Castaway Cay Vs Lookout Cay: Which Is Best?

Disney Cruise Line has had its own private island, Castaway Cay since 1998. In 2024, the cruise line opened a new island resort – Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Which is better? Well, I’ve been lucky enough to visit both islands so in this guide I’ll show you how the two compare, so you can decide which you’d most like to visit on your next cruise.

1. Castaway Cay is an island, but Lookout Cay is not

Castaway Cay is an island in the Abaco Islands, while Lookout Cay is located at Lighthouse Point on the southern tip of the island of Eleuthera.

You may be surprised to learn that Lookout Cay is just 2 miles from Princess Cays, which is Carnival’s private resort. There’s even a road that links the two destinations!

So does it matter that Lookout Cay isn’t actually a private island? Not at all. They both have the same island feel. Castaway Cay is pretty big and only a small portion of the island is open to visitors anyway.

2. The resorts have different themes

Castaway Cay is themed as a fictional shipwrecked community, whereas Lighthouse Point is designed in a way that celebrates Bahamian culture.

Castaway Cay transports you to a whimsical shipwrecked paradise, complete with rustic touches, beachy charm, and hints of Disney magic throughout. The rickety patched-together buildings and shipwreck props that are dotted around make you feel like you’ve been lost on a desert island.

In contrast, Lookout Cay is a celebration of Bahamian culture. Designed with input from local artists and architects, it incorporates authentic art and traditions into the landscape.

Goombay Cultural Center Lookout Cay
Lookout Cay has traditional Bahamian Architecture

At Lookout Cay, Junkanoo parades and cultural workshops give visitors a true taste of Bahamian life, making this resort feel more connected to its roots.

3. Both resort have lots of activities

No matter which resort you’ll visit, you’ll find plenty to do… Although you may prefer to do nothing at all!

For families, one of the best spots to enjoy on Lookout Cay is the Rush Out Gush Out splash area. This has lots of spray jets and slides that are suitable for kids of all ages.

Castaway Cay has waterslides too at Pelican Plunge. One of these is quite slow but one is really fast, making it more suitable for teenagers and adults.

Visitors enjoy the sun-soaked waterslides at Castaway Cay, with a musician playing steel drums under an orange umbrella on the white sandy beach.

If you’re into snorkelling, kayaking or paddleboarding, you’ll be pleased to learn that both islands offer these. The snorkelling is better at Castaway Cay though as you have a choice of searching for underwater statues, or snorkelling with rays.

Stingrays at Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay has a 5K run that you can take part in. It’s not a race, you can start and finish whenever you want. The weather in the Bahamas is warm to hot all year round, so I recommend starting as early as possible. Finishers get a much deserved medal at the end.

If walking is more your thing, then Lookout Point is better as it has a nature trail where I managed to spot snakes, moths, lizards and crabs. At Castaway Cay you can walk to the Observation Tower, but the walk isn’t as exciting. At both destinations you can also hire bikes to get around more easily.

4. Lookout Cay is more spread out

At Castaway Cay you can step off the ship and be at the beach within a brisk 5-minute walk. If you prefer not to walk, or want to head to the adults-only Serenity Bay area at the far side of the island, you can also travel by tram.

Map of Lookout Cay and Castaway Cay

At Lookout Cay, the pier is approximately half a mile long. It’s a 10 to 15-minute walk from the ship to the tram stop, and then a 5-minute tram ride to the centre of the resort.

The length of the pier has had a lot of comments online, with some people saying that the long walk with no shade wasn’t enjoyable in the heat of summer. I visited in November so the weather was milder, but I sympathise with people who aren’t as able bodied or who struggle with heat.

The pier at Lighthouse Point

If you can’t manage the walk, you should let guest services know in advance, so that they can arrange for a golf buggy to take you down the pier. At both resorts, kids’ pushchairs, wagons and sand-friendly wheelchairs are available for you to borrow if needed.

5. Both resorts have family and adult only beaches

Whether you have kids or not, both Cataway Cay and Lookout Cay cater for you with a beach to suit. There are also a selection of cabanas by these beaches for those who want the upmost in relaxation.

Serenity Bay
Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay

Both resorts also have land-based kids’ clubs if your children would prefer to play there with the youth team from the ship while you head to the adults only area.

6. Lookout Cay has bigger waves

Both resorts have beautiful beaches with turquoise waters and white sand. On Castaway Cay, the beaches are nestled within coves and so the water is usually pretty flat.

