8 Most Impressive Bridges To Sail Under On A Cruise

Sailing under bridges on a cruise can be a really exciting part of the itinerary. Whether it’s one of the huge and famous bridges in the world like the Golden Gate Bridge or a low bridge that your ship only just fits under like the Ponte 25 de Abril Bridge in Lisbon, it’s a fun experience.

Iona from P&O passing under a bridge at Lisbon

Sometimes, your ship may sail under a bridge very early in the morning. In this case, it can be well worth setting your alarm so as not to miss it.

But which are the best bridges to look out for on your itinerary? Read on to find out…

1. Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, USA

The golden gate bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge is a marvel of modern architecture and one of the most famous suspension bridges in the world. Cruising under this orange-red structure as it emerges from the San Francisco Bay mist is a remarkable experience. The sight of its 746-foot high towers and 4,200-foot long suspension span is truly awe-inspiring.

Many cruises departing from San Francisco, including those from Princess and Norwegian Cruise Line, provide this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Not all ships can fit due to their height, but most medium and small-sized ships can comfortably sail under.

2. Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney, Australia

Carnival cruise after passing under the sydney harbour bridge

Known as “The Coathanger” because of its distinctive arch-based design, sailing under the Sydney Harbour Bridge is a highlight of any Australian cruise. It’s an experience that provides amazing views of the iconic Sydney Opera House and the bustling harbour.

The bridge’s steel arch spans approximately 503 metres and stands 134 metres above the harbour. Most major cruise lines, such as P&O Australia and Royal Caribbean, have itineraries that sail under this impressive structure.

While I haven’t cruised under this bridge on a ship, when I lived in Australia, my daily commute from Manly to the Central Business District involved sailing under the bridge on a ferry – it was the best way to start the day!

3. Tower Bridge, London, UK

Me on Star Legend with Tower Bridge

London’s iconic Tower Bridge is a drawbridge that has stood over the River Thames since 1894. Cruising under this Victorian Gothic-style structure, with its imposing towers and panoramic views of London, is a memorable experience.

Due to the low clearance, only smaller ships, like those from Ponant, Silversea and Windstar typically schedule cruises along the River Thames under Tower Bridge. I was lucky enough to cruise up the Thames on Windstar Cruises Star Legend, although the ship went under the bridge at 4 am, so I missed it!

4. The Rialto Bridge, Venice, Italy

The Rialto Bridge during a sunset

Venice’s oldest bridge across the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge, is a testament to Venetian architecture. As you sail under its stone arch, the nearby historical buildings and lively marketplaces make for a vibrant atmosphere.

Given Venice’s nature, all cruise lines used to sail under the Rialto Bridge, including Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line. However, recent regulations limit large cruise ships in the city centre, so it’s often smaller vessels and river cruises that offer this unique experience now.

5. Ponte 25 de Abril, Lisbon, Portugal

P&O cruise passing under the Ponte 25 de Abril

This suspension bridge bears a striking resemblance to the Golden Gate Bridge. Sailing under the Ponte 25 de Abril on the River Tagus, you’ll enjoy spectacular views of the beautiful city of Lisbon.

The bridge’s total length is 2,277 metres, with the main span measuring 1,013 metres, the longest in Europe.

Many cruise lines, including P&O Cruises, Viking, Silversea, and Oceania, include Lisbon in their itineraries, allowing passengers to sail under this impressive bridge.

View of the Ponte 25 de Abril bridge from Iona

I sailed under this bridge on P&O Cruises Iona when the ship made an unscheduled call into Lisbon to offload a sick passenger. Being a tall ship with 19 decks, the ship only just fit under the bridge! It was incredible to watch.

6. Bosphorus Bridge, Istanbul, Turkey

The Bosphorus Bridge

The Bosphorus Bridge is one of two suspension bridges spanning the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul, connecting Europe and Asia.

When sailing under this iconic bridge during a cruise, you’re literally moving from one continent to another, which is an extraordinary experience.

The bridge has a main span of 1,560 metres and a clearance of 64 metres, allowing most cruise ships to pass beneath.

7. Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, New York, USA

The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

The gateway for cruises leaving from New York to the Caribbean, Canada, or Europe, the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge was once the world’s longest suspension bridge.

Major cruise lines like Cunard, Princess, and Norwegian Cruise Line sail under this iconic bridge, providing a thrilling start or end to any voyage.

