The 5 Best Cruise Lines To Work For

Choosing the best cruise line to work for depends on what you’re looking for, as well as your own experience, education and skill set.

Larger cruise ships have more crew members, so there are more job opportunities, while smaller ships have equally smaller teams. However, you do get to know the guests much better and build a rapport with them, which can mean more tips!

There is a huge variety of job roles to apply for on a cruise ship, from working behind the scenes to front of the house, and there’s bound to be something for everyone.

If you’re not sure if it’s for you, take a look at my other blog posts on how much cruise ship workers make and how to get a job on a cruise ship to see if it’s the right choice for you.

I’ve researched the best cruise lines to work for by spending over eight hours studying online forums to see what real cruise ship employees think about their jobs. I’ve also taken a close look at each of the cruise lines’ own career pages to see what they have to offer.

Here are the top five cruise lines to work for, according to their current and past employees…

1. Royal Caribbean

As one of the biggest cruise lines in the industry, Royal Caribbean offers a great package to those seeking to join their team.

The fleet consists of 28 ships and counting and sails across six continents of the world. Royal Caribbean International is owned by Royal Caribbean Group, the umbrella company which owns five other cruise lines as well.

Royal Caribbean's Royal Genie

Benefits of working at Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean offers plenty of benefits for staff members, including cruise discounts for staff and their families, discounts on shore excursions, free accommodation while working aboard, and much more.

There are also crew activities arranged, including parties and sports tournaments, to encourage a fun work environment and allow the crew to enjoy life on board.

Royal Caribbean work contracts

Royal Caribbean contracts vary depending on the role. The Royal Caribbean careers page states that ‘most senior management roles have 4-month contracts while the rest of the positions have 6-8 month contracts.’

As for time off, Royal Caribbean advises that due to the round-the-clock nature of guests on board seven days a week, staff might not get a full 24-hour period off but will still get time to rest, visit ports, and participate in fun events.

Job opportunities vary by department, from hotel, which involves casino, culinary, entertainment, and guest relations, to marine, which comprises electrical, engine, security, and environmental. There are also opportunities within their private destination department.

2. Cunard

Joining a cruise line as a crewmember also means you will learn the ins and outs of the history of the company, and which company could be better for that than the 185-year-old Cunard Line?

Cunard bell boys

This cruise line was founded in 1839 and has grown over the years to become a renowned British cruise line, owned and operated by the largest cruise operator in the world, Carnival Corporation.

Cunard has a fleet of four ships, and sails to countless destinations across Asia, Alaska, Europe, Africa, and, of course, North America, where the famous transatlantic crossing embarks!

Benefits of working at Cunard

Benefits for working at Cunard include access to crew gym and deck privileges, discounts on shore experiences, retail and leisure, learning and development programme to help progress and develop, flights paid for from your home to the ship, free meals and accommodation while you travel the world, plus much more. You can view all of the benefits here.

The company boasts a tight-knit, diverse global team built on offering the White Star Service, which Cunard is known for.

Cunard’s work contracts

Contracts with Cunard vary depending on your role, for example, applicants choosing to work as part of the youth team would have busier contracts over the summer holidays and shorter ones outside, due to peak times.

These can vary between four- or six-month contracts, with two months of leave in between each period you’re at sea.

Job opportunities include ship and ashore vacancies in departments such as medical, finance and marketing. These also vary by contract type, including permanent, full-time, and temporary.

Each of the ships holds a crew of between 977 and 1,246, from roles within entertainment and accommodation to front of house or administration.

3. MSC Cruises

If you’re keen to be involved in the biggest companies in the industry, MSC Cruises is the largest privately-held cruise company, responsible for employing over 23,000 people across the world.

With a fleet of 22 ships and more on the horizon, it’s a great option for those seeking a role within a leading business that is continuing to grow.

MSC crew members

On the MSC Cruises careers site, the cruise line says “MSC Cruises totally embraces cultural diversity for the enrichment it brings our guests, crew and office colleagues. The diversity of our teams is a key element in MSC Cruises’ success.”

Benefits of working at MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises’ work contracts

4. Disney Cruise Line

Everything from social spaces to staterooms is given the Disney flair, including how staff conduct themselves and ensure customers are having a truly magical experience.

Disney Cruise Line waiter

The cruise line has five ships in the fleet, with a further eight in production to join in the coming years. Currently, the ships mainly sail to Alaska, the Caribbean and Europe, depending on the ship.

Some of the things that Disney Cruise Line looks for in an employee include the relevant experience to the role being applied for, as well as a proven passion for quality guest service within a family environment. After all, you and I know this is the bread and butter of what the wider Walt Disney Company offers and the cruise ships are no different!

