Singer Michael Bublé Talks About His Disney Cruise

When you think of a high-profile celebrity like Michael Bublé, you might imagine a luxurious private yacht or an exclusive, secluded resort. But the Canadian music icon recently proved that even the biggest stars can enjoy a classic family vacation at sea.

And a recent social media post revealed just what Bublé thought about the experience.

Disney Wonder sailing out of Vancouver, Canada

Although most of us are probably wondering how a high-profile celebrity can “blend in” and not be overcome by awe-struck cruisers who recognize the singer, Bublé was candid in his reflection of his recent cruise on the Disney cruise ship.

Bublé took to Instagram and his 4.2 million followers to rave about his family’s unforgettable Alaskan sailing on Disney Wonder, departing from his hometown of Vancouver.

The “Unreal” Cruise Was Not an Ad

Bublé, his wife Luisana Lopilato, and their four children sailed on the Disney Wonder, a cruise he described as “unreal.” In a series of Instagram posts, the singer clarified that his glowing review was not a paid promotion, but simply the result of an experience that far exceeded his expectations.

While not an ad, this is the best kind of publicity a company can get, when a high-profile celebrity endorses a product just because they love it.

“Every part of the experience exceeded our expectations,” Bublé wrote,  “I’m not exaggerating when I say, the staff, the food, and all of our fellow passengers totally rocked. If you ever have the opportunity to go with your family I highly recommend it. (Hilariously this is definitely not an Ad but it sure does sound like one reading this back) I just genuinely loved everything about it so much I had to give props where they were due. We’re already trying to figure out how to get back on that boat again!”

So, we’ll let it slide that he called the ship a boat, but you have to admit it’s hilarious that he even considered that people would think it was an ad.  And a quick look at the comments show that he was right in his assumption.

Bublé also shared photos of the family posing with beloved Disney characters, whale watching, and enjoying the ship.

Disney Wonder

Disney Wonder, which has been part of the Disney Cruise Line fleet since 1999, is a popular choice for family vacations. The ship’s Alaskan itineraries depart from Vancouver’s Canada Place cruise ship terminal, making it a convenient option for many North American travelers.

The ship will be moving to Australia in October for what will be the last season Down Under, according to recent reports from the cruise line.

Cruise Passengers Tragically Drown During Greek Island Visit

Two Vietnamese cruise passengers have drowned in a tragic accident at Sarakiniko Beach on the Greek island of Milos after being swept into the sea by powerful winds on Friday 8th August 2025.

Sarakiniko Beach on Milos

The victims, a married couple in their 50s, were part of a cruise ship group that had disembarked earlier in the day at the island’s main port of Adamas.

According to Greek authorities, the 64-year-old woman was attempting to take a photograph on the island’s exposed northern shoreline when she was caught off balance by a strong gust and fell into the water.

Her 65-year-old husband jumped in to try to save her, but both were quickly overwhelmed by the turbulent sea conditions.

Local winds were recorded at up to 50 miles per hour (80kmph), well into gale force strength. Sarakiniko’s smooth white volcanic cliffs and lack of vegetation leave it highly exposed to the elements, and its beauty belies the hazards posed by sudden weather changes.

The couple’s bodies were later recovered by the Greek coastguard with the assistance of private boats and divers.

They were taken to a local health centre, where they were pronounced dead. The Vietnamese embassy in Greece confirmed the fatalities the following day, stating it was in contact with the victims’ families and working with Greek authorities and the travel company involved to assist with arrangements.

The embassy also urged Vietnamese nationals visiting Greece to stay away from cliff edges and avoid entering the sea during high winds.

Cruise Line Unofficially Named as Celestyal Cruises

Although the couple’s cruise ship has not been officially named, Celestyal Cruises’ Celestyal Journey was the only vessel in port at Milos on the day of the accident.

Celestyal Journey

The 55,800-gross-ton ship, formerly Holland America Line’s Ryndam, is homeported from Piraeus (Athens) and was nearing the end of a seven-night Greek Isles itinerary.

Milos was her final port call before returning to Athens, and she has since departed on her next voyage.

The tragedy occurred as much of southern Greece faced severe weather. The country’s civil protection ministry issued alerts for wind speeds of up to 88kmph across the Aegean and Crete, along with warnings of a very high risk of wind-driven wildfires.

Ferry services between Athens and the Cyclades were heavily disrupted, with many sailings cancelled or delayed and travellers stranded at ports in Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio.

