 2026.

Formula 1-Themed Experience Set To Race Onto P&O Cruises Arvia This Summer

A new Formula 1-inspired experience is set to arrive on board P&O Cruises’ Arvia this summer, bringing a mix of interactive racing, shopping and themed entertainment to guests at sea.

Created by cruise retail operator Harding+, the concept taps into the growing global popularity of Formula 1, offering passengers a more hands-on and engaging way to enjoy onboard shopping and activities.

Arvia Formula 1 Experience

The space will feature a selection of well-known brands, including Maui Jim and TAG Heuer, alongside Formula 1 collectibles from The LEGO Group and Maisto/Bburago.

Rather than a traditional retail setup, the area has been designed as a fully themed environment where guests can browse, play and take part in the experience.

Racing Simulators And Hands-On Fun

At the centre of the experience are interactive racing simulators, giving guests the chance to test their skills on a virtual Formula 1 circuit while at sea.

In a unique twist, participants will wear Maui Jim polarised sunglasses during their session, allowing them to try out the eyewear in a real-time setting rather than simply browsing in-store.

The aim is to make the experience feel more like an attraction than a shop, with plenty of opportunities for guests to get involved rather than just look around.

Harding+ said the idea reflects how cruise holidays are evolving, with more younger travellers and multi-generational families looking for activities they can enjoy together. Experiences that are social, interactive and suitable for a wide range of ages are becoming increasingly important onboard.

The Formula 1-themed area also includes exclusive merchandise and eye-catching displays designed to recreate the atmosphere of a race weekend, helping bring a touch of the track to the middle of the ocean.

Strong Early Interest From Guests

Early feedback suggests the new experience is already proving popular, with high levels of guest participation reported within the first few days.

The launch also builds on Arvia’s broader approach to onboard shopping, which has focused on offering more than just retail by blending it with entertainment and immersive experiences.

As cruise lines continue to look for new ways to engage guests, concepts like this could become a more common feature, particularly on ships like Arvia that cater to a wide mix of ages and holiday styles.

Seabourn Pursuit Delivers Vital Medical Support To Remote Chilean Island

Seabourn’s expedition ship Seabourn Pursuit has provided essential medical assistance to residents of Chile’s remote Robinson Crusoe Island, offering diagnostic services that had been unavailable for several months.

The vessel arrived at the isolated island, part of the Juan Fernández Islands, on 4th April, and used its onboard medical facilities to carry out X-ray examinations for local residents.

The island, located around 500 miles west of Santiago, has been without a functioning X-ray machine since February, leaving patients unable to access basic diagnostic imaging without travelling to the mainland.

Local health authorities had approached the cruise line ahead of the scheduled port call, requesting help to address a growing backlog of cases requiring imaging.

Medical Team Steps In To Support Local Community

Seabourn confirmed in a press release that its onboard medical team responded to the request, conducting X-ray scans for residents aged between four and 71.

The scans were then reviewed remotely by the company’s telemedicine partner, HealthcareLive, enabling local doctors to proceed with long-delayed diagnoses and treatment plans.

“Seabourn Pursuit had the opportunity to give back to a community we visit… It was a privilege to work alongside the local medical team, and the gratitude from patients and families is something our crew will always remember.”

Dr. Nicolaas van der Merwe, senior doctor on the Seabourn Pursuit.

Without access to imaging services for several months, many residents had faced the prospect of travelling hundreds of miles across the South Pacific to mainland Chile for treatment. The ship’s intervention helped to ease that burden significantly, at least temporarily.

Cruise Lines Increasingly Engage In Community Support

While expedition cruises often visit remote destinations, this case highlights how onboard medical capabilities can also play a role in supporting underserved communities.

Ships like Seabourn Pursuit are equipped with advanced medical facilities designed primarily for guest care, but in certain circumstances these resources can be extended to local populations, particularly in isolated regions where healthcare access is limited.

The visit underscores a broader trend within the cruise industry, where lines are increasingly looking to contribute positively to the destinations they visit, beyond traditional tourism activities.
