Carnival Investigates Potential Data Breach Affecting Millions Of Cruisers

Carnival Corporation is investigating a potential cyber attack after a hacking group claimed it had stolen more than 8.7 million records linked to the cruise giant.

The group, known as ShinyHunters, has listed Carnival Corporation & plc on a data leak site and says it has obtained a large collection of personal and internal corporate data. The company has not confirmed whether the data is genuine but says it is taking the claim seriously.

If the breach is verified, the records could relate to guests and employees across multiple cruise brands owned by Carnival Corporation.

Carnival Responds To Alleged Breach

Carnival Corporation said it became aware of suspicious online activity involving one user account and acted quickly to shut it down.

A spokesperson for the company said law enforcement has been notified and cybersecurity specialists are now helping to review the situation.

“After detecting unauthorized online activity involving a single user account, we acted quickly to shut it down and block any further unauthorized access and have notified law enforcement.

“Data privacy and protection are extremely important to Carnival Corporation and we’re working closely with trusted global security experts to be thoughtful and deliberate in our review of the data involved, recognizing that anonymous reports circulating online are not always accurate.

“If we determine personal information was affected, we will follow all disclosure requirements and communicate directly with any impacted individuals.“

The hacking group reportedly issued a “pay or leak” ultimatum demanding payment in exchange for keeping the information private. The deadline for that threat expired on 21st April 2026.

Millions Of Records Potentially Exposed

Security researchers say the dataset linked to the breach could contain approximately 8.7 million records, including about 7.5 million unique email addresses.

Some early analysis suggests that part of the information may be connected to the Mariner Society loyalty programme operated by Holland America Line, which is one of Carnival Corporation’s cruise brands.

The Holland America Veendam cruise ship, featuring its dark hull and white superstructure, glides by a coastline bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun.

Data involved in breaches like this can vary widely but often includes names, email addresses, booking histories, loyalty programme information and contact details. In more serious cases, financial data or travel documentation details may also be exposed.

Cybersecurity experts have warned that stolen information can sometimes be used in scams, phishing attempts or identity theft.

Part Of Wider Hacking Campaign

The Carnival claims are part of a broader cyber campaign by ShinyHunters targeting dozens of major organisations around the world.

Reports indicate the group recently published data connected to more than 40 companies, including major retail, financial and hospitality brands.

Unlike traditional ransomware groups that lock computer systems, ShinyHunters often focuses on stealing data and threatening to release it publicly if victims refuse to pay.

Previous Cyber Incidents

This would not be the first cybersecurity incident affecting Carnival Corporation. In 2020, Carnival Corporation disclosed a breach that exposed some personal data connected to guests and employees.

The incident resulted in a $1.25 million settlement and prompted the company to introduce additional security measures.

More recently, the company has also dealt with technical issues affecting online systems. In February 2026, guests reported problems accessing parts of Carnival’s website and booking services, while an email system glitch earlier in April sent repeated promotional messages to some customers.

Those issues are not believed to be related to the current investigation.

For now, travellers who have sailed with any Carnival Corporation brand are being advised to remain cautious and monitor their accounts for unusual activity while the company continues its investigation.

Crew Member Reported Overboard From Norwegian Breakaway Off Massachusetts Coast

A crew member from Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Breakaway has gone overboard off the coast of Massachusetts while the ship was returning from a cruise to Bermuda.

The incident happened late on the evening of 25th April 2026 as the vessel sailed towards Boston. Security camera footage reportedly showed the crew member falling from the ship into the Atlantic Ocean around 12 miles off Wellfleet on Cape Cod.

Passengers on board were alerted to the emergency through a ship-wide man overboard announcement. According to witnesses, lifeboats were launched and the ship stopped while crews began searching the surrounding waters.

The Norwegian Breakaway was nearing the end of a 7-night Bermuda cruise and was due to arrive in Boston the following morning.

Search Operation Launched Overnight

Ship tracking data shows the vessel changed course at around 11:55 p.m. local time to begin a search and rescue operation. The ship remained in the area for roughly four hours before continuing towards Boston.