Giorgos Vallis, president of the Panhellenic Association of Yacht Crews, told state broadcaster ERT that authorities should consider restricting access to certain beaches during extreme weather to prevent accidents.

“When such phenomena occur, port authorities should close off the area to prevent people from taking photos or jumping from the rocks into the sea,”

While cruise lines take extensive precautions to safeguard passengers, accidents ashore can still occur, particularly in scenic but exposed destinations such as Sarakiniko Beach.

Visitors are urged to exercise caution in strong winds, keep well clear of cliff edges, and remain aware of changing weather conditions.

Carnival Cruise Line Releases Shorter Cruises on Excel Class Ships

Carnival Cruise Line has released their first short cruises on their largest class of ships, the Excel class.

Carnival's Mardi Gras cruise ship at Celebration Key

Mardi Gras, Carnival’s first Excel class ship, will sail four- and five-night cruises to The Bahamas from Port Canaveral starting on May 22, 2027.

The four-day cruises will visit Celebration Key and RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay. The five-night sailings will add a port stop in Nassau.  These newly announced cruises are now open for bookings.

The debut of shorter cruises on Mardi Gras will coincide with Carnival Festivale joining the fleet and sailing from Port Canaveral.

In addition, Carnival announced that Carnival Celebration will continue to sail from PortMiami, the Cruise Capital of the World, through at least April 2028.

Cruises to the Eastern Caribbean on Carnival Celebration will visit a variety of ports including Celebration Key, Amber Cove, Grand Turk, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, San Juan, RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay and Nassau.

Sailings to the Western Caribbean on Carnival Celebration will visit Celebration Key, Cozumel and Isla Tropicale (formerly Mahogany Bay).

Celebration Key, Carnival's new port in The Bahamas

Carnival is in the middle of releasing their deployment schedule for 2027-2028. They stated that a variety of cruise options will be unveiled over the coming months.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, gave the following statement about these new cruises:

“With a new Excel class ship on its way to Port Canaveral in 2027, we’re excited to offer more ways to experience these fabulous ships our guests love, with new shorter itineraries on Mardi Gras for the first time.

“Mardi Gras introduced a number of new entertainment and dining options along with the first roller coaster at sea, so it’s fitting that this ship will take on another first for us as the largest-ever to sail short cruises.

“This will give our guests more variety as they choose their next family vacation – whether that’s a short getaway on Mardi Gras from Port Canaveral or a week-long sailing on her beautiful sister Carnival Celebration from Miami.”

Carnival Cruise Line has two more Excel class ships under construction/on order. Carnival Festivale will join the fleet in the spring of 2027 with Carnival Tropicale joining a year later in 2028.

What Really Happens If a Hurricane Hits During Your Cruise

The Caribbean may be a dream cruise destination, but it’s also home to some of the world’s fiercest hurricanes.

So what if your cruise is set to sail right where a storm is brewing? Can cruise ships handle hurricanes? And what happens if your trip gets cancelled altogether?

Caribbean hurricane

I learned the hard way when my Royal Caribbean cruise on Navigator of the Seas was called off because of Hurricane Dorian. Since then, I’ve followed cruise line policies, government advice, and expert weather updates to create this guide – so you’ll know exactly what to expect if a hurricane threatens your cruise.

Cruise Ships Avoid Hurricanes at All Costs

The most important thing for anyone to consider during a hurricane is, undoubtedly, safety. Many people wonder if a cruise ship can withstand being hit by a hurricane. But honestly, it is extremely unlikely that that would ever happen.

The tactic taken by cruise ships during a hurricane is to avoid the hurricane by sailing out of its path.

Caribbean beach before hurricane

In fact, a cruise ship is one of the safest places to be during a hurricane, as it can easily sail into safety. According to Unidata, the average forward speed of a hurricane is 15-20mph.

The average speed of a cruise ship is 23 mph, with maximum speeds reaching 34 mph. Weather forecasters have knowledge of where a hurricane is heading up to a week before it gets there. This gives cruise ships ample time to move out of the path and into calmer waters.

So, if you’re wondering what cruise ships do in hurricanes, the answer is pretty straightforward – they get out of the way!

Of course, it’s not always possible to avoid a storm completely. Here are some stories from cruise ship guests during the worst storms at sea. So you can understand what to expect if the worst happens and your ship is battered by large waves.

