Best Nudist & Clothing Optional Cruises

Most people think a clothing-optional cruise is simply a nude cruise. But that’s only half the story.

There are actually 2 completely different types, and they attract very different crowds.

One focuses on body positivity, relaxation and a laid-back, respectful atmosphere. The other is a lively adults-only experience with themed parties and a much more social vibe.

Book the wrong one, though, and your cruise might feel very different from what you expected.

So what’s the difference… and how do you make sure you choose the right one?

The Different Types of Clothing-Optional Cruises

Understanding the difference is key before you book!

Naturist or nudist cruises – These focus on body positivity and freedom from clothing in a social but respectful way.

Lifestyle cruises – These are adult-themed voyages with a strong focus on socialising, themed events, and parties. Some of these are swingers cruises.

If you’re considering one of these sailings, make sure you’re choosing the right environment for your comfort level.

1. Nude Cruises

Texas-based company Bare Necessities has been chartering cruise ships for bare-optional cruises since 1991 and is the leading provider of naturist cruises. The company supports the belief that social nudity is not a sexual activity and strives to dispel the misconception that it’s anything but natural and beautiful.

Bare Necessities cruise

These voyages are typically full-ship charters, meaning the entire ship is reserved for guests who share the same understanding of naturism. That way, no one is surprised or uncomfortable about the experience.

Most nudist cruises are technically clothing-optional, meaning guests can choose whether or not to participate. Many people book them not because they wish to be nude all the time, but because these sailings are adult-only, friendly, and body-positive.

These cruises are popular with couples and singles of all ages, shapes and sizes, so you can expect to find all sorts of people on board.

Nude cruising can be addictive. It’s reported that 70% of guests are repeat customers, so you may start to recognise regular cruisers if this is something that you do often.

It’s worth noting that crew members always remain fully clothed and professional. Crew are briefed in advance and may decline to work on these charters if it conflicts with their personal or religious beliefs.

2. Lifestyle Cruises

For adults who prefer a livelier experience with themed parties, dancing, and social interaction, there are lifestyle cruises.

These are full-ship charters operated by companies such as:

Each caters to couples or solo women who enjoy a fun, grown-up holiday atmosphere in a private, consenting environment.

Choosing the Right Type of Cruise for You

When deciding between a naturist or lifestyle cruise, the most important factor is your comfort level.

If you want a calm, clothing-optional experience focused on relaxation and freedom, a naturist cruise is ideal.

If you’d prefer a pineapple vacation with lively entertainment and themed events, a lifestyle charter might be more your speed.

Either way, these cruises make it possible for guests to enjoy their holiday without judgement, as everyone onboard has chosen the same environment.

Things to Know About Clothing-Optional Cruises

Most clothing-optional cruises follow a few simple guidelines:

  • Guests must always use a towel when sitting on public furniture.
  • Clothing is required in the main dining room, speciality restaurant, and during embarkation or port calls.
  • Balcony nudity rules vary depending on the ship and location — generally, guests are asked to be considerate of visibility and nearby cabins.
  • Cameras and phones are restricted in certain areas to protect guest privacy.

These policies ensure everyone feels comfortable and respected throughout the voyage.

The Bottom Line

Clothing-optional cruises come in many styles. Some focus on body positivity and relaxation, while others offer lively themed events and a more social atmosphere.

The key is understanding the culture of the cruise before you book. That way, you’ll sail with like-minded guests and enjoy a comfortable, respectful experience.

Even if you’re just curious, these sailings show just how diverse the cruise industry has become.

Norwegian Jewel Crew Member Raises Concerns Over Cabin Conditions Onboard

A crew member aboard Norwegian Jewel has raised concerns about the condition of onboard accommodation, with images appearing to show issues relating to cleanliness and maintenance in crew cabins.

As revealed by Crew Center, the complaint was shared anonymously by a recently joined crew member who said they were surprised by the state of their assigned living space.

According to the crew member, the problems were discovered shortly after boarding the ship.

Photographs provided appear to show a drawer or storage compartment containing stained papers and personal belongings left behind, suggesting the cabin may not have been properly cleared following the previous occupant’s departure.

