Carnival Adventure Odour Complaints Prompt AMSA Inspection As Passengers Report Illness

Australian maritime authorities inspected Carnival Adventure after receiving a complaint about an unpleasant odour on board, with passengers also reporting nausea, breathing difficulties and problems with cabins and plumbing during recent cruises from Sydney.

Carnival Adventure cruise ship sailing on a blue ocean.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) confirmed that an inspector boarded the Carnival Cruise Line ship and spoke with its captain and relevant crew after the complaint was received in August.

Although the odour was no longer present when the inspection took place, AMSA said its likely source and cause were identified. Carnival was already carrying out remedial work, and the authority did not issue a formal defect.

The inspection followed complaints from passengers who described strong sewage, rotten egg and diesel-like smells in cabins and public areas of the 13-deck ship.

One Queensland passenger, Elicia, 38, said she became seriously unwell during a ten-day cruise on Carnival Adventure while travelling with her partner to celebrate their engagement.

She claimed she noticed what she described as an exhaust diesel smell shortly after boarding and subsequently experienced migraines, nausea, breathing problems and other symptoms.

Passenger says illness forced early departure

Elicia said difficulties with her original cabin meant she spent time waiting in another part of the ship while discussing the accommodation with housekeeping and guest services.

She claimed the cabin had not been properly cleaned following the previous occupants and said medication and needles had been left behind.

Cruise bathroom

“I was forced to sit in the area that had the diesel exhaust because our room wasn’t cleaned,” she said.

“The previous passengers’ Mounjaro medication and needles were still in the room.”

She was moved to another cabin the following day but claimed there were further maintenance and cleanliness problems there.

“The carpet was moving in the “upgraded” clean room,” she said.

“It was so old and so gross, but also dangerous.

“The fridge couldn’t close and the lounge couldn’t fold back down, so you couldn’t sit on it.”

Elicia said she could detect the odour in several parts of Carnival Adventure, including close to the medical centre on Deck 4.

She later attended the ship’s medical facility and said she was connected to an EKG before another patient arrived requiring treatment.

“My O2 stats were in the early 90s and they never gave me oxygen, nothing,” she said.

Elicia said her condition included high blood pressure, a low heart rate, migraines, breathing difficulties and repeated dry retching.

“I had high blood pressure, was dry retching to the point where I couldn’t breathe, had a low heart rate, massive migraines and trouble breathing,” she said.

“Once, I was also in shock and going between being alert and not, and I also had mild hypothermia.”

She ultimately left the cruise at its first port of call, six days before she had originally expected to complete the voyage.

After returning home, Elicia said her GP told her that her reported symptoms were consistent with severe carbon monoxide poisoning.

“My GP was the one who said all my symptoms related to severe carbon monoxide poisoning,” she said.

“Carbon monoxide was building up in the body due to the diesel exhaust fumes I inhaled.”

Her account of the cause of her illness has not been independently confirmed by the maritime regulator.

AMSA investigates separate odour complaint

Another passenger, identified as Natalie, reported encountering a strong smell during a separate four-day Carnival Adventure cruise from Sydney’s White Bay with her five-year-old son.

She said the pair left their inside cabin during their first night after waking to what she described as a sewage-like smell, with her son eventually sleeping near Guest Services while she sought assistance.

“We woke during the night to an incredibly strong sewage-type smell in our internal cabin,” Natalie said.

“It was bad enough that my five-year-old and I left the room in the middle of the night.

“He was feeling really unwell and ended up sleeping near Guest Services at 2am while I tried to get help.”

Natalie described the odour as resembling rotten eggs and said she noticed it elsewhere on the ship, particularly around the midship area.

She was initially moved to another cabin for one night before being allowed to stay there for the remainder of the sailing, but said the replacement accommodation was also affected by an odour that appeared to be coming from a drain.

Natalie and her son later visited the onboard medical centre after continuing to feel nauseous. She said she could smell the same odour when a nurse opened the door.

“When I got down there and the nurse opened the door, the rotten egg sewage smell was in there too,” she said.

“The nurse and doctor both said they were used to it now.”

