Cruise Ship Launches Lifeboat To Rescue Refugees (Though Some Refused To Board)

Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Paradise proved that seafaring heroism is alive and well this week after rescuing five refugees from a small, overcrowded raft drifting off the coast of Cuba.

Carnival Paradise Migrant Rescue

The dramatic rescue occurred on 14th May 2025, as the ship sailed from Key West to Montego Bay, Jamaica, during a 6-night Western Caribbean voyage.

Guests onboard the ship captured video of the lifeboat being launched from the ship, and travelling out to meet the stranded boat.

While navigating south of Cabo San Antonio, Cuba, crew members aboard the 2,124-guest Carnival Paradise spotted a makeshift vessel in distress, with around 15 people aboard.

The overcrowded raft appeared unstable and unfit for continued travel, prompting the ship’s bridge team to respond immediately.

Carnival’s crew deployed one of the ship’s lifeboats and managed to rescue five individuals who accepted assistance.

According to a statement from Carnival Cruise Line, the other occupants declined to board the ship but were given essential supplies, including food, water, and fuel.

“The Carnival Paradise team rescued five people south of Cabo San Antonio, Cuba on Wednesday after the ship’s officers spotted a small boat in distress,

“The five people who requested rescue were part of a larger group on board the small boat. The other occupants did not wish to join the ship but were given food and water.”

Carnival statement

The ship promptly alerted the United States Coast Guard, which will coordinate the transfer of the rescued individuals at a later point in the itinerary.

No Delay to Itinerary, Standard Protocol Followed

As per maritime law and Carnival’s own longstanding protocol, the rescued individuals were provided with food, water, medical attention, and temporary lodging.

Contrary to occasional misconceptions, they do not continue the cruise as guests.

The rescued group is expected to be transferred either during a port call or upon the ship’s return to Tampa, Florida, on 18th May 2025.

Cruise tracking data confirms that Carnival Paradise arrived on schedule in Montego Bay on 15th May and George Town, Grand Cayman, on 16th May before concluding the voyage.

This is not the first time Carnival Paradise has come to the rescue at sea. The ship has earned a reputation for doing the right thing in crisis situations – particularly in waters near Cuba, where such rescues have become more frequent in recent years.

  • 2019: The ship made headlines for assisting a sailor north of Cozumel whose boat was sinking.
  • July 2022: Crew rescued a group of 20 refugees in a damaged rowboat near Cuba.
  • April 2024: 27 Cuban nationals were rescued en route to Roatán, Honduras, and brought safely aboard without disrupting the cruise itinerary.

Each incident has followed similar patterns of swift action, legal compliance, and compassion – with Carnival consistently liaising with relevant authorities for safe transfer and repatriation.

Despite the drama at sea, Carnival Paradise has continued her itinerary without delay. Guests onboard have praised the crew for their quick response and professionalism, reflecting Carnival Cruise Line’s commitment to safety and maritime duty.

This latest act of rescue not only underscores the responsibility cruise lines bear on the high seas, but also the ongoing challenges facing migrants in the Caribbean. For Carnival Paradise, however, stepping in to save lives is simply part of the voyage.

What’s Hot, What’s Hype, And What’s Actually Fun

If you’re in Canada and you’ve ever fallen into a three-hour black hole trying to find New Casino Slots online, you’re not alone. The internet is packed with promises of “brand-new gameplay mechanics” and “revolutionary bonus rounds,” only for you to land on a game that looks like it time-traveled straight out of 2006. But the good news? The Canadian market has finally started catching up, and new slot titles are actually getting, dare we say… interesting.

Whether you’re a reel junkie or just looking to play new slots online on your coffee break, this guide is your fast pass through the fluff. And yes, there’s even a platform like SlotShake’s new slots collection if you want the TL;DR version.

Why New Slots Are Taking Over the Canadian Scene

Casino Gambling Gaming - SlotsCasino Gambling Gaming - Slots
Casino Gambling Gaming – Slots

Let’s start with the obvious: old slots are predictable. You spin, you lose, you spin again, maybe win $1.25, then wonder where your evening went. But new slots? They’re bringing actual excitement back to the game.

We’re talking about features like:

  • Avalanche reels that blow up winning combinations.
  • Dynamic bonus rounds that feel like boss fights.
  • Slot storylines (yes, actual stories).
  • Buy-in bonuses and instant access to high-volatility modes.

Canada’s iGaming market is booming, and developers are now laser-focused on this audience. That means more localized content, CAD-friendly interfaces, and even slots with snowy themes and maple syrup Easter eggs (we’re half-kidding… mostly).

Old vs. New: The Feature Face-Off

To give you a better idea of how today’s new slots casino titles compare with older classics, here’s a quick breakdown.

Below is a side-by-side table comparing features found in traditional slots and the hottest new slot releases.