Where to Find the Latest Updates

If your cruise holiday is affected by a hurricane, your cruise line will give you information about what to do and will send you details of their hurricane policy.

If you’re already on board when the news comes in of a hurricane, the captain will advise passengers over the public address system, via written correspondence in your stateroom and via your stateroom television. If you have any questions, you should head to the guest services desk and ask.

If you haven’t yet sailed when a hurricane is announced, you will be advised by email if your cruise is affected, although you may also be able to gather information from other sources to help you with your planning.

Here’s an example of an email that I received from Royal Caribbean before my cancelled cruise…

Email from Royal Caribbean about Hurricane Dorian

Twitter is an excellent resource for getting the latest information about hurricanes from trusted sources.

As well as following what your cruise line is advising, you can also follow meteorologists, such as Craig Setzer, who is the chief meteorologist for Royal Caribbean, as well as accounts such as the National Hurricane Center.

Flights and other modes of transport are also affected by hurricanes. However, where a cruise itinerary may be rescheduled days in advance, the time frame for cancelling flights is often much shorter.

Hurricanes can be unpredictable, and flights may show as scheduled until it is absolutely certain that they need to be cancelled.

Your Cruise Itinerary May Be Changed

Cruises are very rarely cancelled due to hurricanes, but they can have itinerary changes and could be made shorter or longer in duration. Hurricane season for cruises can involve a lot of changes to planned itineraries.

In most cases, if a cruise is set to sail near a hurricane, it will simply be diverted to visit different ports of call, or you may skip a port altogether and have an extra sea day.

cruise ships in port

If the hurricane is due to hit a departure port, the port will close, and cruise ships will stay away from the port until it is safe to dock. This means that passengers on the ship will stay on board for longer, usually having an extra one, two or three nights on board.

However, this means that the cruise is then delayed for the next passengers, meaning that their cruise will be shortened by the same length of time.

If cruises are delayed or extended before departure, passengers should be given the option to cancel their cruise.

What to Do if You’re Affected

Before doing anything, you should wait for an email from your cruise line advising you of how your cruise is affected, what they are offering and what they recommend you do.

I was advised that my cruise on Navigator of the Seas would be delayed and shortened from a four-night sailing to a two-night sailing. I was given the option of continuing with the cruise or cancelling.

If you have booked your cruise directly with the cruise line, you should contact them to let them know how you wish to proceed. You don’t need to rush to do this. If you don’t respond and don’t arrive at the port, you will likely be marked as a no-show and treated the same as a cancellation.

If you have booked your cruise with a travel agent, call them and they will sort everything out for you.

call your travel agent

I’m really glad that I booked my cruise with a travel agent. The travel agent cancelled my cruise, my flights and my hotel booking on my behalf. Because I booked it as a package holiday, the ATOL scheme in the UK meant that I would not lose any money on the flights or hotel that I had booked.

If you book your cruise, flights and hotel independently, you would not necessarily be entitled to a refund on all three elements and would have to call each company yourself.

You Can Claim Compensation

Each cruise line has a hurricane policy, and they will advise passengers about any compensation due.

In my case, the cancellation of my cruise meant that Royal Caribbean gave me a credit to use towards a future cruise in the next 12 months. They also refunded my drinks package, wifi and shore excursions.

For cruises that are shortened, passengers are refunded pro rata for the days that they miss. They may also be given future cruise credit as a gesture of goodwill.

Suggested read: 15 Ways To Use Your Royal Caribbean Onboard Credit Like A Pro

For Royal Caribbean cruises which are extended, no charge is made, and extras such as drinks packages, dining packages or WiFi packages will also be extended free of charge. This policy may vary by the cruise line.

extended drinks package

For itinerary changes such as alternative ports or missed ports, no compensation is normally offered, as the cruise line reserves the right to change itineraries as needed.

Refunds

The refund policy for hurricanes is down to each cruise line. Cruise lines like Royal Caribbean and Carnival usually offer refunds in the form of future cruise credit only. This can take around three weeks to be processed, but it is valid for up to a year after the issue.

You can’t look up the Royal Caribbean hurricane policy or the Carnival cruise hurricane policy online, as they aren’t published anywhere. Instead, you must wait for an email from the cruise line with details of your refund.