Benefits of working at Disney Cruise Line

Benefits to working with Disney Cruise Line include discounts on merchandise, experiences and more; complimentary theme park admission for staff and their family; competitive salaries; development opportunities; recognition programs; medical coverage to support health and well-being and much more.

Disney’s work contracts

Contract lengths vary with Disney Cruise Line, starting from three to eight months. The cruise line encourages development and advancing careers while working with them, thanks to the in-depth onboarding and training given in the first few weeks of employment. As roles develop and staff advance with the company, benefits also expand as a result.

You can find all the current job roles available for Disney Cruise Line here.

5. AIDA Cruises

Consistently regarded as one of Germany’s best employers, AIDA Cruises is recognised for its training and development, compensation and benefits and corporate culture. The cruise line is a key choice for those seeking a proven and award-winning company. It’s also a part of the Carnival Corporation.

AIDA crew members

Currently, the cruise line has 11 ships, each of which is aimed at active and young holidaymakers looking to travel across the world.

Benefits of working at AIDA Cruises

The cruise line is one of the few cruise lines that offer EU citizens an employment contract following EU guidelines, including comprehensive social insurance.

Other benefits to working aboard an AIDA cruise ship include recreational activities, including a crew sauna, sundeck, and fitness studio, as well as free Wi-Fi and shore excursions. There’s also a corporate learning tool AIDA Train Me Up, which employees can access at all times to further their careers.

AIDA’s work contracts

Roles with AIDA Cruises typically vary in length, from four to six months. There are three departments to choose from when working aboard AIDA Cruises: guest services, nautics and technics, and entertainment. These include chef de partie, housekeeping, electrician, engineer and camera operations roles.

You can find all the current job roles available for AIDA Cruises here.

Which cruise line pays the best?

The statistics for the best-paying cruise lines are skewed, because cruise lines tend to only release average salaries – so smaller cruise lines, with more senior officers, appear to pay better.

But some of the best paying cruise companies are Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line, Virgin Voyages and ultra-luxury cruise lines like Regent Seven Seas and Silversea.

The bottom line

There’s no right answer for everyone when it comes to choosing the best cruise line to work for. This depends on what you value and how you fit into the culture.

I’d advise applying for multiple roles, as it’s a competitive industry. Huge cruise companies such as the Carnival Corporation and Royal Caribbean Group are umbrellas to multiple cruise lines, so you could even have the option to move around if successful.

Meanwhile, smaller cruise companies are more independent and offer a more family-friendly atmosphere.

While there are differences between ships, and you might want to know the best cruise ship to work for, bear in mind that you likely can’t choose a ship. You can get hired by a cruise line and then they’ll assign you to a ship.

When you’re experienced, you can even move into more luxury or specialist cruise lines, such as expeditions or yacht cruises, which have smaller teams but more indulgent amenities. These typically pay more salary-wise and offer better benefits, as well as visiting off-the-beaten-track destinations.

There is no single standout best cruise line company to work for. No matter which you pick, travelling the world while working is a great perk and one of the reasons 1.8 million people work within the industry!

How to Avoid Roaming Charges on a Cruise (Avoid Those Huge Bills!)

Using your mobile phone while travelling is something that is second nature to many of us. But, when you’re cruising, using your phone can lead to HUGE charges for mobile data roaming at sea.

cruise roaming charges

This is even true if you don’t actually use your phone, but just leave it switched on. Certain apps can run in the background without you knowing, continually refreshing and using your mobile data at sea.

Read on to find out how to avoid a surprise phone bill after your cruise…

Roaming charges explained

Roaming refers to when you use your phone abroad. You’re classed as ‘roaming’ when your phone uses a foreign network that’s different to your normal provider.

Roaming regulations mean that those who choose to use their phone abroad are applicable for roaming charges, and the amount will vary depending on your mobile network. Data roaming refers to internet connections specifically, though roaming also applies to calls and SMS.

Whether you’re opting to use your phone to keep in touch back home or to post your latest food snaps online, it’s worth noting what your network charging rates are before you go abroad.

The cost of using your phone on a cruise

Roaming costs are entirely down to your network’s charges and dependent on your mobile phone provider. From January 2021, when Brexit officially came into action, the rules on data roaming and charges changed.

Since Brexit, UK mobile users no longer automatically enjoy free roaming in the EU. Many providers still included roaming in Europe at no extra cost, but, it’s still wise to inform your network provider to check your destination is covered so you don’t receive any charges.

Roaming costs at sea

When cruising, you’re constantly changing location. Most of the time you’re at sea – whether travelling between ports or crossing an ocean. This is when mobile data roaming can get very expensive as your phone will connect to the maritime network rather than the typical satellites it would connect to while on land.

Your data roaming costs will be incurred by making calls, sending texts, and using data. Fees can be charged per day, per minute charge or even for each chunk of data used.

