Rogue Wave Rocks Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas on Return From Bermuda

Passengers sailing aboard Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas faced a dramatic moment when the ship encountered a rogue wave on its return leg from Bermuda, leaving dining rooms in disarray but thankfully causing no injuries.

The 78,340-gross-ton vessel departed Baltimore on 20th September for a 5-night roundtrip cruise to Bermuda.

As the ship sailed back toward Maryland, it was suddenly struck by a powerful wave that caused it to list heavily for several minutes.

Viral Video Captures the Chaos

A viral TikTok clip shows carts of plates sliding across the floor, glassware shattering, and crew members bracing themselves while trying to stabilize service equipment.

Diners clutched onto tables and chairs to avoid slipping.

“The ship hit some waves the wrong way and tipped for a few minutes. Everyone was holding on as not to slip,” the passenger explained, adding that liquor bottles smashed in the bar area, leaving the floor covered in glass.

Despite the frightening scene, no injuries were reported. Some guests stumbled or lost balance, and children were understandably frightened, but crew members were quick to cordon off slippery areas and reassure passengers.

“They are trained and experienced,” the passenger said. “They are more worried about safety rather than the mess.”

The video has already drawn over 6 million views, with a follow-up clip reaching 1.6 million, sparking thousands of reactions from curious cruisers and seasoned travellers alike.

Crew Response Earns Praise

Vision of the Seas, built in 1998, is among the oldest ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet, carrying more than 2,000 passengers.

While equipped with stabilizers to minimize movement, even modern cruise technology cannot fully counteract the force of a rogue wave.

These rare waves are often defined as twice the height of surrounding seas, making them difficult to predict.

Guests onboard praised the crew for keeping calm under pressure, with one social media user applauding a staff member’s “impressive catch” of a sliding cart. Another noted that while clean-up must have been overwhelming, “safety clearly came first.”

For some travellers, the motion was even part of the charm. One frequent cruiser commented, “The rocking felt like being rocked to sleep like a baby.”

What Exactly Is a Rogue Wave?

A rogue wave is a massive, unpredictable wall of water that appears suddenly and is much larger than the surrounding waves.

Scientists typically define them as waves at least twice the height of the significant wave height – essentially double the average of the largest waves in that part of the sea.

The largest officially recorded rogue wave was a 58-foot wall of water detected off the coast of British Columbia in 2020, though much larger waves – up to 120 feet – have been reported in the past.

Unlike tsunamis, which are caused by seismic activity and threaten coastlines, rogue waves are single, isolated phenomena at sea, often formed when fast-moving waves catch up with slower ones and combine.

While rogue waves can be powerful enough to damage or even sink smaller vessels, most modern cruise ships are built to withstand them.

They may cause listing, broken glass, or interior damage, but captains and crews are trained to minimize risk and keep passengers safe.

Cruise Continues as Scheduled

Though dining areas needed quick clean-up and safety checks, the incident lasted only minutes and the ship continued its journey without delay.

Vision of the Seas safely returned to Baltimore at the end of the voyage and has since embarked on its next sailing, a 9-night cruise to Canada and New England that departed on 25th September.

MSC Poesia to Receive Major Upgrades, Including MSC Yacht Club

MSC Cruises is giving an 17-year-old ship a massive makeover.  MSC Poesia was built in 2008 and was the very first MSC cruise ship I ever sailed on over 12 years ago.  It was a beautiful ship then but has been in need of some updates for a while now.

MSC Poesia cruise ship
MSC Poesia was built in 2008 and is a Musica-class vessel with MSC Cruises

MSC has revealed that the 3,605-max capacity ship will soon debut the cruise line’s award-winning MSC Yacht Club, along with a host of new dining, wellness, and entertainment options.  Then the vessel will look forward to voyages in Alaska, the Caribbean, and beyond.

The ship is currently scheduled for a dry dock in February of 2026, and the enhancements should be done before the May 2026 season in Alaska.