Feature Classic Slots New Slots (2024+)
Reels & Rows 3×3 or 5×3 6×6, grid-style, Megaways™
Bonus Games Free spins only Bonus wheels, mini-games, level-ups
Graphics & Sound Basic, static Animated, immersive, cinematic
Return to Player (RTP) 92%–95% 96%–98.5%
Mobile Optimization Meh Full responsive or app-native

As you can see, new slots online offer not just flashier visuals but better mechanics and winning potential.

Top Trends in New Slots Right Now

You don’t have to be a slot nerd (though we welcome them) to appreciate the trends taking over the market. Here’s what developers and casinos alike are pushing hard in 2024:

  • 🎰 Megaways™ Engines – More ways to win than you can count without a calculator.
  • 🔄 Respins + Sticky Wilds – Extra spins with extra cling.
  • 🏆 Feature Buys – Skip the grind and jump straight to the bonus.
  • 📱 Mobile-First Design – Optimized for thumbs, not clicks.
  • 🧩 Themed Storylines – Fantasy, sci-fi, mythology, and even branded TV slots.

These aren’t just gimmicks. They’re reshaping how players play new slots online by merging classic slot gameplay with video game mechanics.

How to Find the Best New Slots in Canada (Without Losing Your Mind)

With hundreds of titles dropping each month, finding quality new slots in the Canadian space can feel like scrolling through 200 Netflix shows and still watching The Office. So, how do you filter the winners from the digital dumpster fires?

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you find new slots without wasting your time (or money).

How to Spot a Good New Slot

  1. Check the RTP – If it’s under 96%, you’re probably better off elsewhere.
  2. See Who Made It – Names like NetEnt, Hacksaw, and Pragmatic are gold.
  3. Scan for Features – No bonus round? Move on.
  4. Look for Demo Mode – Try before you cry.
  5. Find Trusted Platforms – Like the new slots section on SlotShake. Just saying.

Follow these tips and you’ll cut through the noise and actually enjoy the experience of discovering new games.

Where to Play New Slots Online in Canada

So, where should you be spinning these digital masterpieces? Plenty of online casinos are trying to become the go-to for new slots casino offerings—but only a few really deliver.

Some platforms drop new releases weekly, others wait until a “content update” (aka whenever they remember). That’s why it pays to play somewhere that’s proactive about launching the latest games. Sites like SlotShake have dedicated new slot pages and often highlight games the day they drop, making it easier to play new slots online without doing a scavenger hunt across 15 different menus.

Must-Play New Slots in 2024 (So Far)

Below is a quick-hit list of standout new slots that have made waves in Canada this year. These games aren’t just pretty—they’re fun, creative, and full of bonus chaos.

  • 🧠 Mental (Nolimit City) – Creepy, high-volatility thriller with twisted bonus mechanics.
  • 🛡️ Power of Thor Megaways (Pragmatic) – Norse mythology meets hammer-smashing win potential.
  • 🔥 Toshi Video Club (Hacksaw Gaming) – Retro Japanese vibes with innovative cluster wins.
  • 🎉 Candy Blitz (Play’n GO) – Sugar-coated chaos with chain-reaction reels.
  • 🐺 Beast Mode (Relax Gaming) – Urban jungle theme with feature-packed gameplay.

If these titles don’t get your adrenaline going, you might need to check your pulse.

Final Thoughts: Are New Slots Worth the Hype?

In a word: yes. New slots online are fast becoming the heart of Canada’s digital casino scene, and for good reason. They look better, pay better, and frankly, play better than the stale three-reelers clogging up your grandma’s favorite casino app.

Whether you’re just dipping your toes into new slots casino waters or you’re a seasoned player looking for fresh thrills, the market in 2024 has never been more exciting—or more competitive. With platforms like SlotShake making it easier than ever to discover and play new slots online, there’s really no excuse for settling for boring spins.

FAQs: New Slots in Canada

What makes a slot “new”?

Typically, it’s a game released in the past 3–6 months with updated mechanics, fresh themes, and cutting-edge features.

Can I play new slots online for free?

Yes, many platforms offer demo versions so you can try before betting real money.

Are new slots better than older ones?

They usually offer higher RTPs, modern features, and are optimized for mobile and faster gameplay.

Where’s the best place to play new slots online in Canada?

Check out sites that update their slot library regularly, like SlotShake’s new slots section, for the latest releases.

Royal Caribbean Reveals Its Boldest Private Island Yet

Royal Caribbean is once again reshaping the future of cruise vacations with the reveal of its newest private island destination, Perfect Day Mexico, launching in autumn 2027.

Perfect Day Mexico

Located on Mexico’s Caribbean coast near Mahahual, this 200-acre tropical escape promises world-first water attractions, expansive beach zones, and immersive cultural experiences.

Described as the brand’s “boldest yet,” Perfect Day Mexico will be divided into seven unique neighbourhoods tailored to every kind of traveller – from adrenaline junkies and partygoers to families and those looking for sun-soaked relaxation.