Calm seas at Castaway Cay

Lighthouse Point is more exposed, so you will often find some waves there. When the waves are large and the red flags are up, the lifeguards don’t let you go into the water past your knees.

The waves at Lookout Cay

While playing in the waves can be fun, the swimming is usually better at Castaway Cay as it’s much more calm.

7. Lookout Cay has more excursion options

Since Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point isn’t an island, guests have more options when it comes to excursions. I imagine that on your first visit you’ll probbaly be happy to simply explore the resort, but if you’re a Disney Cruise Line regular, you’ll be pleased to know that there are more places you can venture to once your ship docks at Lighthouse Point.

If you’d like to head outside of the resort of Lookout Cay, you can book a tour that will take you to discover more of the south of Eleuthera with options to learn about the history and culture of the Bahamas. You can also take excursions to some excellent fishing spots or snorkelling reefs nearby.

The Verdict

Which is the best out of Disney’s two private islands? The brand-new Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point and the well-established island of Castaway Cay certainly have their differences.

The shipwrecked theme of Castaway Cay is fun, and the island has lots of activities for kids and adults to enjoy. However, I do also love how fresh and new everything on Lookout Cay is – the buildings strike the perfect balace between modern and traditional.

This may seem like a cop out, but I really can’t pick a favourite! I visited both islands just one month apart, in November and December 2024 and I love them both just as much as each other.

So whichever island you visit, I promise you’ll have a wonderful day ashore!

British Cruise Ship Rescues Fishing Boat By Gifting A New Battery

P&O Cruises’ ship Arvia undertook a rescue mission this week after spotting a fishing boat in distress.

P&O Arvia fishing boat rescue
Image credit: P&O Cruises / Lisa Doolan

According to guests posting on Facebook group P&O Arvia Caribbean Season, the crew of the cruise ship spotted the distress flares from the fishing boat, which was drifting at night having lost power.

Because the battery on the fishing boat had completely died, the owner hadn’t been able to call for help, so had resorted to sending up distress flares.

The crew were able to bring Arvia close to the fishing boat, where they were able to donate a new battery to the owner.

This restored power to the boat, allowing it to return home.

A video of the incident can be viewed on the Facebook group.

The passengers were full of praise for the quick actions and generosity of the crew, commenting on how lucky it was that Arvia had been passing the fishing boat.

Cruise ships to the rescue

This isn’t the first time a cruise ship has come to the aid of a smaller vessel in distress.

Over the years, cruise ships have played a vital role in assisting seafarers in emergency situations, thanks to their advanced communication equipment, medical facilities, and trained crews.

One well-documented case occurred in December 2018 when Royal Caribbean’s Empress of the Seas rescued two stranded fishermen near Grand Cayman. The fishermen had been adrift for 20 days without proper food or water after their vessel’s engine failed.

Crew members provided them with medical care, food, and water before coordinating with local authorities to transfer them to safety. News agencies at the time called it a “Christmas miracle”

Cruise ships will occasionally help refugee boats in distress too, bringing refugees onboard and then dropping them with the nearest suitable authorities.

These incidents highlight the role cruise ships can play in maritime safety. With their large size, sophisticated equipment, and experienced crews, cruise ships are often well-placed to assist smaller vessels in need.

Crew members are trained to handle emergency situations, and the ships are often in constant communication with maritime authorities, enabling a swift and coordinated response.

Disney Treasure Vs. Disney Wish: 6 Key Differences

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ships, Disney Treasure and Disney Wish, are two of the most magical ships on the seas.

But what sets them apart? From themes to dining experiences, these sister ships each have their own unique charm.

I’ve been lucky enough to sail on both ships. Here’s a list of the top differences I noticed between the two…

1. Grand Halls: Aladdin vs. Cinderella

The atrium is the heart of any Disney ship and as you step on board the first thing you’ll notice is how different these Grand Halls are.

Disney Treasure: Aladdin-themed

Inspired by the movie Aladdin, the Grand Hall of the Disney Treasure features rich gold tones and adventurous Middle Eastern vibes.

A statue of Aladdin, Jasmine, and the Magic Carpet is the centrepiece.

Disney Wish: Cinderalla-themed

Disney Wish’s Grand Hall is straight out of a fairytale, themed around Cinderella. It shimmers with soft blues and golds, and a bronze statue of Cinderella adds an elegant touch.

Which is better?