My Advice for Cruising in Hurricane Season

Firstly, it’s important to know when hurricane season is for cruises. Hurricane season in the Caribbean officially runs from 1st June to 30th November, with the most hurricanes happening in August and September. Even though I had to cancel my cruise due to Hurricane Dorian, it would not put me off choosing to cruise in hurricane season again.

There are some great deals to be had on cruises at this time of year, and, as it coincides with school summer holidays in the UK, it is generally a convenient time for families to cruise in the Caribbean.

Although there is certainly the possibility for disruption, the vast majority of cruises during hurricane season won’t be affected by any more than a few short showers.

Hurricane in Key West

1. Be Flexible

If you’re considering cruising in hurricane season, it’s important to be flexible. If you’re planning a cruise for a special occasion such as a wedding, honeymoon, anniversary, or you have your heart set on visiting a certain port, then you should probably consider sailing at a different time of year.

However, if you’re happy to accept itinerary changes and want great value for money, then a cruise in hurricane season is certainly worth considering.

2. Get Good Travel Insurance

It’s always advisable to take out travel insurance for any cruise, but if you plan to cruise during hurricane season, it’s very important that you check your policy carefully.

Some travel insurance doesn’t cover cruises at all, so the first thing to check is that your policy includes ‘cruise cover’. Then you’ll want to check that hurricanes and other natural disasters are not excluded.

Next, take a look at how much you’re covered for and what the excess is. Cruises can be expensive, and some cheaper travel insurance policies have a relatively low limit on how much will be covered.

Some travel insurance policies offer cover for missed ports, but check this carefully. If you’re only offered £25 per missed port, but your excess is £100, then this isn’t actually worth anything.

Finally, you must get your travel insurance as soon as you book your cruise (or a year before you sail, whichever is sooner). If you wait until the last minute to buy your insurance and a hurricane is named before you buy it, you won’t be covered.

My Recommendation

My recommendation for cruise insurance depends on where you live.

These are trusted price comparison sites that will quickly get you lots of quotes to match your exact needs.

3. Book With a Travel Agent

I am so glad that I booked my cruise with a good travel agent. They sorted everything out for me and gave me a full refund on my hotel and flights as well as my cruise. If I had booked everything myself and my cruise was cancelled but flights weren’t, I would have had to pay for the flights or try to claim on travel insurance.

travel agent booking a cruise

Final Word

I hope this article has helped anyone whose cruise has been affected by a hurricane or who is concerned about cruising in hurricane season. This is just my experience of having a cruise booked with Royal Caribbean during Hurricane Dorian. Other cruise lines and other hurricanes may be slightly different.

Have you ever taken a cruise that was affected by a hurricane? Let me know, in the comments below, what your experiences were. And if you have any questions, please ask, and if I don’t know, I’ll do my best to find the answers.

List of Disney Cruise Ships: Newest to Oldest

Disney Cruise Line currently has six cruise ships in their fleet, offering magical vacations to the most popular destinations on earth including the Caribbean, Bahamas, Europe, Hawaii, and Alaska.

The cruise line has several new ships on the way. Disney Destiny, a Wish-class ship, is set to debut in November 2025, sailing from Florida. Disney Adventure, a much larger Global-class ship, will also arrive in December 2025, and will be homeported in Singapore.

Disney also have a new class of ships on order that will be smaller and just over 100,000 gross tons in size.

Here is a list of every Disney cruise ship from newest to oldest.  This list will be updated as Disney expands their fleet over the next few years.

Disney Treasure

Disney Treasure is the second of the Wish-class vessels. It entered service in 2024 and is 144,000 gross tons and can carry up to 4,000 passengers. The Grand Hall is inspired by the story of Aladdin and the golden palace of Agrabah. The stern characters are Peter Pan and Captain Hook. The ship’s maiden voyage was in December 2024.

Disney Wish

Disney Wish is the first of a new class of three vessels.  Disney Wish entered service in 2022 and is the largest ship in Disney’s fleet at 144,000 gross tons.  The ship can carry 4,000 passengers in a little over 1,250 cabins. The bow, atrium, and aft characters are Captain Minnie, Cinderella, and Rapunzel and Pascal.

Disney Fantasy

Disney Fantasy is the second Dream class ship from Disney Cruise Line and entered service in 2012.  The 129,690 gross ton cruise ship can carry up to 4,000 guests. The bow, atrium, and aft characters are Sorcerer Mickey, Mademoiselle Minnie, Dumbo and Timothy Q. Mouse.