Some people have truly been caught out by this, thinking that the data roaming charges will be the same on a cruise ship as it is on land. One man from Yorkshire paid extra for a bolt-on roaming package but was still hit with a bill for £340 after his phone connected to the maritime network.

An American lady paid for the ship’s WiFi package as well as an international roaming plan and still got stung with a $2,700 bill. Another unfortunate family got hit by a bill for €12,000 after their 12-year-old son watched some videos while on a cruise to Norway – that’s some hefty maritime network charges for the sake of a bit of boredom!

If you’re looking to avoid data roaming charges altogether, solutions like GigSky provide convenient eSIM data plans tailored for travellers. Click here to visit GigSky and use the discount code CRUISEMUMMY10 for a 10% discount on your plan.

Why cruise roaming costs so much more than on land

While at sea, your phone signal comes through an at-sea provider known as a maritime network. As there are no mobile phone masts at sea, the signal must instead use satellites.

Launching satellites into space is very expensive. The high demand for satellite communication and the limited amount of data that needs to be transmitted means that there is a high cost associated with using WiFi at sea.

If you’re interested in the technical details of how the maritime network works, you can read more about it in this article.

Top tips to prevent roaming charges at sea

Thankfully, there are a few ways in which you can prevent maritime network roaming charges during a cruise.

1. Turn off your phone

The easiest, but by no means the nicest, is to turn off your phone. Pop it in the safe until you reach a port where you can access the network of the country you visit or – better yet – wait until you get home!

2. Use airplane mode

Many of us can’t go more than a few hours without our phones, so it’s more likely you will opt for these other options such as using airplane mode.

Airplane mode (also known as flight mode) simply turns off all data access for your phone, but you can still use it as a device to set alarms or take photos.

phone on airplane mode

3. Use the ship’s WiFi

If you still want to make phone calls, read and respond to text messages, surf the internet and update social media, you should use the ship’s WiFi.

Most cruise lines have WiFi packages either for hourly, daily or unlimited access while at sea. WiFi packages vary by the cruise line and can be pre-paid or added while you’re on the ship.

Don’t miss these hot cruise offers…

The main point to remember…

The key to avoiding data roaming charges on a cruise is always to have your phone on airplane mode as soon as the ship leaves port, whether you use the ship’s WiFi or not. This is the best way to avoid maritime data charges.

As soon as the ship gets a few hundred metres from the coast, your phone could connect to the maritime network and begin racking up charges, even if you’re not actively using it. If someone sends you an email and your phone automatically downloads that, you’ll be billed for it.

texting on a cruise

Alternatives to calls and text messaging on a cruise

If you have a WiFi package on your cruise, you may not be able to use it to make regular telephone calls and send text messages. But, there are some alternatives you can use…

WhatsApp is a great option as it allows instant messaging, including photos and videos, alongside video and audio calls – it works just like a normal call but can be done via wifi.

Skype works much the same, though this is mainly used as a video call application. Facetime is another option that works similarly for iPhone users.

Some people even use walkie-talkies to communicate with their family members on a cruise. Teenagers and older kids particularly like this option as it can be quite fun.

There are many other options to choose from – Just make sure to let those at home know which one to use to keep in touch.

If you want to know how to send text messages for free on your cruise, there are a few different ways to do it. I have a full guide to that here: How to Text on a Cruise Ship for Free.

The bottom line

While data maritime roaming charges sound scary and can rack up a huge bill, as long as you know the steps to prevent it, there are ways you can still enjoy uploading your favourite snaps and calling your family back home.

The key thing to remember is that you never want your phone to connect to the maritime network. Keep it on airplane mode while at sea and if you want to use it for calls, messages, or internet access you should buy a wifi package.

You should also check your network provider’s costs for roaming charges while on land. If these are free in your cruise destinations, you might opt to only use your phone while the ship is in port.

Some providers will also let you set limits for roaming use before you travel, so while you might still be charged a lot for your O2 or Vodafone cruise ship roaming, you can at least control it a little.

Whatever you decide, it’s good to have a plan before you go, whether that includes paying wifi while on board or having a digital detox altogether.

A History of Upping the Connectivity Ante

MedallionNet MaxMedallionNet Max
Majestic Princess

In early 2018, Princess established a new connectivity standard for guests on its cruise ships by smashing the bandwidth-at-sea world record with the initial launch of its MedallionNet connectivity service aboard Regal Princess. At a time when the industry average was 10-20 Mbps per ship, Regal Princess reached 2.25 Gbps, demonstrating there were no practical limits to progressing shipboard connectivity. Since that time, the connectivity landscape has changed dramatically with Starlink, with onboard Wi-Fi increasingly becoming a commodity. However, Princess will continue to ensure connectivity experience differentiation by making it the best value and most hassle-free experience possible.