Loco Waterpark: Record-Breaking Thrills Await

Topping the list of headline attractions is Loco Waterpark, home to more than 30 waterslides spread across five slide towers. This includes Jaguar’s Peak, the tallest waterslide tower in the Americas at more than 170 feet.

Perfect Day Mexico - Jaguar's Peak tower

Here, guests can experience the world’s longest coaster-style waterslide and the highest family raft ride designed for up to six riders.

Another highlight is the world’s first sombrero slide, inspired by Mexico’s iconic wide-brimmed hat. Designed as a bowl slide, it offers a distinctly local flair to the waterpark experience.

Longest Lazy River on Earth and Endless Pools

In Splash Cove, cruisers of all ages can float down the longest lazy river in the world, a float lasting nearly an hour with optional “crazy” sections featuring rapids and waves.

At the centre lies a massive 100,000-square-foot pool – just one of more than 10 pools across the island, together spanning the size of four football fields.

Getting around Perfect Day Mexico

Younger guests will enjoy the largest Splashaway Bay yet, complete with child-sized slides and interactive features. New Splashaway Cabanas nearby offer families a shaded retreat close to the action.

Adults-Only and Premium Beach Retreats

Guests aged 18 and up can head to El Hideaway, an adults-only zone with a swim-up bar, live DJs, and the all-new Ultimate Party Cabana, complete with its own pool and bartender.

For a more upscale beach day, Costa Beach Club offers infinity pools, premium dining, and luxury cabanas with dedicated attendants.

Those looking to relax in a more natural setting can unwind along Chill Beach North and South, nearly two miles of white-sand shoreline with complimentary loungers, umbrellas and towels.

Food, Culture, and Celebrations at Fiesta Plaza

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by the vibrant Fiesta Plaza, where live mariachi music and the world’s largest sombrero – topping the Tipsy Sombrero bar – set the tone.

Across the island, 12 eateries and 24 bars will serve up regional dishes and cocktails, with nearly all food options included in the cruise fare. Art installations and market-style shopping by local artisans complete the cultural immersion.

Itineraries and Expansion Plans

When it opens in autumn 2027, Perfect Day Mexico will feature on Western Caribbean cruises departing from Galveston, New Orleans, and multiple Florida ports. These new itineraries will be available to book later this year.

Royal Caribbean says this expansion reflects its long-term ambition to reinvent cruise travel both onboard and ashore.

“Perfect Day Mexico is bigger and bolder than anything we have done to date… We can’t wait to welcome adventurers from around the world for an experience only we can offer.”

Royal Caribbean CEO Michael Bayley

More Beach Escapes on the Horizon

Perfect Day Mexico is just one piece of a growing portfolio of exclusive destinations under Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate Destination banner.

Royal Caribbean Ultimate Destinations

The cruise line is also developing several Royal Beach Clubs and other private island getaways:

  • Royal Beach Club Paradise Island (The Bahamas) – Opening December 2025 near Nassau, this club features three island-style restaurants, The Floating Flamingo swim-up bar, and an all-inclusive experience.
  • Royal Beach Club Cozumel (Mexico) – Due to open in 2026, this club will include pools, cabanas, snorkelling, kayaking, tequila tastings, and cooking classes.
  • Lelepa (Vanuatu) – Launching in early 2027, this South Pacific escape will offer a locally inspired island retreat for Australian cruisers.

By 2027, the cruise line expects 90% of its Caribbean travellers to visit either Perfect Day at CocoCay or Perfect Day Mexico, with new itineraries from Gulf ports including both Perfect Day Mexico and Royal Beach Club Cozumel.

A Sustainable Vision

Royal Caribbean is working closely with the Mexican government and Mahahual community to develop Perfect Day Mexico as a sustainable, long-term tourism destination.

The port will remain open during all construction phases, and a new welcome centre will help connect guests with local landmarks and excursions.

The initiative aligns with Royal Caribbean Group’s SEA the Future programme, focused on sustainability, community investment, and responsible tourism.

As the cruise giant continues to redefine what “the perfect day” looks like, Perfect Day Mexico stands to become one of the most anticipated and immersive private island destinations in modern cruising.

Cruise Passengers Claim They Got “Night Sweats” from Hot Cabin, Want 60 Degree Temps

Did you know that the ventilation system on a cruise ship is the second biggest drain on fuel?  It’s second only to the power required to actually move the ship.  So, it’s no small feat to try to get the temperature where most passengers are comfortable.

A recent update from Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador highlighted a story in which a couple requested unrealistic temperatures that are unlikely to be reached on any ship.

Carnival Cruise Line Cabins and balconies on Celebration

A common cruise passenger concern—cabin air conditioning—recently landed in the inbox of Carnival’s John Heald. A couple, who prefer a very cold environment, recently reported experiencing “night sweats” during their cruise on Carnival Jubilee, claiming their cabin’s 69-degree Fahrenheit temperature was “far too hot.”

