One of Virgin Voyages’ adults only cruise ships has returned to service after receiving eight updates during a recent dry dock.

Valiant Lady is back in service with new dining, redesigned spaces, and new entertainment all around the ship. From the Red Room, The Manor, The Roundabout, The Perch, dining venues and late-night social spaces, there’s over 20 new happenings on the ship.

New Updates on Valiant Lady

Ariya by Razzle Dazzle – Virgin Voyages continues to lead the industry in dining and it’s even more evident now with Ariya, a modern Indian culinary sanctuary developed with Indie Culinaire and acclaimed chef Maneet Chauhan.

The restaurant seats 220 Sailors in a striking space inspired by India’s spice markets, with a menu that travels the length of the country. It has everything from Lamb Shank Biryani to Puffed Rice and Avocado Chaat. There are also cocktails built from the same regional influences.

It’s named after Sir Richard Branson’s great-great-grandmother, a Tamil Nadu traveler who believed food could cross oceans more easily than language. Ariya adds soul, color and story to the ship’s already award-winning dining lineup.

The Athletic Club – One of the most popular spots on the ship during sea days, The Athletic Club now has new shaded daybed clusters and updated lounge seating that face the ocean to bring more comfort, shade and room.

The Roundabout – The center of entertainment on the ship, the Roundabout on Valiant Lady’s signature has new furniture groupings.

Grounds Club Too – The coffee shop located in The Galley still serves Intelligentsia Coffee all day. However at night, Grounds Club Too now evolves into a full bar from late afternoon onward.

The Manor – The raised platforms have been removed, opening up the dance floor and giving the room the space it always deserved. The ship’s nightclub now allows more freedom, movement and late-night electricity.

On the Rocks – The stage at On the Rocks has been relocated to help improve sightlines across the ship’s center bar, and also now has additional seating.

The Dock – A new stage setup and windscreen will help outdoor performances more comfortable in changing conditions.

Retail – TAG and Pandora join the onboard shop lineup, while the VV Brand shop moves into a bigger, more prominent space.

Nirmal Saverimuttu, CEO of Virgin Voyages, gave the following statement:

“Valiant Lady was already one of the most compelling ships at sea, but we kept asking ourselves how to make her even more worth coming back for.

“The best transformations don’t come from smooth sailing but from listening, pushing further and creating something truly special. From Ariya to The Manor to a completely reimagined lineup of Happenings, Valiant Lady returns with a new energy our Sailors will feel immediately. Every one of our 1,300+ Crew has been through The Virgin Way, and that reignited culture is the linchpin to the service Sailors keep coming back for.”

Explora Journeys’ EXPLORA III Passes Major Milestone With Successful Sea Trials

EXPLORA III has successfully completed her sea trials in the Mediterranean, representing another important milestone in the continued expansion of Explora Journeys’ ultra-elegant fleet. The successful sea trials validated the ship’s technical and operational performance ahead of her summer debut and marked the next chapter in the brand’s long-term vision to redefine luxury ocean travel.

EXPLORA III is the first LNG-powered ship in the fleet, and it provides the flexibility to utilize renewable fuels such as bio-LNG and synthetic LNG, alongside continued innovation and energy efficiency.

With all six ships now in different phases of development — spanning operation, construction and future delivery — Explora Journeys has reached the halfway point of its planned six-ship fleet expansion, continuing to advance its long-term vision with responsible growth at its core.

“The completion of EXPLORA III’s sea trials marks another proud milestone for Explora Journeys as we continue to bring our long-term fleet vision to life,” said Anna Nash, President of Explora Journeys. “EXPLORA III represents the next phase in our growth and reflects our continued commitment to thoughtful innovation, exceptional guest experiences and a conscious approach to luxury ocean travel. As the first LNG-powered ship in our fleet, she also marks an important step in our transition towards lower-emission technologies, supporting our pathway to net zero greenhouse gas emissions for our maritime operations by 2050. This summer, Explora Journeys will have three ships sailing – a significant milestone that reflects the strength of our vision and the remarkable momentum behind the brand.”

Following her successful sea trials, the ship has returned to Fincantieri’s Sestri Ponente shipyard near Genoa for interior outfitting and final finishing touches. On track for her delivery, ahead of schedule, EXPLORA III will begin her inaugural season with the Mediterranean Prelude Journey departing on July 24, 2026, arriving in Barcelona for her official naming ceremony on August 1, 2026. Two days later, her seven-night Maiden Journey will take her to Lisbon, marking the beginning of a refined Northern European season through culturally rich destinations and striking landscapes.