MSC Yacht Club Coming to Poesia

For the first time on MSC Poesia, passengers will be able to experience the MSC Yacht Club, the cruise line’s exclusive, all-inclusive “ship-within-a-ship” concept. This private sanctuary offers:

  • 63 new suites across five categories, including a lavish Royal Suite with a private whirlpool, expansive terrace, and panoramic ocean views.
  • A dedicated private sundeck featuring cabanas, whirlpools, and a grill & bar.
  • The Top Sail Lounge, a quiet deck retreat with floor-to-ceiling windows, live music, and premium drinks.
  • An exclusive MSC Yacht Club Restaurant, with special menus and that extra special service.

Each suite includes marble-finished bathrooms, embroidered towels, a Nespresso machine, a complimentary minibar, and 24-hour butler and concierge service.

New and Upgraded Dining

MSC Poesia’s dining variety is getting an upgrade as well.  It will include brand-new specialty restaurants:

  • Butcher’s Cut – a classic American-style steakhouse featuring premium cuts of beef.
  • Kaito Sushi Bar – reimagined with refined Far East–inspired décor and an elevated sushi selection.
  • All-Stars Sports Bar – a lively venue to watch games, enjoy snacks, and play bar-style games with friends.

Wellness and Fitness

The ship’s wellness and fitness centers are also receiving a modernized facelift:

  • MSC Aurea Spa – refreshed with an Ocean View Sauna, salt room, steam rooms, and an expanded relaxation space.
  • MSC Gym Powered by Technogym– offering new state-of-the-art equipment, a yoga room, and ocean-facing exercise spaces. Active guests can also enjoy a jogging track, basketball court, and tennis courts.

Upcoming Itineraries

Following the upgrades, MSC Poesia will embark on some new itineraries as well, including its inaugural Alaska season in summer 2026.

Seven-night itineraries from Seattle will sail through the Inside Passage with stops in Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Tracy Arm, and Juneau.

Other highlights include:

  • Winter 2026/2027 Caribbean & Central America cruises roundtrip from Miami, featuring ports in Jamaica, Colombia, Costa Rica, Aruba, Curaçao, and Belize.
  • Panama Canal Grand Voyages sailing between Seattle and Miami.

Guests who pre-pay gratuities will pay $20 per day, per guest. If you wait until you board the ship, the price will go up to $22 per day, per guest.

Disney Cruise Line Reroutes Ship Due to Tropical Storm

Disney Cruise Line has made a last-minute itinerary change for the 4,000-passenger Disney Wish cruise ship.  The Wish-class vessel is scheduled to depart from Port Canaveral, and the change has been made to keep the guests and crew safe from an incoming storm.

Disney Wish changes itinerary due to storm

The “Halloween on the High Seas” sailing on Disney Wish is being rerouted due to the developing tropical weather system, currently known as Invest 94L.

The system is forecasted to move into The Bahamas this weekend and is expected to bring tropical storm-force winds to the area.

Nassau Canceled, Castaway Cay Moved Up

The original three-night cruise was scheduled to visit Nassau, followed by a day at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. To avoid the bad weather, the cruise line has removed the Nassau stop entirely and moved the Castaway Cay visit up by one day.

Impacted passengers received notification from the cruise line just one day before their ship was set to leave port, giving the new schedule:

  • Friday, Sept. 26 – Depart Port Canaveral (unchanged)
  • Saturday, Sept. 27 – Visit Disney Castaway Cay (moved up from Sunday)
  • Sunday, Sept. 28 – Day at Sea (replaces Castaway Cay visit)
  • Monday, Sept. 29 – Return to Port Canaveral (unchanged)

The departure and return times to Port Canaveral remain unchanged.

What Guests Need to Know

  • Refunds for Nassau: Any pre-booked excursions booked through the cruise line in Nassau will be automatically canceled and fully refunded to the guest’s onboard account.
  • Castaway Cay Rescheduled: Reservations for excursions on Castaway Cay are being automatically adjusted from Sunday to the new Saturday port day.
  • Fun Still Onboard:  Disney Wish is currently sailing with its “Halloween on the High Seas” theme, featuring special activities like trick-or-treating, costume parties, themed decor, and meet-and-greets with characters. The added “Day at Sea” on Sunday will allow guests more time to enjoy the ship.