8. The Øresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden

The Øresund Bridge

The Øresund Bridge, connecting Denmark and Sweden, is one of the longest combined road and rail bridges in Europe. Its total length is approximately 16 kilometres (about 10 miles), and it provides a direct link between the two countries across the Øresund Strait.

The vertical clearance of the Øresund Bridge is approximately 57 metres during normal tide conditions. This is relatively high for a bridge, but it’s not high enough for some of the largest cruise ships in the world to pass under.

Most medium-sized and small cruise ships should be able to pass under the Øresund Bridge without any problems, but larger vessels may be too tall.

Norwegian Cancels Months Of Cruises AGAIN Due To Redeployments

Just a couple of weeks after confirming the cancellation of months of cruises across five ships in the fleet, Norwegian Cruise Line has announced another 35 cancellations for 2025/26.

NCL Cancelled Cruises

These cancellations are across four of the most popular ships in the fleet – Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Joy.

The affected cruises were set to depart between 29th November 2025 and 11th April 2026, and have been attributed to “fleet deployments”, although no further information has been released.

Norwegian Bliss has seen 9 cruises cancelled, including cruises from Los Angeles and a highly anticipated repositioning cruise from LA to Miami.

Norwegian Breakaway has seen 10 cruises cancelled in January and February 2026, all of which would’ve been short Bahamas cruises from Port Canaveral.

Norwegian Encore has lost 7 cruises, which was set to sail from Miami to LA and back. It’s suggested that Encore and Bliss may be swapping itineraries.

And finally (for now), Norwegian Joy has seen 9 cruises cancelled including a unique 23-night cruise from Port Canaveral to Seattle, although at the time of writing the ship is still set to offer Alaska cruises in May 2026, so another repositioning cruise will need to be announced.

For affected passengers, Norwegian Cruise Line is offering a full refund of their cruise fare, as well as taxes, fees, and pre-paid expenses.

Refunds will be processed back to the original form of payment, though processing times may vary depending on guests’ financial institutions.

In addition to a refund, NCL is offering impacted travelers a 10% Future Cruise Credit (FCC). These credits can be used toward the cost of a future cruise and will be sent to guests on Monday, December 9, 2024. The terms and conditions of the FCC may differ depending on the ship and voyage originally booked.

This compensation mirrors NCL’s offer following the cancellation of 38 cruises on Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Star, and Norwegian Dawn announced earlier this year.

Understandably, passengers are disappointed. Many cruisers plan their vacations months or even years in advance, securing airfare (where possible), accommodations, and other travel arrangements.

Having cruises cancelled at short notice can lead to significant inconvenience, especially if other travel arrangements are non-refundable.

Passengers who had been looking forward to unique repositioning cruises, such as the 23-night journey on Norwegian Joy, are particularly upset. These itineraries are often seen as “once-in-a-lifetime” experiences and can be difficult to replicate.

The 10% Future Cruise Credit is appreciated by some travellers, but others feel it is not sufficient compensation, particularly since NCL announced no clear reason for the cancellations.

Similar issues arose when Norwegian cancelled 38 sailings on Norwegian Jewel, Norwegian Star, and Norwegian Dawn just a few weeks ago, leading some travellers to question whether more cancellations are on the way.

The cruise line has a history of cancelling large numbers of cruises at once, having done so multiple times within the past 18 months.

How to feed your baby on a cruise (breastfeeding, formula & baby food)

Cruising with a baby is one of the best ways to travel, but it’s important to plan ahead and know exactly what and how you’re going to feed your baby during your cruise.

feeding baby on a cruise

Whether you’re breastfeeding, bottle feeding or have moved on to pureed or solid food, feeding your baby on a cruise is easy, as long as you plan ahead.

Breastfeeding on a cruise

Breastfeeding in public is welcomed on all cruise ships, and there’s no need to cover yourself unless you prefer to. Most cruise lines have breastfeeding policies that explicitly state that it’s acceptable to breastfeed without a cover anywhere on a cruise ship.

Depending on the countries that your cruise visits, you may need to check the attitudes toward breastfeeding in your cruise destinations.

If you plan to visit one of the few countries where public breastfeeding isn’t widely accepted, it might be a good idea to take something to cover yourself with (I like this cute nautical cover-up, which also doubles as a sun-shade!)

As well as being best for your baby’s health, breastfeeding is the most convenient way to feed your baby while you cruise. It does, however, mean that you might have to turn down the option of an alcoholic drinks package!