Both Grand Halls are truly breathtaking. But for me, the Cinderalla-themed atrium on the Wish has the edge. Just because you can pose with the statue. As the statue on the Treasure is a flying carpet, it’s a bit high up, espeically for kids.

Cruise Mummy Disney Wish Grand Hall

2. Dining Experiences: Coco vs. Frozen

Both the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure cruise ships feature three main dining rooms as part of Disney Cruise Line’s rotational dining experience, allowing guests to enjoy a different themed restaurant each night.

Both ships have the high-tech ‘Worlds of Marvel’ restaurant and the sophisticated 1920s-themed ‘1923’ restauarnt.

The third restuarnant, however is different. Although both provide immersive dining experiences.

Disney Treasure: Plaza de Coco

Disney Treasure: Plaza de Coco

A unique addition to the Disney Treasure, this restaurant offers an immersive dining experience inspired by Disney-Pixar’s Coco.

It featuries live entertainment and Mexican cuisine that will transport you straight to the Land of the Dead.

Disney Wish: Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure

A vibrant performance of 'Frozen' characters in Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure on the Disney Wish cruise ship, with guests enjoying the show featuring Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, and Olaf.

This immersive dining experience brings the kingdom of Arendelle to life. Here, you can enjoy live entertainment with characters from Disney’s Frozen and a menu inspired by Nordic cuisine.

Which is better?

Again, this is just down to personal preference, but I loved the Mexican cuisine and would always choose that over Nordic food. I loved the shows at both restaurants though.

3. Themed Lounges: Haunted Mansion & Jungle Cruise Vs Star Wars & The Princess and The Frog

When it’s time to unwind, the lounges take you into the world of Disney classics.

Disney Treasure: Haunted Mansion Parlor

Disney Treasure: Haunted Mansion Parlor

The Haunted Mansion Parlor aboard Disney Treasure offers a delightfully spooky and immersive experience, bringing the beloved Haunted Mansion attraction to life.

The decor is richly detailed, featuring gothic furnishings, flickering candelabras and portraits that may seem to watch your every move. Special effects create a sense of the supernatural, with mirrors that reveal ghostly apparitions and objects that appear to move on their own.

The menu at the Haunted Mansion Parlor continues the theme, offering a range of drinks with spooky names and dramatic presentations.

Disney Treasure: Skipper Society

Disney Treasure: The Skipper Society

The Skipper Society is a jungle-themed bar inspired by the Jungle Cruise ride, complete with quirky decor and adventurous cocktails. There is one particular cocktail that comes in a box filled with smoke. I can’t remember the name of it, but it’s worth asking for.

Disney Wish: Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge

Disney Wish: Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge

The Star Wars bar on Disney Wish offers a galactic getaway with space-themed drinks and views of passing planets.

With a sleek, futuristic design and stunning special effects, the lounge features large “windows” that transport you to various iconic Star Wars locations, such as Tatooine, Batuu, and Endor, with planets, starships, and cosmic phenomena passing by in real-time.

Disney Wish: The Bayou

The Bayou on Disney Wish is a stunning lounge that brings the charm of New Orleans to the high seas. Inspired by The Princess and the Frog, this enchanting venue captures the essence of the Louisiana bayou with its lush greenery, twinkling lights, and elegant touches of Southern hospitality.

Which is better?

The Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Treasure feels just like the ride. It’s so popular that Disney Cruise Line has had to implement at 45-minute time limit on visits to ensure that everyone gets a turn.

I also love the theming of the Skipper Society which strikes the perfect balance between the feeling of being on the ride and not being too overdone.

4. Stage Shows: Moana Vs The Little Mermaid

Broadway-style shows are a Disney Cruise Line specialty, and each ship has unique productions:

Disney Treasure: The Tale of Moana

Disney Treasure: The Tale of Moana

Disney Treasure debuts an all-new show based on Moana. This original production brings the epic life story of Moana to life with stunning visuals, dazzling costumes, and a heartfelt narrative that celebrates her journey of self-discovery and bravery.

With iconic songs like How Far I’ll Go and We Know the Way, performed with breathtaking vocal talent and accompanied by dynamic choreography, this is an emotional show. When I watched it there were so many people wiping tears from their eyes, and of course, a roaring standing ovation at the end.

Disney Wish: The Little Mermaid

Disney Wish: The Little Mermaid

On board Disney Wish you can see The Little Mermaid, an original adaptation of the classic tale. This stage production reimagines the beloved story, combining the magic of the undersea world with fresh takes on iconic characters like Ariel, Sebastian, and Ursula.