The U.S. Coast Guard joined the search after receiving the report from the ship. A rescue helicopter arrived just after 1:15 a.m., while crews from Coast Guard Station Provincetown were also deployed.

Another helicopter launched later on the morning of 26th April to continue the effort. However, the Coast Guard later confirmed that the search had been suspended just after midday pending any new information.

Helicopter evacuation

Passengers arriving in Boston were informed about the situation in a letter from the cruise line explaining the delay.

“Overnight and into the early morning hours, the ship remained engaged in search and rescue efforts following a man overboard situation, working closely with maritime authorities,” the letter said. “These efforts required the vessel’s full attention before the voyage could safely resume toward Boston. Situations such as these are never easy, and the safety and well-being of those at sea remain at the heart of every decision we make.”

The ship eventually docked at Boston’s Black Falcon Terminal shortly before noon on Sunday. Embarkation for the next cruise was delayed later that afternoon due to the late arrival.

Passenger Describes Overnight Search

Some guests on board said they noticed unusual activity overnight as the search began.

Rebecca Durandisse, a passenger from Needham, Massachusetts, described waking during the operation.

“It’s very heartbreaking. This morning they ended up saying that someone went over, a crew went over the ledge,” she said. “I was in my estate room, lying in bed. I was drifting off to sleep when I noticed a light go on that woke me up, because I had my window open. And then I heard some loud noises.”

Authorities have not released the identity of the crew member, and it is not yet known what led to the fall.

Background On Overboard Incidents

Overboard incidents on cruise ships remain rare but they do occur several times each year across the global cruise fleet.

Cruise industry researcher Dr Ross Klein has previously recorded more than 400 overboard incidents from cruise ships since the year 2000, involving both passengers and crew members.

Investigations into such cases typically rely on security footage, witness reports and ship data to determine what happened. Cruise ships are also required under the Cruise Vessel Security and Safety Act to use technology capable of capturing images or detecting people who fall overboard where such systems are available.

At the time of writing, Norwegian Cruise Line has not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.

How Much is Wi-Fi on Cruise Ships? Cruise Lines Compared

Can you really get Wi-Fi on a cruise ship? Absolutely, yes. Is it as fast and reliable as it is at home? Not yet, but thanks to a massive industry shift toward Starlink technology, we are getting closer than ever.

Internet access on a cruise is quickly becoming just as seamless as connecting from your living room.

*Last updated April 2026 to reflect fleet-wide Starlink rollouts and new pricing.

On the many cruise ships I’ve sailed on, I’ve experienced both blazing fast internet and speeds so slow they were practically unusable. However, the days of frustratingly slow “dial-up” speeds at sea are finally fading into the rearview mirror.

Cruise lines realize how important it is for their passengers to stay connected. Whether it’s for work, social media, or just peace of mind, high-speed Wi-Fi is now a top priority for travelers.

Uploading photos of your trip, using messaging apps, and checking in on loved ones is easier than ever. With modern streaming plans, you can even keep up with your favorite shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney Plus. Even video calls are now clear and reliable on most modern vessels.

In this article we will cover everything you need to know about Wi-Fi on a cruise ship in 2026, including the latest pricing for major cruise lines.

carnival horizon in portmiami

How does Wi-Fi on a cruise ship work?

Most cruise ships get Wi-Fi through satellite technology. Traditionally, this meant using satellites in high Earth orbit, which resulted in “latency” (that annoying delay when you click a link).

Today, the industry has shifted to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites, specifically SpaceX’s Starlink. Because these satellites are much closer to Earth, the signal travels faster, providing speeds that feel much more like your home fiber or cable connection.

Ships are equipped with multiple antennas to receive these signals, which are then distributed throughout the ship via routers. While you’ll find the best signal in public areas, most modern ships now provide strong coverage right in your stateroom.

The Starlink Revolution

Starlink has been the ultimate game-changer for cruise ship internet. What started as a pilot program on a few ships has now become the industry standard. Major players like Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Virgin Voyages have rolled out Starlink fleet-wide.