Natalie subsequently complained to AMSA.

She said an inspector contacted her following an inspection and told her that ageing or defective plumbing traps were considered responsible for allowing hydrogen sulphide to escape, including a trap beneath a sink in the medical centre.

AMSA separately confirmed that it had received an odour complaint and carried out an inspection of Carnival Adventure.

“Earlier this month, AMSA received a complaint regarding an unpleasant odour onboard the Carnival Adventure,” an AMSA spokesman said.

“An AMSA inspector followed up on the complaint and boarded the vessel, engaging with the captain and relevant staff.”

The authority said the smell had disappeared before its inspector arrived but that investigators were still able to establish its likely origin.

“The odour was no longer present at the time of AMSA’s inspection, but the likely source and cause were identified,” the spokesman said.

“As remedial actions by Carnival were underway to address the source of the odour, no formal defect was issued.

“The outcome and findings from AMSA’s inspection were communicated to the passenger who made the complaint.”

Other passengers have also posted complaints online describing sewage-like odours and toilet problems aboard Carnival Adventure, although individual social media accounts have not been independently verified.

One passenger said their young son became ill after the family noticed a strong smell and required a visit to the ship’s medical centre.

Another described repeated problems with a toilet during a nine-day sailing, including delayed flushing, loud noises and two occasions when it overflowed.

Carnival Adventure continues to operate cruises from Sydney. The ship joined the Carnival Cruise Line fleet after previously sailing for P&O Cruises Australia as Pacific Adventure, as part of the integration of the P&O Cruises Australia operation into Carnival.

Seabourn Head Sommelier Dies Following Alleged Attack In Nice

A Seabourn head sommelier died after suffering a severe head injury during an alleged attack in Nice, France, with his family also raising concerns over the subsequent repatriation of his remains to India.

Vincent Gomez, known to his family as Sujoy, was returning from shore leave with another crew member when the incident occurred after his cruise ship called at Nice on 30th April 2026.

Seabourn Sommelier Dies Ashore In Assault

His sister, Sharon Gomes Dahlberg, said three men approached the pair as they were making their way back to the ship. The family believes the incident may have been an attempted robbery.

According to Sharon, Vincent was punched in the face and fell backwards, striking his head on the ground. Local residents came to assist before he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Vincent remained in critical condition and was subsequently declared brain dead by doctors, according to his family. Sharon travelled to France after learning what had happened and said she was told shortly after reaching the hospital that her younger brother had only hours to live.

The family says life support was withdrawn on 5th May, with Sharon at his bedside.

“I never in my life thought that this day would come to our family,” she wrote. “It’s so unfair to us.”

Police Investigation Following Nice Incident

Sharon said she later filed a police report with assistance from friends and was informed by French police that a suspect had been arrested. She also said surveillance footage had recorded the incident.

The family’s account of an arrest is consistent with reporting in France shortly after the attack that a suspect had been detained following an assault involving two cruise ship crew members near the Port of Nice.

However, the family’s description of the possible motive behind the attack has not been publicly established by French authorities.

Seabourn Venture

Vincent had worked in the cruise industry and was serving as a Head Sommelier for Seabourn at the time of the incident. His family described him as ambitious, hardworking and committed to his career, as well as a kind and humble person away from his professional life.

“Vincent was an exceptionally kind, hardworking, and respected crew member who loved his job, and his loss has left an irreplaceable void in our lives. The dignity of his life and service absolutely deserves to be remembered, and we want the truth of what happened to be told.” said his sister.

Family Raises Concerns Over Repatriation

The family has also made allegations concerning the arrangements for returning Vincent’s remains to India.

Sharon said Seabourn took responsibility for the repatriation process and that the family received repeated assurances that her brother’s remains were being kept in appropriate conditions while the required procedures were completed.

His remains were eventually returned to India on 6th July, around two months after his death.

According to Sharon, the condition in which her brother’s body arrived caused the family additional distress. Her allegations regarding the repatriation arrangements have not been independently established, and no response from Seabourn to those specific claims was included in the information available.