If you plan to enjoy a couple of drinks, leave your baby with on-board babysitters, or like your other half to do their share of the night feeds, then you might want to express some milk during your cruise. In this case, don’t forget to pack your breast pump, baby bottles, and anything you need to sanitise them.

You’ll also need to think about where you will store any breast milk. Some cruise ship cabins have a mini-fridge, but it isn’t always cold enough for milk.

If you don’t have a fridge, or it feels too warm, then just ask your stateroom attendant to store the milk for you. There’s a main fridge that they use to store people’s medication, so you can keep your milk in there.

Formula feeding on a cruise

Bottle feeding your baby on a cruise is pretty straightforward; you’ll just need to do some planning to make sure that you have all the equipment you need.

I’ve cruised with a six-month-old formula-fed baby and found that it was no different to staying in a hotel.

Here are my top tips for bottle-feeding your baby on a cruise:

1. Pack plenty of formula

Some cruise ships carry baby formula, and P&O Cruises actually offer it free of charge! However, it might not be the brand that your baby is used to, and it may be expensive to buy onboard.

I’d definitely recommend packing enough formula to last your whole cruise rather than relying on being able to get it on the ship or in ports.

2. Take powdered and ready-to-drink formula

Powdered formula is good because it’s relatively cheap and doesn’t take up a lot of space in your luggage. However, it’s also a good idea to pack some of the pre-mixed bottles for convenience.

I would generally make up powdered formula on the ship. But once you head ashore for your excursions, popping open a carton of the ready-made stuff is super fast and easy.

3. Cruise ship water is safe

Cruise ship water is safe to drink for children and adults, but you should boil it if giving it to babies or using it to make up formula milk.

Of course, using bottled water to make baby formula is an option too, but you’ll still need to boil it, so you might as well use the tap water.

Some bottled water contains too much salt or sodium for babies, so be careful if you choose this option.

Read more: Can You Bring Bottled Water On A Cruise?

4. Check what baby equipment is available on the ship

The following cruise lines allow you to hire bottle warmers and sterilisers free of charge:

  • Costa Cruises
  • Cunard
  • Disney Cruise Line
  • P&O Cruises

If you’d like to hire any baby equipment, be sure to let the cruise line know before you sail.

If you’re cruising with a different cruise line, you’ll need to bring your own bottle warmers and/or steriliser if you need these.

Don’t miss these hot cruise offers…

5. Check if your cabin has a kettle

The general rule is that if you’re cruising from the UK, you can expect to find a kettle in your room on most ships. Cruise lines know how much us Brits like a cup of tea first thing in the morning!

You won’t be allowed to bring a travel kettle on your cruise ship, so if you’ll need hot water to make baby milk, then it’s definitely worth asking your cruise line if they can provide you with one.

As a last resort, you can get boiling water from the buffet or from room service.

6. Don’t forget bottle cleaning equipment

As a minimum, you’ll need to pack a bottle brush (I like this travel bottle brush with a built-in drying rack) and some dishwashing liquid. If you usually sterilise bottles at home, then you’ll probably want to do so on your cruise.

I’ve always found that a cold water steriliser with tablets is the best for travel. But if you prefer to bring a travel steam steriliser then these are generally allowed, but you might want to confirm this with your particular cruise line first.

If your baby is a little older, you may opt to sterilise bottles using boiling water from the kettle.

Toddler milk on a cruise

Once your child is over 12 months old, you might want to give them whole cow’s milk instead of baby formula. If you do, then you’ll always be able to get this free of charge on your ship.

Whole cow’s milk is available in the buffet and any of the ship’s restaurants. You can also request it via room service and keep it in the fridge in your cabin if you have one.

When we cruised on P&O Britannia when Adam was a toddler, we asked for a jug of milk for our room. After the first couple of days, it appeared in our fridge each day without us having to ask, which was lovely.

If your toddler has an afternoon bottle of milk, I’d recommend filling the bottle at the breakfast buffet, then placing it in a cool bag so that it’s ready when they need it, even if you’re off on an excursion.

Can I bring milk on a cruise?

Cruise line policies normally only specifically mention water and soda for beverages that guests can bring onboard. But generally, if a cruise line allows you to bring water, they’ll let you bring milk as well – as long as you follow the same rules for water.