Weather Outlook

According to the National Hurricane Center, Invest 94L has a high chance of strengthening into a tropical depression or storm in the next few days. Cruise lines are monitoring the system and adjusting routes as needed, so pay attention to your email and other forms of communication if you have a sailing in this region of the world this week or next.

Southampton-cruise-terminal-with-car-drop-offs.jpg

7 of 17 Cars Stolen from Cruise Port Recovered, Port Promising Better Security

For most cruise passengers, there is no extra thought about the security of their vehicle while on a cruise at sea.  Port security and surveillance provide peace of mind that their car will be just as it was when they arrive back on land.

But after the recent theft of 17 cars from a UK cruise port, security will be ramping up to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Southampton cruise terminal with car drop offs

Southampton Cruise Parking Services has announced it will strengthen security measures following the theft of 17 vehicles from its First Avenue facility, as Cruise Fever reported earlier this week.

The auto thefts took place overnight between September 9 and 10, while many cruise passengers were away on their sailings. Police quickly launched an investigation, and as of this week, seven of the missing vehicles have been recovered.

Statement from the Port

In a statement released on September 26, Southampton Cruise Parking said it was “deeply concerned” by the incident and acknowledged the distress caused to cruisers.

According to news reports, a spokesperson for the company said:

“We are deeply concerned by the theft of vehicles from our Southampton car park and understand the distress this has caused to our customers returning from their holidays. Our priority from the moment this incident came to light has been to support those affected. We have ensured that all impacted customers were assisted in getting home or reunited with their vehicles as quickly as possible.”

“Since the incident, we have appointed specialist security consultants to strengthen our security arrangements and to provide additional reassurance to our customers. We are working in full cooperation with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary — this process has already helped recover stolen vehicles. We remain in close contact with the police as their investigation continues.”

Currently, large warning signs outside the lot state that the site is “under 24-hour surveillance” and that vehicles are parked “at owners’ sole risk.”

But despite these signs and measures, authorities believe the organized theft ring managed to bypass cameras and fencing.

Southampton cruise parking lot UK

Detective Constable Edward Smith, who is leading the investigation, said officers were treating the incident with urgency:

“We don’t underestimate the significant impact this has had on the victims, who have returned from their holidays to discover their car stolen. We continue to progress several lines of enquiry, including a full review of CCTV from the scene and surrounding areas. I am pleased to say that this work has already led to the recovery of six of the vehicles and those owners have been updated with the good news.”

Southampton is the UK’s busiest cruise port, serving ships from Cunard, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, and P&O Cruises. With thousands of passengers sailing out of each week, parking security is under an even greater spotlight after this incident.

Port officials said enhanced security measures will include additional patrols, improved surveillance, and input from outside consultants.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.

Virgin Voyages to Launch Three-Tier Fare Model With More Flexibility

Virgin Voyages is once again shaking up the cruise industry with a major change to how its sailings are booked.

Brilliant Lady

Beginning 7th October 2025, the adults-only cruise line will introduce VoyageFair Choices, a new three-tier fare system designed to provide guests with clearer pricing, more flexibility, and greater transparency.

The announcement follows a record year for the brand, which just launched its fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, and continues to see strong demand for its kid-free voyages.

“Travellers expect clarity and choice from airlines and hotels, and Virgin Voyages is the first to bring that same simplicity and pricing model to cruising,

“This isn’t about gimmicks or fine print. We’re making it easier to book a voyage with confidence while knowing that once you’re onboard, the experience is unmistakably Virgin: elevated and unforgettable.”

CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu

Three New Fare Tiers

The VoyageFair Choices system will apply to Sea Terrace and below cabins, with three levels of booking:

  • Base – The lowest-priced, non-refundable option. Includes new Basic WiFi (social media, messaging, light browsing for one device), a 15-day dining reservation window, and no changes to names, cabins, or dates.
  • Essential – Closest to Virgin’s current pricing. Includes Classic WiFi (browsing and audio calls for one device), a 45-day dining window, the ability to adjust dates with a Future Voyage Credit, and name changes for additional guests.
  • Premium – Adds the most flexibility and perks. Includes Premium WiFi (streaming on two devices), a 60-day dining reservation window, a daily Bar Tab drinks credit, and priority support for pre-voyage booking.