While MedallionNet Max will only be available within the inclusive Princess Plus and Princess Premier bundles, guests opting to sail with the standard Princess vacation package still will be able to purchase MedallionNet Classic connectivity with no change to pricing.

In addition to premium connectivity, guests opting for the inclusive Princess Plus and Princess Premier will also enjoy popular amenities like beverages, casual dining, desserts, complimentary room service, fitness classes, crew gratuities and more at an even greater savings of up 65% than when the inclusive package amenities are purchased separately.

Windstar Cruises’ 2026 European Voyages Boast 15 Fresh Itineraries And 24 First-Time Ports

Windstar Cruises unveils its 2026 European Voyages with more new ports and itineraries than the line has ever debuted in a single season.

There are 15 brand-new itineraries, 34 first-time ports, a litany of new Star Collector sailings (which combine several itineraries into one epic/longer adventure), and a first-ever Windstar Solar Eclipse. The August 12, 2026, Around Iceland: A Total Solar Eclipse will place Windstar guests in the path of totality.

2026 European Voyages

A new 81-day Star Collector, 2026 Grand Europe Adventure, begins in Helsinki, Finland on July 14, 2026, and visits 20 countries and 67 ports of call before ending in Athens, Greece. Overnight stays for up to 4 days in a single destination and late-night departures allow guests to travel further inland.

The line will also debut new cruise tours from Madrid, allowing guests to explore further inland in Spain; a brand-new circumnavigation of Ireland; a deep dive into the Aeolian Islands; and an exploration of Northern Greece with highlights like the chance to visit the Meteora Monasteries from the port of Volos. A larger sampling of new itineraries is listed below.

To celebrate the news, Windstar is concurrently launching an early booking offer. Those who book a 2026 European cruise by October 31, 2024, will enjoy a complimentary All-Inclusive experience — featuring Wi-Fi, unlimited wine, beer, and cocktails, and all gratuities — plus a $100 onboard credit per stateroom.

“Our year-round cruises in the Mediterranean and Europe have more small-ship-only destinations than ever before,” says Jess Peterson, Windstar’s itinerary planner. “We’ve designed these voyages with a focus on regional exploration, so that means more overnight stays and off-the-beaten-path experiences to help give you a deeper, more genuine look at some of Europe’s best spots.”

New itineraries and ports mean a host of new shore excursions, and Windstar’s team vets every offering to bring a truly special and uniquely local experience to life – like creating molded chocolates in Bruges, Belgium or learning the lyra in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Selected 2026 New Itinerary Highlights

Atlantic France (7 nights): Get an in-depth exploration of France on a single cruise. Embark from Bordeaux and its unmatched wineries before sailing down the Dordogne River to the Atlantic and La Rochelle for feasting on oysters; then to Lorient, which accepts just one ship per day; followed by St. Malo, where a late night makes it easy to also visit Mont Saint-Michel. A mid-cruise jaunt to the UK with a visit to Guernsey in the Channel Islands is an interlude before returning to France and Cherbourg, where one can retrace the footsteps of WWII soldiers at the landing beach sites in Normandy. Finally, there is scenic cruising on the Seine before overnighting in Paris.

Treasure Troves of Corsica & Sardinia (7 nights): Vacation where the Italians and French do on this roundtrip voyage from Rome. Dolphin watching in Golfo Aranci; promenading at sunset on an overnight in Alghero; coastal driving in Bonifacio; wine tasting in Bastia; and exploring Napoleon’s birthplace in Ajaccio are highlights.

Northern Spain & Portugal (8 nights): Leave from Lisbon and end with an overnight in Bordeaux. This sailing gives a chance to explore destinations outside of Portugal and Spain’s major cities with stops in small ports of the Galicia and Asturias regions of Spain (plus an overnight in Bilbao) as well as charming Porto and Lisbon.

Norway’s Southern Splendors (8 nights): Explore little-known fishing ports and scenic inlets along Norway’s southern coastline including charming Rosendal and cozy Egersund, both first-time ports for Windstar. Visit UNESCO World Heritage sites like Urnes Stave Church, savor local cuisine, and marvel at natural wonders like Sognefjord, the majestic “King of Fjords.”

Off-the-Beaten-Path Greek Islands (7 nights): Sail to less popular islands in Greece like Syros, Samos, Naxos, Folegandros, and Milos, enjoying secluded crystalline beaches, hidden harbors, and romantic ruins. Experience a moonlight concert in Ephesus, sample local Muscat wines in Samos, and wander ancient temples.