Across the remainder of her highly anticipated inaugural season, EXPLORA III will journey through the majestic fjords of Norway, Iceland and Greenland before crossing the Atlantic to explore the vibrant autumn landscapes of New England and Canada’s East Coast, with each itinerary designed to offer a distinctive perspective on luxury ocean travel.

Valiant Lady Emerges Reimagined Ahead Of Her Next Adventure

Valiant Lady is back—and she’s returning from dry dock with a fresh look, just in time for the European summer season.

Virgin Voyages’ second Lady Ship has emerged renewed, reimagined, and more vibrant than ever, featuring new dining experiences, refreshed public spaces, and more than 20 new Happenings designed to bring fresh energy to every corner of the ship. From daytime gatherings to late-night entertainment, Sailors can expect an even more immersive onboard experience.

The transformation goes beyond the physical upgrades. More than 1,300 crew members completed an enhanced “Virgin Way” culture program, reinforcing the brand’s signature focus on service, connection, and fun. The result is a ship that feels even more welcoming, engaging, and unmistakably Virgin from the moment guests step aboard.

With refreshed venues, new experiences, and an energized crew, Valiant Lady is ready to turn heads once again as she sails into her next chapter.

From the Mediterranean this summer to San Juan this fall, Valiant Lady returns with fresh ways to eat, drink, gather, move and stay out later than ever before. The result is a ship that feels more connected, social and alive — one where returning Sailors will notice the difference right away, and first-timers will understand immediately what makes Virgin Voyages feel so different once they’re onboard.

“Valiant Lady was already one of the most compelling ships at sea, but we kept asking ourselves how to make her even more worth coming back for,” said Nirmal Saverimuttu, CEO of Virgin Voyages. “The best transformations don’t come from smooth sailing but from listening, pushing further, and creating something truly special.

What’s New Aboard Valiant Lady

  • Ariya by Razzle Dazzle – At the heart of the transformation is Ariya, a modern Indian culinary sanctuary developed with Indie Culinaire and acclaimed chef Maneet Chauhan. It seats 220 Sailors in a striking space inspired by India’s spice markets, with a menu that travels the length of the country — from Lamb Shank Biryani to Puffed Rice and Avocado Chaat — alongside cocktails built from the same regional influences. Named for Sir Richard Branson’s great-great-grandmother, a Tamil Nadu traveler who believed food could cross oceans more easily than language, Ariya adds soul, color and story to the ship’s already award-winning dining lineup.
  • The Athletic Club – New shaded daybed clusters and updated lounge seating oriented toward the ocean bring more comfort, shade and room to exhale in one of Valiant Lady’s most-loved outdoor spaces.
  • The Roundabout – Refreshed in Valiant Lady’s signature plum with new furniture groupings, The Roundabout now feels like the kind of place Sailors claim early and keep coming back to.
  • Grounds Club Too – Still serving Intelligentsia Coffee all day, Grounds Club Too now evolves into a full bar from late afternoon onward — an easy pre-dinner ritual and a low-key landing spot after a show.
  • The Manor – The raised platforms have been removed, opening up the dance floor and giving the room the space it always deserved — with more freedom, movement and late-night electricity.
  • On the Rocks – A relocated stage improves sightlines across the ship’s center bar, with additional seating and reason to settle in.
  • The Dock – A new stage setup and windscreen make outdoor performances more comfortable in changing conditions, protecting the sunset-to-starlight magic that makes The Dock such a Sailor favorite.
  • Retail – TAG and Pandora join the onboard shop lineup, while the VV Brand shop moves into a bigger, more prominent space that reflects just how much the brand, and the love around it, has grown.

What’s Playing: More Than 20 New Ways to Feel the Voyage

Valiant Lady’s refreshed entertainment lineup is built around a simple idea: the ship should never feel like one thing. Sailors will discover more than 20 new Happenings events led by our cast of characters who blow up the traditional cruise director role. Across the Red Room, The Manor, The Roundabout, The Perch, dining venues and late-night social spaces, from big-stage crowd moments to intimate experiences that feel like the secret party you stumbled into. The goal is bigger laughs, louder rooms, slower rituals, stronger connections and another reason to say yes to one more thing before calling it a night.

In the Red Room, new main-stage moments bring high-impact, audience-powered energy into the heart of the ship. Sink or Swim turns the theater into a high-stakes game show where every decision pushes Sailors closer to reward or disaster, while Sports Smarts blends sports trivia with physical challenges for a fast, loud, highly participatory takeover. In The Manor, Pay Attent!on broadcasts unpredictable vintage TV game show vibes, and Nice Box! unpacks mystery retail in a way only the Diva could. These can’t miss moments in the new Happenings slate serve up bigger reveals, bigger laughs and maximum vibes.