Stunning visuals transport audiences beneath the waves, while unforgettable songs such as Part of Your World and Under the Sea captivate and delight.

Which is better?

Both shows are performed to the highest standards and are thoroughly enjoyable for audiences of all ages. But for me, the Tale of Moana is the winner given the emotional story and incredible special effects.

5. AquaMouse Adventures

Aquamouse

Both ships feature the AquaMouse water coaster, but the storytelling differs. As your raft ascends to the highest point, you’ll see short movies on the screens featuring Mickey Mouse and some of your favourite original Disney Characters. Each ship has different movies.

Which is better?

Honestly, I was too busy concentrating on avoiding the sprays of water and getting excited about the view over the side of the ship from the transparent tube that I didn’t pay too much attention to the story on either ship.

6. Itineraries: Shorter Vs Longer

The Disney Wish and Disney Treasure cater to different travel preferences with distinct itineraries, making them ideal for various types of cruisers.

Disney Treasure: 7-Night Sailings

The Disney Treasure offers 7-night itineraries to either Eastern Caribbean destinations like St. Thomas, Tortola, and San Juan, or Western Cari.bean ports such as Cozumel, Grand Cayman, and Falmouth, Jamaica.

Departing from Port Canaveral, most itineraries also include a visit to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

Disney Treasure at Castaway Cay

Disney Wish: 3- & 4-Night Sailings

Also departing from Port Canaveral, Disney Wish focuses on shorter sailings, perfect for first-time cruisers or those seeking a quick getaway. Most itineraries are 3- to 4-night cruises with stops in Nassau, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

Which Ship Will You Choose?

Whether you’re drawn to the adventurous allure of the Disney Treasure or the enchanting fairy-tale charm of the Disney Wish, both ships promise unforgettable magic.

Really, your decision will come down to the itinerary. If you can make time for a 7-night cruise, the Disney Treasure is sure to make all of your dreams come true. But, if you also plant to visit the Walt Disney World theme parks while you’re in Florida, then a cruise on the Disney Wish could be perfect for you.

Everything You Need To Know About Disney’s NEW Cruise Ship

A new cruise ship is always an exciting event – but it’s even more exciting when it’s a Disney ship. You can be sure that there will be some special features on board, and with this new ship, Disney Treasure, there are more wonders than ever before.

Disney Treasure is Disney’s sixth cruise ship

Disney Treasure is the sixth cruise ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. She’s the second ship in the Wish Class, and a twin sister ship to Disney Wish. She sets sail on her maiden voyage on 21st December 2024.

What To Expect Onboard the Disney Treasure

Disney Treasure offers the very best of everything Disney Cruise Line has offered previously on the Disney Wish, with some brand-new experiences that are unique to this new ship.

Guests can expect a ship that is tailor-made for families, and packed with vibrant attractions that will delight the younger members of your travelling party.

But she really has something for everyone, including the adults, with many call-backs to classic Disney movies and franchises and spaces suitable for unwinding without the kids.

The perfect size

Disney Treasure has a tonnage of 144,000 GT, a length of 1,119 feet and a height of 221 feet with 14 passenger decks. The beam (width) of the ship is 128 feet and the draft (depth) is 27 feet. The ship can accommodate 4,000 guests and 1,555 crew.

That’s exactly the same as Disney Wish and means that Disney Treasure will share the title of being the biggest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, at least until the new Global-class ship Disney Adventure launches in 2025.

Cruise Mummy with Disney Treasure in Castaway Cay

A new addition to the Wish Class

Disney Treasure is the second of the Wish-class ships for Disney Cruise Line. Prior classes include the Magic Class and the Dream Class. However, in a break from tradition, there will be a third Wish-class ship joining the fleet following Disney Treasure.

Disney’s fleet has never been huge, but the two prior classes both had only a pair of ships. This is great news for Disney-lovers, as it means even more options for a Disney cruise in future.

And it means we’ve got another Wish-class ship to get excited about after Disney Treasure as well – though let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

What’s Different About The Disney Treasure?

Here’s a breakdown of the new features and venues that are debuting on Disney Treasure…

1. Plaza de Coco

Plaza De Coco

Plaza de Coco is the first theatrical dining experience on a Disney Cruise ship themed around the popular Pixar movie ‘Coco’.

It’s similar to other themed dining experience venues on Disney ships – guests will enjoy their dinner with an interactive show happening around them, featuring songs and dancing from the movie that adds to the story.