Because Starlink uses a massive constellation of satellites, coverage is more consistent even in remote areas like Alaska or the middle of the Atlantic. It has allowed cruise lines to move away from restrictive “data caps” and offer true unlimited streaming packages that actually work.

Using Wi-Fi on a ship without paying for a package

Even if you don’t want to pay for a Wi-Fi plan, you should still keep your phone’s Wi-Fi turned on and connect to the ship’s network. This allows you to use the cruise line’s mobile app for free.

In 2026, these apps are essential. You’ll use them to:

  • View the daily schedule of events
  • Make specialty dining reservations
  • Book shore excursions
  • View your onboard account balance
  • Message other passengers on the ship (sometimes for a small one-time fee)

Cost of Wi-Fi for Main Cruise Lines (2026 Pricing)

Pricing for Wi-Fi has stabilized, but it is generally higher than it was a few years ago. Most lines offer a discount if you purchase your package through the cruise planner before you sail.

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival typically offers three tiers with an additional multi-device plan. Prices below reflect the pre-purchase discount:

  • Social Wi-Fi Plan ($20.40 per day): Access to popular social sites and airline apps only. No general web browsing or email.
  • Value Wi-Fi Plan ($23.80 per day): General web surfing and email. Does not support video streaming.
  • Premium Wi-Fi Plan ($25.50 per day): The fastest tier, supporting Starlink-backed streaming and video calls.
  • Multiple Device Wi-Fi Plan ($90.00 per day): Starting at this rate for up to four devices.

Royal Caribbean International

Royal Caribbean uses VOOM powered by Starlink. They have simplified their pricing but remember it’s dynamic.  This means the price may be higher or lower than what you see below but these are rough averages.

Always check your cruise planner early to see an exact price and lock down a rate.

  • VOOM Surf & Stream (about $28.99 per day): The standard single-device rate. Supports high-speed streaming, video calls, and social media.
  • Multiple Device VOOM Plan ($52.00 per day): This is the “2-Device” rate; a 4-Device plan typically starts around $80.00 per day ($20/device).

Norwegian Cruise Line

NCL offers “Free at Sea” promotions that often include a limited number of Wi-Fi minutes. For unlimited access:

  • Unlimited Wi-Fi Pass ($29.99 per day): General web browsing, email, and social media. Does not support streaming.
  • Unlimited Streaming Wi-Fi Pass ($39.99 per day): Includes all streaming services (Netflix, etc.) plus VPN access.
  • Multiple Device Streaming Plan ($84.99 per day): Covers up to four devices on the streaming tier.

Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity encourages the “All Included” fare, but if you buy separately:

  • Basic Wi-Fi Plan ($20.00 per day): Suitable for messaging and email only. (Note: Only available as an “included” perk; if buying a-la-carte, you are usually pushed to Premium).
  • Premium Wi-Fi Plan ($35.00 per day): Full Starlink speeds for streaming and video calls. Pre-purchase often drops this to $27.00.
  • Multiple Device Premium Plan ($53.00 per day): The discounted rate for two devices under one account.

Princess Cruises

Princess has introduced “MedallionNet Max” as their highest tier.

  • MedallionNet Classic ($24.99 per day): Reliable for basic browsing and social media on one device.
  • MedallionNet Max ($44.99 per day): The highest priority bandwidth, usually bundled into Princess Plus/Premier.
  • Multiple Device Classic Plan ($44.99 per day): Covers up to four devices on the Classic tier.

MSC Cruises

MSC almost exclusively sells Wi-Fi as a full-voyage package rather than daily.

  • Browse Cruise Plan ($16.00 per day): Basic browsing and 24/7 chat (WhatsApp/iMessage).
  • Browse & Stream Plan ($21.00 per day): Supports video streaming and video chat for one device.
  • Multiple Device Browse & Stream ($45.00 per day): Rate for two devices for the duration of the cruise.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin remains a leader in value here: Basic Wi-Fi is complimentary for all sailors. If you want to stream or use high-bandwidth apps, you can upgrade to “Premium” for about $15 per day (or it’s included if you’re in a Mega RockStar Quarters).