Additional images show heavily worn and torn bedding, including visible damage to the mattress surface. The crew member also reported that soiled linen had been left in the cabin upon arrival.

Shared Cabin Conditions Questioned

The crew member explained that the cabin is shared by five people, making cleanliness and upkeep particularly important. They described the experience as disappointing, especially when compared to previous employment with another cruise operator.

“I was working in another cruise company and it was completely different… I heard Norwegian is better than other companies,”

Concerns were also raised about whether adequate inspections are carried out when crew members sign off from their cabins. The individual noted that another crew member who boarded on the same day reported encountering similar conditions in a separate cabin, suggesting the issue may not be isolated.

Crew accommodation standards are a key factor in overall wellbeing, particularly given that contracts at sea can last up to six months. Clean, well-maintained living spaces are essential not only for comfort but also for hygiene and basic working conditions.

The concerns highlighted in this case may prompt questions around onboard procedures and whether more rigorous checks are needed to ensure cabins are properly prepared for incoming crew.

Norwegian Cruise Line has not publicly commented on the specific claims, but such reports often lead to internal reviews when raised.

Focus On Crew Welfare Across The Industry

Issues surrounding crew living conditions have periodically surfaced across the cruise industry, drawing attention to the challenges faced by workers who spend extended periods at sea. While cruise lines typically outline standards for accommodation and hygiene, enforcement and consistency can vary.

In recent years, there has been growing scrutiny on crew welfare, including working hours, access to medical care, and living conditions onboard.

Industry observers note that maintaining high standards in crew areas is not only important for staff morale but also for operational efficiency, as crew performance is closely tied to their overall wellbeing.

The latest report involving Norwegian Jewel adds to ongoing conversations about how cruise lines can ensure that crew accommodation meets expected standards, particularly as the industry continues to rebuild and expand operations.

Corsica Port Blockade Forces Cruise Ships To Skip Calls As Fishermen Protest Fuel Costs

Fishermen protests over soaring fuel prices brought port operations on the French island of Corsica to a standstill on 7th April 2026, preventing cruise ships and ferries from docking and leaving hundreds of passengers facing disruption.

Demonstrators blocked access to several major ports, including Ajaccio, from as early as 6am, creating immediate knock-on effects for both arriving and departing vessels. The action left some passengers stranded on the island while others remained at sea as ships were forced to reroute or cancel scheduled calls.

Sun Princess

Among the ships impacted was Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess, which carries around 4,300 guests. The vessel was unable to enter the Port of Ajaccio due to the blockade, forcing a last-minute itinerary change.

A passenger onboard reported that the ship’s captain attempted discussions with protesting fishermen and was told the vessel could enter port but would not be permitted to depart. Faced with that restriction, the decision was made to skip the call entirely.

Sun Princess has instead continued its 7-night Mediterranean sailing from Barcelona and is now heading towards Genoa in Italy. The itinerary also includes an overnight stop in La Spezia before concluding in Civitavecchia, the port for Rome, on 11th April.

There remains hope that the ship may be able to call at Corsica on its return sailing, scheduled for 28th April, although the situation remains uncertain.

Corsica Ports At Centre Of Disruption

The blockade has affected one of the Mediterranean’s key cruise and ferry hubs at the start of a busy travel period. Corsica’s ports, including Ajaccio, Bastia and Porto-Vecchio, play a vital role in connecting the island with mainland France and Italy.

Regular ferry services link Corsica with cities such as Marseille, Toulon and Nice, as well as Italian ports including Livorno and Genoa. Cruise ships also frequently include the island on Western Mediterranean itineraries, making it a popular stop for international visitors.

The disruption is not limited to a single cruise line. AIDA Cruises’ AIDAcosma, which is scheduled to call at Ajaccio on 8th April, could also face difficulties if the protests continue. Several other ships have planned visits to Corsica this month, including Oceania Marina, Seven Seas Splendor, Explorer 2, Azamara Quest and Spirit of Discovery.

Wider Impact Of Fuel Price Protests

The demonstrations are part of a broader movement among maritime workers who say rising diesel costs are placing unsustainable pressure on their livelihoods. The increase in fuel prices has been linked to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have already had knock-on effects across the cruise industry.

