Couple Who Met On P&O Cruises Ship Celebrate Marriage And Baby Ahead Of First Family Sailing

A couple who first met on board a P&O Cruises ship in 2019 are marking Valentine’s Day by celebrating a romance that has spanned multiple sailings, an engagement in the Norwegian fjords, a wedding at sea and now their first cruise as parents.

Couple getting married on P&O cruise ship

Hannah, 25, and Mitchell Still, 28, from St Neots, first crossed paths on Ventura in September 2019 during a sailing to Amsterdam and Bruges. What began as a light-hearted prank on the opening night has since evolved into a relationship that has played out almost entirely on ships in the P&O Cruises fleet.

The pair, now parents to three-month-old daughter Mae, are preparing to introduce her to cruising this June when they sail to the Norwegian fjords on Iona, joined by extended family.

A Meeting Written In The Stars

Hannah, who grew up in Southampton and has holidayed with P&O Cruises since the age of 11, met Mitchell’s friends in Brodie’s Bar on the first evening of the cruise. Mitchell, meanwhile, was asleep in his cabin on what was his first ever cruise.

“It was destiny that I met the love of my life on a cruise,” Hannah said. “I’d spent so much of my childhood sailing the world with P&O Cruises and it just feels so magical that cruising is a huge part of our story.”

Recalling the moment they were introduced, she added: “I was 19 and convinced it was just a holiday romance. I met his friends first and they said Mitchell was asleep in his cabin. It was his first ever cruise. They dared me to wake him up as a prank. I remember saying to him, ‘hello, it’s the girl of your dreams’ and somehow, I was right!”

As Ventura sailed across the North Sea, the couple quickly became inseparable. Their first date took place ashore in Bruges, followed days later by their first kiss in the ship’s Havana nightclub.

“As it happens, my dad was in the vicinity when we had our first kiss. He was giving Mitchell the ‘I have my eyes on you’ look like Robert De Niro from Meet the Parents.

“But there’s something amazing about being on a ship – you’re away from real life, work doesn’t exist, and you’re your best self,” she said. “We spent so much time just talking, including an entire night at the buffet one evening.

“It all just clicked, and I think the uniqueness of the peaceful backdrop of the sea coupled with the energy on board, brought out this beautiful chemistry in us.”

When the cruise came to an end, the reality of parting ways was difficult.

“I cried the whole way home,” Hannah recalled. “Ventura wasn’t just where we met, it felt like a character in our story.”

From Engagement At Sea To Wedding On The Ocean

Cruising soon became central to the couple’s relationship, with return sailings helping to cement their bond. A subsequent trip to the Canary Islands on Ventura strengthened their connection.

In 2023, Mitchell proposed while the couple were sailing through the Norwegian fjords on Britannia. He asked Hannah to marry him ashore in Flåm, beside a waterfall.

Couple getting married with P&O Cruises

That evening, the ship’s dining team marked the occasion with a handwritten ‘Happy Engagement’ message on their menu, which Hannah has kept as a memento.

“When I realised you could actually get married at sea, there was no question,” she said. “It had to be a P&O Cruises ship. I didn’t care about anything else.”

The couple married in May 2025 on board Azura, Ventura’s sister ship, during a Greek Islands cruise. The ceremony took place in the Planet Bar, with panoramic ocean views providing the backdrop.

Hannah said: “Walking around the ship afterwards with everyone clapping was surreal – I felt like a film star. Even the entertainment hosts remembered us from our very first cruise years earlier and gave us a wedding gift. It honestly felt like all the stars had aligned.”

A New Generation Of Cruisers

Mae was born in November and, at just three months old, is already preparing for her first sailing. In June, the family will board Iona for a fjords cruise, joined by relatives in what Hannah describes as “a real family affair”.

“Cruising has always been part of my life, and continuing that tradition for Mae feels so special,” she said. “Watching her look out at the fjords for the first time – I can’t wait.”

The couple’s home features reminders of their maritime milestones, including model ships of Ventura and Azura and nautical-themed wedding gifts, such as an anchor-shaped doorbell.

“People buy us cruise-themed presents because everyone knows how much it means to us,” Hannah said.

Reflecting on their journey, she added: “It’s like a dream. To know that P&O Cruises played such a huge role in our love story – and that we’re now continuing it as a family – feels incredibly special.

“We can’t wait to tell Mae one day that it all started on a ship. I feel so privileged to have spent so much time sailing the world and I’m just so excited for Mae to feel that same spark for cruising that I do.”

Carnival UK & P&O Cruises president Paul Ludlow said: “Hannah and Mitchell’s story is a wonderful example of the meaningful connections people make at sea. From meeting and falling in love, to getting engaged, married and now returning with their daughter, it’s incredibly special to see how P&O Cruises has been part of every chapter of their journey. Our ships are designed to bring people together, create unforgettable moments and become a part of life’s biggest milestones – and this story really brings that to life.”