Tulip Season in Holland & Belgium (7 nights): Breathe in the height of tulip season in Holland, when the fields explode with vibrant colors. Visit the Keukenhof Gardens, explore new-to-Windstar destinations and overnight in Antwerp, whose exclusive seaport accepts only one ship per day. Cyclists will especially enjoy chances for rides in the countryside outside Harlingen.

Bella Italia: A Southern Italian Romance (8 nights): Travel like a local in southern Italy’s Calabria and Puglia regions. Explore the winding lanes of Taranto — a coastal city rich in Greek ruins and medieval fortification — before visiting Otranto’s picturesque harbor and Croatia’s Island of Rab.

Treasures of Southern Spain & Morocco (8 nights): Have a brilliant combination of desirable ports on this Barcelona to Lisbon sailing, including the return of Windstar to Seville. (Windstar is one of the few cruise lines that can do the 50-mile scenic sailing up the Guadalquivir River to access this cultural capital of Southern Spain.) A visit to Tangier, Morocco is another highlight.

Star Collectors are longer voyages combining one or more cruises into a comprehensive voyage of 13+ days with few repeated ports. Windstar’s itinerary planning team selects popular itineraries to link up for longer adventures allowing guests to make the most of their time away. As a bonus, free daily laundry is provided so guests can still pack light.

Marvel-Inspired Experiences Coming To Disney Destiny

Beginning in November 2025, the Disney Destiny will draw on the legacies of Disney’s larger-than-life heroes and villains to forge a legendary cruise vacation steeped in the lore of illustrious Disney stories. The new Disney Cruise Line ship will debut one-of-a-kind venues and experiences that complement the extraordinary entertainment, world-class dining and unparalleled hospitality that make every Disney Cruise Line vacation legendary.

Part of Disney Cruise Line’s unprecedented period of growth and expansion, the Disney Destiny – sister ship to the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure – will sail its maiden voyage from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in November 2025, followed by an inaugural season of four- and five-night cruises to The Bahamas and Western Caribbean, including visits to one or both of Disney Cruise Line’s island destinations, Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members can book a Disney Destiny cruise as early as Sept. 6, 2024, and bookings open to the general public on Sept. 12, 2024. Complete details about the Disney Destiny’s new offerings can be found on the Disney Parks Blog and disneycruise.com.

One-of-a-Kind ‘Heroes and Villains’ Design

For the Disney Destiny, the Disney Cruise Line and Walt Disney Imagineering teams are summoning some of Disney’s most powerful tales of heroism and purpose to forge a first-of-its-kind design theme: “Heroes and Villains.” Onboard, guests will be inspired, encouraged and empowered by heroes and villains alike, universally beloved for their strength of character and distinctive personalities. The ship will be a celebration of the bold, charismatic and driven characters at the heart of the many myths and legends, fairy tales and fantasies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Disney Parks. And, for the first time in Disney Cruise Line history, a Marvel Super Hero will be the signature stern character on the Disney Destiny, with a larger-than-life sculpture of Spider-Man and his Spider-Bots decorating the filigree on the back of the ship.

Legendary Family Dining Experiences

Disney Cruise Line will debut a brand-new family dining experience exclusive to the Disney Destiny, complementing two guest-favorite restaurants from the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure.

The iconic songs and legendary moments of “The Lion King” will come to life at Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, a first-of-its-kind dining experience celebrating the renowned Walt Disney Animation Studios film. As families dine, a colorful ensemble of live musicians and storytellers will take the stage and present a musical journey through the award-winning soundtrack.

Guests will also be invited to an out-of-this-world celebration of Marvel Super Heroes at Worlds of Marvel and to celebrate the legacy of Disney animation at 1923. At Worlds of Marvel, families will eat to the beat of an awesome mix of hit songs and test their knowledge of the Marvel Universe, all as an onscreen story unfolds starring the lively duo of Rocket and Groot from the blockbuster Marvel Studios “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

1923, named for the founding year of The Walt Disney Company, will celebrate the legacy of Disney animation in an elegant setting imbued with classic Hollywood glamour. With more than 1,000 drawings, props and other tools of the animation trade on display, the artwork of 1923 will showcase tales of heroes and villains in “Hercules,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Big Hero 6,” “Wreck-It Ralph.,” and more.

The Disney Destiny will continue Disney Cruise Line’s innovative family dining concept. Guests experience one of three imaginative restaurants each night accompanied by a dedicated service team assigned to their family throughout the voyage.

Families will also enjoy quick, convenient meals and snacks with a variety of dining options, including quick bites, casual dining, 24-hour room service and gourmet cafes — including Café Megara and Café Merida, two new walk-up cafes just off the Grand Hall inspired by Disney Animation’s “Hercules” and Pixar Animation Studios’ “Brave.”