It’s a two-night experience that guests will enjoy during their 7-night cruise, with part one picking up where the movie left off, and part two then continuing as Miguel meets his great-great-grandparents. Both nights offer a fun menu with modern twists on Mexican classics, with plenty of choices to suit all tastes.

2. Worlds of Marvel

Worlds of Marvel

Worlds of Marvel is another themed dining experience that guests can enjoy on Disney Treasure. While the concept of the restaurant isn’t new – Disney Wish has the same venue – the characters and story that guests enjoy are unique to the ship.

Other Avengers are incorporated into the theming, so you’re sure to enjoy all of your favourite superheroes, including Spider-Man. Again, there are two different nights as part of the cruise, with a menu serving global cuisine and fun interactive stories inspired specifically by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

3. Jumbeaux’s Sweets

Jumbeaux’s Sweets

Jumbeaux’s Sweets is a casual sweetshop venue that’s making its debut on the new Disney Treasure. It’s themed around the popular ice cream parlor from the movie Zootopia, so expect to see some fantastic Victorian-style architecture, vibrant pink walls, and a central sculpture of the main characters Officer Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

There are plenty of anthropomorphic animal characters to enjoy as part of the decor, but the real reason to visit is the food. There are more than 20 flavours of gelato to try, 16 flavours of ice cream and sorbets, and a whole host of candies, speciality treats and more to indulge in.

4. Skipper Society

 Skipper Society

The Disney Treasure has an overall theme of adventure, and that’s reflected in the addition of some new venues that, for the first time, bring some of the incredible nostalgia, heritage and lore from Disney Parks’ best rides to sea.

Chief among these is Skipper Society, a themed lounge located near the Grand Hall. It is themed around the iconic Jungle Cruise ride, paying tribute to not just the jungle setting of the ride but also the dry-witted skippers that helm the boat and make it eternally popular with their fantastic deadpan humour.

Guests can enjoy a selection of snacks and themed cocktails, with live entertainment and a whole host of references to the Disney Parks attraction, including a monkey-shaped chandelier.

5. Periscope Pub

Periscope Pub

The Periscope Pub is another venue themed after a classic Disney Parks attraction, but one that was based on a movie as well – 1954’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”.

The pub has a stunning 19th Century steampunk-inspired decor that mirrors the Walt Disney World attraction which was open from 1971 until 1994, perfect for those grown-ups who went on their own Disney adventures when they were younger.

But new fans will delight in the venue equally, thanks to its mysterious window on the ceiling that offers a virtual look into the ‘depths’ of the ocean, while a statement rug in the centre of the venue pays tribute to Captain Nemo’s nemesis, the giant squid. Craft beers and light snacks are available, while the relaxed venue shows live sports and news.

6. Grand Hall

Grand Hall on Disney Treasure

The Grand Hall serves as the central hub of the Disney Treasure, and as such it truly embodies the ship’s sense of adventure. It’s modelled on the gilded palace of Agrabah from the movie Aladdin, with various touches that call back to the wonder of the movie.

Thsi beautiful atrium serves as the main gathering space for guests, and there will be small moments of surprise throughout the cruise that guests will enjoy. These will include dedicated shows, character encounters and musical performances.

7. Heihei Cafe

Heihei Cafe

Just off the Grand Hall are two new cafes where guests can enjoy a selection of snacks and beverages, both of which are themed around adventurous Disney princesses.

The first of these is Heihei Cafe, which is named after the rooster from the movie Moana. As such, you can expect decor that includes seashells and blue ocean colours, and furniture that is built using authentic techniques that the Polynesian peoples used to make their own ships.

8. Jade Cricket Cafe

Jade Cricket Cafe

The second themed cafe off the Grand Hall is the Jade Cricket Cafe, inspired by the movie Mulan. The cafe pays homage to the Fa Family’s lucky cricket “Cri-Kee” who will have his own jade sculpture on the bar top.

The walls and counters of this cafe have been designed with Mulan’s armour in mind, using striking blue colours and metallic finishes. But the more gentle side of Mulan is also represented through plum blossom flowers, and the central moon gate reflects her heritage.

9. Sarabi

Sarabi

Sarabi is a multi-purpose lounge venue named for the matriarch of the Lion King family. It’s a central hub for many of the family daytime activities on the ship, while at night it transforms into an adults-only venue.

There’ll be live entertainment along with a great bar menu that guests can enjoy, while the decor is designed to evoke the beauty of the natural savannah that Sarabi herself called home.