Tips for saving money on Cruise Wi-Fi

  • Book Early: Almost every cruise line offers a 10% to 20% discount if you buy your Wi-Fi package online before your cruise starts.
  • Share a multi-device plan: It is almost always cheaper to buy one “4-device” plan and split the cost with your cabin-mates than it is to buy four “1-device” plans.
  • Check your loyalty status: High-tier past guests (like Platinum on Carnival or Diamond on Royal Caribbean) often get free Wi-Fi minutes or significant discounts.
  • Leverage T-Mobile or International Plans: If you have an international plan, wait until you are in port to do your “heavy lifting” (updates, large uploads) on the local cellular network for free.

FAQ on Wi-Fi on a Cruise Ship

Can I use a VPN on the cruise ship?

With the move to Starlink, VPN support has improved significantly. However, most lines still only support VPNs on their highest “Premium” or “Streaming” tiers. Even then, some corporate VPNs may struggle with the ship’s firewall settings.

Can I bring my own Wi-Fi hotspot?

A personal cellular hotspot will only work when you are close to land. Once the ship is about 10-12 miles out at sea, your hotspot will lose signal. Satellite-based personal hotspots are extremely expensive and generally not permitted for use on the ship’s open decks.

What happens if I don’t use Airplane Mode?

This is the most important rule: Turn on Airplane Mode the moment the ship leaves the dock. If you don’t, your phone will connect to “Cellular at Sea.” This is NOT part of your land-based data plan and can result in roaming charges of $10 or more per megabyte.

Can you text without Wi-Fi?

If you have an iPhone and both you and the recipient are on the ship’s Wi-Fi, iMessage usually works even on “Basic” plans. For Android users, apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger are the most reliable. Most cruise apps also offer an onboard “Chat” feature for a small flat fee (around $5-$10 per cruise).

Search Called Off for Norwegian Breakaway Crew Member After Ship Returns to Boston

The atmosphere on the 3,900-passenger Norwegian Breakaway late Saturday night became “eerily quiet,” as one passenger described it, when the captain confirmed a “Code Oscar” on the port side.

After the captain of the Boston-based cruise ship made the announcement that a crew member had gone overboard, the return back to port became a search and rescue mission that spanned more than 12 hours.

Norwegian Breakaway cruise ship

According to news reports, the emergency was triggered roughly 12 miles east of Wellfleet, Massachusetts, just before midnight on April 25.

Security footage on the ship confirmed that a 26-year-old male crew member, who worked as a cook on the upper decks, climbed over a railing and went overboard into the Atlantic.

This visual confirmation allowed the bridge to pinpoint a precise Last Known Position (LKP), which is the most critical data point in a maritime search.

Timeline of the Search

  • 11:55 p.m. (Saturday): The ship’s bridge initiates emergency protocols. Tracking data shows the vessel making a sharp 180-degree turn to return to the coordinates of the incident. “The ship tilted so hard when it made the U-turn that things slid off my nightstand,” one passenger recalled.
  • 1:15 a.m. (Sunday): An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod arrives on scene to begin an aerial search, supported by boat crews from Station Provincetown.
  • 4:00 a.m. (Sunday): After four hours of active searching alongside the Coast Guard, Norwegian Breakaway is released to continue on to Boston.
  • 11:30 a.m. (Sunday): The ship docks at the Port of Boston, about four hours behind its scheduled arrival time.
  • 12:05 p.m. (Sunday): The U.S. Coast Guard officially suspends the search pending the arrival of new information.

Search Suspended

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England announced the suspension of the search on Sunday afternoon. Despite an intensive overnight and morning operation involving multiple aircraft and surface vessels, no sign of the crew member was found.

Water temperatures off the Massachusetts coast at the time of the incident were between 45°F and 50°F. In these conditions, the window for survival without specialized immersion gear is extremely narrow, as cold-water exhaustion typically sets in within minutes.