The guests, who typically keep their home between 60 and 65 degrees, expressed their disappointment with the ship’s temperature.  (60 degrees Fahrenheit is about 15.5 Celsius)

Their message to Heald began,

“I’m sure you will get me John because like me and my hubby we are all fatties, we need the air conditioning cold.”

They continued, sharing their experience on Carnival Jubilee: “It was not cold enough. We both spent the cruise with night sweats. The workers…checked our cabin temperature and it was 69°. We run our house at between 60 and 65; our cabin at 69 was far too hot.”

They stated they would not book another sailing unless a colder cabin could be guaranteed.

John Heald, acknowledging his own preference for cooler temperatures and jokingly referring to himself as a “big old boy,” quickly addressed the request for a 60-degree cabin.

“60°? Never going to happen,” Heald stated emphatically during his Facebook Live video.

Why Cruise Ships Feel Warmer on Embarkation Days

Heald then provided a broader explanation of ship temperatures, particularly as the busy summer cruising season gets closer. He noted that public spaces might feel “a little warm” at times, and new cruisers sometimes “panic a little bit on embarkation day,” finding their cabin not as cold as desired.

He clarified that cabin attendants “always have the air conditioning set to the lowest” before guests even enter their rooms. He explained that there are specific reasons for the temporary warmth often felt on embarkation day.

“First of all, a lot of the ships are running off the shore side power,” Heald explained. Additionally, he noted that various “gateways that are open with the hot air coming in,” including the area where luggage and supplies are loaded, contribute to the heat. “Those big doors are open and the heat is coming in,” he said.

However, Heald assured viewers that “once those doors are closed, once the ship is sailing, it is of course better and things will cool down.”

He believes “most people are absolutely fine with the cabin temperatures” once the ship is underway. He also reminded guests that in public areas, doors are constantly opening and closing, allowing humidity to enter and occasionally making spaces feel warmer.

What to Do If Your Cabin is Too Warm

A common request from Heald is for Carnival guests to make their complaints known to crew members during the cruise and not wait until the end to complain.  After all, at that point nothing can be done to fix the problem.

Heald offered this advice for passengers who face temperature issues in their cabin:

“Please I beg you if you have a problem if you’re too hot in your cabin please don’t write to me afterwards and say it was too hot. Speak to somebody, call the guest services desk, tell your cabin attendant, do something so that the crew can do all they can to make it better for you during the cruise rather than shout at me after the cruise.”

Realistic Expectations for Cabin Temps

As for the specific demand for a 60-degree cabin, Heald was pretty straightforward. “I’m going to be honest, if you want it to be 60°, don’t book,” he advised.

“I don’t think you can book any ship where it’s going to be 60°.” He confirmed that temperatures in the range of “65, 66, 67, 68 those are all within normal parameters and you can adjust it of course as well.”

There are many ways to make your stateroom more livable and make it more like home.  Some cruise ships have portable fans that can be requested if you still can’t get comfortable with the temperatures.  But I recommend packing your own portable fan.

Level8 Luggage Review

Prior to being gifted the Luminous Textured luggage set by Level8, we used a mishmash of odd cases – some of which were over ten years old. But oh my goodness, these suitcases are so much better than any I have tried before!

Different luggage sizes

I’ve never had a matching luggage set and never tried a solid case either, so I was very keen to see what I was missing!

Level 8 is a premium luggage brand, but are they worth it? In this guide, I’ll explain how these cases have completely changed my cruise experience…

2025 Update: I have been using these cases for 18 months now and they are still as good as new!

What is Level 8 luggage?

Level 8 is a luggage brand that has managed to make a name for itself in the market due to its high-quality products. Their luggage is made from extra durable materials like polycarbonate to ensure that their luggage can withstand rough handling during travel.

What a level 8 luggage looks like

The luggage also features a TSA-approved lock that provides an extra layer of security. In terms of design, Level 8 luggage is sleek and modern, with a variety of colours and patterns to choose from. The luggage also has a spacious interior that allows for easy packing and organisation.

Pros and Cons

As I tested the Level 8 luggage, I found some advantages and disadvantages. I’m sharing these to help you make an informed decision before purchasing the product.

Pros

1. Durability

The Level 8 luggage is made of high-quality materials that make it durable and long-lasting. It can withstand rough handling during travel and protect your belongings.

And I can confirm that after being taken on countless flights and cruises over the past 18 months, my cases are still as good as new!

2. Security

The luggage comes with a TSA-approved lock that ensures your belongings are safe and secure during travel. The lock is easy to set up and use, and you can be assured that only you can access your luggage.

Level 8 luggage lock

3. Organisation

The luggage has a spacious interior with multiple compartments that allow you to organise your belongings efficiently. You can easily access your items without having to rummage through your luggage.

