Man Arrested After Jumping Into Port Waters Near Enchanted Princess

Princess Cruises’ Enchanted Princess was forced to initiate a brief man-overboard response in Martinique after a man jumped into the water beside the ship on Saturday, 29th November 2025.

The Royal-class vessel was securely docked at the Caribbean island when the individual, who was not a passenger or crew member, reportedly bypassed security checks and entered a restricted area at the port.

He then leapt into the harbour directly alongside the 3,660-passenger ship.

Crew members immediately deployed a life ring and launched a rescue boat to retrieve the man, who was taken ashore and transferred to local police custody.

Princess Cruises confirmed that the incident did not involve anyone going overboard from the ship itself.

Witnesses reported that the man was handed over to authorities by around 10 am.

No motive has been made public, and officials have not said whether the individual may have been fleeing a separate police matter. Simply entering the secure zone without authorisation is itself an offence.

The rescue operation caused no delays to Enchanted Princess’ schedule. The ship is currently sailing a 12-night Southern Caribbean holiday itinerary that departed Fort Lauderdale on 23rd November. The ship is due to return to Florida on 3rd December.

Similar Incidents Reported

While man-overboard alerts at sea typically signal a genuine emergency involving a guest or crew member, a small number of recent incidents have involved people entering the water from piers or port areas rather than cruise ships.

In June 2025, a person jumped off the pier in Juneau, Alaska in what appeared to be a social-media stunt.

The previous December, police in the Canary Islands intercepted a man attempting to swim from a pier to a docked ship.

Cruise guests have also occasionally slipped accidentally from piers while distracted, including during preview sailings of Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas in August 2025.

Authorities consistently warn that such behaviour is dangerous and can lead to injury, arrest, disembarkation and future bans from cruising.

Meat Loaf Tribute Cruise Returns in 2026 With Bigger Rock Experience at Sea

The theatrical spirit of Meat Loaf will once again take to the ocean waves in 2026, as Steve Steinman’s rock spectacular returns for a second high-octane sailing following its sell-out success last year.

Anything For Love Cruise 2026

Steinman’s 2024 cruise, built around his hit production Anything for Love – the Meat Loaf Story, became MSC Cruises’ biggest and fastest-selling independent booking in the line’s history.

More than 1,700 cabins were snapped up, prompting huge demand for a return to sea.

Now, an extended itinerary is confirmed. Anything For Love Cruise 2026 will depart Southampton on 5th September 2026 for a seven-night voyage aboard MSC Virtuosa, calling at La Rochelle, Bilbao, La Coruña and Cherbourg.

Exclusive Performances Only at Sea

Steinman has spent over 30 years performing tributes to Meat Loaf and the late Jim Steinman, touring theatres and arenas with a devoted fanbase who travel far and wide to see him. Onboard, cruisers can expect exclusive performances that will not be available on land.

His ten-piece band will return, along with fan favourites including “Everything They Said Was True”. The single, written by John Parr and Meat Loaf, was gifted to Steinman and became a number one rock hit.

MSC Virtuosa ship

Adding rock pedigree to the line-up is Kasim Sulton, the respected bassist, singer and producer who worked extensively with Meat Loaf and Todd Rundgren.

Sulton played bass on the original Bat Out of Hell album, sang on Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, toured the world with The Neverland Express and later served as Meat Loaf’s musical director.

How the Rock Cruise Concept Was Born

Not Just Travel consultant Vikki Coffey attended Vampires Rock and found herself sitting next to a superfan who had seen the show five times in eight weeks.

Having previously worked on cruise ships, Coffey instantly recognised the potential of taking Steinman’s loyal following to sea.

“It was obvious that Steve’s audience would cross the country without hesitation to see him perform,…

“Creating a unique cruise experience where that devoted community could gather for an exclusive show was the logical next step.”

A single message to Steinman set plans in motion. The first sailing sold out rapidly and fans leapt at the opportunity to book again. The 2026 cruise is already two-thirds full.

“When you’ve spent three decades building relationships with audiences, you understand the power of creating exclusive experiences for them,

“What Vikki and I have built with these cruises is something truly special. It’s not just about the performances, it’s about bringing our community together for an unforgettable week of rock music magic on the high seas.”

Virgin Voyages Launches Adults-Only Season Pass to Alaska

Virgin Voyages is introducing a month-long season pass for Alaska in summer 2026, giving guests the chance to spend 30 days exploring the Last Frontier aboard Brilliant Lady on an adults-only basis.