Ferry services were among the hardest hit, with multiple sailings cancelled or delayed while authorities assessed the unfolding situation. The disruption comes at a critical time as the island begins to see higher tourist traffic heading into the summer season.

There are also warnings that the protests could expand. Agricultural groups in Corsica have indicated that farmers facing similar cost pressures may join the action, raising the possibility of prolonged disruption to both cruise itineraries and regional transport links.

With no clear timeline for when access to the ports will be restored, cruise lines are continuing to monitor developments closely, with further itinerary changes possible if the blockade continues.

Princess Cruises Seeks Volunteers To Step Aside From Sold-Out Discovery Princess Voyage

Princess Cruises had to approach some guests booked on a 30-night Discovery Princess voyage departing Sydney on 7th April 2026, asking them to consider changing their travel plans in exchange for significant incentives.

Passengers received messages shortly before embarkation offering a full refund alongside a future cruise credit equal to 100 per cent of the fare paid, valid for two years.

Discovery princess

The cruise line also offered to reimburse up to $1,500 per person in private travel expenses, including flights, if guests opted to step aside from the sailing.

In a letter shared online, Princess Cruises described the offer as an opportunity driven by strong demand for the voyage. Guests were told they could benefit from “exceptional savings” if they chose to move to a later departure.

The sailing in question is a repositioning cruise that saw Discovery Princess depart Sydney following her Australian season and head across the Pacific to begin a summer programme in Alaska. The itinerary includes calls in New Zealand, French Polynesia, Hawaii and along the US West Coast, before concluding in Vancouver on 6th May 2026.

Passenger Reactions Highlight Travel Disruption Concerns

Some passengers have already voiced frustration at the timing of the request, particularly those who had travelled long distances to join the cruise.

One guest reported receiving the offer after completing a 17-hour journey from Texas to Sydney, raising concerns about the practicality of rearranging plans at such short notice.

Others booked on the same voyage, including travellers based in Australia, said they did not receive any such communication.

This has led to speculation that the cruise line may have targeted specific bookings, potentially based on cabin categories such as balcony staterooms.

Why Cruise Lines Make Move-Over Offers

While overselling may come as a surprise to some cruise passengers, it is a long-standing practice across the travel sector. Cruise lines, like airlines and hotels, rely on historical booking patterns that show a percentage of customers will cancel or fail to arrive before departure.

To avoid sailing with empty cabins, operators may slightly exceed capacity when taking reservations. Discovery Princess, which measures around 145,000 gross tonnes, can accommodate approximately 3,660 guests at standard double occupancy.

When expected cancellations do not materialise, cruise lines turn to so-called move-over offers, encouraging passengers to switch sailings voluntarily. Incentives typically increase until enough guests accept, meaning forced removal from a cruise remains extremely rare.

For travellers, however, such situations can create complications, particularly when international flights, hotel stays and pre-booked excursions are involved. Travel insurance can help offset some of these risks, although coverage varies depending on the policy.

Passengers looking to minimise the chances of being impacted are often advised to select specific staterooms rather than booking guarantee cabins, which give cruise lines more flexibility to reassign inventory.

For those able to adjust their plans, though, these offers can present an unexpected opportunity, with some travellers effectively securing a free or heavily subsidised future cruise by accepting the deal.

Carnival Brings Back Its ‘Fun-ternship’ After A Successful Debut

Carnival Cruise Line is kicking off its second summer Fun‑ternship Program, giving more than 100 high school students ages 17 and older hands-on experience in cruise terminal operations at six U.S. homeports – Baltimore, Tampa, Jacksonville, Norfolk, New York City and Long Beach. The program builds on the success of Summer 2025, when students across those homeports successfully completed the Fun-ternship.

Throughout the eight-week program, students will get a behind-the-scenes look at how Carnival’s cruise operations run at the port while building real-world skills and exploring careers in travel and hospitality. Fun-terns will support embarkation-day operations alongside port services team members, receive hands-on training and mentorship, gain exposure to a range of roles and earn an hourly wage. At the end of the program, everyone will take part in a ship tour and special onboard luncheon celebration with Carnival leaders.