The all-new Edna Á La Mode Sweets will be a one-of-a-kind confectionary where a marvelous selection of handmade gelato, ice cream, cookies, candies and specialty treats will be served from Edna Mode’s lab, where the famed fashion designer whips up outfits for the world’s most famous Supers in Pixar’s “The Incredibles” films.

Epic Entertainment Bringing Disney Lore to Life

Like all Disney Cruise Line ships, the Disney Destiny will offer spectacular entertainment for the whole family. It will debut brand-new experiences and return guest-favorite shows and activities that immerse families in legendary worlds, both real and imagined, through unparalleled Disney storytelling.

The Grand Hall of the Disney Destiny will be its most striking and prominent gathering space. In this living theater, heroes and villains from across the Disney universe take center stage and interact with guests in thrilling ways. Inspired by the rich lore, distinctive iconography, and vibrant palette of Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” films – including a stunning statue of the Black Panther himself at the heart of the space – this kinetic environment will come to life with immersive shows and interactive programming featuring favorite characters from Disney, Marvel and beyond.

Just off the Grand Hall, guests will write their own vacation legends at Saga, a central hub for daytime family activities and adult-exclusive evening entertainment. The two-story, state-of-the-art venue will host various interactive shows and events, including classics like “Match Your Mate” and “Family Time Game Show,” in an elevated environment that takes cues from the architecture of Wakanda.

The Walt Disney Theatre will be an opulent show palace that comes alive with dazzling Broadway-style productions of “Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” and “Disney Seas the Adventure.” The former is a guest-favorite whimsical retelling of the iconic Disney Animation film. At the same time, the latter is an original Disney Cruise Line show featuring Captain Minnie Mouse, Goofy, and a host of beloved Disney and Pixar characters.

Both heroes and villains from across the Disney universe will take center stage aboard the Disney Destiny, including a fearsome assembly of schemers and scoundrels at sea. Guests will encounter formidable foes — including Maleficent, Hades, Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Mr. Smee, and Oogie Boogie — along with some of Disney’s most mischievous and misunderstood personalities, like Loki, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Bruno, through a variety of shows, meet-and-greets and special appearances throughout the ship.

Other guest-favorite entertainment experiences coming to the Disney Destiny will include:

  • Pirate’s Rockin’ Parlay Party, a roguish nighttime spectacular featuring a live rock band and Disney Cruise Line’s famous fireworks at sea;

  • “The Incredibles”-themed family competitions and free-play sports at Hero Zone, a futuristic sports arena where physical activity blends with imagination;

  • Disney Uncharted Adventure, an interactive experience that uses guests’ mobile devices to join favorite Disney and Pixar heroes on virtual quests throughout the ship; and

  • All-you-can-watch complimentary movie showings at the Wonderland and Never Land Cinemas, with daily showings of classic and first-run films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and more.

Wickedly Good Escapes for Adults

Aboard the Disney Destiny, adults will explore, relax, dine and play with venues, offerings and entertainment tailored just for them. Nearly every bar and lounge aboard the ship will feature brand-new designs and menus inspired by the larger-than-life personalities of epic Disney stories, brought to life through elevated interpretation and refined theming.

  • An evening at De Vil’s piano lounge located just off the Grand Hall will be a lavish affair emblematic of the bar’s namesake, the fabulously over-the-top Disney villain Cruella de Vil. Guests will wind down in style with trendy martinis, chic cocktails, and glamorous wines and bubblies in an extravagant atmosphere evoking Cruella’s infamous flair for style, from the Hollywood Regency-inspired aesthetic to the signature color palette of black, white and red.

  • Inspired by the iconic “Pirates of the Caribbean” attractions at Disney Parks around the world, Cask and Cannon will be an eclectic yet cozy pub furnished with “acquired” treasures (read: pillaged and pilfered). Visiting buccaneers will cheer and jeer during live televised sporting events as they indulge in an extensive menu of rare, specialty and vintage rums and a selection of “bootlegged” brews developed specially for the venue and served straight from the barrel in true pirate style.

  • The Sanctum will be Disney Cruise Line’s first lounge inspired by the powerful sorcerers and mystical artifacts of Doctor Strange. The centrally located entertainment parlor will host a variety of activities throughout the voyage, offering guests a magical array of cocktails, spirits and coffees.

  • Foolish mortals will be welcomed to sip spirited craft cocktails among the 999 happy haunts of Disney Parks lore at the Haunted Mansion Parlor. Debuting aboard the Disney Treasure in December 2024, the bar will invoke inspiration from the original theme park attraction with a nautical twist exclusive to Disney Cruise Line.