For RockStar and Mega RockStar suites, the primary change is earlier dining access, now 120 days before sailing.

Virgin Voyages Perks

All other luxury inclusions – such as Richard’s Rooftop access, priority boarding, and curated in-room perks – remain unchanged.

Gratuities No Longer Included

Another change is how gratuities are presented.

Previously bundled into fares, service charges will now appear as a separate line item at the time of booking.

Guests can pre-pay at $20 per person per night or settle onboard at $22 per person per night. Once covered, no additional tipping is expected anywhere onboard.

Virgin emphasized that this is about transparency – the total cost of a voyage will apparently remain the same, but guests will now see exactly how service charges are applied.

What Remains the Same

Despite the new booking model, Virgin Voyages’ hallmark “Always Included Luxury” continues.

My first Virgin Voyages cruise

Every fare still includes more than $1,000 worth of value, such as specialty dining from world-class chefs, unlimited group fitness, WiFi, soft drinks, and cutting-edge entertainment.

John Lovell, Virgin Voyages Board Member and Senior Advisor, called VoyageFair Choices a model “built for the modern traveller” and said it was a natural next step for a brand that has already redefined what it means to cruise.

“2025 has been a record year. Virgin Voyages is now firmly on the map and the undisputed No. 1 cruise line. VoyageFair Choices is about opening our doors even wider, giving more travelers the chance to experience the joy, connection and freedom of sailing with us.”

CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu

Tips To Try Something Different From Cruising This Year

Cruises have been incredibly popular since the first cruise ships were built. However, if you go on a cruise every year, you might be looking for something a little bit different, especially if you want more time to explore each destination or you want to stay in one place. Then, if you want to refresh your vacation spirit and transition out of annual cruises, here are some tips that can help you to get out of your comfort zone.

Go on a Tour

One of the great advantages of cruising is that it is relaxing, and many more people are now going on cruises. You do not have to worry about knowing where you are going or finding accommodation. If you want to stop feeling seasick all week long, but still want the ease that tours afford you, you should consider going on a tour.

Tours have a set itinerary to follow, along with partner hotels and guides who can look after you and ensure that you are happy throughout your stay. This is also a great way to see the best of a country and parts which you might not otherwise have ventured to. You should check out what they can do for you at kuodatravel.com, as they can take you to far-flung places such as Peru, all without any worries.

Book Far in Advance

You might always book your cruises at the last minute in order to get the best possible deals. However, when you are trying out staying on land for the first time, you might want to book further in advance. Booking in advance will give you time to prepare, will allow you to pick the best week for your trip, and you may also find that hotels and airlines have special deals throughout the year, allowing you to slice dollars off the total cost of your trip.

Go Somewhere In-Land

Having gone on many cruises in the past, you might have seen as much of the coast as you want to, stopping in ports every day or so to explore and let off steam. Staying in hotels or resorts gives you the chance to enjoy a completely different experience, and you can mix it up even further by visiting places that you would not be able to see on a cruise. By traveling to the center of the country in question and visiting massive towns, you will be able to see more of the destination that you have chosen and get a different perspective on it.

Try a Road Trip

If you miss the adventure and spirit of stopping in a new town each day, you should consider going on a road trip. Although this means that driving and getting from A to B is your responsibility, this road trip will give you the chance to emulate a cruise on land, perhaps without some of the luxuries. However, you can always pick fun rest stops in between.

Opt for Luxury

Much of the allure of cruises is the luxury that they can afford you as you escape from your daily responsibilities for a while. Why give that up now that you are on land? By looking for luxury accommodation or staying in a resort, you will be able to have your every need seen to, and ensure that you can sit back and take in the view, much like you would on a cruise ship.