Brilliant Lady

The Alaska Summer Season Pass is marketed as a residency at sea rather than a traditional holiday, appealing to travellers who want a slower pace with plenty of scenery, wildlife and time to relax.

Prices begin at $26,000 for two guests sharing a Central Sea Terrace cabin.

“Alaska is one of the most awe-inspiring places on Earth. Experiencing it aboard Brilliant Lady means you get the adventure without sacrificing comfort, style or that Virgin sense of discovery, and without a single child on board,”

Virgin Voyages CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu.

What the Pass Includes

The package offers daily drink credits, complimentary laundry for the entire 30 days, an upgraded Work From Sea WiFi package for those who need to stay connected, entry to the thermal spa, priority boarding and exclusive welcome events.

Guests also receive up to $250 per person to spend on shore excursions and a dedicated glacier excursion is included.

Dolphin in Alaska

Virgin Voyages is also providing an Alaska gear bundle featuring binoculars, a jacket, a backpack, a reusable water bottle and a Canon G7X camera.

Brilliant Lady will operate mostly 7-night itineraries from Seattle to ports such as Ketchikan, Juneau and Sitka.

Season pass guests will remain onboard between sailings while other travellers disembark and embark each week.

Travel Periods and Pricing

There are four 30-day options, with prices varying by date:

• 28th May to 23rd June: from $26,000 for two
• 23rd June to 23rd July: from $38,000 for two
• 30th July to 27th August: from $35,000 for two
• 27th August to 26th September: from $36,000 for two

All voyages operate round-trip from Seattle.

A Growing Line-Up of Long-Stay Offers

Virgin Voyages has previously trialled extended stays, including a European month-long season pass and an annual pass that allows unlimited sailings.

The 2026 version of the annual pass, which includes a stay on Richard Branson’s Necker Island, is priced at $199,000 per person.

As more travellers seek immersive, adults-only holidays with remote-working flexibility, Virgin Voyages appears keen to make long cruising stays a signature offering, with Alaska now joining the programme for those in search of a child-free summer adventure.

New additions to the 2026 calendar include theme cruises designed to allow guests to explore their interests and curiosities while enjoying Riverside’s signature service.

The six-night Pearls of the Danube Golf Cruise (July 23–29) brings guests to championship courses in five historic cities, including Hungary’s oldest golf course and several of Europe’s top-ranked venues. Personalized guidance from an onboard golf pro helps guests refine their game both on deck and on the fairway, complemented by enriching talks and swing sessions on the Vista Deck.

Beer enthusiasts can look forward to Hops & Heritage: Cruising Through Centuries of Brewing Craftmanship (July 29–August 5) on the Rhine River. Curated and hosted by noted beer sommelier James Kellow, this first-of-its-kind luxury voyage through Europe’s legendary beer heartlands pairs regional brews with gourmet dining, celebrating beer’s cultural roots and craftsmanship.

The eight-night Destination Danube: Hungary National Day & Scenic Wachau Valley (August 19) coincides with Hungary’s National Day celebrations, when parades, folk traditions, fireworks, and regional cuisine fill Budapest—and Riverside guests will have the best view from the ship’s prime docking location. The itinerary continues to Bratislava, Vienna, and Linz before concluding in Passau.

What’s New for 2027

Riverside Mozart introduces new routing on the Danube River for 2026 and 2027, including many options sailing round-trip from Vienna. New 14-night itineraries allow travelers to explore the Upper Danube without repeating a single port and offer flexible embarkation options for a more customized experience. Riverside’s flexible scheduling model also includes shorter Danube sailings ranging from three- to seven-nights. In addition, Riverside Mozart will call on a guest favorite, the Lower Danube, again in 2027.

In France, Riverside Ravel will offer a new highlight to their Rhône itineraries—an evening sailing through the Rhône Delta south of Arles, where the river flows into the Mediterranean Sea. This UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve is home to flocks of pink flamingos, free-roaming white horses, and black bulls. From July through September, when water levels are more stable, Ravel will add the Saône River to the schedule.

On the Rhine River, Riverside Debussy will continue to sail through the Netherlands and Belgium in spring 2026 and 2027, celebrating the magic of tulip season. During summer, Debussy will operate the classic Amsterdam–Basel route, including new four- and five-night sailings ideal for pairing with land tours. In spring and fall 2026, the ship repositions to the Danube, sailing a seven-night Bavarian itinerary before spending a month exploring the Lower Danube between Hungary and Romania.