A funeral service was held at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Thane on 6th July, allowing Vincent’s parents, relatives and friends to gather for his funeral after the lengthy repatriation process.

His sister has continued to pay tribute to him in the months following his death, describing the impact the loss has had on the family.

“Sometimes I dream that you never left,” she wrote in her tribute. “Waking up from that dream feels like losing you all over again. I miss you every single minute.”

Carnival Rewards Launches With Major Loyalty Changes And New Platinum And Diamond Pins

Carnival Cruise Line’s biggest loyalty programme overhaul in years takes effect from 1st September 2026, replacing the long-running VIFP system with Carnival Rewards and introducing a new approach to status, points, milestone recognition and benefits.

Carnival Freedom Funnel

The change moves Carnival away from awarding loyalty status primarily according to days sailed. Under Carnival Rewards, most guests will instead qualify for status by earning “stars” through eligible spending with the cruise line, while a separate points currency can be redeemed towards cruise purchases and onboard experiences.

Carnival has also revealed the first Platinum and Diamond collectible pins for the new programme. The dated, ship-specific pins are available on cruises departing from 1st September onwards, although Gold guests will no longer receive loyalty pins.

Carnival Rewards was originally due to launch on 1st June 2026 before its introduction was postponed until September. Guests were given until 31st August to opt in and transfer their existing loyalty status and sailing history from VIFP.

Status Moves To A Spending-Based System

One of the most significant changes under Carnival Rewards is the way passengers earn and retain loyalty status.

Instead of status being permanently accumulated according to the number of days a guest has sailed, eligible Carnival spending will generate stars that count towards status. Those stars operate within two-year earning periods, meaning most passengers will have to continue earning to retain their level.

Carnival has made an exception for existing Diamond VIFP members. Following criticism of the original Carnival Rewards proposals, the cruise line announced in September 2025 that Diamond status already earned under VIFP would be recognised as lifetime Diamond status under the new programme.

Carnival drinks menu

Existing VIFP status earned by 31st August 2026 carries over and remains the guest’s Carnival Rewards status through December 2028, covering the programme’s first earning period. From January 2029, status will be determined by what members have earned during that period.

Platinum members will also receive a 10,000-star boost at the beginning of the next earning period, allowing them to start at Gold rather than the entry-level Red tier.

Carnival Rewards continues to provide different benefits according to status.

Members at every level receive a complimentary 1.5-litre bottle of water, while Gold members receive one complimentary beverage on cruises of five days or longer.

Platinum members receive two complimentary beverages, limited complimentary wash-and-fold laundry and selected priority or preferred access covering areas including online check-in, embarkation, debarkation, dining times and other onboard services.

Diamond remains Carnival Rewards’ highest tier. Its benefits include additional complimentary wash-and-fold laundry, although the service is no longer unlimited, guaranteed main dining time selections, retail concierge services and an invitation to a special event hosted by the Captain.

Several benefits associated with the previous VIFP programme have ended. These include Platinum and Diamond VIFP parties on selected sailings, VIFP-branded loyalty gifts, welcome treats and complimentary stateroom upgrades.

Alongside stars, Carnival Rewards members can earn points from eligible Carnival purchases and through the Carnival Rewards Mastercard for qualifying cardholders.

Those points can be redeemed against a range of cruise expenses. Members can use them towards a deposit or cruise fare as well as purchases including shore excursions, spa treatments, drinks packages, speciality dining and onboard shopping.

Carnival Rewards Points Earning

Carnival says there is no minimum points balance required before redemption, giving members the option of using smaller balances rather than waiting until they reach a particular threshold.

Milestones, meanwhile, remain linked to sailing history rather than spending.

Carnival confirmed in July that milestone recognition would be based on total days sailed from 1st September, replacing the previous system based on the number of cruises taken regardless of voyage length.

Recognition is available at 50 days, 100 days and every additional 100 days thereafter. Depending on the milestone reached, rewards can include bonus points, a commemorative coin, onboard credit and other benefits.

The cruise discount, onboard credit and complimentary cruise previously associated with VIFP milestones have been discontinued as part of the transition.