10. AquaMouse: Curse of the Golden Egg

The AquaMouse made its debut on Disney Wish as the first genuine Disney attraction at sea, and it returns on Disney Treasure, but with a whole new theme and experience.

Mother and son on an aqua ride

Guests still board two-seat ride floats and be propelled along a series of tunnels with interactive elements, all styled around some of the classic Mickey Mouse animations. There are 760 feet of tubing soaring above the ship and offering incredible views.

However, with the Disney Treasure version of the ride, guests can look forward to following Mickey and Minnie on a wild adventure into an ancient temple that is home of the mysterious Golden Egg treasure.

Returning Favourites

As well as all of these new and exciting features, there are a host of returning favourites too, including:

    • Imagineering Lab – a fun space full of interactive hands-on experiences and experiments
    • Star Wars: Cargo Bay – where young adventurers can take on the role of creature handlers for some of the galaxy’s most unique animals

Disney Treasure Staterooms and Suites

The accommodation on Disney Treasure are inspired by some of Disney’s most famous tales of adventure. The ship will have 1,256 staterooms, with custom artworks from movies including Aladdin, Pocahontas, Up, and Encanto.

I stayed in an Aladdin-themed balcony stateroom and it was simply beautiful!

Balcony stateroom on the Disney Wish

Of the staterooms on the Disney Treasure, 84% offer an ocean view with 70% also having a private verandah. And with rooms that sleep up to five people and 451 connecting doors, there are even more opportunities for guests to book two staterooms side-by-side and enjoy extra space (and some quiet time for the adults too).

Meanwhile, the Concierge and Royal Suites will continue to offer exquisite luxury to guests, with feline theming from movies such as The Lion King, The Jungle Book (Bagheera), and Aladdin (Rajah).

Tomorrow Tower Suite

Tomorrow Tower Suite

Brand new for the Disney Treasure is the Tomorrow Tower Suite. Set in the ship’s funnel, this incredible accommodation option sleeps 8 guests and has a full kitchen alongside a private elevator and various spaces for playing, sleeping and eating.

As the name may imply to any Disney fan, the suite is themed around the EPCOT theme park, and includes futuristic touches including molten metal accents, colourful glass and some contemporary artworks.

Disney Treasure Itineraries

Disney Treasure homeports in Port Canaveral, Florida and offers seven-night itineraries around both the Eastern and Western Caribbean.

How much did the Disney Treasure cost to build?

Disney Cruise Line hasn’t announced a built cost for Disney Treasure. However, it’s estimated to have cost approximately $1.1 billion to build. The Disney Treasure was constructed by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany.

While this does make her an expensive ship, it’s only half the estimated cost of the biggest cruise ship in the world.

P&O Cruises Tagging Sun Loungers To Prevent Guests Reserving Them

P&O Cruises has been spotted using tags to help combat the issue of guests reserving sun loungers without using them.

P&O Lounger Tagging
Tag image credit: Trish Baker

Sun lounger reservations are a controversial topic on cruise ships. The problems arise when guests reserve a lounger with their towels but then leave to go and enjoy the rest of the ship’s facilities.

This often means other guests struggle to find a lounger to use, despite loungers being left with just towels reserving them for hours at a time.

P&O has instructed crew to start using tags to note down the times that loungers are being left unattended.

As reported by a passenger on Arvia, the crew are walking around the pool areas every 30-40 minutes, and attaching a tag to any unattended loungers that have been reserved with towels or other times.

The tags have the time written on them to show how long they are left unattended.

When crew complete their next walk-around, they are checking the tags and then removing the belongings of any loungers that haven’t been returned to, freeing up the lounger for other guests.

Several guests have reacted positively to this, calling it a “Brilliant idea” with some even saying they were being put off cruising by other selfish guests who hog loungers, only to barely use them.

P&O Cruises is not the first cruise line to introduce a similar system, with many cruise lines reacting to the widespread issue.

New Data Shows Pacific Islands Lead 2024 Destinations with 135% Surge in Cruise Demand

Cruise demand surged in 2024, with Pacific Island cruises standing out with a 135% increase compared to 2023, according to new data from Iglu Cruise.

Star Breeze South Pacific

The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) has forecast cruise demand to grow by 10% annually from 2024 to 2028. More than 37 million passengers are expected to cruise in 2025, a 7% increase from 2024.

According to Iglu Cruise, several key regions experienced a rise in demand in 2024, with the Pacific Islands, Asia, and South America seeing the most significant growth. The analysis compared passenger interest from 2024 to 2023.