“After seeing the enthusiasm, growth and pride of last year’s Fun-terns, we’re excited to bring this opportunity back and continue helping students develop confidence, leadership skills and real-world experience in an industry that plays an important role in their local economy,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

Eligible students living in participating homeport communities are encouraged to apply. Applications are now open through June 8, with a limited number of positions available. The eight-week program will run between June and August, with exact dates varying by homeport city. Interested students can click here to learn more and apply.

Atlas Ocean Voyages Goes All-Suite, Elevating The Guest Experience Across Its Fleet

Atlas Ocean Voyages is ushering in a new era of refined expedition travel, unveiling a fleetwide transformation to an all-suite experience. This strategic evolution reinforces the brand’s dedication to offering discerning travelers a seamless blend of luxury, comfort, and immersive exploration.

Atlas Ocean Voyages Goes All-Suite

Effective April 2, 2026, all guest accommodations will be reclassified under a unified suite nomenclature, reinforcing what guests already experience onboard: spacious, design-forward environments paired with intuitive, highly personalized service. This milestone marks a natural extension of Atlas Ocean Voyages’ elevated brand positioning introduced earlier this year.

“At Atlas, this is not about changing a name, it’s about aligning our language with the experience we deliver every day,” said James A. Rodriguez, President and CEO of Atlas Ocean Voyages. “Across our fleet, our guests already enjoy the space, service, and thoughtful design that define a true suite experience. This evolution reflects the consistency of our onboard delivery and allows us to more confidently stand behind our place within the luxury expedition landscape.”

The newly defined suite structure introduces a clear and intentional three-tier collection:

Signature Collection

The Signature Collection serves as the foundation of the Atlas experience. It includes all the brand’s Always Included by Atlas amenities, along with a wide range of onboard features meant to offer effortless luxury in Adventure Ocean and Veranda suites. These offerings will continue uninterrupted and remain central to every voyage. Amenities include 24-hour in-suite dining with premium beverages, a stocked minibar, L’OCCITANE bath products, and binoculars for exploration.

Concierge Collection (New)

Launching for the 2026 European season, the new Concierge Collection enhances the value and personalization of Deluxe Horizon, Deluxe Veranda, and Horizon suites. Guests will enjoy a curated selection of enhancements, including onboard savings and elevated in-suite touches, designed to deepen the overall experience.

New Concierge Collection amenities include:

  • Welcome canapés upon arrival
  • Priority behind-the-scenes ship tour with tasting
  • One complimentary bag of laundry per voyage
  • Savings across boutique, spa, and premium Wi-Fi
  • Enhanced in-suite amenities

The Concierge Collection will debut aboard World Navigator April 2, 2026; World Voyager April 18, 2026, World Traveller May 9, 2026

Reserve Collection

The Reserve Collection is the highest offering in the Atlas suite experience, featuring Journey, Discovery, and Navigator suites. Guests enjoy an exclusive suite amenity program that includes all Signature and Concierge Collection benefits, along with additional premium services, such as butler service, expanded in-suite dining, and complimentary laundry.

Expanded Suite Offerings Across Categories

As part of this transition, select stateroom categories, including Deluxe Horizon, Deluxe Veranda, and Horizon suites, will offer enhanced space and design features, including up to 25% more interior space compared to Signature Collection veranda accommodations.

This thoughtful reclassification ensures consistency across all accommodations, allowing guests to more clearly understand the level of comfort, space, and service they can expect, regardless of suite category.

New Explorer’s Choice Offer

Coinciding with the launch of the all-suite experience, Atlas Ocean Voyages will introduce its enhanced Explorer’s Choice offer, available beginning April 2, 2026.

Guests may select from one of the following choices:

  • Double Air Credits of up to $3,000 per suite (on select voyages)
  • A complimentary pre-expedition hotel night
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

Guests reserving a Reserve Collection suite will enjoy the added benefit of selecting two amenities, further enhancing the value of their journey.

A Natural Evolution of the Atlas Experience

The move to an all-suite identity underscores Atlas Ocean Voyages’ continued focus on delivering a seamless, elevated onboard experience, one where design, service, and destination immersion are consistently aligned.