After dark, the energy shifts into something bolder, messier and more deliciously social. Concepts like Dirty Laundry turn strangers into teammates, secrets into conversation starters and the room itself into the show, while Off the Record is a high-stakes social strategy game of secrets and betrayal. These aren’t passive sit-and-watch moments, they’re character-driven, Sailor-led experiences built to help people loosen up, laugh harder and leave with new shipmates.

The new lineup also leans into Virgin Voyages’ food-and-drink credentials with flavor-first Happenings led by The Foodie that feel unmistakably Virgin:

  • Extra Virgin: Aperitivo Club explores classic spritzes, premium olive oils, and the art (and science) behind pasta pairings.
  • Trust Your Tongue tests unconventional culinary combos while rating and ranking these unusual flavors at Test Kitchen.
  • Espresso Yourself pours three espresso martinis, live music, and coffee-inspired art, into a tasting that becomes more than just a drink.
  • Sweet Aft Matcha invites Sailors to get their whisk on while sampling the rich history, flavor pairings and versatile delights of matcha.

The point is not just to fill the calendar, it is to make every venue feel like it has a pulse.

For Sailors looking for something softer or more restorative, the slate expands into daytime creativity and wellness. Silent Sweat offers a headphone-led reset at The Perch, VHS Volume 2: The Great British Burn Off brings Britpop irreverence to fitness, and hands-on concepts like Upcycle Club, Knot Today and Hooked turn reclaimed materials, ropework and crochet into tactile take-home memories.

For those who want a little more edge to their sea day, Extra! Extra! turns strange headlines and surprising stories into a fast-paced newsroom of creative chaos, while Check, Please brings Sir Richard Branson’s lifelong love of chess to sea in a social tournament format that is equal parts strategy and spectacle, and Knees Up pours a pint of a proper pub quiz at sea. Elsewhere, Destination Unknown, Stargazers, Till Bar Do Us Part-y and Sun Society give the ship even more range, from map-based adventure and mythmaking under the stars to poolside glamour where leisure is practiced with intention.

Where She’s Sailing

Valiant Lady’s upcoming seasons are as expansive as her glow-up, beginning with the Italian Grand Tour, French Riviera and Ibiza. Her Northern Explorer series sails from Amsterdam through Iceland, while a special Total Eclipse of the Med itinerary gives Sailors the rare chance to experience totality on open water. In October, she repositions to San Juan for six- to eight-night Caribbean sailings through April 2027.

Valiant Lady is sailing now — renewed, more personal and ready for what comes next. For returning Sailors, this is more than a comeback. It is a ship stepping into her next era with fair winds, fresh energy and more reasons than ever to come back aboard.

An All-American Culinary Menu

From backyard barbecue favorites to nostalgic summer desserts, Holland America’s July 4 culinary experiences are inspired by the classic flavors Americans enjoy on Independence Day. For dinner, Lido Market will feature an all-American barbecue celebration with favorites such as dry-rubbed beef, smoked barbecue pork ribs, hamburgers, hot dogs, broiled salmon with pico de gallo, Texas vegetarian chili, and chicken gumbo soup, along with classic sides including three-bean salad, coleslaw, and potato salad. Desserts will include American Flag Cake, blueberry pie, New York cheesecake, Boston cream pie, and no-sugar-added strawberry shortcake.

Independence Day-inspired beverage specials available across the fleet include:

Departing from Boston, Massachusetts, July 4, 2026, the “Stars & Stripes” cruise will feature a late-night sailaway, allowing guests to witness the city’s historic fireworks display from sea. The celebration continues on board with a patriotic deck party featuring live music and passed hors d’oeuvres with classic American picnic favorites like mini hot dogs with relish, Southern crab cakes with remoulade, mini cheeseburger sliders, and red, white and blue berry tartlets.

Below Deck Star Rachel Hargrove Brings Signature Flavors To Emerald Cruises

Emerald Cruises & Tours is teaming up with one of the most recognizable personalities in the yachting world for a unique culinary experience at sea. Celebrity chef and former Below Deck star Rachel Hargrove will host an exclusive Caribbean sailing aboard Emerald Sakara from December 13–20, 2026.

The voyage marks the launch of a new multi-year partnership between Chef Rachel and Emerald Cruises, bringing her signature culinary flair and engaging personality to both the line’s luxury yachts and river cruise fleet. Guests can look forward to immersive food-focused experiences, special events, and unforgettable dining moments as part of this exciting collaboration.

Emerald Sakara

The newly announced 8-day “Culinary Collection” sailing aboard Emerald Sakara will combine Emerald Cruises’ intimate luxury yacht experience with chef-led culinary programming, destination-inspired dining, and highly personalized guest interaction throughout the voyage. Sailing through the Leeward Islands, the itinerary will visit some of the Caribbean’s most sought-after destinations, including Saint Barthélemy, Martinique, Guadeloupe, and Antigua, offering guests an immersive blend of luxury travel, island culture, and elevated cuisine.