On board, guests described a chilling scene as crew members sealed off decks 7 and 8 while massive searchlights scanned the black water.

“Watching the Coast Guard helicopter hover so low to the water with its own spotlight was the most sobering thing I’ve ever seen on a vacation,” said one passenger on the ship.

The ship’s captain provided frequent updates over the intercom, emphasizing the gravity of the situation for the ship’s 1,600+ crew members. One passenger noted, “The Captain’s voice sounded like it was cracking during the 2:00 a.m. update. You could tell he was devastated.”

Impact on Operations

The late arrival led to significant delays for the next voyage. Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) issued a text alert to embarking passengers informing them that check-in for the Sunday afternoon sailing would be pushed back.

  • Revised Check-in Window: 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Logistics: Luggage drop-off was available early, but guests were asked to leave the terminal area to avoid overcrowding while the ship was cleared.

This tragedy is the second overboard incident involving a Norwegian Cruise Line crew member in less than three weeks, following a similar event on the Norwegian Viva on April 9.

Norwegian Breakaway is currently homeported in Boston, offering a regular schedule of 7-day cruises to Bermuda.

French Waterways is pleased to announce an exclusive voyage along the historic Canal du Midi in 2026 that combines luxury barge cruising with excursions through and above the Mediterranean countryside by vintage Citroën 2CV and helicopter. Visit medieval villages and a 17th-century château, enjoy private wine tastings at Minervois vineyards, shop local markets, and, aboard the hotel barge Savannah, savor gourmet meals prepared by a private chef and time to relax in loungers or the spa pool on the sun deck. All-inclusive six-night charters are available from May through October, starting at $32,000 for four guests or $39,000 for six.

“A Canal du Midi voyage on the Savannah truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” said Rosie Mansfield, CEO of French Waterways. “From serene cruising amid stunning nature and engineering marvels to private wine tastings and thrilling excursions like a fun-filled drive in a vintage car and a breathtaking helicopter flight, it’s the ultimate immersive escape. And the itinerary can be tailored to suit your family or group of friends, making it one of the most flexible in France.”

After a welcoming champagne reception aboard the Savannah, guests will spend a week cruising the UNESCO-listed Canal du Midi’s distinctive oval-shaped locks, aqueducts and stone bridges from La Redorte to Bram, taking in the landscape of exquisite villages, vineyards, wheat fields and sunflowers.

Highlights of the itinerary are opportunities to see the countryside from an iconic French auto and the air.

Guests can take to the roads of the Languedoc-Roussillon region at the wheel of a vintage Citroën 2CV that’s kept in top condition and fly over the spectacular Château de Quéribus and Château de Peyrepertuse ruins, the Carcassonne citadel, the Canal du Midi, Étang de Leucate lagoon and Salses fortress by helicopter.

  • Narbonne, a Roman capital founded in 118 B.C. Explore the Via Domitia, Saint Just Cathedral and Episcopal Palace, and join the Savannah’s chef to select fresh ingredients from the town’s vibrant market for meals back on the barge.
  • Carcassonne, with its origins in the Neolithic era. Ascend ramparts dating to Gallo-Roman times to the UNESCO-listed medieval citadel, then roam the 19th century bastide.
  • The 17th century Château de Pennautier, set in formal gardens among vineyards where 10 generations of the Lorgeril family have lived. Discover the estate and enjoy a private wine tasting.
  • Mirepoix, a beautiful medieval town in the foothills of the Pyrenees known for its lively market, arcades and half-timbered houses; or the Canal du Midi’s origins at the Saint-Ferréol reservoir near Revel, viewing the Cathar castle at Saissac on the way.

Throughout the voyage, the Savannah provides elegant accommodations, with a brightly colored exterior suited to its Mediterranean setting, three double cabins and a single cabin with ensuite bathrooms and air conditioning, and a spacious sun deck with shaded dining area, loungers and a spa pool.