Level 8 luggage compartments

4. Wheels

The Level 8 luggage has four double-spinner wheels that make it easy to manoeuvre through crowded airports and busy streets. The wheels are also quiet and smooth, making it easy to transport your luggage.

Level 8 luggage wheels

Cons

1. Weight

As Level 8 suitcases are solid, they’re never going to be the lightest on the market. This may be a problem if you have weight restrictions on your cruise or flights and you choose the largest case.

With a set, you can easily get around this potential issue by packing the heaviest items in one of the smaller cases.

Level 8 cases

2. Price

The Level 8 luggage is relatively expensive compared to other luggage brands in the market. It may not be a viable option for cruisers on a budget.

3. Design

The luggage has a simple and straightforward design, which may not appeal to travellers who prefer more stylish and fashionable luggage. It may also be challenging to identify your luggage in a sea of similar-looking bags.

Overall, the Level 8 luggage is a durable and secure option for travellers who prioritise functionality, comfort and security. However, the weight and price may be a concern for some. The plain black design may not be to everyone’s taste, but there are more colours and styles to choose from on the Level8 website.

Read on for my full review of Level 8 luggage….

Security

One of the standout features of this luggage is its TSA-approved combination lock, which adds an extra layer of security to your belongings. The lock is easy to set and use, and it provides peace of mind knowing that your luggage is secure.

Level 8 luggage lock

I’ll be honest, the last time I bothered to add a lock to my case was ten years ago when we flew to the US for our honeymoon cruise. In traditional style, we left our wedding party at midnight and headed straight to our hotel at the airport.

The thing is, my husband lost the keys to his luggage, so at 3 am we had to have a member of staff from the hotel come to our room with some bolt cutters to cut off the lock so he could open his case!

With the combination locks on the Level8 cases, this wouldn’t be a problem!

Size and Weight

When it comes to luggage, size and weight are two of the most important factors to consider. As someone who cruises frequently, I understand the importance of having a bag that is both spacious and lightweight.

The Level 8 luggage comes in a range of sizes, from carry-on to large checked luggage, so you can choose the size that best suits your travel needs. I have the set that comes with three cases. I like that the smaller one stacks inside the larger one, so they take up less storage space.

The large suitcase can fit the smaller suitcase inside

The carry-on size is perfect for short trips or as a carry-on bag for the first day of your cruise. The medium size is ideal for longer trips, while the large size is great for families or those who need to pack a lot of items.

In terms of weight, the Level 8 luggage is not as heavy as it looks. The carry-on size weighs just 3.5 kg, while the medium size weighs 4.44 kg and the large size weighs 5.8 kg.

Storage Capacity and Organisation

The interior of the luggage is spacious and well-organised, with multiple compartments and pockets that make it easy to pack and access your belongings.

I like that each side can be zipped shut, so that when you open your case, nothing spills out. If you’re taking one of those shorter trips where you don’t actually unpack your case, it’s much easier to get to your stuff when it’s already divided into two halves.

Level 8 lugagge compartments

At the end of the trip, I like to use one half for clean clothes and one for dirty, so that they don’t contaminate each other!

The luggage also comes with compression straps that help keep your clothes and other items in place during transit, reducing the risk of wrinkling or damage.

The suitcase has multiple compartments, which makes it easy to organize my belongings. There’s a large main compartment for my clothes, as well as smaller compartments for toiletries, shoes, and other items. The interior pockets are also great for keeping things like chargers and headphones easily accessible.

I do miss having an outside pocket though, as that can come in handy for when you arrive at your destination and remove your jacket.

Manoeuvrability

The Level 8 luggage is designed for ease of use, with four double-spinner wheels that provide smooth and effortless movement in any direction. The wheels are also durable and can withstand the wear and tear of frequent travel.

Luggage wheels

I’ve only recently tried a four-wheel suitcase from another brand. The kids love to push it through the airport. But one problem is that it tips over really easily so I can’t really let them do it. This isn’t a problem at all with the Level8 cases. No matter how roughly you shove it, it doesn’t tip over.

Overall, the Level 8 luggage is a great option for anyone in need of a reliable and stylish piece of luggage. Its combination of design, build quality, storage capacity, and manoeuvrability make it a top choice for frequent travellers and casual vacationers alike.

Durability and Construction

When it comes to luggage, durability and construction are two of the most important factors to consider. After all, you want your luggage to last through multiple trips and protect your belongings while in transit.

The luggage is constructed with a hard shell made from polycarbonate material. This material is known for its durability and resistance to impact, making it ideal for luggage. In addition, the shell has a diamond-textured finish that not only looks sleek but also provides extra scratch resistance.

The zippers on the luggage are also of high quality, with a smooth glide and sturdy construction.

Overall, I am confident in the durability and construction of the Level 8 luggage. Let’s see if it lasts for ten years, like my previous cases have!