New Carnival Rewards Pins Revealed

Carnival has retained one of the more visible collectibles associated with its former loyalty programme, although eligibility has been narrowed.

Brand ambassador John Heald revealed the first Carnival Rewards Platinum and Diamond pins on 31st August, confirming they would be available on qualifying sailings beginning from 1st September.

“Here are the images of the Carnival Rewards Platinum and Diamond ship specific pins which can be collected from the photo gallery on cruises that start from September 1 onward,” Heald originally said.

John later updated his post to let people know that the pins would be delivered to cabins instead.

Both circular designs feature an image of the relevant Carnival ship in the centre, with Carnival Rewards branding and the cruise line’s funnel logo above. The year appears at the bottom, retaining the dated format that allows passengers to associate individual pins with particular cruises.

The Platinum version has silver framing together with red, gold and platinum dots of graduated sizes, while “Platinum” appears around the upper border.

The Diamond version adds a larger diamond-style dot alongside the red, gold and platinum markings, with “Diamond” around the upper border.

Carnival has traditionally changed its loyalty pin designs annually, although it has not been confirmed whether the Carnival Rewards versions will receive a different design each year (beyond the date changing, of course).

Only Platinum and Diamond members are eligible for the new pins. Gold-level pins, which were available under VIFP, have been discontinued.

Eligible passengers must collect their pin from the Pixels Photo Gallery during their cruise, where staff have a list of Platinum and Diamond guests and record when each pin is claimed.

Carnival has used onboard collection for loyalty pins since cruises resumed in 2021. Before the industry-wide pandemic suspension, pins had been delivered to passengers’ staterooms.

Availability can still depend on onboard supplies. Shipping delays affecting the 2026 VIFP pins earlier this year resulted in some guests being unable to collect them during their cruises. At the time, Heald said affected passengers could contact customer service after sailing to request that a pin be mailed to them.

The transition to Carnival Rewards has not been entirely smooth. Some passengers reported inconsistencies involving their previous VIFP information and the stars and points displayed under the new programme in the days leading up to the change.

Carnival’s website and Carnival Rewards systems were also unavailable during a planned 18-hour maintenance period from the evening of 29th August until midday on 30th August.

With the new programme taking effect from 1st September, Carnival’s loyalty structure now enters its first earning period, which runs through the end of 2028 before members’ status is recalculated for January 2029.

Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship Has the Luckiest Casino at Sea

One of Royal Caribbean’s 30 cruise ships has the luckiest casino at sea, according to a recent study done by Casinos.com. The study analysed over 5,000 Tripadvisor reviews, with Wonder of the Seas having the luckiest cruise ship casino.

Royal Caribbean casino
Casino on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Photo: Cruise Fever

Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras had the highest raw luck rate at 36.36%, based on just 66 reviews. Casinos.com used a Bayesian luck score to determine the luckiest casinos.

They analysed keywords including lucky, luck, won, winning, success, jackpot, hand pay, winner, bonus, profit, good fortune, hit big, cashed out, progressive jackpot, big win, high roller, free room, comped, free night, and generous to determine which cruise casino was the luckiest.

The 10 luckiest cruise ship casinos are:

  1. Wonder of the Seas
  2. Norwegian Bliss
  3. Sky Princess
  4. Anthem of the Seas
  5. Carnival Mardi Gras
  6. Carnival Vista
  7. MSC Meraviglia
  8. Norwegian Epic
  9. Azura
  10. Celebrity Infinity

Wonder of the Seas logged 36.13 luck-keyword mentions per 100 reviews.

Wonder of the Seas
Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas. Photo: Cruise Fever

Methodology

The raw luck rate is total keyword mentions divided by total reviews. A Bayesian adjustment was then applied for sample-size imbalance: Bayesian Score = (n x R + m x C) / (n + m), where n is the ship’s review count, R is its raw luck rate, m is the median review count across the 17 ships (340), and C is the fleet-wide average luck rate (0.251). Scores are expressed per 1,000 reviews.

The methodology counted keyword frequency in more than 5,000 reviews on Tripadvisor.