Some cruise lines don’t allow bottles, but will allow cartons and cans – so milk cartons should be OK. Always check with your cruise line on what drinks you can bring onboard, if you’re not sure.

Baby food on a cruise

If your baby eats pureed food, then you have three options on a cruise:

  1. Ask the restaurant staff to puree some food for you
  2. Bring your own pre-packaged baby food jars or pouches
  3. Use pre-packaged baby food provided on the ship

On almost any cruise ship, the restaurant staff will be happy to make up some mashed baby food for you using fresh fruits, vegetables and rice. MSC Cruises even has a special baby food menu for babies aged six to twelve months!

Although the freshly-prepared mashed food is great, you’ll probably want another option too, for when baby wants to at a different time of day to you, or for when you’re off the ship.

Suggested read: Can you take food off a cruise ship?

The following cruise lines provide baby food jars or pouches free of charge:

  • Cunard
  • P&O Cruises
  • Princess Cruises

On other cruises, baby food may be available to buy in the on-board shop. It’s probably best to bring your own, though.

Baby-led weaning on a cruise

If you’ve decided to skip the pureed food and go straight to solid food, then a cruise is food heaven for a baby!

We cruised when my son was six months old, and he absolutely loved trying all the different fruits, vegetable sticks, rice, and potatoes, and he even had his first slice of pizza!

First slide of pizza on MSC Cruises
Adam with a pizza slice on MSC Preziosa

Of course, baby-led weaning can be messy, but you really don’t need to worry as the cruise ship staff are incredibly friendly and do a great job of cleaning the floor! If you feel guilty about all the sweeping up, you could always slip them an extra tip at the end of your cruise.

Don’t forget to pack some food-catching bibs. The disposable bibs can be handy as an alternative to washing plastic bibs in your cabin sink.

Whilst cruise ships are kept scrupulously clean, if you’re concerned about your child eating food that’s touched the table, you might also want to take some disposable stick-on placemats.

For a full list of things to pack for a cruise with a baby, I recommend that you get my free baby packing list. You can save it on your phone or print it off and tick off items as you pack.

Cruises can be fantastic for babies!

However you choose to feed your baby, you’ll be able to do that on a cruise. What’s available on the ship and whether it’s free or you have to pay for it varies depending on the cruise line and also on the ship.

If you have any unanswered questions about what to expect on your particular cruise, then you should get in touch with your cruise line as they will be able to give you the best answer.

If you’d like to borrow any baby equipment, you should be sure to give your cruise line at least three weeks’ notice so that they can ensure that it’s ready for you when you board the ship.

Major Flood Onboard Allure Of The Seas Captured By Guest

Passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas witnessed an unexpected flood on Deck 10 of the ship during a 3-night Bahamas cruise that departed from PortMiami on December 6, 2024.

Allure of the Seas Flood Damage

The flooding, caused by a water leak from a burst pipe, quickly became a talking point among passengers.

While water gushed from ceiling panels and overhead lights, soaking the hallway outside passenger staterooms, Royal Caribbean’s crew responded quickly.

Passengers were relocated to other staterooms, and the leak was soon contained. No injuries or major impacts on the cruise itinerary were reported, and the ship continued its scheduled stops at Nassau and Royal Caribbean’s private destination, Perfect Day at Coco Cay.

A viral TikTok video shared by user joshuaofrichardson showed water pouring from the ceiling, flooding hallways on Forward Deck 10.

@joshuaofrichardson meanwhile on royal Carribean allure, who ordered the hallway sauna? #bustedpipes #royalcarribean #fyp #now #trending #cruise #cruising #vacations #waterfall #hottub #sauna ♬ original sound – Joshua Esquenazi

The video, which has garnered attention online, captured water pooling outside stateroom doors, creating a chaotic scene.

In a follow-up video, the TikTok user noted that the “pipe stopped, leak being fixed, and people moved right away to other rooms.” He praised Royal Caribbean for its quick action, saying, “Royal Caribbean does things right when nature rumbles.”

Another passenger onboard commented that they were unaware of the incident and were not affected, indicating the issue was isolated to a specific section of the ship.

It’s also clear that the ship was sailing under capacity, if the guests were able to be moved to alternative cabins so easily.

Despite the unexpected leak, the ship’s itinerary remained unaffected, and the vessel continued its 3-night Bahamas sailing without delay.