What a level 8 luggage looks like from the inside

Aesthetics

Level 8 luggage is available in a range of colours, including black, silver, navy blue and even yellow. so you can choose the one that best suits your personal style. The Level 8 logo is prominently displayed on the front of the luggage, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

One of the standout features of the Level 8 luggage is its attention to detail. The zippers are made from high-quality materials and are designed to glide smoothly, making it easy to access your belongings. The telescoping handle is also well-designed, with a comfortable grip and easy-to-use locking mechanism.

Level 8 suitcases

Price and Value

When it comes to purchasing luggage, price and value are two critical factors to consider. While Level8 luggage isn’t the cheapest, I do feel that you get what you pay for and that it offers good value for money.

Compared to other high-end luggage brands, Level 8 offers a competitive price point without compromising on quality. The brand’s commitment to using high-quality materials and innovative design ensures that their luggage is durable and long-lasting.

In terms of pricing, Level 8’s luggage falls within the mid-range to high-end price bracket. However, considering the quality of materials and features, the price is justified.

Final Verdict

I love my Level 8 luggage and I can confidently say that it is a solid choice for cruisers who want a durable and reliable suitcase. Its hard-shell design and TSA-approved lock provide excellent security, while the four dual-spinner wheels make it easy to manoeuvre through crowded airports.

In terms of design, the Level 8 luggage is sleek and modern, with a range of colours to choose from. However, some users may find the lack of external pockets to be a downside, as it limits the amount of quick-access storage available.

Overall, I would recommend the Level 8 luggage to anyone in need of a sturdy and spacious suitcase for their cruises. While it may not have every feature that some travellers desire, it excels in the areas that matter most: durability, security, and ease of use.

2025 Update

I have recently received a new suitcase from Level8 – The Voyageur. This one has everything that the Luminous has, with some fantastic extra features!

Level8 Vouageur

I love the wide handle on this version – it makes packing the inside space so much easier. And the waterproof compartment where you can stash your damp swimming costume is a genius idea!

Check out my full review of the Level8 Voyager to see why this is the best suitcase I’ve ever had.

“We are reaching out with important information regarding your Disney Wish sailing departing from Port Canaveral on Friday, May 16, 2025.

Due to a technical issue with Online Check-in for your sailing, we will need to verify all Guests’ documentation during the check-in process at the terminal on embarkation day. This includes reviewing citizenship documentation and capturing photos for each Guest. Please be sure to bring all required documentation and travel documents with you.

As a result, Guests many experience an extended wait during the check-in process. Please plan to arrive at your assigned Port Arrival Time and travel with any convenience items you may need should you encounter a delay at the terminal. Guests who arrive prior to their Port Arrival Time will be asked to wait to enter the cruise terminal until their scheduled time.

If you were unable to complete Online Check-in prior to your sailing and did not receive a Port Arrival Time, please plan to arrive to the port at 2:00 PM for check-in.

We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you onboard soon.

Sincerely,
The Cast and Crew
Disney Wish”

Cruising’s 7 Deadly Sins – Find Out If You’re A Sinner!

Not all cruise passengers know how to behave when they’re sailing. Or some do, but they don’t care, and they will act however they want to.

Those people are awful, and you don’t want to be lumped in with them. Soon enough, you’ll be getting a reputation onboard and you might even be called out all over social media groups for your bad behaviour.

Sins of cruising

There are several common ‘sins’ of cruising – so here’s how you can avoid them and rise above to be a better shipmate.

1. Envy – Suite Jealousy and Status Sulking

It’s easy to look at the VIP guests with their private sun decks, fast-track embarkation and passes for the first tender boats and feel a bit green. But letting envy get the better of you can turn your holiday sour.

Royal Loft Suite guest

Trying to sneak into reserved lounges, moaning about how it’s “not fair,” or obsessively comparing cabin sizes won’t magically give you a balcony. It’ll just ruin your mood.

There will always be someone cruising with more perks – focus on what you get. Even the most basic cabin still comes with sunsets, sea breezes and someone bringing you dessert.

Honourable mentions

Sneaking into suite spaces you shouldn’t be in  – want to enjoy the private suite sundeck? Book a suite. Don’t be so greedy that you feel you’re entitled to it when you’ve only booked an Inside.

Mocking people with premium perks under the guise of humour – “must be nice to get turn up late and get the best seats in the theatre” isn’t as casual as you think.

Rolling your eyes at suite passengers – their cruise isn’t affecting yours unless you let it.

2. Greed – Lounger Hogging

There’s a special place in cruise hell for the chair hogs. You know the type – towels down at dawn, five loungers claimed for a family who won’t appear until noon, all guarded by a single paperback and a pair of sunglasses.

Several sun loungers on the deck of a cruise ship are covered with towels, indicating they have been reserved by passengers. The loungers are arranged in rows, with some towels draped and others neatly folded, set against the backdrop of multiple deck levels and glass railings.