A version of the ranking using only the gambling-specific keywords produces a very similar order, with Sky Princess rather than Wonder of the Seas at number one.

Michael Graham, casino expert at Casinos.com, gave the following statement:

“Gambling at sea is the least transparent form of casino gambling most people will ever try. On land you can look up Nevada’s slot hold or Pennsylvania’s statutory minimum paybacks. At sea there is no equivalent number, because nobody is required to publish one.

“What that means in practice is that the only information a passenger has is the room itself. Is it busy, is it staffed properly, is there a tournament schedule, are the table limits and the payouts posted clearly? Look for 3:2 blackjack rather than 6:5, and check the roulette wheel for a single zero before you sit down, because at sea you will often find double zero as standard.

“And remember the casino only opens once the ship is out of territorial waters. On a port-heavy itinerary that can mean very little playing time, which is no bad thing for anybody trying to keep a holiday budget intact.”

Yes, These Cruise Ships Actually Have Full-Body Cryotherapy Chambers On board

Standing in -130°F temperatures might not sound like a dream vacation for you, but several cruise ships have introduced cryotherapy chambers to give cruisers exactly that experience.

I’m not talking about snow rooms and ice rooms. While these cooler options make for a more enjoyable spa experience on board, cryotherapy has a much deeper physical impact that many swear by.

Cruise ships with full body cryotherapy chambers
Mein Schiff Relax and MSC World Asia are two cruise ships with full body cryotherapy chambers on board.

If it’s a popular trend on land, it doesn’t take long for cruise ships to at least consider offering it to passengers at sea. At least that’s been the case for the health and wellness aspects of cruising.

Cold exposure was once reserved for professional athletes to help recover, but cryotherapy chambers have grown in popularity for people from all walks of life.

What Whole-Body Cryotherapy Actually Does

Unlike stepping into a chilly thermal room, a true whole-body cryotherapy session involves stepping into a sealed, high-tech cabin cooled between -130°F and -184°F (-90°C to -120°C).

You only stay inside for one to three minutes, but that extreme drop in temperature instantly triggers your body’s natural protection mode.

I know it sounds crazy if you’ve just heard about it for the first time. Most of us avoid extreme cold at all costs, but there are some big health benefits to this treatment.

Your surface blood vessels constrict almost immediately, and this pulls blood away from your skin and extremities straight toward your core to protect vital organs.

The second you step out of the chamber, that blood flushes back through your body packed with fresh oxygen and nutrients.

People who visit cryotherapy chambers regularly say they experience a rush of endorphins, reduced inflammation, faster muscle recovery, and a serious energy boost for the rest of the day.

It’s that last one that most beginner users say they experience the most.

4 Cruise Ships with Real Cryotherapy Chambers

While plenty of ships have cold exposure amenities (cold rooms, cryotherapy just for the face etc), only four major vessels currently feature dedicated sub-zero whole-body cryotherapy chambers on board:

Mein Schiff Relax (TUI Cruises)

Mein Schiff Relax was built around a high-tech wellness concept. Inside the spa, you’ll find a dedicated German-engineered Kältekammer (cryotherapy chamber). Guests go through a short pre-chamber before spending three minutes in a true -130°F environment.

You can check out this Youtube video from a Mein Schiff passenger using the cryo chamber on board. It’s an auto-translate from German, but should still give you an idea of what the experience is like. This is also a good time to point out that Mein Schiff is based in Germany and caters to a German-speaking audience.

Mein Schiff Flow (TUI Cruises)

Sister ship to Relax, Mein Schiff Flow has the exact same full-body chamber design to its spa. Flow just came out in June 2026 as the second Intuition-class ship.

It’s clear TUI sees cryotherapy as a permanent fixture for its wellness-focused passengers, so we can probably look to see more of these on TUI ships in the future. The next two Intuition-class ships are scheduled to debut in 2031 and 2032.

Four Seasons I (Four Seasons Yachts)

The ultra-luxury “yacht-liner” concept from Four Seasons takes wellness very seriously as well. Tucked inside the ship’s L’Oceana Spa is a dedicated whole-body cryochamber designed for fast cold therapy recovery in a high-end, private setting.