Passengers continued to enjoy planned stops at Nassau and Royal Caribbean’s private island, Perfect Day at Coco Cay, before returning to Miami on December 9, 2024.

While Royal Caribbean has not publicly commented on the incident, passenger feedback has been largely positive. Many guests were impressed by the speed and efficiency with which the crew resolved the issue and relocated affected guests. Several passengers also noted that issues like this can happen on any ship, especially as vessels age.

The water leak may be a signal that Allure of the Seas, which debuted in 2009 as the second ship in Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class, is due for some much-needed maintenance.

The ship is nearing its 15th year in service and is already scheduled for an extensive refurbishment in 2025.

The dry dock renovations, part of Royal Caribbean’s “Amplified” program, were initially scheduled for 2020 but were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now set to begin in mid-February 2025, the refurbishment will last nearly two months and introduce several key upgrades, including:

  • New dining options: Revamped and expanded food venues and specialty dining experiences.
  • Ultimate Panoramic Suites: Exclusive new suites located above the ship’s bridge, offering panoramic views.
  • Ultimate Abyss Dry Slide: The popular 10-story dry slide seen on other Oasis-class ships will be added to Allure of the Seas.
  • Resort-style pools: Enhanced pool spaces with updated lounge areas.
  • Adventure activities: Laser tag, escape rooms, and waterslides to bring new family-friendly entertainment options.
  • Adults-only spaces: More adults-only areas, offering relaxation away from the family-friendly attractions.

The 225,282-gross-ton ship will also have its pipes, plumbing, and other essential systems thoroughly inspected as part of the dry dock process. Considering the recent flood, it’s likely that maintenance teams will prioritize checks on water systems to prevent similar issues in the future.

Before heading to dry dock, Allure of the Seas will complete one last winter season in the Caribbean and Bahamas.

The ship will offer 3-, 4-, and 7-night voyages from Miami through February 10, 2025. Afterward, the ship will embark on a transatlantic repositioning voyage to Spain, arriving in Barcelona on February 22, 2025, where it will undergo the scheduled dry dock and refurbishment.

Once the dry dock is complete, Allure of the Seas will likely resume sailing itineraries in the Mediterranean or possibly offer new routes with enhanced onboard experiences.

Royal Caribbean often uses dry docks as an opportunity to refresh the ship’s branding and appeal to new markets.

While plumbing issues on cruise ships are rare, they do happen.

Pipe bursts and leaks have occurred on other ships, including Royal Caribbean’s Voyager of the Seas, which experienced leaks twice in 2024, once in February and again in August.

Even the highly anticipated Ultimate World Cruise aboard Serenade of the Seas had to deal with onboard flooding early in 2024.

Shipboard leaks often occur due to pressure issues, burst water lines, or minor structural issues caused by continuous wear and tear. Cruise lines typically address these issues quickly, especially since flooding can compromise passenger comfort and safety if not resolved swiftly.

Iona Sets Sail On Delayed Cruise Following Storm Darragh Disruption

Passengers aboard P&O Cruises’ Iona are experienced a delayed departure from Southampton as the ship stayed docked to avoid hazardous weather caused by Storm Darragh.

P&O Cruises Iona With A Mobility Scooter Header Image

Originally scheduled to set sail on Saturday, 7th December 2024, the ship was only able to begin its cruise in the early hours of Monday 9th December, once the weather had sufficiently calmed down.

The 184,089-gross-ton Iona, one of the largest cruise ships ever built for the UK market, was forced to take this precaution to ensure passenger and crew safety amid strong winds in the English Channel.

Wind speeds reached up to 35 knots (40 mph) along the ship’s planned route, making navigation unsafe.

The delay to the cruise did mean that the ship wasn’t able to make her scheduled visit to Hamburg on 9th December.

Other stops, including Rotterdam, Zeebrugge, and Le Havre (Paris), may also be affected, although it’s anticipated that those ports shouldn’t be impacted now that the ship has set sail.

Interestingly, when the ship did eventually depart she actually headed in the wrong direction, sailing west.

This was because she had two days to reach Rotterdam, and so avoided clogging the shipping lanes by sailing out of the way before turning around and continuing as planned.

Despite the delay, guests on board Iona are still enjoying their cruise experience. P&O has reassured passengers that onboard entertainment, activities, and dining are operating as planned, creating a festive atmosphere despite the ship’s extended stay in Southampton.