Greed like this doesn’t just apply poolside. You’ll also find it in the theatre when people “reserve” whole rows with jumpers and bags, or even in the buffet where people will swipe bigger tables even if they’re just a couple, because they ‘need’ more space.

Cruising works best when everyone remembers they’re sharing. If you’re not actively using a space, don’t claim it. Simple.

And if you see someone looking lost and standing awkwardly while you’ve been saving the seat next to you for an hour? Invite them to sit down. It’s amazing what can happen when people stop treating every deck chair like a personal inheritance.

Honourable mentions

Grabbing the last pizza slice even if you aren’t that hungry  – there’ll always be more on the way, so why not let someone else take that one if you aren’t sure you’ll need it?

Refusing to share elevator space – nobody wants to be in a cramped elevator, but it’s better than forcing someone else to wait when you could clearly bunch up a bit. Don’t be greedy over floor space. Get cosy – it won’t be for long.

3. Gluttony – Buffet Overload

Cruise ships and food go hand in hand – but some people take it a step too far.

Mountains of bacon, three croissants, a mid-morning ice cream, lunch, two poolside pizzas, afternoon tea, a pre-dinner canapé or two… and suddenly, the main event – dinner – feels like a chore instead of a treat.

Vegan buffet food

Gluttony isn’t just about overindulgence. It’s about waste. Piling up a plate at the buffet only to leave most of it untouched is both inconsiderate and, frankly, unnecessary.

Food is always available on a cruise. There’s no need to hoard or over-order. A little restraint will leave you feeling better and enjoying your meals more – especially if you’ve splurged on a specialty restaurant.

Food waste is also one of the biggest issues on cruises when it comes to environmental concerns, so don’t be the person that contributes unfairly.

Honourable mentions

Over-snacking throughout the day – this is totally up to you, but turning up to dinner already stuffed will leave you disappointed and can cause issues with your travelling party – they don’t want you just to watch them eating while you’re sat nursing a full stomach.

Ordering room service you’re not actually going to eat – it’s not just wasteful, it’s disrespectful to the crew who have to prep and deliver it.

Taking three of every dessert “just to try” – not so much of an issue if you’re actually eating them all, but don’t abandon them.

Treating every food venue as a personal eating challenge – it’s a cruise, not an eating contest.

4. Pride – The Bragging Cruiser

Some passengers treat the ship like a floating leaderboard — who’s done the most cruises, scored the fanciest cabin, or got upgraded thanks to their loyalty points and “connections.”

They can’t help but tell you how much they paid (or didn’t), how their last ship was so much better, or how they’ve “been to this port loads of times already.”

Bragging cruise passenger

There’s nothing wrong with being proud of your travels, but rubbing it in other guests’ faces just makes you a bore.

Swap stories, share tips, but maybe don’t turn every conversation into a humblebrag monologue.

Honourable mentions

Flashing your loyalty card in every conversation – no one’s awarding medals at the pool bar.

Dropping “suite life” references every chance you get – people don’t need to know how many square feet your bathroom has.

Mocking someone’s inside cabin – if your joy requires belittling someone else’s setup, it’s not as impressive as you think.

Correcting newer cruisers like it’s a job – offering tips is nice, being a know-it-all isn’t.

5. Lust – Balcony Mischief and PDA Overkill

Romance at sea is lovely. Full-blown lust? Maybe keep it behind closed doors.

Balcony escapades may seem private, but the crew can see everything.

A smiling couple embracing in a swimming pool, looking at each other with joy. The woman has blonde hair and the man has dark hair, both appearing happy and relaxed in the water.

Public displays of affection that belong in a rom-com bedroom scene are more cringe than cute.

The same goes for flirtation that crosses the line — especially with crew members who, by the way, are working under strict codes of conduct.

You’re not starring in your own cruise romance drama. Keep things classy.

Honourable mentions

Late-night noise from neighbouring cabins – if your romantic evening can be heard three doors down, you might want to turn the volume down (and maybe the playlist up).

Over-the-top PDA in the hot tub – there are families around, and no one wants to sit in someone else’s make-out zone.

Unsolicited touching or innuendo on the dance floor – the ship’s rocking is no excuse for being handsy.

6. Sloth – Cabin Chaos and Hygiene Neglect

Cruising is the ultimate lazy holiday – no cooking, no cleaning, and nothing on your to-do list.

But some take that as permission to live like teenagers left alone for the weekend. Leaving your cabin looking like a laundry bomb went off, ignoring basic hygiene, or refusing to clear up after yourself in shared spaces affects the whole ship.

Dirty hands cruise passenger

And seriously – wash your hands. With real soap. Every time.

Honourable mentions

Dumping your plates and cups wherever you last sat – nobody wants to see your half-eaten burger left on a pool lounger.

Leaving wet towels and clothes everywhere in your cabin – your steward is not your personal laundry fairy.

Skipping handwashing at every opportunity – those sanitiser stations aren’t decorative.