And it’s VERY cold. The chamber on board reaches temps as low as -250°F. With only 200 or so guests on board, it’s easier to schedule an appointment as well, and passengers can pair their cryotherapy sessions with an infrared chamber or ocean-view sauna.

MSC World Asia (MSC Cruises)

MSC World Asia is scheduled to make her debut in December 2026. It’s the third World-class ship with MSC Cruises but it will be the first to have a cryotherapy chamber.

Earlier in August, MSC Cruises revealed that the new ship would have “Whole-Body Cryotherapy, supporting muscle recovery, circulation and reduced inflammation.”

This will give active cruisers and gymgoers a serious recovery option after heavy workout sessions or long days exploring ports.

Snow Rooms vs. Cryo Facials: The Other Cold Options

If you aren’t sailing on one of those four specific ships, you’ll still find plenty of cold-inspired options to stay cool during a cruise to the Caribbean or hot-weather region:

  • Targeted Cryo-Body Treatments: Ships like Cunard’s Queen Anne have thermoshock devices. Instead of putting your whole body in a chamber, therapists use a localized device to freeze targeted areas for skin firming, spot treatment, and localized muscle relief.
  • Cryo Facials: Found on luxury ships like Crystal Cruises’ Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, these treatments use controlled streams of icy air focused on the face and neck to boost collagen and tighten skin.
  • Thermal Snow and Ice Rooms: Popular across Viking, Norwegian Cruise Line, MSC Cruises, and Celebrity Cruises, these are walk-in spa rooms featuring actual fallen snow or ice fountains. They are amazing for gradually cooling your body down after a hot sauna or too much time in the steam room. Personally, I love these snow rooms and it’s a great way to enjoy the ship’s spa longer.

Cruises You Should Avoid If You Want the Best Experience

Cruises offer the best vacation that money can buy. The value cruises offer is unparalleled when you compare them to every other type of vacation that is available.

cruise ships nassau
Cruise ships in Nassau, Bahamas. Photo: Cruise Fever

However, not all cruises are created equal. Here are a few cruises that you might want to avoid if you want the best possible experience.

Maiden Voyages

The launch of new cruise ships brings excitement with new features, dining options, entertainment, and more. They also bring some growing pains for the first few cruises. It often takes a few voyages to get all the kinks out, and I have learned this firsthand.

I have been on the maiden voyages of many new cruise ships on different cruise lines, and they pretty much have one thing in common. It takes a few days for everything to start running smoothly.

On some of these cruises, the shows and entertainment weren’t ready. On others, the app didn’t work right for the first half of the cruise. On others, dining was much slower than usual due to the staff all working together for the first time. On the bright side, things always ran much smoother by the end of the cruise.

There were also issues with the reservations system, WiFi, and a few other things that improved towards the end of the cruise. And the issue wasn’t just with one cruise ship; it seems that most new ships from all cruise lines always have a week or two adjustment period until crew members get things running at 100% proficiency.

If you want to sail on a brand new cruise ship, wait a few weeks and then go on it for the best experience.

Short Cruises During Spring Break

Short cruises to The Bahamas or Cozumel during spring break tend to be loud party cruises.

Now, if this is what you’re looking for, then go for it. However, if you want a quieter or more relaxing cruise, these voyages will not offer an optimal experience.

Margaritaville at Sea
Beware of shorter, cheaper cruises unless you want to party.

Cheapest Cruise You Can Book

I get it, sometimes you just want to book the cheapest cruise possible to save money. This often leads to booking a cruise that isn’t right for you. There are cruises for every type of traveler, from those who want an immersive cultural experience in Europe to those who just want a beach getaway in the Caribbean.

I know someone who will never take a cruise again because they did this. Instead of researching or using a travel agent to find a cruise that fit what they were looking for, they booked a cheap party cruise and were miserable the entire sailing.

First Cruise After a Dry Dock

carnival dry dock
A Carnival cruise ship in dry dock in Freeport, Bahamas.