Adult-exclusive spaces on board the Disney Destiny will also include:

  • A suite of premium dining venues including Palo Steakhouse, combining authentic Italian dining with the refinement of a modern steakhouse; Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement, offering gourmet, French-inspired cuisine in a romantic and intimate atmosphere; and The Rose, an idyllic setting for a pre-dinner aperitif or after-dinner cocktail.
  • Quiet Cove, a peaceful refuge in sun-drenched serenity set away from the bustle of family activities that will feature a luxurious infinity pool, poolside bar and chic café.
  • Senses Spa, a tranquil oasis that will offer indulgent spa and beauty treatments in private treatment rooms, lavish spa villas, and steam and aromatherapy rooms; and Senses Fitness, a state-of-the-art exercise and wellness facility.
  • Untangled Salon, a chic venue for high-end hairstyling and beauty services, and Hook’s Barbery, a unique twist on a traditional men’s salon with a “hidden” bar.

Feats of Fun Under the Sun

Guests are destined to ride, fly, chase the wind and touch the sky on the stunning upper decks of the Disney Destiny, where three distinctly themed districts first introduced aboard the Disney Wish will offer fun water features, quick and casual dining options, and plenty of space to relax and soak up the sun.

In an expansive district themed to Mickey and friends, families will discover seven pools staggered among tiered decks, an abundance of luxe lounge chairs, an imaginative take on fast-casual fare with a festive character twist and a thrilling water attraction, AquaMouse.

  • The Disney Destiny will debut a quirky AquaMouse storyline filled with Disney Animation villains: “Sing a Silly Song.” The new show will exemplify the signature silliness of Mickey Mouse animated shorts as Mickey and Minnie lead guests on a seemingly ominous trek to the peak of Villain Mountain. When faced with some of the most fearsome villains of Disney Animation lore, the duo will employ a silly song — and a bit of pixie dust — to transform each chilling encounter into a wacky surprise.

Little cruisers will delight in a water wonderland themed to Pixar’s “Toy Story” designed especially for families with toddlers and young children, including a splash zone, wading pool, family waterslide and smoothie bar.

‘Main Character Energy’ for Kids, Tweens and Teens
Aboard the Disney Destiny, children will become the heroes of their own epic Disney adventures. Dedicated spaces for kids of all ages will offer imaginative programming facilitated with the care and expertise of Disney-trained counselors and special playtime with Disney friends.

  • Children ages 3 to 10 will enter the captivating worlds of favorite Disney stories at Disney’s Oceaneer Club, a wonderland of immersive spaces themed to Marvel Super Heroes, Disney princesses, Star Wars heroes, Disney Imagineers, and Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

  • It’s a Small World Nursery will offer babysitting services for little cruisers aged 6 months to 3 years in a whimsical environment inspired by the beloved Disney attraction.

  • At Edge, tweens ages 11 to 13 will have fun, make friends and play games in a bright, colorful hangout inspired by a New York City loft.

  • For guests ages 14 to 17, Vibe will be a trendy loft where teens can meet new friends, watch movies, play games and participate in group activities created just for them.

Hero-Worthy Accommodations

With luxurious accommodations that embrace the duality in every great story, a hero’s welcome will be waiting for guests aboard the Disney Destiny. Each stateroom will showcase custom artwork depicting the epic journeys of famous Disney legends, evoking a sense of awe and inspiration as families rest, reconnect and dream of far-off places.

Like every Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Destiny will offer spacious, comfortable and functional staterooms that uniquely meet the needs of families. Most staterooms will feature Disney Cruise Line’s signature split-bath concept, and many will offer the option of a connecting door that adjoins staterooms to accommodate larger groups.

Concierge guests aboard the Disney Destiny will receive a premium level of dedicated service and access to exclusive areas and amenities throughout their voyage, including a concierge lounge and private sun deck. Large, lavishly appointed concierge staterooms and suites will draw guests into the enigmatic world of Disney Animation’s “Fantasia” through elegant, watercolor-style artwork, while seven special oceanview rooms located directly above the bridge and adorned in the distinctive iconography of Pixar’s “The Incredibles” will provide awe-inspiring, floor-to-ceiling views.

In four royal suites of heroic proportions, guests will be empowered by epic stories to embrace their own destinies. Celebrating the majestic powers and noble gallantry at the heart of Disney Animation’s “Hercules,” the Hero Suites will be inspired by Greco-Roman architecture, colors and patterns. The boldly themed IncrediSuites will invoke the exhilarating exploits of “The Incredibles” through a streamlined mid-century modern aesthetic inspired by the Pixar films.

In true Iron Man style, the Destiny Tower Suite will take the Disney Destiny motif to new heights — literally. This opulent Marvel-inspired penthouse will honor Iron Man’s mighty legacy with a luxurious take on the sleek, industrial designs of Tony Stark. Set high in the ship’s forward funnel, this nearly 2,000-square-foot suite will offer incredible views through an expansive two-story window; designated areas for eating, sleeping and playing; and other perks like a full kitchen and private ensuite elevator.