Hurtigruten announced their first ever fjord-fjord only sailing and their first cruises out of Copenhagen that will provide easier access for North Americans.

They unveiled three new “Limited Collection” itineraries that will take guests to places that have been out of reach since the cruise line’s inception in 1893.

Hurtigruten guests will be able to explore fjords and parts of Norway other cruise lines can simply not reach.

The cruises will be guided by the unrivalled insight of its captains. Guests will explore areas of the high Arctic and world-famous western fjords more in-depth than ever before.

The new “Signature Collection” sailings include:

  • The Inner Fjords Explorer, a fjord-only itinerary
  • The Arctic Circle Explorer, an eight-day trip from Tromsø
  • The Arctic Line, a 12-day trip along the coast of Norway

All cruises include Hurtigruten’s Signature onboard premium experience that includes all-inclusive dining and drinks, daily talks from the Expedition Team, and the cruise line’s award-winning Norway’s Coastal Kitchen concept.

Guests who book by April 30, 2026 will receive up to $500 in onboard credit per cabin.

Carly Biggart, Head of Hurtigruten Americas, gave the following statement about these new cruises:

“As we continuously see a tremendous growth to Norway and growing interest in this incredible destination, Hurtigruten is creating more exciting opportunities for North Americans to experience this beautiful country. For the first time ever, we will offer both a fjord-only itinerary and one that remains solely above the Arctic Circle, one of the most stunningly beautiful parts of Norway.

“With Copenhagen as a new port for the Arctic Line, it will be even easier to combine a cruise with one of Europe’s most appealing cities. These in addition to our recently launched tours truly emphasizes Hurtigruten’s role as the most authentic and immersive travel leader on Norway.”

Hedda Felin, CEO at Hurtigruten, added:

“No one knows the Norwegian coastline like Hurtigruten. These new voyages are rooted in generations of local knowledge, allowing our captains to adapt each journey to the conditions of the day – revealing Norway at its most spectacular. They are voyages shaped by nature, guided by expertise, and created for travelers who want to truly connect with the places they visit, not just sail past them.”

Wonder-of-the-Seas-Royal-Caribbean.jpg

No, You Can’t Give a Sales Pitch to Other Guests on a Cruise

Most of us go on cruises to get away from it all, especially work.  But according to a recent social media post, some guests were bringing work with them on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship and pitching health products to other cruisers.

A reddit user took to the platform to ask if there was “a mutli-level marketing group on Wonder right now” after being “bombarded” with sales pitches.

Wonder of the Seas Royal Caribbean

What was supposed to be a relaxing cruise on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas turned into a series of unwanted sales pitches for one passenger this week.

A cruiser shared their frustration on Reddit after being repeatedly targeted by fellow passengers selling “stem cell patches.”

“I Guess If it Were Me…”

The passenger, who is currently cruising in a walking boot, believes their injury may have made them an “easy mark” for representatives of a multi-level marketing (MLM) group on board.

“I have never in my life been bombarded with as many sales pitches for stem cell patches as I have on this trip,” the cruiser wrote. “In fact, I have never experienced it on any previous cruises.“

The interactions reportedly took place on the pool deck. The passenger stated,

“As I was sitting with my kids, enjoying the pool deck, the last frustrated gal to pitch me left me with ‘I guess if it were me, I’d be willing to do anything to get healthy for my kids….’ before walking away. Yuck.”

Identifying the Group

Reddit users went into investigation mode and began searching for the possible source of the high-pressure sales pitches.

One user located a “Bahamas Luxury Cruise” event for “brand partners” of the company LifeWave, scheduled for February 8–13, the same dates as the current sailing.

LifeWave is a multi-level marketing company founded in 2004 that sells phototherapy patches.

Another passenger, apparently confirmed the connection to the company, saying, “My wife’s aunt does that… and was just posting about being on a Royal cruise! I just checked and she’s on the Wonder of the Seas right now!”

Royal Caribbean’s Stance on Solicitation

Royal Caribbean’s official Guest Conduct Policy is clear on “inappropriate or abusive behavior.”

The policy states that guests are expected to be respectful and that “inappropriate or abusive behavior is not permitted,” which specifically includes “uninvited physical contact, solicitation, [and] harassment” among other things.

The policy also covers banners and flyers.  Passengers are not allowed to “place materials (including signs, banners, decorations, etc.) anywhere on the exterior of the ship, or anywhere on the interior of the ship (including stateroom doors, along corridors, etc.) without the express permission of ship management.”

Cruisers in the thread were pretty much unanimous in what the traveler should do next. “I would report them to guest services,” wrote one user. “No one should be soliciting you while on your vacation.”