The sailing represents a significant milestone for Chef Rachel, whose career has largely centered around elite private yachting and ultra-luxury culinary experiences for small groups at sea. Through her partnership with Emerald Cruises, she will now bring that same level of precision, creativity, and storytelling to a broader luxury travel audience while maintaining the intimacy and elevated standards that define yacht hospitality.

“What immediately stood out to me about Emerald was the intention behind the guest experience,” said Chef Rachel Hargrove. “There is a real focus on intimacy, destination and thoughtful luxury, whether on the yachts or the rivers. That aligns perfectly with how I approach food. It should feel personal, immersive, and connected to where you are in the world.”

Chef Rachel Hargrove

Known globally for her appearances on Bravo’s Below Deck franchise, Chef Rachel built her reputation through decades of culinary training, international travel, and high-pressure luxury yachting environments where precision, adaptability, and guest satisfaction are paramount. Emerald Cruises’ intimate yacht setting provides a natural extension of that background, allowing for deeper guest interaction, destination-driven menus, and highly curated onboard experiences.

“Most of my career has been in the private yachting world, cooking at the highest level for very small groups of guests,” continued Hargrove. “This is one of the first times I’ve been able to translate that level of precision and personalization into a broader luxury travel setting. Emerald allows me to create meaningful guest experiences at scale without losing the craftsmanship or intimacy that defines luxury yachting.”

Throughout the voyage, guests can expect specially curated culinary experiences inspired by the destinations visited along the itinerary, alongside interactive elements designed to foster a connection between Chef Rachel and guests onboard. Experiences are expected to include live cooking demonstrations, intimate culinary conversations, specialty tastings, and destination-inspired menu storytelling.

From a chef’s perspective, Emerald Cruises’ luxury yachts offer a uniquely balanced culinary environment that is rarely found in the cruise industry. Intimate guest counts enable elevated quality and personalized service, while the yacht’s design and marina-style atmosphere create opportunities for immersive dining experiences closely tied to each destination.

“Food shouldn’t just be served, it should be experienced,” said Hargrove. “Flavor always comes first, but storytelling and guest interaction elevate everything. I want guests to understand where ingredients come from, what region inspired a dish and why it matters. When people feel connected to the food, it becomes something they remember long after the voyage ends.”

The December 2026 sailing aboard Emerald Sakara marks the first officially announced voyage in Chef Rachel’s new partnership with Emerald Cruises. Additional culinary-themed sailings across both Emerald Yacht Cruises and Emerald River Cruises are planned for 2027 and 2028, with further details to be announced in the coming months.

Cruise Ships Return to U.S. Port for the First Time in Over 20 years

A cruise ship will arrive in Buffalo, New York today which will mark the official return of cruising to the city for the first time in decades.

Buffalo cruise terminal
Rendering of the new cruise terminal that is being built in Buffalo.

The U.S. flagged American Patriot will be docked in Buffalo until May 30 at a temporary berth at the Erie Street Dock. A transformative new cruise terminal will be built at Outer Harbour for future itineraries.

American Cruise Lines will have seven cruises that embark and disembark in Buffalo this year. This also marks the first time in decades that a U.S. flagged ship will offer domestic cruises in the Great Lakes market.

Their eight-night Great Lakes & Thousand Islands Cruise operates between Syracuse and Buffalo and explores the Thousand Islands, Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. The cruise line’s signature, 800-mile, 13-night American Great Lakes Cruise sails between Buffalo and Milwaukee, Wisconsin and explores Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan.

Buffalo will also serve as both an embarkation and disembarkation port for American’s 2026 Great Lakes cruises, and they offer an included hotel stay on all their U.S. cruises.

Governor Hochul gave the following statement about cruise ships returning to Buffalo:

“Today we are embarking on a new chapter for Buffalo’s waterfront. As we welcome the American Patriot, we are bringing new visitors, new revenue, and a new sense of pride to Buffalo.

“This is the first of many arrivals that will showcase our world-class cultural institutions like the AKG and the Darwin Martin House to travelers from across the country. We are proving once again that Buffalo is a premier destination, and with our future cruise terminal on the horizon, the best is yet to come for the Great Lakes.”

American Cruise Lines President & CEO Charles B. Robertson added:

“American Cruise Lines is looking forward to calling on Buffalo with our small ship, American Patriot.” Buffalo’s investment in its waterfront inspires us to continue investing in our fleet on the Great Lakes. We are honored to be the first U.S. cruise line to visit Buffalo regularly and look forward to a growing partnership with the city.”