Departures are available from either La Redorte or Bram, with transfers from Narbonne or Carcassonne included.

First Cruise Ship out of the Persian Gulf Enters the Mediterranean Sea

Just over a week ago, cruise ships that were essentially stuck in the Persian Gulf due to the conflict began to make their move. The first ship to leave port, after being docked for 47 days, was Celestyal Discovery.

Today, that ship has successfully passed through the Suez Canal and has entered the Mediterranean Sea. Two more cruise ships are right behind her.

More than just a successful repositioning, this is a major victory for the cruise industry after a tense waiting game played out in the Middle East.

The 1,360-passenger Celestyal Discovery did not have any passengers as it headed for the exit through the Strait of Hormuz on April 17.

But the cruise line and handful of crew on the ship saw a window of opportunity and they took it.

Celestyal Journey, the other half of the Celestyal Cruises fleet, and four other cruise ships all made their exit and are now planning and restarting their cruise schedules.

With the safe transit through the Red Sea and Suez Canal, Discovery has proven that the path to the Mediterranean is open, effectively saving the 2026 summer season for thousands of travelers.

Leadership Under Pressure

In a letter Cruise Fever received from Celestyal, the cruise line praised the “outstanding leadership, expertise, and calm command” demonstrated by both captains and their onboard teams.

Navigating these complex and sensitive conditions required constant situational awareness.

The company highlighted just how important this operation was, stating:

“Celestyal has confirmed the successful and safe transit of both its vessels, Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey, through the Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant operational milestone and demonstrating leadership across the cruise industry during a period of heightened regional sensitivity.”

They added that the efforts of both Captain Vasileiou and Captain Vasilakos “were instrumental in ensuring the safety of all crew and the successful passage of both ships.”

Cruising is Back On

Most importantly for travelers, the cruise line confirms that the summer season is officially back on track. Celestyal sent a clear message about this:

“Following their successful transit, both Celestyal Discovery and Celestyal Journey are now repositioning to the Mediterranean, where they will commence the upcoming summer season as planned. Celestyal can confirm that all future sailings currently on sale will operate as scheduled, providing guests and travel partners with confidence and continuity as the company transitions into its Mediterranean deployment.”

Where the “Stranded Six” Stand Today

The arrival of Celestyal Discovery in the Mediterranean is the first domino to fall in what many feared would be a season-ending crisis.

Tracking data shows the other ships that also successfully made it through the Strait of Hormuz, moving in a coordinated effort to return to scheduled service.  Many of these ships had “gone dark” over the last few days, as AIS transponders were turned off for security reasons. MSC Euribia was one of the first we noticed had been “trackable” once again.

  • Celestyal Discovery: Now officially in the Mediterranean after its Suez transit; scheduled to begin its Greek Islands and Turkey sailings on May 1.
  • Celestyal Journey: Discovery’s sister ship is following close behind, having led the wider convoy out of its 49-day stay in Doha; set for a May 2 start in the Med as well.
  • MSC Euribia: Euribia has been tracked in the Red Sea and is about to enter the Suez Canal today as it repositions toward Northern Europe.
  • Mein Schiff 4 & 5: Both TUI vessels have navigated the Strait (departing from Abu Dhabi and Doha, respectively) and are headed to Cape Town, South Africa.
  • Aroya Manara: The last of the six to leave (departing Dammam), is currently sailing through the Red Sea, with Jeddah set as the destination.

With the first ship now that much closer to European waters, the “Hormuz Blockade” is officially a thing of the past for at least six cruise ships as they try to make up for lost time and restart their schedules.

Carnival-Tropicale-to-be-delivered-in-2028-scaled.jpg

Carnival Bets Big On Texas With New Excel-Class Ship Announcement

Carnival is choosin’ Texas – again – and going bigger than ever. Building on decades of leadership and a deep-rooted connection to the Lone Star State, Carnival Cruise Line today announced that its fifth Excel-class ship, Carnival Tropical, will homeport in Galveston when it’s delivered in 2028.