Large Group Cruises

If you’ve been cruising for any length of time, chances are you’ve been on a large group cruise without even knowing it, unless you happened to notice 100 or more people wearing the same t-shirts.

Most of the time, especially on a large ship like Wonder of the Seas, these group’s activities go largely unnoticed.

Other times, a large group cruise can change the entire feel of the vacation. I went on a cruise a while back that was a large group cruise for a certain brand of music, and it felt like more than 50% of the ship was in on it and half the lounges on the ship were reserved for this group.

If you want to check if your next vacation might overlap with a large group there are a few things you can do:

  • Search for Event Calendars: Use a search engine to look for “Ship Name + Date + Group” or “Ship Name + Date + Convention.”
  • Check “Theme Cruise” Trackers: Websites like Theme Cruise Finder list many large-scale organized events.
  • The “Roll Call” Test: Check the “Roll Call” for your ship and sailing date on forums like Cruise Critic or even on Facebook. If a group of 500+ people is coming, the regulars usually know about it.

Bottom Line

Don’t be “that guy” that uses a cruise vacation to advertise your business or company.  Besides being a pain to others around you who just want to get away from it all, you might be breaking cruise line policy as well.

For the frustrated passenger on Wonder of the Seas, the discovery that this was a specific group event was a relief. “I was hoping it was a specific cruise thing and not just how it is now. I’d have to stop cruising,” they wrote.

“John has demonstrated his ability to lead businesses through meaningful transformation with a focus on operational rigor and accountability… We are excited for John to assume the role of President and Chief Executive Officer and are confident his leadership will enhance execution, strengthen financial performance, reduce leverage and drive long-term shareholder value.“

During his five years at Subway, Chidsey was credited with modernizing the brand and strengthening its “long-term growth trajectory.”

Norwegian is looking for that same magic. The company said that Chidsey is uniquely qualified to lead “pivotal moments” by restoring discipline and improving performance.

Chidsey stated:

“I am honored to take on the role of President and Chief Executive Officer at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings. I look forward to building upon the solid foundation already in place, laid out by the Company’s award-winning brands, dedicated team and crew members, and loyal guests. In my new position, my priority will be to partner with the Board and management team to sharpen execution, improve performance, and continue providing exceptional vacation experiences while delivering durable, long-term value creation.”

The company is set to release its full 2025 financial report on March 2, 2026, so this will be Chidsey’s first major opportunity to lay out his specific vision for the future of Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Meyer Turku Reveals Net Zero Cruise Ship Concept Targeting 90 Percent Emissions Cut

Finland’s leading shipbuilder Meyer Turku has introduced a groundbreaking cruise ship concept designed to achieve net-zero emissions, setting out plans that could reduce carbon output by more than 90 percent compared with current International Maritime Organization standards.

The concept, developed under the AVATAR research project, outlines a large cruise vessel that would combine renewable fuels, lighter construction and advanced onboard energy systems. If brought to fruition, the design could result in one of the cleanest large cruise ships ever constructed.

At the heart of the proposal is a shift towards bio-methanol as the ship’s primary fuel source. Produced from renewable materials, bio-methanol generates significantly fewer emissions than conventional marine fuels. By adopting this alternative fuel, the vessel would be able to operate with a drastically reduced carbon footprint without sacrificing operational performance or reliability.

Alongside the fuel innovation, the ship’s physical design has been refined to improve efficiency. Engineers have worked to minimise weight and reduce hydrodynamic drag, ensuring the vessel requires less energy to travel through the water. These structural efficiencies play a central role in achieving the overall emissions target.

Advanced Energy Systems On Board

Energy efficiency has also been prioritised within the ship itself. The concept incorporates next-generation air-handling systems capable of cutting heating and cooling demands on cabin decks by nearly 50 percent.

In addition to lowering overall energy consumption, this approach would enhance passenger comfort by maintaining stable cabin temperatures while limiting environmental impact.

The vessel would also integrate a range of renewable energy technologies, including wind-assisted propulsion, extensive solar panel arrays and intelligent energy management software.

Working together, these systems would generate supplementary renewable power during voyages and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

A Digital Twin For Smarter Design

Among the most forward-looking elements of the project is the use of digital twin technology.

Engineers create a comprehensive virtual replica of the vessel, enabling them to simulate real-world conditions such as varying weather patterns, sailing routes, fuel consumption, passenger behaviour and maintenance requirements.

By testing thousands of potential scenarios before physical construction begins, designers can optimise performance, efficiency and sustainability at every stage. This data-driven approach not only reduces risk but also ensures that environmental targets are embedded into the ship’s design from the outset.

While the concept remains at the research and development stage, Meyer Turku’s proposal highlights the accelerating push within the cruise sector towards cleaner propulsion and lower emissions.

As regulatory pressure intensifies and cruise lines seek to meet increasingly ambitious climate targets, innovative designs such as this could help define the next era of large-ship cruising.