The thought of taking a cruise on a ship that is just out of dry dock can be appealing to many cruisers. The ship will often have new restaurants, lounges, updated cabins, and other great amenities. If you are thinking about booking a cruise on a ship that is right out of dry dock, you may want to pass on the very first cruise and opt for a week or two later.

Many times, all the repairs and renovations are not completed by the end of the dry dock. I have read reports from cruisers complaining about construction still taking place throughout the week, and parts of the ship were still closed.

On one cruise, several passengers had their cruise canceled last minute because the construction workers needed a place to stay, and the cruise line bumped them from their cabins.

On one of my cruises, the ship was headed into dry dock when the cruise was over. On the day of debarkation, workers had already started work tearing up the pool deck. While this didn’t bother me, some passengers were bothered by it. It’s something worth considering.

Cruises with Large Themed Groups

There are two types of group cruises: those who charter the entire ship and those that just have a large group on board standard cruises. This is about the second group.

Large themed groups often change the entire atmosphere of cruise ships. They usually have parts of the ship blocked off for them to use (lounges, etc.), and it just creates a non-optimal cruise experience.

To see if there is a large themed group on your cruise, Google your cruise ship and the dates of your sailing. If there is a themed group cruise on your sailing, it will show up in search results from their website promoting it.

Last week, Princess Cruises sent an email to travel agents informing them that the cruise line will visit RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay for the first time starting in November.

Many cruisers who have a cruise booked that was scheduled to visit Princess Cays said that they received an email saying the port stop was being changed to Half Moon Cay.

After a search on Princess Cruises’ website, all port stops to Princess Cays for later this fall have been removed from itineraries. The cruise line still has several scheduled visits to the port in September and October.

Cruise Fever reached out to Princess Cruises, and a spokesperson for the cruise line said that the majority of published calls to Princess Cays have shifted to Half Moon Cay.

Carnival Corporation is in the middle of a multi-million-dollar renovation and upgrade to Half Moon Cay. They recently opened a new side of the island for Carnival Cruise Line that includes a pier capable of accommodating two cruise ships at a time.

Holland America Line’s side, the original Half Moon Cay, is receiving a renovation and new features that are scheduled to be completed this fall. Cruise Fever will have a first look at Holland America’s renovated side in December, so stay tuned for that.

So, what are Carnival Corporation’s plans for Princess Cays? The company has not revealed future plans at this time.

Carnival has been investing heavily in private ports in The Bahamas. Last summer, Celebration Key opened on Grand Bahama Island and is visited, and will be visited, by the different cruise lines it owns, including Princess Cruises.

Cruise Fever will have all updates on Princess Cays when details are announced by Carnival Corporation and Princess Cruises.

Carnival Breeze Sustains Minor Hull Damage While Docking in Cozumel

A cruise passenger sailing on Carnival Jubilee shared some images of minor damage sustained by Carnival Breeze. The post said the damage was done during the docking process as the ship was pulling into port.

Carnival Breeze

The 3,690-passenger Carnival ship is currently on a 5-night Western Caribbean cruise that departed Galveston, Texas, on August 29, 2026, and is scheduled to return on September 3.

Its itinerary includes a call at Cozumel today (August 31) followed by Progreso on September 1.

Photos shared on the r/Cruise subreddit show scuff marks and slight indentation on a section of the ship’s lower hull near the red stripe and waterline.

Below is the social media post with three pictures of the ship during and after the incident.

The poster stated the pictures were taken from the Carnival Jubilee, which was also in port. Both ships were scheduled in Cozumel on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Usually when this kind of thing happens, the wind is a major factor. But weather conditions at the time were calm, with light winds of about 5–6 mph.

Strong winds do not appear to have been a factor in the incident.

The marks appear to be surface-level paint scrapes that are consistent with light contact during docking. No injuries or operational impacts have been reported, and Carnival Breeze is expected to continue its itinerary as planned.

Some passengers on board the ship said they didn’t even feel the contact, with one saying, “We are on the Breeze now we didn’t feel anything when it happened.”

As of Monday evening, no official statement from Carnival Cruise Line has been issued, and with such a minor scrape, there should be no impact on this sailing.