With this evolution, the brand reinforces its position within the luxury expedition space while remaining true to its founding philosophy: intimate yachts, immersive journeys, and a deeply personal approach to hospitality.

PortMiami Hits Busiest Day of 2026 with 10 Ships in Port, Including World’s Largest Vessels

The “Cruise Capital of the World” lived up to its name last weekend, as PortMiami berthed ten cruise ships in one day.

In addition to these scheduled ships that were docked at the port on Saturday, Wonder of the Seas also made a last-minute stop for an emergency medevac which only lasted a few minutes.

Icon of the Seas and MSC World American in PortMiami

This unscheduled stop meant that at one point, 11 cruise ships were either docked or maneuvering through the port’s channels on Saturday.

Video of the Busy Day

The following timelapse from April 4, 2026, shows what it takes to get this many cruise passengers in and out of one of the busiest cruise ports in the world on its busiest day of the year.

Newer Mega Ships

Saturday in PortMiami saw its share of today’s latest and greatest cruise ships. While the port has seen 10-ship days in the past, the total gross tonnage in port on April 4 was right up there in the record books as well.

The day featured ships like Icon of the Seas (250,800 GT) and the new-to-Miami MSC World America (215,80 0GT). It also marked a major milestone for Norwegian Cruise Line, as the brand-new Norwegian Luna (156,300 GT) officially began its first-ever revenue sailing from Miami.

While Saturday was the busiest day so far for Miami’s cruise port, it fell just shy of the all-time world record set on November 30, 2025. On that day, PortMiami handled a record 75,201 passenger movements (cruisers both getting off and on cruise ships).

With the particular ships in port in Miami on Saturday, the port likely saw around 69,000 passenger movements.

Saturday’s Ships in Port

  • Icon of the Seas: 248,663 GT | 7,600 Max Passengers
  • MSC World America: 215,863 GT | 6,762 Max Passengers
  • Norwegian Luna: 156,300 GT | 4,200 Max Passengers
  • Norwegian Encore: 169,116 GT | 4,903 Max Passengers
  • Carnival Magic: 130,000 GT | 4,428 Max Passengers
  • Carnival Sunrise: 101,509 GT | 3,730 Max Passengers
  • Resilient Lady: 110,000 GT | 2,860 Max Passengers
  • Freedom of the Seas: 156,271 GT | 4,515 Max Passengers
  • Zuiderdam: 82,305 GT | 2,388 Max Passengers
  • Oceania Allura: 67,000 GT | 1,200 Max Passengers
  • Wonder of the Seas: 236,857 GT | 6,988 Max Passengers (Unscheduled Emergency Stop)

“Madness”: Cruise Passenger Reaction to the Busy Port Day

Comments from Cruise Fever’s Facebook post on the story brought out all kinds of reactions. Several passengers who got off the ships that day called it intense. One wrote, “I was disembarking on that day…..it was madness!!!”

Another said they got to the port very early “because we knew it was going to be madness.” Most of the feedback, however, focused on the traffic and chaos. People described the day as “Total Chaos!” They pointed to late disembarkations happening all at once, along with bad bottlenecks and difficult traffic direction.

One cruiser said they waited almost two hours for an Uber. Others saw passengers walking across the causeway with their luggage. Many called the traffic “an absolute nightmare” and “horrendous.”

Even regular cruisers said you need to bring patience, while others urged the port to fix its infrastructure because “Miami needs to work on the infrastructure to support all of the cruise passengers.”

Port Congestion

Cruise Fever has reported on multiple stories regarding letters from cruise lines to cruisers sailing out of Miami, warning of port congestion.  Traffic is a real problem, and it’s only getting worse.

Miami officials are reportedly discussing a metro rail system to help solve part of this problem by providing non-stop train service to and from the MIA airport.

Currently, both rideshare and taxi service going in and out of the port has been slow and difficult to manage on heavy port days like this. While the PortMiami Tunnel was a game-changer and definitely helped, it’s clear that other solutions are needed to help manage over 70,000 passenger movements on those very busy days.

After all, for the “Cruise Capital of the World” 10-ship days could eventually become the new normal.