7. Wrath – The Angry Guest

Everyone’s allowed a grumble now and then. But there’s a difference between giving polite feedback and full-on cruise rage.

Some passengers turn minor issues – like a missing towel animal or lukewarm soup – into front-page scandals.

Angry cruise passenger

Worse are those who yell at the crew over things they can’t control, like slow service or port changes.

Being unpleasant doesn’t get problems solved faster. It just ruins the atmosphere. The crew are human, and most genuinely want to help – so give them a chance to do just that.

Honourable mentions

Throwing a tantrum over dinner reservations – the maître d’ isn’t hiding the good tables out of spite.

Snapping at bar staff for delays – when half the ship ordered cocktails at the same time, maybe it’s not a personal vendetta.

Raising your voice at guest services – they’re not a punching bag for every small inconvenience.

Publicly shaming entertainment staff – didn’t love the magician? Fine. No need to roast him in the atrium like it’s open mic night.

Final Word

A cruise ship may be your temporary floating kingdom, but it’s also a shared space with hundreds, or thousands, of other people.

A bit of self-awareness and courtesy go a long way. Avoid these sins, and your shipmates will thank you – even if they don’t say it out loud.

Why Do People Get So Hooked on Cruises? Cruisers Explain

We call it Cruise Fever.  It’s that unstoppable desire to be on a cruise and the 24/7 daydreaming of being back on a cruise once you’re back on land.

For many, once they start cruising, they are hooked.  So, what makes this type of vacation so addicting?

A recent social media post asked this very question, and cruisers were quick to chime in with their reasons for wanting to be at sea so much with dozens of comments and opinions.

A cruise related subreddit asked “Why is cruising so addicting?”.  The user who posted it was even thinking about booking another cruise just to hit loyalty status – classic sign of Cruise Fever.

Here are some of the most common answers cruisers gave for this amazing addiction:

Seriously Easy to Plan

Planning a big trip can be a headache. Flights, hotels, getting around, finding places to eat every single night – it’s a lot. Cruising, though? Much simpler.

As user LeonardoDecafrio put it, “I think one of the easiest vacations to plan. Like once you select your ship and route that’s 90% of your planning done.” Boom. Most of the big stuff is sorted from the get-go. You pick your ship and where it’s going, and a huge chunk of the work is already done for you.

A Real Break from Everything

Life is busy. We’ve all got schedules, to-do lists, and worries. Cruising offers a chance to actually escape all that. One commenter described this feeling: “To me it’s the getting away from it all. No time schedule, nothing to do, nothing to worry about.” Imagine waking up and the only decision is what kind of fun you want to have (or not have).

You can be as connected or as purposely out of touch as you want.

This was slightly easier when Wi-Fi packages weren’t so accessible and you actually had to completely unplug, but it’s still an amazing break.

Everything’s Right There (and You Only Unpack Once)

The hassle of packing and unpacking at every stop on a multi-city trip is exhausting just to think about. Cruising fixes that.

You get on board, unpack, and that’s it.

Your floating hotel takes you from place to place. Plus, not having to stress about where to eat for every single meal is a game-changer for many.

User No_Owl_7380 mentioned this ease, saying, “For me it’s the ease of it and not having to worry about accommodations and what to eat every day plus unpacking once.” It’s like an all-inclusive resort that moves.

Your Own Little Walkable City (That Travels)

A cruise ship is kind of like its own little town. You can walk to restaurants, cafes, pools, shows, and shops. It’s incredibly convenient and depending on the cruise line, mostly all paid for.

Another comment on the post pointed out the uniqueness of this: “I think part of it is that it’s the only time some of us ever get to live in a totally walkable community.”

And then, bam, you wake up in a whole new place or even a new country. It’s an amazing way to see different places while sleeping in the same bed each night.

The feeling of waking up, looking out the window and being in a totally new place from the day before it something I still get giddy about.

They Just Want You to Be Happy (and Fed and Entertained)

At the end of the day, a cruise ship’s main goal is pretty simple: make sure you have a good time. The staff are generally focused on making your trip enjoyable, and there are always options for food and fun.

It’s the service, the fact that someone else is handling the cooking and cleaning, and that the crew is there to make your vacation smooth. As user BrainDad-208 commented, it’s “ultimately satisfying when you get great service, something decent you didn’t have to cook or clean up, and then a show you don’t have to drive home from.”

That experience of having the details handled allows you to actually relax on your vacation.  We’ve all been on vacations where it felt like we needed another week off just to recover, right?  With most cruises, it’s different.

Bottom Line

So, while the idea of being “addicted” might make it seem like something for which we need therapy, the reasons behind why people love cruising and keep coming back are pretty clear.

It’s the mix of easy planning, genuine relaxation, all-in-one convenience, the unique onboard experience, and the feeling that the whole trip is designed for your enjoyment.

Cruise Fever was started for these reasons, and we hope to continue to inspire and offer helpful insights for all our readers.