Why You Keep Seeing ‘Ron Swanson’ on Carnival Commercials (and It’s Really Him)

It’s Cyber Monday, and it feels like every company on the planet is sending out emails and blasting their discounts and specials across every app and square inch of screen space.

And it’s no different for cruise lines.  You can check out the latest cruise deals for Cyber Monday here.

But a certain ad campaign from Carnival has been catching people by surprise.

Ron Swanson Carnival commercial

If you’ve watched TV or seen any online videos lately, you’ve probably done a double-take at the Carnival Cruise Line commercial.  “Is that Ron Swanson from Parks and Rec?”  you might have asked.

The beloved character, known for his woodworking skills, hatred of paying taxes, and love for eating red meat, began showing up in Carnival ads in mid-November.

And here’s why Carnival hiring the world’s most serious-minded woodworker is a pretty savvy move the company hopes will turn into future cruise passengers.

It’s Not Nick Offerman After All. It Really Is Ron Swanson

Here’s the weird truth about these commercials.  Nick Offerman is the actor who played Ron Swanson in Parks and Recreation.  But Carnival didn’t hire “Nick” perse.  They wanted Swanson.

They even brought in Offerman’s writing team from Parks and Recreation to co-write the ads.  Keep in mind that this show ran for 7 seasons (ending in 2015) and was very successful in its own right.

So, when fans of the show see these commercials, they connect right away with the character they watched and rewatched.

That’s why the humor lands so perfectly. It’s not a generic celebrity plug. It feels like an extended and interesting side-story where Ron Swanson is forced to acknowledge the existence of fun.

When his character breaks down and escapes to the deck of a cruise ship in the ads, it’s more like a snippet from an 8th season of the show than an advertisement.

The commercials are like sketches from a creative team that knows the character and exactly how he would react in certain situations.

The “Anti-Fun” Guy Sells Fun

The whole campaign is called “Find Your Fun Again,” and it’s built on the idea that Americans are burnt out, stuck on their phones, and generally miserable.

Now, who is the last person you’d expect to lead a campaign about easy, adventurous, organized fun? Exactly. Nick Offerman—cough, cough, I mean Ron Swanson.

The ads literally start with Offerman smashing his phone because the digital noise is too much. His escape isn’t to a remote cabin. But it is to a Carnival cruise.

The message is clear and compelling.  If the guy who gives advice on building your own canoe thinks a cruise is a great way to detox and get out, then maybe it really is the answer to “what should we do for a vacation this year?”.

And of course, these commercials carry the same humor we expect from Ron Swanson, with witty lines like “heights are afraid of me.”.

They’re Changing Who They Talk To

Carnival knows their history. They’ve had high-energy spokespeople like Shaq, and they are well-known for being the “Fun Ship.” But those things can also come with a certain stereotype.

Hiring Offerman is a savvy way to talk to people who might be a little cynical about cruising.  It’s going after the ones who think it’s too cheesy, too loud, or too commercial.

Carnival is banking on the fact that when you see Ron Swanson enjoying a buffet, the irony is so perfect, you can’t help but pay attention.  And you’ll probably laugh a little too.

The genius of ads like this are that they are very shareable.  When a company gets people who watch their commercials to want to show their friends what “Swanson” was doing on a cruise ship, they get free eyeballs.

“We believe Nick Offerman is the best person to be our ‘unlikely hero of fun.’ His signature blend of wry humor and credibility is the perfect way to deliver our message,” said Amy Martin Ziegenfuss, chief marketing officer of Carnival Cruise Line. “Nick’s personal mission, which aims to get kids off their screens and start creating projects, aligns with our vision of encouraging people to get out, reconnect and find their fun again, with Carnival.”

Parent Ignores the Adult-Only Part of Cruise Ship Spa Rules, Blames Staff for Getting the Boot

Adult-only areas are supposed to be just that.  And it’s nothing against kids.  It’s just that on a cruise ship, nothing is more annoying to passengers who want some peace and quiet than parents who ignore the rules and let their kids “roam wild”.

A recent Thanksgiving cruise led to frustration for one passenger after a child was allowed into what was supposed to be the adult-only spa area.

Spa thermal suite on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas

In a social media post entitled “No Kids must not mean MY kid!”, a cruiser came to Reddit to vent about a situation in which another passenger brought a child “somewhere between 5 and 7 years old” into the spa.

This irked the passenger who had paid an extra $600 for access to the adults only spa for herself and her husband for the week. She noticed the presumed father, who was “lying on a lounger sleeping (or just ignoring the kid),” while the child was restless: “jumping and squirming around.”

The child was clearly bored in an area meant for quiet relaxation.