A Legend in the Making

The Disney Destiny will be approximately 144,000 gross tons and powered by liquefied natural gas. Its delivery is part of a multi-year expansion of the Disney Cruise Line fleet that includes the Disney Wish and Disney Treasure; the Disney Adventure that will homeport in Singapore; the recently announced agreement with Disney and Oriental Land Co., Ltd. (OLC) to bring Disney cruise vacations to Japan in 2029; and a new island destination in The Bahamas: Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

Virgin Voyages Introduces Solar Eclipse Voyages And 2026 Marvelous Collection

Virgin Voyages is looking up towards the stars (and sun) as inspiration for the brand’s future voyages. National Geographic reports that astrotourism – wondrous travel escapes for the sole purpose of stargazing – has taken off in recent years. With the next few years expected to deliver some of the most awe-inspiring auroras, solar eclipses, constellations, and comets, Richard Branson’s award-winning, exclusively adult cruise line is introducing its first-ever Eclipse Voyages as part of its newest series: the Marvelous Voyages.

Solar Eclipse Voyages

Stefanie Waldek, a freelance space and travel journalist who writes for Space.com and Travel + Leisure, explained, “A total solar eclipse is one of the most spectacular astronomical phenomena to witness, right up there with the aurora. There’s a reason eclipse chasers travel the world to see them! During the 2026 total solar eclipse, much of the path of totality is over the sea, which makes cruising one of the best ways to catch the show.”

Setting sail in 2026, Travel + Leisure’s No. 1 Mega-Ship Ocean Cruise Line is unveiling a collection of its most iconic and inspiring voyages. Undoubtedly a bucket-list experience, the Eclipse Voyages are set for August 2026, allowing Sailors to cruise toward the path of totality. While these epic 12- and 15-night itineraries are incredible in their right – stops include Dublin, Glasgow, and Reykjavik aboard Valiant Lady, and Amalfi Coast, Mallorca, and Cannes on Scarlet Lady – Virgin Voyages is upping the ante with special onboard events and appearances to mark the spirit of the trip.

Esteemed space explorers and scientists will share the magic of the cosmos. Galactic grandstands outfitted with telescopes and binoculars will transform the ship’s upper decks into observation viewing spaces with astronomers on standby. New moon ceremonies, starry symphonies, and cosmic culinary creations – like Milky Way milkshakes – round out the special programming. Sailors will also snag a pair of solar eclipse shades and a commemorative guide as a fun takeaway.

2026 Marvelous Collection

In addition to the adventurer’s dreamstate, which is the Eclipse Voyages, the brand’s new collection of Marvelous Voyages includes six other sailings between March and August 2026, ranging from eight to 16 nights. Spanning Iceland to Istanbul, the British Isles to The Baltics, the Marvelous Voyages promise wonder and excitement, all with the comforts Virgin’s Sailors love. Twelve new ports are on the docket with highlights that include Salerno (Amalfi Coast, Italy), Edinburgh (Scotland), Stockholm (Sweden), Hamburg (Germany), Oslo (Norway), Tangier (Morocco), and eventually Greenland.

Michelle Bentubo, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Voyages, said, “We already sail to more than 100 international ports, but our itineraries are ever-evolving based on what our Sailors and travel partners are asking for. We’ve graduated from only offering short Caribbean escapes and weekender voyages to give our Sailors longer itinerary options of up to 14 nights at more ports worldwide. Our Marvelous Voyages, paired with Brilliant Lady’s epic itineraries across all four corners of the US, shows the growth and strength of this monumental brand and the choice we are committed to offering.”

Travelers are encouraged not to wait as the brand is already experiencing record bookings for 2025 after its 2024 sold-out summer season in the Med and Caribbean. Loyalty Sailors will have first dibs on these off-the-beaten-path adventures, with inventory opening Aug. 14-21 depending on loyalty status.

General inventory will be released between Aug. 21 and Sept. 18. To learn more, travelers can visit www.VirginVoyages.com or contact their First Mate.

Michelle Bentubo, Chief Operating Officer at Virgin Voyages, said the following:

“We already sail to more than 100 international ports, but our itineraries are ever-evolving based on what our Sailors and travel partners are asking for. We’ve graduated from only offering short Caribbean escapes and weekender voyages to give our Sailors longer itinerary options up to 14 nights at more ports around the world.”

“Our Marvelous Voyages, paired with Brilliant Lady’s epic itineraries across all four corners of the US, just shows the growth and strength of this monumental brand and the choice we are committed to offering.”

Virgin’s most loyal cruisers will be the first to book these longer cruises. They will open for bookings August 14-21, 2024 depending on a guest’s loyalty status.

The sailings will open to the general public between August 21 and September 18, 2024.