Disney Dream

Disney’s Future

Disney Cruise Line currently has six more cruise ships that will be added to their fleet over the next few years. Two of the cruise ships will be sister ships to Disney Wish. Disney Destiny will debut in 2025 and a currently unnamed vessel in 2027.

Also in in 2025, Disney Cruise Line will be adding their largest cruise ship to their fleet.  The cruise line purchased the massive 208,000 gross ton Global Dream that was 70% completed after the parent company went bankrupt. They are converting it over to Disney Adventure and the ship will sail three- and four-night cruises from Singapore.

Also on order is a new class of smaller cruise ships. Disney has three 105,000 gross ton ships on order that will debut in 2029, 2030 and 2031.

Disney Cruise Line Leaving Australia After Three Seasons

After months of speculation, Disney Cruise Line has officially confirmed it’s leaving the Australian and New Zealand markets after the 2025-2026 cruise season. The decision comes after three seasons of sailing Down Under.

Disney Wonder Melbourne Australia

In an announcement on social media for the brand’s Australian and New Zealand side of operations, Disney Cruise Line posted a picture with the caption, “A fond farewell for now.  Join us this last season in Australia and New Zealand.”

While many fans expressed their disappointment or need to book a cruise before the ship leaves the region, some expressed optimism in the cruise line’s return.

“What sad news to wake up to! It’s not goodbye it’s see ya real soon. I have my fingers crossed for a new ship in the future,” said one Disney fan.

The Ship and Its New Home

The ship currently scheduled to sail out of Syndey and Melbourne later this year, Disney Wonder, will be redeployed after its final sailing in Australia in February 2026.

While an official new home port has not been announced by Disney, it’s widely expected that Disney Wonder will return to North America, though no official word has been given yet.

However, the schedule for summer 2026 includes sailings to Alaska from Vancouver, Canada.  The furthest out a cruise can be booked on Disney Wonder is a September 21, 2026 sailing out of Vancouver.

With the launch of its newest and largest ship slotted for later in 2025, Disney Adventure, the cruise line’s focus is shifting to the Asia-Pacific region. This new vessel, which can carry 6,000 passengers and 2,111 crew, will be homeported in Singapore, offering year-round cruises.

The maiden voyage for Disney Adventure is scheduled for December 15, 2026 and will be a 3-day sailing from Singapore with no port stops.

Other Recent Cruise Changes in Australia

The Australian cruise market is facing all kinds of changes recently, with P&O Cruises Australia recently being absorbed by its parent company, Carnival Corporation.

The popular Australian brand, which had a long history in the region, officially ceased its own operations in early 2025. Its two remaining ships, the former Pacific Adventure and Pacific Encounter, were rebranded as Carnival Adventure and Carnival Encounter.

They continue to offer cruises from their new homeports of Sydney and Brisbane, now sailing under the new brand.

Cunard’s Newest Ship Introduces Entry Fee for Certain Shows

Cunard Line has begun charging for certain live performances on its newest cruise ship, Queen Anne, which just entered service last year.

The fees, as mentioned on the cruise line’s website, apply to three specific shows held in the ship’s Bright Lights Society venue.  This space is a smaller and a more intimate setting that has a much different feel and vibe from the main theater area.

Cunard's Queen Anne
ID 326438317 | Cruise © Peter Titmuss | Dreamstime.com

The new fee was introduced in late May 2025, several months after the ship’s maiden voyage, when the shows were initially offered for free. The new tiered pricing structure is as follows:

  • Fizz and Noir performances carry an entry charge of $20 per person. This fee includes a glass of champagne, a souvenir program, and the service charge.
  • The Bitter Sweet Symphony show is priced at $46 per person, which includes three cocktails and the service charge.

Reservations for these shows can be made on the Cunard My Voyage app or once on board the ship. The company has also introduced a cancelation policy, with a no-show or late-cancellation fee of $5 for Fizz and Noir, and $15 for Bitter Sweet Symphony.

A la Cart Pricing

These new pricing changes have so far been met with mixed reactions online, but the a la cart approach to cruise vacations is not something new.  Other cruise lines have offered this custom pricing approach to allow cruisers to only pay for shows and services that actually use or enjoy.

Most cruise lines still offer large-scale production shows at no extra charge, and Cunard is not changing that with this new fee, as the main dining room shows are still included in the cruise fare.

The main productions in Queen Anne’s Royal Court Theatre remain complimentary.