With more than 25 years of partnership with the Port of Galveston, Carnival has long led the cruise industry in Texas. Building on this commitment, Carnival Tropicale will join Carnival Jubilee – which was delivered to Galveston in 2024 – making Galveston home to two of the three newest ships in the Carnival fleet.

Carnival Tropicale will proudly boast the Star of Texas on her bow, just as Carnival Jubilee does. The two Excel-class, 6000-plus guest ships will be the cornerstone of a robust offering of ships and itineraries that will sail year-round from the Port of Galveston as Carnival solidifies its leadership in the Texas cruise market.

“Carnival Tropicale joining our Galveston lineup is a celebration of both our history and our future in Texas,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “For more than 25 years, Texas has been at the heart of Carnival’s growth, and this new Excel-class ship ensures we continue to deliver unforgettable experiences for our guests in and around the state.”

Carnival Tropicale is named after the original MS Tropicale, which was Carnival’s first originally designed cruise ship. That vessel helped shape the Fun Ship era, making entertainment and shared joy as central as the destinations themselves. It also introduced the iconic winged funnel to the fleet, which is now one of the most recognizable symbols in cruising.

In 2028, that legacy returns, reimagined for a new generation with innovative design and next-generation guest experiences.

“Carnival’s continued investment in the Port of Galveston is a big reason why we’re the cruise port of choice for a growing number of Americans and why we’re setting new growth records year over year,” said Rodger Rees, Galveston Wharves port director and CEO. “Carnival has been a valued partner for this port and this community for 26 years. We look forward to many more years of growth together.”

In 2024, Carnival became the first cruise line to welcome more than 10 million guests to Galveston, underscoring the strength of the Texas market. That same year, Carnival Jubilee was the first new ship to be inaugurated at the Port of Galveston. The Excel-class ship was the first North American ship to provide guests with 5G connectivity, and the first homeported in Galveston powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) – reflecting Carnival’s focus on innovation and sustainability.

Carnival Tropicale will also be powered by LNG and take some of her inspiration from her sister ship Carnival Festivale, which will be delivered in April 2027. There will be new dining and entertainment offerings, as well as a brand-new zone dubbed Sunsation Point, which will be anchored by Carnival WaterWorks Ultra – a multi-level waterpark – and many other family-friendly recreation and entertainment features.

Reservation and itinerary details for Carnival Tropicale will be released later this year. In the meantime, those who want to be the first to know can be notified by signing up here. San Diego and Disney Cruise Line to Ramp Up Sailings Over Next 5 Years

The Port of San Diego and Disney Cruise Line just signed a new deal that will ramp up cruises over the next 5 years. In fact, the new plan is to double the number of sailings out of the California cruise port.

According to a press release from the Port of San Diego, this agreement keeps the two partners together through at least 2031.

Instead of Disney just visiting for a few months out of the year, they are now moving toward a much bigger, long-term setup.

Disney now has priority at the B Street Cruise Terminal. This gives them the schedule they would need to eventually hit a target of about 100 departures every year.

A big part of this deal is a “minimum guarantee.” Disney expects to bring more than 1 million passengers through the port over the life of the contract.

This is the first time in over 20 years a cruise line has given San Diego a guaranteed passenger number like that.

The idea is to make it easy for families to do a “Land and Sea” trip. Since the port is so close to Disneyland (90 minutes, depending on traffic), you can spend a few days at the park and then hop right on a ship for a quick getaway to Catalina Island or Mexico.

Currently, there are 65 sailings on the books between now and May 2027.

Starting in late 2026, San Diego will actually have two Disney ships in port at the same time. Disney Wonder will stay on as the main ship, while Disney Magic joins in for several weeks of shorter trips.

Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners, Chair Ann Moore, said this about the new agreement:

“We are grateful to continue our long-standing relationship with Disney Cruise Line. This agreement not only enhances business operations between the Port, Disney and all our cruise line partners – it also supports a thriving cruise industry that injects millions into the region’s economy and welcomes thousands of visitors to our waterfront each year.”