The ship’s facilities, including dining venues, theatres, pools, and lounges, remained open, giving guests the chance to enjoy the full cruise experience even while docked.

Safety remains the top priority for P&O Cruises and all cruise lines when navigating winter weather.

Cruise ships regularly adjust itineraries, cancel port calls, or delay departures to avoid dangerous conditions. While Iona is fully operational, weather conditions made the journey to the English Channel too risky to proceed for the first two days

With a capacity for 5,206 guests and around 1,700 crew members, Iona is well-equipped to ensure passenger comfort even during unexpected delays.

Iona is scheduled to return to Southampton on 14th December 2024, and P&O Cruises has stated that there are no expected changes to this return date. The next sailing, a 14-night Christmas cruise to the Canary Islands, is also expected to depart as planned.

Iona is not the only ship impacted by winter storms. Saga Cruises’ Spirit of Adventure also took shelter in Southampton on Friday, 6th December, after departing from Portsmouth earlier that day.

The ship was initially set to begin a 30-night Caribbean holiday cruise but had to adjust its plans to avoid dangerous weather.

Additionally, Ambassador Cruise Line’s Ambition was affected by foul weather from Storm Bert just days ago. The ship remained docked at the Port of Tilbury for the entirety of a planned 3-day cruise due to poor sea conditions.

Winter storms like Darragh are becoming more frequent as the Atlantic hurricane season wraps up. Experienced cruise travellers understand the importance of weather flexibility, knowing that cruise itineraries are subject to change when bad weather arises.

Last week, Mexico announced that port taxes and fees that cruise ship passengers have to pay for visiting ports in the country was going to triple from $20 to $62 per person.

This would make ports in Mexico 213% more expensive than the average port in the Caribbean. The overwhelming majority of cruises to the Western Caribbean visit at least one port in Mexico.

The Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) lead the fight against this huge tax increase with a meeting with Mexican government officials this past Friday.

Mexico has decided to delay their new Federal Law of Rights tax on cruise passengers from January 1 until July 1, 2025.

The Mexican Association of Cruises gave the following statement:

“The impact of this tax on Mexican tourist destinations will be disastrous. If implemented, we expect to see a progressive drop in arrivals, which will significantly affect employment for taxi drivers, tour guides, artisans, waiters, restaurateurs, craft store owners, pharmacies, and more.

“This also impacts artisanal suppliers from regions like Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Sinaloa and others who support the ports where cruise ships dock. Less income means fewer jobs and lower tax revenues for the government.

Mexico will lose its competitiveness, becoming one of the most expensive cruise destinations in the world.”

Michele Paige, CEO of FCCA, emphasized the importance of addressing long-term concerns despite the temporary delay. She said:

“We thank the Mexican government for listening to our concerns and proposing a delay in the implementation of the tax that will fall mainly on American citizens.

“However, the removal of the in-transit tax exemption – which was provided to our industry over a decade ago for valid reasons that still apply today – was done without our prior input and after the legislation was passed. It is ironic that until this law was abruptly announced the industry was looking to grow business in Mexico, and now the opposite will occur.”

The cruises will range from four- to 11-nights in length and visit Japan, Taiwan and Vietnam.

One of the most sought after voyages will be an Easter Monday sailing on Ovation of the Seas.

Hon Michael Wong, GBS, JP, Deputy Financial Secretary of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, gave the following statement:

“We welcome the return of Royal Caribbean International and will provide full support. Various government departments, coordinated by the Tourism Commission, have been working closely with the cruise terminal operator and Royal Caribbean International to put in place measures to help passengers onboard Spectrum of the Seas to quickly and conveniently travel into town.”

Mr. Benjamin Bouldin, President of Royal Caribbean International, China, expressed confidence in the strategic choice of Hong Kong as a pivotal homeport when he said:

“Hong Kong stands as a captivating destination in its own right, attracting global visitors with its unique East meets West culture. The city offers a myriad of experiences, from being a renowned shopping and culinary paradise, to being home to world-class cultural heritage conservations and international mega events throughout the year.

“Moreover, Hong Kong’s advantageous geographical location, coupled with its visa-free access to citizens of some 170 countries and regions, positions the city as the prospective Asian cruise hub. We are committed to Hong Kong, and we look forward to bringing in our newest and best ships to this market in the years to come.”

Royal Caribbean’s doubling of Hong Kong homeport sailings generates substantial direct and indirect economic benefits to the city.