This kind of situation is a common frustration for cruisers, although more cruise lines are trying to crack down on the problem of parents ignoring signs and rules for their children.

As one commenter pointed out, “No kids’ isn’t a suggestion, it’s literally the rule. Paying extra for peace and quiet isn’t a flex, it’s a right.”

When parents ignore that rule, they are taking away the experience other people paid for.

Spa therapy pool on Norwegian Escape

Deflecting Responsibility

Thankfully, the staff on the ship noticed the child and weren’t going to let the rules get bent any longer. A spa attendant “nicely and quietly explained that the spa was for adults only and to please take the child out.”

The mother then showed up and said to her child: “Oh, honey, THEY don’t want you in here, so now we all have to leave.”

Cruisers React to the Situation

It was a line that definitely fired up the comments on Reddit, as the post quickly racked up over 130 comments in just a few hours.

The online reaction focused on how quickly the parent shifted the blame. Instead of saying, “We made a mistake,” she made the child the reason for their removal. One comment stated that the mother “said it to put the responsibility on the spa attendant and not the idiot father that brought the child.”

Many felt this was unfair to the child. As one user wrote, “That poor kid… Not being wanted is a different level of hurt than just about everything else.”

A Lack of Options Was Not the Problem

What makes the parent’s actions especially unforgivable to some is the number of child-friendly alternatives available on the ship. While the exact ship or cruise line was not named, the original poster noted the ship was “extremely child friendly and had an arcade, a ‘kid’s zone’, TWO water slides and bumper cars?!”

The parents ignored many better, age-appropriate choices, or even using the cruise ship’s kid’s program for a while.  One interesting comment stated it well: “Kids don’t ruin everything, adults doing nothing while ignoring their kid do.”

It was also mentioned that the parents did not need to make a group exit. “Both parents were present – one could have taken the kid and left while the other got their spa time in, then trade off,” one comment reacted.

cruise ships in port, costa maya mexico

What About the Money?

Beyond the noise and ruined peace, other cruisers pointed out the extra money that was paid for the thermal suite access. One said it plainly: “Hey lady. I paid $600 to enjoy my day without your child bothering me. Please take your child from the adult only area. Or pay me back the $600 you are wasting on me.”

Cruise lines that charge extra for thermal suite access only allow so many people to access it throughout the week.  Once that allotted number is sold, you can’t get in.  And for those who do have access it’s all about utilizing that time wisely.

Some comments pointed out that the “It’s for the kids!” mantra is often used to excuse bad behavior, referencing parents who tell their children “to help themselves to buffets they haven’t paid for, [or] sending your kids unsupervised to the pool so you can scroll your phone in peace…”

Bottom Line

Some of today’s cruise ships are huge.  They can accommodate thousands of passengers at one time, with some having a max capacity of over 7,000.  Whenever you have that many people on one ship, you are bound to have some bad apples.  But as long as cruise lines are enforcing the rules equally, it helps to make sure everyone can have the vacation they’ve been dreaming of.

The key here is this: Don’t be the passenger that ends up messing up someone else’s vacation just because you think you’re the exception to the rule. The golden rule still applies.

World’s Newest Expedition Ship Christened in Sydney

The world’s newest expedition ship, Douglas Mawson, was officially named and christened in a spectacular ceremony in Sydney Harbour.

Douglas Mawson

The ship from Aurora Expeditions was christened in a different way than most new cruise ships are. Instead of breaking a bottle of champagne, it was named by breaking ice across the bow.

Purpose-built for adventure, Douglas Mawson features the groundbreaking X-BOW hull design for smoother and more efficient voyages, along with advanced sustainability technologies including fuel-efficient diesel-electric propulsion and waste-heat recovery systems.

Onboard, guests will discover panoramic lounges, expansive observation decks, a two-story atrium and a dedicated Citizen Science Center, where travelers can participate in live research and environmental monitoring, blending exploration and conservation in every cruise.

Emma McEwin, godmother of Douglas Mawson, gave the following statement:

“To christen this remarkable ship in my great-grandfather’s name is an immense honor. The Douglas Mawson carries forward his legacy of courage, science and wonder, exploring the world with the same respect for nature and curiosity that defined his life.”

Emma McEwin is the great-granddaughter of the legendary Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.

After the christening ceremony, the ship departed on its inaugural 10-night circumnavigation of Tasmania. From Tasmania, the new cruise ship will continue south to Antarctica and the Sub-Antarctic Islands before heading north to Europe, then on to the Arctic.