The Pacific Islands led the surge with a 135% increase, while Asia saw a 48% rise, and South America’s demand increased by 35%. Antarctica, Central America, and the Canary Islands also saw notable increases of 31%, 25%, and 20%, respectively.

“Cruisers have been channelling their inner Moana over the last 12 months more than ever, as more ships are sailing around Bora Bora, Tahiti, the Tuamotu Archipelago and more,”

Dave Mills, Chief Commercial Officer, Iglu Cruise

The data highlights a global resurgence in cruising, with European cruises also increasing by 8%.

What’s driving the demand?

The rise in demand is being driven by new itineraries, additional ship deployments, and unique shore excursions.

For the Pacific Islands, cruise lines such as Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Paul Gauguin Cruises, and Oceania Cruises have ramped up operations in the region.

Similarly, Asia’s growing popularity has been fuelled by demand for Japan’s cherry blossom season, iconic landmarks like Mount Fuji, and popular destinations such as Singapore, Nagasaki, and Hong Kong.

“The popularity of Asia has been boosted by a phenomenal level of demand for Japan,”

Dave Mills, Chief Commercial Officer, Iglu Cruise

South American cruises have seen renewed interest, with itineraries combining tours of iconic sites like Machu Picchu and Iguazu Falls with immersive exploration cruises departing from Buenos Aires and Ushuaia.

Antarctic cruises remain popular for adventurous travellers seeking bucket-list experiences, with voyages through Drake Passage and scenic routes past the South Shetland Islands and King George Island.

In Central America, the Panama Canal remains a major draw, especially with full transit sailings offering a chance to marvel at this iconic engineering feat.

The Canary Islands saw an influx of ships from MSC Cruises and Marella Cruises, with more itineraries catering to European travellers seeking winter sun and balmy temperatures.

Demand for Mediterranean cruises, meanwhile, increased by 13%, with larger cruise lines such as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line opting to base some of their newest ships in the region. Transatlantic crossings, particularly the iconic Southampton to New York voyage aboard Queen Mary 2, also saw renewed interest.

European cruises from ports like Southampton, Dover, and Liverpool remained steady, with itineraries to Norway, Sweden, and Denmark gaining traction among those seeking scenic summer sailings.

With cruise demand set to grow further in 2025, cruise lines are expected to continue expanding their itineraries and ship deployments in these high-interest regions.

Reviews Of The Best Fertility Supplements For Travelers: Keeping Up While At Sea

Traveling sea; whether by boat, truck, whatever, can be an exhilarating journey with adventure and discovery. But, for people or couples who are trying to increase fertility, it also presents its own set of issues. To optimize reproductive health, it is important to keep a healthy regimen, which necessitates the taking of the necessary supplements. In this article, we review the best fertility supplements for travelers so you can carry on with your fertility plans no matter where you go.

Why Travelers Need Fertility Supplements

That means getting used to a new environment can shift your routines to start with diet and wellness. Fertility supplements have also been found to help hormone balance, like egg quality and sperm health. Mira fertility reviews indicate that doulas and various other mothers and fathers have seen success in the incorporation of these supplements into their everyday normal sustenance schedules. Having a reliable supply of fertility supplements on hand when you’re away from home will at least partially overcome the lack of nutritious fare.

Fertility optimization key nutrients

Before taking fertility supplements, it is important to know what’s the role of the essential nutrients in reproductive health. Here are some of the key ingredients to look for:

  • Folic Acid: As with people trying to conceive, it’s common to recommend a daily intake of folic acid because it’s so essential to proper cell division and DNA synthesis. It helps to prevent neural tube defects in early pregnancy.
  • Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10): A strong antioxidant, this also works to improve egg quality as well as reproductive function. It also makes it easier for cellular energy production to come to the forefront, and for women over 35, this can be especially helpful.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-33 fatty acids also help support reproductive functions, as well as the regulation of hormone production, and a healthy inflammatory response, found in fish oil supplements.
  • Vitamin D: Data prove that vitamin D deficiency can contribute to problems with fertility. There are good indications that adequate levels of vitamin D will help with overall reproductive health.
  • Zinc: Zinc is what’s most well known for its crucial role in testosterone production and supporting sperm quality, both of which are important for male fertility health.

Best of the best fertility supplements for travelers

Here are some of the best fertility supplements ideal for those on the go:

1. Fertility blend for women: This comprehensive supplement combines all the necessary vitamins and herbal ingredients specifically formulated for women trying to conceive. It is to help support hormonal balance and egg quality. A good thing about the small, portable packaging is that it’s perfect for traveling.

2. Men’s fertility support: This particular supplement is specially designed for men who are supposed to have vital volumes of zinc and CoQ10 that can help with improving sperm quality as well as their reproductive health, which has been proven. It’s compact enough to travel with.

3. Garden of Life Vitamin Code Raw Prenatal: A whole-food-based prenatal vitamin supports fertility with this blend of vitamins & minerals. Besides that, it is also filled with probiotics for digestive health, and it is a holistic choice for travelers.

4. NutraBlast Fertility Support for Women: This herbal supplement is a common pick because it contains vitamins, and natural ingredients that help balance hormones. It’s a perfect toss in a suitcase size and a convenient bottle as well.

5. Nature-Made Omega-3 Fish Oil: Traveling is generally harder on your hormones than staying home, and omega-3 is important for hormonal health, so this soft gel form is an easy thing to take on the go, in a compact format.

Keeping up with fertility health travel tips

While packing the right supplements is essential, there are other strategies to maintain fertility health while traveling:

  • Stay hydrated: Overall wellness and reproductive health are dependent on water. Maintaining adequate fluid intake is easy, just purchase a portable water bottle or hydration pack.
  • Nourish with balanced meals: When possible, seek out nutrient-rich foods. On the nutritional side, you can still eat fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and fresh lean proteins to keep your nutritional intake high.
  • Stick to your supplement schedule: It also means keeping up your supplement routine, even if you’re traveling. Put alarms on your phone to remind you to take your fertility supplements at their usual times.
  • Adjust to new time zones: If you’re jetting around the world, be sure to adjust your supplement intake times to match the local time in the country you are traveling to, so that you don’t skip out on a dose.
  • Pack strategically: Keeping your supplements organized is easy and only requires you to use a pill organizer to have everything you need at your fingertips.

Conclusion

If you plan carefully and take the right supplements, you can have the best of both worlds: you can go exploring new places while enjoying your reproductive health. However, fertility supplements given with healthy lifestyle choices form a great base for individuals and couples on their way to conception. Whether you find yourself north or south, east or west, no matter your journey location, being well prepared will get you there, even when you’re traveling, and allow you to get the most out of your journey.

The 4,208-passenger ship arrived on Wednesday and will be offering seasonal sailings out of the Florida cruise port through May 2025.

Carnival Venezia’s arrival makes it the fifth Carnival Cruise Line ship to currently homeport in Port Canaveral.  The other four ships include Carnival Vista, Carnival Glory, Carnival Freedom, and Mardi Gras.

The cruise line is the first to offer five ships at one time out of the port.

Port Canaveral CEO Capt. John Murray welcomed the ship to the Space Coast port, emphasizing the port’s long partnership with Carnival.

“Our new fiscal year is taking off in grand style with the arrival of Carnival Venezia, which represents the 16th cruise ship to home port at Port Canaveral – the most in our history.  We’ve have had a long and successful partnership with Carnival Cruise Line for nearly 35 years. We’re very proud of our collective growth and thrilled to play a role in their continuing success with Carnival Venezia added to our incredible lineup of homeported ships,” Murray stated.

Dubbed as a “Carnival Fun Italian Style” cruise ship, Venezia is Venice-themed and originally debuted with sister brand Costa Cruises.

In June 2022, Carnival announced that both Costa Venezia and Costa Firenze would be transferred to the cruise line’s fleet.  Both vessels are now Vista-class cruise ships and are the largest in the class with about 135,000 of gross tons in volume.

Carnival Venezia is currently on 4-day sailing to the Bahamas for its first voyage out of Port Canaveral.  From now until May 2025, Venezia will be sailing 7-day and 14-day cruises to the Eastern, Western, and Southern Caribbean.

On May 11, 2025, the ship will reposition back to New York on an 11-day one-way sailing.

Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, commented on the arrival of Carnival Venezia:

“Our Venice-themed ship adds another truly dynamic offering, with a fresh Italian twist on our signature Carnival fun plus the same friendly service our guests love and further enriches the variety of convenient options available to our loyal guests cruising from Orlando.”

Duffy also noted, “Our guests who sailed with Carnival Venezia from New York love the ship and its new experiences, and we know that she will add even more value to the Carnival offering in her new winter home at Port Canaveral.“
